- 0:39I started this podcast in honor of my father, Patrick Cain, who often said, Why Not Today?
- 0:44Remember, you're just one decision away from changing your life.
- 0:47And I'm excited today for my guest, which we've never met in person, but Alicia Harrison,
- 0:53hopefully, get her name right.
- 0:56My sister has the same name.
- 0:57Spelled the same name, pronounced differently.
- 0:59Harrison with Flip the Chick, which is funny.
- 1:05I need to introduce you to another friend of mine who has a podcast, Flip the Chip, talks
- 1:14about...
- 1:15Potato chips?
- 1:16No, nail polish.
- 1:17She actually started...
- 1:20Oh, nice!
- 1:21She started... she has several books around being bodacious.
- 1:28Awesome.
- 1:29And she... one of the chapters is Live Like the Color of Your Nail Polish.
- 1:35Oh, it's awesome.
- 1:36And so she started a whole podcast, and she's been on my podcast.
- 1:39Her name is Mary Foley, and it's called Flip the Chip.
- 1:42Awesome.
- 1:43And it happens, and we need to have to take a new path.
- 1:47So, okay, total score all there.
- 1:49I love that.
- 1:51So, Alicia, I met, and I love how the connections are.
- 1:56I have a friend of mine who's been on the podcast as well, Tamara, who lives in Florida.
- 2:01And I guess you guys kind of met by accident too.
- 2:04She went to an event, if I remember correctly, an event with a friend.
- 2:07The friend didn't show up, and you guys... you met and hit it off.
- 2:11And so she introduced me to you, and I love what you stand for.
- 2:14I love your vision boards.
- 2:16Of course, you've got one at your shoulder, the things you've done, and we could probably
- 2:21talk for hours.
- 2:22So, I'm going to have you quickly introduce yourself and a fun fact about you, and then
- 2:27we'll talk about courage.
- 2:28Awesome.
- 2:29Well, thank you very much for having me, Leslie.
- 2:31I do appreciate it.
- 2:33And meeting through Tamara was amazing because I love... she's a client of mine in the Flip
- 2:38this Chip program.
- 2:40And she actually not only is doing great herself, she invited another friend to be part of it,
- 2:46and that friend has had the most amazing impact on her life that I'm like, wow, Tamara was
- 2:52meant to connect all these people and places.
- 2:55So she's pretty incredible, and I'm so excited to be her friend.
- 3:00Yeah.
- 3:01What was that?
- 3:02Hasn't been working with you that long, has she?
- 3:04No, six weeks.
- 3:05Yeah.
- 3:06Six weeks.
- 3:07And we met because she came to a fun book club event that we did to just tour some murals
- 3:13and stuff here in Sarasota.
- 3:15And yeah, it was very cool.
- 3:17So anyway, I'm excited.
- 3:19So let's hear about you.
- 3:20So I want to tell you that I am a women's health coach.
- 3:24I coach women who are in the struggles of menopause, perimenopause, and beyond, because
- 3:31I have a history in personal training.
- 3:35I ran the training division of health clubs, but got out of that when I moved to Florida,
- 3:39I was just in real estate and modeled design and things like that.
- 3:43When menopause hit me and put on 25 pounds, I was like, okay, wait, I need to revisit
- 3:49this other stuff.
- 3:51And I was eating right and doing all the things.
- 3:54So the fact that it affected me, I knew it must be affecting a lot of other women too.
- 3:59We were just talking about that earlier today about how the things in our life that happened
- 4:04to us propel us into businesses.
- 4:06Yes.
- 4:07And to help somebody else.
- 4:09Yeah.
- 4:10And really it's to serve others, like that's why we're on this earth, is to serve others.
- 4:15So if we can find a way to be passionate about it and do it, that's cool.
- 4:19But I am a mother of four boys.
- 4:22I have four grandkids, another one on the way next month.
- 4:25And I have three girls.
- 4:29I have three girls.
- 4:30Oh, good.
- 4:31And one little boy, and we don't know what's coming next.
- 4:34So we're excited.
- 4:35We'll take anything.
