- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D. All right, welcome
- 0:06Speaker 1: back to Real Talk with Mike D. I am the one,
- 0:09Speaker 1: the only, and the original Mike D. Thank you for
- 0:13Speaker 1: being here. Thank you for listening. And as always, I
- 0:16Speaker 1: do appreciate you. Ladies and gentlemen, happy Halloween. We are here.
- 0:21Speaker 1: It is finally that time of the year. It's that
- 0:25Speaker 1: time of the year where the ghosts and goblins come
- 0:27Speaker 1: out to scare everybody. It's that night of the year
- 0:29Speaker 1: when the kids get to dress up like monsters, superheroes, princesses, ghosts, vampires, witches,
- 0:36Speaker 1: and just about anything else their little imaginations can come
- 0:39Speaker 1: up with. And let's be honest, Halloween is one of
- 0:43Speaker 1: those holidays that brings out the kid in all of us.
- 0:46Speaker 1: It's about the costumes, the decorations, the spooky music. Uh-oh.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Maybe the pumpkins, the candy. And of course going door
- 1:00Speaker 1: to door yelling those three famous words. Trick or treat!
- 1:05Speaker 1: And I don't know about you, but there's something special
- 1:07Speaker 1: about Halloween. You see the excitement on children's faces. You
- 1:11Speaker 1: see families walking around the neighborhoods. You see houses decorated
- 1:15Speaker 1: with skeletons, ghosts and spiders and inflatable monsters that are
- 1:19Speaker 1: so big they practically need their own zip code. And
- 1:23Speaker 1: suddenly everybody seems to be in a better mood. So today,
- 1:28Speaker 1: we're talking about Halloween. We're talking about trick-or-treating. We're talking
- 1:32Speaker 1: about kids dressing up and eating way, way too much
- 1:36Speaker 1: candy and just getting into that wonderful holiday spirit. Because,
- 1:41Speaker 1: ladies and gentlemen, before you know it, Thanksgiving and Christmas
- 1:46Speaker 1: will be knocking on the door. Now, let's take a
- 1:51Speaker 1: little trip down memory lane. Remember when Halloween was all
- 1:54Speaker 1: about putting on a costume, grabbing a pillowcase or a
- 1:57Speaker 1: plastic pumpkin, and running around the neighborhood collecting candy? You
- 2:02Speaker 1: didn't need an expensive costume. You didn't need some fancy
- 2:05Speaker 1: Halloween production. You just needed something to wear, a place
- 2:10Speaker 1: to go, and enough energy to walk around the neighborhood
- 2:13Speaker 1: for about maybe two to three hours. And let's face it,
- 2:18Speaker 1: kids back then took trick-or-treating seriously. You weren't out there
- 2:23Speaker 1: casually collecting candy. No, no, no, no, no. You were
- 2:27Speaker 1: on a mission. You had neighborhoods to conquer. You had
- 2:32Speaker 1: houses to visit. And you had candy to collect. And
- 2:38Speaker 1: you had absolutely no intention of going home until that
- 2:41Speaker 1: bag was practically impossible to lift. And parents would say, okay,
- 2:48Speaker 1: just one more street. And you're like, one more street?
- 2:51Speaker 1: Are you kidding me? There were still 20 houses down
- 2:55Speaker 1: that street. And now let's talk about the costumes because
- 3:01Speaker 1: some kids, they wanted to be Superman. Some wanted to
- 3:04Speaker 1: be Batman. Others wanted to be witches, ghosts, or vampires. However,
- 3:11Speaker 1: there's always that one kid who showed up wearing something
- 3:14Speaker 1: that you couldn't even identify. You'd ask, what are you
- 3:18Speaker 1: supposed to be? And they would say, I'm a monster. Well, congratulations,
- 3:24Speaker 1: you look like one. But that's the beauty of Halloween.
- 3:28Speaker 1: It's imagination. It's creativity. It's having fun and letting kids
- 3:34Speaker 1: be kids. You know, have you seen some of the
- 3:39Speaker 1: costumes that kids wear today? Some of these costumes are incredible.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I mean, you've got superheroes. You've got Disney characters. You've
- 3:49Speaker 1: got movie characters. You've got dinosaurs and scary clowns and
- 3:53Speaker 1: everything in between. And some parents, they go all out.
- 3:59Speaker 1: And I'm talking about costumes that look like they belong
- 4:02Speaker 1: in a Hollywood movie. Meanwhile, some of us adults are
- 4:06Speaker 1: standing there thinking, I hope nobody expects me to dress
- 4:10Speaker 1: up because, let's be honest, when you're an adult, sometimes
- 4:13Speaker 1: putting on a Halloween costume feels like a full-time job.
