- 2:21Speaker 2: to be the final Friday of the regular season for
- 2:23Speaker 2: high school football in West Virginia? Chris Lawrence joined just
- 2:26Speaker 2: good afternoon morning, Sir.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Capitol Market's got to kill go be the death of me.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Last week it was mag and cheese. Tomorrow it's gravy
- 2:33Speaker 4: and biscuits. Yeah, I mean good heavens And then and
- 2:37Speaker 4: then in what is it next week? The ham Festival orangs?
- 2:41Speaker 2: Nextly tomorrow afternoon after I met the biscuits and gravy bowl,
- 2:48Speaker 2: I'm going to be in Nitro for the Wagon Tails
- 2:51Speaker 2: and Nitro Ale's Chili cookoff and beer festival. Right, so
- 2:56Speaker 2: it's breakfast and one. It's going to be a great
- 2:58Speaker 2: gastronomical nights. Oh, I'll just say this, don't want to
- 3:02Speaker 2: be gross old to be missus Dave Allen tomorrow night,
- 3:05Speaker 2: and I'm gonna leave it at that. I'm not gonna
- 3:07Speaker 2: go any further than that.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Well, we will be in Nitro tonight for their final
- 3:12Speaker 4: regular season game, taken on Greenbrier East, and because of
- 3:16Speaker 4: the pending weather, the kickoff time has been moved back
- 3:20Speaker 4: to six o'clock, which means that we will just take
- 3:24Speaker 4: the air. We won't have a pregame show. We'll take
- 3:26Speaker 4: the air as soon as Hotline comes to an end
- 3:28Speaker 4: this afternoon, and if everything's timed right, we'll kick the
- 3:32Speaker 4: darn thing off and away we go. And hopefully the
- 3:36Speaker 4: anticipated storms that are coming through that are said to
- 3:39Speaker 4: be hit and miss as far as or they're going
- 3:41Speaker 4: to drop at least that's what I was following some
- 3:44Speaker 4: of the local meteorologists this morning, that we might get
- 3:48Speaker 4: through that without a delay and we can get in
- 3:50Speaker 4: and out of there and get the game in.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yeah, the lightning is the big deal. It's not so
- 3:53Speaker 2: much the rain.
- 3:54Speaker 4: But I will say, well, it is the brain because
- 3:56Speaker 4: we're actually broadcasting outside for you.
- 3:58Speaker 5: It is.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Yes, Nitro's press box is so small that it cannot
- 4:04Speaker 4: accommodate the level of media attention that their success has
- 4:09Speaker 4: garnered them.
- 4:10Speaker 2: So and as if you're a team that's headed to
- 4:13Speaker 2: the playoffs right now, you know you're kind of keeping
- 4:15Speaker 2: an eye on sloppy field conditions and things of that nature,
- 4:17Speaker 2: because you never want to get a player hurt.
- 4:19Speaker 4: But you dang sure don't want to get them hurt. Now,
- 4:21Speaker 4: that's not going to be an issue at Nitro. They've
- 4:23Speaker 4: got the turf right.
- 4:24Speaker 2: I was talking about in general though the other because
- 4:26Speaker 2: a lot of schools are even moving their games up.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Some moved I think to last night.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Yeah one, Yeah, Princeton and South Charleston was last night.
- 4:34Speaker 4: But you know, this is something that we had a
- 4:36Speaker 4: conversation about the other day with somebody. There aren't very
- 4:40Speaker 4: many fields left that aren't turf right in the region.
- 4:43Speaker 4: I mean, I think Buffalo, Winfield and PoCA are probably
- 4:46Speaker 4: it of the the areas where we do games. Everybody
- 4:50Speaker 4: else has got turf.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Now step up, Putnam County Hurricans got turf right. It's
- 4:54Speaker 2: what I mean.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Well, I'm I was proud to vote for the for
- 4:59Speaker 4: the levy that will it get us a new press
- 5:01Speaker 4: box at those three football fields, at all those football
- 5:04Speaker 4: fields in Putnam County.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 5:06Speaker 4: I even consulted with them about how they ought to
- 5:08Speaker 4: do that so we don't wind up doing it under
- 5:10Speaker 4: a tent in the rain.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah, which is what's going to happen, is all the
- 5:13Speaker 2: glamorous world of rape. You and I were talking off
- 5:16Speaker 2: the air about that, Chris, Oh, the glamorous world of radio.
- 5:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Everybody.
- 5:19Speaker 4: Everybody will say, man, you got the greatest job in
- 5:21Speaker 4: the world. Yes, I do. But you know there's a
- 5:24Speaker 4: price to pay for that. And so you come work
- 5:28Speaker 4: a day on my shoes and see how see how
- 5:30Speaker 4: much you love it at the end of the day.
- 5:32Speaker 2: So you'll have that game tonight. It'll be you and
- 5:34Speaker 2: Aaron Parker. I guess it is okay. And then the
- 5:37Speaker 2: Hoover game tonight on the Superstar Country ninety six one KWS.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Jeff Jenkins and Jim Workman are going to be called
- 5:43Speaker 2: in that game tonight, as Hoover is in action tonight
- 5:46Speaker 2: as well. That game has also been moved up to
- 5:48Speaker 2: six o'clock. From what I understand, they're taking on Weird right,
- 5:51Speaker 2: that'll be at six. Buddy of a buddy of mine
- 5:54Speaker 2: in college went to We're High school and he was
- 5:57Speaker 2: fond of saying we're high normally was oh, Carl upright?
- 6:02Speaker 2: Whatever happened to Carl up Only.
- 6:04Speaker 4: I had that that that brim shots sound effect.
