- 0:09Speaker 2: The World's a Vegetal podcast.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:17Speaker 3: I hope they're wearing white because we look like we
- 0:21Speaker 3: just came from a white party here with all the
- 0:22Speaker 3: three of us.
- 0:23Speaker 4: Yeah, tight white.
- 0:24Speaker 5: I don't have that kind of money.
- 0:25Speaker 2: We just copied in from the Hampton.
- 0:27Speaker 5: I now believe that Cold Strange is a surprise cup candidate.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I think you could trade them for a second.
- 0:33Speaker 6: Is there any trade possibility?
- 0:35Speaker 7: Is there any value in these two players?
- 0:37Speaker 2: I think you package them up for a first But
- 0:39Speaker 2: in this day, like mixing the pass every once in
- 0:41Speaker 2: a while, just to throw it off, you know, to.
- 0:44Speaker 5: Get Jay and Poul kick touch.
- 0:46Speaker 8: There's no receivers all the first.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Yeah, we were talking.
- 0:53Speaker 8: I was thinking about that name.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Yeah, we were all worried.
- 0:55Speaker 9: If you ask me if it's about a great coach
- 0:59Speaker 9: with a bad quarterback or a bad coach with a
- 1:03Speaker 9: great quarterback, I'll take the latter every single time.
- 1:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I can see that.
- 1:06Speaker 10: You.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Part of the problem with argument Paul is that he's
- 1:08Speaker 4: done all these times.
- 1:10Speaker 3: No, and you've also done all of them, and so
- 1:11Speaker 3: you started Claire out, which is like, I'm.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Gonna start off with level one, Paul, if you.
- 1:15Speaker 5: Will not even admit that that was why they got
- 1:16Speaker 5: rid of them, No, it wasn't.
- 1:18Speaker 2: You're not who you think you are. See you later, Okay.
- 1:21Speaker 5: I would suggest you do a little bit more research.
- 1:23Speaker 5: I'm not guessing on this.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Okay the way, all right, I know this is Patriot's Unfiltered.
- 1:29Speaker 11: Presented by Toyota's official website. For deals, buy a Toyota
- 1:32Speaker 11: dot com.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Oh, welcome to pay sun Filtered. We are alive from
- 1:40Speaker 2: ji Lette Stadium.
- 1:42Speaker 1: It is.
- 1:46Speaker 5: You get a little extra time to figure that one out.
- 1:47Speaker 6: Did you?
- 1:48Speaker 2: I'm all confused because into each other. All I know
- 1:52Speaker 2: is that tomorrow is the joint practice. Correct, That's the
- 1:55Speaker 2: most important news.
- 1:57Speaker 6: Uh.
- 1:57Speaker 2: These guys are just off the practice field, Paul evan
- 2:00Speaker 2: deuce where they had a walkthrough today to get ready
- 2:05Speaker 2: for tomorrow's joint practice. So they kind of worked on
- 2:09Speaker 2: what they're going to actually do tomorrow. In some ways,
- 2:13Speaker 2: I know that they know we're told that we can
- 2:16Speaker 2: only film certain periods. Today was even more abbreviated, just
- 2:20Speaker 2: the first two periods they don't want anything else. So
- 2:22Speaker 2: they are going to be using some of the plays
- 2:25Speaker 2: that they did today probably tomorrow against the Commanders, so
- 2:28Speaker 2: that'll be interesting. And right off the bat, I want
- 2:31Speaker 2: to let everyone know that we will be live from
- 2:35Speaker 2: high above the practice fields starting at nine forty five
- 2:39Speaker 2: tomorrow with Mike Rabel's press conference and then we'll go
- 2:42Speaker 2: right into practice and we'll give you as much a
- 2:45Speaker 2: practice as we're allowed to film. So exciting day. Joint practices.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Are looking forward to it increasingly important in the NFL.
- 2:53Speaker 4: They are, I mean chance to also see another team.
- 2:55Speaker 3: I think that's always fun for me to get a
- 2:57Speaker 3: chance to look at young player like Jayden Aiels.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Really fun to get to see him.
- 3:01Speaker 5: In personal PA, we always focus on the personnel, and
- 3:04Speaker 5: I think that's important, and Daniels is important. But like
- 3:07Speaker 5: just listening to Peppers a little bit, your guy, Mike,
- 3:09Speaker 5: you know another scheme too, because now you're starting to
- 3:13Speaker 5: watch the offense and defense go against each other. And
- 3:16Speaker 5: we've heard comments Mike Fred and I had Michael Winnu
- 3:19Speaker 5: in here and he was talking about not only like
- 3:21Speaker 5: they know the scheme, but the even your cadence and
- 3:24Speaker 5: everything about it. So I make. It's more of a
- 3:26Speaker 5: gauge to get it. Just a whole different scheme, personnel,
- 3:31Speaker 5: coaching style, all that it can only help the team.
- 3:34Speaker 12: Ye yeah, just with the you know, there's no film
- 3:38Speaker 12: of these practices that go to the other teams, so
- 3:40Speaker 12: you can put stuff on film in terms of plays
- 3:42Speaker 12: like Fred was talking about the plays that they're going
- 3:44Speaker 12: to run, and you can put stuff like that on
- 3:46Speaker 12: film and not be worried that it's going to be
- 3:48Speaker 12: seen by you know, thirty other teams like you would
- 3:50Speaker 12: in the preseason. If you put that on a preseason tape,
- 3:53Speaker 12: now the whole league can see this is your offense,
- 3:55Speaker 12: this is what you're doing. So they almost put more
- 3:59Speaker 12: in for these joint practices than they do with the
- 4:01Speaker 12: preseason games as a result of that. So we're gonna see,
- 4:05Speaker 12: you know, the full gamut tomorrow. I would expect from
- 4:07Speaker 12: Josh McDaniels and Mike Rabel of what exactly they're going
- 4:10Speaker 12: to do to game plan at Jaden Daniels to scheme
- 4:14Speaker 12: you know, offensively and get guys open.
- 4:16Speaker 8: So it'd be good to see.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yesterday the Patriots had practice and it was a normal
- 4:20Speaker 2: IMPADS practice and from what I saw. I think it
- 4:23Speaker 2: was one of the better practices for the offense after
- 4:26Speaker 2: Friday's kind of ify practice. If people don't know, they
- 4:31Speaker 2: had an in stadium practice on Friday for season ticket
- 4:34Speaker 2: members and fox Bough residents and it was a scrimmage
- 4:36Speaker 2: where they actually had a draft and uh so there
- 4:41Speaker 2: was a white and a blue team and because of
- 4:43Speaker 2: the draft, players were mixed up. It wasn't like the
- 4:46Speaker 2: starting offense against the starting defense as we've seen in
- 4:50Speaker 2: practices so far. Guys were mixed and match. So was
- 4:53Speaker 2: it a good, you know, indication of where the offense is.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I don't know, But yesterday they had a pretty darn
- 5:01Speaker 2: good practice.
