- 0:27Well, welcome in to another exciting episode of the scene.
- 0:30I'm your host, Bubba Starts.
- 0:31And with me today is a fellow podcaster, Pete a Turner from the Break It Down Show.
- 0:36Welcome in, Pete.
- 0:38Hey, man.
- 0:39Thanks for hey.
- 0:40The thing I always say because because and and I'm really talking to you right now, Bubba.
- 0:43It's hard to do what we do.
- 0:44You do it way bigger than most people.
- 0:46So anybody who's watching this, pay attention because Bubba knows what he's doing.
- 0:50It's great to be on your show.
- 0:52I know what it means to take the time and the sacrifice to do all this stuff, how
- 0:56frustrating, how heartbreaking.
- 0:57I know.
- 0:58Because I've done all those things.
- 0:59And to be able to do what you do, if nobody else tells you today, brother, thank you for
- 1:04doing what you do.
- 1:05You are trying to make the world a better place, your community a better place.
- 1:08And fact that
- 1:09I get to be part
- 1:10of that, are you kidding me?
- 1:11Hell yeah.
- 1:12I'd love to do that.
- 1:13So anybody watching, also thank you for your time because it's we're all competing for time.
- 1:17And and the fact that you're taking any time with me is something that I appreciate.
- 1:21So all of you out there listening or watching, thank you.
- 1:24Thank you.
- 1:24Thank you for participating with us.
- 1:26I just you know, it's easy to forget all these things, man.
- 1:30I I learned a thing from my buddy Jay.
- 1:31He's a professional comedian, national nationwide act, And and he learned it from
- 1:35Buddy Hackett who kinda was his mentor.
- 1:37And he's like, well, Buddy would say, like, people come.
- 1:39Like, they might choose to come to your show.
- 1:41It might be the only thing they spend their money on that month.
- 1:43They're there with their girl, and they're trying to, like, have a great night.
- 1:47Look at them.
- 1:48Wave at them.
- 1:48Wave at the balcony even if there's not a balcony there because it means you're
- 1:53connecting with the people in a way it's too easy to forget all that stuff.
- 1:56Right?
- 1:56And so I take that attitude here with what we do on these crazy shows and just say to
- 2:01everybody, I hear you and I see you out there.
- 2:03I know I know what it means to take your time to take this time to listen to us.
- 2:07I'm not gonna waste it, and I'm I'm definitely gonna appreciate it.
- 2:10And that is exactly what people are craving in society these days is to just be heard, to be
- 2:16seen, to feel like somebody cares.
- 2:20And, that's a big reason why we started this show, Pete.
- 2:22So so thanks for all of those beautiful words off the top here.
- 2:26But we're not here to talk about me.
- 2:29We're here to talk about you and to get to know you and your show a little bit.
- 2:33So give us a little bit of your backstory.
- 2:35How'd you kind of fall into the podcasting world?
- 2:38And then we'll pick it up talking about your show, the break it down.
- 2:41I just I love it already.
- 2:42Yeah.
- 2:43The break it down show is awesome.
- 2:44I'm so fortunate that this thing even exists.
- 2:47We've gotten past all of the big hurdles.
- 2:50Now the hurdles are just stuff for me to clear out.
- 2:52Right?
- 2:53And and I've become pretty good at clearing hurdles.
- 2:55How did we get started?
- 2:56I don't know.
- 2:56I came back from war, and I was like, I I gotta stop going to war.
- 3:00I need to start telling stories because I got to do so many amazing things.
- 3:04And then I met other people who had done amazing things, and I'm just like, let's why
- 3:08would I ever stop talking to all these incredible people who are motivated, who are
- 3:12creating things, who wanna help the next person create something?
- 3:15And so we just I just keep going, man.
- 3:18I I posted an episode today.
- 3:19You'll appreciate this.
- 3:20It's a thing called Porchfest.
- 3:21I think it's like a nationwide, like, get people to first street kind of movement.
- 3:26And my hometown that I love is putting their second one on, and I'm like, hell yeah.
- 3:30I'll come down and support that.
- 3:32You know, is it free for me to do that?
- 3:34No.
- 3:34It takes time.
- 3:35It I was recovering all Sunday just from the travel because I I drove ten hours inside of
- 3:40'24.
- 3:41You know?
- 3:42And so I was like, man, to go do this.
- 3:44Right?