- 6:06Speaker 2: That's what you need there, all right, what you got
- 6:09Speaker 2: on on the Outdoor Show.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Tomorrow, we'll be talking to somebody with the West Virginia
- 6:13Speaker 4: or with the American Heart Association. As hunting season comes up,
- 6:17Speaker 4: they always uh put out the notice that it's important
- 6:21Speaker 4: to know your limitations when you're deer hunting because so
- 6:24Speaker 4: many so Actually, the number one incident of a hunting
- 6:29Speaker 4: accident these days is a hunter over exerting himself and
- 6:32Speaker 4: having a heart attack in the wood. So we will
- 6:34Speaker 4: bring awareness to that tomorrow. And we've got a couple
- 6:36Speaker 4: other things.
- 6:37Speaker 2: So all right, Chris, have a great broadcast tonight in
- 6:40Speaker 2: the rain.
- 6:41Speaker 4: I will endeavor to do that. Hopefully it won't be
- 6:43Speaker 4: in the rain, or hopefully there will be no lightning
- 6:44Speaker 4: or wind and we can just.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Get through it. If the tent goes flying, I'd send
- 6:48Speaker 2: the I'd send the kid after the tent. Yeah, Okay,
- 6:50Speaker 2: he's younger and smaller, so I'm too old. I'm too
- 6:53Speaker 2: old to be chasing tents. Well, the ten belongs to
- 6:55Speaker 2: Nitro High School. Okay, so if the tent goes flying,
- 6:59Speaker 2: you just base just say, well, there goes the tent.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Sorry, there goes the tent. And that's the ball game,
- 7:05Speaker 4: and we're going home, right because yeah, the equipment is
- 7:09Speaker 4: too it's too valuable. All right, it pays my salary, all.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Right, get out of here, all right. Man, Chris Lawrence
- 7:15Speaker 2: again and he and Aaron Parker will have the call
- 7:18Speaker 2: of that Nitro game tonight. And then on Superstar Country
- 7:22Speaker 2: ninety six one k WUS Jeff Jenkins and Jim Workman
- 7:24Speaker 2: will have the call on Nitro, I mean on Hoover
- 7:29Speaker 2: and we are coming up tonight the Dave Alan Show
- 7:31Speaker 2: and five any Live is brought to you a part
- 7:33Speaker 2: by Fresh Air Filters of Tays Valley. Fresh Air is
- 7:35Speaker 2: your trust and filter experts for both your home or
- 7:37Speaker 2: business three zero four four four zero one one zero
- 7:39Speaker 2: four or visit fresh Air Filters dot us because everyone
- 7:42Speaker 2: deserves fresh air. Do you want to remind you going
- 7:44Speaker 2: back to high school football from them? Be sure and
- 7:45Speaker 2: stick around after the game that I Fred pur Singer
- 7:48Speaker 2: and Dave Jacklin will have a Metro News game night
- 7:50Speaker 2: with all the results of the final week of the
- 7:52Speaker 2: regular season of high school football, and of course everybody
- 7:55Speaker 2: will get together this weekend and decide who goes where
- 7:57Speaker 2: for next weekend and we will be home for high
- 8:00Speaker 2: school players. We had a lot of airy teams, so
- 8:02Speaker 2: I'm gonna be making the playoffs. We are excited about that.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Also excited about the seventy five game at Marsh University.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Melmanie Polario from the alumni chapter of Marsh University here
- 8:11Speaker 2: in the Kannahal Valley's going to join us a little
- 8:13Speaker 2: bit later on and later, you know, I'm excited about
- 8:15Speaker 2: Biscuits and Gravy Tomorrow. Biscuits and Gravy Bowl is happening
- 8:19Speaker 2: over at Capital Market and we'll talk to Joanna Romeo
- 8:21Speaker 2: own company about that coming up a little bit later
- 8:24Speaker 2: on in the show. Springing Angie Gildenwater now from the
- 8:27Speaker 2: Gannala Charleston Humane Association with this week's Adopt Me Please
- 8:30Speaker 2: Pet of the Week. Good morning, Welcome to the show.
- 8:34Speaker 7: Good morning, It's finally Friday.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Finally Friday, and you had a little bit of a
- 8:38Speaker 2: road trip last week, right.
- 8:40Speaker 7: I did last Friday morning at about five am, myself
- 8:44Speaker 7: and another employee at Kseyja took off to New Jersey
- 8:47Speaker 7: to get some animals adopted.
- 8:50Speaker 2: So how does that work? And why New Jersey? I mean,
- 8:52Speaker 2: I know that you've gone to other states as well.
- 8:54Speaker 2: What kind of a partnership is that that the local
- 8:57Speaker 2: shelter has with other states? How does that work?
- 9:01Speaker 7: So it's actually with the pet coo in Middletown, New Jersey.
- 9:04Speaker 7: We set up in their store. They essentially have a
- 9:06Speaker 7: small animal shelter in their store, and it's pretty pretty
- 9:11Speaker 7: similar to how we do pet Co adoptions here. You've
- 9:14Speaker 7: heard me talk about cats that are living at the
- 9:16Speaker 7: pet Co pit houses. These ones are really pet Co
- 9:20Speaker 7: pit houses, and we're able to take dogs as well.
- 9:23Speaker 7: So it's just trying to shed some light on some
- 9:26Speaker 7: animals that maybe get passed up in our area but
- 9:28Speaker 7: look unique to people in New Jersey.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Indeed, indeed, all right, we have our picture of our
- 9:33Speaker 2: pet of the week posted on Dave Allen Radio on
- 9:36Speaker 2: Facebook and also the w CHS Network Facebook page at
- 9:39Speaker 2: Dave A seventy on X, Flame Princess, I gotta ask
- 9:43Speaker 2: about the name, Angie. You always have a good story
- 9:45Speaker 2: about the name.
- 9:47Speaker 7: So Flame Princess is actually a character from the cartoon
- 9:51Speaker 7: Adventure Time. If anyone has watched that, she is a
- 9:55Speaker 7: character on there, and she is exactly what her name said.
- 9:58Speaker 7: She is a Flame Princess.
- 10:00Speaker 2: She's a beautiful a beautiful dog. What kind of dog
- 10:01Speaker 2: is she?
