- 0:51it up [ __ ] beautifully. On the heels
- 0:54of that,
- 0:55>> [laughter]
- 0:56>> maybe
- 0:58to heat have Low Z try and correct Cam
- 1:01is unreal. Last Last night, I needed the
- 1:05FBI to [ __ ] decode the text message
- 1:08that came in from Low
- 1:09>> it makes all the sense in the world. No,
- 1:11it doesn't. You just got to read between
- 1:12the lines,
- 1:14>> [laughter]
- 1:14>> the audio READ BETWEEN THE LINES.
- 1:16>> IT TOOK IT TOOK my buddy at the FBI 3
- 1:19hours to figure out what the full text
- 1:20was.
- 1:21>> And then I even then I came back in
- 1:23voice recorder and you still were dead
- 1:26No, it wasn't worse. Few voice recorder
- 1:28texts
- 1:28>> I'll do texts
- 1:29>> text to talk. Yeah. Text to talk. Siri
- 1:32does not respect my Canadian accent.
- 1:34>> like you.
- 1:35>> She does not
- 1:35respect me at all.
- 1:37>> Is it I was more confused by the end of
- 1:38the text than before I even read it.
- 1:40>> Yeah, me too.
- 1:41Siri's been listening to you for a
- 1:43while.
- 1:43>> Thank you. Mission accomplished.
- 1:44>> [laughter]
- 1:45>> Mission accomplished. You text with the
- 1:46whole fist?
- 1:49>> WHAT'S GOING ON, BABY?
- 1:51>> Halloween [laughter] around the corner.
- 1:54>> People don't go to your house for
- 1:55Halloween, do they, Twist?
- 1:56>> No, it's That would be kind of like
- 1:57going
- 1:58>> have.
- 1:58>> Well, and never they never came back. I
- 2:00mean, there's a mile down the driveway.
- 2:03There's no no lights. It's probably not
- 2:05the spot you're going to find the kids
- 2:06Halloween.
- 2:07>> I can't imagine rolling up to your house
- 2:08because you have beautiful house by the
- 2:10way. I love your your property, your
- 2:11land, everything's great. But it is out
- 2:13there. And the driveway is I don't know
- 2:16how 100 yards long
- 2:17>> 300
- 2:18>> 300 yards long Imagine walking down that
- 2:20driveway in the pitch black
- 2:22>> Oh man.
- 2:22>> as you see a yeti in the woods, a
- 2:24dinosaur
- 2:25>> Yes. Yes. [laughter]
- 2:26>> For maybe a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.
- 2:29>> What?
- 2:30>> And the the mini size, too, you know.
- 2:32>> [laughter]
- 2:33>> And you go in your garage
- 2:34>> He's a big candy bar guy.
- 2:35>> BUT HE LOOKS FRIENDLY. He looks
- 2:36friendly. No, we're good.
- 2:37>> No. No.
- 2:38>> He's got chainsaw
- 2:39>> him on his bike. You don't want to mess
- 2:41with that. Stay away.
- 2:43>> Oh boy.
- 2:44>> What's that?
- 2:45>> I wanted you to try this on cuz I
- 2:46thought this would be a good good good
- 2:48Halloween
- 2:49costume piece for you that
- 2:51Just slide that dude you
- 2:53>> So [laughter] we
- 2:55I I see it. I see a resemblance.
- 2:57>> 99
- 2:58>> Oh my god, YOU LOOK BETTER.
- 3:00>> [laughter]
- 3:00>> OH MY GOD, YOU LOOK BETTER.
- 3:01>> IS THAT NOT PERFECT?
- 3:03>> OH, THAT'S CREEPY.
- 3:04>> NOW, I've got one Hey. [laughter]
- 3:07>> DUDE, YOU LOOK SCARY.
- 3:08>> THING. YOU WANT TO TRY IT ON? ONE MORE
- 3:09THING?
- 3:09>> YEAH.
- 3:10>> [laughter]
- 3:10>> What What is it, Soupy?
- 3:12>> Deez nuts.
- 3:13>> Oh, fit perfectly ON THOSE CHIN.
- 3:15>> [laughter]
- 3:18>> DUDE, YOU LOOK CRAZY.
- 3:19>> IT WOULD FIT RIGHT ON THE CHIN.
- 3:21>> WHOA. Big time.
- 3:23>> I think that's the Halloween outfit for
- 3:24you right there.
- 3:25>> I guess this is the Halloween episode.
- 3:26>> Hey, we were doing like the quick hit
- 3:27the bigger bigger hole you get to drink.
- 3:30>> [laughter]
- 3:30>> Jamie uh
- 3:31Jamie and uh Soupy and I were were here
- 3:33before and we were doing a quick hit.
- 3:34We're doing that We're going to be doing
- 3:35that every week, too, before the
- 3:37podcast. Just kind of keep you updated
- 3:38on, you know, what's going on around the
- 3:41NHL and the Blues and stuff like that.
- 3:42We're just wrapping up and all of a
- 3:44sudden Twister rolls in here with that
- 3:46damn wig on. And I look at him I go
- 3:49What What the [ __ ] is this thing? Is he
- 3:52coming to get us?
- 3:52>> Who didn't pay their vig?
- 3:54>> I didn't pay my vig.
- 3:55>> [laughter]
- 3:55>> I'm like, what is this thing?
- 3:56>> Somebody didn't pay their
- 3:57>> You look kind of cool now. You scared me
- 3:59off the the but you look cool, baby.
- 4:01>> And he's just coming in from behind me
- 4:03cuz I'm like turned around.
- 4:04>> You felt his presence.
- 4:05>> No, and and Cab's like
- 4:07thanks for the heads-up. Like, what if
- 4:08WE DID HAVE SOMEBODY
- 4:09>> KILLED YOU.
- 4:10>> IT WAS EITHER a hit or killed you right
- 4:11out of the
- 4:11>> It was either a hit
- 4:12>> We would have jumped on that guy.
- 4:13>> I WOULD HAVE JUMPED UP.
- 4:14>> IT WAS PROCESSING IN MY HEAD.
- 4:16>> [laughter]
- 4:16>> WHAT THE HELL is this thing?
- 4:18Oh, what's going on, guys? What's the
- 4:19good word?
- 4:21>> There was a ton of good words out there.
- 4:23>> on?
- 4:23>> Got a question for you guys. In this day
- 4:25and age,
- 4:27I feel like the old the old the the the
- 4:29the sports athlete in general and being
- 4:32respectful, being a gentleman. We all
- 4:34performed on the ice at a level that was
- 4:36pretty intense and that was It's not how
- 4:38you act on the street, but I'm seeing
- 4:41more and more of the
- 4:42of and and not just the sports athletes,
- 4:44you know, men in general, just not
- 4:46treating women the properly the way they
- 4:47should.
- 4:48And and the question I I beg the
- 4:51question is is why? I mean, we we we
- 4:53were on the ice doing the
- 4:55I mean, violence was part of the game,
- 4:57but when we step off the ice, there was
- 4:59none of that. I mean, that was few and
- 5:01far between. It wasn't something that
- 5:03was practiced. It was definitely not
- 5:05condoned or endorsed and we pleased
- 5:08ourselves a very closely and that as a
- 5:11as an entire league, but
- 5:12I feel like you know, we got to
- 5:14reintroduce and how to act, you know?
- 5:16Do you guys open the door for your girls
- 5:18when you when you when you you go to a
- 5:20car, do you you open the door?