- 5:02Speaker 4: I mean, I might push back on a little bit.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Fred I thought they started I thought they started off
- 5:05Speaker 3: really good, and I thought they kind of sputtered out
- 5:07Speaker 3: at the end, and that, you know, it has been a
- 5:09Speaker 3: little bit of my takeaway from these last two practices
- 5:11Speaker 3: that once we got into situational football, it wasn't quite
- 5:15Speaker 3: as sharp as as it's been. And you know, look,
- 5:17Speaker 3: compliments to Drake, like, I think he's looked good this summer.
- 5:19Speaker 4: He's looked in control.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I thought he was excellent in the first seven on
- 5:22Speaker 3: seven period yesterday and take it for what it is.
- 5:24Speaker 3: It's a seven on seven period still, but in the
- 5:27Speaker 3: red zone, it you know, just looks comfortable. But look,
- 5:30Speaker 3: my big thing with Drake this year is he a killer.
- 5:32Speaker 3: So far these last two practices that have been competitive
- 5:35Speaker 3: in those situational periods, he hasn't quite delivered yet. And
- 5:37Speaker 3: I'm not saying I'm pushing a panic button or anything
- 5:39Speaker 3: like that, but I see tomorrow as an opportunity to
- 5:42Speaker 3: really especially those last situational drills, to really turn the
- 5:45Speaker 3: screws and show a level of hey, we can we
- 5:48Speaker 3: can dictate to this defense. We talked about that last
- 5:51Speaker 3: play yesterday where yeah, it might have been a touchdown
- 5:53Speaker 3: to end the game, but it was you know, he's
- 5:55Speaker 3: just kind of flinging it up there, and none of
- 5:57Speaker 3: that stuff. In those last couple periods when they were
- 5:59Speaker 3: right inside the ten yard line look really crisp and smooth.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Certainly not as crispin smooth as it looked in seven
- 6:04Speaker 3: on seven. So I think they were better I thought
- 6:06Speaker 3: early on. I just thought they sputtered out a little
- 6:08Speaker 3: bit at the end, and I want to see him
- 6:09Speaker 3: finish against the Commanders.
- 6:11Speaker 4: I keep trying to call them the other name, the
- 6:12Speaker 4: Commanders Tomorrow.
- 6:14Speaker 8: Yeah, I would agree with that.
- 6:15Speaker 12: I think, you know, when you get down into the
- 6:17Speaker 12: low red zone and you're trying to throw the ball
- 6:19Speaker 12: in from like the five, six, seven eight yard line,
- 6:21Speaker 12: it's really hard. Like it's hard, it's tight space, it's
- 6:24Speaker 12: not it's definitely advantage defense down there. And I don't
- 6:28Speaker 12: know if we're exactly getting into the point where Josh
- 6:31Speaker 12: McDaniels is like scheming ways to get receivers open in
- 6:34Speaker 12: a in a practice setting, we're kind of running base
- 6:36Speaker 12: plays and things like that. So maybe that's a little
- 6:39Speaker 12: bit of like hope that that could turn around, is
- 6:42Speaker 12: like once they get into a regular game and they're
- 6:44Speaker 12: actually you know, disguising and using window dressing and motions
- 6:48Speaker 12: and things like that to create separation and get guys open.
- 6:52Speaker 12: But I would agree in general, I thought once they
- 6:54Speaker 12: got down there, they had some trouble creating separation. And
- 6:57Speaker 12: this isn't Gonzo and Carlton Davis. This is you know,
- 7:00Speaker 12: some of those secondary guys like DJ James and Alex
- 7:03Speaker 12: Austin and do.
- 7:03Speaker 2: You think Arcus Jones.
- 7:04Speaker 5: That was the most troubling part to me was who
- 7:07Speaker 5: they were getting covered by, I mean Kobe Minor. You know,
- 7:10Speaker 5: we hadn't really seen a whole lot of was showing
- 7:12Speaker 5: up in some of those I thought early on, like
- 7:15Speaker 5: Mike said, they made some places. Trevion Henderson continues to
- 7:19Speaker 5: impress me as a as a pass catcher, especially he
- 7:23Speaker 5: had a beautiful wheel route for about twenty twenty five
- 7:25Speaker 5: yards out for a touchdown behind Christian Ellis. Beyond that
- 7:29Speaker 5: that segment, once they because they you know, as practice progressed,
- 7:34Speaker 5: they started working from the twenty five and moving yet
- 7:37Speaker 5: and there were times where they just had to move
- 7:39Speaker 5: the ball because they were just incomplete passes. I think
- 7:41Speaker 5: so I think the defense was better than these.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Once the games are for real, that it's more likely
- 7:46Speaker 2: that this team in the low red zone will be
- 7:48Speaker 2: a run first team.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Well, I think to Evan's point, they'll be. They'll be
- 7:52Speaker 3: more able to schematically get make things happen. But you know,
- 7:56Speaker 3: at this point where you're just trying to install plays,
- 7:58Speaker 3: there is more on the quarterback and that's where.
- 8:00Speaker 4: You know, whether he sinks or swims, the windows are
- 8:03Speaker 4: going to be a lot tighter.
- 8:04Speaker 3: You're probably not going to get as much help schematically
- 8:06Speaker 3: as you would in games, So you're always reserving that
- 8:09Speaker 3: confidence of and even tomorrow, I would say when they
- 8:12Speaker 3: get out there, I bet it's a little bit more
- 8:14Speaker 3: schemed up. They're going to try to have a good practice,
- 8:15Speaker 3: They're going to try to finish strong, and really, you know,
- 8:18Speaker 3: Evan laid it all out. They'll try to break out
- 8:21Speaker 3: all the breaks to try to get some points on
- 8:22Speaker 3: the board and have practice break the break.
- 8:25Speaker 8: I mean, that's always how I feel.
- 8:26Speaker 12: Fred is like once you get inside the yeah, the
- 8:30Speaker 12: seven or eight yard line, like you really would like
- 8:32Speaker 12: to just run the teams that that's really what you
- 8:34Speaker 12: would want to do. And maybe some of that involves
- 8:37Speaker 12: Drake like that it's not just not to take him
- 8:40Speaker 12: totally out of the equation, but if you are going
- 8:42Speaker 12: to throw from down there, hopefully it's off play action.
- 8:45Speaker 12: Hopefully it's a moving pocket, like there's some sort of
- 8:48Speaker 12: window dressing involved that's giving the defense pause when you
- 8:51Speaker 12: just run. You're in the gun and you're just running
- 8:54Speaker 12: base plays against the defense in the low red zone,
- 8:56Speaker 12: it's tight, like it's tight down there to make throws
- 8:59Speaker 12: and make it like you guys always talk about those.
