- 0:01Speaker 1: Now we turn to the Breathit Advocate to read news
- 0:04from Jackson and Breathett County. Your reader today is Beth MacLean.
- 0:09We will begin with the addition dated April eighth, twenty
- 0:13twenty six, which is donated by the publisher as a reminder.
- 0:17Rady Wi is a reading service intended for people who
- 0:20are blind or have other disabilities that make it difficult
- 0:23to read printed material. In today's headline article, state says
- 0:28no to new ambulance service for now. During a recent hearing,
- 0:33a local business that was seeking to obtain a license
- 0:36to operate an ambulance service was held and the request
- 0:40was denied. According to officials, a certificate of need was
- 0:43applied for by Arrowwood Medical LLC on October eighth, twenty
- 0:49twenty five, to operate an ambulance service in the county. Currently,
- 0:54Cross Medical has a license in the county to provide
- 0:56ambulance service to the area, but on many occasions in
- 0:59ambambulances sent from the company's Wolf County location to transport
- 1:03the sick and injury to the hospital, causing long delays
- 1:06in response times. The kb EMS board denied the application
- 1:12by Aarwood Medical, citing that they did not notify ambulance
- 1:16services with licenses to operate in Breathet County. According to
- 1:21a representative with Arrowood, they have discovered four or more
- 1:24entities have licenses to operate ambulance services in the county,
- 1:28such as Campbell County, Huntington, Morgan Company, EMS, Cross Medical,
- 1:34University of Kentucky, just to name a few. The ambulance
- 1:38services listed other than Cross Medical do not respond to
- 1:42nine to one one calls in the area. Letters of
- 1:45support for the new ambulance service were submitted by several
- 1:48local medical providers, fire departments, and the local nursing home
- 1:52and hospital. The letters of support cited that the current
- 1:55ambulance service has long turnaround times and response time I'm
- 2:00reaching over forty five minutes. Even though the Kentucky Board
- 2:04of EMS announced a decision the day of the hearing,
- 2:07it has not issued a written ruling as of press time.
- 2:10Until a written ruling is issued in the current case,
- 2:13Arawood Medical cannot refile or pursue the certificate of need
- 2:17for the service license, but company representatives said they do
- 2:21plan to pursue the license once the written decision is issued.
- 2:25Next local CBD slash THHC business closes. A local business
- 2:31that provided CBD and THHC products has permanently closed. Paper
- 2:37and Leaf, located in the Jackson Village shopping center, displays
- 2:40a sign on the door that states permanently closed. The
- 2:44business opened in December of twenty twenty four in the
- 2:47location and was recently visited by the US Drug Enforcement
- 2:51Agency DEA along with others in the city, where cash
- 2:55and product was seized. It is not known what the
- 2:58reason was for the closing. Next, let's play our weekly
- 3:02game of guests who I will give you the prompt twice?

- 4:16Development work has officially begun at the state's high ground
- 4:19site on Highland Avenue in Jackson. The Housing Development Alliance
- 4:23will be the builder bringing this project to life. According
- 4:27to the Alliance, finding land suitable for building multiple homes
- 4:31in Brethett County has been a challenge for years, but
- 4:34while they've been building in Perry not in Leslie Counties,
- 4:37opportunities like this in Breathett haven't come along often until now.
- 4:42Housing has been an issue since the displacement of families
- 4:45due to the twenty twenty one and twenty twenty two floods.

- 8:18I have good memories of all of these restaurants and
- 8:20others not listed above that are currently in business in
- 8:23our town. If you have memories or photos you would

- 8:39Kentucky four one three three nine Next so be it
- 8:45by Pastor Naomi Blessings and lessons. Thank you Lord for
- 8:50everything in my life, the good and bad. Can you
- 8:54truly say this and mean it? We feel everything that
- 8:57happens in our lives is one or the other, a
- 8:59blessing or a lesson. Maybe you feel your life has
- 9:03been mostly lessons while watching others who seem to have
- 9:07blessings all the time. Lessons can be extremely hard at times,
- 9:11and a lot of times we feel that we didn't
- 9:13pass the test. However, lessons can be a blessing in disguise.
