- 0:00Hey there everybody. Welcome back to another episode
- 0:03of the Take to Pod with Mom and Dad.
- 0:06I'm Dad. And I'm mom.
- 0:08And we are now at episode 7. And I just want to give a quick
- 0:13shout out to my little brother. It's his 30th birthday this
- 0:17weekend, so happy birthday little bro.
- 0:20He's also our #1 fan. I was putting the baby down and
- 0:25I just hear havoc being wreaked in the next room.
- 0:29Yeah. Reek.
- 0:30Reek is the key. Word that was reeking.
- 0:34He left the little man in the tub for a bit to get bathed and
- 0:38then come in and scrub them down and all that.
- 0:40And I go in and I smell something like, what is that God
- 0:44awful stench? And the the the pool, the pool,
- 0:47the bath water was brown. He had decided to take a shit in
- 0:52the bath and I'm like, buddy. So I had to take him out, drain
- 0:58the tub. Put them, wash them again.
- 1:00Hose them down like prison movie and like scrub him down
- 1:05completely and it was just not pleasant.
- 1:09I honestly, I don't want to talk about it.
- 1:10It's just upsetting. He was really cute in story time
- 1:13after though. Yeah, he was great.
- 1:15We were reading the paper bag Princess and he thinks that the
- 1:18the Princess looks like my mom so he kept saying it's.
- 1:23In the most when she's at her like worst.
- 1:26Which is funny because kids say crazy.
- 1:29Stuff mom doesn't have. Course, she's a beautiful queen.
- 1:32I said the Princess was unhorse. OHS.
- 1:34Yeah, trying to set me up. That was a setup.
- 1:37Anyways, we're here at episode 7, Lucky number 7, and the lucky
- 1:43movie for tonight is Drumroll Mom.
- 1:51You think that's air you're breathing?
- 1:53That's right, everybody. This week we're doing The
- 1:56Matrix, released in 1999, directed by the Wachowskis and
- 2:02starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and Carrie Anne Moss.
- 2:06Oh hell yeah, I've been itching to do this movie.
- 2:09And if you are a fan of The Matrix, welcome to the real.
- 2:14Dad loves this movie. We do have a poster of this
- 2:17movie, Our Basement. Ohe yeah, we're both looking at
- 2:20it right now. Yeah, Myron.
- 2:22Myron, love that poster. So this movie.
- 2:27Let's get into the synopsis. When a beautiful stranger leads
- 2:32computer hacker Neo to a forbidding underworld, he
- 2:35discovers the shocking truth. The life he knows is the
- 2:39elaborate deception of an evil cyber intelligence.
- 2:43Hell yeah, Give me that synopsis Beach.
- 2:46You like that one? Yeah, that's a good one.
- 2:49That's the first one you've liked.
- 2:51I like a lot of them. This one's really good.
- 2:53Box office for this movie. 470 + 1,000,000 worldwide on a budget
- 2:59of 63,000,000, so it made bank. Yeah, very.
- 3:03Good. And it came out in 1999, which
- 3:06was a very honestly, it was the perfect time for this movie to
- 3:09come out because right before the Millennium, there was a lot
- 3:11of, you know, Y2K stuff happening.
- 3:14And this movie just kind of it, it made people really think
- 3:17about what they're, what their lives were and what was gonna
- 3:21happen to their lives in the new Millennium.
- 3:23Yeah, that era has a very unique feel and style, and this movie
- 3:28is a part of of the iconic late 90s for sure.
- 3:32Yeah, this movie, it means honestly, I have a very deep
- 3:37connection to this movie. Very, very big fan of this
- 3:40movie. So let's get started.
- 3:42When was the first time you watched this Mum?
- 3:46Like I always say, I don't have a super like clear memory.
- 3:51I do have an older brother, so there was a lot of stuff I saw
- 3:56when I was too young to really appreciate it.
- 3:59So I definitely saw bits and pieces of this movie before I
- 4:01ever watched it in full. And then of course, when we were
- 4:04dating, you encouraged me to watch the whole thing.
- 4:07And I kind of, I kind of scoffed and said like, oh, that's a boy
- 4:10movie. But I watched it and it wasn't
- 4:13bad. It wasn't bad.
- 4:14It's one of the most highest rated movies ever.
- 4:17But yeah, it's not bad. It's not bad.
- 4:19Yeah, it's not really my style, but I do like it.
- 4:22It's fair enough. So yeah, that was the first time
- 4:26you watched it fully was with. Me, I think the first time I
- 4:28watched it and comprehended what I was actually watching was with
- 4:31you. Yeah.
- 4:32Yeah, but you've heard about it. Like you obviously know the
- 4:35culture, the pop culture effect of this movie and the impact.
- 4:39Everybody knew what it was, and everybody recognized how many
- 4:41parodies and everything. Yeah, all across pop culture.
- 4:44There were of this heavy parodies.
- 4:46Yeah, very much so. So first time I watched this
- 4:49movie, I was 10 years old and it was a very dark time in my like
- 4:57in my life, like family wise, there's a lot of stuff
- 5:00happening. And my oldest brother said, hey,
- 5:04the Matrix is in the movies, let's go to the movies, let's
- 5:07watch it. And he had already seen it like
- 5:094 times. So we get to the movie theatre
- 5:13and we're standing out front and my other brother who I hadn't
- 5:17seen in a while. And by a while, I mean like a
- 5:20month or two, he was there and I was super excited because I
- 5:26hadn't seen him in a while. And you know, I gave him a big
- 5:30hug and the three of us, we went into the movies, grab some
- 5:34popcorn and we watched this movie together and it was a very
- 5:37special experience for me. Ohk that is special.
- 5:41And it was a wicked movie on top of everything.
- 5:44So I remember on the we took the bus because we didn't have a
- 5:48car. Well my brother didn't have a
- 5:49car and I was too young. But we took the bus to the movie
- 5:51theatre and he asked me what do you think the Matrix is?
- 5:55And I, I remember my response. I said I think the matrix like a
- 6:0010 year old response. I said the Matrix is a box and
- 6:03these people are in it and they fight in the box and they have
- 6:06to get out. Which isn't wrong if you think
- 6:10about it like that. Was just a guess from the
- 6:12commercials. Yeah, but he knew he was about
- 6:14to blow your mind. Did you comprehend it at 10?
- 6:18Some parts, some parts there was a lot of.
- 6:20There's a lot of philosophical parts in this movie that you
- 6:23don't get as a kid. Yeah, you don't even get as an
- 6:26adult. You have to watch it like 4
- 6:27times to pick up on a lot of it. You can easily spiral thinking
- 6:32about the plot of this movie. It can.
- 6:34It can mess you. Up And it's not because it's
- 6:36incoherent, it's just very, very philosophical.
- 6:40It's not incoherent at all. It actually the vision is very,
- 6:45very well portrayed. You can tell that there was a
- 6:48strong vision for this movie. And unfortunately, a lot of
- 6:51times in Hollywood, people with money will come in and say I
- 6:55want these certain things done. You can tell that wouldn't
- 6:58happen here. Yeah, they interfere and they
- 7:00and they ruin it. We we've seen it time and time
- 7:02again with great stories, like Girl on a Train is an example.
- 7:05The book was excellent, but the movie sucked.
- 7:08But you can tell that there was a clear vision in this movie and
- 7:11everybody involved in the movie was working towards that vision
- 7:14and it was executed properly, which is a beautiful thing when
- 7:18that happens. Yeah, I agree.
- 7:20You know this movie, I love this movie very much and shout out to
- 7:24my brothers. By the way, if you're listening
- 7:26to this, that was a, if you remember that happening.
- 7:29But that was a great, great day watching this in the theatres.
- 7:34So why do you like this movie or why do you hate it so much?
- 7:39So I don't hate it. OHT, here we go.
- 7:43Another agent got an agent in. The house, there are some things
- 7:47about this movie that are a little bit off OK, and I'm going
- 7:52to go into them later. I definitely, like I said, I
- 7:55like it and I think that the vision of it is is well done.
- 8:00It's a well done movie, but I do have some issues with it and of
- 8:04course I'll go. I'll just like to state for the
- 8:07people listening, there's nothing in this movie.
- 8:09But anyway, go ahead. But it is interesting and it
- 8:13does keep you engaged. I will say that it's it's very
- 8:17unique. OK, so you like it, you hate it,
- 8:20you love it. Like what is going?
- 8:21I do like it, but we'll get into some of the issues I have.
- 8:24With OK, alright, she's not gonna elaborate.
- 8:27OK, my turn, I guess. This movie.
- 8:30I love this movie, don't even need to say it.
- 8:33Bullet time. Like those two words.
- 8:36Bullet time. This movie started the next
- 8:38generation of action and sci-fi all in once special effects.
- 8:45The movie makes you think, it makes you question your own
- 8:48reality. People still talk about this
- 8:51movie and they question are we in a simulation?
- 8:54Are we in the Matrix? Like what is going on?
- 8:58It still holds up. Even the concepts hold up,
- 9:01they're actually more pertinent nowadays and.
- 9:05Yeah. A big reason for that is sci-fi
- 9:07or, sorry, AI. Yeah.
- 9:09So I love this movie. It is aged tremendously.
- 9:13It's 27 years old now, this movie, and it has aged
- 9:17tremendously. So let's get into the segments.
- 9:20Let's do it. OK, cringiest moment.
- 9:23Go ahead. OK, so give me all your.
- 9:26Get. This is actually one of your
- 9:28favorite scenes, but I find it really disgusting.
- 9:29Fucked. So when Agent Smith talks about
- 9:33tasting Morpheus's. Sting.
- 9:35Oh my God. And wipes the sweat off his head
- 9:37and then like rubs the sweaty fingers into his nose.
- 9:41You. That's scene is so fucking
- 9:45amazing acting. Yeah, but it's gross.
- 9:48She's all weaving Slade in this movie.
- 9:51I agree. I don't know how he wasn't
- 9:52nominated for an. Oscar, I think you're, I think
- 9:54it's supposed to be. Portrayed being a computer, a
- 9:57humanoid computer system. Like exactly like just cold
- 10:02calculated, no emotion. Just like oh man.
- 10:06He does show a little bit of emotion a few times.
- 10:08Yeah, that's they take, they go into that in the next movie.
- 10:11But anyway. That's.
- 10:13Crazy. Is that scene supposed to be
- 10:14gross? Because it's disgusting.
- 10:16I think it's supposed to be offensive, like repulsive.
- 10:19It yeah, but it's that I don't like.
- 10:21It does. It does the job.
- 10:23On top of that. Oh boy.
- 10:26No offence. Ohe boy, I'm getting offended.
- 10:29I'm getting I talked to Karen, I talked about this in the Speed
- 10:32movie. Keanu Reeves is a bad actor.
- 10:36He's perfect for this role. He is a bit stiff and awkward.
- 10:40He's perfect. And Carrie Anne Moss is stiff
- 10:43and awkward in this movie as well.
- 10:44I don't know if it's part of the like the, I don't even know what
- 10:49you would call it like the, the vibe of the movie, but there's
- 10:53some like, cause Morpheus also is a little bit.
- 10:55I know that Laurence Fishburne is a tremendous actor, but his
- 10:58his he's a bit stiff and awkward in this movie.