- 10:03Speaker 7: I would say she's probably like a bully mix. She's
- 10:06Speaker 7: got those uppy ears, which kind of throw me for
- 10:08Speaker 7: a loop. But she is a pretty peek, petite dog,
- 10:12Speaker 7: so it's hard to say.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Honestly, she's around thirty pounds at about a year old.
- 10:16Speaker 2: That's what you told me.
- 10:18Speaker 7: Yeah, she's just under thirty pounds a year old and
- 10:21Speaker 7: already spade, so she may not get any taller, but
- 10:24Speaker 7: she'll likely since she has been said, she'll probably get
- 10:26Speaker 7: a little rounder.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Well, it happens to the best of us, so I'll
- 10:28Speaker 2: tell you, so go check out the picture. We'll have
- 10:31Speaker 2: more on Flame Princess coming up. You guys out and
- 10:33Speaker 2: about anywhere this weekend, so we are not.
- 10:36Speaker 7: I actually went and talked to the Dunbar Women's Club
- 10:39Speaker 7: last night. I was just talking about the shelter, so
- 10:41Speaker 7: that's the only thing that was planned for this weekend.
- 10:43Speaker 2: All right, how was your talk with the Dunbar Women's Club.
- 10:47Speaker 7: Oh, it was lovely. Everyone there was so nice, and
- 10:50Speaker 7: they had also gathered a lot of donations for us,
- 10:52Speaker 7: which was very very helpful as well. So it was
- 10:55Speaker 7: wonderful and I'm glad I wish.
- 10:57Speaker 2: That's a really interesting point that you bring up about
- 10:59Speaker 2: these organizations, like you know, you mentioned the Dunbar Women's
- 11:02Speaker 2: Club this time, or you know a rotary club somewhere
- 11:04Speaker 2: or whatever, if or a group of high school studs whomever.
- 11:06Speaker 2: If people want to get together as a group and
- 11:10Speaker 2: collect items to be given to the shelter, probably a
- 11:15Speaker 2: good idea to call you first, just so we don't. Yeah,
- 11:19Speaker 2: I mean, there's certain things that you, as you well know,
- 11:21Speaker 2: we could always use at the shelter, but that probably
- 11:23Speaker 2: a good idea to call you and say, hey, here's
- 11:24Speaker 2: what we'd like you to collect.
- 11:25Speaker 7: Right Absolutely, if you want to reach out to me,
- 11:29Speaker 7: I can also come to your organization and talk about
- 11:31Speaker 7: why gathering donations is important, and you know how effective
- 11:35Speaker 7: it is when things come to us, So I would
- 11:38Speaker 7: be happy to come and talk to groups as well,
- 11:40Speaker 7: just about our shelter. At a glimpse, it took me
- 11:43Speaker 7: about thirty minutes to talk to the Dunbar Women's Club
- 11:45Speaker 7: last night and the entire time everyone had a smile
- 11:48Speaker 7: on their face. So if I can help make a
- 11:50Speaker 7: difference for you guys in thirty minutes, then I will
- 11:53Speaker 7: gladly do so.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Talking with Angie gillen Water again for the Can All
- 11:56Speaker 2: Trust Newman Association. So what do you guys I mean,
- 11:58Speaker 2: I know it's kind of a recurring theme. You're generally
- 12:00Speaker 2: speaking needing the same things, but give reminded folks what
- 12:03Speaker 2: you're in need of now as far as donations go,
- 12:06Speaker 2: So it's pretty.
- 12:07Speaker 7: Much the things that we always need. Purina chow products
- 12:09Speaker 7: and cleaning products are big ones right now. Any type
- 12:13Speaker 7: of cleaning products from bleach to gloves, to dishwashing liquid
- 12:17Speaker 7: to laundry detergent, We're going to use all of it.
- 12:20Speaker 7: We have a lot of four hundred and twenty three
- 12:22Speaker 7: animals in the shelter right now, so we are running
- 12:25Speaker 7: through things very very quickly. So cleaning products and Purina
- 12:29Speaker 7: chow are the biggest ones. Keeping everyone fed and keeping
- 12:32Speaker 7: everyone clean.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the that's a motto for life right there.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Speaking of which I saw in your social media Angie
- 12:39Speaker 2: that you guys we're doing some things with some local
- 12:42Speaker 2: law enforcement agency, So he has a lot of good
- 12:45Speaker 2: pictures with a couple of police departments round here, what's
- 12:46Speaker 2: going on there.
- 12:48Speaker 7: So we know that everyone is falling upon hard times
- 12:52Speaker 7: currently with the government shutdown, it's you know, taking away
- 12:55Speaker 7: a lot of benefits for people. So we are partnering
- 12:59Speaker 7: with local agencies and handing out pet food and pet
- 13:02Speaker 7: supplies so that way nobody's pet has to go hungry
- 13:05Speaker 7: during this kind of time of unknown. So if your
- 13:08Speaker 7: pet is hungry, reach out to your local law enforcement
- 13:12Speaker 7: agency or if you have a humane officer in your jurisdiction,
- 13:15Speaker 7: and we can supply food for them. If your humane
- 13:18Speaker 7: officer or law enforcement agency does not have the food
- 13:22Speaker 7: that you need, please come to Kyha. If you live
- 13:24Speaker 7: in Cadaal County, we are also we have a pet
- 13:27Speaker 7: food pantry up there that we do be more than
- 13:28Speaker 7: happy to supply your pets with food.
- 13:30Speaker 2: And that's something that I did not know as long
- 13:32Speaker 2: as you and I have been doing this segment, and
- 13:34Speaker 2: even before you started doing this segment, I've been doing
- 13:36Speaker 2: this segment for five years, I did not know that
- 13:38Speaker 2: you guys had a food pantry for pets.
