- Lucas: Hey there, welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and as always, Luna is here with me. Luna: Hey hey. So last time we went to the cinema and learned some super useful phrases for buying tickets. That was fun. Lucas: It really was. And you know, before we dive back in, I just want to say something quickly. If Fexingo has been helping you make progress with your Cantonese, and today's episode feels like it's worth a coffee to you, there's a little link — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It's a small way to keep this show ad-free and going. No pressure, just if it's been useful. Luna: Yeah, totally. Every little bit helps, and we appreciate you all just being here too. Lucas: Alright, so today we're going to revisit the cinema, but we're going to add a few more phrases that will make your movie night complete. Ready? Luna: Ready. I'm excited to learn how to talk about the movie itself. Lucas: Perfect. So first, let's say you want to watch a movie. In Cantonese, that's Let's break it down. 我想 means 'I want to', and 睇戲 means 'watch a movie' or 'watch a show'. I want to watch a movie. Lucas: Exactly. Now imagine you're at the ticket counter. You say to the cashier, 我想睇戲, and they ask you how many tickets. So you need to say 一張票 for one ticket. Luna: 一張票. One ticket. Lucas: And if you're with a friend, you'd say 兩張票 — two tickets. Luna: 兩張票. Two tickets. Got it. Lucas: Now, let's put that into a little scene. You walk up to the counter and say, That means 'Excuse me, I want to watch a movie, two tickets.' That sounds good. Lucas: You're getting the hang of it. Now, the cashier might ask you, 你要唔要爆谷? That's 'Do you want popcorn?' Do you want popcorn? Hmm, I always want popcorn at the movies. Lucas: Right? So if you want popcorn, you can say, Or if you don't, you can say, But let's keep it simple today and focus on the question itself. Luna: Okay, so 你要唔要爆谷 means 'Do you want popcorn?' Got it. Lucas: And then after the movie, you might ask your friend, That means 'Is it good?' or 'Was it good?' Is it good? That's a useful one for after any movie. Lucas: Exactly. So let's practice all five phrases together. Lucas: Awesome. Now let's do a quick role-play. I'll be the cashier, you be the customer. So you come up and say you want to watch a movie, and ask for two tickets. Lucas: Okay, and I ask, Lucas: Nice, you added That's 'I want popcorn'. Perfect. Then after the movie, you ask me, 好唔好睇? Lucas: And I say, 好好睇! That means 'It's really good!' Luna: 好好睇! Oh, I like that. So 好睇 means 'good to watch', and 好好睇 is 'really good'. Lucas: You've got it. So today we learned 我想睇戲, 一張票, 兩張票, 你要唔要爆谷, and 好唔好睇. Let's do one more quick review. I'll say the English, and you say the Cantonese. Luna: Okay, let's go. Lucas: I want to watch a movie. Lucas: One ticket. Luna: 一張票. Lucas: Two tickets. Luna: 兩張票. Lucas: Do you want popcorn? Lucas: Is it good? Lucas: Perfect. You're ready for a movie night in Cantonese. Remember to practice these a few times, and they'll stick. Luna: Yeah, practice makes perfect. And if you want to support us, you know where to find us. But either way, thanks for listening. Lucas: See you next time, and happy watching.