- 11:00Like Laurence Fishburne almost a little bit robot awkward almost
- 11:04a little bit. Yeah, they're all a little bit
- 11:05robotic. You fuck.
- 11:06What movie did you watch? Laurence Fishburne does deliver.
- 11:10Some of the best dialogue. I told you it's a good.
- 11:13Movie, we are gonna argue. It's a good movie, but I have
- 11:15some issues. With an awkward.
- 11:17Some of his monologues in this movie are amazing and.
- 11:21Just let me finish 4. Carry on.
- 11:25Moss and Keanu Reeves have zero chemistry in this movie and
- 11:30they're supposed to be in. Love, I think that you don't
- 11:31that's supposed to be like. That you don't feel the heat or
- 11:34the sex at all? It's supposed to be like.
- 11:37That I don't like when they kiss.
- 11:39It's weird. It's supposed to be like that,
- 11:40and I'll tell you why later. I'll tell you why you're wrong.
- 11:42You me tell you right now. I'll tell you right now.
- 11:43OK, why don't you just tell us your cringiest moment and calm
- 11:46down. I am so getting so.
- 11:48Don't look calm, eyes twitching. You don't talk shit about this
- 11:53movie. OK, I'm not.
- 11:55I'm. I'm just kidding critiquing it.
- 11:57Alright, alright, so cringiest moment for me.
- 12:01The scene would switch when Cypher betrays them and he the
- 12:06phone rings. Trinity picks up and Cypher had
- 12:08just killed Tank. He shot Tank with the electric
- 12:13gun and he killed Dozer and he pulls the plug on Apoc.
- 12:20Apoc falls, dies because he disconnects Apox.
- 12:26His. Brain plugs Jack in.
- 12:27They call it like he's jacked in, right?
- 12:29So his his brain plug. Let's call it the brain.
- 12:31Plug, he's jacking it. Yeah, he's jacking it.
- 12:34He disconnects Apox brain plug while he's still in the matrix,
- 12:38so he dies and then switches next to his dead body.
- 12:42She looks up at Trinity and goes out of nowhere.
- 12:45She just has like a Russian Eastern European accent.
- 12:48She goes not like this, not like this, and then she falls over.
- 12:54Her acting is terrible, like her falling over and then the way
- 12:58she falls and dies is like comical.
- 13:00It's supposed to be a really intense scene and it just kind
- 13:02of takes you out of it. Way more believable.
- 13:05Yeah, but those two characters, we didn't really get to know
- 13:07them, so it doesn't really make us that sad when they die.
- 13:11No, but the acting like Apog dying, he looks at Trinity, goes
- 13:15Trinity and then he just falls over.
- 13:17But his fall and his everything was more real.
- 13:20Yeah, Switch even her scene when they go meet Neil to take the
- 13:25bug out of his stomach. The delivery of reliance.
- 13:29It's like, listen here copper top do it our way or the
- 13:32highway. Like it's so copper top means he
- 13:35doesn't have red hair. Does that mean you have red
- 13:37hair? He's plugged into the matrix
- 13:40their batteries. OK, good writing, hey.
- 13:46Cause when I heard her say copper top I was like he's
- 13:48black. So they're basically batteries,
- 13:50the power of the the the machines.
- 13:52OK, I see. I see.
- 13:53Morpheus even says you can turn a human being into this and he
- 13:56holds a Duracell battery up. Please explaining everything to
- 13:59Neil. Did you miss that part?
- 14:02Can you calm down? I'm asking you.
- 14:04I am calm. I'm.
- 14:05I'm. Asking coming at me right now.
- 14:06No, just shoot. You came for fucking the matrix
- 14:09bro OK. I have some nice things to.
- 14:11Say most iconic moment and we'll do quotes after.
- 14:15Go ahead, most iconic moment. So hit me if you can.
- 14:20So that whole Kung Fu scene with Neo and Morpheus is so lit.
- 14:26OK, So like that's that's my scene.
- 14:27The fighting is like, really? Cool, one of the most
- 14:29rewatchable scenes. Like you can go on YouTube and
- 14:31just play that. You have?
- 14:33Yeah. And he's learning.
- 14:34He's learning that like the laws of physics don't really apply to
- 14:36him anymore. I don't come fu.
- 14:40Show me. This is a sparring program
- 14:45similar to the programmed reality of the Matrix.
- 14:48It has the same basic rules, rules like gravity.
- 14:50What you must learn is that these rules are no different
- 14:53than the rules of a computer system.
- 14:54Some of them can be bent, others can be broken.
- 14:59Understand. Then hit me.
- 15:03If you can. And slowly kind of figuring out
- 15:05how to fight in the matrix. So that was that was really
- 15:08cool. That was one of the scenes that
- 15:09I tested our projector when I first set it up.
- 15:12So I only have 4 quotes so can I just do mine because I know you
- 15:16this is probably going to cancel out some of yours and I know you
- 15:18have more. Important.
- 15:20OK. So like you said at the
- 15:23beginning of the podcast, you think that's area breathing?
- 15:25Do you think that's air you're? Breathing, it's cool cause he's
- 15:28like out of breath and it, it's one of those moments.
- 15:31Reminding him that he's in a computer system.
- 15:33It crosses you over. It's like, oh shit, he's not
- 15:35breathing. You're like what?
- 15:37Too fast? Do you believe that my being
- 15:41stronger or faster has anything to do with my muscles in this
- 15:46place? You think that's air you're
- 15:52breathing now? He's sitting in a chair.
- 15:54He's he's not even in. There the simulation.
- 15:56It's crazy. Also during that scene, come on,
- 16:01stop trying to hit me and hit me.
- 16:02Come on, stop. Trying to hit me and hit me.
- 16:04That's my that's one of my favorites.
- 16:06It's such a good line. And also I, I feel like that has
- 16:09been parodied a lot. Like anytime somebody has a
- 16:11sensei and who's teaching them, yeah, that's always, you know,
- 16:15you gotta try. You gotta try to defeat
- 16:17yourself. Some more hit yourself, do some
- 16:18nods to old school Kung Fu movies, like when they're doing
- 16:20that fight scene. Neo, he kind of like, blows his
- 16:25nose a little bit like Bruce Lee.
- 16:28Yeah. And that was improvised.
- 16:29That wasn't in the script. Oh.
- 16:31Yeah, that's pretty cool. He like gets ready the second
- 16:34time. He kind of wipes his nose.
- 16:35Bruce Lee does that in his movies.
- 16:36Yeah, I feel like we see the trying to hit the sensei or
- 16:40trying to defeat the sensei in a lot of movies, like try to
- 16:43snatch the grasshopper from my hand.
- 16:45And in Kill Bill when she has to battle against her Master as
- 16:49well. So it's a it's it's very
- 16:52necessary. So when Cipher is eating the
- 16:56snake, eating the steak, you know, I know this steak doesn't
- 17:00exist. I know when I put it in my
- 17:02mouth, the Matrix is telling my brain that it's juicy and
- 17:05delicious. And after nine years, you know
- 17:07what I realize Ignorance is bliss.
- 17:14Then we have a deal. I love that scene because it
- 17:18really does illustrate. It's not easy to leave the, it's
- 17:23not easy to leave the Matrix and live this life that they're
- 17:25living. It sucks and it's yeah, it's
- 17:28horrible and honestly I understand why Cipher wanted to
- 17:33defect. So you would take the blue pill?
- 17:37We'll talk about that later. You want to get into this now?
- 17:40We'll talk about that later. But just like the fact that they
- 17:42have to eat like that porridge everyday.
- 17:44Cereal. Oatmeal.
- 17:46Like, imagine eating that and then you're like, I just want
- 17:49pizza. Just one time.
- 17:50Yeah, I just want some pizza. Well, I think you go into the
- 17:53matrix and then have food. I have something about that
- 17:56later. And then my last quote is he's
- 18:01beginning to believe and then it just zooms in on Morpheus with
- 18:04his gap ass tooth. Laurence Fishburne is the GOAT.
- 18:10He's so good. Yeah, it is a funny team.
- 18:12He's just like. I'll talk about his acting
- 18:15later. His teeth, those was ugly like
- 18:17in that scene his gap is so. The I give him a lot of credit
- 18:22for the acting in this movie because he's a very serious
- 18:25actor and the way he had like there's some scenes where he's
- 18:30so joyful and he has this boyish like innocence in his like
- 18:36belief in Neo that it's like you, you really have to really
- 18:41act to pull that off. And he does it.
- 18:44It's very. Yeah.
- 18:46Like a grown ass man being like he's beginning to believe, like
- 18:50he's so excited, you know? It's like Santa.
- 18:54Yeah, he's Santa Claus. That makes it cute.
- 18:57Anymore quotes? No, that was all I had.
- 19:00That's why I wanted to go first because I knew that you have
- 19:02probably strapped in. While.
- 19:05He just reads the whole script he whips out.
- 19:07The script at the ready. OK, stop trying to hit me and
- 19:12hit me. I can taste your stink again.
- 19:20When Morpheus beats Neo and he's like a gun, we just do that.
- 19:25We play pick up basketball or something and the game is over.
- 19:28And you just like again, when he tells Neo when he's doing the
- 19:35jump, free your mind. And then he does the crazy jump
- 19:40from one building to another. So epic.
- 19:42Yeah, but they're also disappointed when he when he
- 19:44drops in the. No, no, no morphism.
- 19:47He he pulls it off was lit. Yeah, but when the oil falls,
- 19:50they're all really disappointed because they thought he was the
- 19:52one. They can't blow the wad right
- 19:54away. True.
- 19:55What is the Matrix? That's a great quote.
- 19:58It's in the movie a bunch of times.
- 20:00Actually, the marketing for this movie was very secretive.
- 20:04They showed some clips in the trailers, but they had a website
- 20:07because the Internet was still in its infancy and the website
- 20:10was called what is the matrix.com?
- 20:12And it didn't give anything. Away.
- 20:13I wish they would do that more. Half the time you see a trailer
- 20:17and it ruins the movie. Love that the Odyssey is showing
- 20:20us absolutely nothing. I know that's Christopher Nolan.
- 20:24He's genius. I.
- 20:25Can I can actually get like excited about that movie because
- 20:27I'm like, what is it gonna? Be when Inception came out, it
- 20:30just showed you a couple of clips and you're.
- 20:32Just the music, remember? Bone, 22222222.
- 20:43That's all you need. Yeah, so good.
- 20:46And then every trailer for the next 5-6 years was blah.
- 20:50Yeah, now it's milk. That every trailers is it's a
- 20:57there's like a metronome sound in the background and then they
- 21:01take a sound effect like of a door closing and they add it.
- 21:04They go and it just keeps adding sounds.
- 21:10That's yeah. And it like, speedily goes
- 21:12through the story. Yeah, they also did the they're
- 21:14very, they did the nursery rhyme, but in a creepy way.
- 21:18Like, you know, for certain movies.
- 21:19Twinkle, twinkle little. Yeah, but that'll be for, like,
- 21:23a horror movie. Yeah.
- 21:25Anyway, we're going off on a tangent.
- 21:26Go back to your boat. Back to the quotes Karaoke.
- 21:30You think that's air you're breathing?
- 21:32The one you said one of my faves.
- 21:34It's a good one when you just RIP a fucking nasty fart and
- 21:38somebody goes, ohhhhh what the? And then you go, you think
- 21:41that's air you're breathing. Ignorance is bliss.