- 9:17We learn from them and they make us stronger. Isaiah
- 9:21fifty four seventeen says, no weapon formed against you shall prosper.
- 9:26In times of crisis like the ones we're going through,
- 9:29the enemy will bring the most terrifying thoughts. Your imagination
- 9:33begins to run wild. You can't sleep or eat. It's
- 9:36on your mind constantly. The enemy likes to use his
- 9:39weapons to strike fear in the heart of Christians. For
- 9:42every fear tactic the enemy would bring against you, there's
- 9:45a promise from the Lord in his word that will
- 9:48destroy every weapon that has been formed against you. The
- 9:51weapon has been formed by the enemy, not God. Everything
- 9:55God made and formed was good. So what do we do.
- 9:59We get into the word word of God to see
- 10:01what he has to say. We make our declarations to
- 10:04him Isaiah forty one thirteen. For I the Lord thy
- 10:09God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, fear not.
- 10:13I will help thee. No matter if the world seems
- 10:15to be crumbling around you, God remains Psalm twenty seven,
- 10:20verses thirteen through fourteen. I had fainted unless I had
- 10:24believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the
- 10:26land of the living. Wait on the Lord, be of
- 10:29good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart. Wait, I
- 10:33say on the Lord. Nothing the enemy can come up
- 10:36with will prosper. According to Isaiah fifty four seventeen, the
- 10:40pain you have been feeling can't compare to the joy
- 10:43that is coming Romans eighth, verse eighteen. Even when the
- 10:47whole world changes around you, God's kindness will not depart.
- 10:51Stand firm on his word through the whole process. Put
- 10:54on the armor of God and pray. Stand and don't retreat.
- 10:58Hold fast. Whether turns out to be a lesson or
- 11:01a blessing in our eyes, God still blesses his children
- 11:04every day. Train your mind to hear what God whispers
- 11:08and not what the enemy may be shouting. When the
- 11:11Bible says, do not lean on your own understanding. The
- 11:14Bible is serious. Your heart is deceitful, your emotions fluctuate.
- 11:19Your understanding does not see the overall big picture. God
- 11:23never lies, God never changes, God knows all trust him. Yes,
- 11:29we will learn from our trials and lessons that God's
- 11:31plan for us will prevail, and those trials and lessons
- 11:34will become blessings. You may not see it during the moment,
- 11:37but just hold on to God's unchanging hand, standing on
- 11:41his promises, and you will see your blessings coming down
- 11:44that dusty road. Amen, and so be it written. June

- 12:22This article was also reprinted on May the first, twenty
- 12:26twenty four. We next move over to talking pictures by
- 12:30Brian Scomb's Return of the Jedi, directed by Richard Markwand
- 12:36nineteen eighty three. A few months ago, my daughter asked
- 12:39me if she and I could watch all the Star
- 12:41Wars films in chronological order. I didn't want to appear
- 12:45overly enthusiastic, so I did a backflip and two cartwheales
- 12:48before saying yes. Once the credits rolled on Return of
- 12:51the Jedi, we don't acknowledge the sequel trilogy in this house.
- 12:54I asked her what her favorite Star Wars film was,
- 12:57and she said, Return of the Jedi. You particularly enjoyed
- 13:01Vader's Redemption and the Ewoks. Return of the Jedi is
- 13:05a masterclass on how to stick the landing. Following the
- 13:09many cliffhangers and brilliance of its predecessor, The Emperor Strikes Back,
- 13:13Return of the Jedi may have had the highest expectations
- 13:16of any film in the history of cinema leading up
- 13:18to its release. It opens with a great set piece
- 13:21in Java's palace and the deserts of Tatuine, watching Luke
- 13:26go from a naive and whiny farmer in a new
- 13:29hope to bad to the Bone Jedi over the trilogy
- 13:32is amazing. Mark Hamill gives the best performance of his
- 13:35career in Return of the Jedi, and it's not even close.