- 4:36They're all the light of my life.
- 4:39And so I live here in Sarasota, Florida with my boyfriend who is from Boston and he has
- 4:43four kids too.
- 4:44So we live our lives in motion, simply making sure we don't miss anything, but we have a
- 4:49great life of our own too.
- 4:51So what's a fun fact about you?
- 4:53Fun fact about me is that I have ran more than a dozen marathons and I did the six world
- 5:00major marathons, which include London, Boston, New York, Chicago, Berlin and Tokyo.
- 5:05Wow.
- 5:06I was in the span of my 40th decade.
- 5:09And so that is really cool.
- 5:12And regardless of what turmoil my life brought a divorce and move across the country and
- 5:17different things, I stayed focused on that goal.
- 5:21And four months before my 50th birthday, I earned the six star medal as I crossed the
- 5:26Boston finish line.
- 5:27So that's been really cool.
- 5:31And helps me just keep treading forward.
- 5:34I love people's inspiring stories.
- 5:36I have episode, I think it was 20 was, I don't remember that because I was just with her,
- 5:42Chris Howard who hiked the Appalachian Trail and she just spoke at a luncheon that I had
- 5:46and talked about the lessons she learned.
- 5:49That is amazing.
- 5:50And yeah, and yeah, so many cool things.
- 5:53So let's talk about courage.
- 5:55So obviously it took courage to do that.
- 5:58And courage to, I know you have good courage stories, but what's the definition of courage?
- 6:04So honestly, like I'm sure you hear from many when you ask this question, I believe courage
- 6:11is just doing something afraid.
- 6:14But Hal Elrod in his book, The Miracle Equation says it best, having unwavering faith and
- 6:22putting forth extraordinary effort.
- 6:25That is exactly what courage is to me.
- 6:28Yep.
- 6:29I read that book and I have quoted that often.
- 6:31Yes.
- 6:32I read that and I'm like, you know, the times in my life when real miracles happened, it
- 6:37was because that's exactly what I was doing.
- 6:39Having unwavering faith, but putting forth extraordinary effort.
- 6:43You got to back it up.
- 6:45So when we talked the other day, we had lots of different things in your courage of life.
- 6:52And but one of the things I loved is how you took a health issue of yours, turned it and
- 6:59let's talk about that story of how you like figured out how to help yourself and then
- 7:05how you were kind of forced through losing a job into creating a business.
- 7:09And I love how you just rubble like, okay, this is the income I need to replace and this
- 7:14is how fast I need to do it.
- 7:15And you did it.
- 7:16So what's about those courage stories?
- 7:18Yeah, absolutely.
- 7:20And you know, some of it, we all have courageous things that happen in our life, you know,
- 7:25and they do happen out of by accident, right?
- 7:28We don't like run out there and decide, oh, I'm going to be courageous today.
- 7:32We're like, no, I don't need to be courageous today.
- 7:36Actually, you know, we just want to have a good normal day.
- 7:41But when things happen, you decide, wait, what am I going to dig into here?
- 7:46And you know, whenever you do talk about the career that I'm in now as a health coach,
- 7:52it was, I was propelled into that because one day I got an email that said, hey, today
- 8:00can we just hop on, you know, a call.
- 8:03But before I got that call, some of the things that were going on in my life was like I said,
- 8:10when menopause hit me and I put on 25 pounds, I was like, I got to figure out something
- 8:14different.
- 8:16And having a background in personal training, I gave it a shot and I'm like, hey, I want
- 8:20to figure something out that's quick and just gets me right back.
- 8:23I need to get in sync because I'm not even recognizing myself.
- 8:26I don't feel good.
- 8:27I go in the closet and I'm not happy about what I put on.
- 8:30I have to change seven times.
- 8:32I can't wear, you know, anything that now I'm like square and I was never square, you
- 8:39know, and I'm like, what is happening?
- 8:42And so I really did say, I'm going to try this.
- 8:45I'm going to just put my head in and create my own program instead of creating it for
- 8:50a client like I would have in the past.
- 8:52And so I did, I started and four weeks in, I failed.