- 3:44I I got me about ten hours inside of, like, maybe, like, thirty hours.
- 3:48But I was up for twenty hours straight one of the days, and then I got up.
- 3:51And then and and I was exhausted, but I don't care because I want things like Porkfest to
- 3:56succeed.
- 3:56I want the local businesses to succeed.
- 3:58I want people to come out and see my hometown and how great it is and all these musicians
- 4:02that are gonna get time.
- 4:03Man, I love stuff like that.
- 4:04And so the break it down show isn't all that, but I am trying to and I saw your guys' model
- 4:10in your intro video.
- 4:10You know, I I'm just trying to enrich lives as much as I can, and I provide opportunities.
- 4:15I I can't force anybody to do anything.
- 4:17But what I try to do to break it down shows, find things that are interesting, fascinating,
- 4:21neat, build friends, and bring those friends back over and over and over again so that we we
- 4:27all can get to know that like, if you've read the most impactful book of your life and it
- 4:32was, you know, someone that was written last year, I can get that person on my show and talk
- 4:35to them about that book.
- 4:37And then I can bring my friend who's like, I read this most impactful book, and they're
- 4:40waving at my face.
- 4:41I'm like, well, let's get that person on my show.
- 4:44My my friends who know that I have a show have no idea that I can just simply reach out and
- 4:48and almost every single time, get that person on my show and now put them next to that person
- 4:54that they admire so much.
- 4:56I really like that.
- 4:57I really like that.
- 4:59And that's kind of what, we just launched a new show called Love Noise on our network.
- 5:04Mhmm.
- 5:04And that's kinda what it what it is there too.
- 5:06Right?
- 5:06A chance for us to go live on our YouTube and to really start to engage more with our fans.
- 5:13So many of these episodes, know, as you know, being part of the business, I batch episodes.
- 5:17I got 16 interviews this week.
- 5:19Some of this content won't get seen for months and months and months.
- 5:22Right?
- 5:22So by the time that it actually airs sometimes, I've kind of forgotten about doing the
- 5:26interview at all, and it it it creates a little bit of a lag.
- 5:30Right?
- 5:31But I really wanted to do was to start engaging with our fans.
- 5:34I've only been doing this for eighteen months, Pete.
- 5:37So, you know, my first goals, that first hurdle, right, was a 100 episodes.
- 5:41Can we shoot enough content to release a 100 episodes?
- 5:44We got there in, like, nine months, and then it was like, okay.
- 5:48We kinda know what we're doing.
- 5:50I think it's time to take this to video.
- 5:52So started researching YouTube.
- 5:54We really went on to YouTube right about the turn of the year, and now we have over 225,000
- 5:59views on our YouTube page.
- 6:01We have 350 almost subscribers, if not more than that by now.
- 6:05So we're growing this community.
- 6:07And what I need to kinda sit back and tell myself a lot of times is like, look.
- 6:11Some people take ten years even to get this far.
- 6:13Right?
- 6:14That don't know all of these things and have learned all of these, but I invested in it
- 6:18wholly right off the jump.
- 6:19I had already quit my job at the factory.
- 6:21I had, you know, I thought I was going to be a rock star, Pete, to be perfectly honest.
- 6:25Had put Yeah.
- 6:26Last summer.
- 6:28I was out there in the world and just, you know, playing a lot of shows and doing our
- 6:32thing.
- 6:33But as it wore on, it wore on me.
- 6:36Right?
- 6:36The the constantly performing for four hours a night, you know, five, six nights in a row,
- 6:42some of these places where I was like, man
- 6:44Yeah.
- 6:44I don't know that I have it in this music business like this anymore.
- 6:49And it kinda pushed me into doing the podcasting more and kinda putting the music
- 6:55career in the sidecar, if you will.
- 6:57It's still riding along.
- 6:58It still plays shows.
- 6:59I'm still able to share my art, but it's so much more important to share other people's
- 7:03stories and to share their art and to have that there because nobody else is doing this.
- 7:09Not in my community.
- 7:10There's not other people that are, you know, putting 300 other artists on their show in a
- 7:14year.
- 7:14We have over 250 episodes.
- 7:17Most of them are new faces every single time.
- 7:20So you talk about impacting lives and changing the world around you.
- 7:23Brother, we couldn't be more aligned in our mission, and I have to say, thank you for your
- 7:27service as well, not just to our country, but to your communities that you're serving.
