- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:18Welcome to What's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:20The Podcaster. We talk about the good, the bad,
- 0:23the ugly and the absurd and all of our favorite.
- 0:26And the least favorite scary movie?
- 0:28Because we believe every horror movie rightfully has its fan
- 0:31base. We don't always get it.
- 0:33My name is Travis My. Name is Jessie and yay it's our
- 0:38Patreon voted episode. They had you all you all hedged
- 0:42into. I was going to do that shriek
- 0:43for this. Dude that like it rang we have
- 0:48the metal in here. Fucking looks like vibrating
- 0:51from that right there. We have sound dampening tiles
- 0:55and it goes. Like somebody like unsheathed
- 0:58their fucking sort of like shing.
- 1:02So today we're talking about Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
- 1:04Yes. 1st, I have one announcement and it's that we
- 1:08did our to be or not to be this past weekend, so make sure you
- 1:11check that out. Yes, we talked about Jacko.
- 1:15It is a movie about a killer pumpkin man.
- 1:19Indeed it is, and that one went off the rails hard.
- 1:22Yes, we did not stick to the script.
- 1:24No, but it was fun. It was.
- 1:26I had a fun time and with it. Check it out, I recommend.
- 1:30One more and it's we're gonna do our rapid fire reviews of the
- 1:35movies we've been watching this month.
- 1:36Yeah, we left off after the 4th. So on the 5th we watched Night
- 1:40of the Demons. That was your pick?
- 1:42It was a familiar movie. Yeah.
- 1:44Always a good time. I love that movie pro Quigley.
- 1:46Yeah, pro Quigley in this. House pro Quigley good Halloween
- 1:50movie how I gig. The 6th I chose unfriended.
- 1:54I love that movie. Yeah, cuz I just, I wanted, I
- 1:57wanted teens turning on each other, stuck in a single
- 1:59location. It's fun.
- 2:00It's just a Yeah, this is a fun time.
- 2:02It is. The seventh was your new pick,
- 2:05and it was VHS Halloween. Yeah, VHS Halloween.
- 2:10That was a good one. You know, it's been a while
- 2:12since we watched one of the newer ones.
- 2:14And, you know, I think it's funny.
- 2:16I feel like they've completely abandoned the VHS of the entire
- 2:19franchise. Like we're a guy like modern
- 2:21like cell phone stuff now and you.
- 2:23Know what, though, I like, I liked the wrap around story this
- 2:26time. You did.
- 2:26Yeah. That's one thing that I struggle
- 2:29with a lot of the VHS ones is the wrap around that they have
- 2:32for it. But this one I thought was just
- 2:34really fun. It had nothing to do with the
- 2:35tapes, but. No, it's.
- 2:37It was a good time. Diet Fantasmo.
- 2:39Yeah, I would. I honestly I might try the diet
- 2:42fantasmo you. Know I'm a Phantasmo 0 kind of
- 2:47guy. Same great flavor as Phantasmo.
- 2:52On the 8th I picked a new one for us and it was companion.
- 2:56That one, I like that one. Yes, that was pretty good that
- 2:59it went in a completely different direction than I
- 3:01expected. Yes, we knew what, like, I don't
- 3:04think it was even that much of A twist, but we knew that going
- 3:08into it and we're still caught off guard at certain points.
- 3:10And Sophie Thatcher is just amazing.
- 3:13Jack Quaid is always fun. I love seeing Harvey Gillian on
- 3:18the screen and oh God I forgot his fucking name.
- 3:23Whatever. It's entertaining, yeah.
- 3:25I definitely, if you're, if you're going in thinking it's
- 3:27gonna be like your standard, is that a spoiler?
- 3:33We didn't think it was a spoiler.
- 3:35Yeah, I don't know, but it's not whatever it.
- 3:37Does say that like the ninth was your familiar pick and it was
- 3:41funnel girls? Man, I love that movie.
- 3:43It's just, it's just a fun movie.
- 3:45Yeah. It's good at the horror.
- 3:47It's good at the comedy. I like it.
- 3:49On the 10th, I was feeling Halloweeny.
- 3:51I was feeling bloody. We watched Sheriff Art, too.
- 3:55Yeah. That's always a good time.
- 3:56You guys can listen to our full review on that.
- 4:00And on Final Girls and Unfriended and Night of the
- 4:02Demons. Actually, most of these, Yeah.
- 4:04You know, it's just, it's a good time.
- 4:06Yeah. And then last night, oops, I
- 4:10spelt it wrong. We watched a new movie that you
- 4:14picked out after looking around for some suggestions online.
- 4:17It was a French movie, Meandre. Meandre or Meandre?
- 4:24Go into that blind. Yeah, for sure.
- 4:27I I was just looking for a movie where you, it's somebody trapped
- 4:32in a single place and they have to like, play like a game or
- 4:34like fight for their survival type thing.
- 4:37And that's all you need to know about this.
- 4:39Yeah, I actually I liked it. I liked it, it was not at all
- 4:44what I expected. Yes same.
- 4:45Definitely go into it blind. Go blind makes a big difference,
- 4:48but yeah, it's if you like claustrophobic movies.
- 4:52Oh, God. So there were several times
- 4:54where I was just like, no, no. Like those scenes?
- 4:56In this scene, it's that times 11.
- 4:59Yeah, cranked to 11. Yeah.
- 5:02All righty. And that's it for that.
- 5:04Hey, you know what, everybody? We got a poll this week, yay.
- 5:07And it's because yesterday. It was such a busy day and we're
- 5:10like, fuck it, we'll record tomorrow.
- 5:11And I was like, hey, since we're pushing back our recording date,
- 5:15let's go ahead and do a. Poll Why the heck not?
- 5:17All right, so we did Silent Hill last week on the show.
- 5:21We wanted to ask which was scarier, Pyramid Head, the
- 5:24darkness or religious cults? So 29% say Pyramid Head was
- 5:31scariest, 29% say the darkness was scariest, and 43% say the
- 5:37religious cults. I would say probably because
- 5:39religious cults more realistic for people right now.
- 5:43Yeah, I was going to say I'm going personally with the
- 5:45religious cult because we've witnessed those in real life.
- 5:48Yeah, we're from the South, people.
- 5:51It's not strangers to this shit. And I actually learned when
- 5:54Meander finished last night that Season 2 of Shiny Happy People
- 5:57is now on Prime, so I'm gonna have to watch that.
- 5:59Shiny Happy. People, it's about the Duggars,
- 6:04but also like the religion that they're part of, which is a
- 6:07super, super fundamentalist sect of Christianity.
- 6:11That sounds terrible. Yeah, there's, there's a lot of
- 6:14stuff you I think another similar, well, no, keep sweet,
- 6:20Pray and Obey is about a even more fundamentalist cult of
- 6:24Mormonism. So there's just, there's a lot
- 6:27of documentaries out there on religious cults, and they're all
- 6:30frightening. OK, All right, enough of that.
- 6:33All right, we're ready to roll into Invasion of the Body
- 6:35Snatchers. So this was a movie that we put
- 6:38as an option for our patrons to vote on.
- 6:41So thank you all for that. If you would like to be a patron
- 6:44and have voting privileges, you can find the link to our Patreon
- 6:47at the very bottom of our show notes, $6 a month gets you
- 6:51budget tier and you get things like stickers, shout outs,
- 6:54voting privileges. Usually we'll tell you guys the
- 6:57schedule early depending on how we record and how we come up
- 7:00with schedules. And bonus episodes.
- 7:02And bonus episodes, which this month, we're really excited
- 7:05about it. We're gonna play a game.
- 7:06Yeah, I'm gonna say for now because it will be a couple of
- 7:10weeks still because we've got Scare Fest next weekend and
- 7:12that'll see. Us down, yeah, but I'm excited
- 7:14for it. I'm looking forward to it, yeah.
- 7:17So this was this was a new movie for both of us.
- 7:20We both knew what the movie is about and we know the iconic
- 7:23ending. Yeah, the the vote for this
- 7:25month was classics that neither of us had watched, so it's
- 7:28between this and The Omen and yeah, Invasion of the Body
- 7:30Snatchers 1. So Invasion of the Body
- 7:32Snatchers was released on December 22nd, 1978.
- 7:38We watch it on HBO Max. You can watch it on Prime or
- 7:42rent it from Google TV. It was written by WD Richter and
- 7:45Jack Finney and directed by Philip Kaufman, music by Danny
- 7:49Zetland and special effects makeup by Edward F Enriquez and
- 7:53Thomas R Berman. Starring Donald Sutherland as
- 7:56Matthew Bennell, Brooke Adams as Elizabeth Driscoll, Jeff
- 8:00Goldblum as Jack Belichick, Veronica Cartwright as Nancy
- 8:03Belichick, Leonard Nimoy is Doctor David Kibner and Misty as
- 8:08Harry's dog. Yeah.
- 8:12Pooch. Yeah, pooch.
- 8:14Funny enough, Harry doesn't have a credit on IMDb, or at least
- 8:18he's not credited as Harry, so I could not tell for sure who his
- 8:23actor was. So the dog was actually on there
- 8:25though. Yeah, I had an IMDb.
- 8:26Credit, yes. Yes, I love her on that.
- 8:28Misty, she's a boxer mix. Good.
- 8:31That was a good dog. It did a good job back.
- 8:32Yeah, and I've got, I've got a fun fact about her in a minute.
- 8:36I can't wait. Yeah, time for our favorite
- 8:38game. Budget or budget, I am going to
- 8:44say bug Ted. In fact, it was bug Ted.
- 8:47OK. And I'm going to look up the
- 8:49conversion. OK.
- 8:51What currency are we dealing with here?
- 8:54Are you doing like inflation? Inflation.
- 8:57Oh, OK. So it is.
- 9:00It was three and a half million in 1978, which is equivalent to
- 9:06over a billion dollars today. I don't believe that.
- 9:12Yeah. No way.
- 9:14No, no, I don't. No fucking way.