- 13:41Speaker 7: We do. We actually handed out about twenty thousand pounds
- 13:44Speaker 7: of food last year January one, December thirty first, So
- 13:47Speaker 7: it's pretty successful. And you know, you hear me say
- 13:51Speaker 7: Purina Chow products for the shelter pets. So any type
- 13:53Speaker 7: of food that gets donated that is not a Purina
- 13:56Speaker 7: Pet Chow brand that goes to the food pantry and
- 14:00Speaker 7: and you know is handed back out to the public.
- 14:02Speaker 2: All right, We had a text somebody who wanted to
- 14:04Speaker 2: ask about the River Bank puppy. This was the I
- 14:07Speaker 2: guess last week, Uh that there was a dog that
- 14:11Speaker 2: was found down by the river. It was tied to
- 14:13Speaker 2: a tree. I think.
- 14:14Speaker 8: Uh.
- 14:14Speaker 2: And when I had your your cohort on there last week,
- 14:17Speaker 2: your tag team partner, she talked about it a little bit.
- 14:20Speaker 2: But can you give us an update on that?
- 14:22Speaker 7: Yeah, River is what we never funny.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Enough because that's not going to cause any kind of trauma.
- 14:29Speaker 2: But but but go ahead.
- 14:33Speaker 7: The River has since been adopted and River has started
- 14:37Speaker 7: a new life with a new family. Unfortunately, we are
- 14:40Speaker 7: not able to you know, we don't have any information
- 14:42Speaker 7: currently and some who left River in that position. But
- 14:46Speaker 7: if anyone has any information on that, please reach out
- 14:49Speaker 7: to us or the City of Charleston. Police department to
- 14:52Speaker 7: handle accordingly, but River is on to bigger and better
- 14:56Speaker 7: things currently.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Well, and again, that's an active police investigation right now,
- 15:00Speaker 2: and I hope we find who did it, and I
- 15:01Speaker 2: hope we well, you know, I hope, I hope justice
- 15:06Speaker 2: is served. And I don't want to go into what
- 15:09Speaker 2: I would like to see happened there, because I'd like
- 15:10Speaker 2: to see that person tied to a tree, you know,
- 15:12Speaker 2: for a long amount of time. But they kind of
- 15:14Speaker 2: frown upon that sort of thing. That's why I'm not
- 15:16Speaker 2: in charge. Angie Gillawater, appreciate you and we'll talk again
- 15:20Speaker 2: next week. Thanks a lot. Sounds great week, Angie Gilla
- 15:23Speaker 2: Water can aw Charlest and Humane Association with this week's

- 18:58Speaker 2: game honoring the the folks that perish in that plane
- 19:02Speaker 2: crash back in nineteen seventy. Melanie Polario is the director,
- 19:08Speaker 2: I guess, president, the queen whatever you want to call
- 19:10Speaker 2: her for the Alumni Association of marsh Versus here in
- 19:13Speaker 2: a Kanaul valley and she joins us. Now, good morning, Melanie,
- 19:16Speaker 2: welcome to the show.
- 19:17Speaker 8: Jrny Day. Thank you, thank you for all these titles.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you pick which one you want. You want to
- 19:23Speaker 2: be the Queen, you want to be the executive director,
- 19:25Speaker 2: you want to be the president. What you pick? What
- 19:27Speaker 2: title you want? Melanie?
- 19:29Speaker 8: Well, thank you? But chapter president, chapter President?
- 19:32Speaker 2: All right, all right, all right, So let's talk about
- 19:35Speaker 2: the importance of this game. And you know, we it's
- 19:39Speaker 2: been fifty five years ago, and you know, as a
- 19:44Speaker 2: as a son of Marshall, you know that I am.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I think sometimes with the passing of time and we've
- 19:51Speaker 2: seen it with you know, other great tragedies, people kind
- 19:55Speaker 2: of just put it in their minds, it's the anniversary
- 19:57Speaker 2: and we'll remember and go on, but talk about why
- 20:01Speaker 2: this is so important that this that this remembrance go
- 20:04Speaker 2: on every year at Marshall University.
- 20:06Speaker 8: Well, thank you for that. You know, as a daughter
- 20:09Speaker 8: of Marshall, I think it's something that's that's in our blood.
- 20:13Speaker 8: It's what we grew up with, it's what we know,
- 20:15Speaker 8: and it's a way for us to honor and keep
- 20:20Speaker 8: those memories of lives, lives that were lost during that time.
- 20:24Speaker 8: And so November is a is a time of blessings
- 20:27Speaker 8: and thanksgivings and to show our appreciation. And you know,
- 20:31Speaker 8: it's a great opportunity for us to do that for
- 20:34Speaker 8: the seventy five that perished in that accident. And so
- 20:38Speaker 8: with that we get to have some great things that
- 20:41Speaker 8: go on in campus, and us as chapters get to
- 20:44Speaker 8: participate as well of doing things to making sure that
- 20:48Speaker 8: that that's always talked about and kept in the forefront
- 20:50Speaker 8: and not forgotten.
- 20:51Speaker 2: What sort of things have have you got for the
- 20:53Speaker 2: game tomorrow? I know the university is things, but I'm
- 20:56Speaker 2: talking about just the alumni chapters. What what What's what's
- 20:59Speaker 2: going on with the folks in the other groups.
- 21:01Speaker 8: Tomorrow, well, we're going to the Canal Valley Chapter is
- 21:04Speaker 8: going to be doing some tailgating, so we're going to
- 21:06Speaker 8: have biscuits and beverages as you are having biscuits and
- 21:09Speaker 8: gravy and down there. We'll be at the West lot
- 21:13Speaker 8: on number two eighty nine, So please stop by, and
- 21:16Speaker 8: we've invited all of our not only the alumni from
- 21:20Speaker 8: the Canal Valley Chapter, but the Huntington Chapter, the Beckley
- 21:23Speaker 8: Chapter and anybody that wants to stop by and raise
- 21:26Speaker 8: a glass and share some memories. Is a great way
- 21:29Speaker 8: to do that. So we'll be doing that and then
- 21:33Speaker 8: very excited that next weekend because we're going to be
- 21:36Speaker 8: doing stuff throughout the whole month. So next weekend at
- 21:39Speaker 8: the Marquis Cinema at South Ridge, they're going to be
- 21:42Speaker 8: playing the We Are Marshall movie, which I can't believe
- 21:46Speaker 8: has been the twenty fifth anniversary.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Wow, I mean, it's it's hard to believe it's been
- 21:50Speaker 2: that long since that movie came out and it's still all.
