- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: He was having to sell it simply because times were so tough, he couldn't feed his family.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: One day an all-cut and he represented him came along and said, Sir, you know, we think there might be all on your property.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: Let us drill for it and if we discover any, we'll pay your oil on every barrel that we pump out.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he had nothing to lose, a great deal to gain, so he said, let's do it.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they drill for them all, and in those days, the dherics were made out of wood.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: And when they had a gussure, the gussure literally destroyed the dheric, and the greater the destruction, the greater the excitement, because that met an abundance of all underneath.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: When this oil whale came in, it literally obliterated the dairy, and before they could cap it over 100,000 barrels of oil had flowed out.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: It was the world's introduction to spindle top.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: The most productive oil whale in history.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: Three oil companies came out of that field.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: The man became an instant millionaire.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: Ardidia.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: The reality is, he'd been a multi-millionaire ever since he had acquired the property.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: But until they drilled for that old, discovered it, brought it to the surface and took it to the marketplace, it really had no venue.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: I found a lot of people pretty much that way.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: They've got an awful lot underneath the surface.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: But until they bring it out and take it to the marketplace, they will never realize even a mind-tooth fraction of the benefits that they could bring themselves, their families, their friends, their community, and everyone else.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: The purpose of strategists for success is to share with you, how do we discover they're all, how do we bring it to the surface, how do we take it to the marketplace, how can we learn to be so that we can do and do so that we can have?
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: the level of your commitment is the critical issue.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: And it depends also on how badly you want to achieve those.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: The first two and a half years, I was in sales.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: I struggled desperately.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I do mean desperately.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: I remember some very difficult times where this connected my telephone could of my lights.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: I had to turn a car back in, I couldn't pay for it, but what happened was I went to meeting at the end of two and a half years and a man named P.C.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: Merrill was there.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: And so he said, you know, I've watched you for two and a half years and I've never seen such a waste.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: That'll get your attention.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, what do you mean, Mr. Meryl?
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: He said, I believe you can be the National Champion.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: I believe you can go all the way to the top.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: Become an executive in this company.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: If you just believed in yourself and went to work on a regular schedule, while I was raised with a lot of love, but nobody ever said things like you can be a great one.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: You can be a National Champion, but because of his integrity.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: and because of his success, he had written the training programs that all of the records, I believed him.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't quite make it, but I did finish second out of 7,000 salespeople.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: The year before I had not been in the top 5,000.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: Now, my commitment was I wanted so badly to be successful the commitment I made was Mr. Maryland said, go to work on a regular schedule and believe in yourself.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: At exactly nine o'clock every morning without fail, rain or shine, cold or hot, I was knocking on somebody's door.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: Now, that year,
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: finishing second and receiving the best promotion the company had to offer, not one time did I ever finish in the top 20, not one single month, not one single week, top 20 of it, end of the year.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: I was number two because there were no blanks.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: I sold every single week that discipline following the commitment.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: If standard of living is your number one objective,
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: but if quality of life is your number one objective, then standard of living, invariably improves.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: We need to, as businessmen and women, we need to always maintain the home court advantage.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: Well, in marriage, home court advantages, you know, what happens at home?
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: What happens at home, impacts what happens on the job, what happens on the job, impacts what happens at home.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's where that balance comes in.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: When I'm at home, I really am at home.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: But when I'm on the job, I really am on the job.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: Because of the integrity, I don't have to worry about what I said or did yesterday.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: I can concentrate what I've got to do and want to do today.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: How many of you consider yourself to be honest at least reasonably intelligent?
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: May I say your hands, please?
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: How many of you honest intelligent people, as a general rule, get about twice as much work done on the day before you go on vacation?
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: Can I say your hands, please, all right?
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: Second question.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: How much more did you know on the day before you went on vacation than you knew the day before?
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: Would you agree that it's many skew just bear their little bit and yet you double your performance?
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: Why is that?
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: Well, if we can figure out why and learn how and then repeat it every day without working any longer or any harder does it make more sense that we would be more effective on our job more beneficial to ourselves, to our family, to the company and to the community does that make sense.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: And so, yes, I'll help you with the tough ones, okay?
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: There's no question about it.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: I have any of you have noticed on the day before vacation that the night before that day, you got your laptop out, or just a sheet of paper.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: And said, tomorrow, I got to do this and this and this and this.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we call short-term goal-setting.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: Now, have many of you also on the day before vacation.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: When you got to work the next day, because you lined out a plan of action, have many of you when you got to work immediately got busy and went to work.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: Have many of you have noticed that as a general rule, people with nothing to do want to do it with you.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: Can I say you hands?
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: Did you know that according to the research, a little over one hour every day is wasted in idle and conversation?
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: On a typical day, at many times, we see people walking around, you know, it's about to ask you a question.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: We won't tell you a minute, and somebody else said, wait, wait, not just we have another question, but say it'll take about two minutes.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: the lower an hour and a day is wasted and idle gossip every day that's five hours a week that's 250 hours a year that's six weeks of life totally gone to waste as a matter of thing I just told you a half truth
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: because when you're talking to those folks, ladies and gentlemen, that means at least two people are involved.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's not lack of time.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: That we suffer from.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's lack of direction and commitment in our lives.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: A minute can be enormously important.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: Now, you know, earthquakes and hurricanes get all the publicity, but did you know that turbines do more damage in both of them?
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: And they take such a little bit of ice.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: but there's so many of them and they keep on biting and biting and biting.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: Little things done on a daily basis as a habit will make all the difference in the world.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: The reason on that day before vacation you get more done is you've got a game plan and you accepted responsibility to the following through on it.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's the reason you perform better, and I want you to think about this.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: If planning one day of your life can make such a radical difference in that day, what a difference, a game plan for life would make.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: Now what I'm really talking about is, attitude, attitude involves everything that we do, and I'm also a ladies and gentlemen, want to tell you what the healthest attitude of all is.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's the attitude of gratitude.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: Psychologically speaking, Dr. Frank Manderth, of the world renowned Manderth Clinic, says that more you express gratitude for what you have, the more you will help to express gratitude for.