- 9:22There's no way. Are you kidding me?
- 9:25No way. No way.
- 9:26I mean, the Internet could be wrong.
- 9:27The internet's been wrong plenty.
- 9:28Of that inflation calculator. Hold on a second.
- 9:30What? What?
- 9:34Year was the 2nd, 1970. 8/19/78 Are you sure you did this right?
- 9:41How much? 3 million. 3,500,000. 350000 How
- 9:49many zeros is this? God damn. 500, yeah.
- 9:55That did it right. I think, wait, yeah, three comma
- 9:59500, comma 000. OK, Yeah, look.
- 10:05Hold on. Hold on one. 1-231-211-2123,
- 10:14Jesse. It's 17,000,000.
- 10:15Oh. Travis, I'm not an accountant.
- 10:19God, I'm also not wearing my glasses, which is probably not
- 10:24helping. $1 billion budget for this thing.
- 10:30Well, for $1 billion, this better be one hell of a fucking
- 10:33production. OK 17,000,000 my bad.
- 10:40Opening box office 1.2 million Worldwide Gross 24.9 million.
- 10:44I'm not doing any more. God damn.
- 10:47How many billions is that in in today?
- 10:50Money. The Force. 7.4 out of 10 on
- 10:55IMDb. Damn, that's a good score.
- 10:58I have 3 movies from 1978 and since this was a terror from
- 11:01outer space, I also found terrors from the land, from the
- 11:05scene, from the air. Hey, is 1 on Halloween?
- 11:08No, really. OK, that's a really good theme.
- 11:11Thank you, I was actually really proud of myself for it.
- 11:14The first one from the land, that's Dawn of the Dead.
- 11:17OK. It had its Italian release on
- 11:20September 1st, 1978. That was before it wasn't
- 11:24actually released in America until 1979.
- 11:27Interesting, but I had to make it the theme work.
- 11:28Why did they get it first over there?
- 11:30Is it because? Because they love zombie movies
- 11:32in Italy. That's true.
- 11:33Also Goblin did the soundtrack. A budget of 100 or 650,000.
- 11:41Worldwide Gross 159,000 IMDb 7.8 out of 10.
- 11:45Damn, another good one. I want to watch that one too.
- 11:48Yeah, it's completely different from the remake, from what I
- 11:50hear. It's got Ken Foray, love that
- 11:53one second by the sea piranha. Piranha.
- 11:57Piranha that released August 3rd, 1978.
- 12:01Budget of 600,000 worldwide gross.
- 12:05How many billions? I feel like I did not do any
- 12:09extra search. I went with what was written on
- 12:11IMDb because it made me laugh. Worldwide gross 321 dollars.
- 12:15Three. 121 dollars. I feel like this missing
- 12:21something but I like to imagine cuz it's around Roger Corman.
- 12:26I can imagine it only made $321. That's why there's so many
- 12:30remains, like I'm making money off this property somehow.
- 12:32Like I'm making another one throwing all kinds of boobs and
- 12:36nudity. Like we're we're making a
- 12:37profit, goddamn it. IMDb 5.9 out of 10.
- 12:41OK. And third movie by air, The
- 12:44Swarm, The Swarm. Do you know who stars in that?
- 12:47No, I don't. Michael Caine.
- 12:50Marco Kind. There you go.
- 12:54You know he would have fit in in this movie with this cast.
- 12:56Yeah, I could see it. Released July 14th, 1978.
- 13:02I could see him like in Leonard Nimoy's.
- 13:04Role. He's Leonard Nimoy's doctor,
- 13:07psychologist. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:09A budget of 21 million. I don't have a gross on it but
- 13:12it has an IMDb of 4.5 out of Denton.
- 13:15OK, this is one that had multiple tag lines and I just
- 13:19didn't feel like writing them down.
- 13:21OK. So let me pull up my handy dandy
- 13:24notes, the one on the poster. Watch out, they get you while
- 13:28you're sleeping. That is scary.
- 13:32Second, get some sleep up to sleep, Sleep, sleep and be born
- 13:42again into a world without fear and hate it.
- 13:45Sounds like something from Like a Vampire.
- 13:48Yeah, honestly, like I'm doing Dracula daily right now, and if
- 13:51I read a part with Dracula and he said that I would be like,
- 13:55yeah, then attracts. Yeah, that guy's pretty
- 13:57theatrical on December 20th. Try to stay awake.
- 14:02Why I can't believe all the tagline stuff's about sleeping I
- 14:05got. What about the aliens here?
- 14:08Here you go, pray for the human race.
- 14:11OK, OK. And you'll never close your eyes
- 14:15again. Yeah.
- 14:18OK, this one I feel like was taken from the advertisement
- 14:23script. OK.
- 14:25Cuz there's two of them and you'll see why.
- 14:27I mean from deep space dot dot dot advanced one sheet.
- 14:31Advanced one sheet. Advanced one sheet and then the
- 14:35next one sheet. The next one the seed is
- 14:37planted. Teru grows advanced one sheet.
- 14:42That's how it ends. Advance one sheet.
- 14:44Can I be retarded? Can I talk?
- 14:48Advance one sheet. Advance 2 sheets.
- 14:50Advance 2 sheets. That's for the sequel.
- 14:55OK, so that's a fun fact. Yeah.
- 14:58All right. So Kauffman loved the 1956 film.
- 15:01And he said it's basically it's akin to great radio.
- 15:05That's how he describes it. He had not read the novel, but
- 15:08when he agreed to direct this movie, he decided he was gonna
- 15:11go ahead and read the novel. And he didn't want to do an
- 15:15actual remake. He kind of wanted to envision a
- 15:20variation on the theme. And one of the big differences,
- 15:23obviously, is that they were using color, but they also moved
- 15:26the location to San Francisco because that's the city he
- 15:29loves. And he wanted to see it, you
- 15:31know, see what would happen. Terrorized.
- 15:35Yeah, I love it. So I want to see it go to hell.
- 15:37And the ending was also different.
- 15:39OK. They wanted to do a film noir
- 15:41feel but in color, so they cut. They borrowed some of the tips
- 15:44and tricks like especially like the shadow work, things like
- 15:47that. Interesting.
- 15:48And there were, like, color changes whenever characters
- 15:51turned into pod people. Really.
- 15:53Yeah. Which I didn't really notice.
- 15:55I didn't notice that. Either, but it makes me wanna
- 15:57like go back and kind of rewatch some things.
- 15:59What kind of changes? I just like tinges to the color,
- 16:03is what it said. Ben Burt, who did the sound
- 16:06design for Star Wars, did the sound design for this.
- 16:08Hey, cool. Yeah, He really focused on
- 16:11taking, like, those kind of ambient typical city sounds, you
- 16:14know, like garbage trucks, you know, and finding a way to make
- 16:17them feel terrifying when you realize that the garbage trucks
- 16:21are taking away the dead bodies of people who have been cloned.
- 16:25Yeah. And the other thing he designed
- 16:29was the shriek, which is actually a combination of
- 16:31sounds. It wasn't people doing what I
- 16:33did and breaking the microphones at the beginning of the episode.
- 16:36Yeah, it's a combination of different sounds, and one of the
- 16:38sounds included is a pig squealing.
- 16:40I can hear that. Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 16:42Yeah, they created the special effects.
- 16:45They were all practical and they were done live on camera for the
- 16:49movie. I was always wondering how they
- 16:51did the thing with like the the plant or whatever, the pod just
- 16:54like opening up like a flower. It was pretty impressive.
- 16:57Yeah, and do you want to know how they did the the hairy pooch
- 17:05Todd person? Because remember they got cloned
- 17:07together 'cause they were sleeping together.
- 17:09Yeah, and then we see the dog come out later with.
- 17:11Harry's head, yeah. That was a mask they made for
- 17:14the dog. And that was that.
- 17:16Yeah, and it had a hole in its mouth so it could like, lick.
- 17:21Good dog, man. Yeah, so I'm really impressed
- 17:24with that dog. Like she looks so happy running
- 17:26out with like her little human mask on.
- 17:27You know, in light of the movie Good Boy coming out, they're
- 17:31fighting right now to get dogs in there for winning awards.
- 17:36To the Academy. I'm all for it.
- 17:38And you know, I think they should because as part of the PR
- 17:43for this, they took Indy to the Walk of Fame and he saw Rin Tin
- 17:46Tin and Lassie's stars. If they could have stars on the
- 17:49Walk of Fame, they should be able to be nominated for awards.
- 17:52I. Mean like, yeah, I agree.
- 17:54So the ending was very, very much secret.
- 17:58No, like literally nobody besides the director knew what
- 18:02then that twist ending was going to be.
- 18:04He didn't tell Donald Sutherland until right before they shot it,
- 18:07he said. I don't even think that.
- 18:08Nancy Cartwright, Not Nancy Veronica Cartwright.
- 18:13Nancy Cartwright, the fucking voice actor from Simpsons.
- 18:15I I was thinking the same thing whenever I heard the name.
- 18:17My I knew I was going to fuck up at some point.
- 18:20I didn't expect it to be this early.
- 18:22Veron. He said that he didn't even
- 18:23think Veronica Cartwright. It doesn't help that her
- 18:25character's name is Nancy. Oh my God, you're right.
- 18:27Yeah. Veronica Cartwright didn't even
- 18:29know about the twist until it happened.
- 18:32And even crazier, the execs didn't know until they were
- 18:36doing the screening of the final product at George Lucas's house.
- 18:40Seriously. Yeah.
- 18:41Why were they screening at George Lucas's I?
- 18:43Don't know. I do think it's really funny how
- 18:45many Star Wars connections there are to this.
- 18:47When Leonard Nimoy from *. Trek.
- 18:50Yeah. Let's get the guy from Star
- 18:51Trek. I mean, like they got it
- 18:53confused. Like, yeah, so you're who are
- 18:56you on So? I like to imagine that he went
- 18:58into the sound designer all the time.