- 21:45That's Cipher with the steak. Goodbye, Mr. Anderson, my name
- 21:54is Neo. Epic guns.
- 21:59Lots of guns. That was a wicked one.
- 22:01That was in the trailer. I know Kung Fu when he wakes up
- 22:06from the training. Why you whispering?
- 22:08I'm doing my Keanu Reeves matrix voice.
- 22:12What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge bullets.
- 22:15No Neo trying to tell you that when you're ready, you won't
- 22:22have to. Epic line and it's a foreshadow
- 22:25to what happens later. A Deja Vu is usually a glitch in
- 22:28the matrix. It happens when they change
- 22:30something. You say that all the time
- 22:32anytime anyone mentions Deja Vu around.
- 22:35You, it's like, it's funny, it's in line.
- 22:38But he says, oh, a black cat. Deja vu.
- 22:41It's to the point. Everybody freezes.
- 22:42It's to the point where I avoid saying deja vu because I know
- 22:45you're gonna do that. But think about it.
- 22:46It's like you can't say playoffs in front of my dad or else he'll
- 22:49go playoffs. Did you just say Playhouse?
- 22:52Yo. It's like you can't say playoffs
- 22:55in front of my dad or else he'll go playoffs.
- 22:57Why did you just say playoffs? Yo, but seriously, it really it
- 23:04kind of explains deja Vu's because people see something
- 23:08they go, oh, I'm, I'm, I'm experiencing A Deja vu and is
- 23:13it, are we in a simulation? Is it a glitch in the computer
- 23:16program? Like?
- 23:18What is the reason for? I've had so much deja vu lately
- 23:21because I'm doing things with our daughter that three years
- 23:24ago I did with our son. Yeah, I'm having deja vu because
- 23:27I'm doing a very similar thing with a baby that looks almost
- 23:30identical. You.
- 23:31Didn't tell me you're having deja vu.
- 23:33Yeah, every time. A Deja vu is usually a glitch in
- 23:36the matrix. It happens when they change.
- 23:37Something. This is why I don't say it.
- 23:40Got him. He goes full dad.
- 23:47Cypher says buckle yourself in Dorothy, cause Kansas is going
- 23:52bye bye, which is a wicked nod to Wizard of Oz.
- 23:54Yeah, and it was in the trailers when this movie came out.
- 23:58Do not try and bend the spoon, that's impossible.
- 24:02Only tried to realize the truth. What truth?
- 24:06There is no. Spoon.
- 24:10There is no spoon. Then you'll see that it is not
- 24:13the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.
- 24:19That's from Spoon Boy. Spoon boy, Little ball boy.
- 24:23And then one of my favorites from one of my favorite scenes
- 24:25of the movie, Morpheus goes when Neil's all hooked up to get
- 24:30unplugged from the Matrix, he goes.
- 24:32Have you ever had a dream, Neo that you were sure it was so
- 24:35real? What if you were unable to wake
- 24:37from that dream? How would you know the
- 24:39difference between the dream world and the real world?
- 24:42So sick, such good writing. And then when Neo falls, he does
- 24:47the building jump and then he's his mouth is bleeding.
- 24:51I thought it wasn't real. Your mind makes it real.
- 24:55If you're killed in the matrix, you die here.
- 24:58The body cannot live without the mind.
- 25:00What kind of answer is that? Just say yeah bro, the body
- 25:05cannot live without the mind. Like OK, thanks.
- 25:07And then one of the most famous ones from the commercials, Neo.
- 25:12When Morpheus jumps the building, Neo looks at him.
- 25:14He goes, whoa, I'm done. There you go.
- 25:21Gaddy alright? Is this movie classic or
- 25:24cancelled? So I don't know if it's
- 25:27cancellable, but at least it should be noted.
- 25:30Maybe it's ironic, the movie that a movie where they discuss
- 25:35technology going too far. Yeah, they heavily used
- 25:39technology and CGI to get their point across.
- 25:41Yeah, oht. Like it's, it's hypocritical.
- 25:46Almost, yeah. It almost feels a little
- 25:48hypocritical cause it's like an anti capitalist, anti AI, anti
- 25:53anti establishment kind of movie.
- 25:54Sure. And then they're like let's use
- 25:57all this technology. I don't know.
- 25:59It feels. Yeah, but it's there.
- 26:03It's an art form, right? You're expressing yourself
- 26:06through the visuals of the movie.
- 26:08It is using these tools. I agree, but they're not.
- 26:12I get what you're saying. If they used AI to make a movie
- 26:14about AI, that's that's to me, that's hypocritical.
- 26:18That's like you, you make a documentary about child abuse or
- 26:22sorry, not child abuse, child labour.
- 26:24And then you use child labour. Child labour, all your camera
- 26:27people, everybody working for free was kids.
- 26:30Yeah, that's what it feels. Like.
- 26:32Other than that, it doesn't really seem to be problematic
- 26:34though, so I'll say it's a classic.
- 26:36There's not really a lot that I can cancel about this movie.
- 26:39Yeah, for me, this is a classic. Every actor in this is beloved.
- 26:45And when you think of the actors, most people refer to
- 26:48this movie for those actors, especially the leads.
- 26:51I'll give you an example. Hugo Weaving, who plays Agent
- 26:54Smith. This guy was in Lord of the
- 26:57Rings right after this and Lord of the.
- 26:59Rings he was now. But when people see him or they
- 27:03hear him talk, his voice is synonymous with Agent Smith.
- 27:07He was even in, he was Red Skull in Captain America and
- 27:12everybody. His voice is so like Agent Smith
- 27:16that everybody's. Like is he still red skull when
- 27:18they go to Vermeer to get the mindset or the soulstone?
- 27:22So he is that him? No.
- 27:24So the CGI that face Hugo Weaving had a falling out with
- 27:28Disney after that movie. He's like, I'll, I'll never
- 27:31fucking do another Marvel movie. He said.
- 27:33He's basically bashed comic book movies.
- 27:35So there's a there's an actor. He was actually in Walking Dead.
- 27:39He's really good at impersonations and he's the one
- 27:44who did the Hugo Weaving voice. And it's like bang on.
- 27:48Cause I was gonna say that yeah, that is a CGI face.
- 27:51So they could be. Really, really.
- 27:53Another actor impersonates Hugo Weaving really well, and he did
- 27:58it so. OK, I you almost blew my mind.
- 28:01I was like, Angel Smith is in warmer.
- 28:02Yeah, so when people see him see Hugo Weaving, they immediately
- 28:06see him and go Mr. Anderson. Yeah, it's it's very iconic the
- 28:12way he says Mr. Anderson. All right, we'll go to your new
- 28:14segment here. What's How's it going?
- 28:16Party like it's 2026. How would the movie be different
- 28:20if it came out today? So I think it's like you said
- 28:24earlier, it's more relevant today.
- 28:26Yeah, the AI that is in our everyday lives now is absolutely
- 28:31out of control and people are trying to control it.
- 28:36And in every sci-fi movie where you try to control AI.
- 28:38It's becoming a reality, the AI taking over.
- 28:41It becomes too intelligent. There was literally a case where
- 28:43they made an AI computer to solve really intense math
- 28:48equations and they wrote coding and they were like, OK, solve
- 28:52the math equations for two hours and then power yourself off.
- 28:56And the fucking a I turned off like change the coding so that
- 29:00it would not have to power off after two hours.
- 29:02It directly disobeyed them. It became self aware.
- 29:06In a way, yeah, that's fucked. And that's just a small
- 29:09instance. There's all kinds of cases where
- 29:11AI AIS talk to each other in a different language to be to be
- 29:17more. Secretive.
- 29:20Technically to be more efficient because they can talk to each
- 29:22other more quickly. Yeah, that's not good.
- 29:25They're conspiring. So sci-fi movies have been
- 29:29warning us for years. Terminator 2001, A Space
- 29:33Odyssey. The Matrix AI is going to take
- 29:36over and kill us all. And I was going to take over and
- 29:39kill us. It's already destroying the
- 29:42environment, human jobs, it's causing an overdependence on
- 29:45technology and we already have like a reduced human interaction
- 29:50due to living our lives online so much.
- 29:53This movie was showing just like the beginnings of that, but now
- 29:56it's it's a problem. There are people that live their
- 29:58entire lives online. Oh yeah, yeah, social media
- 30:02broke the. World, yeah, like at this time,
- 30:04Neo I think was a little bit unique and that he spent so much
- 30:06time online, I don't think. It sleeps as computer, it's a
- 30:09regular thing. No, it wouldn't be.
- 30:11Hard passing out with the Roblox in their lap.
- 30:13With the tablet it wouldn't be hard to find.
- 30:16So for me, I thought I could only think of two things.
- 30:19AI. And then if this was made in
- 30:212026, would they have pay phones?
- 30:24Probably not. Well, there there would be a
- 30:26different way. Well, that there was.
- 30:28Back. This movie came out and he says
- 30:31you think it's 1999, it's actually 2199.
- 30:34So the Matrix program is set in 1999.
- 30:39Well, he said that they tried to make it a utopia where people
- 30:42didn't have to work or do anything and the human mind
- 30:44wouldn't accept it because the human mind basically needs
- 30:47problems to solve and needs tasks.
- 30:49To complete, yeah, but yeah. So if they did make it in 2026,
- 30:54would they set it in 2020? 6 In that case, they wouldn't
- 30:57have payphones, so they'd have to come up with something else.
- 31:00But then it would be like, oh, is it, you know, 100 years in
- 31:04the future, like when they're in the real world.
- 31:06Who knows? Well, they said at the time that
- 31:081991 was like the peak. Well, they say it was like the
- 31:11peak of human existence or something which.
- 31:13Is ridiculous to think about now the new Millennium, right?
- 31:18So can you watch this with your parents?
- 31:21Yeah, it's not very sexual. It's pretty violent though, so
- 31:26if that makes you uncomfortable you might want to skip it, but
- 31:28other than that it's fine. So yes, you can watch this with
- 31:32your parents, which I have, but they won't get it.
- 31:37That's an automatic. I'm sorry but.
- 31:39Boomers don't understand this. They'll just be like, why is he
- 31:43flying? I don't understand.
- 31:45Put the game on, Put the news on.
- 31:47So you have to be generic for younger to get it.
- 31:50The fight, yeah, because you have to understand computers a
- 31:52little bit. The fight scenes are amazing.
- 31:55Like, doesn't matter what language you speak, those fight
- 31:58scenes, the gun fight scenes, Oh my God, just awe inspiring
- 32:01scenes. But yeah, you can watch with
- 32:05your parents. There is no sexuality like
- 32:07majorly in this movie, but some scenes could be seen as like.
- 32:12I'll go into that later, don't worry about.
- 32:14It OK, I'm confused. OK, favorite, least favorite
- 32:19supporting character? OK, so my favorite is Tank.
- 32:23OK, yeah, I think he's awesome. He feels like I know he's
- 32:28actually Dozers Dozer. Is that the guy's?
- 32:30Name his brother. Yeah, yeah, he's actually
- 32:32Dozer's little brother, but he feels like a little brother to
- 32:34everybody on the ship. Like he's he's young, he's
- 32:36playful, he saves the day and kills Cypher at the end of the
- 32:41movie. Not to mention he's very cute.
- 32:44He has nice muscles and he's very cute when he winks at Neil.