- 9:02Speaker 8: Belichick practices for four or five days, they'd.
- 9:05Speaker 12: Always be in the red zone and a lot of
- 9:07Speaker 12: the time in recent years at least maybe not the
- 9:09Speaker 12: Brady years, but in recent years, it felt like the
- 9:12Speaker 12: defense would dominate those practices. And we always have this conversation,
- 9:16Speaker 12: are they dominant or are they just down in the
- 9:19Speaker 12: low red zone And it's hard to throw the ball
- 9:21Speaker 12: in from that distance.
- 9:22Speaker 8: So we'll see, you know, hopefully there's that's coming.
- 9:25Speaker 12: But you mentioned Travon Henderson and he's the guy to
- 9:27Speaker 12: me that is the most fun to play with like that.
- 9:30Speaker 12: That's the guy that can really be a chess piece
- 9:33Speaker 12: for them down there with his speed, because he does
- 9:35Speaker 12: have that ability, you know, to get the edge and
- 9:37Speaker 12: to turn the corner, you know, with the different things
- 9:39Speaker 12: that you can do, flexing him out, moving him around
- 9:42Speaker 12: to find matchups in the past game, or tossing him
- 9:44Speaker 12: the football to get him out on the perimeter in
- 9:46Speaker 12: the run game.
- 9:47Speaker 5: A little toss sweep worked well yesterday. To the post.
- 9:49Speaker 12: Yeah, you know, running type of read option, zone reads
- 9:53Speaker 12: or whatever with Drake where you know they can read
- 9:55Speaker 12: the end and figure out who's got the best laye
- 9:57Speaker 12: in to the end zone. I feel like he's he's
- 9:59Speaker 12: the chess piece so far, at least from this offense
- 10:02Speaker 12: that can make those kinds of plays.
- 10:04Speaker 2: All right, So the other thing we need to talk about.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Injuries are starting to rear their head for the Patriots,
- 10:10Speaker 2: and we know that Gonzo has been out for a
- 10:13Speaker 2: while reportedly hamstring tweak. Carlton Davis hasn't been practicing getting
- 10:20Speaker 2: a little closer. It seems Matt Collins is back. But
- 10:24Speaker 2: yesterday Morgan Moses left practice.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I think, and he was okay today he was
- 10:29Speaker 4: back out there.
- 10:29Speaker 13: I was.
- 10:30Speaker 4: I think that's still part of the plan. And I
- 10:32Speaker 4: get why.
- 10:33Speaker 3: You know, it's sometimes he comes late and he just practices.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Sometimes he starts the practice like you did yesterday and
- 10:38Speaker 3: he left. So everyone's radar is up for what Morgan
- 10:40Speaker 3: Mosa is, his health situation is.
- 10:42Speaker 4: Until I see something more dramatic, I think that this
- 10:44Speaker 4: is just them.
- 10:45Speaker 5: That's been always something to monitor because I do believe
- 10:48Speaker 5: that Trey Jacobs and Marcus Bryant took Yeah, I don't
- 10:53Speaker 5: know if all of the reps I think at right
- 10:54Speaker 5: tackle today, you know, even though it was a walkthrough.
- 10:57Speaker 5: So yeah, the offensive line into I think is some
- 11:01Speaker 5: of the depth is being chipped away at a little bit.
- 11:03Speaker 5: You know, they had to put your heir durant On
- 11:05Speaker 5: on I R And you know, Cayden Wallace hasn't practiced
- 11:08Speaker 5: much City so hasn't practiced much. I think it was
- 11:11Speaker 5: Wallace Friday night that he left. He didn't practice yesterday
- 11:14Speaker 5: or today. So yeah, they're starting to lose some of
- 11:17Speaker 5: the depth pieces.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Friday's practice, Kendrick Bourne got banged.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, said he got rolled up on.
- 11:23Speaker 3: And the I mean the most disappointing went to me
- 11:25Speaker 3: so far is Chase On, who's been having a great
- 11:27Speaker 3: camp and something happened to him Friday night.
- 11:30Speaker 4: He hasn't been on the last two days.
- 11:31Speaker 3: We have seen him around a little bit, so it
- 11:33Speaker 3: doesn't seem like it's you know, he's in traction.
- 11:37Speaker 12: It's hard to tell us until we like get a
- 11:40Speaker 12: feel for how Rabel handles these things a little bit more.
- 11:44Speaker 12: Are these plans are they? You know, is Mario Moses
- 11:47Speaker 12: on some sort of set plan? Is Chase On's injury?
- 11:50Speaker 12: Like is if this was a game week? Like is
- 11:53Speaker 12: he out there at practice? But because it's training camp,
- 11:56Speaker 12: we're going to you know, pull back the rains a
- 11:58Speaker 12: little bit, you know, those types of things. Carlton Davis
- 12:00Speaker 12: to me, is clearly on some sort of plan that
- 12:03Speaker 12: when it comes around to week one, they're confident that
- 12:06Speaker 12: they'll have them ready to go, but they don't need
- 12:08Speaker 12: to have them out there in that second week of
- 12:09Speaker 12: training camp, which is fine, but you know, well, I'm
- 12:12Speaker 12: still kind of learning some of those different things they're
- 12:15Speaker 12: trying to read, like how each guy's situation is a
- 12:18Speaker 12: little bit different. I think, you know, Jacquelyn Roy and
- 12:20Speaker 12: Marcella's dial got hurt like that those two guys, I
- 12:23Speaker 12: feel like, is different than some of these veteran players
- 12:26Speaker 12: we're talking about.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, injuries are going to happen. They're
- 12:30Speaker 2: inevitable in football, so you just got to deal with them.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, that's it is.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Every team is equipped to deal with them a little
- 12:36Speaker 2: bit better than others. It's yet to see how the
- 12:40Speaker 2: Patriots can deal with injuries.
- 12:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:42Speaker 3: I just like that the rookies have generally stayed healthy.
- 12:44Speaker 3: That to me is always really important. New guys learning
- 12:47Speaker 3: the system, learning how to be NFL pros, That to
- 12:50Speaker 3: me is super important. Now will Campbell out there every day,
- 12:53Speaker 3: you know, learning taking his lumps giving them back. Those
- 12:56Speaker 3: are you know, positive developments and I'm excited to see
- 12:59Speaker 3: Will camp go against these guys in Washington the next
- 13:02Speaker 3: you know, preseason and as well as the joint practice.
- 13:05Speaker 3: See a little bit of that snarley attitude that that
- 13:07Speaker 3: Will Campbell plays with.