- 18:59So he said. How is it working with Leonard
- 19:02again? He's like what the fuck are you
- 19:03talking about? Yeah, it's like, tell me about
- 19:05that scene where Spock and Luke, they save the day.
- 19:13And Speaking of Leonard Nimoy, that this character was meant to
- 19:17kind of break him of his typecasting that he had, you
- 19:19know, after playing Spock for so long that I don't know, because
- 19:22there were several times in this movie that I was like, man, he's
- 19:24barely acting human. I was like, but you know, you
- 19:27know how Vulcans. Are isn't like his whole thing,
- 19:29like he's like a know it all. He's kind of a know it all in
- 19:31this movie too, isn't he? He's.
- 19:33Very logical and reasonable. He is half human, half Vulcan,
- 19:37yeah. Whatever, you know, I was
- 19:40realizing though, like we're, this is one of those movies that
- 19:44had some of these classic actors that I think we may be one of
- 19:49the last generations to really like.
- 19:52Know. Yeah.
- 19:53The cast. Yeah, 'cause like you show
- 19:55somebody today, later, Nimoy, they're not going to know who
- 19:57the fuck that is probably. Or I, you know, people.
- 20:01Gen. Z maybe same.
- 20:02Same with like a babyface Jeff Goldblum.
- 20:05Yeah, Jeff Goldblum. That was a shock to even see him
- 20:08in this movie. I feel like he must have a
- 20:10writer in his contract that he has to get gooey in all his
- 20:12movies. Yeah, just get gooey.
- 20:14Goldblum. That's that's his full name.
- 20:16Yeah. Donald Sutherland had to have
- 20:19his curls set every day. His curls set?
- 20:22Yeah. He had like little pink curlers
- 20:24in his hair to set the curls. He's not naturally curl.
- 20:27Or at least not naturally a pretty curl.
- 20:29I mean, think about how much work I have to do to get my
- 20:31waves to sit the right way. This is probably the youngest
- 20:33I've ever seen him. Yeah, he still kind of looks
- 20:35old. They did several cameos from the
- 20:38original, the 1956, which we haven't seen that either, but I
- 20:42just thought that these were kind of interesting to include.
- 20:45So Dan Siegel, who is the director, he played a cab driver
- 20:49at one point. And Kevin McCarthy, McCarthy,
- 20:53who played Doctor Miles Bannon Bennell in the 1956, he's the
- 20:58one at the end who's shouting they're coming.
- 21:01And he said the director, Kaufman, said that although this
- 21:06wasn't meant to be the same character from the 1956
- 21:09original, it was meant to kind of like, metaphorically be
- 21:13Doctor Miles Bunnell running through the country shouting,
- 21:15they're coming, trying to warn everybody.
- 21:18Interesting. Yep.
- 21:19So those are all of my fun facts.
- 21:21Cool. Which means we can go ahead and
- 21:24start a token. All right.
- 21:27Well, good, bad, ugly and absurd.
- 21:30Yep, as we do. So good.
- 21:34I, I thought this was like an interesting take on like the
- 21:37sci-fi thing 'cause like it's less the sci-fi in this of it
- 21:40and it's more of like the paranoia of it all.
- 21:43You know, you have like these people being duplicated and it
- 21:47really, there was like a point in the movie where I'm like
- 21:50guessing, is this person real? You know, and I feel like
- 21:53whenever that happens, you've kind of got, it's effective what
- 21:57you're trying to do. It's effective.
- 21:58That and plus we learn somewhere in the second act that if you
- 22:04act like you're one of them, you can kind of get by undetectable.
- 22:07So it adds to that feeling of paranoia and really helps that
- 22:10twist ending. Yeah, it does.
- 22:12That ending is awesome, too. It's iconic.
- 22:15We knew it going into it, but it definitely didn't hurt anything
- 22:18here. Yeah, like I was still the whole
- 22:20time in my heart or something. I was like, oh man, what's going
- 22:23to happen? The I like the chemistry between
- 22:27Donald Sutherland and Miss Cartwright here.
- 22:31Yeah, that's who played her, right?
- 22:34Nancy. No.
- 22:34Nancy's car, right? Fuck who?
- 22:37Brooke Adams. Played Elizabeth yeah, yeah,
- 22:40Elizabeth and him they. Felt like genuine friends.
- 22:43And you could also see that like, yeah, the affair was bound
- 22:46to happen, yeah, if it hadn't already started.
- 22:49But it seemed like they never fully crossed that line until
- 22:51the world was ending. Yeah, yeah, the the effects were
- 22:56amazing with this too. I was not expecting them to be
- 22:59as good as they were, especially for that time.
- 23:02I don't really, I mean, I you can definitely do some good
- 23:05effects in the 70s. I just I didn't expect to see
- 23:09the full pod like kind of give birth to one of the body double
- 23:14s and it was upsetting looking like it was just like goopy and
- 23:19covered in what looked like webbing some kind.
- 23:21We would never find out what the process of duplication looked
- 23:25like and I was like shit, we just actually are.
- 23:27And that also kind of got to me too, when we first saw the body
- 23:31double for Jeff Goldblum, because I didn't realize it was
- 23:34him at first because the the features weren't all there.
- 23:37Yeah. And I assumed like, oh, this is
- 23:39a client that got body. I assumed their bodies were
- 23:41actually being snatched. Like full on snatched, not
- 23:44duplicated as far as the. Original murdered.
- 23:46Yeah. Yeah, I thought it was the guy
- 23:48in the mud that like kind of was acting weird.
- 23:52Yeah, that was apparently a pain in the ass, customer.
- 23:55Was that part and also the part where Elizabeth her like my skin
- 24:01just like shrivels up? That was so fucking weird.
- 24:05Oh I I wanna see how they did that.
- 24:07This is one that I would love to get like a fancy blue rig of and
- 24:12white Sheldon behind the scenes details.
- 24:14Yeah, I also liked how, like, this is like around the time
- 24:18where cameras were getting crazy, people were like, all
- 24:20right, we can move around with cameras and let's go fucking
- 24:22wow, 1970. 8 Same year Halloween.
- 24:25Yeah, he was so excited to use that.
- 24:28The Pantaglas, yeah. Yeah, that's why that was in my
- 24:31mind when I was like, same year. They're probably also playing
- 24:35with this new technology. Yeah.
- 24:37But those scenes of Donald Sutherland kind of frantically
- 24:41going around the street and he's like trying to call people in
- 24:43the phone booth and stuff like that, and there's just like all
- 24:45these shots of the people around him, and then it's just like, it
- 24:48gets interesting. Oh, my God, yeah.
- 24:49That whole scene, like, you can hear that was such an
- 24:51interesting way to do a montage of, like, making all of these
- 24:54calls and getting more and more frantic.
- 24:55And you can you feel that same paranoia of more and more like,
- 24:59wow, how many of these are already POD?
- 25:00People. Yeah, exactly.
- 25:01I don't know this. This movie did a lot of things
- 25:03like that really well. I think all of those elements
- 25:05coming together really made it work.
- 25:08It all clicked Yeah alright, what about you?
- 25:11The whole cast just absolutely fantastic.
- 25:14Like, they are all super magnetic.
- 25:16And obviously I'm a fan of Jeff Goldblum and the Sutherlands,
- 25:21always have been. But it was just they were so
- 25:25fantastic to watch. It was really interesting having
- 25:28this framed from like a health department perspective.
- 25:30Yeah. And I feel like honestly, maybe
- 25:33seeing this post COVID gave me a new appreciation for how much
- 25:37the health department really does.
- 25:38They're not just looking for rat turds and soup, which that being
- 25:42one of his first lines. Yeah.
- 25:45It's it's kind of like what I was saying about Kurt Russell,
- 25:48actually. Like Donald Sutherland can make
- 25:49anything sound just super swabbing cool.
- 25:52You know, it was really funny you say that, though, because,
- 25:54like, I was thinking about this and he's like a Leonard Nimoy's
- 25:59character is talking about like, yeah, there's must be some kind
- 26:01of like, outbreak going on where everybody's having the same
- 26:04delusion. Kind of like a psychological
- 26:05flu. And Donald Sutherland's, like,
- 26:08you want the health department to get involved?
- 26:09Like what the, what's the food people going to do about this?
- 26:12I'm like, Oh yeah, they're not just food.
- 26:13Yeah. Like this is honestly a really
- 26:15good reminder. And having lived through COVID,
- 26:18yeah, we are very much more aware of it.
- 26:21So I thought that was kind of an interesting character choice to
- 26:23have. And apparently that was in the
- 26:25early version of the script. She was like and a vocational
- 26:28jazz musician is what they called him.
- 26:30Yeah, I don't know if that would have worked as well.
- 26:32Yeah, so I I really like that they did that with his
- 26:35character. And honestly, this is one of
- 26:37those movies that is almost two hours long, but it never feels
- 26:40like it's that long. Yeah, it it doesn't really
- 26:43meander too much. It's the opposite of our QB
- 26:46movie where like every time we pause, we're like, Jesus Christ,
- 26:48how much is left? And then like, by the time this
- 26:50was over, I was like, wow, two hours have already passed.
- 26:52Yeah, yeah, it goes by good pacing.
- 26:55Yeah, and it just, it really does.
- 26:56It keeps the tension there. You jump right into things too,
- 27:00which I always love. Oh yeah, I love that too.
- 27:02It just I had such a good time with this movie.
- 27:06All right, what's your back? I really don't have a lot of bad
- 27:11things to say about this movie. Well, you think you're about to
- 27:16say something. Well, I'll wait till my entry.
- 27:18No, go ahead. I might be able to jump in with
- 27:20you. OK.
- 27:21My bad thing mainly was because we do end up getting so many
- 27:24other things revealed. I wish we saw what happened with
- 27:27the bodies after they were doubled beyond the the
- 27:31traveling. Yeah, like, because they turned
- 27:33into like, black fungus looking things that are thrown into the
- 27:38garbage trucks, which we know because we've seen them over and
- 27:40over and over again. And like we see Elizabeth's body
- 27:44shrivela but it doesn't turn into like black fuzzy fungus
- 27:47mold spores. Yeah, it is a little bit weird.