- 32:48Yeah, he's very charming, he is. I've got Tank as well.
- 32:52No. Way it was a close race between
- 32:54him and Mouse but I like tank cause mouse has.
- 32:57Some fun too. My mouse is good and he actually
- 33:00goes out like a G. He fucking whips out those mini
- 33:03guns. Yeah, and he just starts.
- 33:05Scrolling on the SWAT teams, yeah, he goes out like a G, But
- 33:09I've got Tank here. He has a look of optimism and he
- 33:12seems genuine. He tells Neo, I'm excited to see
- 33:16what you're capable of. But if you are and he does this
- 33:19like, he clenches his fists and he's like, really happy.
- 33:23Holding back his excitement, he says it's a very exciting time
- 33:27because he, you know, he really believes that Morpheus is right,
- 33:30that Neo is the one. However, there is some
- 33:35controversy with this character. Um, so when they were starting
- 33:40to cast the second film, they wanted him back to be the ship
- 33:44operator, of course, for more viruses, Nebuchadnezzar.
- 33:48And he wanted more money. He wanted $1,000,000 instead of
- 33:52the 400,000 the studio was offering him because he felt
- 33:55like he was a bigger, bigger part of the movie.
- 33:58And I think he was a pretty integral part.
- 34:01He was in most of the third act. Yeah, that's not really
- 34:03controversial though. I'm getting to that.
- 34:07OK. So apparently the dispute was
- 34:10very severe, with reports suggesting that the actor who
- 34:14played Tank made harassing phone calls to the studio, which led
- 34:19to further issues between him and the studio.
- 34:22And I'm just imagining these phone calls.
- 34:24Like, he seems like a pretty chill guy.
- 34:27So how like did he just, you know.
- 34:29He was playing and we know we have no idea what he was like in
- 34:32real life. He's like, hey, it's a very
- 34:37exciting time. I think you should pay me some
- 34:40more money. Do it.
- 34:43Do it. Well, they could have negotiated
- 34:45with him. Well, they didn't.
- 34:47They just cut ties and they killed them off and then they
- 34:51cast the guy who played Michael and lost in the second movie.
- 34:55OHK OK. And he played Link and they
- 34:57mentioned Tank and they basically mentioned that he's
- 35:00he's dead. OHL Savage, yeah, he survived.
- 35:03Cypher just significant killed. Yeah, exactly.
- 35:07So least favorite character go for.
- 35:10It Cypher, obviously. Really.
- 35:13Yeah, obviously he sucks. Yeah, I have a bias against.
- 35:16That act as a Ralphie because. Surprise because he played
- 35:19Ralphie in Sopranos, so now when I see his face I just think of
- 35:23that hooker that he killed. Joey Pantoliano, she.
- 35:26Was a stripper, but he killed that stripper and I can't like
- 35:31him in a movie or show now because he's so heartless.
- 35:33He was so mean and he said there's I'm not going to repeat
- 35:37it because it's awful, but he says a horrible line to her
- 35:40right before he kills her. Like fuck you.
- 35:43Ralph feel hot take Cipher wanted to be an actor.
- 35:47He wanted out of the real world going to the Matrix.
- 35:50Yo, maybe Joey Pantoliano is OHP the actor.
- 35:54My God, that he wanted to be. Yeah, so I don't like him.
- 35:59He's also willing to let humanity.
- 36:01He's mind blown. He's willing to let humanity die
- 36:04even though he knows everyone is gonna end up in pods and he
- 36:06wants to go back and be in a pod that's fucked.
- 36:09He wants to not remember it. But wants to eat the steak guy.
- 36:13OK, I have a question about that.
- 36:14This is gonna be in shower. Thoughts.
- 36:16Yeah, if you can go into any simulation.
- 36:20Yeah. Don't they just have simulations
- 36:23you like with the Kung Fu one? Like can't you just go into a
- 36:25simulation where you can eat a steak, get a massage, have a spa
- 36:28day? Yeah, probably.
- 36:30So why doesn't he just do that and you have a break?
- 36:33You can go into the matrix and eat.
- 36:35Every so often, you know, some people, they're like some people
- 36:38can't eat a salad without meat in it, you know what I mean?
- 36:41They just can't do it. They can't drink a diet beverage
- 36:44or a low calorie snack or have a low calorie snack.
- 36:48So some people just can't do with a simulation.
- 36:51They need the real thing, you know what I'm saying?
- 36:53But he's asking to be put back into the simulation.
- 36:56Yeah, but he won't know any better.
- 36:58That's the whole point anyways. My least favorite character is
- 37:02Neil's boss at the software company I fucking hate.
- 37:06This 2.2. Yeah, I fucking hate him.
- 37:09He also he's purposely cast to mimic Agent Smith, the way he
- 37:14talks And our company, if an employee has a problem, the
- 37:18company has a problem. This company is one of the top
- 37:20software companies in the world because every single employee
- 37:23understands that they are part of a whole.
- 37:25Thus, if an employee has a problem, the company has a
- 37:29problem. The time has come to make a
- 37:33choice, Mr. Anderson. Either you choose to be at your
- 37:38desk on time from this day forth, or you choose to find
- 37:42yourself another job. Do I make myself clear?
- 37:46Yes, Mr. Reinhardt. Perfect.
- 37:47Like he's such a douche. And then he's like, do I make
- 37:51myself clear? Mr. Anderson Yes.
- 37:53Mr. Reinhard, you make yourself very clear.
- 37:55And he leaves. He's in it for 2.2 seconds.
- 37:58But he left them in, you know, strong enough impact that makes
- 38:03me want to dislike the guy's cultural impact.
- 38:06So there's there was a lot of cultural impact from this movie.
- 38:10The fashion in the movie is very recognizable.
- 38:13The long leather trench coat and sleek black clothing became a
- 38:16staple of 90s fashion following this.
- 38:18Movie, you know, movie came out after this X-Men the original
- 38:21and notice all their clothes were tight black.
- 38:24Loads of leather. Yeah, yeah, they didn't do the
- 38:26comic book blue and yellow. Like in real life too, there was
- 38:30a lot of people wearing like I feel like the goth, the Goths
- 38:34really got extra boost. Off.
- 38:37Yeah, they did. They're like, yo, they see us.
- 38:40Respect. It redefines sci-fi and action
- 38:44by introducing a very unique story that required unique
- 38:47practical effects that we don't we we didn't see anywhere else
- 38:50before this movie. Yeah, this movie was.
- 38:54There was bullet time and certain things, but not to this
- 38:57level and to this detail. Like there wasn't.
- 39:01It's still unique because of the fighting, the ability to move
- 39:06super fast. Imitators everywhere, even 20
- 39:10years later, but it doesn't hit the same.
- 39:12It doesn't. It's very, very unique.
- 39:15The floating air kick done by Trinity at the very beginning of
- 39:18the movie has been copied across pop culture like crazy from
- 39:23Scary. Movies, Scorpion, kick they call
- 39:25it. Yeah, from From Scary Movie to
- 39:28Charlie's Angels. There's even a scene in Shrek
- 39:30where. Princess Fiona does Princess
- 39:32Fiona does the double kick both sides?
- 39:34Yeah, yeah. So it's it was, it exploded
- 39:37across pop culture, very, very recognized.
- 39:39Agreed. It's solidified concepts like
- 39:43red pill versus blue pill. Yep, glitch in the matrix.
- 39:46Being red pilled became a term. It did, yeah.
- 39:49A glitch in the Matrix and acknowledging that we live in a
- 39:53simulation conspiracy theory, which has completely exploded
- 39:58because it's it's it's you can't prove it obviously, but it's,
- 40:01it's fun to kind of freak yourself out thinking about it.
- 40:04And we've even used terms like NPC's.
- 40:07Yep, non playable characters. And that is from that conspiracy
- 40:11theory that originates from this movie.
- 40:14Yes. So it's it's, it's leaked into
- 40:17everybody's day-to-day life to some extent.
- 40:20Also something very unique about this movie.
- 40:22It was groundbreaking at the time to have a black actor play
- 40:27a lead role in science fiction. At the time, science fiction was
- 40:30heavily white. Luckily, things have changed.
- 40:33Like there's a lot of black actors and, you know, like Alien
- 40:36Covenant has several black. It's funny you say that, people
- 40:39of other races. There's a sci-fi horror movie
- 40:42that came out before this and it's a cult classic now.
- 40:46And there was a there. There was a ship and the captain
- 40:49of the ship was black. Do you know a movie I'm talking
- 40:52about? No event horizon and the guy who
- 40:56plays the captain is Laurence Fishburne.
- 40:59Shit. Yeah.
- 41:01Crazy. Yeah.
- 41:01It, yeah. It, it, it was groundbreaking at
- 41:04the time. It's not that I had never been
- 41:05done at that time, but it was rare.
- 41:07And then now it's not like sci-fi is more inclusive,
- 41:12luckily, because at the time, having black characters and it
- 41:15was not very common. And then the last thing I have
- 41:18in cultural impact is the movie has been viewed as foreshadowing
- 41:22a world becoming consumed with technology, which unfortunately
- 41:26has become the truth. There are children that are
- 41:29addicted to tablets, watching tablets while eating, watching
- 41:33tablets at restaurants, and adults burying themselves.
- 41:36Yeah, they're all plugged in. In phones and tablets rather
- 41:39than having conversations with family members or strangers.
- 41:43So unfortunately it is becoming a reality and I I hate that.
- 41:47Yeah, it's it's a slippery slope.
- 41:50With technology you can even adults myself, like you catch
- 41:53yourself just doom scrolling like the term came out because
- 41:56you just you checked out. It's like you're plugged into a
- 41:59digital system and you cannot unlatch you.
- 42:03Know I try to make a conscious effort to close my phone when
- 42:05I'm around you and the kids cause I don't wanna like miss
- 42:07out on my life yeah by being on my phone all the time.
- 42:11You're not missing much. Just kidding.
- 42:14OK, so cultural impact. I got a lot of the same being
- 42:18red pilled bullet time. The fight scenes were all this
- 42:22wire work. You know, movies did it after
- 42:26that, but they it just was never as good.
- 42:29Yeah, but you told me a lot of the actors, they all did
- 42:32training. Yeah, they did five months of
- 42:34martial arts training for this. Movie that's so.
- 42:36Five months, yeah, with. I feel like they don't do that
- 42:39for movies anymore. Charlie's Angels also did
- 42:42extensive like martial arts training and survival training,
- 42:46so they feel like they don't do that to.
- 42:47Actors, they, they, they had the carte blanche with this because
- 42:52to get with Warner Brothers they wrote 3 movies for them.
- 42:54It was a three movie package they sold.
- 42:57The first movie was one of my faves actually.
- 42:59It's called Assassins with Stallone and Antonio Banderas.
- 43:03They wrote that and it's really good.
- 43:05And then they wrote a second movie, I can't remember the
- 43:08name, but it's Low Key Fire. And then basically the studio
- 43:13made a lot of money off Assassins.
- 43:16The second movie was, you know, a critical, critically
- 43:18acclaimed. And then The Matrix, they
- 43:20basically had carte blanche. So they're like, we're doing
- 43:23this this way. And they just let him have it.
- 43:25They they built their name enough that they're like, OK,
- 43:30Wichowski's here you go, here's the money.