- 7:33It's almost even more important, the work that you're doing now, than the service that you
- 7:38gave to our country in wartime.
- 7:41I think we do a lot more solving problems with love than with bullets and guns.
- 7:46Yeah.
- 7:47Yeah.
- 7:47You you're right.
- 7:48And and one of the responsibilities I have now is to put that effort here.
- 7:54Right?
- 7:55And and I've been tasked with this by a number of very notable people, but, like, yeah, help
- 7:59us.
- 8:00Help us here.
- 8:01Put that effort that you put into solving problems in Iraq and Afghanistan or whatever it
- 8:06is.
- 8:06Put that effort here, and and I do that.
- 8:08By the way, as you were talking, I was listening to you, and I just published a short
- 8:11because you got to exist.
- 8:13You gotta beat that heart on your show.
- 8:15And so I I'm not gonna do this throughout the show, but I'm like, oh, man.
- 8:18I didn't put this out.
- 8:19I can do this real quick while Bub was talking, and I published a short while we were talking.
- 8:23And that is that is what happens here.
- 8:25Right?
- 8:25Like, in our world, I have to produce.
- 8:27If I don't produce, I don't exist.
- 8:29If I don't exist, I can't help anybody.
- 8:30I can't I can't enrich anybody's life, including my own.
- 8:33And so wouldn't normally do this.
- 8:36I would just let it ride, but I knew you would get it, and it would be an important lesson.
- 8:40Like, I went in, and I listened to everything you said about all of the the work that you
- 8:45guys have put into it and and the batching of shows and all that.
- 8:48So I heard everything you said, but I also have the ability because look.
- 8:51We fly an airplane.
- 8:52We're so we're in one man bands.
- 8:54I'm rubbing my belly and patting my head right now.
- 8:56You know?
- 8:57And I got some Chewing bubble gum and chewing bubble gum and playing hopscotch too at
- 9:02the same time.
- 9:04You know what?
- 9:04In our world, we put our pants on two legs at a time.
- 9:07I jump right in.
- 9:08One leg in it.
- 9:09Yeah.
- 9:10Nobody's got time for one leg in it.
- 9:11So that and that's why I I didn't I I bring that up is we know where the work is.
- 9:17Right?
- 9:17And this is one of the big lessons for anybody in the podcast world or or or creative world.
- 9:20Like, you're gonna start a band.
- 9:21Right?
- 9:22You're gonna start a record company.
- 9:23You have to figure out where the work needs to be today, tomorrow.
- 9:27What are the things like, it's it's fun to get a front man, and then we'll be at the Oscars,
- 9:31and I'm gonna wear that shiny jacket.
- 9:34You're too far ahead.
- 9:35What's right now?
- 9:36What do we need to be doing?
- 9:37And right then, I needed a publisher short because I didn't do it at 09:00.
- 9:40Right?
- 9:40And I'm in the West Coast.
- 9:42So that is a big thing.
- 9:44And when you're looking at batching, and this is just me just talking to you podcaster to
- 9:48podcaster, you need to push more shows out per week.
- 9:51You know?
- 9:51You just you need
- 9:52to get
- 9:52that hard
- 9:53trying to build the back catalog, Pete.
- 9:55We were at one point because I had a 100 episodes behind me when I jumped onto YouTube.
- 10:00We were releasing content every single day.
- 10:02I was putting out an episode every day just to try and get that stuff out there.
- 10:05Summers get busy for me.
- 10:07I do a lot of traveling.
- 10:08I was kinda out and about, so I kinda pull back and make sure that we have enough content to
- 10:13get through, but we're gonna blow it out of the water this year.
- 10:15And I have four networks.
- 10:16Right?
- 10:17I have I have different networks.
- 10:18So when I'm batching episodes, it's not all specifically for the scene projects.
- 10:22Sure.
- 10:22Some may be for the Patriot broadcasting project, which is kind of our news and
- 10:26politics.
- 10:26We're dipping into the local and state level scene.
- 10:29I've had state representatives on.
- 10:31We've had hopefuls come on our show.
- 10:33I have one actually later today with another city council hopeful or a Great.
- 10:37Congressional hopeful.
- 10:37Right?
- 10:38Well and then we have the get better together project, which is more a platform to have long
- 10:43form conversations and, shedding our shit, if you will.