- 8:59Like I just didn't keep doing it.
- 9:01And I was like, what?
- 9:03I know what to do.
- 9:05I know how to do it.
- 9:06I know, like, geez.
- 9:08And so, you know, I just walked off.
- 9:11I'm like, okay.
- 9:12You're stopping us.
- 9:13Yeah, it's not the end.
- 9:15And so I dug a little deeper and I put in place a few more things, accountability, gratitude,
- 9:22and things like that.
- 9:23Instead of just what am I eating and how am I moving?
- 9:26I added in these elements that are now part of the flip the chick program and I tried
- 9:31again and by week six, I was flabbergasted.
- 9:36I'm like, this is a thing.
- 9:39Like, holy cow.
- 9:40I just went and bought a pair of shorts in the regular section.
- 9:44I didn't have to go to a store where the clothes go straight up or they don't have zippers.
- 9:48And, you know, like, I'm like, oh my gosh, this is awesome.
- 9:53And so I then said, wait, but here I am either this is a do or die.
- 9:59Like either I say right now, you guys, I created this thing.
- 10:04And here's what's happening.
- 10:06I have to do it in real time.
- 10:08All right.
- 10:09Or I don't get to do it because, you know, it's going to lose its vigor if I'm not doing
- 10:14it like that.
- 10:15So I'm like, all right, then I need to start talking about it.
- 10:19And so I did.
- 10:20I went on social media and I started saying, oh my gosh, here I am doing this and two weeks
- 10:24from today, I am going to launch a new program when I put myself through.
- 10:30So keep an eye out.
- 10:32That was it.
- 10:33I had to, I had to do it now.
- 10:35Right.
- 10:36And that's how my brain works.
- 10:37Somebody asked me one time is if you're the type of person that you make a decision for
- 10:41something you set the date and then you plan it or do you, or you plan it and then set
- 10:48the date or you plan it, set the date and then just make it happen.
- 10:52I'm like, I am so like, I'm going to put it out there and then I'm going to figure it
- 10:56out.
- 10:57Yes.
- 10:58Say yes and figure out how.
- 10:59Exactly.
- 11:00Yeah.
- 11:01You've got your original just never happened.
- 11:03So yep.
- 11:04So I put those wheels in motion and that last day I threw a big party had everybody over
- 11:09and was like, okay, this was fantastic.
- 11:12Here's what this was.
- 11:13And I started talking about it and I, you know, I introduced it as the flip this chick
- 11:18program.
- 11:19It was going to be an eight week program and here's what's going on.
- 11:22And I was working though.
- 11:23I worked from home and I was doing, you know, 45 hours a week on my computer and doing that.
- 11:29But every day I took a few minutes to pick up my vision board that and look at it and
- 11:35really believe like, you know, here's what I want in my life.
- 11:38I want to be helping women feel more connected.
- 11:41I want to get out there and be active.
- 11:43I want to do all these things and I would pick up my vision board once a day.
- 11:47I set up timer and it's part of what we do.
- 11:50I set a timer once a day and I just took a minute, but I would physically pick it up
- 11:53and hold it and like look through all the things, you know, and on there is like writing
- 11:57a book and, and creating flip this chick and, and, and soul designers as a group, I put
- 12:04together that we do a walk and talk on Wednesdays, all these things that were like really important
- 12:09to me.
- 12:10And I pick it up every day and look at it and I'm like, yeah, this is what I want to
- 12:15see it for.
- 12:17And that went about for like three weeks and comes a Friday, my boss sends me a note and
- 12:24says, Hey, can you hop on a call at four o'clock and make sure, you know, that's not unusual.
- 12:30By 405, I didn't have a job.
- 12:33Wow.
- 12:34I didn't not only have a job, the paycheck I got that day was going to be the last one
- 12:39I got.
- 12:40Oh, wow.
- 12:41And I'm like, wait, what?
- 12:44No warning.
- 12:45I, you know, that no, we're just eliminating the position.
- 12:47I'm like, not just put me in a different department.
- 12:50Like, no.
