January 14 - Rest for the Burdened Soul · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, January 14th.
• 0:11
Stay humble, stay wise. Have you ever felt the pressure
• 0:14
to prove yourself to be the smartest voice in the room, the
• 0:18
strongest 1 standing? The person who never backs down
• 0:21
or admits weakness. Whether it's in school, at work,
• 0:24
online, or even among friends, it can feel like humility equals
• 0:28
losing. Like if you don't promote
• 0:30
yourself, someone else will pass you by.
• 0:32
But God's wisdom tells a very different story.
• 0:35
Proverbs chapter 3, verse 35 says the wise will inherit
• 0:39
honor, but fools get disgrace. Notice what it doesn't say.
• 0:43
It doesn't say the loudest inherit honor.
• 0:46
It doesn't say the most aggressive, the most praised, or
• 0:48
  the most impressive inherit honor.
• 0:51
It says the wise do. And biblical wisdom is always
• 0:54
tied to humility, knowing who God is, knowing who you are, and
• 0:58
living from that place with trust instead of ego.
• 1:01
Psalm 7 pulls the curtain back even further.
• 1:04
In verse 9, David prays, oh, let the evil of the wicked come to
• 1:07
an end and may you establish the righteous you who test the minds
• 1:11
and hearts, Oh righteous God. God doesn't just see our
• 1:14
actions, He sees our motives. He knows why we say what we say,
• 1:18
post what we post, and do what we do.
• 1:21
We might fool people, but we never fool God.
• 1:23
And the good news is he isn't looking for perfection.
• 1:27
He's looking for honesty, humility, and hearts that are
• 1:30
open to being shaped. Then Jesus speaks directly to
• 1:33
the part of us that feels tired from trying to hold it all
• 1:36
together. In Matthew Chapter 11 verse 29,
• 1:39
he says, take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am
• 1:42
gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your
• 1:45
  souls. Think about that.
• 1:48
Jesus, the Son of God, describes himself as gentle and humble.
• 1:52
He doesn't lead with pressure or pride.
• 1:54
He leads with grace. And he invites you to learn his
• 1:57
way of living, a way that doesn't crush your soul but
• 2:00
actually gives it rest. Staying humble doesn't mean
• 2:03
thinking less of yourself, it means thinking of yourself less
• 2:06
and trusting God more. Staying wise means being
• 2:09
teachable, staying grounded, and letting God define success
• 2:13
instead of chasing applause. When you choose humility, you
• 2:16
createspace for God to lead. When you choose wisdom, you
• 2:19
position yourself for the kind of honor that lasts.
• 2:22
You don't have to prove yourself.
• 2:24
God already sees you. Walk humbly.
• 2:26
Learn from Jesus, let him carry what's heavy and guide you in
• 2:29
  what's ahead. Let's pray.
• 2:31
Heavenly Father, help me walk in true wisdom, not driven by pride
• 2:35
or the need to impress others. Teach me to stay humble and to
• 2:39
learn from Jesus who is gentle and lowly in heart.
• 2:42
Search my motives, shake my heart and lead me in Your truth.
• 2:46
I choose your wisdom over my own and Your peace over pressure.
• 2:49
In Jesus name, Amen. What if the ache you feel for
• 2:53
more is actually God calling you deeper?
• 2:56

• 4:13
Proverbs chapter 3 verse 35 World English Bible The wise
• 4:18
will inherit glory, but shame will be the promotion of fools.
• 4:21
Psalm Chapter 7 World English Bible a meditation by David
• 4:26
which he sang to Yahweh concerning the words of cush the
• 4:29
benjamite. Yahweh, my God, I take refuge in
• 4:32
you. Save me from all those who
• 4:34
pursue me and deliver me, lest they tear apart my soul like a
• 4:37
lion ripping it in pieces, while there is no one to deliver.
• 4:41
Yahweh, my God, if I have done this, if there is iniquity in my
• 4:44
hands, if I have rewarded evil to Him who was at peace with me,
• 4:48
yes, I have plundered Him who without cause was my adversary.
• 4:52
Let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it.
• 4:55
Yes, let Him tread my life down to the earth and lay my glory in
• 4:58
  the dust. Selah.
• 5:00
Arise, Yahweh, in Your anger, lift up yourself against the
• 5:03
rage of My adversaries. Awake for Me.