- 13:08Speaker 4: I think he'll bring Tom.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Speaking of Will Campbell, I was so impressed with him
- 13:12Speaker 2: after Friday's practice. He did a media scrum on the
- 13:16Speaker 2: field after practice, and just the way he dealt with
- 13:19Speaker 2: the questions, you know, just smiling, listening, you know, answering
- 13:25Speaker 2: them directly. Just he has the presence of a veteran
- 13:30Speaker 2: when it comes to dealing with the with the media. Now,
- 13:34Speaker 2: who knows what's gonna happen once the season starts, but
- 13:37Speaker 2: right now he really knows how to handle himself.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Yeah, he does.
- 13:41Speaker 3: I mean that maturity that I think just an experienced player.
- 13:44Speaker 3: He has that kind of confidence innately in him. But
- 13:48Speaker 3: like you said, I think he's acknowledging it's a process
- 13:50Speaker 3: and that's what we all have to acknowledge. And you know,
- 13:52Speaker 3: if he's gonna be going with Jared Wilson at left guard,
- 13:55Speaker 3: that makes things really interesting too. And now Marcus Bryant's
- 13:58Speaker 3: kind of in the mix, and I to say, you know,
- 14:01Speaker 3: other than Michael Minu and I still probably have some
- 14:03Speaker 3: questions about Michael Minut.
- 14:05Speaker 4: There are there are questions at every spot right now.
- 14:07Speaker 3: You know, can Bradberry hold up as a pass protector?
- 14:10Speaker 4: You know, is Jared Wilson ready to go as a
- 14:12Speaker 4: left guard?
- 14:13Speaker 3: It was Will Campbell ready to go as a left tackle?
- 14:15Speaker 3: What's the health situation at right tackle? So it's a
- 14:18Speaker 3: lot of questions long after this time again.
- 14:20Speaker 2: This time last year. This time last year, we found
- 14:24Speaker 2: out with empirical evidence when the Eagles came that the
- 14:27Speaker 2: line was not ready.
- 14:28Speaker 14: M hm.
- 14:29Speaker 2: So let's see what happens tomorrow.
- 14:32Speaker 12: Yeah, this is not the Eagles defensive line that's coming
- 14:35Speaker 12: in here from Washington, but it's it. They have NFL
- 14:37Speaker 12: players on their line and there are some good ones,
- 14:41Speaker 12: I guess, like I'm almost looking forward to Friday night
- 14:43Speaker 12: when it comes to the offensive line because you need
- 14:45Speaker 12: the tape like you can't. Things are just flying around
- 14:47Speaker 12: in practice, like you know, what's how is he getting beat?
- 14:51Speaker 12: And why is he getting beat? You know, is it
- 14:52Speaker 12: related to his arm leight? Is it related to just
- 14:55Speaker 12: things that you can coach or fix like you can't
- 14:57Speaker 12: really see that live, like it all happens too fast.
- 15:01Speaker 12: So Friday night will be a good test. Even if
- 15:04Speaker 12: the commander's top guys aren't playing. I assume all the
- 15:07Speaker 12: Patriots rookies are going to play at least a little bit,
- 15:09Speaker 12: and we might get hopefully a couple of drives of
- 15:12Speaker 12: Will Campbell and Jared Wilson that we can really dig
- 15:15Speaker 12: into and break down, which will be healthy.
- 15:17Speaker 5: Yeah, that was good. He'll talk today for Mike and I.
- 15:20Speaker 5: I do think there's a chance that you might see
- 15:22Speaker 5: an extra series for the two rookies Wilson and Campbell.
- 15:26Speaker 5: I wouldn't expect to see much of those frontline guys.
- 15:29Speaker 5: Maybe they start and play the first series. But you know,
- 15:33Speaker 5: Morgan Moses doesn't even make it through practices. I wouldn't
- 15:36Speaker 5: expect to see him much, if at all.
- 15:37Speaker 8: And don't I don't need to see drink may I don't.
- 15:39Speaker 12: I just the rookie should play because the game tape
- 15:42Speaker 12: is really helpful, and I know they have the practice stuff,
- 15:45Speaker 12: but like it's different when you get into a game
- 15:47Speaker 12: and the ability to play in the game, get the
- 15:50Speaker 12: feel for how that is and then go watch it
- 15:52Speaker 12: the next day with the coaches and break it down
- 15:55Speaker 12: like that can be. You can really grow from doing that,
- 15:57Speaker 12: and I think that that's important for.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Them wide receivers. Really interesting to me just how much
- 16:02Speaker 3: does Kyle Williams play? Is he clearly you know? Does
- 16:05Speaker 3: he get a few reps and then get to rest
- 16:07Speaker 3: and then it's Polk and Baker going a long way
- 16:09Speaker 3: the distance? Those are the guys you look at as
- 16:12Speaker 3: like five six right now, Chisholm, maybe as seven.
- 16:15Speaker 4: So they how do they see Kyle Williams?
- 16:17Speaker 3: You know, do they see this as an opportunity for
- 16:19Speaker 3: him to really get a ton of reps where he
- 16:21Speaker 3: might just be a rotational piece, I feel like once
- 16:24Speaker 3: we get to the season at least early on, but
- 16:26Speaker 3: or do they just want to see Polk and Baker
- 16:28Speaker 3: get a ton of snaps. I think those guys are
- 16:30Speaker 3: kind of locked on a competition right now.
- 16:32Speaker 2: So speaking of Friday, of course it's the preseason game one,
- 16:36Speaker 2: but it's also the unveiling of the Brady statue and
- 16:40Speaker 2: it's been announced that that will start at six o'clock.
- 16:43Speaker 2: We'll have that live on Patriots dot com, so you
- 16:46Speaker 2: can watch that ceremony. It shouldn't take that long, fifteen
- 16:50Speaker 2: twenty minutes. Obviously, Tom Brady will be there with his family,
- 16:54Speaker 2: and there'll be other VIPs there. I'm sure Robert Kraft
- 16:56Speaker 2: will speak as well as Tom. But yeah, so excited
- 17:00Speaker 2: to see the statue unveiled.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Yeah yeah then we'll I guess we'll go right into
- 17:04Speaker 3: the pregame show. But Pauline and I will be waiting
- 17:07Speaker 3: to go and there and.
- 17:08Speaker 4: We'll break it all down. So yeah, so long in.
- 17:10Speaker 5: The bullpen, Mike.
- 17:11Speaker 8: I hope you have a long, you know, breakdown of
- 17:14Speaker 8: the statue.
- 17:15Speaker 4: You know, all the specifics to wait.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and no matter you know, no matter what it
- 17:19Speaker 2: looks like. Half the people will like it, and half
- 17:22Speaker 2: people won't. Oh yeah, you know, yeah, they'll say, oh,
- 17:24Speaker 2: you should have done this, he should have been doing that,
- 17:26Speaker 2: he should have looked like you know. So I think
- 17:29Speaker 2: the main thing is does it look like him? If
- 17:31Speaker 2: you can, if you can conquer that, that's half the battle,
- 17:35Speaker 2: you know. Now the pose is you know, debatable. Everyone's
- 17:39Speaker 2: got their opinion on what the pose should be, but.