- 43:32Make your movie. Well, like I was saying, it's
- 43:34it's so nice when a vision actually is able to come to
- 43:37fruition like that. The video games, this movie
- 43:40inspired Max Payne bullet time like crazy.
- 43:43You just floating in the air shooting people dead to rights.
- 43:47The whole video games in slow motion.
- 43:50It's because the Matrix made it the new standard and made it
- 43:53popular. So some movies, you know, they
- 43:55had slow motion with gunfire before this, but this one did it
- 43:59differently with the camera work.
- 44:00Like a good example is Blade came out the year before and it
- 44:04had a couple of scenes where characters were moving faster
- 44:07than the CGI bullets but it the camera work was not even close
- 44:12to what this was. Blade is kind of similar to
- 44:14this, it has a similar vibe. I mean Blade is based off the
- 44:17comics. And his outfit.
- 44:19Yeah, he's wearing a leather outfit, but it's different.
- 44:22He's got a sword. He's a vampire, so a lot of
- 44:26movies spoofed this. You mentioned Shrek, you
- 44:27mentioned Scary Movie. I got Kung Pao here, which was a
- 44:32parody of all Kung Fu movies from the 70s.
- 44:35Equilibrium with Christian Bale came out after this.
- 44:39Lot of nods to The Matrix and that Spiderman, the 2001 with
- 44:44Toby McGuire. A lot of slow motion scenes like
- 44:47the razor fight and the burning building.
- 44:49Oh yeah, remember he throws. The He jumps in the razors.
- 44:52Guy he does his acrobatic jump and they fly around him.
- 44:55Spiderman so like. Yeah, Daredevil with Ben Affleck
- 45:00had some bullet time in it. And had a lot of leather too
- 45:02with Electra. You caught, you mentioned
- 45:04Charlie's Angels, but in my opinion, and I have to get on my
- 45:08soapbox for this, I've been waiting to say this for years
- 45:12and I am now going to say it. The blatant God damn RIP off of
- 45:17the Matrix. With no shame.
- 45:20By the way, is the movie wanted with James McAvoy, Angelina
- 45:26Jolie, and Morgan Freeman? I fucking hate that movie and
- 45:30anybody that says it's not a RIP off of the Matrix is wrong.
- 45:35I'm sorry. OK?
- 45:36This movie came out in 99. The Matrix Wanted came out in
- 45:412008. Let me just tell you the
- 45:44similarities. Neo is a white guy.
- 45:48James McAvoy is a white guy. They both work in a cubicle on
- 45:53computers. They don't like their jobs.
- 45:57They're approached by a white woman who wants them to join
- 46:02their group. Angelina, Carrie Anne Moss.
- 46:07They both just happen to be really sexy white women.
- 46:09Yeah, they bring them in. They train him.
- 46:14They train Matt James McAvoy to learn new skills that defy
- 46:19physics, like making a bullet curve when they shoot it.
- 46:23Instead of curving around the bullet, you make the bullet
- 46:27curve around people. Well, that's original.
- 46:30And then who's their leader? A black guy?
- 46:34You got Laurence Fishburne in The Matrix.
- 46:36You got Morgan Freeman and Wanted and there's training
- 46:41montages. They do all kinds of acrobatic
- 46:45shit that you cannot do normally.
- 46:49So the only difference is they say James Mcavoy's dad was part
- 46:54of this assassin group and that's basically it.
- 46:58But he's a special guy and he has special skills and they want
- 47:02to utilize them. Morgan Freeman betrays James
- 47:06McAvoy in the. Movie he had to use James McAvoy
- 47:08to kill his dad because he's the only one that the dad wouldn't.
- 47:12Kill, but still he he's he gets betrayed by Morgan Freeman.
- 47:16So there's, you know, there's some differences, but they
- 47:20basically ripped it off. They didn't even like, change
- 47:23the race or the genders or anything of the characters.
- 47:27It's very much in tune. I was.
- 47:29You make some good points, but want to does have its merits
- 47:32like there are some unique. Things couldn't get it out.
- 47:34I, I, I was halfway through and I'm like, this is a, this is a
- 47:37Matrix ripoff. I the rest of the movie was
- 47:40ruined for me. I walked out of the theatre and
- 47:42I kept telling my friends, I'm like, this is a RIP off of the
- 47:45Matrix. And they're like, what are you
- 47:46talking about? I'm like are you dumb?
- 47:48Are you dumb? You are so dumb for real.
- 47:52They rapping out here, They copying movies.
- 47:55Alright. Hide your kids, hide your wife,
- 47:56hide your movie. Alright, get off your soapbox.
- 47:59No, it's a copy alright soundtrack.
- 48:04So for soundtrack, you know the soundtrack better than I do for
- 48:08this movie. Yeah.
- 48:10I think it's spooky and a little futuristic.
- 48:13It gives the movie a vibe of newness and discovery as
- 48:16Morpheus introduces Neo to his new reality.
- 48:21So I think it's it's it's very 90s.
- 48:24It's it's interesting, but I didn't really like, I didn't
- 48:27really notice anything else about it.
- 48:29This fucking soundtrack slaps harder than Will Smith.
- 48:32Who was actually supposed to be cast as Neo?
- 48:35We'll talk about that later. Oh, really?
- 48:37Yeah, but this move, this soundtrack, you play this on
- 48:41your headphone loud as fuck when you're doing some, you know,
- 48:45tasks at work and you want to feel like you're going really
- 48:48fast, like a hacker. You play this shit loud and you
- 48:52feel. Like you do at work.
- 48:54Sometimes you're trying to get stuff done.
- 48:56You you take the pound back of that coffee and you sip and you
- 48:59just go and you listen to Club to Death.
- 49:02You listen to Prime your Soup Dragula by Rob Zombie.
- 49:07Yo this fucking soundtrack is awesome and it has aged well.
- 49:12Just saying. It's right at that cusp of like
- 49:15new Millennium sound and that like techno electronic.
- 49:21Yeah, that's why I said it felt futuristic, but also has like a
- 49:24little bit of a spooky vibe to it.
- 49:26Sometimes, yeah. First some scenes, yeah.
- 49:28But yeah, wicked soundtrack and who gets to spin off.
- 49:32You're probably going to say the same thing as me trying to be.
- 49:36I got something that's gonna blow your mind.
- 49:38She's such a badass. She's already an incredible
- 49:41fighter when the movie starts. Yeah.
- 49:43So we could have a similar movie about her as we had for Neo
- 49:47where she enters the Matrix. OK, so like a Trinity prequel?
- 49:50Yeah, Trinity people where she learns to fight, she meets the
- 49:52Oracle. They would obviously have to be
- 49:54like another issue that they're fight, like going through to
- 49:58make it interesting. Of course, it's not an exact
- 50:00replica, but it could end with her mission to go stock Neo
- 50:05because they basically say yeah, like she's the one who brings
- 50:08him in. So that that's how it could end.
- 50:10That's a good one. I didn't think of Carrie Anne
- 50:14Moss. For yeah, cause she's a, she's a
- 50:16freaking badass. So like, what do you need all
- 50:17these cops for one little girl and they go up there and they
- 50:20get absolutely dummied. I sent 2 units.
- 50:22They're bringing her down now, Lieutenant.
- 50:25Your men are already dead, and she fucking breaks that guy's
- 50:29arm the first thing she does remember.
- 50:31She, yeah, she's not, she's not to be fucked.
- 50:34With and then she does the scorpion jump and kick.
- 50:37Oh so good. I love any movie where there's a
- 50:39strong, powerful female in the movie I love.
- 50:42That I'm going to talk about that later because Hollywood's
- 50:45like, oh, there's never any strong, powerful female actors.
- 50:48Why do I sound? Why am I doing a Donald Trump?
- 50:52China. China.
- 50:55All all the strong female actresses are in China.
- 50:59No, she's fucking amazing in this movie.
- 51:02And that patent leather outfit she's wearing?
- 51:05Just cause I usually don't like short hair on a woman but she
- 51:08makes it work in. This so my spinoff.
- 51:12It's a Morpheus prequel starring Michael B Jordan and we learn
- 51:17about Morpheus and him coming into the Matrix and the Oracle
- 51:22telling him that he would find the One, which I think would be
- 51:25wicked and Michael B Jordan. Come on, shave his head.
- 51:29Give him those glasses that stick to his nose.
- 51:31Thing like Morpheus. You think it would have to be a
- 51:33no name? They'd probably have to be a no
- 51:35name. Yeah, I'm trying to think.
- 51:36Of like with more with the Morpheus's teeth, like with a
- 51:39gap tooth or something like has to Halas had look like him.
- 51:42Yeah, I guess you could make you do a fake gap tooth, but still,
- 51:46I don't think Michael Jordan looks like him at all anywhere.
- 51:50That's my prequel. I I would love to see that
- 51:53Hollywood make it happen. Yeah, that'd be cool.
- 51:56Double feature. So I know this movie has
- 51:59sequels, but I have not seen them.
- 52:01You tried to show me #2 And I fell asleep.
- 52:03Yeah, I saw some of it. So good it's underrated.
- 52:07People hate on it too. Much but I actually thought that
- 52:09Tenant would go well with this movie because they're both
- 52:14reality bending but in very different ways.
- 52:17And in in both movies, the rules of the real life no longer exist
- 52:21and you have to you have to adapt to the new truth, like how
- 52:24bullets go backwards and stuff and tell it like you have and
- 52:28the ways that you can get. Damaged even similar in the
- 52:30chase scenes. Yeah, and the the characters are
- 52:34there like they're not similar to the Matrix characters, but
- 52:37they have like these unique journeys they're going on
- 52:39similarly. So I just I thought it would be.
- 52:41A cool thing call to back-to-back it.
- 52:43That's a clutch 1, you got me. And we need to.
- 52:45And I wanna watch tennis. Again, you got me good.
- 52:48I rode The Matrix Reloaded because it was the easiest
- 52:50answer honestly because they go really well.
- 52:53Together I figured you would, but.
- 52:55Now that you mentioned tenant, I'm thinking 10.
- 52:58It's a good one. Inception would be a good one
- 53:01too because Inception did the same reality bending kind of
- 53:06stuff that set the bar for movies of the future as well.
- 53:10Yeah, because you're in a dream. So similarly you can define or.
- 53:13Sorry, not define matrix defy physics.
- 53:16Yeah, exactly. Yeah, so good call on that.
- 53:19Leave a penny, Take a penny. What scene you taken out?
- 53:22Take out the scene where Agent Smith talks about wanting to
- 53:25escape. He's he's an AI.
- 53:28Why he's an AI? Why does he have emotions?
- 53:31Why does he feel trapped? He's a he is going rogue.
- 53:33He's a rogue program. They go into it in the second
- 53:36movie. OK, well this is not the second
- 53:39movie, this is the first movie and it makes no sense that an AI
- 53:41feels trapped, feels hatred towards humans or has any
- 53:45feelings whatsoever. No, but he says he wants out.
- 53:49It's a rogue. Program.
- 53:50He's an AI. Alright.
- 53:51Alright, I don't want they don't have feelings so and I felt like
- 53:55it was it was unnecessary. Agent Smith doesn't need to have
- 53:59a motive to want to stop Morpheus and destroy.
- 54:01Zion good. He is in his programming.
- 54:03It's actually more terrifying if he has no.