- 10:47A shout out to my friend Fire White for, saying that on my, on my friend, Willie
- 10:52Fox.
- 10:52Jump Let in here because do very similar things here.
- 10:56Maybe not as concentrated as you, but I think it's valuable.
- 10:59We always talk about the they.
- 11:01They ought to do this or they should do that.
- 11:03And so when you go and you meet the they, you realize, hey.
- 11:07These are real people, and they're really trying to resolve real problems.
- 11:10And and maybe if you all, instead of wanting somebody to do something, if you got off a
- 11:15couch and you went down and you had lunch with that person, I love to talk to city managers.
- 11:19These are highly credentialed people.
- 11:21They're often lawyers.
- 11:22You know, this is a big deal, at least you're in California, to have a city manager because
- 11:26they're trying to run this organization.
- 11:28And there's there's never enough money.
- 11:29There's never enough people.
- 11:30There's always personality.
- 11:32You know?
- 11:32And these these folks, god bless them, man.
- 11:34They that's not an easy job.
- 11:35And so when you talk to them and you understand the reality that they work within, the stuff
- 11:41that you're thinking that that they ought to do, it is almost insignificant.
- 11:45You know?
- 11:45And if you're not willing to go out and help and contribute and speak up about it, then it
- 11:51it isn't gonna exist.
- 11:52And and maybe it doesn't need to.
- 11:54Maybe they need to fix sidewalks downtown before the they go out and paint this crosswalk
- 11:58or whatever it is.
- 12:00And and so by creating a show like you have and and and like I do and you bring on not just the
- 12:05president of The United States, but also, like, hey.
- 12:07This is the mayor.
- 12:08Hey.
- 12:08This is the city manager.
- 12:09Hey.
- 12:10This is the the emergency manager from your county.
- 12:12Do you know how hard that job is and how much responsibility?
- 12:17And quite often in in a lot of the nation, that's a second job within the government job
- 12:22that they already have.
- 12:23It's like, oh, Andrew, the emergency manager.
- 12:25And so to understand what these guys have on the line and then when an emergency shows up,
- 12:30you know, and and they're like, but I'm also the dog catcher.
- 12:34Well, and I live I live in rural South Dakota, Pete, so everyone wears multiple hats around
- 12:41here.
- 12:41Yeah.
- 12:41And we know intimately, right, our our people on city council and you know, my town's a
- 12:46thousand people.
- 12:47South Dakota as a whole probably has less people in it than the city you live in.
- 12:51Right?
- 12:52We're 800,000 or less in the entire state of South Dakota.
- 12:55Right?
- 12:56So
- 12:56three and a half million people in my county.
- 12:58Three and a half million.
- 12:59It's crazy.
- 13:00There's 800,000 in my state.
- 13:02It's 500 miles long and Right.
- 13:05400 miles tall.
- 13:06And this is part
- 13:07of this point.
- 13:08This is what I figured out is and I figured this out by walking through villages in
- 13:11Afghanistan and talking.
- 13:12I used to be a spy.
- 13:13That's what I did.
- 13:13Right?
- 13:13So I I got to know a lot of people, and I would see what what's the ground truth is.
- 13:17Right?
- 13:17And and when we do that for ourselves and we talk to the guy who's the dog catcher slash the
- 13:22veterinarian slash the emergency manager slash the, you know, whatever, plays piano at the
- 13:27church, you all of sudden you realize that I should just be helping this guy, not
- 13:31criticizing him, you know, or oh my gosh.
- 13:33How do we how do we help you?
- 13:35Or, you know, where's and and people become more human, and we become more graceful, and
- 13:41we, become more understanding that all of these problems, there's not enough to go around.
- 13:46I certainly don't wanna go mow all the lawns and your and, you know, the government lawns
- 13:51around the town.
- 13:52Why would you want to do that?
- 13:53But you do it.
- 13:54Oh my god.
- 13:55Who's cleaning these toilets at the city park?
- 13:58Oh my god.
- 13:58There's someone doing that.
- 13:59You don't even think about these things.
- 14:01Someone's out there when it's cold, and and, yeah, I know it gets cold where you guys are,
- 14:05and they're doing whatever it is to make sure that everybody in town stays safe.
- 14:09We lose sight of how hard that work is and how thankless, and it's not great paying work.
- 14:14You know?
- 14:14It's alright.
- 14:15Right?