- 5:21>> So, we have a rule because life is busy
- 5:24sometimes I have a rule, rather. Life is
- 5:26busy, so when you run around you got the
- 5:27kids, you got this, you got all sorts of
- 5:29It's not always easy to run up, for your
- 5:32woman, but I I do mandate and Ashley
- 5:36knows it. Like, on a date night where we
- 5:39know we're going for dinner or we're
- 5:40going out to an event or whatever, like
- 5:42on those nights specifically open the
- 5:43door for her, make sure her dress isn't
- 5:45where close the door, like bring out the
- 5:47gentleman's like cuz it's supposed to be
- 5:48a special night. We're doing something
- 5:50together, a date, you know? It's not
- 5:51just like dragging the kids to hockey or
- 5:53dragging the kids like sometimes that
- 5:55gets really like busy and it's tough to
- 5:57be like, "Oh, here you go, honey." It's
- 5:59not that I don't want to do it. It's
- 6:00just sometimes she's already getting in
- 6:01the car. I'm like, "Okay, she's already
- 6:02in there."
- 6:03>> [laughter]
- 6:03>> She's ready to go. But on date nights or
- 6:06special events or a party or something
- 6:08that we're doing that is unique apart
- 6:10from just being parents, then I try to
- 6:12make sure that we get the door
- 6:13everywhere we go. And I I'll even give
- 6:15her [ __ ] Like if she opens your door,
- 6:16I'll be
- 6:18>> That's the two of us.
- 6:19>> night. No, no, no, no. I'll come around.
- 6:21>> Daddy's got you.
- 6:22>> DADDY.
- 6:23>> THAT'S LATER.
- 6:24>> [laughter]
- 6:27>> BUT YEAH, I TRY. I MEAN, I think there's
- 6:29something to it. I think there's value
- 6:31in that. And I think your kids, too,
- 6:32they're observing all the time. And if
- 6:35you're just not that way, why would my
- 6:37boys or Ashley's boys who are around all
- 6:39the time,
- 6:40why would they emulate something that or
- 6:42why would they not emulate my behavior
- 6:44if I'm not doing it? What would their
- 6:46inspiration be? Where are they learning
- 6:48from?
- 6:48>> They learn about it through osmosis, the
- 6:50small things that you do.
- 6:52>> Please don't even say that. Please
- 6:53don't.
- 6:54>> Don't even virtue signal and act like
- 6:56you open the door for
- 6:58>> Well, I do. I consider myself a
- 7:00gentleman. I am a gentleman. It's easy
- 7:03to be a gentleman. Do the little things.
- 7:04>> Open the door to the gas station for
- 7:06people? You're damn right.
- 7:07>> Yeah. I'm not like when we walk past
- 7:08night nights, I might open the door for
- 7:10her.
- 7:10>> What's your take on if you hold the door
- 7:12for somebody open the door for somebody
- 7:13and they just breeze through and don't
- 7:14say thank you?
- 7:15>> I'm like, "Eh."
- 7:15>> I just
- 7:16>> Move on.
- 7:17>> You're good. You're moving on.
- 7:17>> I I get a little pissed sometimes.
- 7:19>> Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, no. I might
- 7:19burn a little inside.
- 7:20>> I think that because it's it's to me
- 7:22it's I was brought up and you say
- 7:23please, you say thank you. You say no,
- 7:25thank you. You know, like it's just like
- 7:27>> I won't say anything, but I'll I would
- 7:28ask you this question.
- 7:29>> For you opening the door for you or for
- 7:31her?
- 7:31>> For a stranger.
- 7:32>> Okay. But in your head?
- 7:34>> I In my head, I'm opening
- 7:35>> In your
- 7:36>> I'm opening the door for them. For them.
- 7:38>> For them.
- 7:38>> So,
- 7:39>> Because
- 7:40>> I see it the other way because I've been
- 7:41trying to be the gentleman. I'll open
- 7:43the door. I'm doing it for me, not for
- 7:44that person.
- 7:45All right. If they choose to say thank
- 7:46you, that's that's up to them. But
- 7:48here's the other part.
- 7:49If you're if you're if you're driving by
- 7:51and you have somebody who who's out on
- 7:53the street, they got a sign, you know,
- 7:55donate. All right. If you do, all right,
- 7:58are you doing it for them or for you?
- 8:01>> Both, in my opinion.
- 8:02>> Both?
- 8:03>> I I I think about yourself.
- 8:05>> No, I'm just asking. Do you
- 8:06do it for yourself or do you do it for
- 8:08them?
- 8:09>> I I'm on a different level because it's
- 8:11not about them or me. It's about getting
- 8:13it right. And the right thing for me to
- 8:14do is open the door and I don't need a
- 8:16thank you for that because my moral
- 8:19state says this is what I should do.
- 8:21It's no different. I probably don't open
- 8:23the door for Tracy as much as I should.
- 8:26A car door? Like walking around just
- 8:28again because we're going typically I'm
- 8:30a couple minutes late, right?
- 8:32>> Always always late.
- 8:3420 minutes
- 8:35>> Waiting on you? Oh, man.
- 8:36>> No, it's not like that. That's the
- 8:38problem. Lozi can't figure out how to
- 8:39open the door.
- 8:40>> [laughter]
- 8:40>> Listen, no.
- 8:42We're both like we got to plan this
- 8:43thing 15 minutes ahead of time so that
- 8:45we so that we can be 15 minutes late,
- 8:47right? But I think it's I think it comes
- 8:50down to something more for me when I
- 8:51look on how I am. When when I'm walking
- 8:54down the street always on the outside of
- 8:56the street. She's always on the inside
- 8:58of the street. Like that's a protective
- 8:59thing. And as much as I maybe got some
- 9:02of that from my dad, my mom taught me
- 9:05that. My mom would walk up to a door and
- 9:07she would stand and wait there until I
- 9:09came and opened it for and I'll be like,
- 9:11oh, okay, yeah, that's right, right? And
- 9:12she never told me what to do.
- 9:15>> Always.
- 9:15>> I'm just saying.
- 9:16>> But if she didn't, I would still open
- 9:18the door for her, right? But that polite
- 9:20side of the side is yeah, that's what
- 9:21he's talking about is have the respect
- 9:23of always like we need to find a way to
- 9:25get along better in this world.
- 9:27>> And that and that routine of taking the
- 9:28outside of the of the street, that just
- 9:30becomes innate and you don't even
- 9:31realize that you're hurting the cattle.
- 9:33Um Jamie I was
- 9:35>> [laughter]
- 9:35>> Jamie was like, what are you doing? And
- 9:36I it just comes oh, outside of the
- 9:38street and I just realized oh, I can't
- 9:40walk over here. I'm going to tire of the
- 9:41sheep dog push me over side. That's you
- 9:44know, that's that's an important that's
- 9:45because it's ingrained.
- 9:46>> Yeah.
- 9:47>> Well, when you donate and you're helping
- 9:49somebody on the street, are you doing it
- 9:50for them or you doing it for yourself? I
- 9:52see it this way.
- 9:54I'm doing it 100% for myself cuz it
- 9:56makes me feel good. Now, what you choose
- 9:58to do with that money is completely up
- 9:59to you. If you if you want to buy booze,
- 10:01food, drugs, it doesn't matter. It makes
- 10:03it it it makes me feel good and the
- 10:06choice is now put on that person or or
- 10:08whatever they choose to do with it. So
- 10:09really it's a selfish it's a selfish
- 10:11donation
- 10:13for the right reasons.
- 10:14>> Yeah, I would say that at the same time
- 10:16so that's your opinion and that's cool.
- 10:18You feel that way.
- 10:20I agree with what you're saying, but I
- 10:21also
- 10:23I don't just give money all the time to
- 10:25anybody. So, it's not like I just want
- 10:26to feel good about me. This is my own
- 10:28opinion, my take on it is when I do give
- 10:31money it's because I'm meeting it in the
- 10:33middle. Meaning like I'm doing it for
- 10:35myself, but I'm also actively looking at
- 10:37the situation and then in my head I
- 10:39truly believe I'm doing it for them too.