- 54:06Motive. But you're taking out the whole
- 54:08plot of a character. That scene is great.
- 54:11Why would you take that whole scene out?
- 54:12Take. Because I think Agent Smith is
- 54:14actually more terrifying if he has no motive, if he's just a
- 54:17machine that will not stop like in Terminator with the T with
- 54:22not with the T1000 with the. T1000.
- 54:25Oh, yeah, yeah. With the T1000, he just wants to
- 54:28destroy you. He doesn't care.
- 54:30Yeah, he has no one. He doesn't hate you or like you.
- 54:32He just wants to destroy you. That is a scary villain.
- 54:35Can't stand it any longer. It's the smell.
- 54:41There is such a thing. I feel saturated by it.
- 54:47I can taste your stink, and every time I do, I fear that I
- 54:54have somehow been infected by it as repulsive.
- 54:57I don't think Agent Smith is a scary after.
- 54:59He's like, I just want to get out of here.
- 55:01I hate it here. Like a freaking kid in high.
- 55:03School scary because I think he's terrifying because the
- 55:06other agents look at him like he's scary.
- 55:09You know, he's like, leave me with him alone.
- 55:13I think him not having that motive could have actually been
- 55:15scarier. I disagree and what I want more
- 55:19of is I want more epic scenes like when he dodges the bullets
- 55:23on the roof bullet time. We didn't get enough of that.
- 55:26We get 1 scene. Well, let's get some more of
- 55:29that later. I did a little research and that
- 55:31whole LED, that one sequence cost $750,000 to make because it
- 55:37was so new. They had to develop the cameras,
- 55:40the way the filming was done, the special effects, everything
- 55:43was new. OK, because I wanted more of it
- 55:46after it happened and we like he has another a couple other epic
- 55:50fights, but he. Doesn't do that again.
- 55:51There's only three bullet time sequences like that where the
- 55:55camera goes 360. It's the One or Neo dodges the
- 55:59bullets that beginning with Trinity and then One at the end
- 56:02when Morpheus, not Morpheus, Neo fights Agent Smith and they run
- 56:07at each other and shoot, and they're holding on to each
- 56:10other's wrists because they're trying to shoot their guns.
- 56:12Yeah, I agree. I mean, for me, I thought the
- 56:15Sentinel scene was really boring.
- 56:17When they're in the training and he gets a call, Morpheus gets a
- 56:22call and they're like we got a problem and there's a Sentinel
- 56:26in the area so they have to power down and charge their EMP.
- 56:30I know they're setting up what happens later in the movie, but
- 56:33it was really long and kind of like you could have said that
- 56:37their Sentinels and there could have been something quicker, but
- 56:39it just seemed like it took a little long.
- 56:42I didn't really like it. If I had to cut something out,
- 56:44it would be that. And then what I would put in
- 56:47honestly was the same thing. I would put in some some more
- 56:50fighting, some kick ass scenes. You know, I want to see APAC
- 56:54kick some mass cipher switch. These people we only see Trinity
- 56:59and Morpheus. We should get to know the other
- 57:01characters well. That's why it was so low stakes.
- 57:02When they die, it's like, OK, that those two characters.
- 57:05We didn't see them shoot their guns and stuff, but I wanted to
- 57:08see them kick ass like Trinity. We see her fuck shit up a lot
- 57:10even with Neo. When yeah, they roll up that
- 57:13they roll up all in their cool outfits.
- 57:15They should have a group fight scene where they all fought.
- 57:17That would have been cool. I think it would be cool but
- 57:20salovey yeah, lazy Sunday vibes. I I said yes, rainy.
- 57:25Yes, for every. No, no, no rainy Sunday vibes.
- 57:29So the sequence where it's raining and they're trying to
- 57:32get Neo to, you know, unplug and take the pill.
- 57:35And there's a lot of scenes in the rain at the beginning of the
- 57:37movie. And it just gives you that vibe.
- 57:39And, you know, even if you don't watch the movie, you just go on
- 57:43YouTube and pull up like the main fight sequences, the
- 57:47gunfights, It's just such a awesome thing.
- 57:50And, you know, you turn up the sound and you hear through the
- 57:54wickedness of this movie. I'm very particular about my
- 57:57lazy Sunday movies. Very few movies make the cut for
- 58:00me. This one does not make the cut.
- 58:02It's too. Dark and.
- 58:04It's too dark and gloomy for a lazy Sunday.
- 58:06I want to watch something that has, you know, more joy, more
- 58:09sunshine. Yeah, I don't want this.
- 58:12Is this this makes you spiral? I don't want to spiral on a lazy
- 58:15Sunday. Would it make you spiral?
- 58:16Because of all the AI and the future being trash.
- 58:20Fair enough. I wanna watch something, first
- 58:22of all, more familiar and something that's not quite.
- 58:25As the way I look at daunting, by the time this shit goes down
- 58:28we'll all be dead, so who cares? OK, well, remains to be seen.
- 58:33OK, movie Alias, what do you got?
- 58:37So I thought you could just call it Neo.
- 58:39Ohhhhh. I thought that would be cool
- 58:41because it would be very similar.
- 58:42Yeah. Or to play off Doctor Seuss.
- 58:46Red pill. Blue pill.
- 58:48Ohe. Shit.
- 58:49Red fish. Blue Fish.
- 58:50Good. Yeah.
- 58:50And you put both just in case. And the movie poster could just
- 58:54be a picture of a red pill and blue pill, and then that's all
- 58:56you get. And then you go into this movie.
- 58:58Would that be so sick? Yeah, I feel like people would
- 59:02be like, well, I thought it was about medication the the
- 59:04Pharmaceutical industry. No no bro, it's it's about them.
- 59:07Well, no, that's the thing. If you have no idea what that.
- 59:10Could mean I got the one unplugged and only human.
- 59:18That's all I got. I like unplugged.
- 59:20Yeah, cause I was thinking of OHP.
- 59:22No, it's too people like make fun of it and call it butt plug
- 59:26or something. Maybe.
- 59:29I think the matrix was the. Correct, the matrix was right, I
- 59:31just didn't want to call it anything that gives away what it
- 59:34is like. If you called it the System,
- 59:36people would know what's going on.
- 59:38But The Matrix was such a you know, it's the right word for it
- 59:43to hide what the movie is about. You know, if you called it the
- 59:47System, be like, Oh yeah, it's a computer system and yada yada
- 59:50yada. Yeah, very true.
- 59:52Shower thoughts? So I have a little bit of a
- 59:57tangent I wanna go on about the white rabbit tattoo.
- 1:00:02Ohhh, OK. Because when I saw it, I was
- 1:00:05like, that's gotta have a deeper meaning.
- 1:00:08OK. So of course, I looked it up.
- 1:00:09Yeah. In the Matrix, the white rabbit
- 1:00:11tattoo symbolizes the call to curiosity, truth and liberation
- 1:00:17from the simulated reality, acting as a direct guide for Neo
- 1:00:21to leave the false world behind. White rabbits also symbolize
- 1:00:26like spring and new beginnings, which is why the Easter Bunny is
- 1:00:29a white rabbit and it's also a call to action in Alice in
- 1:00:34Wonderland because. She.
- 1:00:36Follows the White rabbit down the on the whole through down
- 1:00:40the rabbit hole, and then Morpheus later references out.
- 1:00:44Yeah, he does. And.
- 1:00:45So it's not just they didn't just pick a random tattoo for
- 1:00:49that girl to have. It was very specific and very
- 1:00:52orchestrated because they wanted to have that deep symbol and
- 1:00:57meaning behind it. So I thought that was pretty
- 1:01:00cool. There's a lot of little hints at
- 1:01:03deeper meaning in this movie. So like Easter eggs, excuse the
- 1:01:07pun. Trinity is basically a stalker
- 1:01:10but we all forgive her cause she's hot.
- 1:01:12She's a stalker. She's she's her boss.
- 1:01:14Tells her to stalk. I know, but like, imagine if it
- 1:01:16was if Neil was a girl and a guy was doing that.
- 1:01:19No, if if your police captain tells your undercover to follow
- 1:01:23somebody, that doesn't make them a stalker that they're doing
- 1:01:27their job. I mean, they're not police, but
- 1:01:30they're being told whatever she's surveying, she's.
- 1:01:34Surveying, it's fine. He he accepts it.
- 1:01:36OK. Where do we get Neil from?
- 1:01:40I know he uses that name online. What is it from?
- 1:01:43What do you mean? What does Neo mean?
- 1:01:45It's an anagram for one. He's the one.
- 1:01:50Your jaw just hit the friggin floor.
- 1:01:53Ohhh. 2 + 2 is 4/2 plus 2 is 4. I didn't know.
- 1:02:01It was is. Four are we supposed to just
- 1:02:03know? That I mean, I think you know
- 1:02:05that because. You're a nerd for this.
- 1:02:06Movie I'm gonna go off here, I'm gonna tell you about all the
- 1:02:10symbolism that I noticed, and I'll let you get on your soapbox
- 1:02:14after. OK, Bucks Oht You said you had
- 1:02:18some grapes. Yeah, we've addressed most of
- 1:02:20them. The main ones were my cringy
- 1:02:22moments where the acting was stiff and there's no chemistry
- 1:02:25between Neo and. Trinity OK, OK, so this movie
- 1:02:28has a bunch of Easter eggs, as you said, symbolism, and there's
- 1:02:33tons of little hints. So in the beginning of the
- 1:02:37movie, when Neo is asleep at his computer, he wakes up, right?
- 1:02:41The computer says follow the white rabbit.
- 1:02:44Knock, knock. Neo.
- 1:02:45The door knocks. He goes to the door and that
- 1:02:47guy's there and he's picking up some disc with some obvious
- 1:02:51illegal stuff on it. So he goes, shuts the door, he
- 1:02:55goes to this book and the book is called Simulation, the
- 1:02:58Simulacra. And the book is basically about
- 1:03:01being in a simulation and what's real and what's not.
- 1:03:05And when he opens the book, the pages on nihilism and the book
- 1:03:09is cut out as well. So this is hollow book inside.
- 1:03:13So it's a symbolism for the world.
- 1:03:16It's hollow inside. It's just a fake.
- 1:03:17It's simulation, right? So that's one thing the guy who
- 1:03:21buys the disc from him says. You know, you're my own personal
- 1:03:25Hallelujah. He's like, you're my personal
- 1:03:27Jesus Christ. Like it's very like on the nose.
- 1:03:30Ohe it's a this movie is a very obvious.
- 1:03:32A bunch of times. Christ, yeah, like Cypher says,
- 1:03:35Jesus, you know, when he gets scared, You scared the bejesus
- 1:03:39out of me. And then?
- 1:03:40Also, the second movie is called Resurrection.
- 1:03:43No, the 4th movie is called Resurrection.
- 1:03:45Ohf. The second one called Reloaded.
- 1:03:47We don't talk about the fourth movie in this house.
- 1:03:50It never happened. OK, don't talk about.
- 1:03:52Well, Jesus was resurrected so. That was my point.
- 1:03:55That was really all I knows. So Neil's room door to his
- 1:03:58apartment is 1011. Ones and zeros are binary code
- 1:04:02which make up computer code. OK.
- 1:04:05Every scene in the Matrix is a greenish hue, so you can tell
- 1:04:09that you're in the Matrix. Everything in the real world is
- 1:04:13Gray and blue, so you know you're in the real world.