- 14:15But but when you get to know these folks and they become your neighbors and you can have
- 14:20coffee with them and they get to talk about something besides just their work, man, you
- 14:24really have made a connection and tied that community together.
- 14:27And and our shows do stuff like that.
- 14:29My personal attitude about all these things.
- 14:31I'm the nicest guy in the world when I go to my grocery store.
- 14:34I'm never in a rush.
- 14:35I know everybody's trying to get me through there.
- 14:37They're trying to get me great products.
- 14:38And when I see my my grocers, you know, I I consider them my friends, and I I get to know
- 14:43them over time.
- 14:44And when they leave, I'm I'm sad that they leave.
- 14:46One of my favorite cashiers works tonight.
- 14:48Guess what?
- 14:48I'm gonna shop tonight at my at my local grocery store because I love that dude.
- 14:53He and I and we have this these little thirty second conversations, but that's what it means
- 14:58to to get off this damn look.
- 15:01We need these things.
- 15:02Right?
- 15:02But get off this damn thing and go out and get to know your grocer and understand who they are
- 15:07and what they do.
- 15:08And, you know, maybe they need help with some.
- 15:09Maybe they don't.
- 15:10Maybe they need just to get out of the house and have a good time.
- 15:12And you're like, well, why don't you come down to this park where they have all these bands
- 15:15all summer long?
- 15:17And you're like, someone does that.
- 15:18I mean, you know how this is.
- 15:19You put together an event, and everybody's like, you put together an event?
- 15:23When?
- 15:23You're like, I've been working my eyes out trying to put this thing together.
- 15:26You know?
- 15:27Just come down.
- 15:28All we want you to do is have a great time.
- 15:29Right?
- 15:29All this stuff goes into what we do and how we live.
- 15:33Yeah.
- 15:33It's amazing.
- 15:34I'm really inspired by a guy, you know, maybe one of the original podcasters even though he
- 15:39doesn't get credit for it.
- 15:40Speaking of originals, I got to meet Adam Curry at podcast movement.
- 15:44And, his whole, you know, his whole spiel was serve a small community.
- 15:48You don't need a million followers.
- 15:50You don't need to be Rogan.
- 15:51You don't need to chase these CPM models.
- 15:53You can go find support in your local community.
- 15:56But, I'm so inspired by a guy like Mike Rowe, right, that has been doing this with his shows
- 16:00dirty jobs and all of these things for years.
- 16:03And I heard a podcast episode with him while I was traveling this summer and just continue to
- 16:08be blown away by the man and what he's doing to bring awareness to not just the trades, but to
- 16:14the tradespeople.
- 16:15Right?
- 16:16And getting to know the the people behind theirs and sharing inspiring stories, and it
- 16:21really drives me to want to do more.
- 16:23Pete, you'd be very proud of us.
- 16:24This week, we started a show with our local high school football team to highlight some of
- 16:29the plays from the weekend before.
- 16:30I got the coach who Yeah.
- 16:32My wife works at the school, so we we work out there in the in the high school gym.
- 16:36And, the high school football coach is there, and we start talking ball, and I just get a
- 16:41wild hair, right, where I'm like, hey.
- 16:43Would you like to sit down with me on camera and to talk a few plays through for me?
- 16:47And, you know, I'm kind of a simpleton.
- 16:48I'm a football fan, but I don't know what's going on behind the scenes.
- 16:52Right?
- 16:52So we got to stand in front of the screen and have him do the plays for me, and then I'm able
- 16:57to get access to all of those highlight videos and to produce the show to make it look like
- 17:02you know?
- 17:02It's not perfect like an ESPN show would be, but you could see the potential.
- 17:06And that's where I'm kinda throwing it out to the community.
- 17:09And I was like, look.
- 17:10I need support to do this.
- 17:11It took me an entire day to edit all of this.
- 17:13Right?
- 17:13But if you can support this, I am more than willing to give my time into this and then turn
- 17:18it around.
- 17:19We can make a scholarship.
- 17:20We can make this a cab of the week to accentuate and highlight these young student
- 17:24athletes and to turn this into really something amazing.
- 17:28So I just I I'm so in love with what I'm doing, Pete, and it's really thrilling for me Right.
- 17:33To talk to someone else that's so on fire for this trade that most people still don't really
- 17:39understand what it is.
- 17:41Right?