- 21:53Speaker 2: I mean, you can catch it on cable, your streaming services.
- 21:57Speaker 2: What a great what a great film it was, Yes, yep, yep.
- 22:01Speaker 8: So there's tickets available and you can buy them online.
- 22:04Speaker 8: But it'll be shown Friday some Saturday times on Saturday
- 22:08Speaker 8: and Sunday, and if you're not in the Charleston area,
- 22:11Speaker 8: it's could be shown in Huntington and Beckley as well.
- 22:13Speaker 8: So take your family and encourage you to take a
- 22:16Speaker 8: friend who hasn't seen the movie before and experience that together.
- 22:20Speaker 2: You know. And again we're talking to Melody Palario, who
- 22:23Speaker 2: is the chapter president of the marsh University Alumni Association
- 22:26Speaker 2: here in the Kanaal Valley. One of the things that
- 22:28Speaker 2: I think is really interesting that the university does is
- 22:31Speaker 2: when new coaches come in. We have a new athletic director, which,
- 22:34Speaker 2: by the way, Jerald Harrison will be on Metro News
- 22:36Speaker 2: midday later today with us. When new folks come in,
- 22:41Speaker 2: whether it's coaches or administration, or whether it's the players,
- 22:44Speaker 2: and lord knows them, the world college football now everybody's
- 22:47Speaker 2: a new player, no matter what the university is, the
- 22:49Speaker 2: university really goes, Melody, I think above and beyond to
- 22:54Speaker 2: make sure that these newcomers, whether they're the student athletes
- 22:58Speaker 2: or whether they're the coaches, administration, that they know this story.
- 23:01Speaker 2: You know, they go to the cemetery they talk about
- 23:03Speaker 2: the movie. Uh, and it's it's amazing, it really is.
- 23:09Speaker 8: It is, and it's it's very touching to be a
- 23:12Speaker 8: part of that and to be able to carry those
- 23:15Speaker 8: stories and help share and educate. Whether it's a you know,
- 23:19Speaker 8: a freshman coming to school or visiting the campus or
- 23:24Speaker 8: anywhere you go. You know, if you have a Marshall
- 23:27Speaker 8: sweater on or hat or something, they always know about
- 23:29Speaker 8: the movie and the accident, and so it's going to
- 23:33Speaker 8: be a part of something like that.
- 23:34Speaker 2: And here's what I have learned since that movie came
- 23:36Speaker 2: out is that if I'm traveling somewhere on vacation or wherever,
- 23:40Speaker 2: and I have, which I frequently do, I have a
- 23:42Speaker 2: Marshall baseball cap on or a hoodie or something like that,
- 23:45Speaker 2: or a jacket, somebody will come up to me and
- 23:48Speaker 2: say something about it. They'll say, you know, I saw
- 23:51Speaker 2: the movie, and I guess because you know, it was
- 23:54Speaker 2: considered to be the worst tragedy in modern it's certainly
- 23:58Speaker 2: in modern sports history.
- 24:00Speaker 11: Uh.
- 24:01Speaker 2: But they know the story now, and you know, the
- 24:04Speaker 2: news cycle in nineteen seventy wasn't what it is now.
- 24:07Speaker 2: So it was the lead story on the nightly news
- 24:09Speaker 2: and so on and so forth. But maybe people that
- 24:11Speaker 2: live in other areas of the country forgot about it,
- 24:12Speaker 2: but they really didn't, because I mean, I can't tell
- 24:16Speaker 2: you the number of times I can tell you why.
- 24:17Speaker 2: I can tell you one in particular, set a grocery
- 24:19Speaker 2: store in Florida, and I had on a Marshall baseball
- 24:22Speaker 2: cap and a guy in line turns around to me
- 24:24Speaker 2: and said, is that Marshall? And I said yeah, And
- 24:28Speaker 2: uh he said did you go there? And I said yeah,
- 24:29Speaker 2: and he said, uh, Man, I just saw the movie
- 24:32Speaker 2: not long ago, and he said, it really touched me.
- 24:34Speaker 2: It was very nice moments because some people definitely definitely
- 24:38Speaker 2: know the story, even outside West Virginia.
- 24:40Speaker 8: Yeah, it is amazing, and it's a wonderful tribute to
- 24:43Speaker 8: those that Paris and that we can continue to talk
- 24:47Speaker 8: about it and talk about Marshall and what they contributed
- 24:50Speaker 8: and then what those that came after them continued to contribute.
- 24:53Speaker 2: And I have to say I'm a bit of a
- 24:55Speaker 2: uniform purist when it comes to I like you, I like,
- 24:58Speaker 2: I'm not into all these different color or combinations whatever
- 25:01Speaker 2: that pro and college teams do these days. But I
- 25:03Speaker 2: will say those black helmets with the seventy five on
- 25:07Speaker 2: the side. That's they're pretty sweet.
- 25:10Speaker 8: They are, they are very striking. They did a great
- 25:12Speaker 8: job with that need to be commended absolutely. The more
- 25:16Speaker 8: thing is get in is that interesting that when you know,
- 25:20Speaker 8: Walker and I were there in last month talking to
- 25:23Speaker 8: you and one of our projects was going to be
- 25:26Speaker 8: supporting the food pantry. Who realized the situation we would
- 25:29Speaker 8: be in today, and so our chapter has there's a
- 25:33Speaker 8: wish list on our Facebook page that they could go
- 25:36Speaker 8: in and pick some items and send to the food
- 25:38Speaker 8: pantry on campus that support. You know, last week I
- 25:41Speaker 8: think they did a pop up and they supported one
- 25:43Speaker 8: hundred and thirty two students and continue to support students,
- 25:47Speaker 8: and so they want to contribute to the food pantry.