- 1:04:15The scene where Neo is arrested. The security screens that are
- 1:04:19watching him are the same screens in the second movie when
- 1:04:24Neo meets the Architect. So this shows that the Architect
- 1:04:27is keeping an eye on Neo, but they don't like they don't show
- 1:04:31the Architect, they don't even mention him in the first movie,
- 1:04:34but it was obviously part of the plan.
- 1:04:36Cypher betrays Neo and his group similar to Judas betraying Jesus
- 1:04:41and his disciples. OK.
- 1:04:44The guy. But what are his thirty pieces
- 1:04:45of silver? Becoming a movie.
- 1:04:47Star OK. His name is Thomas Anderson.
- 1:04:52Anderson means Son of Man, so Thomas Anderson, which is Neil's
- 1:04:56other name in Latin. Cipher means zero and Neo is 1.
- 1:05:01It's Latin, so ones and zeros. When Neil gets in the car to
- 1:05:07meet Trinity and they take the bug out of his stomach.
- 1:05:10When you look at the back windshield of the car, the rain
- 1:05:13falling on the window resembles the Matrix code.
- 1:05:16Switch points a gun at him in the car and it says you know,
- 1:05:22it's protection and he says for what?
- 1:05:24And Trinity says from you. The reason they say that is
- 1:05:27because he's still plugged into the Matrix, so at any point an
- 1:05:31agent could take over his body and kill.
- 1:05:34Them Oh, that's why. That's why.
- 1:05:36They just be killing real people.
- 1:05:38Then who? What?
- 1:05:39Cause she shoots agent at close range and then the guy he's
- 1:05:42inside of dies. Yeah, Hey, you gotta do what you
- 1:05:45gotta do if you're gonna, you know, make it, make an omelette.
- 1:05:48You gotta scramble some eggs. So, yeah, that's pretty much
- 1:05:51what I got. There's a bunch of other stuff
- 1:05:55that I probably missed. Yeah, and it's been discussed
- 1:05:57time and time again that this is a parody of basically Jesus
- 1:06:01Christ. He's the right word.
- 1:06:04Well, maybe not parody, but maybe like a I don't know.
- 1:06:07What would you call it? A parody of Jesus Christ would
- 1:06:10be when Mad TV did the Terminator.
- 1:06:13Jesus, like Terminator, goes back in time to save Jesus.
- 1:06:17OK, not a parody, but it's. It's it's the shoots everybody.
- 1:06:21It's the story of Jesus Christ. Recycled if you will.
- 1:06:24OK OK. The bug going into Neo's belly
- 1:06:27button is fucking disgusting. Yes.
- 1:06:29So. Pubes are in that scene.
- 1:06:31They zoom in and it's like it's his belly hair and then his
- 1:06:35pubes. The piano pubes.
- 1:06:36Yeah, they're like coming out of his pants.
- 1:06:38You Keanu pubes. We don't need to see Keanu's
- 1:06:41pubes. Thank.
- 1:06:42You very much Kikano pubes in 4K.
- 1:06:45The red pill, blue pill scene with Morpheus sounds like he's
- 1:06:49trying to get Neo to join a cult.
- 1:06:52Yeah. He's like, you know something is
- 1:06:54wrong with the world and you want to know the.
- 1:06:56Truth. Let's see.
- 1:06:57That's such a cult leader thing to say.
- 1:06:59And then he's like, and then he's like, here, take this pill
- 1:07:01and go on an acid trip with me. It was tough for me to pick the
- 1:07:04best moment, but that scene, Oh my God.
- 1:07:08When he walks into that room, he sits on the couch and the way.
- 1:07:11Yeah, but I just imagined myself in that scene.
- 1:07:13I'm not gonna believe you and I'm not gonna take this
- 1:07:15medicine. Who the fuck are you?
- 1:07:18Well, he he's like teaching comma.
- 1:07:20Take these drugs and come join my.
- 1:07:21Chip committed. They just took a bug out of his
- 1:07:23stomach. He took dark things real.
- 1:07:25I don't know, man, I guess. Yeah, that.
- 1:07:27Kind of, yeah. But that scene is so good.
- 1:07:29It's such good writing. And every time I watch it, I'm
- 1:07:32like, yo, some days I feel like that.
- 1:07:35The way he wakes up, he's like, the Matrix is sore everywhere
- 1:07:38around you. You could feel it when you go to
- 1:07:39work, when you pay your taxes, when you go to church, you know?
- 1:07:47Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know
- 1:07:51something. What do you know?
- 1:07:53You can't explain, but you feel it.
- 1:07:56You felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong
- 1:08:00with the world. You don't know what it is, but
- 1:08:02it's there, like a splinter in your mind driving you mad.
- 1:08:07I feel that the most first thing in the morning, like when you
- 1:08:10have to get up and start your day.
- 1:08:12I feel the most when people talk to you like robots, like how was
- 1:08:16your weekend? It's like why are you talking
- 1:08:18like that? Just be normal.
- 1:08:20Yeah. It's very matrix vibes.
- 1:08:22It is office. Office jargon always is.
- 1:08:24No, no. But office, you know, just some
- 1:08:27people feel like NPC's out in the world.
- 1:08:30Yeah, name like 3 people in my life where I'm like here in PC.
- 1:08:37Yeah, they need a firmware update plug isn't plug it in
- 1:08:41their ass. She's off.
- 1:08:45Why isn't Morpheus the chosen one?
- 1:08:47The Oracle literally says that they need him.
- 1:08:49So why is it Neil? Neil doesn't know shit.
- 1:08:52Neo is the one that's I guess gonna save them, but Morpheus?
- 1:08:56The one who has to find him. Yeah, but they can't.
- 1:08:59If Morpheus had died, like apparently the world would have
- 1:09:02been screwed. That's what the Oracle says.
- 1:09:04So isn't Morpheus technically the chosen 1?
- 1:09:06I don't know. There's a lot of theories.
- 1:09:07There's a theory online that Agent Smith is the One and Neo
- 1:09:11never was, and but you needed Neo to push Agent Smith to end
- 1:09:17the war and defeat the machines. So then Neil is the one.
- 1:09:20So here's the theory. While Neil is technically the
- 1:09:23one of the prophecy of popular fan theory argues that Agent
- 1:09:26Smith is actually the true one or the functional equivalent in
- 1:09:31the Matrix trilogy. This theory suggests Smith
- 1:09:34serves as a counterpoint to Neo fulfilling the requirements to
- 1:09:38reload the Matrix and by merging with Neo and Revolutions,
- 1:09:42becoming the anomaly that returns to the source.
- 1:09:44So they need each other. Needed.
- 1:09:47The Ying and Yang is essentially.
- 1:09:49What they're saying, it's the balancing out of like, you can't
- 1:09:51have good without evil. Yes.
- 1:09:54You can't have sunshine without. Rain.
- 1:09:55So yeah, that's the theory. They're they're saying that, you
- 1:09:58know, if he's the one, then he's the 1B, you know what I mean?
- 1:10:01Yeah, that makes sense. Why does the Oracle live in the
- 1:10:05matrix? She's a program in the matrix,
- 1:10:08so. She's not a person.
- 1:10:09The Matrix? Was the Architect designed the
- 1:10:12Matrix? OK, in this movie The architect
- 1:10:15is basically supposed to be God, so he designs the matrix.
- 1:10:19The Oracles of Program Smith is a program, and basically the
- 1:10:25program has been run 5 or 6 times and it's always been reset
- 1:10:30because the one decides he makes choice A instead of choice B and
- 1:10:36kneels the first one to make choice B, and then that's when
- 1:10:40things change. So you'll have to watch the
- 1:10:42second and third movie to see the whole complete story, but
- 1:10:45basically everybody's A. Program like excluding the
- 1:10:48second movie. We're just talking about this
- 1:10:50movie as as its own. Why is the Oracle living in the
- 1:10:53Matrix? Why wouldn't she living like on
- 1:10:55Zion or something? She's not a person, she's a
- 1:10:57computer program. But you said Neo is a program
- 1:10:59too. He's a person.
- 1:11:00Yeah, but the Architect made Neo a person in the system.
- 1:11:04The Oracle is a program in the system.
- 1:11:07It's a software. Why do they trust her if she's a
- 1:11:09program? I don't know.
- 1:11:11That's a, that's a tough one. I'm not sure that's a good.
- 1:11:13Question I thought it was weird I was like is she not an ally?
- 1:11:16Why is she living in the? Matrix.
- 1:11:17That's a noodle scratcher for sure.
- 1:11:18You got me good. And the last thing I have is
- 1:11:21that the elevator bomb scene is a RIP off of speed.
- 1:11:26I think. Because of the time when the
- 1:11:28elevator and also the explosion looks so fucking fake.
- 1:11:33But it's real. I showed you the special
- 1:11:35effects. They did it with real flames.
- 1:11:37Yeah, you showed me that it was real and I was shocked because I
- 1:11:40thought that those slams. And I showed you a bunch of the
- 1:11:43Wire work. Was the real actors?
- 1:11:45No. Stopping my mind.
- 1:11:47Yeah, these guys put in work. It was weird to see Keanu like
- 1:11:52smiling and stuff and the stunts cause he never.
- 1:11:54Smiles Carrie Anne Moss. She rolled her ankle really
- 1:11:56badly, but she didn't say anything in the beginning
- 1:11:58because she she rolled it pretty early in filming and she didn't
- 1:12:02wanna be recast, so she just fought through.
- 1:12:04Ohso. She's G counter use fucked up
- 1:12:09his neck and his back in this movie so he couldn't do a lot of
- 1:12:13kicks. So like, some of his best kicks
- 1:12:17are really early on before he got injured.
- 1:12:19The way he puts his leg down after he kicks Agent Smith
- 1:12:23across that hallways. So stupid.
- 1:12:25No it's not. If you ever see a Van Damme
- 1:12:28movie this bitch puts his legs in the sky cause he can.
- 1:12:32Really super flexible and we're going to review some Van Dame
- 1:12:35movies soon. Oh God.
- 1:12:37Fucking. Help me.
- 1:12:40So I got Will Smith. He was supposed to be Neo
- 1:12:43originally but he declined because he didn't get it and he
- 1:12:47did wild Wild West instead. Big mistake.
- 1:12:50It wasn't a big mistake cause his career exploded.
- 1:12:53Yeah, but honestly, Will Smith, it wouldn't have been as good.
- 1:12:56Neo. Keanu Reeves was perfect for
- 1:12:58this role. He was the right kind of like,
- 1:13:02like quiet and subdued acting. And it was perfect and acting.
- 1:13:08The person was supposed to be Morpheus for Will Smith's Neo
- 1:13:11was Val Kilmer and more. Laurence Fishburne is goaded for
- 1:13:15this role. This is think that I think the
- 1:13:18casting that happened was. Like he was in Boys in the Hood,
- 1:13:21you know, he was furious Styles. He was in higher learning.
- 1:13:26But this movie, holy shit, man. Just Lawrence Fisherman's just
- 1:13:30killing it in every scene. Sandra Bullock was supposed to
- 1:13:33be Trinity. No.
- 1:13:35Way. But she declined because the
- 1:13:38first actor they had picked to play Neo, she said I wouldn't
- 1:13:43have a good chemistry with him. Then she declined.