- 17:41not just
- 17:42It's true.
- 17:42It's not just us talking to our friends and and, you know, god bless all the people with
- 17:47different style of podcast.
- 17:49Mine is about serving the communities, and my communities are varied.
- 17:53I have my music community.
- 17:55I have my, you know, statewide community, which is the, you know, the patriarch run.
- 17:58But I also have my community of people who are, you know, addicts or former addicts or have
- 18:03been to prison like I have or have you know, people that are coming from a life that's not
- 18:08picket fences and the leave it to beaver kind of lifestyle.
- 18:12Right?
- 18:12Yeah.
- 18:12My life was hard, and I've been through a lot.
- 18:15And the only way we keep other young men and young women from going through that is by
- 18:19sharing that now and not waiting until it's too late.
- 18:23So I've been having a great time doing this the last year and a half of my life, and I can't
- 18:28imagine at this point doing absolutely anything else.
- 18:31This is all I think about all the time.
- 18:33And it's not about me.
- 18:35It's about how I can serve these communities continue Yeah.
- 18:40To be a blessing to others.
- 18:42It's true, man.
- 18:43And and I I have tried a number of times to quit, and I I just can't do it.
- 18:47You know, I'll back off.
- 18:48That's kinda how I refill my my pond, but I, you know, I put out I put out a show five days
- 18:54a week.
- 18:54You know?
- 18:54Like, that's my pace, and I I can maintain that.
- 18:59And then I'm like, I've got to back off because that five will grow into six.
- 19:02It'll grow into seven, and I'll just be Right.
- 19:05And and my show is my show is so established and and successful.
- 19:11And, again, no one's ever heard of my show.
- 19:12Here's the thing, everybody.
- 19:13Like, if you wanna get to where I'm at ten years, 2,000 plus episodes, it takes a long
- 19:18time.
- 19:18It takes a lot of work, but there's benefits.
- 19:20Along the way, I've met incredible people.
- 19:22My life has been changed forever by my podcast.
- 19:24The people that I know, the people that I can still meet, the rooms that I get to get into.
- 19:29While we were sitting here,
- 19:30I I Pete, I'm covering a PGA tour event this week because of this silly podcast I started.
- 19:36Right?
- 19:36Where it's just like, what is this world that we live in now?
- 19:39But when you on Musk said we are the media, I really took it to heart.
- 19:43And I was like, oh, you're you're right.
- 19:46Yeah.
- 19:47When when we were sitting here, I got a text.
- 19:49Hey.
- 19:49Get ahold of the Ukrainians.
- 19:51I think I've got a market for their drones.
- 19:53That happened because of my show while we were talking here.
- 19:56Right?
- 19:57Like, this is a crazy I live in a crazy world where I'm like, how how in the world are you
- 20:01and I talking right now, Bubba?
- 20:03And we're talking about podcasting, and I get this potential purchase order.
- 20:06Right?
- 20:07And I'll get a little taste of that deal.
- 20:08Right?
- 20:09Hopefully, it happens.
- 20:10So and and I'm not I'm not a, like, arms dealer.
- 20:13Right?
- 20:13But I am I am a spy.
- 20:14I do connect people.
- 20:15I I understand the value of these things, and people start to appreciate the things that I
- 20:20get to do, and they ask me to do other things for them.
- 20:23I'm not doing anything illegal here either.
- 20:24This as weird as that might sound, this is all legitimate business.
- 20:27Right?
- 20:28And it comes from the podcast thing.
- 20:29So if if you're thinking about making a podcast, look, not everybody gets to do it.
- 20:33Not everybody gets to get ten years in.
- 20:34Not everybody gets to do what you've done in eighteen months.
- 20:37And maybe you're not meant to be a podcaster.
- 20:39Maybe you need to go cut hair.
- 20:40Maybe you need to be a pipe fitter.
- 20:41Maybe something else.
- 20:42But but give whatever it is a shot, and it's alright to fail at it and just say, hey.
- 20:47That didn't work in that form.
- 20:49Right?
- 20:50Let me try again, or let me never go back to that again.
- 20:53I haven't touched a golf club in twenty plus years.
- 20:55It's a true story.
- 20:56Right?
- 20:56I lived in Vegas.
- 20:57I worked for a golf magazine.
- 20:58I could play all the golf I wanted.
- 21:00I'm on a world class course with some of my friends from out of town.