- 27:51And I mean, maybe we just missed that part of it, but.
- 27:55I don't know. But that's really my And that's
- 27:58such a tiny nitpick because we do see like the fun part of her
- 28:01body disposal. Yeah.
- 28:04Gross to say it that way, but you know what I mean?
- 28:05Like from a horror movie perspective.
- 28:07Yeah, man, I don't know, I, I'd have to think on this a little
- 28:15bit harder. I just, I couldn't really think
- 28:17of anything in the moment while I was watching it because it's
- 28:19like a new movie. I was taking it in and it
- 28:27doesn't feel like a lot happens in the second-half of the movie.
- 28:30It's just a bunch of like him running around and like, oh,
- 28:33that's an alien, That's an alien, you know?
- 28:35And then like the ship comes in, it's like, oh, that's an alien.
- 28:37Like, I don't know. It could have been nice to see
- 28:40like everything escalate to a point, like, well, I'm
- 28:46completely out of options now. Which I guess he kind of did
- 28:49have that happen whenever the boat.
- 28:50It went from like, there's a few people here and there too.
- 28:53It's everybody. Yeah, it's a very quick
- 28:57escalation, which I guess like makes sense because they are
- 29:01exponentially reproducing people.
- 29:03I, I think it would have been even better though, to, to like,
- 29:07play a little bit more on to like the paranoia stuff because
- 29:09like it reveals that what's his name?
- 29:14Kibner. Kibner is an alien.
- 29:17Probably a little bit too soon for my liking.
- 29:20I think it would have been cool to have that reveal like way
- 29:22later into like. I do appreciate that instead of
- 29:26him just joining the long line of horror movie, terrible,
- 29:28terrible, terrible psychologist. Yeah.
- 29:31Because he, like, is like, it's all in your head.
- 29:36You're making this up. Just go home.
- 29:38Go home with this person who treats you badly.
- 29:39It's fine. You'll be fine.
- 29:41I I think it could have been cool to play a little bit more
- 29:44on like inner group paranoia, like maybe people.
- 29:47Like a thing moment. Yeah, we're like, how do I know
- 29:50you're you? You know what I mean?
- 29:53Because we do see that some of them can put that kind of an
- 29:56error on like obviously Doctor Kipner.
- 29:58Yeah, and Jeffrey, too, whenever the cops come by and like
- 30:01they're all kind of putting on that show and when they're all
- 30:03like checking out the room when Elizabeth got kidnapped in
- 30:07quotations. Yeah.
- 30:10But yeah, like they can, they're emotionless when they're around
- 30:13each other, but like when they're they can put it on that
- 30:15front. Yeah.
- 30:15It would have been kind of cool to see a little bit more of that
- 30:18done here. That's.
- 30:19Fair. Ugly.
- 30:21Rat turds and fucking soup. Yeah, pretty fucking disturbing,
- 30:26but also just like just the whole process of being turned
- 30:32into a double was really upsetting.
- 30:34I I just hate the idea of like falling asleep and then just
- 30:38because you fell asleep you are being like encrusted in this
- 30:41like goopy webby stuff and. And it's weird because they say
- 30:45that they have all of your human memories, but you're an advanced
- 30:49race. And that's confusing because
- 30:50then it turns into an existential thing, like what is
- 30:53the human? What is the soul?
- 30:54Like? What makes a person a person?
- 30:55Also what are they doing? Like what's a guy?
- 30:58They are traveling to other planets.
- 31:03Basically these monsters destroy every planet they go to and then
- 31:08they have to move on to the next one, much like the human race
- 31:10will do some ditchers. Yeah, we're getting there's a
- 31:13message in there somewhere. Yeah.
- 31:15But like at the same time, like we never really got an
- 31:18understand, like they're just kind of like moving pods around,
- 31:20but they like, are they like harvesting?
- 31:23They're trying to turn everybody into their.
- 31:26But what for what purpose? Because they move on to another
- 31:29planet and do the same shit, like and repeat.
- 31:33Like we never really saw like a goal and we just saw them
- 31:35carrying around pods. Yeah, like, like at least like
- 31:38have them like, you know, scavenge shit or something or
- 31:41like, feed off of the people. This kind of turned into more of
- 31:45like a bad thing, but like, yeah, I don't know.
- 31:48OK, whatever. What's your ugly?
- 31:50Well, POD person or no, the way that Doctor Kibner is like
- 31:55advising people coming to him for help.
- 31:59Yeah, but you got, you got to also understand like, how are
- 32:01you going to like realistically respond to something like that
- 32:05person's a double. That's not that's not that
- 32:08person. That's a that's a completely
- 32:09different person. You guys, you're just telling
- 32:12them like, it's OK, it's a delusion.
- 32:13Like I understand you feel that this is the case, but like let's
- 32:18actually look at this from a logical.
- 32:19Standpoint, no. He does it worse, though.
- 32:21Like he's very gaslighty about it.
- 32:23Like he's not. Yeah.
- 32:25I can't remember how I. I forgot exactly how it was
- 32:27worded, but it was bad. It was not.
- 32:29It was not in any way that was like supportive of the people
- 32:32that were coming to him with concerns.
- 32:33OK, well, I just like I always think about like in movies like
- 32:37this, you always have like you're with the protagonist.
- 32:40You're like, no, you fucking idiot, it's actually a fucking
- 32:42body double. But when you actually like look
- 32:45at it in universe like, well, how would you actually believe
- 32:49something like that if somebody came up and told you?
- 32:51That I feel like I would be more compassionate to a person going
- 32:53through that, which I feel like is something that a therapist
- 32:56should be doing. OK, even if it's a delusion, you
- 32:59can acknowledge that something's a delusion, but still, I
- 33:02understand that whether it's real or whether it's a delusion,
- 33:05this is a thought that is very obviously affecting this
- 33:07person's mental health, and telling them to just get over it
- 33:10is not helpful. OK.
- 33:15Absurd. The opening of the movie, for
- 33:20whatever reason, we just see this priest on the swing set
- 33:23with a bunch of children and I, we don't get any explanation.
- 33:28We don't ever see this guy again.
- 33:29And it just kind of like immediately threw me off, like
- 33:31what the fuck is happening? Here I feel like maybe that was
- 33:34another cameo, but I didn't write it down.
- 33:36That's a weird way to do a cameo.
- 33:40I also liked Elizabeth's eye thing.
- 33:45I thought that that was going to come up to do like is like the
- 33:47tests are like, all right, show me that it's actually you and
- 33:50like do the eye thing and she does the eye thing, you know?
- 33:52No, he really just included that to kind of show like normal
- 33:55human interactions to kind of contrast them later, OK.
- 34:00Yeah, that makes sense. That's what it.
- 34:02Was it was not. It was not a director's trick
- 34:05called foreshadowing. OK, Yeah, my absurd is that bath
- 34:14house, the mud bath that's they've got like, like the
- 34:20tablecloths from Dollar Tree, like that's what's separating
- 34:23everybody, to get naked into mud baths and then onto massage
- 34:28everybody. Everybody.
- 34:29'S just kind of halfway one around and muddy nudity.
- 34:32I don't want to live in that world.
- 34:34I don't either me up. And like, apparently Nancy
- 34:39always has to get this, this man into the shower.
- 34:42He's always like losing his footing in the mud tub.
- 34:46Please tell me you got like some plastic daisies on the bottom of
- 34:49those tubs or something for safety.
- 34:51Probably not. And then also, is that mud just
- 34:53being reused again and again because the tubs are still full
- 34:56of the mud at the end of the day?
- 34:57Yeah, it's kind of nasty. And how?
- 35:00How on earth are the Belichick's friends with Matthew Benall?
- 35:06Health department guy, super health guy, and he's not being
- 35:10like, hey, yeah, we got to discuss this.
- 35:13Maybe there's just like a they're friends who's like, I'm
- 35:16going to let this one slide. He knows that Jeff Goldblum,
- 35:20he's a little sensitive boy. He just on the street as poetry
- 35:23and he's. Very.
- 35:23Is that what there was? Was it poetry that he was
- 35:26writing? He.
- 35:26Writes poetry and he hates Kipner.
- 35:29Those are his main characteristics.
- 35:31Kipner, that's how I knew he was a pod person.
- 35:36Later he was like, you've never agreed with him in your life.
- 35:38Yeah, it really that was the tell right there.
- 35:40I like that. OK.
- 35:43You wanna rate it? Yeah, let's read.
- 35:44It all right, I like this movie a lot.
- 35:46I can see why it's a classic for a lot of people.
- 35:48I've given a nine. Yeah, I I'm gonna give it an
- 35:518.5. OK.
- 35:52I think it's, it's really good. I had a much better time with it
- 35:55than I knew it was like, it's been long standing as a classic,
- 35:59but it was nice to actually feel it's one of those.
- 36:02Feel it. One of those movies where you're
- 36:03like, yeah, sure. I know people like, I'm sure
- 36:05it's good, but you never, like, watch it and then you watch it.
- 36:08OK, now I get it. Yeah, I get why people really
- 36:10like this movie. So a starting average of 8.75.
- 36:13Cool. All right.
- 36:14Well then, let's talk about it. My first note is that we're on
- 36:18the opening credits and already wow this cast.
- 36:20Yeah, I know. Because the only person we knew
- 36:23that was in this movie was Donald Sutherland.
- 36:26Because we just like, we knew the ending of it, so we didn't
- 36:29realize that we had Leonard Nimoy.
- 36:31And Jeff Goldblum, like when I saw that, he was like what the
- 36:33fuck? Like I didn't even know he was
- 36:35acting back in the 70s. We see rain and we see some
- 36:39gooey flora. I listen.
- 36:42If you are a budget to your patron and you actually read our
- 36:46notes when we upload them, count how many times I write Gooey.