- 10:41I don't know what they're going to do
- 10:42with the money. Like you said, who knows
- 10:44if they're going to feed their kids,
- 10:45feed their dog, take drugs,
- 10:48whatever. We don't know that, right? We
- 10:49don't.
- 10:50We we can assume, but we don't know.
- 10:53Whatever. I'm just saying.
- 10:55For me it's like a meet-in-the-middle
- 10:56thing. Like I'm doing it for me, but
- 10:57when I choose to donate to somebody who
- 11:00I actually stop and take the time to,
- 11:01I'm actively wanting to help them, too.
- 11:04>> But they want
- 11:05This is what I give them. I give them a
- 11:07protein stick. 20 g of protein, baby.
- 11:09[laughter] What's up?
- 11:10I ain't got no money. You're hungry.
- 11:13There you go. [laughter]
- 11:14That's what I'm giving you. First form.
- 11:17I'll tell you that right now. You know
- 11:18what would be fun we should do someday?
- 11:19We should go to Jimmy John's. throw it
- 11:20out the window like this. Like there you
- 11:21go. We should go to Jimmy John's and get
- 11:23some subs, put
- 11:25the mayo and everything on the inside,
- 11:26bag of chips, and get like 20 of them,
- 11:28drive around to all the spots where the
- 11:31the sign flat and I threw a tunic at
- 11:33him.
- 11:34Jimmy John's.
- 11:34>> Boys, can I make a suggestion? If you're
- 11:36out on the road all the time, winter
- 11:38time's coming. You got a bunch of
- 11:39clothes, jackets, shirts, you name it. I
- 11:41mean so many of them.
- 11:43And I in the in in the windshield
- 11:45business we're all over the place and
- 11:46see a lot of people out on the corners.
- 11:48I hand clothes out. Clothes that instead
- 11:50of donating it
- 11:51>> Yep.
- 11:51>> hand the clothes out. Because I tell you
- 11:53what, that is way more valuable than
- 11:56anything. Passing I don't
- 11:57>> I agree.
- 11:57>> They don't care what size the jacket is
- 11:59cuz they'll trade that person will trade
- 12:01for so somebody else who wants to
- 12:03sleeping make a blanket.
- 12:05How many clothes do you have in your
- 12:06vehicle and in your house that you the
- 12:08stuff in your vehicle and you know
- 12:09you're going out and just at the corner
- 12:10hand it out.
- 12:11>> The guy I ran out has a closet full of
- 12:13jackets.
- 12:14>> You are going to so much clothes.
- 12:17That's you're going to the source. Why
- 12:19have a third-party filter it?
- 12:20>> I just cleaned out that guy ran closet.
- 12:22There's like 10 jackets. I'm going to
- 12:24bring that and do that follow your lead.
- 12:25>> Hey, some of these panhandlers are
- 12:27making good coin, just so you know.
- 12:28>> You notice he just decided to open your
- 12:31your
- 12:31>> DUDE, THAT'S FOR THE HOMELESS GUY.
- 12:34>> IT WITH HIM. EAT HALF of it and then
- 12:35just throw it.
- 12:36>> [laughter]
- 12:37>> See, YOU GOT TO TRIP ME. YOU GOT TO EAT
- 12:38HALF OF IT THEN hand it out.
- 12:40>> You have a beef stick sitting on the
- 12:41table for very long without putting IT
- 12:43IN HIS
- 12:44>> OR WATER. I'll throw a water out, too.
- 12:46>> Smell it. Don't you smell it, Lozi?
- 12:49>> 50% of everything goes to soup.
- 12:50>> [laughter]
- 12:51>> This is true.
- 12:52>> You're going to hand kick half of one.
- 12:53>> No, he's going to eat baby birds out.
- 12:55>> That's hilarious.
- 12:56>> [laughter]
- 12:58>> I'm going to spit it out.
- 13:00>> Oh man. Oh man. Yeah, I get You know
- 13:02what? So I'll be honest, too. Like
- 13:04sometimes I'm nicer to
- 13:07people that I see daily than I than I am
- 13:10to Kate with stuff. Meaning No, no, no.
- 13:13I'm At least I'm being honest.
- 13:15No, no. Like Like I get performative.
- 13:16Like you got to be cool to everybody.
- 13:17Like I'm nice and boom. I'm
- 13:19And then I got to give Kate more
- 13:20attention. You know what I mean? Like I
- 13:22should donate that to Kate more than
- 13:24anybody else. She's number one. It's you
- 13:27know.
- 13:27>> That's because it's ingrained in you.
- 13:29That's where I'm going.
- 13:30>> I'm You guys can trip me all you want.
- 13:31I'm just I'm being honest. I'm being
- 13:32honest.
- 13:32>> It's
- 13:33It's ingrained in you.
- 13:34>> I need to do more for her.
- 13:36>> And we we can all identify to that
- 13:38because
- 13:39because of what we've had to do post
- 13:41career. We can't just lurk in the
- 13:43shadows and have our millions of
- 13:44dollars, you know, whatever. Like we've
- 13:46all had to be out there in the public.
- 13:49It big We You and I, Twister, we used to
- 13:51work together. You turn the dial up to
- 13:5310 some days. There were people are
- 13:54expecting Tony Twister and Jamie Lissow
- 13:56come kicking through the door and you
- 13:58know, act in a certain way. Some days
- 14:00you don't feel like it. You're
- 14:01exhausted. And you're right, Kim.
- 14:03Because then what happens is you're
- 14:04pulling from an energy bank.
- 14:07And you don't have any more energy left.
- 14:08And you go back to your wife or your
- 14:10girlfriend and your kid. And that
- 14:11energy's already been used up for other
- 14:13situations. And then you're exhausted.
- 14:15And it ain't fair. It ain't fair. And
- 14:17you know, I've had to really do a a much
- 14:19better job of coming home and trying to
- 14:22put as much energy into my now wife and
- 14:25kids that I do for all the other things.
- 14:29>> Radio, this, that, everything.
- 14:31>> TV, radio, public appearances, whatever
- 14:32it is.
- 14:33>> flip though.
- 14:34>> I mean it's good karma. You be good.
- 14:36It's the golden rule, the golden rule,
- 14:36the golden rule. Be good to others.
- 14:37Treat people how you want to be treated.
- 14:38Yeah. I don't know how people are
- 14:39[ __ ] Sometimes. I really I think it
- 14:41>> I don't know how people are [ __ ]
- 14:43Sometimes. I really I think it takes a
- 14:44lot more effort to be a [ __ ] [ __ ]
- 14:46than it does to be a good person.
- 14:48>> It's actually a fact that it takes more
- 14:50muscles in the face the face to frown
- 14:52than it does smile.
- 14:54>> Truth.
- 14:54>> Oh my god.
- 14:55>> You [laughter] want to get rid of a You
- 14:56want to get rid of a headache?
- 14:57>> I got that, man.
- 14:58>> I love it.
- 14:59>> I got some big
- 15:00>> I got some powerful cheeks.
- 15:02>> Analytics just made its way into the
- 15:04club.
- 15:05>> A man who's never had a headache except
- 15:07when he had his jaw wired shut.
- 15:09>> BECAUSE HE COULDN'T SMILE.
- 15:11>> [laughter]
- 15:11>> That's what it was.
- 15:13>> But no, I'm serious. Like think about
- 15:14it. If you like you actively leave that
- 15:16leave the house one day. And we've all
- 15:17been in a bad mood and you're like
- 15:19it's like
- 15:20if Cam's talking to me and I'm it's way
- 15:22harder for me to be like like [ __ ] at
- 15:24him than it is to be like you know, it's
- 15:26cool. Good job. You're like it's just
- 15:28it's weird. So I try. I'm not always the
- 15:30best guy, trust me. Not the nicest guy
- 15:32always, but I try to meet people with
- 15:35kindness. And if they choose to be
- 15:37[ __ ] I keep the feet moving. I'm
- 15:39like okay, hey, have a great day. And
- 15:40I'm like [ __ ] off. I don't care. I'm
- 15:41gone.
