Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Craig Way, alongside the producer Cameron Parker, plenty to discuss
- 0:03Speaker 1: not only the Longhorns game and win over Vanderbilt and
- 0:07Speaker 1: the upcoming bye week on the schedule, the rest of
- 0:10Speaker 1: the SEC and national college football scene. We'll get to
- 0:14Speaker 1: that next hour of the program. Game three of the
- 0:20Speaker 1: World Series is tonight. It's in the Bronx, It's in
- 0:22Speaker 1: New York, a Yankee Stadium. Dodgers lead the Yankee two
- 0:26Speaker 1: games to none, and Gene Watson, our MLB Inside will
- 0:32Speaker 1: join us for his examination of the first two games,
- 0:35Speaker 1: which were really interesting and that both came down to
- 0:38Speaker 1: I didn't think about this until I read about it
- 0:41Speaker 1: later like this morning, that both games, Cameron Parker, came
- 0:47Speaker 1: down to bases loaded to out, nine tending situations decided
- 0:53Speaker 1: in entirely different fashions, although in both cases it went
- 0:56Speaker 1: to the Dodgers' advantage. The Freddie Freeman Grand Slam on Friday,
- 1:00Speaker 1: in what was a really entertaining game, went back and
- 1:03Speaker 1: forth of scoreless going into the sixth Dodgers get a run.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yankees get that monstrous to run homer from John Carlo Stanton.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Dodgers scratch and claw to find a way and he
- 1:14Speaker 1: ate the tiet the Yankees and it goes into the tenth,
- 1:16Speaker 1: and then the Yankees get the run in the top
- 1:18Speaker 1: of the tenth, and then there's Freddy Freeman after after
- 1:23Speaker 1: the intentional walk to load the vases and boom, Freddy
- 1:27Speaker 1: Freeman goes deep with the Grand Slam home run in
- 1:30Speaker 1: the Dodgers win Game one, Game two Saturday night. And
- 1:34Speaker 1: that was the deal when we were talking about me
- 1:35Speaker 1: going and getting the chicken damage from Bojangles a race
- 1:37Speaker 1: back in the hotel room. I didn't get back in
- 1:39Speaker 1: the room watching it till the bottom of the seventh,
- 1:42Speaker 1: but got there and then obviously saw that come down
- 1:45Speaker 1: to there in the ninth when the Dodgers got out
- 1:50Speaker 1: of the bases loaded jam in the ninth after the
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yankees had scored a run in La wins it by
- 1:54Speaker 1: a score of four to two, so they're up two
- 1:56Speaker 1: games to nine. Did you were you watching Friday? Watching
- 2:02Speaker 1: watching on Friday? And you know I texted you in
- 2:05Speaker 1: hard after Freeman's walk off Grand Slam because remember Game
- 2:09Speaker 1: one of last year's World Series, Corey Seeger, with two
- 2:11Speaker 1: outs in the bottom of the ninth, hit a solo
- 2:13Speaker 1: shot that tied it up, that sent it to extras
- 2:16Speaker 1: and then a Doulas Carcia had a walk off home
- 2:19Speaker 1: run in extra inning. So I think it's back to
- 2:21Speaker 1: back years where we've had a walk off home run
- 2:24Speaker 1: to the side.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Game one where the home team won. So now Game two,
- 2:27Speaker 2: I was an ugly diamondback that just blew out the Rangers.
- 2:30Speaker 2: So Game two came out of the bout ninth inning.
- 2:32Speaker 2: You might question a few Craig, is, how is your
- 2:34Speaker 2: mental health? How's your heart rate? You know, did you
- 2:36Speaker 2: need blood thinners? I mean it's a lot when when
- 2:40Speaker 2: both games come down the ninth inning, because I think
- 2:43Speaker 2: playoff baseball it's so much fun, Craig, but I feel
- 2:46Speaker 2: like out of all the sports, it has a different
- 2:49Speaker 2: level of anxiety with it because all it takes is
- 2:52Speaker 2: just one pitch to go wrong or go right, and
- 2:54Speaker 2: that can completely decide the outcome of the game.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Yeah, that, you know, and I kind of, you know
- 2:59Speaker 1: what else, I kind of equated to a Stanley Cup
- 3:02Speaker 1: final playoff game because it can change so quickly, you know, uh,
- 3:08Speaker 1: to do that? I was when they squandered The Dodgers
- 3:12Speaker 1: squandered a couple opportunities to add more runs, and particularly
- 3:16Speaker 1: I didn't have a real good feeling going into that
- 3:18Speaker 1: bottom of the tenth, especially after the yank hees Haid
- 3:20Speaker 1: scored in the top of the tenth. I agree, but
- 3:24Speaker 1: you know, when the walk came to pitch to Freddie Freeman,
- 3:29Speaker 1: I thought, he's I was just thinking a base hit.