- 17:41Speaker 15: It's got to look like I oh, so, I know, Well,
- 17:44Speaker 15: the statue is there.
- 17:47Speaker 12: I just can't help but think of Rocky three and
- 17:49Speaker 12: mister t and with this with the statue unveiling.
- 17:51Speaker 3: And you know, just like that, like Peyton Manning is
- 17:54Speaker 3: going to come crash this and like hit on Tom
- 17:56Speaker 3: Brady's girlfriend in front of us. It's like, give the real, immediate,
- 18:03Speaker 3: real man, the old man got no heart, right, or
- 18:07Speaker 3: we're gonna some night be out here and Brady's going
- 18:09Speaker 3: to pull up to it the motorcycle.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Yeah, he's upset about something.
- 18:14Speaker 2: It always comes back to movies, all right, that he's
- 18:17Speaker 2: still some stairs she could run up to.
- 18:19Speaker 4: I mean they're not directly to the statue. Are stairs there?
- 18:22Speaker 4: You can get the whole Rocky What.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Would what would Tom? Well? Tom has the jay Z song, right,
- 18:27Speaker 2: we can't hum it or else we'll be soon back.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Never do that, Okay, So what else are we talking
- 18:33Speaker 2: about today? We've got joint practices tomorrow, We've got the
- 18:36Speaker 2: practices we've just had. We've talked a little bit about injuries,
- 18:39Speaker 2: We've got the Brady unveiling. What else do we want
- 18:43Speaker 2: to put on the table? Anything?
- 18:45Speaker 3: I feel like you get to the point right now
- 18:46Speaker 3: where you kind of settle in and you have a
- 18:48Speaker 3: good sense of you know, the guys who are in
- 18:50Speaker 3: the mix to play and be a significant part of
- 18:52Speaker 3: the team, and the guys who are you know, maybe
- 18:54Speaker 3: trying to push or hoping for an injury.
- 18:55Speaker 4: And you know, then you get to this point, you're
- 18:57Speaker 4: like joint practices now preseason.
- 18:59Speaker 3: Games, like we want to see some actual tackling, some
- 19:02Speaker 3: real football, and I think these.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Are where you really learn the most, so that they
- 19:06Speaker 4: feel like these first two weeks you're kind of set
- 19:09Speaker 4: in the states. We see actual tackling, not in the
- 19:11Speaker 4: joint practice, but you know.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Friday night will in the game, I think, and then
- 19:15Speaker 3: you'll see hopefully, but you know, since of the run
- 19:18Speaker 3: game a little bit better, a little bit more with
- 19:20Speaker 3: some of these offensive linemen and where there are so
- 19:22Speaker 3: many questions on.
- 19:23Speaker 4: The offensive line, I just think, you know, getting to see.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Marcus Bryant, trade Jacobs, really get some reps out there
- 19:28Speaker 3: as Trade Jacobs made any strides might be a little
- 19:31Speaker 3: bit too early on Bandarian Low. He just came back
- 19:33Speaker 3: this week, might be able to asking a lot for
- 19:34Speaker 3: him to hop into a game. But just if any
- 19:36Speaker 3: of these guys Leyden Robinson really hasn't done much in camp,
- 19:39Speaker 3: can he I mean, he's got a real big opportunity
- 19:41Speaker 3: right now with two of these kind of guards above him.
- 19:44Speaker 4: So we'll see somebody pops once once the lights come on.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Next week looking ahead, they'll be off to Minnesota to
- 19:49Speaker 2: have joint practices with the Vikings. So two.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Yeah, it's gonna be two practices, which not kind of
- 19:55Speaker 4: a little bit of a throwback. I guess at this
- 19:56Speaker 4: point team most teams going to just one joint practice. Yep,
- 20:00Speaker 4: So I guess they trust kevital call was.
- 20:02Speaker 2: A recent move, I guess for various reasons, but one
- 20:05Speaker 2: of them was like things would boil up and yeah
- 20:08Speaker 2: flow over them.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Well, that second day at Green Bay Camp, I mean
- 20:12Speaker 3: I was with the defense. It was like seven fights
- 20:14Speaker 3: in the first nine snaps.
- 20:16Speaker 12: There was still just feel like once you know, Washington
- 20:19Speaker 12: to Boston is not a bad fight, but once you
- 20:22Speaker 12: start to stretch it, like, if you're not going to
- 20:23Speaker 12: have two practices, was it would it really be worth
- 20:25Speaker 12: bringing everybody to Minnesota?
- 20:27Speaker 8: Yeah for one practice? Like point probably not.
- 20:30Speaker 12: But I just like bigger picture thought when I was
- 20:33Speaker 12: driving in today about the preseason, like how many how
- 20:36Speaker 12: much longer are we going to do? Three of these
- 20:38Speaker 12: and like like how little can we do? Like what's
- 20:41Speaker 12: the number that we can possibly get to that feels
- 20:44Speaker 12: like these aren't a waste of time.
- 20:46Speaker 2: It'll be down to two within two years.
- 20:47Speaker 12: Because two feels like, Okay, you want to give the
- 20:50Speaker 12: back end of the roster guys a chance to compete,
- 20:52Speaker 12: and I get I and also put film out there
- 20:54Speaker 12: for the other thirty one teams and like all that
- 20:56Speaker 12: good stuff. But to do his point, like we pretty
- 20:59Speaker 12: much know who the team is at this point, Like
- 21:01Speaker 12: there's four or five spots that I think are up
- 21:03Speaker 12: for grabs that people are competing for with the Patriots,
- 21:06Speaker 12: but you know who the starting you know, eleven are
- 21:10Speaker 12: on both sides. You know, like the twenty twenty five
- 21:12Speaker 12: guys are that are going to contribute? Like, can we
- 21:14Speaker 12: just move this a lot a little bit faster because
- 21:17Speaker 12: I think these preseason games are.
- 21:19Speaker 2: I just you know, I understand that the starters don't
- 21:23Speaker 2: play a lot in the preseason, but they play a little.
- 21:25Speaker 2: And I think you need to have some real tackling
- 21:28Speaker 2: under your belt before you get into a real game.
- 21:30Speaker 2: So you don't tackle and practice anymore, so you have
- 21:34Speaker 2: to have some ability to get your body tackling.
- 21:39Speaker 4: Yeah too.
- 21:42Speaker 5: Yeah, the fact that we've been having the same conversation
- 21:44Speaker 5: for twenty five years, I know. And they don't tackle
- 21:46Speaker 5: in the preseason and at the beginning of the season,
- 21:49Speaker 5: the football is a little sloppy, right, and then they
- 21:51Speaker 5: get on with it, right, it's not going to change,
- 21:53Speaker 5: But they don't play. The starters don't play.