- 15:41>> What if they bring up Babcock?
- 15:43>> I GET MAD.
- 15:44>> [laughter]
- 15:45>> NO, I DON'T GET MAD IF PEOPLE JUST
- 15:47RANDOMLY BRING him up.
- 15:48>> No, if they try and talk about how great
- 15:50he is.
- 15:51>> [laughter]
- 15:51>> He's the best.
- 15:52>> He's the best coach IN THE NHL.
- 15:54>> PEOPLE who have never played for him
- 15:56>> Reenactment.
- 15:59>> I have strong opinions. Very strong
- 16:01opinions.
- 16:01>> If it's not accurate, then I got to reel
- 16:03it in quickly. [laughter]
- 16:05I got a little mad.
- 16:06>> How's How's he doing so far?
- 16:08>> Doing pretty good.
- 16:08>> Oh, he's lost his mind.
- 16:12>> [laughter]
- 16:13>> You see but in two weeks when maybe this
- 16:15comes out, we'll see how it all goes.
- 16:16So, as of right now, we're good. You
- 16:18like that, BABY? WHAT'S
- 16:20WHAT'S UP? Let's go. Let's go. All you
- 16:22got to do is go to bareknuckledash.com.

- 16:27>> Well, no, this is my sponsorship
- 16:28sponsorship for this week, the Westboro
- 16:30Rangers.
- 16:31It's the town I'm from, Massachusetts.

- 16:34>> I've done some damage there.
- 16:35>> John Gruden. People are going to start
- 16:37sending boxes to Soupy.
- 16:39>> [laughter]
- 16:39>> That's I like that.
- 16:40>> Unboxing.

- 17:17we do. We hang in the alumni room. We
- 17:20party. We do our thing. We watch the
- 17:22blues and we eat damn good food, too,
- 17:24with good sauce right here. I'm telling
- 17:27you, it's spicy, but not too spicy. So,
- 17:29don't be a wimp. It's a fist of fire Cam
- 17:32Jansen style. Check this bad boy out
- 17:34right here.
- 17:36Mmm, damn good.
- 17:38>> Soupy, what do you got going on today,
- 17:40baby? What do you got?
- 17:41>> to the Westboro Rangers. So, my boys
- 17:43back in Westboro, Rob McCalla, Kevin
- 17:46McNamara, Chris Gallo, they got this
- 17:48hockey team, the high school hockey
- 17:50team, they're going to be state
- 17:50championships. Between Cashman, McCalla,
- 17:54and McNamara, they're going to win the
- 17:55state championships. [laughter]
- 17:56But, honestly, this McNamara kid shot a
- 17:5930 at our nine-hole course in Westboro.
- 18:01>> What do you think of that?
- 18:02>> Oh, they got their names down here. This
- 18:04is my most recent tracks here.
- 18:05>> Why are they on these sides?
- 18:07>> I am just really really
- 18:09close to these nuts.
- 18:09>> I'm questioning a lot of things right
- 18:10now.
- 18:11>> They're close to these nuts.
- 18:13>> [laughter]
- 18:14>> Lowzi wants his name there.
- 18:16>> Lowzi just got his name tattooed
- 18:17[laughter] on my back.
- 18:21>> So, what is that They're going to win
- 18:23the championship, you said?
- 18:24>> Allegedly they're going to win the state
- 18:25championship and
- 18:27they just keep going. Like I said, but
- 18:28the big thing was the nine-hole course,
- 18:30the new record. A 30.
- 18:32>> Oh, really?
- 18:33>> Yeah, Frank Gallo used to be like the
- 18:35legend of this course and then this
- 18:36little McNamara kid comes in and takes
- 18:38over and shoots a 30 in nine.
- 18:40>> like Soupy keeping score?
- 18:42>> No, no, these kids Oh, come on. Come on,
- 18:44Lozo.
- 18:45>> I just wondered if all the people in
- 18:47Westboro cheat like you do at golf.
- 18:49>> No, no, no. This is a legit 30 on nine.
- 18:51>> 30 on nine?
- 18:52>> Yeah, don't Don't smear the
- 18:55McNamara name like that. He
- 18:57>> They'll [laughter] be flying out here.
- 18:58>> I got I got a question, boys. Speaking
- 19:00of tattoos on either side of the leg.

- 19:12>> in in Quebec, uh the Nordiques,
- 19:15Montreal, huge rivalry. There was a gal
- 19:17that came out in the news and said that
- 19:19she had contracted the HIV virus and she
- 19:22was a pole dancer at the local uh strip
- 19:26club. And she had a tattoo of the
- 19:28Nordiques on one side of her thigh and
- 19:30the Montreal Canadiens on the other.
- 19:31She had said she had slept with over 50
- 19:34National Hockey League players out That
- 19:36was put out there.
- 19:38That just reminds me that cuz I think in
- 19:40there after there was uh a not mandatory
- 19:42AIDS test, but there were some guys
- 19:44sweating because she'd claimed that
- 19:45there was 50. Yes.

- 20:03the two tattoos?
- 20:05>> [laughter]
- 20:08>> Never been to Quebec or Montreal.
- 20:10>> Oh,
- 20:10he's wanted in every city in there.
- 20:12>> What
- 20:13Was it in Kenya?
- 20:14>> Kenya, that's right.
- 20:15>> Oh, can your balls fit in your mouth?
- 20:18>> [laughter]
- 20:21>> Oh, man. You guys Who's got any tattoos
- 20:23that you regret?
- 20:25>> I don't regret it. To me, it's all a
- 20:26piece of memory, like it's a piece of
- 20:28time in my life. I don't regret it.
- 20:30>> I
- 20:31>> Nope.
- 20:32>> Uh your [ __ ] stamp's amazing.
- 20:34>> I got I got one on
- 20:35>> You got one on your lower back?
- 20:37>> Yep.
- 20:37>> Yeah. Let me see it.
- 20:39>> I'll just
- 20:39>> I got a
- 20:40I got a shark tattoo on my back. It's a
- 20:42pretty cool picture. It was the first
- 20:43one I got when I was 19 cuz everybody
- 20:45was getting them and our buddy was a
- 20:47pretty good tattoo artist. Um but after
- 20:49that, I only got tattoos like I got a
- 20:51tattoo for Connor and my NHL career over
- 20:54here, my grandfather and Cooper over
- 20:56here, and then got Jesus on the inside
- 20:58of my left arm, and then I'm getting one
- 21:00over here on this side. I've got twins,
- 21:02so I'm going to get a a stopwatch
- 21:05with uh Ava's date uh time here and
- 21:08Ollie's time there with twins in the
- 21:10middle. And then I'm going to get a
- 21:11little leprechaun on the on the up here
- 21:14kind of pulling like that because they
- 21:16were born on March 17th. They're St.
- 21:18Paddy's Day babies.
- 21:20>> That your daughter for the first time.
- 21:22>> Isn't that weird?
- 21:23>> Yeah.
- 21:23>> First time I think it I think it's first

- 21:33got You got a beautiful family.
- 21:34>> Nice kids.
- 21:35>> You created some good-looking [laughter]
- 21:36children. You did, man. You did a good
- 21:38job, homie.
- 21:38>> They're good kids.
- 21:39>> Now Ollie wanted to fight me at the
- 21:41Alumni Skate with me.
- 21:42>> Ollie's a pain in the ass.
- 21:44>> He might be a pain in the ass, but uh
- 21:45no,
- 21:45>> But he That kid's got a big heart and
- 21:47>> Yeah.