- 3:32Speaker 1: He's capable of putting one in the gap that tie. I,
- 3:36Speaker 1: like everybody else, couldn't leave. It was a grand slam,
- 3:38Speaker 1: and it happened. And then in Game two I could
- 3:40Speaker 1: see It's almost like I could see the gas going
- 3:43Speaker 1: out of the tank of Blake training there in the night,
- 3:46Speaker 1: and that it was going to get in away, getting away,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and then he gives way to Vessia and Lynn and
- 3:52Speaker 1: I were texting. I said to think about VESSI is
- 3:54Speaker 1: this he could strike the guy out or hit him
- 3:57Speaker 1: and tie the score. And it only took one pitch,
- 4:01Speaker 1: but it was a pop up and that was the end.
- 4:02Speaker 1: And so it's two games done. But I and I'm
- 4:05Speaker 1: not just saying this because of being a Dodger fan.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I'm also saying this as a realist who's watched a
- 4:09Speaker 1: lot of baseball over the years, that this series is
- 4:12Speaker 1: far from over all that has happened is that the
- 4:15Speaker 1: home team has defended its home turf in the first
- 4:19Speaker 1: two games. There's that old saying that the best of
- 4:22Speaker 1: seven series really doesn't start until a road team wins
- 4:24Speaker 1: a game. So we'll see how it is. And the
- 4:29Speaker 1: pitching is still better set up for the Yankees, even
- 4:32Speaker 1: though the Dodgers have gotten uncharacteristically at least for this
- 4:36Speaker 1: year and this postseason in particular, good starting pitching in
- 4:39Speaker 1: the first two games, both from Jack Flaherty who went
- 4:41Speaker 1: five innings, and then Yoshinoba Yamamota went six and a
- 4:46Speaker 1: third and did a really good job with that. So
- 4:51Speaker 1: but the bullpens looked a little more vulnerable in each
- 4:53Speaker 1: of those two games, giving up some runs, and the
- 4:56Speaker 1: Yankees will say the Yankees got to get Aaron Judge going.
- 4:58Speaker 1: He just really floundering right now. So we'll see. As
- 5:03Speaker 1: far as we know, Shoe Aotani will play. It is
- 5:07Speaker 1: a sublexation of his left shoulder, but Dave Roberts sounded
- 5:12Speaker 1: confident yesterday that he probably would be back in action.
- 5:15Speaker 1: So we'll discuss more of that with Gene Watson coming up. Okay,
- 5:19Speaker 1: let me answer this Craig. Yeah, so you mentioned you
- 5:21Speaker 1: watched the game in your hotel room. I did. So.
- 5:25Speaker 2: You also said that Roger Will went to a sports bar.
- 5:27Speaker 2: So are you someone that does not like to watch
- 5:29Speaker 2: when your team plays with other people, you.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Want to be by yourself. Well, in that particular instance,
- 5:36Speaker 1: I didn't because I didn't know the surroundings of that
- 5:39Speaker 1: particular sports bar there. Rogers said, I wouldn't have enjoyed it.
- 5:42Speaker 1: On Friday Audios, I ordered a pizza in the room
- 5:44Speaker 1: and sat and ruminated. Rogers said, I would not have
- 5:47Speaker 1: enjoyed it in the sports bar because there was a
- 5:51Speaker 1: how shall I put this, an ecumenically based conference going
- 5:56Speaker 1: on in the hotel. So he said, there were a
- 6:01Speaker 1: lot of church faith based people in that sports bar
- 6:03Speaker 1: who were not spending much money at the bar, but
- 6:06Speaker 1: they were kind of loud and boisterous and all that
- 6:08Speaker 1: other kind of stuff, and it would have been difficult
- 6:11Speaker 1: to concentrate on what I was watching and hearing and
- 6:13Speaker 1: things like that. That's why I thought about doing it
- 6:16Speaker 1: the next night. And I'm at this point, it's so
- 6:18Speaker 1: late in the game and I'm hungry. Just grab something
- 6:20Speaker 1: and go to the room. That's why I'm not university
- 6:24Speaker 1: opposed to that. I remember when the Dodgers lost the
- 6:28Speaker 1: Cubs in sixteen, in twenty sixteen game six, when they
- 6:32Speaker 1: beat Kershaw in one game six and the Cubs we're
- 6:34Speaker 1: going to go to the World Series. I watched that
- 6:37Speaker 1: in a pizza joint near the Kansas City Airport. I
- 6:43Speaker 1: had a hotel room there and I was going to
- 6:44Speaker 1: come back the next morning, but I watched it in
- 6:47Speaker 1: this pizza sports bar thing. I remember watching that, So
- 6:49Speaker 1: I'm not universally opposed to it. It's just that particular
- 6:53Speaker 1: set of circumstances. I wasn't up for it. So we'll see.
