- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, Hoosiers? What's up, Buckeyes? Thank you for tuning
- 0:03Speaker 1: in today to College Football Addiction. That game was something,
- 0:07Speaker 1: and it surely taught us a lot about both teams,
- 0:10Speaker 1: but I want to spend a few minutes talking about
- 0:12Speaker 1: the winner today. On our other channel, we will focus
- 0:16Speaker 1: on the other side of this thing, but I want
- 0:18Speaker 1: to talk to you about the game, what it meant,
- 0:22Speaker 1: and where we go from here. First, a quick shout-out.
- 0:24Speaker 1: All of our recaps are very quickly brought to you

- 0:35Speaker 1: More to come from PrizePix in the very near future.
- 0:37Speaker 1: All right, let's dive into this thing. Your Buckeyes went
- 0:41Speaker 1: into Bloomington and got it done. Ohio State 19, Indiana 15.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Number four over number five on the road in a
- 0:49Speaker 1: game billed as the biggest home game in Indiana history
- 0:53Speaker 1: against the team that took the Big Ten title from
- 0:55Speaker 1: you last December. How are you feeling right now? Probably exhausted,
- 1:00Speaker 1: probably a little hoarse, and probably prouder than you've been
- 1:04Speaker 1: all season. It was ugly. and your team had to
- 1:07Speaker 1: grab this one with both hands and refuse to let go.
- 1:11Speaker 1: You know the question that has followed this team since Austin.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Can Ohio State finish a big game? People had their
- 1:17Speaker 1: reasons for asking. Your team was up 23-3 at Texas
- 1:21Speaker 1: and lost. Before that came the 13-10 loss to Indiana
- 1:25Speaker 1: in the title game, and then the playoff loss to Miami.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Three huge moments. Three times your team came up short. Honestly,
- 1:34Speaker 1: that doubt was earned. Tonight, the answer was yes, even
- 1:38Speaker 1: if it got messy. Ohio State built a 12-point lead
- 1:42Speaker 1: early in the fourth quarter, and Indiana answered right away
- 1:45Speaker 1: with a 75-yard touchdown drive in 2 minutes and 16 seconds,
- 1:49Speaker 1: then added the two-point conversion. Suddenly, it's 19-15 with 10.5
- 1:55Speaker 1: minutes left, and every single one of you was thinking
- 1:57Speaker 1: the same thing. Here we go again. You'd seen this movie,
- 2:02Speaker 1: and you knew how it ended. Except this time, it
- 2:05Speaker 1: ended differently. Indiana got the ball back for one more chance,
- 2:09Speaker 1: starting at its own 30. Their best receiver caught passes
- 2:12Speaker 1: of 25 and 16 yards and moved them all the
- 2:15Speaker 1: way to the Ohio State 27. Fourth and four. The
- 2:20Speaker 1: throw went toward the end zone side of the field,
- 2:22Speaker 1: toward the receiver who had already scored on them, and
- 2:25Speaker 1: it fell incomplete. Ball game. In Austin, that late stop
- 2:30Speaker 1: never came. In Bloomington, it did. With the season on
- 2:34Speaker 1: the line, the defense stood there and said, not this time.
- 2:37Speaker 1: And you needed to see that with your own eyes,
- 2:40Speaker 1: in a hostile stadium, against a top-five team with the
- 2:44Speaker 1: clock and the crowd both working against you. A press
- 2:47Speaker 1: conference quote or a preseason preview was never going to
- 2:50Speaker 1: settle it. Tonight, you got to watch it happen. The offense, though,
- 2:55Speaker 1: did not close this game. After Indiana cut it to four,
- 2:59Speaker 1: Ohio State put together a long possession that ate roughly
- 3:02Speaker 1: five minutes and got into Indiana territory. And then an
- 3:06Speaker 1: 18-yard sack and a holding penalty killed it. Punt. The
- 3:10Speaker 1: next time out? The offense went backward. Another punt. That's
- 3:14Speaker 1: two chances to put Indiana away, and two times your
- 3:18Speaker 1: team handed the ball right back. The defense finished this one,
- 3:22Speaker 1: and you can be thrilled about the win and still
- 3:24Speaker 1: be frustrated with how the offense played down the stretch.