- 21:47>> man, it's funny because it's like
- 21:49looking in the mirror and my mom laughs
- 21:51at me all the time, and there's times
- 21:52when I'm like like I used to get really
- 21:54upset with Ollie, but I have really just
- 21:56tried to like meet him where he's at,
- 21:58talk with them, love them and through
- 22:00this moment. And I That's We were
- 22:02sitting there the other night and I go,
- 22:03"You know what, Ollie?"
- 22:04I said, "There's moments where you hurt
- 22:06my self-esteem by just watching you
- 22:09>> [laughter]
- 22:10>> CUZ YOU REMIND ME OF MYSELF so much, but
- 22:13that kid's all heart and uh
- 22:16You're [laughter] just crushing my
- 22:17self-esteem here, bud.
- 22:19Do you have any tats?
- 22:21>> Nope.
- 22:21>> None. You're a clean slate for you.
- 22:22>> Clean slate, yeah. And everyone was
- 22:24getting
- 22:24>> For of their old equipment.
- 22:27>> Sending your offers.
- 22:29>> [laughter]
- 22:30>> Your skin for sale.
- 22:31>> No, we were on the road one weekend,
- 22:33right?
- 22:33>> Well, no, we got a couple of those
- 22:35things. We'll just leave that. Um
- 22:38No, that's what
- 22:39>> Wait, WAIT, THAT'S WHAT WE NEED TO TALK
- 22:40ABOUT.
- 22:40>> Talk about that.
- 22:41>> Premium members members only for those.
- 22:44Um
- 22:45No, but I do remember coming in like so
- 22:46I started getting tattoos at like
- 22:48>> 10?
- 22:49>> 14 or 15.
- 22:50>> Nine?
- 22:50>> And
- 22:51>> On the res?
- 22:52>> I was going to say it's a prison tat.
- 22:53>> His brother His brother did a prison tat
- 22:55in the room.
- 22:56>> There may be a slight prison tat on me
- 22:58somewhere. Uh not from prison, but like
- 23:01some some guy's basement. But uh
- 23:04I remember
- 23:05I remember coming in in 1993 in training
- 23:07camp and nobody really had tattoos. If
- 23:10you did, it was like a small little
- 23:11thing and I'm like, I've got all of
- 23:12these things on me and I'm remember like
- 23:14Holley and those guys looking at me and
- 23:16Holley's like,
- 23:17"I LIKE THIS GUY."
- 23:19>> [laughter]
- 23:20>> LONG HAIR, AND earrings in, tattoos. And
- 23:23Jimmy Roberts used to shake his head at
- 23:25me. He'd
- 23:26>> [laughter]
- 23:26>> stop me in his office
- 23:28as I'd walk by in Worcester. You need to
- 23:30walk by. You could see like He'd go,
- 23:32"Hey!
- 23:33Get in here."
- 23:34[ __ ] I was just probably still
- 23:36hungover. Make me stand in his office.
- 23:38He'd go,
- 23:40"Fera,
- 23:42>> [laughter]
- 23:43>> where's your [ __ ] rock band? WHERE'S
- 23:45YOUR ROCK BAND?"
- 23:46>> [laughter]
- 23:47>> HE'S AWESOME.
- 23:48>> YEAH, ARE YOU HERE TO PLAY HOCKEY OR ARE
- 23:49YOU HERE TO MAKE MUSIC? I'd be like,
- 23:51"I'm here to make sweet music, Jimmy."
- 23:53>> [laughter]
- 23:53>> He was awesome.
- 23:54>> Hey, you're a fighter guy with a ring
- 23:55on?
- 23:57>> No.
- 23:57>> Yeah.
- 23:58>> Like on the ice or off the ice?
- 23:59>> No, no, no, on the ice. Where they kept
- 24:01their [ __ ] ring on.
- 24:02>> No.
- 24:02>> And catch it.
- 24:03>> Never.
- 24:03>> Did you?
- 24:04>> Yeah.
- 24:05>> Who?
- 24:06>> [ __ ] I just random guys I remember
- 24:07having their [ __ ] ring on. I know.
- 24:09>> A ring? Like a wedding ring?
- 24:11>> Yeah, they forgot to take their wedding
- 24:12ring off before they went on the ice.
- 24:13And you fight them, you're like,
- 24:15"What's that black thing or whatever on
- 24:17your arm on your hand?"
- 24:18>> I've never seen that.
- 24:19>> Who did that? Who did that?
- 24:21>> I'll get them for you. I'll get them.
- 24:23>> Right now?
- 24:23>> I don't think you meant to.
- 24:24>> It's a good way to [snorts] break your
- 24:25hand.
- 24:25>> I don't think you meant to.
- 24:26>> Break Yeah, break your finger, too.
- 24:28>> So, there's a I got coached in my first
- 24:30year pro I was in Worcester.
- 24:32>> My brain doesn't work anymore.
- 24:33>> Sorry, go ahead.
- 24:33>> Went down to Went down to the East Coast
- 24:35League playing in Baton Rouge with the
- 24:37Baton Rouge Kingfish and Dave the Hammer
- 24:39Schultz
- 24:40was our coach. And I'm telling you the
- 24:42craziest dude ever. I loved him, but on
- 24:45the bench he was like a player still.
- 24:48Like chirping the other guys, dropping
- 24:50C-bombs, swearing at everybody. And then
- 24:52you get off the ice and we'd be at a at
- 24:55a team dinner or out doing a team
- 24:56function, just the sweetest man you've
- 24:58ever met. He's got both his Stanley Cup
- 25:00rings, doesn't wear wedding rings. He's
- 25:02like, "These are my wedding rings, you
- 25:03know?" And but he's got picture in his
- 25:06office He had a picture in his office
- 25:07and he actually had tape in the '70s
- 25:10around his knuckles. Around his knuckles
- 25:12and then it was like probably somewhere
- 25:13in the '80s, early '80s where they said,
- 25:15"You can't have any tape on it." But he
- 25:16was standing He's like, "Oh yeah, we
- 25:17used to tape our knuckles so that
- 25:19whenever we came across it rubbed the
- 25:21skin."
- 25:21>> Putting the foil on.
- 25:22>> There's a story out there.
- 25:24I wish I could remember the player.
- 25:27Bob York actually talked about it, so
- 25:29it's a long time ago.
- 25:30But you know, surgical gloves these days
- 25:32have the latex and all that on them.
- 25:34Well, way back when it was just rubber,
- 25:36like grippy rubber. And there was a
- 25:38player that cut the fingers off of it
- 25:40and put it like put it on and cut the
- 25:41fingers off and went out and fought. And
- 25:44every time he'd hit somebody would rip a
- 25:45piece of skin off their face.
- 25:47And it took forever for them to figure
- 25:49out The guys were leaving the fight
- 25:50looking like they got mauled by a pit
- 25:52bull.
- 25:53>> [laughter]
- 25:53>> LIKE THEY GOT HIT WITH A DRIVING RANGE,
- 25:55LIKE golf balls off of their face. And
- 25:57they could never figure out cuz it's
- 25:58like skin tone and he'd get to the
- 26:00penalty box, like ice his hand, like
- 26:01peel the [ __ ] glove off, whatever.
- 26:03So finally they found it. I wish I could
- 26:05remember. Somebody hopefully is watching
- 26:06this will know the same story and and
- 26:09tag the story in it. But yeah, he had
- 26:11the surgical gloves where he cut the
- 26:13fingers off.
- 26:14And then just shady. And just
- 26:16>> You wouldn't be able to get away with
- 26:17that today with the cameras.
- 26:19>> They used to do the freaking tough skin.
- 26:20>> skin. You could smell it from a mile
- 26:22away. They dropped their gloves and I'm
- 26:23like,
- 26:23>> That was
- 26:24But that was to keep the cuts together.
- 26:27That wasn't for any other reason.
- 26:30>> Dude, it would it look like you had a
- 26:32rash after you got punched by that cuz
- 26:33you were like
- 26:34>> Come on.