- 21:55Speaker 2: People complain that the September football sucks.
- 21:59Speaker 5: No, I know, but then it's not going to change.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Well, I mean they could, but.
- 22:04Speaker 5: The starters don't play. They don't want to risk them
- 22:06Speaker 5: getting hurt in preseason games. It's bad enough that they're
- 22:09Speaker 5: going to get hurt in the regular games. And they
- 22:11Speaker 5: just don't play a lot. And the more established you, why,
- 22:13Speaker 5: the less you play.
- 22:15Speaker 12: And as you should, like I don't blame any teams
- 22:17Speaker 12: for not like if like, if I'm the Patriots, I'm
- 22:20Speaker 12: not playing any of my guys because we have these
- 22:22Speaker 12: joint practices, Like there's no reason to risk it in
- 22:25Speaker 12: the regular season. In the preseason games when you have
- 22:27Speaker 12: three joint practices coming up over the next two weeks, Like.
- 22:30Speaker 8: I wouldn't risk it either.
- 22:31Speaker 12: But it's it's just not a good product, Like it's
- 22:34Speaker 12: not like the preseason games. It's aren't good for the fans,
- 22:36Speaker 12: it's not good for the players, Like, just get on
- 22:38Speaker 12: with it, like two preseason games back.
- 22:40Speaker 2: But I don't know, can you make the case that
- 22:43Speaker 2: by not conditioning your body to tackle in the preseason
- 22:47Speaker 2: that you're more susceptible to injury once the season starts,
- 22:50Speaker 2: like for a guy like a linebacker or you know,
- 22:53Speaker 2: a safety.
- 22:54Speaker 5: You can make that, make any argument you want, but
- 22:56Speaker 5: it's just not going to change. Like, I mean, you can't.
- 22:59Speaker 5: I don't think. I don't think that that's silly what
- 23:01Speaker 5: you just said that you could make that argument easily. So,
- 23:04Speaker 5: but it's not going to change. That's my only point.
- 23:06Speaker 5: I'm not telling you that I'm pro or against for
- 23:10Speaker 5: again as you like to say.
- 23:13Speaker 3: You're saying that because you're not going back to telling
- 23:15Speaker 3: the players they got to start being more physical again once.
- 23:17Speaker 5: You leationship is sick, I just don't think it's going
- 23:19Speaker 5: to happen.
- 23:20Speaker 2: But but but here's the thing. So this reduction of
- 23:25Speaker 2: the physicality in practice came about for two reasons. One,
- 23:31Speaker 2: you know the concussion issue, but also it was a
- 23:34Speaker 2: concession in the CBA. Right, Well, oh, we're not going
- 23:39Speaker 2: to give you more money that you're looking for, But
- 23:41Speaker 2: we'll make we'll make the off season a little bit
- 23:43Speaker 2: less physical. I'll bet you if you pulled all the players,
- 23:47Speaker 2: they take the money over the physical less physicality, you know.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:52Speaker 5: Yeah, if you want to say, my choice is to
- 23:54Speaker 5: make more money or be more physical in practice, they'll
- 23:57Speaker 5: take the more money. Absolutely.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Yeah. So who knows what the lack.
- 24:01Speaker 5: Of tackling at practice. I don't remember the last time
- 24:03Speaker 5: I saw any sort of consistent tackling at practice. I
- 24:06Speaker 5: can't even remember. I don't remember it ever a little
- 24:08Speaker 5: bit last summer they did. They did, I'm just talking
- 24:11Speaker 5: about on a consistent basis at practice. I don't ever
- 24:14Speaker 5: remember it. At a Bill Belichick training camp. I saw
- 24:16Speaker 5: a little of it with Pete Carroll, but not very much.
- 24:20Speaker 5: Probably less than they was for Mayo last year. Yeah,
- 24:23Speaker 5: you'd see some live goal line with Belichick. That's it.
- 24:26Speaker 5: So I don't think that it's realistic to say, well,
- 24:29Speaker 5: they should go back to more more physical practices in
- 24:31Speaker 5: training camp, because whether you think they should or not,
- 24:33Speaker 5: I don't think it's going to happen. So it's kind
- 24:35Speaker 5: of a moot point.
- 24:36Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm not like what they do live tackling a
- 24:40Speaker 8: lot of them.
- 24:41Speaker 12: Yeah, but like that's because they have like one hundred
- 24:44Speaker 12: and fifty players on the roster and they have to
- 24:46Speaker 12: like figure it out right, and you know, somebody the
- 24:49Speaker 12: fifth string defensive end gets hurt. It's like not that
- 24:52Speaker 12: big of a deal. But like I feel like I'm
- 24:55Speaker 12: not saying abolished preseason. I just think there doesn't need
- 24:59Speaker 12: to be more than two. Yeah, Like you have to
- 25:01Speaker 12: dress rehearsal opportunities, whether to play your starters or to
- 25:04Speaker 12: audition if you're going out for you know, a roster
- 25:07Speaker 12: spot at the back end of the roster or a
- 25:09Speaker 12: roll or something like that, you have two opportunities you have.
- 25:12Speaker 12: Every team does joint practices now, it feels like most years,
- 25:15Speaker 12: so you're gonna have those opportunities as well.
- 25:18Speaker 8: It just feels like it's enough.
- 25:20Speaker 3: I wonder too, if there's an angle with just the
- 25:22Speaker 3: coaching staff needing preseason games to all get on the
- 25:25Speaker 3: same page and to work, and it's is it more
- 25:27Speaker 3: than just about getting the players ready, it's also about
- 25:29Speaker 3: getting the coaching staff ready.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Yeah, you know you need those games that the actual
- 25:35Speaker 2: scenarios that come up within a game.
- 25:37Speaker 3: How's the communication going, who's on the headsets, all that
- 25:40Speaker 3: kind of stuff. I mean, I'm sure it could all
- 25:42Speaker 3: be figured out, but I would guess that some of
- 25:44Speaker 3: the coaching staff probably likes I.
- 25:46Speaker 5: Think that's why they One of the reasons why they
- 25:49Speaker 5: like to do joint practices is they can manufacture those
- 25:52Speaker 5: and don't come up in the games.
- 25:54Speaker 2: And to take it even a step further, do the
- 25:55Speaker 2: stadiums need to practice runs or for preseason games?
- 25:59Speaker 4: You know, beverage, get it, get it geared up?
- 26:01Speaker 2: Yah, all the support staff, security, ticket takers. You need
- 26:06Speaker 2: those live rehearsals, if you will, to get ready for
- 26:11Speaker 2: you know, the real games.
- 26:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:13Speaker 12: So yeah, I'm not trying to take away your screen time,
- 26:17Speaker 12: bly you know, and the Bob's discount for.
