- 0:05Hi, I'm Jeff Allen. Thank you for listening to the
- 0:08slippery slope so this will be the last episode I do for a
- 0:11couple of days, as I said before, I do have to work these
- 0:16days. So I'm away for a little while,
- 0:18usually a week, at a time, if you do want to support me in
- 0:20other ways, you can go and listen to my music and that just
- 0:23go. Look at Forge a felon on Spotify
- 0:26or iTunes, something like that. You can check out my music
- 0:29there. You can also watch my stuff on
- 0:31YouTube and that would be fantastic.
- 0:33Hey, this story here with everything going on in the news
- 0:38today, I had to talk about this and this.
- 0:41Well, this opinion piece by Jonathan Steele from the
- 0:44guardian. The headline says, compare Iraq
- 0:48with Ukraine. It's clear the era of the u.s.
- 0:52global Supremacy is over. Now, some very interesting
- 0:56points in this. In this article, also, it Funny
- 1:00when you think about and compare Iraq with Ukraine.
- 1:05Well, it's amazing. Think about see the differences,
- 1:10the differences in the way things are handled globally.
- 1:14Not just with you, Iraq and Ukraine.
- 1:17You, look at other Wars, other conflicts that are currently
- 1:20happening at the moment. To me, it's very strange than
- 1:25the way. The Ukraine war is handled by
- 1:28the rest of the world. Old and what, how the leadership
- 1:32and Ukraine, you know how they are treated globally and they,
- 1:39their leadership. His leadership is, wow, it's
- 1:44really held up on a pedestal and I just think it's very strange,
- 1:48the way the rest of the world holds it.
- 1:50He is billed as some kind of leader and they don't really
- 1:57question. Don't really question.
- 2:00How he got to where he is. And some of the Some of the Back
- 2:04stories or some of the, some of the history that he has anyway,
- 2:09we'll go through this article. It says it's a useful
- 2:12coincidence that the 20th anniversary of George W, bush
- 2:16and Tony Blair's illegal attack. On our rack falls, only a matter
- 2:21of weeks after the anniversary of Vladimir Putin's illegal
- 2:25attack on Ukraine. So neither war was authorized by
- 2:28the UN. Both a marked by massive
- 2:32destruction and Huge loss of life.
- 2:36So the bush Blair Invasion and occupation of Iraq and it's
- 2:40chaotic consequences have taken the lives of more than a million
- 2:45Iraqi civilians. According just to one survey.
- 2:49So US forces committed innumerable war crimes.
- 2:53Not least the torture of captured soldiers at the Abu
- 2:57ghraib ghraib detention center near Baghdad us officers
- 3:02humiliated. Iraqi prisoners in violation of
- 3:04the Geneva conventions. The Invasion, provoked,
- 3:08widespread resistance, but us counterinsurgency tactics
- 3:13involved raids on Villages that led to massacres of unarmed
- 3:18civilians. So, the world reacted to the
- 3:21bush player wall with disapproval.
- 3:24But almost no action was taken against them.
- 3:27There was no State impose sanctions on the US or Britain.
- 3:32No. Investigators from the
- 3:33international criminal court took evidence to Stan, she ate
- 3:37prosecution for war crimes, a few individuals and some human
- 3:41rights organizations call for Blair to be indicted on the
- 3:45charge of committing, the crime of aggression.
- 3:48But no government approached. The UN with resolution to open a
- 3:52criminal case against them. Now, consider the very different
- 3:56reaction to Vladimir Putin's illegal war on Ukraine virtually
- 4:01every Western Government following.
- 4:03The US has lead has slapped sanctions.
- 4:06Russia's exports. Russia's Financial Holdings in
- 4:10u.s. banks have been frozen Putin's friends have had their
- 4:13yachts and other property impounded.
- 4:16And then a few days ago, the international criminal court
- 4:19issued an arrest warrant for Putin for war crimes, involving
- 4:24the illegal deportation of children from from Ukraine.