- 12:52So I was like, wait, okay, okay, wait, that means this paycheck I'm getting today is would
- 12:58cover the next two weeks, right?
- 13:00And then I get another paycheck that's not coming, but that gives me two weeks, right?
- 13:05Like, okay, I can live for two weeks, breathe, Alicia, you're going to be okay.
- 13:09You're getting today's paycheck and just calm down and figure out what's next.
- 13:14And so I spent that weekend really wrapping my head around, you know, I've been wanting
- 13:20to do this other stuff anyway.
- 13:23Maybe this was just gifted to me.
- 13:25So I now have the time to do the things I'm passionate about, Alicia, look at this as
- 13:32a gift and make it happen.
- 13:34And actually one of my kids said, you know, every time I hear somebody loses a job, I
- 13:39say congratulations.
- 13:40Well, you know, it's so interesting when you say that and you looked at it from, okay,
- 13:47this is a blessing.
- 13:48Thank goodness you already kind of had an idea.
- 13:51And it may have taken years for you to launch it if you were still getting that paycheck
- 13:55one, you didn't have the time to you didn't have the wire, the have to.
- 14:00And so having to have that have to sometimes, you know, we always hear God closes the door
- 14:05to open a window.
- 14:08And you kind of have, you have to get it done.
- 14:10Always talk about time or activities expand for the time we have available.
- 14:15If you have all weekend to clean your house, then how long to take you to clean your house?
- 14:21Your mother-in-law is showing up in 20 minutes.
- 14:23How long does it take you?
- 14:2420 minutes.
- 14:25And so, you know, the time is going to, the could have taken you years to get off the
- 14:31ground, but you now you had a big Y and, you know, before, I don't know, you may have said,
- 14:36oh, I'm tired or the sun's out.
- 14:38I want to go to the beach.
- 14:39We have all these excuses, but it sounds like you just put your head down and you're like,
- 14:42I got to get this done.
- 14:43Well, I had to, I had exactly two weeks to get myself a paycheck.
- 14:48Yeah.
- 14:49The next Friday paycheck, right?
- 14:52So, so I did.
- 14:53I put my head down and said, you know, you know, one thing in reflecting on that was
- 15:00that very weekend I was chatting with my dad about it and saying, you know, I think it's
- 15:04cool that now I have the time and I picked up my vision board as I was talking to him.
- 15:08And I said, wow, you know, the only thing not on this board this year is my job.
- 15:16Wow.
- 15:17I'm like, dad, I think I might have done this myself.
- 15:21Like, I'm like, I spend a minute every day looking at all the things I wanted.
- 15:27And in years past, my vision board had that job on there and how much I wanted to earn
- 15:32and what I wanted to do in that.
- 15:34And I left it out.
- 15:35It wasn't anything I wanted to be a part of anymore.
- 15:39And so I knew then that I was like, no, this is definite.
- 15:43I just need to figure out how.
- 15:46So I put my head down.
- 15:47I put up a website.
- 15:49I got on GoDaddy.
- 15:50I'm like, how do I do this?
- 15:51In 24 hours, I created a website and hunting and packing myself.
- 15:56And then I'm like, okay, now I need to actually make the program like a written program.
- 16:02And I know how to train clients, but I had already always done it in person.
- 16:06You know, I didn't ever have to write something down.
- 16:09And so it was a matter of like, wow, I got to create a PDF and then I got to have time
- 16:15to talk about it.
- 16:16I got to find the people.
- 16:18And so I gave myself a week to create the website and the PDF.
- 16:22And then I said, all right, I've got to have that done by Monday so that I have Monday
- 16:26to Monday to find the clients.
- 16:28And it would take me five clients to replicate the paycheck that I would have had this next
- 16:33Friday.
- 16:34And so I'm like, this is you or I.
- 16:36That's what has to happen.
- 16:38And it's exactly what happened.
- 16:40Wow.
- 16:41And the next month I had five more clients.
- 16:43And I was like, why saying five?
- 16:46Exactly.
- 16:47I need more.
- 16:48I'm like, I got up the ante here.
- 16:51Why am I doing this?