- 21:03In the in the middle of the seventh hole, I said, I'm done playing, fellas.
- 21:07And they're like, oh, you're play to the turn?
- 21:09And then and then and I'm like, no.
- 21:10I'm done right now.
- 21:12You all will figure out how to get around on your own cart.
- 21:14But the me and this cart and my my daughter was hanging out with us, we're headed back to the
- 21:19clubhouse.
- 21:21And I never swung a club, never had a I wasn't mad at golf.
- 21:25I just had reached my my lifetime limit on what I had to do in golf, and I had never touched it
- 21:30again.
- 21:30Right?
- 21:30So it's fine to quit something and say, hey.
- 21:32That's not what I do.
- 21:33You wanna persevere, but, also, you don't have to suffer to persevere.
- 21:38You can say, hey.
- 21:39This podcasting isn't for me.
- 21:41I don't see the path.
- 21:42I wanna support Bubba.
- 21:44And here's a great thing.
- 21:44Support Bubba.
- 21:45Like, I I've got this thing that scrolls across my thing, and no one ever talks about it.
- 21:49I have a PayPal account.
- 21:50And if you wanna put money in it, anybody can.
- 21:52I'm not pitching anybody right now.
- 21:53I'm not gonna gonna give you the link, but that little bit of help goes directly into my
- 21:57pocket.
- 21:58Right?
- 21:58And I take that money, and I might buy gas, or I might buy a new microphone because we need
- 22:03microphones all the time.
- 22:04All this stuff, it all comes from that community connection that we create.
- 22:08And I'm telling you, man, it's this world that we get to do.
- 22:14Elon's right.
- 22:15We are the new media, and we get to hold other media accountable.
- 22:18I I I'm I'm on x all the time, and I see these reporters do their their just because I'm a
- 22:24spy.
- 22:24I know a lot of people.
- 22:25I've learned a lot about information operation cycle psychological warfare.
- 22:30Right?
- 22:30And so when I see their their headline and then I see the way they write the thing, and I'm
- 22:34like, you guys are lying to people.
- 22:36You're not being honest.
- 22:37You know?
- 22:37Like, we see a lot of this with the Israel Hamas war.
- 22:41Right?
- 22:41And and there is so much misinterpretation, purposeful, that happens.
- 22:46There are people that do focus on that stuff.
- 22:48You guys have your your show that sounds like it deals with those things.
- 22:51This is what the new media looks like, and this is a chance for anybody to be involved in these
- 22:56things.
- 22:56And by the way, your high school football show, great idea.
- 22:59You know, support a local business, support a local team, whatever it is.
- 23:03That's a great way to do it.
- 23:04And maybe there's someone at the high school that's like, I would love to get involved.
- 23:07Now you got a little protege.
- 23:08You teach them.
- 23:09They're gonna fall out and fail.
- 23:10Who cares?
- 23:11Pete, that's the best part is that do it.
- 23:14The high school's already doing it.
- 23:16They're already broadcasting all the games on YouTube.
- 23:18And one of the students I realized when we were at the volleyball game last week, they have a
- 23:23student who's doing the broadcasting.
- 23:25It was her first time on there and everything, and I just went up and was like, look.
- 23:28I can't hear the broadcast, but you're doing a great job.
- 23:30Right?
- 23:31You're doing awesome.
- 23:31Like, just keep on going.
- 23:33And and now, you know, having talked with the AV teachers and and what they have going on,
- 23:38that I'm able to go and, you know, offer my thing.
- 23:41Like, do you guys ever talk about podcasts and podcasting?
- 23:44And, like, no.
- 23:44We don't.
- 23:45I would love to at least come in one day and to deliver a talk and then tell people about what
- 23:49I do and to show them what I do now working in the school, and we have plans to take it into
- 23:53all the different sports.
- 23:55I mean, they deserve it.
- 23:56These kids deserve it, and there's no there's no reason that just because you live in a small
- 24:01town doesn't mean that you're not worthy of being highlighted.
- 24:05Right?
- 24:05And I just I'd like I said, the the further you get into it, the the harder it is to pull
- 24:11yourself out.
- 24:12The podcasting world's like quicksand, Pete.
- 24:15It is true.
- 24:16It will it your mind will always spin, and it will distract you.
- 24:20But, yeah, you do like, what that is, like, the next pro level step is how do you focus on
- 24:25where the work is and what shows deserve your attention.