- 36:49I I did goop and also actually it starts with body snatchers
- 36:53gooping about in space and then they goop about on plants.
- 36:56OK, OK. Yeah.
- 36:57And then the kids are being told to pick the flowers.
- 37:01I wonder if the kids are like from a Catholic school or
- 37:03something or something like that and that's why they were being
- 37:06preached to on the. No, don't buy it.
- 37:11Elizabeth picks one of these flowers and she takes a home and
- 37:13she shows Jeffrey. She says it's a Grex.
- 37:15It's a hybrid type of plant. She can't find it in her book.
- 37:20Jeffrey doesn't care. He just wants to watch the
- 37:23Golden State Warriors. They've made it to the playoffs.
- 37:25Watching the big game. Yeah, watching the big game with
- 37:27his big old headphones on so that way she can read.
- 37:31We've got Matthew Banal. He is health inspector and he
- 37:34goes to a restaurant and he is arguing with the the chefs and
- 37:38the owner about if it's a caper or a rat turd.
- 37:43And he says if it's a caper, eat it.
- 37:45And that's a good way to get him right there.
- 37:47Although if that man cared about his restaurant he would have
- 37:50eaten shit right there. Yeah.
- 37:52He's like fuck it, give me the rat turd.
- 37:54It's a caper. When he goes back out to his
- 37:56car, he finds that some of the other chefs had thrown a bottle
- 37:59of wine. Busted his windshield.
- 38:01I like how his windshields just fucked up.
- 38:03Yeah, he just not address it. Yeah, they're out there just
- 38:06smoking and just watching them drive off.
- 38:08And he calls Elizabeth and he's like, they busted my wind
- 38:11shield. And she was like, oh, you?
- 38:13And he goes, hey, will you come in at 7:30?
- 38:15She goes, no, I'm not coming in at 8.
- 38:16I'm coming in at 8. He goes, please come in at 7:30.
- 38:19I'm going to nominate you for civil servant of the year.
- 38:21He's like, please just test for salmonella.
- 38:22I'm getting these guys. It sounds like he has had an
- 38:25ongoing beef with this restaurant.
- 38:26And I would absolutely watch the prequel.
- 38:28Yeah, I want to know what the fuck went down there.
- 38:31So she she agrees. She agrees that she'll come in.
- 38:35But that night, because she had taken the flower and she put in
- 38:38a glass of water, she's like, look at how it's already
- 38:40rooting. And she put it on Jeffrey's side
- 38:42of the bed. And we see like just a couple of
- 38:45random cuts of it just getting bigger and bigger.
- 38:47And it's one of those like unsettling.
- 38:48And it's not super highlighted, but you see it and you're like.
- 38:51Yeah, I wouldn't be comfortable with that.
- 38:54She wakes up in the morning and. Jeffrey is just at the side of
- 38:58the bed. He's dressed up in a suit and
- 38:59he's cleaning up glass from the floor.
- 39:01Yeah. And which this should be a sign
- 39:04because there's no water with a glass spill.
- 39:06Just rice. Maybe he I looked it up like the
- 39:10people like the beer kids and the Jack O movie and me Also I I
- 39:17just have a weird question. OK, He's a dentist.
- 39:21He is going into work in the fucking full suit and tie and
- 39:26everything. Dentists don't really get that
- 39:28dressed up for. Yeah, they usually wear scrubs.
- 39:31Yeah, I just thought it was very strange.
- 39:33That would be the first tale. Like somebody snatched his body.
- 39:37And so Elizabeth ends up running late because she's trying to
- 39:40talk to him and she's like, I don't know what's going on.
- 39:43And she ends up being late and she tells Matthew why.
- 39:47And he was like, listen, I've got rat turds to deal with.
- 39:51So we'll talk about this later, or I'll get you in touch with my
- 39:54friend, Doctor Kipner. That night, Jeffrey is still
- 39:59acting weird. And he says he has a meeting and
- 40:01he gave his Warriors playoff tickets to a patient.
- 40:03And she's like, I don't believe that for one second because it's
- 40:06the playoffs and it's your Warriors.
- 40:09And he goes outside and he just randomly meets people by a
- 40:14fence. And she goes to Matthew's house
- 40:18and she's like, hey, I don't know what's going on, but
- 40:21Jeffrey's not Jeffrey. And they eat some food together.
- 40:25Yeah, they have dinner. Makes her eyes do a thing.
- 40:28Does the eye thing, yeah. I like it when actors can do
- 40:30stuff like that because I know that was the thing with Bill
- 40:33Skarsgard. He can do that.
- 40:34With his eyes. And it also, I don't know if you
- 40:38noticed in companion, but Sophie Thatcher can cry from just one
- 40:41eye and so the director loved that to make her.
- 40:44How the fuck can you control which eye it's here comes out
- 40:47of? How can you control any of these
- 40:49things these people we've just named can do with their eyes?
- 40:52I can believe the other ones more than the tier thing.
- 40:54That's kind of weird. Well, again, he offers to let
- 40:58her speak with his psychiatrist friend just to, you know, like
- 41:01not calling you crazy, but you know, he might be able to help
- 41:04you process everything like. We'll, we'll see.
- 41:06We'll see him at the book party tomorrow, which is in fact a
- 41:08book party. I did not believe it.
- 41:10We. Were not prepared for how much
- 41:12of A book party that book party was.
- 41:13Yeah. So the next day, Matthew takes
- 41:18his clothes to a dry cleaner and the woman and you get the sense
- 41:22that he he's regular there and the woman isn't in the mood for
- 41:27his joking around. And the guy also working at the
- 41:31dry cleaner goes my wife. That's not her.
- 41:33Like, something's wrong. She's not acting like herself.
- 41:36And it's like. And as he's walking to work, he
- 41:38says hi to a street musician named Harry in his pooch.
- 41:42He says, hi, Harry. Hi, Pooch.
- 41:44Yeah, he's also, like, noticing a bunch of, like, random people
- 41:46kind of recognizing each other and they're passing things
- 41:48along. To each other.
- 41:50Things are seeming weird. Yeah.
- 41:52So he gets to work, and Elizabeth's upset.
- 41:54She said she tried to see Jeffrey in his office and he
- 41:56wasn't there, and he's always there.
- 41:58That nerdy little suit wearer is always in his office.
- 42:01So you know what she did? She followed him because that's
- 42:04what a woman does when she starts to get kind of paranoid
- 42:06that maybe her husband's cheating on her or maybe he's a
- 42:08pod person. So she follows him and just
- 42:11keeps seeing him meet up with people like he knows them.
- 42:14And she says, but they're all strangers to me.
- 42:16If they were people that he knew previously, I should at least
- 42:18know some of them, right? And they're just passing things
- 42:20off. And everybody just seems a
- 42:22little bit off. And by this point, they're in
- 42:24Matthew's car. And a man jumps on the car and
- 42:27yells they're cunning. And he is chased and killed.
- 42:29And this is the guy from the 1956 version.
- 42:33And as they're passing by the scene, they're, like, horrified.
- 42:38So they get to the book party, and Matthew books it to a phone
- 42:41because he wants to call in as a witness.
- 42:43He wants to report what happened.
- 42:45Like during this entire thing, Jeff Goldblum's characters just
- 42:48like complaining about Kibner the entire time.
- 42:51He is like all of the negative reviews on IMDb.
- 42:55Yeah, he is. Yeah.
- 42:56He's like the fucking director from Jack O.
- 42:58Yes, it's like I was under a fucking budget.
- 43:02So Elizabeth overhears a woman crying to Doctor Kibner about
- 43:06her husband, saying that he didn't seem like himself.
- 43:09And she was like, no, hey, wait. I get, I get what she's saying.
- 43:13I get what she's saying. But Kibner instead is making
- 43:15this woman hold hands with her husband and say we're OK, right?
- 43:18We're OK, It's all good. You're going to go home and just
- 43:20pretend everything's OK. Just get a good night's sleep.
- 43:23That's a staple of a good book party right there.
- 43:27Also, did you notice that that's the one of the guys that Jeffrey
- 43:30interacted with before? No, I didn't miss that.
- 43:34Elizabeth recognized him like that was one of the guys that
- 43:36was passing off things between him and other people.
- 43:41So she's upset. She tries to follow the woman.
- 43:44Her name's Catherine. He she follows her outside and
- 43:46she says, hey, I work at the health department.
- 43:48Call me. I know what you're going
- 43:50through. Matthew has taken Kibner outside
- 43:53to talk with Elizabeth, and he says couples these day just give
- 43:59up too easily. They don't want to work through
- 44:02their problems. And I hear that from people all
- 44:05the time today. There are very real reasons to.
- 44:09There's a reason why no fault divorce was put into law.
- 44:15Also, he's talking about like he's had several people come to
- 44:19him say that their spouses, not themselves.
- 44:23He thinks it's some kind of like contagious mental disorder or
- 44:27whatever that's going on throughout the town.
- 44:29He's like, it'll probably pass, but you know, it's still kind of
- 44:32strange that there's several people doing this.
- 44:35He's like everything will be OK in about 48 hours.
- 44:37Yeah, he's like, let me continue to see her though, if possible,
- 44:40because I want to be able to at least try and help her.
- 44:43So we cut to Belichick Baths. Jack is crying and Nancy tells
- 44:47Stan to calm the fuck down. He's upset about his bath.
- 44:51He's always, he's always slipping around and they're big
- 44:53guy muddy tub can't stand up. It's it's a lot going on for
- 44:56him. And she after he's showered off,
- 44:59she's massaging and he's like, please turn down the music.
- 45:01And she goes, no, they're good for plants.
- 45:03I love plants. And at first I'm like, oh shit,
- 45:06Nancy's a pod person. No, she just loves.
- 45:09Plants. Yeah.
- 45:09I thought she was more like the people from The Happening.
- 45:11Like, you know, like this is my plants.
- 45:13I feed them with hot dogs. Yeah.