- 25:50Speaker 8: That's our project for the fall that we're doing. Encourage
- 25:53Speaker 8: people to visit our Marshall University Kanaal Valley Chapter Alumni
- 25:57Speaker 8: chapter Facebook page and get that information to make a
- 26:00Speaker 8: donation and.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Join the organization if you haven't already joined the organization.
- 26:05Speaker 2: All right, Melodie, I always appreciate talking to you, and
- 26:08Speaker 2: good luck with everything. God bless you for what you do,
- 26:10Speaker 2: and we'll talk again soon and go hurt, Go hurt.
- 26:13Speaker 8: Thank you very much.
- 26:14Speaker 2: I'm Melanie Palario again from the local chapter of the
- 26:17Speaker 2: Canaw Valley Chapter of the Marshall University Alumni Association. That
- 26:21Speaker 2: seventy five game is tomorrow, and of course she said,
- 26:24Speaker 2: they're going to be showing that we are Marshall movie.
- 26:25Speaker 2: By the way, appreciate a texture for catching something there.
- 26:28Speaker 2: We both aired. Melanie said something and then I went
- 26:32Speaker 2: along with it, and we were both incorrect. It was
- 26:34Speaker 2: actually nineteen years ago that the movie came out, was
- 26:36Speaker 2: back in two thousand and six. So appreciate that text.
- 26:39Speaker 2: And again, it is a special time. And I'm a
- 26:42Speaker 2: little bit biased, I guess because I went to Marshall.
- 26:44Speaker 2: My producer Stephanie and I we're actually at Marshall at
- 26:46Speaker 2: the same time. And you know, when you go to
- 26:48Speaker 2: the fountain ceremony, which I've gone to many many times,
- 26:52Speaker 2: and when the fountains turned off as it is every
- 26:54Speaker 2: November and then turned back on in the spring, and
- 26:56Speaker 2: you know, and the ties from that night eight that
- 27:01Speaker 2: people still even though they may have gone on, they
- 27:05Speaker 2: so many of the family members, many of whom weren't
- 27:08Speaker 2: even born there. I mean, we're talking about this was
- 27:10Speaker 2: their grandparents at Perry'share. It would have been, you know,
- 27:13Speaker 2: somebody of a non call or what they find it
- 27:16Speaker 2: very important to come back to campus, not just for
- 27:22Speaker 2: the game tomorrow, but throughout the month of November. Like
- 27:25Speaker 2: I said, it's a it's a month long remembrance at

- 31:42Speaker 2: and Gravy Baldemark Capital Market. Somebody either one.
- 31:47Speaker 15: Of you, I guess it's it's really similar to the
- 31:50Speaker 15: mac and cheese tasting. It's you buy it. You buy
- 31:53Speaker 15: a ticket or a wristband, you come in. We have
- 31:56Speaker 15: fifteen vendors that will be there set up to get
- 32:00Speaker 15: a tasting of various types of biscuits and gravy and
- 32:04Speaker 15: other biscuits or breakfast items and you'll be able to
- 32:08Speaker 15: vote on your favorite.
- 32:10Speaker 2: And so the thing about the you know, and we
- 32:14Speaker 2: talked about this with the biscuits and gravy thing. I mean,
- 32:16Speaker 2: it seems like such a simple food. It's a comfort food,
- 32:19Speaker 2: but there's so many different ways to make it. And
- 32:21Speaker 2: that's what's that's one of the things that amazed me.
- 32:23Speaker 2: And look, I've eaten my I'm from Logan, Okay, I've
- 32:26Speaker 2: eaten my fair share of biscuits and gravy over the years.
- 32:29Speaker 2: But but it was interesting to me unast year the
- 32:32Speaker 2: different variety, kind of like you mentioned the mac and cheese.
- 32:34Speaker 2: I did the mac and Cheese festival last week too
- 32:36Speaker 2: at Capital Market, and it was interesting to me that
- 32:38Speaker 2: everybody's different take on it.
- 32:40Speaker 15: Everything's different, I mean each it can be just a
- 32:43Speaker 15: subtle difference or it can be a significant difference. But
- 32:46Speaker 15: the tastes are so so different. And you might think, well,
- 32:51Speaker 15: it's okay, it's biscuits and gravy, but everyone is different. Yeah,
- 32:55Speaker 15: there's you know now the two alike.
- 32:58Speaker 14: Yeah, and the biscuits matter too. I think it's got
- 33:00Speaker 14: to be a very good biscuit.
- 33:02Speaker 2: So what makes a good biscuit.
- 33:03Speaker 14: Not too dry? A little bit of butter in it.
- 33:06Speaker 2: A little bit, yeah, the gravy for a lot, yeah yeah, yeah.
- 33:10Speaker 2: And this is a fundraiser and talk about where the
- 33:13Speaker 2: funds go.
- 33:14Speaker 15: So at Southwrist Church, you know, one of our one
- 33:17Speaker 15: of our visions is to be a church that our
- 33:21Speaker 15: community can't live without. And in doing that, we work
- 33:23Speaker 15: with a number of outreach areas and provide and facilitate
- 33:28Speaker 15: various programs. We work with the Women's Addiction Recovery Center
- 33:31Speaker 15: in Charleston. We do a lot with those folks. Uh,
- 33:34Speaker 15: and we'll actually have some ladies from the recovery center
- 33:36Speaker 15: there voluntary working with us tomorrow. We also do what
- 33:41Speaker 15: we call impact schools where we provide food for the
- 33:45Speaker 15: Christmas break where a lot of families when the kids,
- 33:49Speaker 15: the kids get their primary meals at school and so
- 33:52Speaker 15: during the Christmas break, they may not have the food
- 33:55Speaker 15: at home. So we provide food to have meals for
- 33:59Speaker 15: two weeks while they're off. And we're doing that for
- 34:02Speaker 15: at least one hundred and twenty five families.