• 5:06
You have commanded judgment. Let the congregation of the
• 5:09
people surround you. Rule over them on high.
• 5:12
Yahweh administers judgment to the peoples.
• 5:15
Judge me, Yahweh, according to My righteousness and to My
• 5:18
integrity that is in Me. Oh, let the wickedness of the
• 5:21
wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous.
• 5:24
Their minds and hearts are searched by the righteous God.
• 5:27
My shield is with God who saves the upright in heart.
• 5:31
God is a righteous judge, yes, a God who has indignation every
• 5:35
day. If a man doesn't repent, he will
• 5:37
sharpen his sword. He has bent and strung his bow.
• 5:40
He has also prepared for himself the instruments of death.
• 5:43
He makes ready his flaming arrows.
• 5:46
  Behold, he travails with iniquity.
• 5:48
Yes, he has conceived mischief and brought out falsehood.
• 5:52
He has dug a hole and has fallen into the pit which he made.
• 5:55
The trouble he causes shall return to his own head.
• 5:58
His violence shall come down on the crown of his own head.
• 6:01
I will give thanks to Yahweh according to his righteousness,
• 6:04
and will sing praise to the name of Yahweh.
• 6:06
Most High Matthew Chapter 11 World English Bible When Jesus
• 6:11
had finished directing his 12 disciples, he departed from
• 6:15
there to teach and preach in their cities.
• 6:17
Now when John heard in the prison the works of Christ, he
• 6:20
sent two of his disciples and said to him, Are you he who
• 6:23
comes, or should we look for another?
• 6:25
Jesus answered them, Go and tell John the things which you hear
• 6:29
and see. The blind receive their sight,
• 6:31
the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the
• 6:34
dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.
• 6:38
Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me.
• 6:41
As these went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes
• 6:44
concerning John, What did you go out into the wilderness to see?
• 6:48
A Reed shaken by the wind. But what did you go out to see?
• 6:51
A man in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft
• 6:55
clothing are in King's houses. But why did you go out to see a
• 6:58
prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more
• 7:01
than a prophet, for this is he of whom it is written.
• 7:04
Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will
• 7:07
prepare your way before you. Most certainly, I tell you,
• 7:11
among those who are born of women, there has not arisen
• 7:14
anyone greater than John the Baptizer.
• 7:16
Yet he who is least in the Kingdom of heaven is greater
• 7:18
than he. From the days of John the
• 7:21
Baptizer until now, the Kingdom of heaven suffers violence and
• 7:25
the violent take it by force. For all the prophets in the law
• 7:28
prophesied until John, if you are willing to receive it.
• 7:31
This is Elijah who is to come. He who has ears to hear, let him
• 7:35
hear. But to what shall I compare this
• 7:37
generation? It is like children sitting in
• 7:40
the marketplaces who call to their companions and say, We
• 7:43
played the flute for you, and you didn't dance.
• 7:45
We mourned for you and you didn't lament.
• 7:47
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say he has a
• 7:51
demon. The Son of Man came eating and
• 7:53
drinking, and they say, Behold, A gluttonous man and a drunkard,
• 7:57
a friend of tax collectors and sinners.
• 7:59
But wisdom is justified by her children.
• 8:02
Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his
• 8:05
mighty works had been done, because they didn't repent.
• 8:08
Woe to you, Corazon, woe to you, Bethsaida.
• 8:10
For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and sight in which
• 8:13
were done in you, they would have repented long ago in
• 8:16
sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more
• 8:19
tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the Day of Judgement than for
• 8:23
you, You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, you will go
• 8:26
down to Hades. For if the mighty works had been
• 8:29
done in Sodom, which were done in you, it would have remained
• 8:32
until today. But I tell you that it will be
• 8:34
more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of Judgement
• 8:37
than for you at that time. Jesus answered.
• 8:41
I thank you, Father, Lord of Heaven and Earth, that You hid
• 8:44
these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them
• 8:47
to infants. Yes, Father, for so it was well
• 8:50
pleasing in your sight. All things have been delivered
• 8:53
to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the
• 8:56
Father. Neither does anyone know the
• 8:58
Father except the Son and he to whom the Son desires to reveal
• 9:01
him. Come to Me, all you who labor
• 9:04
and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
• 9:07
Take My yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and
• 9:10
humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
• 9:13
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
