North Carolina Digital IDs Launching | Wilmington News
North Carolina is launching free digital driver’s licenses and IDs by end of 2026—legally identical to physical cards, secure, and compatible with major phone wallets. They’ll work at 250+ airports and some police stations, but not yet all stores or restaurants. Scanning your phone via special readers only accesses ID info—not your texts or photos—and won’t track your device.