- 4:29Now I'll just be clear. I don't mind any of these
- 4:31things. The I'm not against any of these
- 4:33sanctions I'm not against the National Criminal Court.
- 4:37Issuing an arrest warrant for Putin.
- 4:39I think he is a bad bad, man. He's obviously, done some
- 4:42atrocious things here. This wall is illegal against the
- 4:47war, not for it at all, but these points are very good when
- 4:51you when you compare the wars and the differences in them.
- 4:54And what happened and what the reactions have been from the
- 4:59International Community, very, very different continue on with
- 5:04this article, the contrast and the Local reaction to the two
- 5:07Wars is instructive. Nothing better illustrates the
- 5:11differential between Russia's media, International Authority,
- 5:16and that of the US will Putin. It's humiliating he may like to
- 5:21think of his country as a superpower, but in reality
- 5:25Beyond holding a massive nuclear.
- 5:27Arsenal, Russia has little Global cloud and few foreign
- 5:32friends. Putin is widely criticized for
- 5:35trying to recreate an old fashioned Empire by seizing land
- 5:40and intimidating States on Russia's western and southern
- 5:44borders. The US for its part runs, a new
- 5:47style of non-territorial Empire with great success.
- 5:51It enjoys enormous political and economic influence on every
- 5:55continent. Dominates, the International
- 5:58Financial system and operates, 750 military bases in more than
- 6:0380 countries, most of the D, not oppose Washington's, RIT some
- 6:10analysts, argue that it rushes defeated in his current war on
- 6:13Ukraine. Europe will be able to post.
- 6:16Sorry, do enjoy a post imperial system of peaceful relations and
- 6:22autonomy on the continent for the first time in history.
- 6:26They forget NATO the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and
- 6:30began in 1949, and still continues in part as an
- 6:35instrument for. For u.s. its hegemony in Europe.
- 6:40Allies May decline to participate in US military
- 6:43operations as France and Germany boldly did over Iraq in 2003.
- 6:49But they did not publicly denounced them as illegal or
- 6:52call the sanctions. Now, 30 years after the demise
- 6:57of the Soviet Union, there are signs that the unipolar world of
- 7:01us dominance may be coming to an end.
- 7:04The main Challenger is Putin's Russia, but an increasingly
- 7:09confident, China leaders in the global South are also stirring
- 7:14in the first flush of shock over Russia's aggression against
- 7:18Ukraine. In February last year, more than
- 7:20140 un States voted to condemn it.
- 7:24But around only around 40 countries in total have joined
- 7:28the u.s. in imposing sanctions on Russia as the West floods.
- 7:32Ukraine with military hardware, the notion that it is merely
- 7:36helping to defend Ukraine. Looks questionable too many
- 7:39Asian African and Latin American states.
- 7:42Who suspect the end goal to be regime change in the Kremlin and
- 7:48except further down here to the end.
- 7:51It says that some fear, a new Cold War this time between the
- 7:56west and China looking 10 years ahead of others, expect to see a
- 8:01multipolar world in, which states will not be pressured to
- 8:05align themselves with. One side or the other either way
- 8:08in spite of the Resurgence of us power in Europe.
- 8:12As a result of the war in Ukraine, the era of us Supremacy
- 8:16in the rest of the world, may soon be over.
- 8:19Listen, while I don't agree with absolutely everything within
- 8:21this article. I think it does make a lot of
- 8:23really good points and this last piece, last part that you wrote.
- 8:28When it says some fear, a new Cold War this time between the
- 8:31west and China, in the end, I do not believe that we will have.
- 8:36Any super power such as the u.s. or China.
- 8:39I don't believe the Bible describes any such super power.
- 8:43I think we're heading for a new Cold War and very possibly the
- 8:47west or the US Britain, fortunately, maybe Australia,
- 8:54and China canceling themselves out.
- 8:58That's just my opinion. We're dancing on Dangerous
- 9:02Ground. Thanks for listening to the
- 9:04slippery. Slope.