- 3:27Speaker 1: But you know what the offense did do? It won
- 3:30Speaker 1: the moments that decided this game. Both Ohio State touchdowns
- 3:33Speaker 1: came on fourth down. Both of them. Right before halftime,
- 3:37Speaker 1: trailing 7-3, Julian Sayen found Bo Jackson for a two-yard
- 3:41Speaker 1: touchdown on fourth and goal with seven seconds left. Instead
- 3:45Speaker 1: of jogging into the locker room down four, your team
- 3:48Speaker 1: went in up 10-7. Then, early in the fourth quarter,
- 3:52Speaker 1: it was fourth and one at the Indiana 38. Your
- 3:55Speaker 1: team needed one yard. Sayen went to Jeremiah Smith and
- 3:58Speaker 1: took 38. Touchdown. After Texas, a lot of people hammered
- 4:03Speaker 1: this staff for playing it too safe. Tonight, they went
- 4:06Speaker 1: for it twice, and they scored twice. Meanwhile, Indiana went
- 4:10Speaker 1: for it twice, both times at the Ohio State 27,
- 4:14Speaker 1: and came away with nothing either time. They also missed
- 4:17Speaker 1: both of their field goal attempts. Ohio State made both
- 4:20Speaker 1: of its kicks, and the guy who made them deserves
- 4:23Speaker 1: a shout. Connor Hawkins, the same kicker who missed from
- 4:26Speaker 1: 45 at Texas before that game-winning drive, hit from 26
- 4:30Speaker 1: and 29 tonight. Short kicks, sure. But in a four-point game,
- 4:35Speaker 1: those six points were everything, and he didn't flinch. This
- 4:40Speaker 1: game was supposed to be a referendum on saying in
- 4:42Speaker 1: big games. His line? 15 of 29, 235 yards, two touchdowns,
- 4:48Speaker 1: two interceptions. That's a mixed bag. His first interception was
- 4:52Speaker 1: returned 23 yards to the Ohio State 7, and it
- 4:56Speaker 1: set up Indiana's only lead of the night. His second
- 4:59Speaker 1: one stopped a third-quarter drive, though Indiana couldn't do anything
- 5:02Speaker 1: with it. Completing barely over half your passes is not
- 5:06Speaker 1: what you want from your quarterback in the biggest game
- 5:08Speaker 1: of the season. On the other hand, he averaged 8.1
- 5:12Speaker 1: yards per attempt and threw both of those fourth-down touchdowns.
- 5:16Speaker 1: He spread it around in bursts. Chris Henry Jr., a
- 5:19Speaker 1: true freshman, caught balls of 21 and 30 yards on
- 5:23Speaker 1: that drive before halftime, and the 30-yarder came right after
- 5:26Speaker 1: a sack had left them in second and 20. A
- 5:29Speaker 1: freshman bailed out that drive in a top five road game.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Jeremiah Smith finished with four catches for 68 yards, and
- 5:37Speaker 1: one of those catches might end up deciding the Big Ten.
- 5:40Speaker 1: My verdict on saying? People wanted a clean big game
- 5:43Speaker 1: performance and didn't get one. But he made the throws
- 5:47Speaker 1: that mattered most when the game was hanging in the balance.
- 5:50Speaker 1: That's real progress from Austin, where he completed five of
- 5:53Speaker 1: 16 after halftime. There's one more thing to watch. Late
- 5:57Speaker 1: in the game, Sion took a sack and fumbled, and
- 6:00Speaker 1: Phillip Daniels recovered it. After that, Luke Fahey took the
- 6:03Speaker 1: remaining snaps, all the way through the kneel downs. Nobody
- 6:07Speaker 1: has said why Sion came out. I'm not going to guess,
- 6:10Speaker 1: and you shouldn't either, but keep an eye on it. Now,
- 6:13Speaker 1: the line. This was the matchup everybody circled. Last December,
- 6:18Speaker 1: Indiana held Ohio State to 58 rushing yards, 2.2 a carry,
- 6:22Speaker 1: and sacked Sion five times. Your line came in shorthanded tonight, too.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Daniels was back at right tackle, but Austin Seereveld was out.
- 6:31Speaker 1: So did they answer the question? Partly. Indiana got three
- 6:35Speaker 1: sacks instead of five, and the protection held long enough
- 6:38Speaker 1: on the big throws. That's better. But Ohio State ran
- 6:41Speaker 1: for 78 yards on 37 carries. That's 2.1 a carry,
- 6:46Speaker 1: which is basically last December all over again. Bo Jackson
- 6:49Speaker 1: worked hard for 56 yards on 18 attempts. and a
- 6:53Speaker 1: backup back gave them a spark with 45 yards on
- 6:56Speaker 1: six carries, including a 22-yarder in that long fourth-quarter drive.
