- 6:01Speaker 6: Good time with one another.
- 6:02Speaker 2: But we're drinking.
- 6:03Speaker 7: We had a bottle of wine last night.

- 6:18Speaker 8: I didn't know what to do.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Okay, I didn't know.
- 6:21Speaker 10: What to do.
- 6:21Speaker 7: Okay, So then he came over here here, let's talk
- 6:24Speaker 7: him five it.
- 6:24Speaker 12: Okay, I called you, guys.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I tried.
- 6:30Speaker 11: The problem is I fell asleep. I fell asleep.
- 6:33Speaker 2: When did he do CPR this morning?
- 6:36Speaker 10: When I found it.
- 6:36Speaker 7: Before you called?
- 6:37Speaker 2: Yes, one o'clock right now?
- 6:41Speaker 12: I tried.
- 6:43Speaker 7: I was awake, but I actually got out of the
- 6:45Speaker 7: bed at like twelve thirty ish whatever.
- 6:47Speaker 2: So I came downstairs and I was.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Like, oh, he's in the suitcase still.
- 6:52Speaker 11: When I found him, I took him out.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I tried to sear, and then I called him, but
- 6:55Speaker 2: then I called you guys.
- 6:56Speaker 7: Did he get here before the fire department?
- 6:58Speaker 2: Down here?
- 6:58Speaker 6: Who?
- 6:59Speaker 7: Your husband said?
- 7:00Speaker 5: Okay?
- 7:01Speaker 13: Where a fear?
- 7:01Speaker 12: That right on the street?
- 7:03Speaker 7: Okay, So you were playing and he who hipped him up?
- 7:07Speaker 13: There?
- 7:07Speaker 5: I did?
- 7:08Speaker 7: But then I fell as sweep Okay, okay, okay, I
- 7:12Speaker 7: don't I wasn't here. I'm just trying to figure out
- 7:13Speaker 7: what happened.
- 7:14Speaker 12: So I don't know if he's suffocated her.
- 7:16Speaker 9: But you had an aneurysm or a heart attacker?
- 7:18Speaker 2: What a medical condition?
- 7:20Speaker 1: Would you that?
- 7:21Speaker 2: And then that I know him, you meant that you
- 7:22Speaker 2: know of.
- 7:24Speaker 7: No, no, no. All we had was a bottle of wine, literally,
- 7:29Speaker 7: just a bottle of wine, okay.
- 7:30Speaker 11: Doing puzzle artwork. Then we decided to way hide and seek.
- 7:34Speaker 7: That's all that happened, okay, Okay, So I don't know
- 7:36Speaker 7: if you hadn't have to tackle one in there, Like,
- 7:38Speaker 7: I don't know what happened. So how long were you
- 7:41Speaker 7: doing CPR on him.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Tried to be calling that one one.
- 7:44Speaker 7: We tried that all moren yes, okay, and then I
- 7:47Speaker 7: called him while I wasn't did you start probably doing
- 7:50Speaker 7: me a fall apart here?
- 7:52Speaker 10: Let me fill this DEPI in Okay.
- 7:53Speaker 11: We've mad my douncle Pepper, I am.
- 7:55Speaker 10: Still cut out.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Sarah told the police that her and George would drinking
- 8:00Speaker 4: at home when they decided to play a game of
- 8:03Speaker 4: hide and seek. George thought it would be funny to
- 8:07Speaker 4: get into the suitcase. Sarah said. She zipped him inside
- 8:12Speaker 4: the suitcase and then went to bed and fell asleep.
- 8:17Speaker 4: When she woke up, he was dead. The police start
- 8:22Speaker 4: an investigation into George's bizarre and tragic death. They find
- 8:28Speaker 4: out that George had previously been arrested on four different
- 8:31Speaker 4: occasions for domestic violence against Sarah. She had failed him
- 8:37Speaker 4: out of jail after each arrest. The police also discovered
- 8:43Speaker 4: that a month previously, Sarah had told the police that
- 8:47Speaker 4: George had attacked her with a curtain rod, but George
- 8:51Speaker 4: had not been charged in relation to that allegation. Sarah
- 8:57Speaker 4: was called into the police station to give her statement.
