- 0:00Speaker 1: Right, let's turn our attention into sale GP because it's
- 0:03Speaker 1: coming to Auckland. The schedule for racing next year has
- 0:06Speaker 1: been announced. The season will start and do Bay before
- 0:08Speaker 1: heading to Auckland. It follows the news at the league
- 0:11Speaker 1: withdrew from a hosting agreement that would have seen it
- 0:13Speaker 1: take place in christ Church again. Richard Gladwell is the
- 0:17Speaker 1: Sale World New Zealand editor and he's with me now. Richard,
- 0:20Speaker 1: good morning to you, tell you good, thank you, great
- 0:24Speaker 1: news for Aucklanders. Anything to do with the dolphins.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Oh well, thanks everything to do with the dolphins, and
- 0:32Speaker 2: you know Russell Coosters wasn't prepared to go down there
- 0:37Speaker 2: again after the last time. I think they just can't
- 0:39Speaker 2: losing in a whole day because someone sees the dolphins
- 0:43Speaker 2: swing around the course. So yeah, it's all to do
- 0:46Speaker 2: with that. But I think also there was also an
- 0:48Speaker 2: agreement in there in place that Auckland would have two
- 0:52Speaker 2: sale GP events in four years and christ Church would
- 0:56Speaker 2: have had two. So christ Church have had the two,
- 0:59Speaker 2: So hope for the orkand are about to get there too, right.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Do you think the council is paying anything for this?
- 1:04Speaker 1: Is there any backhanders that go on with CELGP.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Oh no, there's I mean NBA are upfront about it.
- 1:12Speaker 2: You go onto their website, they've listed down for a
- 1:15Speaker 2: gatson they say the five point four million dollar events.
- 1:21Speaker 2: So I assume that the Auckland Council isn't paying anything. However,
- 1:25Speaker 2: they will be paying, you know, in kind from a
- 1:28Speaker 2: lot of things. And they after that announcement, they've come
- 1:33Speaker 2: out and said that they're looking at when You're Point,
- 1:36Speaker 2: which is the venue that caused all the cafuffle last time.
- 1:40Speaker 2: So hopefully everyone's got their ducks in a row of that.
- 1:43Speaker 1: That's right. So where will we watch it from? Can
- 1:46Speaker 1: we watch it because that was the problem last time.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Well, yeah, there's plenty of I mean I haven't been
- 1:52Speaker 2: a Winyard Point lately, but when I was last year,
- 1:55Speaker 2: they still had it, you know, getting those gases out
- 1:59Speaker 2: of the ground and really those from the sled fuel
- 2:02Speaker 2: tanks and substance tanks. So people will be down there
- 2:05Speaker 2: on Winyard Point. There's plenty of advantage places around west
- 2:10Speaker 2: Haven and that sort of thing. You can also probably
- 2:13Speaker 2: watch it a bit of it from the shore from
- 2:15Speaker 2: North Cape Point. Yes that's surrounded. But the other thing
- 2:19Speaker 2: to remember too, is sort of mean. There's a lot
- 2:21Speaker 2: of facilities down there that were done for America's Cups
- 2:24Speaker 2: that are you know, they're open and used, but they're
- 2:28Speaker 2: they certainly don't get heavy use. So I think it'll
- 2:32Speaker 2: be a great vantage point down there.
- 2:33Speaker 1: So you're confident that that we've got enough infrastructure there
- 2:36Speaker 1: already to actually host this event and to host it
- 2:39Speaker 1: on time, because I mean it's coming. It's around the corner,
- 2:41Speaker 1: isn't it.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Well, yeah, all they've got all the saying all accounts
- 2:45Speaker 2: will have to do is they've just got to essentially
- 2:47Speaker 2: put that winyard point down and tarmac in the same
- 2:51Speaker 2: way that they've done it around you know, Team New
- 2:53Speaker 2: Zealand and further back towards the city. So once they've
- 2:58Speaker 2: got that area, they're a hard stand team just comes
- 3:00Speaker 2: in and puts all their support basis and that sort
- 3:05Speaker 2: of thing. And they're a big feature of sal GP
- 3:09Speaker 2: as what they call the Adrenaline Lounge. So that's a
- 3:12Speaker 2: real VIP hospitality area and that goes right hard on
- 3:16Speaker 2: the water's edge. Then they have the boats finishing you know,
- 3:20Speaker 2: off that, so they're so close that you can know
- 3:23Speaker 2: virtually touch them. In fact, on the last two or
- 3:25Speaker 2: three Salgpens events. Having that finish line so close to
- 3:31Speaker 2: a seawall has caused a few kurefuffles. To say the least, it.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Sounds like the place I'm going to be down at
- 3:37Speaker 1: the Adrenaline Lounge. Thank you very much for the time
- 3:39Speaker 1: this morning, appreciate it. Exciting is that the sale GP
- 3:43Speaker 1: is coming to tomaky Makoto. That's really glad well with