- 26:36I mean, seriously, that's the best thing
- 26:37to keep him together.
- 26:41>> Yes, yes.
- 26:41>> And then they barely put their glove on
- 26:43cuz he didn't want to scratch his dick.
- 26:44[laughter]
- 26:45>> I can't change things.
- 26:46>> You'd have like a big rash on your
- 26:48>> [laughter]
- 26:48>> face cuz of that [ __ ] man.
- 26:50>> Rocky Thompson used to put Vaseline on
- 26:53his cheeks and stuff before games.
- 26:54You're like
- 26:55>> I never did that. Like I just whenever I
- 26:57knew I was getting ready to go
- 26:58>> out there and get after it, I would just
- 27:00put a little water cuz typically I
- 27:01hadn't had a whole lot of shifts, so I
- 27:03wasn't very sweaty.
- 27:04Uh but yeah, there was water on the face
- 27:06and
- 27:06>> Vaseline was a great intimidator because
- 27:10if you come out in the beginning of the
- 27:11game without any and you go you put it
- 27:14on, the other team notices and
- 27:15everybody's like, "Oh,
- 27:16>> He's ready to go.
- 27:17>> Yeah, and it changes it changes the
- 27:20attitude of the other team. And that
- 27:22that would be the reason I'd all I'd put
- 27:24that on just in the middle of the second
- 27:26period.
- 27:27>> Vaseline that whether it was to do or
- 27:29not because you could see
- 27:30>> Oh, that's good.
- 27:34>> That's a little attitude change for you.
- 27:35>> I hope so.
- 27:36>> Like it does not to get cut.
- 27:37>> Boxers do it for a reason.
- 27:39>> No [ __ ]
- 27:40Yeah, he's got stitches. You got to put
- 27:41that mug over the stitches because
- 27:43>> you don't have stitches, it don't hurt
- 27:44to have them slide a little better.
- 27:45>> Slide right off, baby.
- 27:46>> To take the rasp to the top of the
- 27:48helmet, take the rasp and just
- 27:50>> The Kevin Kaminski?
- 27:51>> And just put there'd be all these little
- 27:53rasp marks across I mean, those things
- 27:55you hit your head against that, it would
- 27:56cut it wide open.
- 27:57>> Were visors mandatory
- 27:58>> in junior when you played?
- 28:00>> No. Okay, so visors were mandatory for
- 28:02>> Oh, no, they were. Yeah, they were. They
- 28:04were mandatory.
- 28:05>> So, remember the big
- 28:06>> had Cooperall pants, too.
- 28:08>> Yeah, we had a good
- 28:09>> [laughter]
- 28:11>> Do you remember the like the big Itech
- 28:14visor and then they came up with the
- 28:15little like little bump? So, when they
- 28:18came out, the big Itech one was hard for
- 28:20guys to manipulate cuz you could totally
- 28:21tell, but when they had the little one
- 28:22with the little nose thing where you
- 28:24know, it was just a little more sleek, I
- 28:26remember walking in and like there were
- 28:27guys I played junior with, guys got his
- 28:29helmet near the the skate sharpener and
- 28:31he's sharpening up
- 28:32>> Come on, come on.
- 28:34>> of the
- 28:34>> That's another level.
- 28:35>> What if you're going to cut yourself?
- 28:37>> Didn't care, right? And so And then when
- 28:40he knew
- 28:41when when he knew he was going to fight,
- 28:43all of a sudden like the chin strap
- 28:44would be dangling. You look down the
- 28:45bench and that sucker was pretty tight.
- 28:47And he would go in and be like wham
- 28:49wham. And the guys would leave their
- 28:50hands would be covered in blood. The
- 28:52visor was cutting their hands wide open.
- 28:54Got to the point where referees would
- 28:56come over and start to do this like on
- 28:57the be like
- 28:58>> Are you kidding me? Got to go.
- 29:01You got to get an assignment or you got
- 29:02to leave the ice.
- 29:03>> That's creative.
- 29:04>> Yeah. I was
- 29:05>> That's [ __ ] gay.
- 29:06>> I think I was like 16. I'm like
- 29:08>> The thing about junior for us and it
- 29:09never happened in pro, but whenever
- 29:12there was a fight in junior
- 29:14unless it kind of just broke out, we
- 29:15always used to take our buckets off.
- 29:17Like always always always. If there was
- 29:19a heavyweight bout
- 29:19>> That became a thing.
- 29:21>> Spin spin a helmet kind of get going. I
- 29:23remember we took our lids off all the
- 29:24time.
- 29:25>> You did?
- 29:25>> Oh, yeah.
- 29:26In junior. But I tried it my first first
- 29:28exhibition game.
- 29:29>> did it. Yeah, guys would do the whole
- 29:30twirl.
- 29:30>> I got to get my story
- 29:32>> Finish your story.
- 29:33>> No no no no no. GO AHEAD.
- 29:35>> [laughter]
- 29:37>> I'M GOOD.
- 29:38LET'S GO.
- 29:39>> I'LL FINISH IT FOR YOU. I'LL finish it
- 29:40for you.
- 29:41>> I don't even remember what I was saying.
- 29:42>> Take your buckets the buckets off.
- 29:45>> And then we didn't do it in pro.
- 29:47>> Yeah.
- 29:47>> Why not?
- 29:48>> The what?
- 29:49>> I remember the first in my first fight
- 29:50in training camp, Bruce Ramsey.
- 29:52I tried to take the buckets off and he's
- 29:54like not not here, kid.
- 29:56>> [laughter]
- 29:57>> But then they made a rule you couldn't
- 29:58take your own helmet off. And then they
- 30:00you would unstrap the other guy's
- 30:01helmet.
- 30:02>> Remember that goofy thing?
- 30:04>> That was goofy.
- 30:05>> Like you'd unstrap the other guy's
- 30:06helmet.
- 30:07>> But I would sit there, right?
- 30:08>> That's weird.
- 30:09>> That's a lot of trust.
- 30:11>> I'm going to ONE TIME YOU.
- 30:15>> [laughter]
- 30:17>> THEY WERE DOING IT.
- 30:18>> YOU GO FIRST.
- 30:19>> BUT I strategically when I was in a
- 30:20fight I I first off I I never was this
- 30:23guy. I was always want square him up and
- 30:26that way I could have both hands in the
- 30:27game. And I would try and punch through
- 30:30and when I got through, I would grab the
- 30:32back of his helmet on the way through.
- 30:33And I would always try and grab that
- 30:35back of that cusp of that helmet, and
- 30:37pull it off and way back through, and
- 30:38then I'm right back at it.
- 30:39>> There you go.
- 30:39>> Punching no help.
- 30:40>> exactly what you're saying. It's like a
- 30:41punch take off.
- 30:42>> I'm trying to get a helmet off as soon
- 30:43as possible, cuz well, then I did it to
- 30:45Tie Domi, and I was like, "Eh, can I get
- 30:47your helmet back on,
- 30:48>> [laughter]
- 30:48>> please?" Cuz that hurt my fist punching
- 30:51his head.
- 30:51>> was What did you do, Soup?
- 30:52>> I just held on, and then if I saw a
- 30:54little window to try to make it look
- 30:55[laughter] good for the fans, I like,
- 30:56yeah.
- 30:57>> Oh, yeah. Upper cut a little. I'm like,
- 30:59"OH, THE FANS ARE LIKING THIS ONE,
- 31:00YEAH."
- 31:01>> [laughter]
- 31:01>> OKAY. BUT, I ALMOST WENT TO leather
- 31:03straps. What I want to ask you guys
- 31:04about the leather straps.
- 31:06>> I had them.
- 31:07>> Did that help?
- 31:09>> ones.
- 31:09>> Yeah.
- 31:10>> No.
- 31:10>> Nothing?
- 31:11>> No.