- 45:14Because they're cool shapes. Yeah, and they're packed with
- 45:17protein. Yeah, Elizabeth has a big plant
- 45:22inside waiting for her, supposedly from Jeffrey.
- 45:25She thanks Matthew for helping her get home and helping her
- 45:29calm down. And he calls out to Jeffrey
- 45:31because he wants to see if, like Jeffrey's going to be dangerous
- 45:34or whatever to her. And Jeffrey doesn't come out.
- 45:37He's least chopping them. He's suspicious.
- 45:40These pot of people know that they're on to him.
- 45:42So Nancy, he's cleaning up the end of the day, finds a good
- 45:48man, and Jack calls Matthew because he's like Matthew.
- 45:53We'll know what to do. Yeah, also, one of her patrons
- 45:56there also gifted her a flower. It was one of the.
- 46:00Same flowers I think was his name.
- 46:02Yeah. So when Matthew's there, they
- 46:04check the the body there and they describe it as the body,
- 46:08like a fetus is how they describe.
- 46:10It yeah, like it looks adult sized, but it seems more like a
- 46:12newborn. So they call Elizabeth, but she,
- 46:15she's gooey. She she answers the phone, but
- 46:18she can't really talk. She's starting to get kind of
- 46:20gooey. So he goes to go check on her
- 46:22and tells the Belichicks to call Kipner for help.
- 46:27The thing on the table ends up opening its eyes, and Nancy
- 46:30freaks out and goes gets Jack, who comes over and looks at her
- 46:32and his nose bleeds, just like Jax was bleeding earlier.
- 46:36And then Kidner's there and he was again.
- 46:38Like you guys say it's an adult, then you say it's an infant.
- 46:42You say its eyes open and its nose bled.
- 46:44But it's not a lot Like you guys need to figure out what you're
- 46:47talking about. So Matthew sneaks into
- 46:49Elizabeth's house. He has to break a window like
- 46:53unboard. A door like this is a it's an
- 46:55actual BNE. Yeah, Jeffrey's actually seeming
- 46:57normal, too. He's in there watching TV with
- 46:59his headphones on. Yeah, so you know.
- 47:01Like, I wonder if the pod person was like, you know what?
- 47:03I really respect his memories for his appreciation of sports.
- 47:06Like damn, the Warriors. So like, for real, they're in
- 47:08the playoffs. Shit, it's a big deal.
- 47:11So he, Matthew. He gets inside and finds a gooey
- 47:16version of Elizabeth surrounded by plants.
- 47:19Big, huge plant room. It almost looks peaceful, except
- 47:23for the fact that you know that it's not.
- 47:25So he grabs Elizabeth and carries her out before Jeffrey
- 47:28can take her body, because he's getting ready to go, like
- 47:31dispose of the husk of her and take her out to the trash.
- 47:35When he sees that she's missing, he does the shriek.
- 47:37Yeah, back at Nancy's in Jack's, Kibner says that the body's
- 47:42gone. And they find a window open that
- 47:45hadn't been open before. Matthew comes back, and he calls
- 47:48the police. And he's like, listen, you gotta
- 47:50go. You gotta go to the Driscoll
- 47:52house. And he tells Nancy to take
- 47:55Elizabeth to Nancy to take Elizabeth to her to his house.
- 48:01Yeah. Yeah.
- 48:01OK. Sorry.
- 48:02I thought I messed up in my hands.
- 48:03Yeah. And Matthew's and Kibner and the
- 48:07is Jack there? I don't know if Jack goes with
- 48:09them, but they they go to to Elizabeth's house, yeah, to meet
- 48:12the cops and go over everything. And Jeffrey's like, yeah, he
- 48:17broke in and kidnapped my wife. And Kim Nur ends up talking over
- 48:20everyone. He's like listen, listen.
- 48:22Fail us. Fail.
- 48:23If they think that everybody, that people aren't human and are
- 48:27being duplicated, I will help. I will help my friend Matthew
- 48:33and Elizabeth calm down. I'll get them back to a good
- 48:36place. And Jeffrey goes, should I
- 48:37expect Elizabeth back? And Matthew goes, no, I'll
- 48:40actually be needing a change of clothes for her.
- 48:42All right, so the cops are OK with this resolution.
- 48:45And Matthew asked Doctor Kinner to please help him.
- 48:48He knows that the mayor is one of his patients.
- 48:50So he's like, please just let me get a meeting with the mayor.
- 48:52I'm going to see if we can get this thing contained.
- 48:54And he was like, sure, I'll help.
- 48:55And then he goes out to his car. And in his car is Jeffrey and
- 48:58Catherine's husband, one of the people that he'd been meeting
- 49:00earlier. Like you said.
- 49:02Elizabeth realizes that the flowers are new and that they
- 49:05are parasitic. And meanwhile, we've got this
- 49:07montage, like we talked about at the beginning of the episode of
- 49:10Matthew calling around, trying to get meetings, trying to get
- 49:14this thing under control, and just basically being told like,
- 49:17hey, keep this under control, keep this under wraps because we
- 49:21don't want people to find out and panic.
- 49:24Yeah, like he, he set up a meeting with the mayor, I think,
- 49:27and we don't see what happened, but yeah, apparently he met with
- 49:30him. He was supposed to meet with the
- 49:31assistant deputy mayor at Union Square.
- 49:34And then we see him go to the cleaner and he's there and the
- 49:38dude's OK with his wife now. He's like, yeah, she's fine, I'm
- 49:41fine, we're all good. Let's see, Catherine also seems
- 49:45off when she comes to talk to Elizabeth.
- 49:47She's like, hey, I just want to let you know everything's OK.
- 49:50And Elizabeth tries to talk to her boss about testing the
- 49:52flower. She's like, this is really
- 49:53important. He goes, you have been doing bad
- 49:56work lately. You've been consistently late or
- 49:58missing. I don't want you adding this to
- 49:59your workload. I will test it.
- 50:03Is he just an anal retentive boss or is he a pot person?
- 50:06Exactly. Yeah, makes you wonder.
- 50:08It makes you wonder, especially because we haven't seen much of
- 50:10this guy, so we're just kind of having to try and go off of,
- 50:12like, what's going on? Yeah.
- 50:14Jack can't get any stations on the radio that night.
- 50:17They're all holed up at Matthew's house, and Elizabeth
- 50:22is in the bed. She got some meds from Kidner to
- 50:25try and help her sleep. Everybody's just kind of like
- 50:28they're huddled up together. Matthew goes outside.
- 50:30He's sitting on his roof. It seems like it's probably
- 50:32normally a really peaceful place for him and he starts to fall
- 50:36asleep and he wakes up with a fuzzy hand and four goo babies
- 50:41around him. Yeah, Nancy saw all that out
- 50:44there, and so she woke him up and yeah, he's got a duplicate
- 50:49of himself. There's a duplicate of Elizabeth
- 50:51and one other person can't remember who it is.
- 50:54So they try and call the cops, but the cops are all part of it,
- 50:58which we realized because Matthew never says his name.
- 51:00And they said, calm down, Mr. Bunnell.
- 51:02Yeah, and they start barricading off the street, so.
- 51:06They realize that they need to run out.
- 51:08Yeah, they all. Everybody runs except for
- 51:11Matthew, who stays behind and crushes his duplicate's head.
- 51:15Oh, I, I think it's meant to indicate that like, all four of
- 51:18the duplicates get crushed, but he has a moment where he's just
- 51:22like, staring at himself and it's got to be weird to crush in
- 51:25your own head. Yeah, I don't know if I would
- 51:27like that. They hear shrieking from the
- 51:29crowd outside and they are running and they're trying to
- 51:33get somewhere safe but they end up cornered in an alley.
- 51:35So Jack is like Matthew take the lady somewhere safe and he goes
- 51:40running to try and distract the horde, but Nancy follows him.
- 51:43Matthew and Elizabeth try and walk and they are followed by a
- 51:47growing group and it's a really cool shot of like just their
- 51:49feet and. Then we see like this, I feel
- 51:52like I've seen this parodied on like The Simpsons or something
- 51:55before. Like they're just like trying to
- 51:57blend in and like there's pace slowly picks up.
- 51:59I think it's kind of one of those things too, that they were
- 52:02borrowing that kind of imagery from like, more films.
- 52:05Oh, probably, yeah. But yeah, that's really cool.
- 52:07Yeah. And you like, see more and more
- 52:08feet and like the pace just keeps picking up and then just
- 52:11like turns into them being chased through the streets.
- 52:13They end up climbing into a cap who calls in a type H.
- 52:17Yeah, I got the top page. Yeah, same page.
- 52:19So they get stopped at a roadblock and they run out
- 52:23before anybody can get to them. Who are they?
- 52:25They said that they were meeting somebody at the airport.
- 52:29I can't remember. Were they actually supposed to
- 52:31be meeting somebody there? I think they were just kind of
- 52:33trying to give false answers that way they aren't followed.
- 52:37OK. That that's my interpretation of
- 52:40it, unless I missed something. They find Harry and his poo just
- 52:43sleep on the sidewalk next to a pod so we know something bad is
- 52:47going to happen. They hide in their office from a
- 52:51pod cop and in this moment, they smooch.
- 52:57They do a little smoochy moochy. A little moment, yeah.
- 52:59They look outside and they see groups of people just carrying
- 53:02pods and they are like being directed different places, like
- 53:07those of you with family in San Antonio.
- 53:09Yeah, I, I, I just, I I don't understand what they're doing.
- 53:13They're just carrying pods around.
- 53:14Yeah, they're being given pods and they're taking buses to
- 53:17places where they've got like, family and friends, like
- 53:19plausible places for them to go and see people and some way they
- 53:22can give them the pods and the pods spread.
- 53:24OK. It's a pod deplatation system
- 53:27deployment system, not deployation.
- 53:29Jesus. Deployation.
- 53:30So the phone rings and Elizabeth is like, OK, they know that
- 53:33we're here. They find one of their coworkers
- 53:36bottles of pills and they're like, these will keep us awake.