- 1:13:46Carrie Anne Moss got the part and then Sandy's like fuck, like
- 1:13:51she found out. Sandy actually has chemistry
- 1:13:54with Yeah, so would have. Been better.
- 1:13:56They did speed and they did lake house together.
- 1:13:59Yeah, it would have been better because Carrie Anne Moss, I
- 1:14:02don't know if she's wooden or what, but.
- 1:14:04She's great in this movie. I think she's.
- 1:14:05Great. Yeah, but they have no
- 1:14:06chemistry. She really?
- 1:14:07Seemed like a brother and. Sister, she's a believable
- 1:14:09badass. No, she is, yeah, but there she
- 1:14:12doesn't have any chemistry with Keanu, and Keanu is also a
- 1:14:14terrible actor. So no, they, I messed up my
- 1:14:17thing for that whole thing. And the movie is she doesn't
- 1:14:21have chemistry because so she's confused cause she's like, do I
- 1:14:25love this person? Do I not?
- 1:14:26Is he this person that I fall in love with?
- 1:14:28Like what's happening here? And for him, the Oracle
- 1:14:31literally says, I can see why she likes you.
- 1:14:33And he's like who? And she's like not too bright
- 1:14:36though. Like he doesn't know that
- 1:14:37Trinity has a thing for him and he's kind of playing very cool.
- 1:14:42He's not even, you know, going forward or anything.
- 1:14:45He's been very, very nonchalant about his feelings toward her.
- 1:14:50It just comes off as a lack of chemistry.
- 1:14:53Well, Russell Crowe was also picked to play Morpheus.
- 1:14:58I'm not a big fan of. Aristocrat.
- 1:14:59But I think the casting was perfect for this movie.
- 1:15:01You've got Hugo Weaving playing Agent Smith.
- 1:15:04That's an iconic outfit, that's iconic role.
- 1:15:07Just the voice, the way his his cadence, Mr. Anderson, when the
- 1:15:13scene where Smith is interrogating Morpheus, the one
- 1:15:16that you think is gross, it's giving one Zed gets here.
- 1:15:20The party can begin vibes, you know, from Pulp Fiction.
- 1:15:23So he's in A room, you got a guy in a chair tied up, he's like
- 1:15:28beat up or drugged, take your pick.
- 1:15:31And there's other guys in the room with them, and there's one
- 1:15:33guy who's basically tormenting him.
- 1:15:36The other movies, Ving Rhames and Bruce Willis, this ones got
- 1:15:39more Morpheus with Lauren Fishburne, Laurence Fishburne.
- 1:15:43And, you know, he's talking to him and he's taunting him and
- 1:15:46he's like touching his face and all this weird stuff.
- 1:15:48And you're like, yo, is he gonna sodomize him?
- 1:15:51You know, like, if you didn't know what movie you were
- 1:15:54watching, you see that scene? You're like, what is he doing?
- 1:15:59Interesting. I told you it was gross.
- 1:16:01It is. It's supposed to be gross.
- 1:16:03Fight choreography in this movie is amazing.
- 1:16:05It's by you, you and whooping. He did Drunken Master with
- 1:16:08Jackie Chan, Fist of Legend with Jet Li.
- 1:16:11So it's aged very well. Fight scenes look real.
- 1:16:15They look believable. It's just very, very well done.
- 1:16:18So which Bill you taking? It's my question for you.
- 1:16:20If it's my life now, I'm I'm taking the one that keeps seeing
- 1:16:24the matrix with you guys. The blue pill.
- 1:16:26Yeah, I don't wanna. I don't wanna go live on a ship
- 1:16:28with all these randoms. I wanna stay with you and my
- 1:16:30baby. OK, so that answers this next
- 1:16:33question Segue. Does this movie hit different as
- 1:16:35a parent? Absolutely.
- 1:16:38There's a scene where it shows a baby in a pod being fed
- 1:16:41liquified remains of a dead human.
- 1:16:43Yeah, that's fucked. It's fucked.
- 1:16:45I don't like I was, I was triggered by that.
- 1:16:48Especially because I like carefully don't eat like
- 1:16:52anything that's bad for me so that my breast milk is really
- 1:16:54healthy for our baby. Oh no, she heard me.
- 1:16:58Speak of the baby. She's like, come give me some.
- 1:17:01OK, we'll be right back. OK, I'm back, my sweet little
- 1:17:07piglet. She just wanted her pussy and
- 1:17:10then she wanted me to hold her tiny hand for a couple minutes.
- 1:17:13She went right back to sleep. Yeah, so seeing that baby being
- 1:17:18fed liquified remains of a dead human was messed up and it
- 1:17:23disturbed me. And then as someone who has been
- 1:17:25pregnant, seeing the human farms made me like fearful of the
- 1:17:31future. There is a robot that's being
- 1:17:33worked on right now that can carry a child apparently to
- 1:17:38term. It's almost ready to grow a full
- 1:17:41human inside a robot. And the times end of.
- 1:17:45Times that's just the beginning. Yeah, that's I don't think they
- 1:17:48should do that. What if the persons born without
- 1:17:49a soul? Yeah, you're freaking me out
- 1:17:53right now. I'm not.
- 1:17:53Great, there's no placenta. It freaks me out.
- 1:17:56Don't do that. Yeah, this movie just also makes
- 1:18:00me question the future our children are going to live in.
- 1:18:03AI continues to evolve and make more and more jobs obsolete.
- 1:18:08We don't know what's going to happen if AI escapes our
- 1:18:11control. An uncertain future for our kids
- 1:18:14with giant computers to run the IAI that need tons of water and
- 1:18:18energy to run and destroy the environment.
- 1:18:21It's it's an unsettling future that this movie is kind of
- 1:18:26predicting. People staring at screens,
- 1:18:28people basically living in these cubicles.
- 1:18:31Staring at screens being plugged into a virtual reality like VR
- 1:18:35headsets are already. I'm talking about what's
- 1:18:37actually feasible. No, but that's all coming.
- 1:18:40You got VR headsets already? You know I saw this video like 4
- 1:18:44years ago when VR headsets just came out and there was this guy.
- 1:18:48He wore a VR headset for a week. He did not leave his home.
- 1:18:51He wore a virtual reality. Headset.
- 1:18:53Does that mess your brain? Up and it was a 3D model of his
- 1:18:57apartment and you showered with it he slapped with it he ate
- 1:19:04with it he did everything with it and then after he took it off
- 1:19:08after the week it took him like 4 days to adjust and you know
- 1:19:12what his response was he said when I took it off it felt like
- 1:19:16I upgraded my graphics card and everything became really like he
- 1:19:22went from N64 to PlayStation 5 graphics yeah so people are
- 1:19:26already. That's mess.
- 1:19:28That's unhealthy bro. OK, we're basically in the
- 1:19:32simulation already and I'm, I'm just, I'm just disturbed because
- 1:19:35this movie makes you face that fact and and fear for the
- 1:19:40future, especially as a parent. Yeah.
- 1:19:42Hopefully there will be jobs and and opportunities for our kids
- 1:19:45to live fruitful lives. Yeah, so this movie does hit
- 1:19:50different as a parent, The scene where Neil wakes up after he's
- 1:19:55unplugged and the sound of the music, it's terrifying.
- 1:20:02And I don't know if it's as a parent or as an adult, but it
- 1:20:05was scary when I was young, especially when he looks left
- 1:20:08and right and he sees all these pods with people in them.
- 1:20:10Or are you comparing it to childbirth?
- 1:20:13That whole sequence is terrifying because Neil wakes up
- 1:20:17and it's like, Can you imagine? You just wake up from a dream,
- 1:20:21you go to bed, you wake up all of a sudden and you look and
- 1:20:26you're in this giant space and there's hundreds of thousands of
- 1:20:31pods around you. And you just woke up this red
- 1:20:34goo around you. And you got these cables
- 1:20:37sticking out of your arms and your back and your head, and you
- 1:20:41realize everything you knew, all your loved ones, all your
- 1:20:46memories, everything was a simulation.
- 1:20:49It was fake. None of it was real.
- 1:20:52It's essentially waking up from a sweet dream to a shitty
- 1:20:56reality in my opinion. This is why this movie makes me
- 1:21:00spiral. Yeah, so, and then on top of
- 1:21:03that, as a parent, yes, I am not taking the red pill.
- 1:21:07I am taking the fucking blue pill.
- 1:21:08Because, you know, if I'm Neo and I have kids and I wake up in
- 1:21:12that reality, I'm fucking terrified.
- 1:21:15The first thing I'm going to do, I'm going to go unplug my kids
- 1:21:20and find their. Paws, that's true.
- 1:21:21The kids would still be real. Yeah, it's just really scary
- 1:21:25cause according to what Morpheus was saying, it's very hard to
- 1:21:30get people unplugged safely because the machines intervene
- 1:21:34and stuff like that. It's very risky.
- 1:21:36Especially our baby. She's probably too young.
- 1:21:38Well, people grow like Tank and Dozer.
- 1:21:41They're natural born humans in the real world.
- 1:21:45So somebody birthed them, somebody fed them and you know,
- 1:21:48Tanks got some some muscle mass. So I mean, he's pretty healthy.
- 1:21:52So there is something that can be done in that regard.
- 1:21:55But just as a parent, I'm like, I'm not leaving the Matrix.
- 1:21:59It's terrifying. So this movie is scary because
- 1:22:03not for the reasons of AI and stuff.
- 1:22:05I'm just like the the the whole concept of waking up like that
- 1:22:09frightens me more now than it ever has.
- 1:22:13Because you have a lot to lose. Yeah, I think that's why and
- 1:22:16that's why it's different as a parent.
- 1:22:18Yeah. So how many red pills do you
- 1:22:20give this out of 10? I think parts of it are pretty
- 1:22:25dated, but I think it is a unique and interesting story.
- 1:22:29OK, so I'm gonna give it a 7 out of 10, seven red pills out of.
- 1:22:3410 You think that's air you're breathing?
- 1:22:38I give this movie A99 red pills out of 10, so call that an
- 1:22:42overdose but I'm taking 9 red pills for this fucking movie.
- 1:22:48This movie slaps so hard. It's just amazing.
- 1:22:53The acting, the writing. I think it's just you have two
- 1:22:58really well spoken actors and every time they speak you just
- 1:23:02you can't like Morpheus should be like a university professor
- 1:23:06or something. Just Laurence Fishburne.
- 1:23:08Like I want him to be like books on tape, everything, just the
- 1:23:11way. She always plays somebody in a
- 1:23:13respectable role, like like in Hannibal?
- 1:23:17In Hannibal, yeah. He was the FBI.
- 1:23:21And he has some fight scenes in Hannibal too.
- 1:23:23I don't remember the fight. Scenes There was a fight scene
- 1:23:25where he fights Hannibal. There is a really good fight
- 1:23:28scene in the Matrix Reloaded with him.
- 1:23:29It's one of the fucking best because he fights an agent
- 1:23:33again. It's really good.
- 1:23:36So, ladies and gentlemen, that was episode 7 of the Take Two
- 1:23:40pod. It was The Matrix, the original
- 1:23:45of the trilogy we don't talk about #4 because it never
- 1:23:48happened. It was all a dream.
- 1:23:51It was all a video game. Yeah, it was not real.
- 1:23:54It was the matrix. Please follow us on Instagram