- 31:11>> I tied I Theoretically, it was supposed
- 31:14to not break.
- 31:15>> It was supposed to keep your helmet on
- 31:16during a fight?
- 31:17>> Well, there was there were leather
- 31:18straps, and the straps ended up being in
- 31:21the screws inside. So, if there was
- 31:23something like there was one time where
- 31:24I was getting it pulled, and it like
- 31:25almost hurt my neck, cuz my helmet was
- 31:27on, and I couldn't get it off. And I
- 31:29took them off after that, because I'd
- 31:30rather have my helmet off than
- 31:32>> than blind.
- 31:33>> being able to like run me around like
- 31:35control your neck.
- 31:37>> I would take my jersey, and the and all
- 31:39the trainers would get so pissed at me,
- 31:40especially with the Devils, cuz Lou
- 31:42wanted us to be look perfect, and I get
- 31:44that. But, I go like this.
- 31:46>> [clears throat and snorts]
- 31:47>> And then my my my shoulder pads were a
- 31:49little
- 31:49>> Can I get that sound again?
- 31:50Thank you.
- 31:51>> Loosey-goosey, so they don't have as
- 31:53much control. It's way out here, you
- 31:55know what I mean? Now, I kind of I take
- 31:57I take an extra 3 in. If he's 6'5", and
- 31:59you have to hold me out here, and then I
- 32:01kind of I'm in more control than you are
- 32:02over me.
- 32:03>> Does that make sense?
- 32:04>> That makes a lot of sense.
- 32:05>> I don't know if you did this, but I
- 32:06watched Pronger do this when I first got
- 32:08to St. Louis,
- 32:09when we got our jerseys, and we used to
- 32:11use three sets a season. I would take
- 32:14the the 25-lb plates, and I would put
- 32:16them in my sleeves, and I would hang
- 32:18them over the the the squat rack. So,
- 32:21those 25 And then, my sleeves would be
- 32:23all like this. So, you grabbed on me,
- 32:25you weren't you were just it was all
- 32:26loose.
- 32:27>> topic of all the tricks of the trade.
- 32:28>> Well, in Quebec, you can you can speak
- 32:30to so many tricks that are banned before
- 32:33these guys hit the league.
- 32:34>> Absolutely. So, when I was in Quebec, I
- 32:36would take I was a I became a
- 32:38professional sewer, so I would take the
- 32:40my right arm, I'd cut from the inside,
- 32:42I'd undo the threads
- 32:44from here to here. Then I'd fold it in
- 32:46backwards and I would resew it myself.
- 32:49Now, understand I sewed it pretty tight,
- 32:50but the thread that I'm using the stitch
- 32:52the the stitches are so far apart. So,
- 32:55it's in the middle of the fight when you
- 32:56start tugging, it would split from here
- 32:58to here. Ruh-roh.
- 33:00>> Right.
- 33:00>> now it's free.
- 33:01>> Yeah.
- 33:02>> Even the even before the games even the
- 33:04referee would come over and tug on my
- 33:05shirt, but I'd tug I mean, you'd have to
- 33:08really tug [snorts] on it to break it.
- 33:09He's like, "No, it's all good." But sure
- 33:10enough, if the fight breaks out, it
- 33:12splits from here to here.
- 33:14>> And now you're loosey-goosey, baby.
- 33:16>> When who was the first guy that you know
- 33:18of
- 33:19and what uh like what year do you think
- 33:21when guys would go to
- 33:23>> Basil McRae, John Kordic, Velcro.
- 33:24>> The Velcro shirts.
- 33:25>> Johnny Kordic
- 33:26>> put Velcro and then we just
- 33:28like right
- 33:28>> That was Johnny Kordic and Basil McRae.
- 33:30They both did that and then the team the
- 33:33league outlawed outlawed it.
- 33:34>> I think they did it and they fought each
- 33:36other.
- 33:36>> Oh, no, that's why they were doing it
- 33:38cuz he
- 33:38>> Johnny was with Toronto and Basil was
- 33:40with Minnesota at the time. I think and
- 33:43you watched there's one fight on YouTube
- 33:44where both their sleeves are up by their
- 33:46shoulders.
- 33:46>> [laughter]
- 33:47>> And I forget who started it first. I
- 33:49think it was I think it was Baz that
- 33:51started and then Johnny fell followed
- 33:52suit. And Dave Brown might used to take
- 33:55Spam and all over his left arm.
- 33:56>> also would have the trainer cut his
- 33:58sleeve. He had a little weed left like
- 34:00if you look at Dave Brown when he's
- 34:01playing, his little his left sleeve is
- 34:03like a little wee sleeve and his right
- 34:05was normal cuz he'd have a hard time
- 34:07grabbing it and then he'd grease it up
- 34:08like a pig and he'd be like
- 34:10>> Once they outlawed that, then the guys
- 34:11went to the goalie cut shirts.
- 34:15>> [laughter]
- 34:15>> Always looking for it. So,
- 34:16>> you're in junior and I remember like we
- 34:18had tie-downs when I was in junior, but
- 34:20you were 10 years before that.
- 34:21>> Yeah.
- 34:21>> You had Did you guys used to take like
- 34:23the little diamond tie down thing around
- 34:25it?
- 34:26At one point in time, they we we wore
- 34:28they wore tie-downs so that the jersey
- 34:30couldn't come off and then the Rob Ray
- 34:32rule obviously because he stopped tying
- 34:34down so that he could go through and get
- 34:36everything off, had hardly any pads or
- 34:38anything on and then obviously that
- 34:39happened and you know, he was just being
- 34:41a like to fight a guy like Darren
- 34:43McCarty when I fought him in St. Louis,
- 34:46he came off and I literally had him by
- 34:48the throat just holding him out there
- 34:50because I had nowhere else to go and
- 34:52it's you know, it's obviously a
- 34:53disadvantage. He got kicked out of the
- 34:55game.
- 34:55>> I've never I I never fought a guy where
- 34:57he comes out of his [ __ ] gear
- 34:58totally. Did it ever cross your mind
- 35:00that once he comes out of his gear you
- 35:01skate away? Like I'm [ __ ] done here.
- 35:03Like
- 35:03>> I'm not a [ __ ]
- 35:04>> I fought the guy.
- 35:05>> I got to hug him.
- 35:06>> I'd be like I'm looking at the ref and
- 35:07be like I'm [ __ ] done.
- 35:08>> It's happened many times.
- 35:09>> But he's still got a hold of you. He's
- 35:11got a hold of you.
- 35:11>> No, but if he doesn't like if you break
- 35:13free I'd be like I'm
- 35:13>> Or break free to take your [ __ ] off and
- 35:15>> Well, I've seen that happen before.
- 35:16>> I've seen that happen. I've seen
- 35:17Thompson and Scotty Parker back in the
- 35:20day.
- 35:21>> Here's Here's another question for you
- 35:23guys. When they guys break off, I just
- 35:25saw this last week, they broke off and
- 35:27then they just started throwing like
- 35:28this standing off instead of tying up.
- 35:30What do you guys do there?
- 35:32>> Same.
- 35:32>> Do you try to [laughter] tie up or you
- 35:33just go toe-to-toe?
- 35:35>> You stand on a box.
- 35:36>> So if I ever got into a position where I
- 35:38was either out of control or I had lost
- 35:40my grip on a guy and he had it on there,
- 35:43my first move was like this over top of
- 35:45his shoulders and get back to my what I
- 35:47would call my square one. Like this is
- 35:49where I started to fight.
- 35:50>> Always defense.
- 35:51>> Roussin had an advantage though.
- 35:52>> He's a huge man.
- 35:54>> Right.
- 35:54>> Like for Cam, that's really not an
- 35:55option.
- 35:59>> [laughter]
- 35:59>> No, I just got to eat him the right way.
- 36:02>> Eat him the right way, isn't it?