- 16:52I'm actually putting myself in a box, you know, and you can't.
- 16:58You have to decide.
- 16:59Like, yes, we can just do it right this minute and we're limitless.
- 17:05You know, we really are.
- 17:06And with this world of, you know, Google and YouTube, you can figure out anything.
- 17:12There's somebody that talks, wrote a book about everything to figure out about.
- 17:14Right.
- 17:15And then we had to figure out.
- 17:18It's like, we put the time to figure it out.
- 17:22And I love your thing about deadlines, that having that deadline.
- 17:27And I work very well with deadlines.
- 17:29Like, okay, that has to be done by tomorrow and it'll be done by tomorrow.
- 17:32A couple of weeks ago I was going out of town and I'm like, all right, a couple of things
- 17:35that are on my to-do list forever.
- 17:36I'm like, they've got to get done.
- 17:38Yes.
- 17:39And when we have a deadline and a hard deadline, we get those things done.
- 17:44Yeah.
- 17:45And you know, I've learned a lot from Brendan Bouchard.
- 17:48He has, yes, he has an app, the growth day app.
- 17:51Have you gotten it?
- 17:52Yes.
- 17:53I listen to him every morning.
- 17:54Okay.
- 17:55One of the things he says, and I have taken this to heart this year, is he encourages
- 18:02us to create Friday finishers.
- 18:05And so that at the beginning of your week, you decide, what is it that's primary needs
- 18:11to be accomplished before Friday?
- 18:12And you know what, if your life is crazy and you don't remember to even come up with him
- 18:16and suddenly it's one o'clock on Thursday or noon on Friday, you're like, wait, I need
- 18:21to, what do I actually have to have finished by the end of the work day to day?
- 18:26And I've been doing that.
- 18:28And that's pretty cool.
- 18:29It is that deadline where when you're self-employed or you work from home and you're even employed
- 18:35by someone else, or you can always do it tomorrow, right?
- 18:39Right.
- 18:40One of the reasons I travel a lot is because I am self-employed and I can work all the
- 18:45time.
- 18:46Right.
- 18:47And you know, again, that time expands.
- 18:48And so I travel and I'm like, okay, before I leave, this, this must be done.
- 18:53Exactly.
- 18:54I don't know about you, but before vacation too, you know, when you're on vacation, all
- 18:58these things that have been on your to-do list forever that have nothing to do with the
- 19:02vacation, like I remember what time it was, get some jewelry fixed.
- 19:05I'm like, who really cares?
- 19:07But it's like, all right, clear all the stuff out.
- 19:09Get you a deadline.
- 19:10Yeah.
- 19:11I also learned long ago, my kids range from 23 to 35 years old.
- 19:17And so 35 years ago, I learned that as my kids would leave to go to their dads, I'm
- 19:23like, you know, instead of spending the whole weekend while they're gone cleaning, I finally
- 19:29said, I'm going to make sure the house is clean.
- 19:31So when I deliver them, it's clean the whole time.
- 19:35Yeah.
- 19:36I can just enjoy my quiet time.
- 19:37That's for you.
- 19:38The house stays that way, right?
- 19:39So those are some of the things you've got to put a limit on yourself.
- 19:44It's the same as when I decided to run the marathons.
- 19:46I was 39 years old.
- 19:47I did the first one and I'm like, wait, you know what?
- 19:49I'm doing the six world majors in this decade between 40 and 50.
- 19:53If you don't give yourself parameters when the world is so big and there are no limits,
- 20:01you won't always get something done.
- 20:02You've got to say, why not today, right?
- 20:05Absolutely.
- 20:06And that's why I'm so passionate about this message that just need to do the things and
- 20:11I keep hearing so many incredible stories of people and the things they've done and
- 20:16just that.
- 20:17And it's also that pivotal moment that it's like, like I said in the introduction, enough
- 20:21is enough.
- 20:22Like I'm drawing the line in the sand and I actually a couple months ago, a month or
- 20:28so ago, I was having a frustrating day about something and it snowed and I literally, with
- 20:33my boots, put a line in the snow and walked over and done, you know?