- 6:57Speaker 1: We'll all be watching on that. Okay. I know you
- 6:59Speaker 1: were watching yesterday the end of Washington in Chicago. Now
- 7:04Speaker 1: there's two things at work here on this. I have
- 7:06Speaker 1: a stat for you too. Okay. First of all, it
- 7:12Speaker 1: was the Bears. Remember trying when they could have put
- 7:18Speaker 1: things away, when they tried to do the refrigerator Perry
- 7:24Speaker 1: thing and the handoff and he got fumbled, and so
- 7:29Speaker 1: that was that was one thing. But then they go
- 7:31Speaker 1: ahead and they take the lead, and then it comes
- 7:34Speaker 1: down to the you know, after Roshawn Johnson had scored
- 7:39Speaker 1: the touchdown the former long one to give the Bears
- 7:41Speaker 1: the lead. So then you see what happens with there
- 7:47Speaker 1: were in the in the waning seconds of the game,
- 7:51Speaker 1: the Bears had two seconds to work with. So are
- 7:57Speaker 1: the commanders did oh Chicago rush three linemen? They had
- 8:03Speaker 1: a fourth defender spy for when Jane Daniels was going
- 8:06Speaker 1: to get out of the pocket, and none of the
- 8:09Speaker 1: defenders really got close to him, and he rolled one
- 8:13Speaker 1: side and he rolled back to the other side as well,
- 8:16Speaker 1: and then the Bears had had put guys down by
- 8:21Speaker 1: the goal line and one bay. It actually is kind
- 8:26Speaker 1: of a basic play when you throw a hail Mary's
- 8:28Speaker 1: that you put one guy behind, yeah, the scrum in
- 8:31Speaker 1: case it's a tip drill, Well, it's a defense. You
- 8:34Speaker 1: got to put one guy on that guy that there
- 8:37Speaker 1: were five guys, five guys on the ball coming down,
- 8:41Speaker 1: nobody behind nobody, and uh it was Tyreek Stevenson over
- 8:49Speaker 1: there taunting the fans and oh wait, I gotta go
- 8:51Speaker 1: finish defending this play. And he goes run it over
- 8:54Speaker 1: there and he's the one who tips it. Uh to
- 8:56Speaker 1: do it? Just a ma that that happened. And then
- 9:03Speaker 1: Noah Brown catches it. It's a touchdown when the game's over.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Oh man.
- 9:07Speaker 2: So this is from Mike Sando with the Athletic Craig.
- 9:10Speaker 2: The Commanders were the forty eighth team since two thousand
- 9:13Speaker 2: the takeover possession down three at least seventy five yards
- 9:18Speaker 2: away from the opponent's goal line, with about fifteen to
- 9:20Speaker 2: twenty five seconds remaining on the game clock when the
- 9:23Speaker 2: ball was kicked off to them. Now, the previous forty
- 9:27Speaker 2: seven teams, five made game time field golds, two missed
- 9:31Speaker 2: the field goal.
- 9:32Speaker 1: None.
- 9:33Speaker 2: None had ever scored a touchdown until Washington did it yesterday. Wow,
- 9:39Speaker 2: creating history. And you know, I know they're an NFC
- 9:43Speaker 2: East rival. I know my dad and a lot of
- 9:46Speaker 2: other Cowboy fans grew up hating the Redskins at the time.
- 9:51Speaker 2: But with all the Dan Snyder stuff, Craig that's happened
- 9:53Speaker 2: to them, this feels like good karma, right. I feel
- 9:56Speaker 2: like we can root for them because of all the
- 9:58Speaker 2: crap with them in the stadium. And I don't know,
- 10:00Speaker 2: I like Jayden Daniels. You know, Sam Cosby plays for
- 10:03Speaker 2: them for me to Texas Longhorns, So kind of a
- 10:05Speaker 2: you know, a feel good story, and it's a lot
- 10:08Speaker 2: better than seeing the Eagles of Giants win. So okay,
- 10:13Speaker 2: But for Chicago, you know, now, because they've had a
- 10:16Speaker 2: pretty easy schedule, that's the game you probably should win.
- 10:19Speaker 2: You win that, you have five wins, and now you're
- 10:21Speaker 2: looking at I think they have to play Detroit twice.
- 10:23Speaker 2: I think they have Green Bay twice. I think they
- 10:25Speaker 2: have Minnesota twice, if I if I remember correctly, maybe
- 10:28Speaker 2: they played one of those before. Now the schedule gets
- 10:30Speaker 2: really tough, gets really tough. So Chicago's gonna look back
- 10:33Speaker 2: on that as one man, how do we.
- 10:36Speaker 1: How do we lose that? Tyreek Stevenson did apologize. That's good,
- 10:40Speaker 1: that's haunting the Washington crowd. Second blaces to Chicago and teammates.
- 10:45Speaker 1: My apologies for lack of awareness and focus. The game
- 10:48Speaker 1: made over till zero hit the clock. Can't take anything
- 10:51Speaker 1: for granted. Notes taking improvement will happen. Hashtag bear down.
- 10:56Speaker 1: So there was all right. Coming up. We'll hear more
- 11:00Speaker 1: from long Ward's head coach, Steve Sarkisian here on sports
- 11:02Speaker 1: Radio AM thirteen under the Zone and the iHeartRadio app.