- 9:01Speaker 4: She was taken into a room where she was interviewed
- 9:04Speaker 4: by two investigators just hours prior. A post mortem had
- 9:09Speaker 4: been done on George's body, and the pathologist found scratches
- 9:14Speaker 4: on George's back, bruising on the side of his head,
- 9:18Speaker 4: and confirmed that his cause of death was suffocation. The
- 9:23Speaker 4: police had checked both George and Sarah's criminal records, and
- 9:28Speaker 4: they saw that their officers had been called to their
- 9:31Speaker 4: address multiple times in the past, with allegations of domestic
- 9:36Speaker 4: violence from both of them.
- 9:38Speaker 11: I asked you yesterday, there was the.
- 9:40Speaker 8: Last incident that you could remember was the curtain right incident,
- 9:43Speaker 8: which she said was a month ago.
- 9:45Speaker 10: So give her okay, right, So what do you mean
- 9:47Speaker 10: by he comes after you like he gets.
- 9:51Speaker 14: Belligerently drug I don't know if y'all have looked through
- 9:55Speaker 14: my phone yet and seen.
- 9:56Speaker 11: Any of the pictures in the videos that I.
- 9:58Speaker 8: Have taken and the at one point.
- 10:02Speaker 14: I started documenting everything, okay, so you all will see
- 10:05Speaker 14: in my pictures lady fingers, split foreheads, he split my nose.
- 10:12Speaker 8: I've got this.
- 10:14Speaker 11: I don't know if Brian told you about it.
- 10:15Speaker 14: Where I had to have almost what I had one
- 10:18Speaker 14: really bad surgery, but then it got really really, really
- 10:20Speaker 14: really bad where I had to go like four or
- 10:22Speaker 14: five more times afterwards for them to tend to it
- 10:24Speaker 14: from him poking me in the back of the leg. Right,
- 10:27Speaker 14: So it's then, why are you still with him? Everybody
- 10:30Speaker 14: asked me that when I tell you guys this, I
- 10:36Speaker 14: really love him like I do, and I.
- 10:38Speaker 8: Feel like I can help him.
- 10:40Speaker 4: The officer is, oh, Sarah, if she'd played hide and
- 10:43Speaker 4: Seek with George before, have.
- 10:46Speaker 8: You, guys ever played the You said you played hide
- 10:48Speaker 8: and Seek like probably three times in your relationship when
- 10:51Speaker 8: you have played. Have you ever zipped him up in
- 10:54Speaker 8: a suitcase prior?
- 10:55Speaker 9: No?
- 10:56Speaker 3: Okay, So it was.
- 10:57Speaker 8: Just kind of like that prop was there and it
- 10:59Speaker 8: was the play because.
- 11:04Speaker 14: I would never view that.
- 11:06Speaker 4: The police had possession of Sarah's mobile phone as they
- 11:10Speaker 4: took it from her when they arrived on the scene,
- 11:12Speaker 4: and investigators had looked through its contents.
- 11:17Speaker 8: So I have something that I want to show you
- 11:19Speaker 8: that we found. It was from your phone.
- 11:22Speaker 4: One of the officers loads up a video onto her
- 11:25Speaker 4: laptop and turns the screen towards Sarah. This video had
- 11:30Speaker 4: been taken from Sarah's phone. The video shows Sarah's living
- 11:35Speaker 4: room and on the floor is a suitcase that has
- 11:39Speaker 4: toppled over, but then the suitcase starts to move. It's
- 11:44Speaker 4: about six feet away from the person filming the video,
- 11:48Speaker 4: and two voices can be heard. One is George's and
- 11:53Speaker 4: one is Sarah's. George is in the suitcase, which is
- 11:58Speaker 4: zipped all the way round out, and Sarah is filming him.
- 12:04Speaker 5: Sarah, for everything you've done to me, for everything you've
- 12:16Speaker 5: done to me.
- 12:17Speaker 6: So fuck you, Sarah, Fuck you, Sarah, stupid.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Sarah.
- 12:31Speaker 9: That's my name.
- 12:32Speaker 5: Don't learn not.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Sarah.
- 12:37Speaker 6: I can't say yeah, that's when you're doing you, say me.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, h.