- 20:38And so, you know, having to have those lines and those deadlines and I really think I do
- 20:44this podcast for me because I get so much good coaching, training, stories, inspiration.
- 20:49So, so let's go to that subject with the flip the chick.
- 20:54You know, what are some tips?
- 20:58Because a lot of my audience is women or are women and they're at that age and menopause.
- 21:03So what are some of the tricks and tips that you teach in your program?
- 21:07And I know you do the accountability part that Tamara actually had to have an accountability
- 21:13partner so we had to stay in touch, which was cool because it kind of pulled me in.
- 21:18So share some of your, what are your top tips of things that we should be doing as women
- 21:22over 40, 50?
- 21:24Yeah, I'm glad you asked.
- 21:26So with flip this chick, you know, I use the acronym to kind of talk about exactly what
- 21:32we do do and that is we make fitness fun.
- 21:36We do low intensity cardio.
- 21:39We incorporate protein, elevate that and create connections.
- 21:44I make sure women are learning how to honor themselves, treating their themselves as if
- 21:50they're worthy because, you know, L'Oreal taught us that decades ago, but do we really
- 21:56treat ourselves that way?
- 21:57Okay.
- 21:58So I'm going to interrupt you really quick about your worthy.
- 22:01Do you know about Jamie Kern, Lema and her book that just came out called Worthy?
- 22:07Yes.
- 22:08And she worked for L'Oreal after she sold IT Cosmetics.
- 22:11Oh, I didn't know.
- 22:12I did know she did IT Cosmetics.
- 22:13I didn't realize she was with L'Oreal before that.
- 22:18Well, no, she wasn't before.
- 22:19Oh.
- 22:20The story is pretty incredible.
- 22:21Yeah.
- 22:22She had Rosatia and so started a cosmetic company and sold it for 1.2 billion.
- 22:29I have read her book.
- 22:30And became the CEO, but she just came out with a book this week called Worthy.
- 22:34So you just had some fun.
- 22:35I saw that it was launching.
- 22:36Yeah.
- 22:37Yeah.
- 22:38I'm sorry for interrupting.
- 22:39So that's okay.
- 22:40It'll be on the top of my list because part of the Flip This Chick program is that we incorporate
- 22:45some books that you could listen to audio or whatever, but the Worthy project is one.
- 22:51I ordered that after talking to you.
- 22:53Yes.
- 22:54And then the miracle equation, Mel Robbins, a lot of different things.
- 22:58But anyway, some of the things I really recommend women do at this phase in our life, one is
- 23:05get more protein.
- 23:06They have proven that just getting enough protein can help change your body composition.
- 23:14But you have to know how much is enough.
- 23:18So I work with women on getting their macros correct.
- 23:22Macros is just fancy terminology for protein carbs and fat.
- 23:26Yeah.
- 23:27And so are the vitamins in there.
- 23:29So but, you know, to not be, you know, intimidated by what people are talking about, just find
- 23:35out what is it that your body needs.
- 23:37If your body gets what it needs, it'll get rid of what it doesn't.
- 23:40And that means we can actually shed belly fat.
- 23:44We work with strength training.
- 23:46It is so important.
- 23:48And I do love that they are finally talking about muscle centric medicine as a way to
- 23:54actually heal your body and stay healthy.
- 23:58Thank God.
- 23:59This is finally a conversation and they're not saying, oh, no, don't do that.
- 24:02Take a pill, you know.
- 24:04And so I am grateful that that's in the limelight now.
- 24:08And that's what we do.
- 24:09It's an eight week program.
- 24:11I now this January launched a 12 month program too, because I had so many women who had done
- 24:16the eight week program that were like, I just want you along my side for a while.
- 24:20I'm like, okay.
- 24:22So so that's pretty cool.
- 24:24So we have a combination of women doing both, but we meet every Monday night to do that.
- 24:31And then I meet one on one with clients and we do an individualized program.
- 24:37Really what works for them.
- 24:38We decide how, how does eating right look to you.
- 24:42I'm not trying to make them suddenly start cooking 45 minute meals three times a day.