- 26:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean obviously you don't know. I'm I'm like,
- 26:24Speaker 5: I'm really happy to be part of the broadcast and whatnot.
- 26:28Speaker 5: But I recognize them for what they are. I mean,
- 26:30Speaker 5: it's it's minutia that is just not all that interesting
- 26:35Speaker 5: to most of the fans. Now, there's some diehards that
- 26:38Speaker 5: are interested in the you know, the bottom twenty of
- 26:40Speaker 5: the roster from seventy to ninety you know how those
- 26:43Speaker 5: guys look who's on the practice squad. Yeah, but that's
- 26:46Speaker 5: that's a niche, I'll get it.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Of the big four sports, which do you think exhibition
- 26:51Speaker 2: games are most important?
- 26:54Speaker 5: Probably baseball, I was going to say, because you have
- 26:57Speaker 5: to actually play the game to be especially pitching to
- 27:02Speaker 5: the even the repetition of hitting. Yeah, that's you know,
- 27:06Speaker 5: there's a reason why. I mean, I know you guys
- 27:08Speaker 5: don't want to talk about you know Raffi. Yeah, there's
- 27:11Speaker 5: the reason why he struck out fifteen of his first
- 27:13Speaker 5: nineteen at bats. He didn't do anything all spring.
- 27:16Speaker 12: Right, Yeah, Or like why guys go on rehab assignments
- 27:19Speaker 12: when they're coming off injuries and they go to the
- 27:20Speaker 12: miners to cover a couple of weeks to get their
- 27:23Speaker 12: rhythm back at baseball?
- 27:26Speaker 2: All right? Eighty five to five Pats five hundred is
- 27:28Speaker 2: the hotline podcast at Patriots dot How was.
- 27:31Speaker 5: PP two without the benefit of practice?
- 27:35Speaker 4: No, I was thinking hockey's one where you just need practice.
- 27:37Speaker 3: You just got to get your hands and feet and sync.
- 27:39Speaker 3: But playing in actual games one or.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Two scrimmages podcasts at Patriots dot com address, you know,
- 27:47Speaker 2: that was rude.
- 27:48Speaker 4: I'm sorry.
- 27:49Speaker 5: Sorry, I get my shot at.
- 27:51Speaker 3: I'm gett Albert Breer got scolded by Brett Toucher the
- 27:55Speaker 3: other day and he spoke over one of his video
- 27:58Speaker 3: just getting upset.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Called him a moron. Did he really? Oh yeah, he
- 28:02Speaker 2: was mad. Wow. Well, they have this complicated giveaway and
- 28:07Speaker 2: I won't mention like the type of car it is
- 28:10Speaker 2: or who's giving it away, but there's several steps you
- 28:14Speaker 2: have to do in order to qualify. And so he's
- 28:16Speaker 2: trying to lay out these steps for the listeners, and
- 28:19Speaker 2: and Breer chimes in with some research that he did,
- 28:23Speaker 2: you know while on the break, So what.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Are you doing?
- 28:27Speaker 6: It was?
- 28:28Speaker 2: It was funny, Actually he was good.
- 28:29Speaker 4: Rad Fred's reads again your your reads?
- 28:32Speaker 5: That's funny. No, I was definitely in the wrong there.
- 28:35Speaker 2: I was guilty of Sorry. All right, let's go to
- 28:39Speaker 2: the phones. We'll see what people have to say. Uh,
- 28:42Speaker 2: Nate and Connecticut's first one?
- 28:44Speaker 16: Up?
- 28:44Speaker 2: What's up?
- 28:44Speaker 1: Nate?
- 28:46Speaker 2: Not we're just listening to you, that's what's up?
- 28:51Speaker 17: Oh yeah, that's true.
- 28:52Speaker 6: Uh So my question for you guys is about Javon Baker.
- 28:57Speaker 6: Based on what I've heard, he had a really good
- 29:00Speaker 6: practice yesterday, calling in a couple of touchdowns and hassling
- 29:04Speaker 6: good catches. What have you guys been out of him
- 29:07Speaker 6: so far within these past training camps. Has he been
- 29:11Speaker 6: froster worthy would you say? Or is he still trying
- 29:13Speaker 6: to work his way up so you know, getting their
- 29:15Speaker 6: respect and getting his name up in the list, and yeah,
- 29:20Speaker 6: you guys think, okay.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Thanks Nate say flashes, I mean flashes of of what
- 29:25Speaker 3: he does, which is an acrobatic nature to his game.
- 29:28Speaker 3: He moves different, He's got an explosiveness to him that
- 29:31Speaker 3: maybe the other guys don't necessarily have.
- 29:33Speaker 4: But it's just consistency for me. And that's as soon as.
- 29:36Speaker 3: We grouped up yesterday at the end of practice, it
- 29:38Speaker 3: was yeah, he had three straight touchdown catches and sevens.
- 29:40Speaker 3: He had another grab and eleven's and then we got
- 29:43Speaker 3: down when things got a little tighter and looked like
- 29:45Speaker 3: he had another one and it got punched out pretty quick.
- 29:47Speaker 3: So you know, had he held on too that, I
- 29:49Speaker 3: would say he's really starting to keep that momentum. That
- 29:51Speaker 3: one play maybe downgraded my overall impression of him, but
- 29:56Speaker 3: there's no question he's the one making the push over
- 29:58Speaker 3: Jaln polkinefting chis right.
- 30:00Speaker 4: Now for that maybe last one or two receiver spots.
- 30:03Speaker 12: Yeah, I feel like I've given this takes seven times
- 30:07Speaker 12: already on Javon Baker. But I just feel like the
- 30:10Speaker 12: two things, Like one, I can't quit what I thought
- 30:12Speaker 12: of him in the draft, and I was pretty high
- 30:14Speaker 12: on him going into that draft and thought it was
- 30:16Speaker 12: a pretty good pick.
- 30:17Speaker 8: I know there was things.
- 30:18Speaker 12: Off the field or with character stuff that had him
- 30:21Speaker 12: fall to the fourth round, but to get a talent
- 30:23Speaker 12: like that at one hundred and ten overall felt like
- 30:25Speaker 12: a pretty good pick at the time. And I just
- 30:28Speaker 12: still see the raw talent with him that is like
- 30:30Speaker 12: you were saying, dude, it's kind of unique in that room,
- 30:33Speaker 12: Like there's not a lot of six two two oh
- 30:36Speaker 12: five with a four to five with ability to go
- 30:38Speaker 12: above the room and win at the catch point down
- 30:40Speaker 12: the field. Like they don't really have like a jump
- 30:43Speaker 12: ball receiver on the team outside of him. And so
- 30:46Speaker 12: if it's Keishan Boodie, it's Kyle Williams. You know, these
- 30:50Speaker 12: guys are are different skill sets. They're not exactly the
- 30:53Speaker 12: same as Javon Baker. So his skill set stands out
- 30:57Speaker 12: over the rest of these players. Now, is that enough
- 30:59Speaker 12: to put him on the roster. I don't know, but
- 31:02Speaker 12: to me, he's like the one guy that they can
- 31:04Speaker 12: put on the outside and actually he can win the
- 31:06Speaker 12: ball down the field, you know, in a contested situation.