- 13:02Speaker 6: Carol. I can't believe that's on you, Sarah. I can't breath.
- 13:08Speaker 6: That's on you, Sarah real Roundso I want to give
- 13:18Speaker 6: video for it extra because I get it, Sarah real Sarah.
- 13:35Speaker 6: I can't believe dad.
- 13:37Speaker 5: Oh, that's what I feel like when you drink on me.
- 13:41Speaker 12: Sorrow wock you Yeah, you should probably shout the fuck up.
- 13:59Speaker 4: Joe had been slowly suffocating, and Sarah had made it
- 14:03Speaker 4: clear to George that she wasn't going to help him.
- 14:09Speaker 4: There had also been a shorter video of George struggling
- 14:13Speaker 4: inside the suitcase on Sarah's phone. The police had examined
- 14:19Speaker 4: the timestamps of the two videos they found, and the
- 14:23Speaker 4: officers tell Sarah that the evidence points to George being
- 14:28Speaker 4: in the suitcase struggling to breathe for at least eleven minutes,
- 14:34Speaker 4: and they knew she'd been watching him the whole time.
- 14:39Speaker 14: I don't know what you want me to tell you, Like,
- 14:40Speaker 14: I don't know like what you want me to tell you.
- 14:42Speaker 8: I'm just showing you. I'm just telling you what we
- 14:45Speaker 8: see and what we've heard from.
- 14:46Speaker 10: The Again, I understand he's begging to let for you
- 14:50Speaker 10: to let him out. You sound you're laughing in the beginning,
- 14:55Speaker 10: and then in the end it sounds.
- 14:56Speaker 14: Kind of like a no, it's not malicious, oh saying
- 15:00Speaker 14: fuck you? It's not malicious?
- 15:04Speaker 1: What is that?
- 15:05Speaker 10: What is fuck you mean to you?
- 15:08Speaker 11: Well, like if you were, just if I were just
- 15:10Speaker 11: like he says, like, I get told everything by a
- 15:13Speaker 11: white woman. So I my intention was not to leave
- 15:18Speaker 11: him in there. Please understand that my intention was.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Not to leave him in there.
- 15:25Speaker 13: But you went upstairs thinking that he could get him somehow.
- 15:29Speaker 13: But the video shows when I see his fingers and
- 15:33Speaker 13: there any minute and then thirty minutes.
- 15:36Speaker 8: Later he didn't show and I sta't like that.
- 15:41Speaker 10: Do you think he's joke? You told me he was laughing,
- 15:44Speaker 10: and I wait, were before you there's there's no guy
- 15:47Speaker 10: in there?
- 15:48Speaker 8: Both of us were, So how long was he in
- 15:50Speaker 8: there for? Like this video is on eleven twelve when
- 15:53Speaker 8: it starts, So was he in there for like a
- 15:55Speaker 8: long time prior to sporting no no? So it goes
- 16:00Speaker 8: from funny to no longer funny. But you're the only
- 16:03Speaker 8: one laughing. But I didn't think that he was like panicky,
- 16:09Speaker 8: like I didn't I.
- 16:10Speaker 13: So pushing up on a suitcase saying Sarah Sarah, Sarah,
- 16:16Speaker 13: I can't breathe.
- 16:18Speaker 14: George has done that in the past before too, where
- 16:20Speaker 14: it's just like he thinks that he's.
- 16:22Speaker 10: Well with me kind of thing where it's like he's
- 16:24Speaker 10: never been lost in a suitcase, but now you couldn't.
- 16:26Speaker 8: Get out, So it's kind of I thought it was.
- 16:30Speaker 11: Crying wolf kind of thing.
- 16:32Speaker 10: Okay, and again my put but nowhere in there is
- 16:36Speaker 10: he laughing?
- 16:36Speaker 6: Is he's joking?
- 16:37Speaker 8: He is begging, and.
- 16:39Speaker 10: You're the only one laughing, and you're the only one
- 16:43Speaker 10: saying derogatory comments like you're mad.