- 53:39He's like, how much is a dose? And she says 1 pill.
- 53:41He goes take three, take 5, take 5.
- 53:44That's a lot. Unfortunately, this is when some
- 53:48cops come in led by Kibner and Jack and Jack is agreeing with
- 53:52Kibner and he was like, oh bullshit, you've never agreed
- 53:55with them in your in your life. And he's like, listen, right now
- 53:59we're free from troubles and you can be free from troubles too.
- 54:01And so they shoot them with sedatives and they explain,
- 54:06Doctor Kibner specifically explains that they go from
- 54:08planet to planet and they utilize the planet's resources,
- 54:13but eventually they have to move on, which to me sounds like they
- 54:16deplete all of the resources. They are in fact parasitic.
- 54:20I wish we would have seen some of it.
- 54:22Yeah. Yeah, so they fight their way
- 54:25out. They do.
- 54:26They shrug them off and they lock them in the freezer.
- 54:30As you do. Yep.
- 54:32And they try to sneak out, but as they're sneaking out, they
- 54:34run into Nancy, who says that she lost Jack.
- 54:37And they're just like, that's a shame.
- 54:41I don't think they think she can handle, in this moment, learning
- 54:44that he's been changed. Yeah, but she's like, you can
- 54:46blend in with them. You can still be out there.
- 54:48I've been out there about all you have to do is you have to
- 54:50hide your emotions when you're around them.
- 54:53So they're outside and they're blending in basically, until we
- 54:57see the dog with Harry's head and they lose their minds.
- 55:00Because of course she would. It's kind of funny that we get a
- 55:03moment like this with Jeff Goldblum in the movie because it
- 55:06reminded me of the Fly, you know?
- 55:08Like it's just like, Oh my God, it.
- 55:11It's a good moment. I love it.
- 55:13Yeah. They scream and then they get
- 55:14chased again, kind of. Makes me wish we had seen more.
- 55:17Of those I know, like, you know, like that kind of fuck up
- 55:20probably happened more than once.
- 55:21What what other cross pollination monsters have
- 55:24created, have been created? So they run away and they get
- 55:28they sneak away in the back of a truck and end up at kind of a
- 55:31greenhouse, which is where they are making all of the pods.
- 55:35They try and run to hide Outback.
- 55:37Elizabeth rolls her ankles and Matthew carries her and they
- 55:39both end up falling down a hill. And they're like, well, this is
- 55:42this is great. And they hear bagpipes, which
- 55:45apparently means that. Boats, ships, that's what
- 55:50happens. Like they hear bagpipes and then
- 55:51he's like ships, ships. He's just so excited about it.
- 55:54Did did that happen? Is that what boats do?
- 55:58I have never witnessed a boat bag piping.
- 56:00I am familiar with them Tooting. Yeah, they toot.
- 56:03Toot. Yeah.
- 56:04You got a toot. Got a toot.
- 56:06I have no clue. I don't know.
- 56:09But he's like, listen, stay right here.
- 56:11We could probably sneak away on these ships so you also get a
- 56:13closer look and realizes that it's a shipping ship.
- 56:18Yeah. Cargo ship and they're they're
- 56:19loading with all kinds of pods. And so he's like, well, shit,
- 56:22it's. Like a defeated like run back.
- 56:25Just like Elizabeth pack it up. We gotta get out of here.
- 56:28And then he sees that she has fallen asleep and these pods are
- 56:31working faster. I guess, like the stronger their
- 56:34community gets, the faster they work.
- 56:35Maybe that seems to be the case. Maybe because we've got, I
- 56:42called her Pod Beth in my notes and Eliza Pod was right there.
- 56:45And Eliza Pod, I missed that. Yeah.
- 56:49But she pops up and she was like, listen, it's painless.
- 56:52We're good. I'm Naked.
- 56:55Don't. Tell me you haven't thought
- 56:56about this. That's not in time.
- 56:59And Matthew runs into the greenhouse and he's like, you
- 57:01know what? We're just gonna do some shit.
- 57:03And there's lots of shrieking going on.
- 57:05And he grabs an axe and he's chased.
- 57:07And he starts like, cutting down lights, which apparently causes
- 57:09fires to happen. He's just destroying the thing.
- 57:12And like, you know what? He's been up a good fight.
- 57:14He's been up a good fight. The mob is chasing him.
- 57:18And I mean, we say the pod people aren't emotional, but
- 57:21they're pretty angry right now. They don't like you when you
- 57:24fuck. With your pods, it's just like
- 57:26toxic men nowadays, like women are too emotional.
- 57:28Men aren't emotional because anger's not an emotion.
- 57:32It's not. So he hides.
- 57:35Then we cut to the next morning, you know, we see him walking
- 57:38down the street. He watches kids being taken in
- 57:41to school for nap time. And they're like, we just got to
- 57:43school, Why do we have to nap? And the teacher's like, just
- 57:45shut up. I like these scenes of him, like
- 57:48he's almost kind of like retaining a little bit of
- 57:50himself because he's kind of like wandering around and
- 57:51observing everything. I wonder how much of this was
- 57:54taped before that very last shot.
- 57:57Oh yeah, probably. It seems like he's just like
- 57:59he's trying to. From our perspective, it seems
- 58:02like he's trying to do that blend in moment and he goes to
- 58:05work. And I like how these pod people
- 58:07still go to work. Are they actually?
- 58:10Yeah, they are. It is weird, yeah.
- 58:12Everybody's just kind of working.
- 58:13So yeah, You think that it's still him because he's in his
- 58:16office. He's cutting the newspaper
- 58:17articles like he did in the opening and.
- 58:21He ends up going outside. There's a big group that's
- 58:24moving and he joins the group and some of them got on
- 58:26elevator, so go outside. He goes outside and as he's
- 58:29walking on the sidewalk, Nancy sees him and she calls out.
- 58:32She's like, Oh my God, I was so worried about you guys.
- 58:34Where's Elizabeth? I still haven't found Jack.
- 58:36And then it cuts to Matthew's face, and then he lifts up his
- 58:41finger and does the shriek, and we just end on that cut to
- 58:44absolute silence on the credits. Yeah.
- 58:47And it's. Oh I get goosebumps with that
- 58:49ending. It's an effective.
- 58:51Ending it's so good. Well, man, we zipped right
- 58:54through that one, didn't we? It's that always happened.
- 58:57Took. Control of that one right there.
- 58:58You drove us through that entire story right there.
- 59:01If I don't drive myself through, I will get lost and I will
- 59:03meander. And that's not for a fun
- 59:05podcast, unless it's fun meandering.
- 59:08There's plenty of opportunity to fund meander always.
- 59:12Anyway, what's your rating? After I'm keeping it at 9.
- 59:15This is solid movie. I will agree, I will bump it.
- 59:18Up. Hey, bumping it.
- 59:19OK. What Tal you think of it?
- 59:23Sleepy the whole time. Talia's allergic to all plants.
- 59:27I do think she would love the concept of becoming a pop person
- 59:32hybrid of the three of us. You think she would actually
- 59:34like the idea of that? Only if her head was on one of
- 59:38our bodies. That way we could keep
- 59:39scratching her. She wants hands to be able to
- 59:41scratch. Yeah, OK.
- 59:43She's like, think about how much cuter you guys would be with her
- 59:45face. She's on her own.
- 59:48So I think Taya will get, she'll give this 10 out of 1010.
- 59:51I think she like she liked Misty's work.
- 59:53She also liked the scream. Yeah, I think, yeah.
- 59:56So she's done that many times herself, but she's displeased.
- 1:00:00I think this is a tricky one. Zoe's ultimate warrior.
- 1:00:03That is tough. I'd say Like the the people that
- 1:00:09were mad at him that smashed up the window because he was
- 1:00:14shutting down a restaurant because he's shutting down a
- 1:00:17source of food. I'm gonna say Nancy, Nancy,
- 1:00:21because think about whenever we take her to the vet and she just
- 1:00:25goes to a place deep within her. And just like, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:29That's just like. No emotion, just blending.
- 1:00:31Scout tried to murder us. Zoe went catatonic.
- 1:00:35Yeah, you're right. OK.
- 1:00:36Yeah, that, that's very fitting, Nancy.
- 1:00:40OK. Who did you relate to?
- 1:00:44I relate to any one of the random pod people because I
- 1:00:47can't keep myself awake for shit.
- 1:00:49If literally if my life depended on it, I couldn't keep awake.
- 1:00:52I would be heard so quickly. Yeah, you're, you're doomed in
- 1:00:55this. Yeah, there's, there's no
- 1:00:57helping me. I'll relate to to Jeffrey
- 1:01:00because like, even if I were a pod person, I would probably
- 1:01:03TuneIn for my team's playoff game, OK.
- 1:01:06Yeah, yeah, you actually probably would.
- 1:01:08Yeah. OK.
- 1:01:11Dream sequel. Dream sequel.
- 1:01:14Well, I well, one of the things I was curious about is like did
- 1:01:19this get exposed to other places?
- 1:01:21Did the ship that come in was are like were they already when
- 1:01:24or did they get infected when they arrived?
- 1:01:27I don't know if they really if that was answered or not and I
- 1:01:29missed it but like how is this affecting other areas?
- 1:01:33OK, I think would be interesting.
- 1:01:34Yeah. I can see that like watch them
- 1:01:36kind of move from place to place.
- 1:01:38Yeah. And like, I don't know, like
- 1:01:40see, like you have like I like to see a, a faction of like
- 1:01:45humans that are still there kind of like together and like, all
- 1:01:49right, well, this is like we know how they operate.
- 1:01:51We know what they're working towards.
- 1:01:54We're strategizing to try and thwart the the aliens.
- 1:01:59Sounds good. It's basically Independence Day.
- 1:02:01We got Jeff Goldblum again, this one with Will Smith though.
- 1:02:06OK. And we already agreed on a
- 1:02:07timeline, yes. What was it?
- 1:02:14Something about another page? Oh God.
