- 0:16Speaker 2: The Lux Radio Theater reprins to Margaret O'Brien, James Craig,
- 0:20Speaker 2: Marsha Hunt and Keenan Wynne in Lost Angel. Ladies and gentlemen,
- 0:26Speaker 2: your producer, mister Cecil Bead the mill a greetings from Hollywood,
- 0:37Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen. The entire company of the Lux Radio
- 0:40Speaker 2: Theater has been under a magic spell.
- 0:42Speaker 1: This week.
- 0:43Speaker 2: We fall m victim to the charm of Miss Margaret O'Brien,
- 0:48Speaker 2: age seven. We have wooed her favor with ice cream
- 0:52Speaker 2: corne and peppermint Candace, and she has rewarded us by
- 0:55Speaker 2: treating us as equals. That's about the greatest compliment that
- 1:00Speaker 2: a child can pay to adult. Co starring with Margaret,
- 1:04Speaker 2: James Craig, Marsha Hunt and Keenan Wynn. They were all
- 1:09Speaker 2: with her in the Metro Goldron Mayor picture Lost Angel,
- 1:12Speaker 2: the drama that takes the fut light in this theater tonight.
- 1:16Speaker 1: This week, Metro.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Goldrien Mayor is celebrating twenty years of fine picture making
- 1:21Speaker 2: with a new one that's been much talked about, the
- 1:25Speaker 2: White Cliffs of Dover. During those twenty years, the studio
- 1:29Speaker 2: has discovered a distinguished line of famous artists, but none
- 1:33Speaker 2: I think more promising than our little Margaret O'Brien. Lost
- 1:37Speaker 2: Angel is a delightful story of a very small girl
- 1:41Speaker 2: who feels a certain responsibility for the affairs of her friends,
- 1:45Speaker 2: particularly affairs of romance. I believe tonight Mark's rather a
- 1:50Speaker 2: special occasion for the Lux Radio Theater because it's the
- 1:53Speaker 2: first time we've had a star who wasn't born, even
- 1:58Speaker 2: when the first play was presented in the National Theater
- 2:01Speaker 2: by Lux Toiletoat, which means our whole generation has more
- 2:05Speaker 2: or less grown up with our program. The first birthday party, the.
- 2:09Speaker 1: First date, graduation day.
- 2:11Speaker 2: In all of these, our product has played its own
- 2:14Speaker 2: little role. Needless to say, we're firm believers in the
- 2:18Speaker 2: theory that beauty is never too young to learn.
- 2:21Speaker 1: About Lux Toilet Soap.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Now our cast is on the stage, and here's the
- 2:25Speaker 2: curtain for AQ one of Los Angels, darring Margaret O'Brien
- 2:29Speaker 2: as Alpha, James Craig as Mike, Marsha Hunt as Katie,
- 2:34Speaker 2: and Keenan Wynne as Packy. His name is Mike Reagan,
- 2:47Speaker 2: Mike's recorder. He doesn't wear his hat on the back
- 2:50Speaker 2: of his head, cigarettes never dangle from the corner of
- 2:53Speaker 2: his mouth, and he has never considered writing a novel.
- 2:57Speaker 2: But in spite of these handicaps, Mike Reagan is promising
- 3:00Speaker 2: news gatherer. I'm the New York Morning Fans Peppers right now,
- 3:04Speaker 2: in fact, the promising something to a very bewitching young lady.
- 3:10Speaker 1: And I'm awfully sorry, Katie, but we can go next week.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Huh that's a promise.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Well, if you have to work, chum, you have to.
- 3:16Speaker 1: It's that pack your roo's case. The cops. Just I've
- 3:18Speaker 1: got to do a follow up story.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Okay, next week, Sandy.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Katie, you're a wonderful girl. You know what I exist
- 3:24Speaker 2: about you?
- 3:25Speaker 3: Sure, I have a pretty good voice that pays off
- 3:28Speaker 3: with a pretty good salary from a pretty good night club.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I don't cost you much.
- 3:32Speaker 2: You'll find it hard to believe, but that's not it.
- 3:34Speaker 1: The thing I like most is if you're not one
- 3:36Speaker 1: of those whinny cleaning bine dangers works. My guy's got
- 3:39Speaker 1: work to do. Oh hi, you, Katie. The boss wants
- 3:42Speaker 1: to see you. Mike. Let him. I'll be right there.

- 4:13Speaker 1: Kat And this racket there, there are uh lot of
- 4:16Speaker 1: things a guy has to do.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Their obligations, obligations to what Mike, you have only two
- 4:20Speaker 3: real obligations. One is to your job and the other
- 4:23Speaker 3: is to me.

- 4:33Speaker 2: dinner with me tonight, really, let me have it.
- 4:35Speaker 3: And while I'm making speeches, you'll be figuring out how
- 4:38Speaker 3: you can get away early and still make that poker game.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Oh no, Katie, I'll be listening. I'd be heal if
- 4:44Speaker 1: I didn't. You will come, won't you? Donning? It means
- 4:47Speaker 1: a lot to me.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Well, I oh that's wonderful, baby, You'll be sorry, Katie.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Oh alright, pick me up at eight thirty, eighth thirty.

- 5:03Speaker 1: The things you'll get away with. And now then you
- 5:06Speaker 1: wanted to see me art.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah, when you went to Harvard, did you know a
- 5:08Speaker 2: professor there named Vinson?
- 5:10Speaker 1: Vincent?
- 5:10Speaker 2: Oh, sure, psychology. He's in town now with the Pickering Institute.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Then drag yourself down there and see they've got a
- 5:16Speaker 2: baby genius.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Get an interview. But I'm all tied up with a
- 5:19Speaker 1: pack of roose case Packy's in jail.
- 5:20Speaker 4: The case is over and not quit stalling.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Listen, will you.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I'm in no mood for the patter of little feet
- 5:25Speaker 2: in the clutch of little hands.
- 5:26Speaker 6: No, okay, there's a poetry show that has to be covered.
- 5:30Speaker 6: Pickering Institute, Hickering Institute.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I thought you said. I'm on my.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Way again, Reagan.
- 5:46Speaker 5: But as far as the child is concerned, impossible. You're
- 5:48Speaker 5: by no means ready to contact the press.
- 5:50Speaker 1: I understand your point of view completely.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Professor Vinson's imagine the cheap sensational stories it might be

- 6:05Speaker 1: a kid just a moment.
- 6:07Speaker 5: There are certain facts I first wished to make clear.
- 6:10Speaker 5: For years, the Pickering Institute searched for a child upon
- 6:12Speaker 5: whom we could make certain experiments that may revolutionize the
- 6:15Speaker 5: entire educational system. Yeah, six years ago in Alpha was
- 6:19Speaker 5: three days old. She was brought to us by the
- 6:21Speaker 5: Foundling home. Any records of her parent and whatsoever. We
- 6:25Speaker 5: chose her because we found her physically and mentally.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Perfect for our purpose. Since then, the Pickering Institute has
- 6:31Speaker 1: been Alpha's home.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Here she has had every attention, every kind, and you've
- 6:36Speaker 2: given her the works.
- 6:37Speaker 1: We have been her teachers and her friend.
- 6:39Speaker 5: Alpha knows nothing of the outside world, but her knowledge
- 6:41Speaker 5: of such subjects as music, geometry, Chinese and history may
- 6:45Speaker 5: startle even eur Regan.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I'm ready to be startled very well.
- 6:48Speaker 5: Go inside and stripped, I thought, she said, strip I did.
- 6:53Speaker 5: Doctor Woodring will examine it. If you're in good health,