- 13:39Even though we can only see his helmet. Somehow, Vader
- 13:42shows a range of emotion in the climactic scene. The
- 13:45best scene in the entire Star Wars trilogy is when
- 13:47Palpatine tries to turn Luke to the dark side. You
- 13:50can feel the conflict within Vader as he watches the
- 13:53Emperor due to his son what he did to him
- 13:56all those years ago. When Vader sacrifices himself to kill
- 13:59the Palpatine and save Luke and bring balance to the Force,
- 14:04it will give you chills, whether it's the first time
- 14:06you've watched it or the hundredth I have seen this
- 14:09film many times over my life. However, sharing them with
- 14:12my daughter and seeing her reaction to certain scenes that
- 14:14she was seeing for the first time may be the
- 14:17one I treasure the most. See you at the Movies,

- 14:26at gmail dot com. With the exception of news programming,
- 14:31the Tonight Show holds the distinction as the longest continuously
- 14:35aired program in the history of American network television, after
- 14:39more than seventy years on the air. Its longevity is impressive,
- 14:42but not mysterious. The show perfected the deceptively simple formula
- 14:47of comedic monologue, celebrity interviews, and the musical guests that
- 14:51proved so effective it became the blueprint for virtually every
- 14:54late night talk show that followed. Some imitators thrived David
- 14:59Letterman It's an Empire on the model, Arsenio Hall briefly
- 15:03turned late night on its head in the early nineties.
- 15:06Others crashed magnificently. Chevy Chase and Magic Johnson each hosted
- 15:11shows that seemingly failed before the credits ran. The Tonight
- 15:15Show creator and original host was a young man named
- 15:18Steve Allen, whose resume defies easy summary. Comedian, radio personality, author, musician, composer,
- 15:26television pioneer. Entire books have been written about his contributions
- 15:30to the medium, but one of my favorite bits he
- 15:32invented was the man on the Street interview. Allan would
- 15:36simply step outside the studio and question ordinary New Yorkers,
- 15:40often with absurd or leading prompts designed to produce hilarious answers.
- 15:45The charm was its apparent spontaneity. Whether it was genuine
- 15:49hardly mattered. The format proved durable, resurfacing decades later in
- 15:53Jay Leno's jay Walking segments and Billy Eichner's Frantic Billy
- 15:57on the Street. A few years back, Jimmy Kimmel adapted
- 16:01the concept for a father's day segment called pop Quiz.
- 16:05The premise was beautifully simple. Fathers were asked basic questions
- 16:08about their own children. They struggled magnificently. They missed teachers, names, schools,
- 16:14eye colors, and even birthdays. When the mothers stepped in
- 16:17and answered every question correctly, without missing a beat, it
- 16:20was funny, and, if we're being honest, a little sad.
- 16:24I understand television magic producers may well have interviewed one
- 16:28hundred fathers to find a handful who appeared gloriously clueless.
- 16:32The whole segment could have been staged. But the reason
- 16:35the bit works, the reason we laugh, is that it
- 16:37doesn't feel absurd. Most of us recognize the truth behind it.
- 16:41On average, mothers simply know more about the daily details
- 16:44of their children's lives than fathers do, and that reality
- 16:48points to something larger. Our society expects an extraordinary amount
- 16:52from mothers at any given moment. They are expected to
- 16:56know what supplies are needed for school, what's happening in
- 16:58the classroom, when soccer practice starts, what the weekend looks like,
- 17:03which groceries are running low, and when the laundry needs doing,
- 17:06and whether anyone has a doctor's appointment coming up. That's
- 17:09before we even get to their own careers, ambitions, and obligations.
- 17:13I'm as guilty as anyone When I ask my wife, honey,
- 17:16have you seen my keys? It feels like an innocent question.