- 16:48Speaker 4: A member of the crime scene investigation team comes in
- 16:52Speaker 4: to take DNA swamps from Sarah and then she's arrested
- 16:56Speaker 4: on suspicion of murder. Action to being arrested goes from
- 17:02Speaker 4: one of disbelief to her claiming that she knew this
- 17:06Speaker 4: would happen. Sarah was charged with second degree murder. The
- 17:13Speaker 4: videos were released to the media and they went viral.
- 17:18Speaker 4: More details about the couple's history came out, and there
- 17:22Speaker 4: had been domestic violence from both of them throughout their relationship.
- 17:27Speaker 4: Two years prior to George's death, police had been called
- 17:31Speaker 4: to an incident which left Sarah receiving a battery charge
- 17:36Speaker 4: for strangling George. George was also charged with battery in
- 17:41Speaker 4: the same incident for kicking Sarah. The police couldn't make
- 17:46Speaker 4: out who was the primary aggressor in the case that
- 17:50Speaker 4: they had said that the argument had started after George
- 17:55Speaker 4: accused Sarah of chatting to a man in a bar
- 18:00Speaker 4: fowing year, Sarah was arrested twice for other domestic violence charges.
- 18:06Speaker 4: George was arrested three times for domestic battery. One time
- 18:11Speaker 4: he was accused of punching Sarah in the ear. The
- 18:16Speaker 4: couple's neighbors told police how they would often hear arguing
- 18:20Speaker 4: and shouting coming from their house at all hours. While
- 18:27Speaker 4: Sarah was in jail waiting for her trial, she wrote
- 18:31Speaker 4: a letter to the judge claiming that she hadn't heard
- 18:34Speaker 4: from anyone in the case, including her own lawyer. In
- 18:39Speaker 4: the lead up to the trial, Sarah Boone had nine
- 18:43Speaker 4: different attorneys, Eight of them withdrew themselves as Sarah's defense counsel,
- 18:50Speaker 4: all citing her behavior as the reason that they no
- 18:54Speaker 4: longer wanted to continue working on her case. Sarah even
- 19:00Speaker 4: made her own advertisement in the hopes of finding a
- 19:04Speaker 4: new lawyer to represent her. She made this poster in prison.
- 19:11Speaker 4: It read inmate seeks attorney looking for a prosperous challenge.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Ready for your close up on national television. I use
- 19:22Speaker 4: zealous with a side of keen. Show the world who
- 19:26Speaker 4: you are with your original creativity, extraordinary expertise and confidence,
- 19:34Speaker 4: ingenuity and epic opportunity awaits. The advert caught the eye
- 19:41Speaker 4: of an attorney called James Owens. Just days before her
- 19:45Speaker 4: trial began, Sarah rejected a plea deal offered to her
- 19:50Speaker 4: by the prosecutors in the case. They offered her fifteen
- 19:53Speaker 4: years in prison, if she pled guilty to manslaughter. Instead,
- 20:00Speaker 4: Sarah's attorney filed an intent to use the battered spouse
- 20:04Speaker 4: syndrome defense, claiming that Sarah had suffered years of domestic
- 20:09Speaker 4: abuse at the hands of George Torres Junior. During the trial,
- 20:16Speaker 4: Sarah's attorney asked the judge for a mistrial to be
- 20:19Speaker 4: declared because George's family had become so emotional that they
- 20:25Speaker 4: had to leave the courtroom during the closing statements. This
- 20:30Speaker 4: bizarre request was denied. During the trial, the court was
- 20:35Speaker 4: shown police body cam footage from a previous incident that
- 20:40Speaker 4: included alleged domestic violence, with Sarah accusing George of beating her.
- 20:48Speaker 4: In October twenty twenty four, the jury took just ninety
- 20:52Speaker 4: minutes to find Sarah Boone guilty of second degree murder.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Judge Michael Kranik sentence Sarah to spend the rest of
- 21:02Speaker 4: her life behind balls spoon.
- 21:06Speaker 2: You can be seated.
- 21:06Speaker 14: You've been previously sworn.
- 21:09Speaker 4: Sarah Boone gave a twenty minute speech to the Coolts
- 21:13Speaker 4: during her sentencing.