- 34:04Speaker 2: And that's more important now, I mean than that it's
- 34:07Speaker 2: ever been.
- 34:08Speaker 15: We also partner Another important area is the Bread of
- 34:12Speaker 15: Life food pantry in south Ridge that we partner with
- 34:16Speaker 15: Davis Creek Nazarie, And you know, we've seen that grow
- 34:20Speaker 15: from just a few years ago about thirty families a
- 34:23Speaker 15: week through now we're probably approaching eighty a week, so
- 34:27Speaker 15: we're seeing that grow.
- 34:28Speaker 14: And we're also helping out with the UC football team
- 34:30Speaker 14: this evening. Actually, so what are.
- 34:31Speaker 2: You doing in the seating with them?
- 34:33Speaker 15: We seed the football team the Friday nights or the
- 34:36Speaker 15: night before their home games, so we're what's on the
- 34:38Speaker 15: menu tonight is smoke turkey, mac and cheese, green beans,
- 34:43Speaker 15: fresh bread cupcakes.
- 34:45Speaker 2: So anybody like could just drive by me? Is that
- 34:48Speaker 2: what you're saying?
- 34:49Speaker 11: Can come on?
- 34:50Speaker 15: You want to meet the guys. We're also looking to
- 34:54Speaker 15: expand that to to try to do something for each
- 34:58Speaker 15: of the sports teams at the school.
- 35:00Speaker 2: So okay, well that's good stuff. Again, we're talking with
- 35:03Speaker 2: Atomac Bay and Join a Romeo about the biscuits and
- 35:06Speaker 2: gravy bo Second year? Is that right?
- 35:07Speaker 14: Second eight?
- 35:07Speaker 2: Second year? And so how many have you got so far? Didn't?
- 35:11Speaker 14: So far? In pre sales, we have eighty already and
- 35:14Speaker 14: you have till three pm today to get the discount
- 35:16Speaker 14: of price at pre sale and then tomorrow. You'll just
- 35:18Speaker 14: have to get it at registration.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Okay, how many different gravy biscuits and gravy combos do
- 35:22Speaker 2: you have?
- 35:23Speaker 14: I think thirteen out of the fifteen are all biscuits
- 35:25Speaker 14: and gravy.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Okay, yes, is one of the other two.
- 35:27Speaker 14: So one is the Maple or Sausage Maple Square and
- 35:30Speaker 14: then Chick fil A, The Bring.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Charlst the Dirty Birds, the Selango Law Light the Night

- 36:49Speaker 11: always remains consistent is the car buying experience at Walker
- 36:53Speaker 11: Chevrolet in Nitro. You see, that's because Gene and Ryan

- 37:24Speaker 11: that remain consistent and that some car dealers still believe

- 42:42Speaker 2: will be handling that. TJ. Meadows is going to stop by.
- 42:45Speaker 2: He dropped a new commentary and we have a story
- 42:47Speaker 2: post at WV Metro News dot com. You can also
- 42:50Speaker 2: read the commentaries there that Rohan County. This has been
- 42:54Speaker 2: kind of a back and forth. They voted to consolidate
- 42:59Speaker 2: the school board life I voted to consolidate a couple
- 43:02Speaker 2: of schools there and some parents not happy about it.
- 43:06Speaker 2: As you may imagine. We've seen it here in Kanawha County,
- 43:09Speaker 2: seen it in other counties as well. So we had
- 43:11Speaker 2: a couple of parents on Metro News Midday as a
- 43:13Speaker 2: matter of fact, but sometimes it's economics and the issue
- 43:18Speaker 2: seems to be more with the school aid formula than
- 43:20Speaker 2: anything else. So we are going to talk to TJ.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Meadows about his commentary that he wrote about that, and
- 43:25Speaker 2: again you can read the story about the Roan County
- 43:27Speaker 2: meeting last night at wv metronews dot com. Also check
- 43:30Speaker 2: out TJ. Meadows story on there as well. Jeff Jenkins
- 43:32Speaker 2: will stop by with the news. We are going to
- 43:35Speaker 2: go live today to Morgantown where our stations up there
- 43:38Speaker 2: are doing this big food drive. They actually started it
- 43:41Speaker 2: at six this morning and it's a kind of a
- 43:45Speaker 2: collaborative effort with the United Way of Montagelia and Preston Counties.
- 43:49Speaker 2: All of our stations up there, VAQ KKWA JR stations
- 43:54Speaker 2: out of our Morgantown cluster stations have been out on

- 44:02Speaker 2: to them about that. Also, we mentioned earlier in talking
- 44:05Speaker 2: to Melanie Palario from the Marsh University Alumni Association here
- 44:09Speaker 2: in the Kanaal Valley, the seventy five game is tomorrow
- 44:12Speaker 2: at the Jon in Huntington, Marshall and Marshall a d
- 44:16Speaker 2: I should say, the athletic director there. The new guy,
- 44:18Speaker 2: Gerald Harrison is going to join me, and of course

- 44:37Speaker 2: activities and former Charleston Mayor Danny Jones. We'll stop by
- 44:40Speaker 2: as well. And how about those new seats at the
- 44:45Speaker 2: Coddleseauman Convention Center Center. We have a story posted about
- 44:48Speaker 2: at wv metronews dot com. They had the unveiling of those.
- 44:50Speaker 2: So if you go to a concert, you go to
- 44:52Speaker 2: the state basketball tournament, whatever you're going to be doing
- 44:54Speaker 2: at the Coddle Seeum and Convention Center, those old multi
- 44:57Speaker 2: color Mike Brady from the Brady Much inspired seats at
- 45:01Speaker 2: the Coddle seven Convincement Center are no more. This is
- 45:05Speaker 2: not hyperbotly, this is the truth. It was actually somebody's
- 45:08Speaker 2: job to keep up with this, they removed fifteen pounds
- 45:14Speaker 2: of chewing gum from under those seats. Fifteen pounds. Now
- 45:19Speaker 2: you think about a piece of chewing gum, probably doesn't
- 45:22Speaker 2: weigh all that much. Fifteen pounds of chewing gum. It's
- 45:26Speaker 2: a five point two million dollar renovation for the It's
- 45:29Speaker 2: highlighted about the new seats, but it's not just the
- 45:31Speaker 2: new seats. There's a lot more to it than that.