- 1:02:16Advance. Advance 2 pages.
- 1:02:18Advance 2 pages yeah. OK, WWDD.
- 1:02:24What we don't do? There you go.
- 1:02:26Yeah, especially Vin Diesel right now.
- 1:02:28Got some shit going on. Bullshit, acknowledged Don
- 1:02:31Toretto. Yes.
- 1:02:33And I don't know the shit he was.
- 1:02:34Going to trial for assault. What?
- 1:02:38Yeah, oh fuck yeah. I just.
- 1:02:40Learned about that as part of the problems that's happening
- 1:02:42with Fast 11. That movie is fucking cursed at
- 1:02:45this point. OK.
- 1:02:47What would Don do? He he would get everybody like
- 1:02:53much like Matthew who get everybody together, like in a
- 1:02:56single place to look out for each other.
- 1:02:58But I think he would start getting really suspicious of
- 1:03:01probably like Statham and Duanye at first because they're like
- 1:03:07newer to the family anyway. Yeah, I think like and.
- 1:03:09Also the other bald guys. Yeah, like the tell for him
- 1:03:13would be like him getting along with one of them and be like
- 1:03:17you've 2 have never gotten along.
- 1:03:19Once, yeah, Statham and Dwayne actually getting along, not in
- 1:03:22like the way they did in Hobbs and Shobb, but like actually
- 1:03:26growing out. You're like.
- 1:03:28So what's wrong here? Yeah, also he is like stone
- 1:03:30faced all the time. So he would blend in.
- 1:03:32Just finds like, I don't see the problem.
- 1:03:34Yeah, everybody's actually like being really respectful now.
- 1:03:38Like maybe his first encounter is somebody like during a drag
- 1:03:42race. Like not emotional at.
- 1:03:44All I just imagine him also like he's driving down the road is.
- 1:03:47This his first ever race because the pod person is like so
- 1:03:50unemotional and calculating that they just like zip right to the
- 1:03:54finish line. Oh man, he's defeated.
- 1:03:56Yeah, yeah. And so at first he's trying to
- 1:03:58figure out what's going on, and then they figure out about the
- 1:04:00pod people and they all hide out at the house and they just click
- 1:04:03out. Also, like I went like a moment
- 1:04:06of him when he's driving down the street and you know that
- 1:04:08part where they're like find the friends and families, you know,
- 1:04:10go to them. He's like he like nods and
- 1:04:12respects. Like yes, finally the people are
- 1:04:15actually, they understand values, family values these
- 1:04:18days. OK, time for reviews, right?
- 1:04:23I Yeah. OK, I got two since this is new
- 1:04:26to both of us. Oh.
- 1:04:27Hold on, don't you want to do listener reviews first?
- 1:04:29No, we always do. Oh yeah, you're right.
- 1:04:32Internet reviews OK, this one's a 8 1/2 out of 10.
- 1:04:37I'll do the +1 first and the -1 next.
- 1:04:40Director Philip Kaufman employs gritty camera work that further
- 1:04:43manipulates viewers emotions. Low angle shots, trimulus zooms,
- 1:04:46lingering wide shots, these techniques all contribute to the
- 1:04:48unfolding chaos, the unbeatable alien menace, and ramping up the
- 1:04:52dread that becomes overwhelming halfway through when survival is
- 1:04:54paramount but improbable. It's not your typical, it's not
- 1:04:58your typical alien invasion, but the stealthy attack is all the
- 1:05:00creepier for it as these plant life forms take over family and
- 1:05:03friends with biological instinct.
- 1:05:06Seeing people as emotionless automatons is a fresh, crawling
- 1:05:09aspect prospect, and the screams they elicit when discovering and
- 1:05:13chasing a survivor owes a lot to the eerie sound design which
- 1:05:15consistently complements each chilling image.
- 1:05:18Overall, Invasion of the Body Snatchers succeeds on very
- 1:05:21simple ingredients. It digs under the skin, coils
- 1:05:23tighter and tighter as proceedings play out, and relies
- 1:05:26on paranoia to generate its terror without needing violence
- 1:05:29and gore. Combined with strong direction,
- 1:05:31impressive practical effects for the time, and nerve wracking
- 1:05:34sound design, this is true horror in its simplest form.
- 1:05:36A terrific blend of sci-fi and horror, planting its roots deep
- 1:05:40for an unsettling experience. Modern genre effort should try
- 1:05:43emulating. Yeah, I agree with a lot of
- 1:05:45that. They did like the core things.
- 1:05:48Well, like I mean the sound design really did add a lot to
- 1:05:51it. Like I said before, I was also a
- 1:05:53fan of the crazy camera work that they had going on here.
- 1:05:56They had some really slick shots and the sound design was very,
- 1:05:58very important in this, and I think overall it was just like a
- 1:06:04lot of little touches that seem simple but make such a big
- 1:06:07difference. Yeah, it's all the things that
- 1:06:08build up. OK, this is a decently new
- 1:06:13review. It was in 2023.
- 1:06:14OK, this is a one out of 10. Ugly to look at and difficult to
- 1:06:18follow. Choppy scenes, bad sound, cheap
- 1:06:21sets, confusing locations. Let's film at night with
- 1:06:23whatever St. lights happen to be working.
- 1:06:24Don't get me started on the dialogue, but above all the
- 1:06:27incoherent storyline. Something happens, then
- 1:06:30something else happens, then something else happens.
- 1:06:32Who are all these characters? Were these pod people showing up
- 1:06:35in the 1st 15 minutes of the film or just extra staring in
- 1:06:38the general direction of the camera?
- 1:06:40Why does working at public health McDonald Sutherland an
- 1:06:42expert in everything? Why is Jeff Goldblum so angry
- 1:06:45that people don't appreciate his poetry?
- 1:06:47Why does a random banjo player keep popping up on the street?
- 1:06:50Was that a thing back then? Why is Robert Duvall being a
- 1:06:53priest on a swing set? Shouldn't he be home celebrating
- 1:06:56mass? Not one pod person disrobes
- 1:06:59during the entire film. So why does Brooke Adams whip
- 1:07:01off her clothes when she finally becomes one?
- 1:07:04Very 70s? A couple things I don't know.
- 1:07:07Container ships. A couple of things I didn't
- 1:07:09know. Container ships blast bagpipe
- 1:07:11music when they're loading up at the docks.
- 1:07:13Warehouses can be set ablaze by taking a fire axe to party
- 1:07:16lights. Most of the actors look like
- 1:07:18they haven't figured out their motivations, which seems to
- 1:07:20change by the minute. Or how to interact with each
- 1:07:22other naturally. Was this everybody's first film?
- 1:07:24Seeing a very young Jeff Goldblum was a treat, though.
- 1:07:27And Leonard, I mean what? Leonard Nimoy seemed to be
- 1:07:29having fun as the Uber hip psychiatrist.
- 1:07:31I might have enjoyed this film where an actual pod person
- 1:07:34devoid of critical faculties and slogging through yet one more
- 1:07:37day on planet Earth. Well, you know, they brought up
- 1:07:40some good points, I'll give them that.
- 1:07:42Some things that we even said ourself.
- 1:07:44Yeah, yeah. There are a couple of like
- 1:07:46logical fallacies that happen in there.
- 1:07:51Yeah. And Donald Sutherland is kind of
- 1:07:52a new IT all, but he's so damn charming.
- 1:07:56Yeah, I don't know. I can understand why some of
- 1:07:58that stuff doesn't work. Like it doesn't really go into
- 1:08:02much detail about what's happening.
- 1:08:04It is a lot of like this and this and this and this type of
- 1:08:07thing. This and this.
- 1:08:08And this, yeah, which that can be bad.
- 1:08:10This but this. Yeah, it can be.
- 1:08:13Oh, there's a little bit of that in there, but like a little bit,
- 1:08:15Yeah. Just like the for the grand
- 1:08:17scheme of everything, it is kind of just whatever.
- 1:08:20Yeah, it all. It's kind of like what you said
- 1:08:22at the beginning. Everything just gets out of
- 1:08:24control. Why Badly.
- 1:08:25In the blink of an eye, yeah. We don't get to really
- 1:08:28appreciate what's happening on the outside because we are so
- 1:08:31micro focused on this group of characters.
- 1:08:33Yeah, yeah. OK.
- 1:08:36All right. We have listener reviews.
- 1:08:38We do we have one we have one on blue sky from the word zombie
- 1:08:43who says great movie, very creepy with a great twist
- 1:08:46ending. OK, yeah, yeah, the ending is
- 1:08:50amazing. I I didn't know that that was a
- 1:08:53change from the original. I didn't realize that there was
- 1:08:56like such a big twist back in the day.
- 1:09:00But yeah, you know, like it definitely made its mark on the
- 1:09:04genre cuz even to this day, like 50 years later, yeah, that's
- 1:09:09crazy. People go knows about it.
- 1:09:10Yeah, people talk about it. People are saying.
- 1:09:13People are saying, people are screeching, all right, that's it
- 1:09:18then. And I guess that's it for
- 1:09:19Invasion of the Body Snatcher. Yeah.
- 1:09:22Next week we are going back once more, The Texas Chainsaw
- 1:09:26Massacre one last time. One last time.
- 1:09:29We're doing the Netflix version, which obviously is on Netflix.
- 1:09:32There you go. That's.
- 1:09:33Where you watch it? And we will do our wrap up and
- 1:09:36shortly we will be announcing our next franchise.
- 1:09:38Yeah. OK.
- 1:09:42I think that's it. We want to go ahead and take the
- 1:09:45time to thank our patrons who voted for this movie.
- 1:09:47This week we have Joe. Freakatron.
- 1:09:49As is his name, Amber, Michael, Lord, Zombie, Tyler, Chad,
- 1:09:55Johnny and Jason. Yeah.
- 1:09:57Thank you guys. I'm glad that we have so many me
- 1:09:59that I have trouble remembering names.
- 1:10:01Yeah, it's all good. It's a good problem.
