- 0:04Speaker 1: Ark by David Cory. The storm. By noon of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: next day, Captain Noah reported that the pain was dry
- 0:13Speaker 1: and the ark ready to set sail. We must get
- 0:16Speaker 1: the animals together, he said, looking anxiously about. I can't
- 0:20Speaker 1: imagine where they have all gone to. Well, I'll have
- 0:23Speaker 1: everything packed and ready to put aboard by the time
- 0:26Speaker 1: you round up your passengers, laughed Missus Noah, who never
- 0:29Speaker 1: seemed to worry about anything, and Marjorie thought she was
- 0:33Speaker 1: the nicest person she had ever met. Come, boys, commanded
- 0:37Speaker 1: Captain Noah. Let's start the hunt. I hope the island
- 0:40Speaker 1: isn't large, for I don't fancy walking many miles in
- 0:43Speaker 1: this hot climate. So they all started off, mister Jonah
- 0:47Speaker 1: and the three Noah boys following Captain Noah, and after
- 0:51Speaker 1: walking for some time, they came to the top of
- 0:54Speaker 1: a hill from which they had a good view of
- 0:56Speaker 1: the island, and not very far away were all the animals,
- 1:00Speaker 1: enjoying themselves to their hearts content. Captain Noah took his
- 1:04Speaker 1: bugle and blew a long blast, and at once all
- 1:07Speaker 1: the animals looked around. Then he blew again, and after
- 1:12Speaker 1: that the animals formed in line with the elephant at
- 1:14Speaker 1: their head and marched toward them. When they reached the ark,
- 1:18Speaker 1: the gangplank was lowered and they all marched aboard. Everything
- 1:22Speaker 1: below decks was in apple pie order, and the animals
- 1:25Speaker 1: all seemed glad to be once more back in the ark.
- 1:29Speaker 1: All's well, that ends well, said Captain Noah, turning to
- 1:32Speaker 1: mister Jonah. My duty is to land these animals safely
- 1:36Speaker 1: after the rain is over. But it looks to me
- 1:38Speaker 1: as if it were going to commence again. There's a
- 1:41Speaker 1: big black cloud in the west, shouted the weather cock,
- 1:45Speaker 1: who had flown up to his perch on the fire
- 1:47Speaker 1: pole and was keeping a sharp lookout. Yes, I guess
- 1:50Speaker 1: we're going to have some nasty weather, said Captain Noah.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Let us hurry and get the ark afloat. In a
- 1:57Speaker 1: few minutes, the great boat was in motion, and after
- 2:00Speaker 1: a short run down to the water, it once more
- 2:03Speaker 1: rode the waves. You'd better come down to the cabin,
- 2:06Speaker 1: Captain Noah called out to the weather cock, as a
- 2:09Speaker 1: flash of lightning passed across the sky. We're going to
- 2:12Speaker 1: have a storm and you may be blown off your perch.
- 2:16Speaker 1: So the weather cock came down and perched on his shoulder,
- 2:19Speaker 1: and then he began to sing. Oh. The animals came
- 2:23Speaker 1: into the ark. The little dog with a bow wow bark.
- 2:26Speaker 1: The lion gave a kingly roar, and the monkey shook
- 2:30Speaker 1: the rat by the paw, and the mule cow said moo,
- 2:33Speaker 1: and the rooster sang cock a doo. Well, it didn't
- 2:36Speaker 1: take long for Captain Noah and his crew to make
- 2:39Speaker 1: everything snug and tight. But oh, dear me, how the
- 2:43Speaker 1: thunder roared and the lightning flashed. But in spite of
- 2:47Speaker 1: all this, Marjorie grew so sleepy that pretty soon she
- 2:50Speaker 1: went up to her little cabin with a dove on
- 2:53Speaker 1: her shoulder, and crept into bed. And then something strange happened.
- 2:58Speaker 1: The weather cock, although he had hopped into the cabin
- 3:01Speaker 1: to escape the storm, went out on deck every now
- 3:04Speaker 1: and then to look about him, so as to report
- 3:06Speaker 1: to Captain Noah the whereabouts of the ark. He didn't
- 3:09Speaker 1: seem to mind the storm, for a weathercock is used
- 3:12Speaker 1: to all sorts of weather and knows just from what
- 3:15Speaker 1: quarter the wind is blowing, you know, about midnight, after
- 3:20Speaker 1: coming in from deck, he hopped up to Little Marger's
- 3:23Speaker 1: cabin and knocked on the door, But she was so
- 3:26Speaker 1: fast asleep she didn't hear him. And if it hadn't
- 3:29Speaker 1: been for the dove, who was a very light sleeper,
- 3:32Speaker 1: I don't believe the weathercock would ever have been able
- 3:35Speaker 1: to tell Marjorie this strange thing that had happened. But
- 3:39Speaker 1: just as soon as the old dove heard the knocking,
- 3:41Speaker 1: she flew down from her cage and opened the door,
- 3:44Speaker 1: And after the weathercock had whispered to her, she went
- 3:47Speaker 1: over to where Marjorie lay sound asleep in her berth.