- 17:20In truth, it's one more straw laid across a camel
- 17:23already staggering under the weight, especially if that's the fortieth
- 17:27question she's fielded in the past hour. And when one
- 17:30of my kids ask me something, it's far too easy
- 17:32to shrug and say, I don't know, go ask your mother.
- 17:35My wife has tried to explain this mental weight to me.
- 17:38Listening to the explanation alone is exhausting. I genuinely cannot
- 17:42imagine living with it every day. In recent years, someone
- 17:46cleverly named this phenomenon the mother load. It refers to
- 17:50the invisible, relentless mental labor required to keep a family
- 17:53running smoothly. It's a burden society quietly places on mothers,
- 17:58expecting them not only to respond to everybody's needs, but
- 18:01to anticipate them as well. They are expected to be kind, patient, thoughtful,
- 18:07and endlessly accommodating all admirable qualities, of course, but they
- 18:12become a trap when someone feels personally responsible for the
- 18:15comfort and happiness of everyone around them. Perhaps it shouldn't
- 18:19surprise us that women are diagnosed with depression and anxiety
- 18:22at roughly twice the rate of men, given the mental
- 18:26and emotional demands placed upon them. The real surprise may
- 18:29be that the number isn't higher. There's an anonymous quote
- 18:33that captures this all with painful precision. Motherhood is the
- 18:37exquisite inconvenience of being another person's everything. I wish I
- 18:41had real answers. I try to carry more of this
- 18:44mental burden at home, though I fail at it more
- 18:47than Chevy Chase failed in his monologues. And even when
- 18:50I do manage to take something off my wife's plate,
- 18:53she often struggles to relinquish it, not because she wants
- 18:56to carry it, but because after years of practice, it
- 18:59has simply become sex nature and is now hardwired into
- 19:02her personality. Maybe the least we can do is acknowledge
- 19:05that the mother load exists, and that is a tremendous
- 19:08weight for any person to bear. Perhaps we can do
- 19:11a little more to help shoulder it. But even when
- 19:14we fall short, recognizing the burden might offer at least
- 19:17a small measure of comfort to the women who have
- 19:20been quietly carrying it all along. Next we go to
- 19:24from the Counselor's Desk by Randy Cloth LPCC NCC finding
- 19:30Peace in the hear and Now, when it comes right
- 19:34down to it, several main issues cause distress. We may
- 19:37be troubled by the mistakes, poor choices, or shortcomings of
- 19:41the past. Numerous regrets may haunt us. It is helpful
- 19:45to remember that we cannot change the past, but we
- 19:47can strive to do better today. A friend told me
- 19:50he strives each day to be a little better. Then
- 19:53there are the pressures and stresses of everyday life, and last,
- 19:57but not least, we may be worried about many things
- 19:59concer earning our future. In other words, our past present circumstances,
- 20:04and future can cause us all kinds of emotional pain.
- 20:08This is especially true if we think about all this obsessively.
- 20:12Apparently this is easy to do because it is a
- 20:14problem for so many. I often hear people say they
- 20:17overthink and all of this is part of that. So
- 20:20what can we do to deal with all of this
- 20:22more effectively? Mindfulness says to live in the here and now,
- 20:26not the past or even the future. No really a
- 20:29new concept. Our church's Sunday School Lesson a few weeks
- 20:32ago covered this. In fact, Matthew six point thirty four says, therefore,
- 20:37do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about
- 20:40its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
- 20:44It's likely a daily task. But strive not to dwell
- 20:47on the past or worry excessively about the future. After all,
- 20:51it is not helpful, not necessarily easy, I know, but
- 20:55possible with persistence and perseverance. Good News, the Bible makes
- 21:00it clear that there is forgiveness for the past and
- 21:02hope for the future. For those who believe. I don't
- 21:05know about you, but I need the Lord's help with
- 21:07all of this. Remember, no matter what challenges you may
- 21:10be facing, keep hoping, praying, believing, and trusting, and do
- 21:15not give up. If you were someone you know is
