topics dealt with on the portal. I'm with the
• 1:16
journalist Enzo Mauri, who introduces today's
• 1:20
topic. of 1961, the film received ten nominations
• 1:42
and won five awards, including best film, best
• 1:45
director and best screenwriter. This despite
• 1:48
the scandal due to the delicate topic touched,
• 1:51
adultery. Written with four hands by the screenwriter
• 2:06
Yael Diamond, the idea of the apartment was
• 2:09
born from the director's obstinacy to make a
• 2:11
new film with Jack Lemmon. It all happened after
• 2:14
the success of A Qualcuno Piace Caldo, which
• 2:16
saw among the protagonists none other than Marilyn
• 2:19
Monroe. It is to be asked why for the apartment
• 2:21
Billy Wilder preferred the very good Shirley
• 2:24
MacLaine, as a female protagonist, instead of
• 2:28
Monroe. Perhaps because at the same time the
• 2:30
blonde actress was engaged in the reenactments
• 2:32
of Let's Make Love together with the The plot
• 2:35
follows the story of Sissy Bud Baxter, the actor
• 2:38
Jack Lemmon, a lonely insurance employee who
• 2:41
tries to scale the corporate hierarchy, leaving
• 2:44
his old colleagues the use of his apartment for
• 2:47
extra -marital encounters. In the meantime, Bud
• 2:49
falls in love with Fran Kubelik, the actress
• 2:51
Shirley MacLaine, an elevator operator who discovers
• 2:54
herself involved with the head of staff at the
• 2:57
company, Jeff Sheldrake, the actor Fred McMurray.

MCL Associated Lawyers www .lexmcl .it Note that,
• 3:24
despite being nominated, none of the three protagonists,
• 3:26
including Jack Krashen, in the role of Dr. David
• 3:29
Dreyfuss, judged the precious statue. The apartment
• 3:33
was the subject of some scenes and also of a
• 3:35
curious incident that happened on set. The set
• 3:38
designer, Alexander Trauner, used the forced
• 3:41
perspective to create the office environment
• 3:43
of a large insurance company. The set appeared
• 4:02
like a very long room full of desk employees,
• 4:05
however those in the background were smaller,
• 4:07
occupied by lower actors and even by children.
• 4:11
Baxter's apartment was set up so that it appeared
• 4:13
smaller and cramped than the spacious ones that
• 4:16
were usually present in the films of the time.
• 4:21
He bought her some napkins. So it's worth redeeming
• 4:23
yourself. You see, I lived like Robinson Crusoe.
• 4:29
In short, like a shipwreck between 8 million
• 4:31
people. Then one day I saw Norma on the sand
• 4:34
and I found her. For the setting, objects from
• 4:39
used shops and even some Billy Wilder furniture
• 4:43
were used. In a scene, Sissy Baxter receives
• 4:44
a punch from Carl Matuska, the actor Johnny Seven,
• 4:48
brother -in -law of Frank Kubelik. Well, according
• 4:50
to the script, the protagonist should have dodged
• 4:53
it while he received it for real. That's why
• 4:55
Billy Wilder decided that scene was good. Another
• 4:59
scene, among the most remembered of the film,
• 5:01
is the one in which Sissy Baxter spills spaghetti
• 5:03
in her kitchen with a racket from tennis. The
• 5:07
film gave inspiration for the 1968 Broadway musical
• 5:10
Promises Promises. In 1994 the apartment was
• 5:15
included in the National Film Registry of the
• 5:18
United States Congress Library. The film has
• 5:21
become a classic of American cinema. Its ability
• 5:24
to mix humor, romanticism and drama makes it
• 5:27
a work that continues to be appreciated and studied
• 5:29