- 24:28I talk a lot about filling up a plate.
- 24:30Like, you know, if your plate is full and you wanna do a podcast, okay.
- 24:34What are you gonna do about that?
- 24:35Because you can buy some capacity because that's what it sounds like you need to do, or
- 24:39you have to get something off your plate.
- 24:41And maybe it's something easy, like, I'm just not gonna be on the phone for five hours a day.
- 24:46You know?
- 24:46I mean and look.
- 24:47We all fall into that trap.
- 24:48So now you're on the phone for two hours a day.
- 24:51You still get to go do all that stuff.
- 24:53But for the other three hours, you work on your podcast, and then you start to change your life
- 24:58in a positive way.
- 24:59Or you go work out for one hour, and then you spend two hours in your podcast.
- 25:03Or you take your girl out, and you go for a walk, or you go down and get a a pop down at
- 25:08the at that one cafe that you've been meaning to go to, and you support that local business.
- 25:12You don't kinda spend a million dollars, but you do gotta get out and go do other things.
- 25:17So if your plate is full with a bunch of nonsense and and junk, get that junk off there
- 25:21and see what you do at that time.
- 25:23And maybe it won't be podcasting.
- 25:24Maybe it won't be playing that guitar.
- 25:26But maybe you decide to write a song a day just to see what happens with no no goal other than
- 25:31can I sit down and write 365 songs in three hundred and sixty five days starting right now?
- 25:37I've always wanted to write.
- 25:39Okay.
- 25:39Great.
- 25:40And you do it.
- 25:40Right?
- 25:41And if you do nothing with those songs, that's alright.
- 25:43I you can always say, I spent a year, and every day I wrote a song.
- 25:47Every single day I wrote a song.
- 25:49You know?
- 25:49And even if you just did DCG and repeated those chords all throughout every single song, it
- 25:54doesn't matter because you did something, and it's so much more than and there's nothing
- 25:58wrong with I scrolled to my phone this morning too.
- 26:01Right?
- 26:01So I'm not saying that.
- 26:02But Right.
- 26:02Right.
- 26:03Well, I I'm laughing so hard because I I had a friend, Clayton O'Ryan, friend of the show that
- 26:09started off on that at the beginning of the year, and he got about midway through April.
- 26:13He's like, I got, like, 50 songs now that I need to record.
- 26:17And to get them out there, I was like, brother, think of that output is just incredible, man,
- 26:22because he was writing some really good material.
- 26:24They weren't throwaways.
- 26:26And and now I was like, well, holy cow.
- 26:28Like, need I need to slow down.
- 26:30Right?
- 26:30I need to change my my shift my attention a little bit.
- 26:34Pete, we Yep.
- 26:35We could sit here and talk all day, man, and it's been such a pleasure getting to know you a
- 26:39little bit here.
- 26:40I know we'll be talking again in the future, but before I let you go, give you a chance to
- 26:44tell everybody where they can find you online and where they can check out your show.
- 26:48Yeah.
- 26:49Super easy.
- 26:49Just type in p d a Turner.
- 26:51I'm on x a lot at and YouTube.
- 26:53You could find me in the other platforms and stuff.
- 26:55And if you just wanna ask me a question, pete@breakitdownshow.com.
- 26:58Super simple.
- 26:59I'll say it again.
- 27:00Pete@breakitdownshow.com.
- 27:02And and I'm glad to I'm glad to talk to you about whatever it is that you need.
- 27:05I don't care about your idea.
- 27:06I I care about what you're gonna do.
- 27:08And and if you're gonna go get busy and get to work, then that's great.
- 27:11And and watch my show.
- 27:12If my show is your your cup of tea, awesome.
- 27:14I'd love
- 27:14to have you.
- 27:15We'll have
- 27:15a great time.
- 27:15You'll love what I do.
- 27:16And if I'm not, hey.
- 27:17Awesome.
- 27:18It's alright.
- 27:18There's a ton of people you can go out and support.
- 27:20There's there's attention for everybody.
- 27:22I hope you all have a great day.
- 27:24Thank you all for listening to me rant and rave about the this great life of being podcast
- 27:28host.
- 27:28But, man, I appreciate you, Bubba.
- 27:30Thank you.
- 27:31Man, I appreciate you, Pete.
- 27:33Thanks for being part of the scene.