- 24:48And I'm like, no, I live quick.
- 24:50I live in motion.
- 24:52And if that's how you live, I can help you with that too.
- 24:55If you want to cook slow, that's cool.
- 24:58Have at it.
- 24:59I have tons of recipe books on my website and things like that too.
- 25:04But it is so important that women have a guideline for what really is right for our body at this
- 25:10point.
- 25:11Because look, I was running hours a day, hours a day, because I was training for a marathon
- 25:15at 52.
- 25:16I did an ultra marathon and I still put on 25 pounds.
- 25:21So it's not that.
- 25:23Bad information.
- 25:24You're not moving.
- 25:25Yeah.
- 25:26And, you know, learning the new things.
- 25:29And as, you know, we're different ages, we need to do different things.
- 25:32Right.
- 25:33I'm not going to dive deep into this, but have you seen the news about what Weight Watchers
- 25:37is doing?
- 25:38No.
- 25:39I was on a, just, I was listening to a podcast that ended and it popped into another one.
- 25:43And I guess they're apologizing that they're sort of work for some people, but not everybody.
- 25:49I didn't listen to the whole thing, but they're talking about how medicine makes a difference
- 25:53and they're starting.
- 25:54Oh yeah.
- 25:55What you're, yeah, absolutely.
- 25:56Those first conversations.
- 25:57Those drugs that are so popular.
- 26:01So I'm not going to dive in.
- 26:03As I said, I want to deep dive in there.
- 26:05But yeah, so I love the stuff you're doing and I love what I'm hearing is so much inspiration.
- 26:12It's not just eat this, don't eat this exercise, but it's the vision boards.
- 26:17It's the books.
- 26:18It's the encouragement.
- 26:19It's the community that you're creating and the connections and the walk.
- 26:24The mindset.
- 26:25It is.
- 26:26That is all those things are so important.
- 26:29And when you surround yourself with like-minded people, it's going to feed and give you more
- 26:33motivation.
- 26:34Right.
- 26:35And you know, of course women lose weight, which is exciting.
- 26:39They feel better.
- 26:40Their body starts to change shape and they're like, oh my gosh, I can't believe my, my clothes
- 26:45fit different and you know, they kind of get surprised.
- 26:48I'm like, I'm told to it would work.
- 26:52But you know, I have to tell you this group of women that we have going on right now,
- 26:57because we do it eight weeks at a time.
- 26:59So they're in week seven right now.
- 27:03And last week when we met on Monday and everybody, we always start by sharing your wins and challenges
- 27:09for the week, one win and one challenge.
- 27:11And I am telling you that by week six, what they're talking about is no longer about weight.
- 27:20What they're talking about is how their life is different.
- 27:24And it is the most beautiful thing and so gratifying.
- 27:27And you know, one of the gals was like, oh my gosh, I have a new boyfriend and he's into
- 27:32fitness.
- 27:33So we're going for bike rides and we're doing this.
- 27:35I'm like, oh my gosh.
- 27:36And you know, she had just started dating, you know.
- 27:41And then another gala is a realtor and she's like, oh my gosh, I sold a house and I got
- 27:48a new buyer.
- 27:49And you know, I haven't for a long time.
- 27:52And I'm like, you guys, here's the thing.
- 27:54The people at the top of the heap in every industry across the board all prioritize their
- 28:01health.
- 28:02That is non-negotiable for people who are performing at their best.
- 28:08So if you just stop what you're doing, dead in your tracks and put your health and wellness
- 28:13first, the rest of your life will get more beautiful.
- 28:18It just can't not.
- 28:19And I was talking to somebody the opposite the other day who husband was sick and she
- 28:24was a caregiver and she's in some sales and she said that when she was being a caregiver,
- 28:32you know, of course she wasn't taking care of herself.
- 28:34Like the presentation she's always done that works so well, she was getting nothing.
- 28:40And unfortunately passed away and she started taking care of herself and doing things to
- 28:44give her joy.
- 28:45And the exact same presentation is getting her sales.
- 28:48Yes.