- 45:33Speaker 2: So we got a story posted about it at at
- 45:35Speaker 2: wv metronews dot com. Also quickly, want to remind you
- 45:38Speaker 2: and I we're going to bring TJ. Meadows in here
- 45:40Speaker 2: to talk about talk line today. You know, our food
- 45:42Speaker 2: banks are really really working hard right now with the
- 45:46Speaker 2: government shut down, and you can donate if you go
- 45:50Speaker 2: to our website wv metro News dot com. There's a
- 45:52Speaker 2: QR code there and you can donate to Facing Hunger
- 45:55Speaker 2: or the Mountaineer Food Banks, either one simply by going
- 45:57Speaker 2: to the wv metronews dot com simple QR code, take

- 46:02Speaker 2: do that. WVRC Media, of course cares about the community. TJ.
- 46:05Speaker 2: Meadows is coming up with talk line. He and mister
- 46:08Speaker 2: Wilson how you doing man? How much of that gum
- 46:10Speaker 2: did you put there? I swallowed my gum? So you really?
- 46:15Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I always have you swallow your gum. Yeah
- 46:19Speaker 2: that's not good man. Well it's I'm fifty five. It's
- 46:22Speaker 2: too late to stop now. I've always swallowed gum all
- 46:26Speaker 2: the It goes back to I guess when I was
- 46:28Speaker 2: in school, when they would say, you know, Dave, are
- 46:30Speaker 2: you chewing up?
- 46:32Speaker 12: No?
- 46:33Speaker 5: No, good for you. I couldn't do that. I don't
- 46:37Speaker 5: know something about I just said, I'm not going.
- 46:38Speaker 2: To do that. I'm a weird guy. Teacher, You're unique.
- 46:43Speaker 2: I could tell you. I could. I can tell you
- 46:44Speaker 2: things I could tell you. I blew Dave Weekly's mind
- 46:48Speaker 2: a couple of months ago. I had him on the
- 46:51Speaker 2: air doing our little cross talk segment there and uh I,
- 46:53Speaker 2: somehow the subject of of shrimp tales came up, and
- 46:59Speaker 2: I said, I eat the whole thing. I ate the
- 47:01Speaker 2: tales in all. I mean, why would you why that's
- 47:03Speaker 2: what they make diet pills out of out here tilS?
- 47:06Speaker 2: Why would you not? I also eat the peanut shells too,
- 47:09Speaker 2: cancels out the calories there you peanuts shells? Jeez, what
- 47:13Speaker 2: can I say, all right, what you got on the
- 47:15Speaker 2: show to day man? So coming up?
- 47:17Speaker 5: Of course, it's eleven thirty today at Steam Release, right,
- 47:20Speaker 5: it's Friday. Chris Steierwaldt joins us, We're going to try
- 47:22Speaker 5: to make sense at eleven oh six of everything that's
- 47:25Speaker 5: went on this week. How important were these elections? Were
- 47:28Speaker 5: there other variables in Virginia, New Jersey, these blue states
- 47:31Speaker 5: because you know what, news flash, blue states vote blue,
- 47:35Speaker 5: but all of these other variables, right, You had a
- 47:39Speaker 5: socialist elected in New York City. You had these text
- 47:42Speaker 5: messages going back and forth in Virginia which people didn't
- 47:45Speaker 5: seem to care about. But you also had a lot
- 47:47Speaker 5: of government workers who haven't worked. Maybe they were voting
- 47:49Speaker 5: against that. Some of the other states though, Georgia and
- 47:52Speaker 5: the others. You know, what does it all mean and
- 47:54Speaker 5: what if any really matter? If anything?
- 47:56Speaker 2: So, I don't know what it means a whole lot
- 47:58Speaker 2: to West Virginia. And I'll say this, I've been called
- 48:02Speaker 2: to the carpet is you probably have two a couple
- 48:03Speaker 2: of times because I've talked about this, and I've talked
- 48:05Speaker 2: about some of those areas in some of these states
- 48:08Speaker 2: that that went blue. Yeah, and people have said I
- 48:12Speaker 2: got called fake news for saying that. That's that's very true.
- 48:15Speaker 2: Some of those counties that were red counties voted blue.
- 48:18Speaker 2: I got called out. That's a that's a fact. Yeah,
- 48:21Speaker 2: that's people from Atlanta. I mean these counties are nowhere
- 48:23Speaker 2: near nowhere in Atlanta, nowhere, So you can't tell me
- 48:26Speaker 2: it's an urban thing that far. George is talking Gwinnette
- 48:29Speaker 2: County here people, I'm talking North Georgia, South Georgia. You
- 48:32Speaker 2: know these areas that are rural areas. Uh that traditionally
- 48:36Speaker 2: a few of them, not all, but but some that
- 48:38Speaker 2: have traditionally voted red. Yeah, one the other way.
- 48:41Speaker 5: Craig Blair, former President of the Senate here in the
- 48:44Speaker 5: Great State, joins us at ten oh six. Christy Martin
- 48:47Speaker 5: remember heard you know she throws that mean fist. Got
- 48:50Speaker 5: her on the show right in Mullins, West Virginia.
- 48:52Speaker 2: She would kill me. She's got a new movie coming out,
- 48:54Speaker 2: Sidney Sweeney's playing her. So we're definitely looking looking forward
- 48:57Speaker 2: to going to see that. I might, I might, isn't
- 48:59Speaker 2: this weekend? I think it is all right. I gotta go.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Stephanie's pulling the plug. See you later. Today till then
- 49:04Speaker 2: have fun to love somebody
