- Sue: The new normal in my day to day existence is focused around water conservation. When you think about all the times during the course of your day to day that you and water interact, washing your hands, cooking with food, drinking it, etc. And now what was then normal won't continue in that way. You have to figure out how to create a new normal, right? I mean that goes without saying. I'm saying it for the point that It also means that in addition to that new set of modified routines, because after all, hopefully you can make an adjustment such that what you choose to do every day isn't affected. It just might mean that in the case of water you have to source it from a different place, like you have to pay for it instead of opening a tap. But it also that speaks to how it impacts other things in your life, which is to say, are you making enough income to be able to afford that lifestyle? And then before you head down that path of just buying water, I'm at the place where I'm thinking, okay, if I'm gonna throw that kind of money at it for so long, there needs to be a better permanent solution for sourcing water at the house. So I'm trying to make the best use of rainwater collection and not wanting to commit to spending several thousands of dollars on a house reverse osmosis system. So I'm going for a portable camping version. To process the rainwater I'm already collecting, but now need to set up a second collection so that it can feed in via a new inlet to the basement to a water storage tank, which then can be put through the reverse osmosis, then run through the house as a plumbed in source. And that means temporarily how I use water each and every way showering, laundry, cooking with food, washing my hands, washing dishes. Is all come under scrutiny for an adjustment and to sit comfortably with those temporary routines until a more permanent, livable solution brings everything balanced. We're at mercy of Mother Nature. The only way that my aquifer gets refreshed is if there's water that happens to find its way underground into the aquifer. Most of the rain that we're getting these days is absorbed at the surface. Lawn looks great, by the way. That's not what I care about. Bottom line to it all is that you want to create a solution that is best for the house. So when you are deciding to make changes, you want to be able to future proof it as best you can, 'cause you never want to be in a situation where you've been blogging about the well running dry and somebody be interested in buying your house and then backing away just because you've not shared that information explicitly. So here it is. It's 'cause I don't think it's a situation that is rare any part of the world. Where you are living in a community that originally wasn't set up to be occupied year round and now is seeing year round occupation. And so there has to be a change in the infrastructure to support that. But in the meantime, before everybody else is convinced that that has to happen, the powers that be, making the best of it is the way to go. I'm underemployed at the moment. So, you know, the idea of of having to outlay cash is a pain point for me. But that said, if it has to happen, it has to happen and I'll make certain that it's the best decision I'm able to make for the house and our quality of life. It does throw temporary reset, which is a good thing, into our existence daily because it raises awareness. And I have more awareness, for example, spiritually, because I'm paying attention more. Although I did absent mindedly Turned the coffee on and thought that I had done everything correctly and then went on to open up the basket. Halfway, getting better at not opening it up all the way. Still the same amount of mess 'cause you know, water being water. Something that I can't afford to waste at the moment. Making an extra pot of coffee to replace all of that which f is now on the floor and has to be mopped up is a waste. So all in all, it's good to shake things up a bit around this day to day. The other aspect about the remedy for the lack of water is also time sensitive because currently the rain barrels I have are only viable up until the first frost. Things start to freeze and I'm gonna have a hundred gallon ice cube if I'm not careful. Much more difficult to move around if need be to the inside. Rather have it go through a hose right now if I'm able. There is always the further upgrade to the house of adding a wastewater grey water body. recirculation system. Overall, I would love to have such a place that I'm living in that also is half a greenhouse enclosure, if not a hundred percent. Have it become totally sustainable with the weather that we're having. That's really not in the budget at the moment. There would be those that would say, You live at the edge of a forest, having a greenhouse might not make the most sense. Yeah, there's a lot of things to be thinking about. But as I'm recording this, I really don't want to think any more. I want a non do I thank you for sharing your energy with me today though. I appreciate you.
