- 0:00Speaker 1: Is the number of commuters speaking of Auckland using Auckland's
- 0:02Speaker 1: News City rail Link from next year to travel in
- 0:05Speaker 1: and out of the city could be much lower than
- 0:06Speaker 1: first thought. It was meant to be twenty seven thousand
- 0:09Speaker 1: a peak. Latest forecasts revised down now just nineteen thousand
- 0:13Speaker 1: commutts expected for beck CEO Heart of the city with
- 0:16Speaker 1: me this morning, Hey, viv Hello, Are you worried about
- 0:20Speaker 1: the forecast coming down like that?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Absolutely? I mean, seriously, it's a relief to be actually
- 0:26Speaker 2: talking about opening, but the numbers are really concerning and
- 0:29Speaker 2: on the fate of it, this won't take us back
- 0:31Speaker 2: to the numbers we had before construction started.
- 0:35Speaker 1: So we've spent five point six billion dollars for.
- 0:37Speaker 2: What well, I mean, I think people are positive about
- 0:42Speaker 2: the CRL. It will bring people quicker and faster into
- 0:46Speaker 2: potential city, all those things. However, talking about financial viability
- 0:51Speaker 2: has to extend the people affected for the last decade,
- 0:55Speaker 2: and also we've got to be sensible about how people
- 0:58Speaker 2: get here. We need people to be able to get here.
- 1:00Speaker 2: There's been an absolute obsession to remove cars. Taxis make
- 1:06Speaker 2: it difficult on many many levels. And if these numbers
- 1:10Speaker 2: are telling us. We're going to be way down and
- 1:12Speaker 2: what was proposed, and there's a major problem. There has
- 1:15Speaker 2: to be accountability and there has to be a major
- 1:18Speaker 2: change in how access and business impacts are managed in
- 1:21Speaker 2: the CEA Center.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Yeah, because when they brought this out, they said we
- 1:24Speaker 1: would get twenty seven thousand at peak. To quote them,
- 1:28Speaker 1: this is kibiral. This is all part of the funding,
- 1:30Speaker 1: all part of enabling the sour Ol Day one capacity
- 1:34Speaker 1: increased to twenty seven thousand passion trips. I mean they
- 1:37Speaker 1: told us that number when they were wanting the money
- 1:40Speaker 1: and the public support, and now that we're nearly finished,
- 1:43Speaker 1: they are actually saying no, no, no, we don't want
- 1:46Speaker 1: to oversupply. This has just been I mean, what is this.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Oh look, it's outrageous at fifty four thousand was the
- 1:53Speaker 2: number that was first out and I know a number
- 1:55Speaker 2: of businesses remember that figure very very clearly, and there
- 1:59Speaker 2: were changes is made to get to the capacity. Now
- 2:03Speaker 2: it clearly looks like we're going to have to grow
- 2:05Speaker 2: into this. And you know, we're optimistic looking out, but
- 2:08Speaker 2: right here and now, the financial impact it has been
- 2:11Speaker 2: as incredibly hard as I'm sure you will recall. To
- 2:15Speaker 2: get the financial impacts on the businesses effective even listened to,
- 2:20Speaker 2: let alone any sort of decent support for them. So
- 2:23Speaker 2: it's pretty rich to hear this now, and I do
- 2:26Speaker 2: think there needs to be accountability. Look, we are really
- 2:29Speaker 2: concerned with how access business impacts have been managed for
- 2:32Speaker 2: a very long time. Here we keep getting you know,
- 2:35Speaker 2: it gets fobbed away as this is all going to
- 2:38Speaker 2: come right when this thing opens. It's clearly going to
- 2:41Speaker 2: take time to get to the numbers needed. And it's
- 2:44Speaker 2: not okay that the effects they've had. I mean, the
- 2:47Speaker 2: real is you look at some of the streets, they've
- 2:49Speaker 2: basically compromised access for people with a nobility disabilities needing
- 2:55Speaker 2: service and loading, and there's some extraordinarily bad decisions that
- 2:59Speaker 2: have been made on the basis at by day one,
- 3:01Speaker 2: we need this thing perfect.