- 28:49You don't realize, you think, oh, nothing, you know, I'm still doing the exact same thing,
- 28:53but your energy is so different.
- 28:56Yes, absolutely.
- 28:57And it really is key.
- 28:58It just makes me so proud to see it and be like, look, this, and, you know, sometimes
- 29:04the caution is, well, do you think I'll keep doing it?
- 29:07I'm like, look, you're going to keep doing it because it actually changes your life.
- 29:11Of course you're going to do it.
- 29:12And the simple healthy habit shifts that we make make it possible.
- 29:16Right.
- 29:17You know, and our life changing like you can never, as soon as somebody says you can never
- 29:22again, then I'm like, give me all that I can get, you know, or bring.
- 29:28But we can talk about this subject all day long.
- 29:30And one of the things I keep thinking we're going different ways at this podcast, more
- 29:35deeper dives with some of my guests and give people a little more concrete.
- 29:40So we might do that.
- 29:41But so before we part, what, how would you encourage somebody to be courageous to do
- 29:47the things to quit the job, to start the business, to get their health in line?
- 29:54You know, here's the thing.
- 29:56You know, when I knew we were going to talk about that.
- 29:58I just want to remind everybody that everybody who is being successful right now, everyone
- 30:06you see in the limelight, everyone you know that is achieving the things they intend,
- 30:12they all started somewhere.
- 30:16Nobody begins as an expert in anything.
- 30:19No, you know, I'm not a plumber.
- 30:21I'm not going to fix my sink.
- 30:22I don't expect to know how to do it.
- 30:25If you aren't someone who has the background in health and fitness, you shouldn't expect
- 30:32yourself to know how to handle it.
- 30:33Now, how to stop thinking, oh, I should be able to do this myself.
- 30:37I can handle, I can do it.
- 30:39I'll just, you know, stop eating as much and move more.
- 30:43And the reality is that's not it.
- 30:46You need more of the right food.
- 30:48You don't need this.
- 30:50And you need the right type of movement.
- 30:53So it's so important.
- 30:55You have goals that are set in business or in finances or relationships.
- 31:01Understand everyone begins as a novice and it's okay.
- 31:07Reach out and ask for somebody to help you because you have to start somewhere or get
- 31:12a book or listen to a podcast, but know that you have to just begin afraid and you need
- 31:19to start today.
- 31:20Exactly.
- 31:21Why not today?
- 31:22Yeah, it's true.
- 31:25Yeah, so true.
- 31:27All the lessons that we need to do, all those things.
- 31:30So yeah, great information.
- 31:33So how does somebody find you, Ms. Alicia?
- 31:36Well, you can find me lots of places.
- 31:39Flip this chick is on every social platform, but I am on Instagram at fitover50.flipthischick.
- 31:47Now I want everyone to know that it's not because you have to be over 50 to join this
- 31:52movement.
- 31:53It's that I'm over 50.
- 31:54I'm 55.
- 31:56And so that's why I call it fit over 50.
- 31:59So wherever women don't always hit perimenopause or menopause or start to notice these shifts
- 32:05at a certain age.
- 32:07So I don't like to put an age number out there.
- 32:10It's whenever what you've been doing in the past is no longer working for you.
- 32:14That's when you need to make the shift.
- 32:16Okay.
- 32:17So I don't change anywhere from 35 to 65.
- 32:21But if what you're doing isn't working and you're frustrated, that's when you should
- 32:24look me up.
- 32:25Love it.
- 32:26And I love all your enthusiasm.
- 32:29And you can find me also.
- 32:31You can also find me at flipthischick.com.
- 32:34That is a good spot to just go dig in more about all the programs and stuff too.
- 32:39All right.
- 32:40Well, thank you for being my guest and sharing.
- 32:41And I can't wait to dive deeper.
- 32:43Every time I do one of these, I'm like, I don't want to be rude and taking notes the
- 32:47whole time and looking down.
- 32:48But I need to go back and it's a masterclass for me and back and pull all the information
- 32:54out.
- 32:55But thank you for being my guest.
- 32:57Thank you everybody else for joining us for this inspiring journey.