- 21:15Speaker 9: Kinto sukaroy is a kind of Japanese ceramic style which
- 21:18Speaker 9: means to repair with gold. In his tradiction, tradition. When
- 21:22Speaker 9: a ceramic piece breaks, an artisan will fuse the pieces
- 21:25Speaker 9: back together again using liquid gold or gold dust laquer, so,
- 21:29Speaker 9: rather than being covered up, the breaks become more obvious
- 21:32Speaker 9: and a brilliant new piece of art emerges from the brokenness.
- 21:37Speaker 9: It embraces flaws, weakness, and imperfections, and also teaches the
- 21:41Speaker 9: essence of resilience. Every crack in a ceramic piece is
- 21:45Speaker 9: a part of its history, and each piece becomes more
- 21:48Speaker 9: beautiful because it has been broken. This is the wisdom
- 21:52Speaker 9: of Kintosukaroy. In my wisdom, and with all of my
- 21:56Speaker 9: repairs then now and ongoing, God is has been and
- 22:00Speaker 9: will always be my artisan.
- 22:03Speaker 4: All of my gold is forgiveness.
- 22:05Speaker 9: My goal begins with George Torres. And every time he
- 22:09Speaker 9: slapped me, kicked, punched, spit on, raped, stabbed, choked, laughed at, pushed, pulled, dragged, whipped, tripped,
- 22:18Speaker 9: stole from, lied, terrorized, threatened, humiliated, forced, degraded, made me
- 22:24Speaker 9: cry every time he tried to end me, defeat or destroying.
- 22:29Speaker 9: I forgive George for beating me senseless, for trying to
- 22:34Speaker 9: sleep because I had to go to work, or my
- 22:36Speaker 9: son's field trip the next day, for ruining my deceased
- 22:39Speaker 9: family's heirlooms, traditions and keepsakes, my son's furniture, destroying the
- 22:44Speaker 9: television we watched together, For wrecking our town home by
- 22:48Speaker 9: breaking windows, punching holes in the walls and doors, ramming
- 22:51Speaker 9: his entire body into glass doors, kicking in my front
- 22:54Speaker 9: and back door over and over and over. For breaking
- 22:58Speaker 9: or removing the locks from all the doors, and sometimes
- 23:01Speaker 9: the knobs altogether, so I had nowhere to feel safe,
- 23:04Speaker 9: including the sacred space of my son's room, where he
- 23:07Speaker 9: beat me bloody on his bed. For terrorizing and threatening
- 23:11Speaker 9: my blind and deaf dogs by leaving the gate open
- 23:13Speaker 9: I built to keep them safe, telling me he hoped
- 23:16Speaker 9: I'd find their bloated dead body in the pond or
- 23:19Speaker 9: scrape the remains off of the pavement. For kicking them
- 23:22Speaker 9: off of the bed and throwing across the room because
- 23:25Speaker 9: they were trying to protect me. For threatening to make
- 23:28Speaker 9: me unrecognizable to my son by breaking all of the
- 23:31Speaker 9: bones in my face like his brother Moses did to
- 23:34Speaker 9: him after he kept seeing all of the bruises from
- 23:37Speaker 9: George beating me like all of the times their father
- 23:40Speaker 9: beat their mother. For all of the drunken rages and
- 23:43Speaker 9: fist fights with so many neighbors when wandering into their
- 23:46Speaker 9: apartments during hunting expeditions after I had escaped. Almost everything
- 23:51Speaker 9: reminds me of him, seeing my stab wound, especially every
- 23:55Speaker 9: day especially, it truly reminds me that all I really
- 23:58Speaker 9: did live through haun me. He is everywhere. I believe
- 24:02Speaker 9: because I do still love him, think of.
- 24:04Speaker 4: Him and miss his laugh the most.
- 24:06Speaker 9: In my heart, I know he is with me and
- 24:08Speaker 9: understands that this tragedy was not intentional. I hope everyone
- 24:12Speaker 9: can His family foremost, I didn't mean for this to happen.
- 24:17Speaker 9: Please wholeheartedly know that, and always I would never forgive me. George,
- 24:24Speaker 9: forgive me, Torres family, forgive me. Judge Krenik, to the
- 24:29Speaker 9: entire planet, please forgive me.
- 24:31Speaker 4: George. Torres Junior's loved ones set up an online obituary
- 24:36Speaker 4: page for people to leave messages for George and his family.