- 3:51Speaker 1: And just then the yard grated on something and came
- 3:54Speaker 1: to a stand still. But so gradually did the great
- 3:56Speaker 1: boat stop that Captain Noah, who was hall so sound asleep,
- 4:01Speaker 1: did not even move in his berth. Wake little Marjorie,
- 4:05Speaker 1: whispered the weather cock, And then the little white bird
- 4:08Speaker 1: leaned over the pillow and sang, in a low voice,
- 4:11Speaker 1: wake up, Wake up, Marjorie, dear, Come to the window.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Your home is quite nearer. See we are landed upon
- 4:19Speaker 1: your own roof, just outside your bedroom. Come here is
- 4:24Speaker 1: the proof. All lift up the curtain. There's your little
- 4:27Speaker 1: bed with a cozy white pillow and cover of red.
- 4:32Speaker 1: What is it where am i asked Marjorie, opening her eyes, Come,
- 4:37Speaker 1: said the weather cock, follow me dreamily. She got up
- 4:40Speaker 1: and followed him to the window. Opposite was her own
- 4:43Speaker 1: little bedroom window. Step over, carefully, whispered the weather cock,
- 4:48Speaker 1: While the dove took her by the hand. Marjorie stepped
- 4:52Speaker 1: across the open space and entered her bedroom. Then she
- 4:55Speaker 1: walked over to her own little bed and crept inside.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Go to sleep, whispered the weather cock. See you in
- 5:02Speaker 1: the morning, cud the dove, and with a gentle flutter,
- 5:06Speaker 1: they disappeared through the window. Indistinctly, Marjorie heard the arc
- 5:10Speaker 1: cast away from the window sill, and the voice of
- 5:13Speaker 1: Captain Noah came faintly to her ears. Careful, now we
- 5:18Speaker 1: must slip in through the nursery window without waking the household.
- 5:22Speaker 1: As that Noah's ark slowly drifted in through the nursery window,
- 5:26Speaker 1: Captain Noah ran forward with a hawser, ready to make
- 5:29Speaker 1: fast to the bookcase near the big table. Well well,
- 5:33Speaker 1: he exclaimed, it is nice to be home again. It
- 5:36Speaker 1: certainly is, said Missus Noah, as she and the three
- 5:40Speaker 1: boys came out on deck it is wonderful that the
- 5:43Speaker 1: water has done no damage to Marjorie's pretty nursery. See
- 5:47Speaker 1: how fast it is running away, exclaimed ham Lucky. We
- 5:50Speaker 1: sailed home to night. Just then mister Noah looked at
- 5:54Speaker 1: the bookcase. Gee hosa fat, he exclaimed, See that book
- 6:00Speaker 1: the Cruise of the Noah's Ark. Why there is my
- 6:03Speaker 1: picture on the cover? Look, look, shouted Geppeth. There are
- 6:09Speaker 1: more books in the series of Little Journeys to Happy Land,
- 6:13Speaker 1: so there are laughed Missus Noah. I would like to
- 6:16Speaker 1: read the Iceberg Express. That sounds interesting. I think a
- 6:21Speaker 1: little journey to Happy Land in the Magic Soap Bubble
- 6:24Speaker 1: would be some trip, exclaimed sheam. Time for bed, suddenly,
- 6:29Speaker 1: exclaimed Captain Noah. I am going to turn out all
- 6:32Speaker 1: the lights on the Noah's Ark, no time to night
- 6:35Speaker 1: for you to read these other books in this series.
- 6:38Speaker 1: And with these words, he turned out the red light
- 6:41Speaker 1: on the port side of the Ark and the green
- 6:43Speaker 1: light on the starboard side, and with a sigh of relief, added,
- 6:48Speaker 1: thank goodness, all the animals are well, and Marjory upstairs
- 6:51Speaker 1: asleep in her little bed, and the old Noah's Ark
- 6:54Speaker 1: back safe in the nursery. As Captain Noah ceased speaking,
- 6:59Speaker 1: the weathercock fled, uttered off the ark and over to
- 7:01Speaker 1: the nursery window. Pausing a moment on the sill, he
- 7:05Speaker 1: turned for one last look, and then flew straight away
- 7:09Speaker 1: for Uncle Spencer's barn. Home again, he chuckled, who'd have
- 7:14Speaker 1: thought I'd ever be a pilot on the deep blue Sea?