- 7:01Speaker 1: A holding call also wiped out a 20-yard Jackson run early.
- 7:04Speaker 1: So the pass protection was good enough to win, but
- 7:07Speaker 1: the run game is still unproven against an elite front.
- 7:10Speaker 1: You'll want to see that change before the stretch run,
- 7:13Speaker 1: because USC and Oregon are coming. Then there's the defense,
- 7:17Speaker 1: and this is where you should feel the proudest. Coming
- 7:20Speaker 1: into the season, the question was whether Matt Patricia could
- 7:22Speaker 1: rebuild a unit that lost eight starters, especially up front.
- 7:26Speaker 1: The worry going into tonight was a secondary facing Indiana's
- 7:30Speaker 1: passing attack with some quieter concern about the run defense.
- 7:34Speaker 1: The run defense was outstanding. Indiana ran for 73 yards
- 7:39Speaker 1: on 29 carries. Their two main backs combined for 70
- 7:42Speaker 1: yards on 25 attempts, And neither one had a run
- 7:46Speaker 1: longer than seven yards, seven yards all night. That was
- 7:50Speaker 1: your front winning at the line over and over. The
- 7:54Speaker 1: secondary is more complicated. Indiana's top receiver caught nine passes
- 7:58Speaker 1: for 165 yards. Their quarterback threw for 296. That receiver
- 8:04Speaker 1: kept getting open and he kept moving them into scoring position.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And that's a real concern going forward. But look at
- 8:10Speaker 1: what happened when Indiana got close. Their quarterback completed only
- 8:14Speaker 1: half his throws. In the third quarter, Indiana's first three
- 8:18Speaker 1: possessions ended fumble, fumble, missed field goal. One of those
- 8:22Speaker 1: fumbles came on fourth down when Jalen McClain got home
- 8:25Speaker 1: for a sack and knocked the ball loose. This defense
- 8:29Speaker 1: bent a lot, and it still never broke when it counted.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Holding a top-five team to 15 points on its own
- 8:36Speaker 1: field is about as good an answer as you could
- 8:38Speaker 1: ask for. Indiana deserves real credit, too. They outgained your
- 8:42Speaker 1: team 369 to 313. They averaged 5.3 yards a play
- 8:48Speaker 1: to your 4.6. They converted half of their third downs.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Their defense picked off Sayen twice and sacked him three times,
- 8:56Speaker 1: and their edge rusher was a problem all night. Indiana fans,
- 9:00Speaker 1: that was a great football team that had every chance
- 9:03Speaker 1: to win, and you should be proud of how it fought.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Nobody got lucky here. It was a heavyweight fight that
- 9:09Speaker 1: came down to four plays near the Ohio State 27
- 9:12Speaker 1: and the end zone. This win doesn't settle everything. It
- 9:16Speaker 1: doesn't prove the line is fixed or that this offense
- 9:18Speaker 1: can close a game with the ball in its hands.
- 9:21Speaker 1: The secondary still has to show it can handle a
- 9:23Speaker 1: great receiver without giving up big chunks. Those questions are
- 9:27Speaker 1: real and they're still open. What it does prove is
- 9:30Speaker 1: that your team can go on the road against a
- 9:32Speaker 1: top five opponent and take a punch in the fourth quarter,
- 9:36Speaker 1: and still win. This defense is good enough to carry
- 9:39Speaker 1: you on a night when the offense sputters. And the
- 9:42Speaker 1: Texas loss was not who this team is. Ohio State
- 9:45Speaker 1: is now 6-1 and 4-0 in the Big Ten. This
- 9:49Speaker 1: game was expected to make the winner a significant favorite
- 9:52Speaker 1: to win the conference, and your team is the one
- 9:54Speaker 1: walking out of Bloomington with that. You avenged December. You
- 9:59Speaker 1: got the monkey off your back in a big game.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Next comes a trip to the Coliseum to face USC,
- 10:05Speaker 1: then Oregon and Columbus, and Michigan waiting at the end.
- 10:08Speaker 1: This team started the year ranked number one with national
- 10:11Speaker 1: title expectations, and after tonight, those expectations are alive and well.
- 10:17Speaker 1: You earned this one. Enjoy it. If you want more