- 4:17Speaker 1: You start thinking about comfort. You start thinking, can I
- 4:22Speaker 1: sit down in this thing? Am I going to be
- 4:24Speaker 1: able to breathe in this costume? Can I get through
- 4:29Speaker 1: this evening without sweating? And most importantly, can I get
- 4:34Speaker 1: this costume off without needing assistance? But watching kids get
- 4:39Speaker 1: excited about their costumes is something special. They get to
- 4:44Speaker 1: become something else for a night. They get to use
- 4:47Speaker 1: their imagination to And you can see how proud they
- 4:50Speaker 1: are when somebody compliments what they're wearing. That is what
- 4:55Speaker 1: Halloween should be about. It should be about making memories,
- 4:59Speaker 1: laughing and having fun. And enjoying those little moments that
- 5:03Speaker 1: sometimes pass us by way too quickly. Now, let's move
- 5:10Speaker 1: on to the most important part of Halloween. No, it's
- 5:14Speaker 1: not the costumes. Yep, you guessed it. It is the candy.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Let's talk about the real reason some people get excited
- 5:24Speaker 1: about Halloween. And no, I'm not talking about the kids.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I'm talking about the adults. Because let's be honest, some
- 5:32Speaker 1: parents are just as excited about Halloween as their kids are.
- 5:39Speaker 1: But they're excited about the candy. You know, you buy
- 5:44Speaker 1: a bag of candy to hand out on Trick or Treat.
- 5:48Speaker 1: And it's sitting there and you're looking at it and
- 5:50Speaker 1: you're like, well, I'm just going to have one piece.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Then you open the bag and you take that one piece.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Then you take another. And suddenly you're looking at an
- 6:06Speaker 1: empty bag wondering, what the hell happened to all the candy?
- 6:11Speaker 1: And you're blaming the kids. Who ate all the candy? Well, Apparently,
- 6:17Speaker 1: it was the adult standing in the kitchen. And you know,
- 6:22Speaker 1: everybody has their favorite Halloween candy. I know I do.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Tell me, what is your favorite Halloween candy? All of
- 6:30Speaker 1: you out there listening right now, what is your favorite
- 6:34Speaker 1: Halloween candy? Is it a Hershey's chocolate bar? Maybe a Snickers?
- 6:41Speaker 1: A Reese's peanut butter cup? a Kit Kat, maybe M
- 6:47Speaker 1: & M' s, maybe a Twix, maybe a Milky Way, or
- 6:53Speaker 1: maybe it's just a piece of that sugary candy. Or maybe,
- 6:59Speaker 1: just maybe, it's that very much disgusting candy corn. Now,
- 7:07Speaker 1: I know candy corn is controversial. Some people love it.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Some people absolutely hate it. That would be me. I
- 7:15Speaker 1: absolutely hate candy corn. You know, personally, I think candy
- 7:24Speaker 1: corn is one of those Halloween mysteries that deserves its
- 7:29Speaker 1: own investigation. You know, and what about the houses that
- 7:32Speaker 1: give out the good candy? You know what I'm talking about.
- 7:35Speaker 1: You know what houses I'm talking about. The ones where
- 7:38Speaker 1: the kids come running back saying, that house gives out
- 7:41Speaker 1: full-size candy bars. Suddenly, everybody wants to know where that
- 7:48Speaker 1: house is. That is the neighborhood celebrity right there. Any
- 7:53Speaker 1: house that gives out full-size candy bars, that, ladies and gentlemen,
- 7:58Speaker 1: is the neighborhood celebrity right there. And then, and then,
- 8:08Speaker 1: there's the house that gives out raisins. Who the hell
- 8:12Speaker 1: gives out raisins on Halloween? Come on, it's Halloween. We're
- 8:16Speaker 1: here for the candy, not the freaking raisins. Throw that
- 8:20Speaker 1: shit in the trash. Hand out chocolate bars. But seriously,
- 8:29Speaker 1: whether it's chocolate, lollipops, gummy bears, or a little bag
- 8:33Speaker 1: of treats, Halloween candy is part of the tradition. Well,
- 8:41Speaker 1: ladies and gentlemen, that is going to do it for
- 8:43Speaker 1: today's episode. I hope you all have a fantastic Halloween.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I hope you all get tons of candy. And I
- 8:52Speaker 1: hope you all do not get raisins or candy corn.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Those two things should be illegal. But I am going
- 9:02Speaker 1: to leave you with a little bit of Halloween music
- 9:04Speaker 1: for your enjoyment. I hope you all enjoy the ghosts
- 9:32Speaker 1: and goblins. I hope you all have a great evening.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I hope you all get a sugar high from all
- 9:42Speaker 1: your candies. Stay safe. Enjoy Halloween. And I will see
- 9:51Speaker 1: you all in the next episode.