- 36:04>> But some of these fights like Stu
- 36:05Grimson [laughter] came in with one
- 36:07punch and knocked a guy out.
- 36:08>> That was brutal.
- 36:09>> Quick. Like one bang.
- 36:10>> Yeah.
- 36:10>> That's our boy.
- 36:11>> The Reeves Simpson.
- 36:12>> That's offense first. Do you go offense
- 36:14first or defense first?
- 36:15>> Did you see that fight on
- 36:16>> Whatever.
- 36:18>> Yeah, he just came in and I don't know
- 36:19what that is.
- 36:20>> Hold on.
- 36:21Go ahead.
- 36:21>> What are you saying?
- 36:22>> I was asking Twister if he ever went
- 36:24defense first.
- 36:25>> there's no defense.
- 36:26>> Coming in throwing right away.
- 36:27>> Oh yeah, no, there's a left jab. Sure.
- 36:29There's no defense.
- 36:30>> Tying up that would be considered
- 36:32You would just throw toe-to-toe.
- 36:33>> Yeah.
- 36:34>> Never tie up.
- 36:34>> Did you when you squared off though like
- 36:36no if I'm squaring off with you I'm
- 36:37going like this. And I'm taking these
- 36:39elbow pads and throwing them off right
- 36:40off the bat like this guy here. out of
- 36:42Get out of here.
- 36:43>> My elbow pads were this big and I didn't
- 36:45wear shoulder pads. I had two cups that
- 36:47hung off me.
- 36:47>> Sillinders.
- 36:48>> One of my favorite things about Twister
- 36:50is when he did square off
- 36:52is like you didn't get guys not even
- 36:54like that. He'd be like this.
- 36:56>> Yeah.
- 36:57>> Almost disinterested. He'd be like
- 36:59just follow.
- 37:00>> Yeah.
- 37:00>> Like I'm just waiting for you.
- 37:02>> Twister, just show the just show the
- 37:03stance.
- 37:04Just show the stance.
- 37:05>> There it is.
- 37:06>> That's a bare knuckle hockey card right
- 37:07there.
- 37:07>> He wouldn't even grimace. He was like
- 37:09this. Almost like
- 37:10>> Here we go again.
- 37:11>> Here we go.
- 37:12>> There's a picture in the alumni room in
- 37:13our in our
- 37:15in our suite at the at the Enterprise
- 37:17and that's you standing there and you're
- 37:18like this and it's all blocked out
- 37:21except for your white jersey.
- 37:23>> It looks awesome.
- 37:24>> favorite picture
- 37:25in the in the entire alumni suite and it
- 37:28just like man, whoever was on the other
- 37:30side of that
- 37:31having a bad day. I know how you feel.
- 37:35>> [laughter]
- 37:36>> OH, BOY.
- 37:37>> THING, WHO INVENTED the running jump
- 37:39punch? Remember that you see these guys
- 37:41come charging
- 37:41>> Show me your punch.
- 37:42>> Yeah, the guy started it. He's the only
- 37:44guy I've ever seen do it.
- 37:45>> was one guy before B E X because B E X
- 37:47was talking about it one day
- 37:49uh
- 37:50online. It was I guess it was Hockey
- 37:51Night in Canada.
- 37:52He'd seen one guy before try it and he's
- 37:55like, "Eh, I'll give it a try." And then
- 37:58obviously it now it's like the UFC
- 37:59Superman punch.
- 38:00>> St. Pierre St. Pierre did that a lot I
- 38:02think.
- 38:02>> [ __ ] clocked what's his name with it
- 38:04and knocked him out. It was Goodis. Now
- 38:07Goodis is not a fighter. Tough as
- 38:08[ __ ] nails and he'd bury you in a
- 38:10heartbeat but he's not a great
- 38:13fighter.
- 38:13>> But he Superman punched
- 38:14>> He got caught with it. He got knocked
- 38:15him out.
- 38:16>> Put him
- 38:17>> Put him right down.
- 38:17>> Put him down.
- 38:18>> Put him down. Caught him. He caught him.
- 38:19>> Yeah, if you miss that, I think you're
- 38:21not in a very good position.
- 38:22>> Yeah, a couple guys tried it after that
- 38:24and they missed and they kind of just
- 38:25fell and they got lucky a little bit.
- 38:26>> Yeah, the kid from Toronto tried it
- 38:28there. What was that Benoit kid?
- 38:29>> Yeah, it was actually pretty cool.
- 38:31>> It was okay. Even when he he kind of hit
- 38:33it, kind of didn't he? Whatever.
- 38:35>> The evolution of fighting is what you
- 38:36guys has went through. You had the
- 38:38stitching of the jerseys, the Superman.
- 38:40What's next?
- 38:42>> Just get fighting back in the game.
- 38:43>> [laughter]
- 38:44>> But fighting's it's a comeback.
- 38:46>> Yeah.
- 38:46>> It is.
- 38:46>> They're stocking up the players.
- 38:48>> The sad part is is Nathan MacKinnon's
- 38:49doing it. You know what I mean? Like you
- 38:50got to fight the Which I I I love I love
- 38:52the fights. Whenever I was on the bench
- 38:54and one of our best players got pissed
- 38:57off, dropped the gloves, and kicked
- 38:58somebody's ass, it inspired me to want
- 39:00to go to beat somebody up after and I'm
- 39:02like, "All right." That'd be like if I
- 39:04score a goal, that guy's like, "I better
- 39:05score a goal tonight, too." [laughter]
- 39:06If he gets in a fight, I better go to
- 39:08get in a fight tonight, too.
- 39:09>> Who was he scoring?
- 39:11>> It is fighting's coming back. Uh-oh.
- 39:14>> [laughter]
- 39:14>> That was That was a low blow.
- 39:16>> What are you talking about?
- 39:18>> I think the evolution started maybe like
- 39:19when guys really trained for it. You
- 39:22know, like training in MMA, like
- 39:25>> No, that's true.
- 39:25>> doing [clears throat] different stuff
- 39:26and boxing and hockey fight training and
- 39:29stuff like that. I don't know if too
- 39:31many guys like Twisty, you probably did,
- 39:32but I don't think that many guys do grow
- 39:35up training when you were older,
- 39:37remember we used to do it with Finny,
- 39:38but before that when you were young,
- 39:40were you training hockey fights?
- 39:41>> The only thing I trained in a that was
- 39:43would be hockey fight thought process
- 39:46was when I was 18 after my first year
- 39:48junior, I went home and trained on a
- 39:50tensor bandage, wrapped it around a
- 39:51heavy bag, and I just threw my left
- 39:53hands as hard and as fast as I could
- 39:55until my shoulder was exhausted, and I
- 39:57did that every single day after I was
- 39:58done working out. So, when I went back
- 40:00down to the SJHL in Minot the next year,
- 40:02they'd grab onto my right, that's where
- 40:04I started coming in with the left. And
- 40:06then, quite frankly, weirdly enough, I
- 40:08probably use my left hand more in fights
- 40:10through the rest of my career than I did
- 40:12my right. But, I'd always like I would
- 40:14square off like this, and then I'd
- 40:16square off left, and then come back
- 40:17right, just
- 40:18trying to get in their head like which
- 40:20one's coming at you, man?
- 40:21>> throw both.
- 40:21>> Yeah. Yeah, they already knew it.
- 40:23>> like there's video on it.
- 40:24>> Yeah. Yeah, they're watching and they
- 40:25know that that it's coming from both
- 40:26sides. So, if I if I wanted to show
- 40:29like, "Hey." And I always had a smirk on
- 40:31my face, too, like I was excited, you
- 40:32know?
- 40:33>> That'll set somebody on their heel but
- 40:34excited.
- 40:35>> You what?
- 40:36>> That'll set somebody on their heel on
- 40:37their heels with that.
- 40:40All right. Day in the office.