- 31:09Speaker 8: I don't know if that's the other guy's game.
- 31:11Speaker 5: If not for that characteristic, I'd be a hard no.
- 31:14Speaker 5: But he does provide something that they do not have
- 31:17Speaker 5: any other guy on the roster that has that skill set.
- 31:21Speaker 5: So because of that, I want to see some more.
- 31:24Speaker 5: But I've watched him now for you know, a full
- 31:27Speaker 5: year last year and pretty much all of camp this year,
- 31:30Speaker 5: and he's just so wildly inconsistent. I'm a no dog,
- 31:35Speaker 5: but he does have a skill set that I don't
- 31:39Speaker 5: really think that they have anybody else that has.
- 31:42Speaker 4: It's one of those guys just really hard. I think
- 31:43Speaker 4: from a coaching standpoint that you're.
- 31:46Speaker 15: Intrigued by the traits that he has, but if you
- 31:50Speaker 15: can't count on him and you know he's not going
- 31:52Speaker 15: to deliver it, So that's somebody to me, who's going
- 31:56Speaker 15: to play a lot on this preseason and talk about
- 31:58Speaker 15: eliminating preseason games.
- 32:00Speaker 3: You know, if you do go down to one or two,
- 32:01Speaker 3: it's guys like Jaymon Baker, who are on that bubble,
- 32:04Speaker 3: who have the talent, who maybe just need a couple
- 32:06Speaker 3: of games where they play a bunch to find I just.
- 32:08Speaker 5: Need that to be in practice. I don't need it
- 32:10Speaker 5: to be like catching a patch from Ben Ben Wooldridge
- 32:13Speaker 5: to tell me that he can do something. That's that's
- 32:15Speaker 5: my whole field with the whole preseason games thing. If
- 32:18Speaker 5: he was going to be out there with Drake May
- 32:20Speaker 5: for three quarters, now that's a different story. But I
- 32:23Speaker 5: just again, I fought that fight. I don't think it's
- 32:26Speaker 5: ever coming back like that. Some of the frontline guys
- 32:29Speaker 5: will play like Patrick Mahomes generally plays every year in
- 32:32Speaker 5: the preseason a little bit more than most guys of
- 32:35Speaker 5: his you know stature, but not a lot. You know,
- 32:40Speaker 5: he'll get a series.
- 32:41Speaker 2: He would help the league more. A minor league or
- 32:46Speaker 2: you know Pro Football favorite in the spring or a
- 32:50Speaker 2: minor league that's happening while the NFL seasons that you
- 32:54Speaker 2: could pull people from as you need them, as injuries
- 32:57Speaker 2: come up, or as guys start to flash you you
- 33:00Speaker 2: can you can sign people from this other league.
- 33:02Speaker 3: It might be hard to maintain during the season where
- 33:05Speaker 3: you're constantly losing guys and then you got to find
- 33:07Speaker 3: new guys to fill those guys. If you're just kind
- 33:09Speaker 3: of a feeder system for the NFL, so you.
- 33:11Speaker 12: Have to always separate, like you'd have to have your
- 33:15Speaker 12: own GM and your own head coach have to be
- 33:17Speaker 12: literally it's on separate entity because that team.
- 33:21Speaker 2: The Patriots, like, it's not the Patriots minor league team,
- 33:24Speaker 2: it's the NFL's minor league teams and t and each
- 33:29Speaker 2: team can draw from anybody. M hm, you can decide
- 33:32Speaker 2: to sign anyone.
- 33:33Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, I mean I've always said that I'd love
- 33:37Speaker 12: to see something like that. Now I think of it
- 33:39Speaker 12: more of a spring thing, so that it fills the
- 33:41Speaker 12: void of when we don't have for NFL football. I
- 33:44Speaker 12: don't know who's watching when there's college on Saturday and
- 33:48Speaker 12: there's NFL on else like, So it's not necessarily filling
- 33:53Speaker 12: that void like it would in the spring, but.
- 33:56Speaker 2: I would know that, like, if a guy starts really
- 33:58Speaker 2: doing well in that league, the NFL teams are gonna
- 34:01Speaker 2: notice and they could grab him, might you know, uh,
- 34:06Speaker 2: spur interest in the league.
- 34:08Speaker 12: Would have to play on like a Tuesday night, Like
- 34:09Speaker 12: it'd have to be something, you know, I.
- 34:11Speaker 4: Think the thing is hard to me though.
- 34:13Speaker 3: It's just that when you see this happen with like
- 34:15Speaker 3: UFL guys, it's never really anybody all that talented. I
- 34:18Speaker 3: mean in theory the way you're laying it out, it's
- 34:20Speaker 3: like and maybe someone will blossom like well this is.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Where like a Javon Baker.
- 34:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Maybe, but I just think that would be so rare
- 34:28Speaker 3: to really find players that made it through the cracks.
- 34:30Speaker 5: And a lot of those guys in the UFL, you know,
- 34:32Speaker 5: the kind of play comes to it immediately comes to mind,
- 34:37Speaker 5: you know, big.
- 34:37Speaker 8: Tall draft media got that you know, uh, you know.
- 34:41Speaker 5: X receiver, you know on the outside. I see him
- 34:44Speaker 5: in the in the UFL, but kind of I'm the
- 34:46Speaker 5: only one that's a loser and watching some of that stuff.
- 34:50Speaker 12: Like Jeremiah Farms is probably one of the best like
- 34:53Speaker 12: cases of it. I mean, I'm sure there's others and
- 34:55Speaker 12: other teams, just the ones I know are the Patriots.
- 34:58Speaker 12: Like Jeremiah Farm said a nice run in one of
- 35:00Speaker 12: those spring leagues, and the Patriots found him from there
- 35:03Speaker 12: and now he's been like a rotational piece for them
- 35:06Speaker 12: for the last couple of years. So that's probably been
- 35:08Speaker 12: the best success story here locally.
- 35:10Speaker 4: Some of the kickers too, I think probably have been
- 35:12Speaker 4: in some of those leagues.
- 35:12Speaker 5: Bates kid for uh, Detroit had a terrific season for them.
- 35:16Speaker 5: That's a little bit yes, Jake Bates, Yeah, yes, but
- 35:19Speaker 5: as a specialist dud and that that translates like it's
- 35:22Speaker 5: not like the level of competition you're kicking the ball,
- 35:26Speaker 5: you can he was kicking it in ford field for
- 35:27Speaker 5: the Michigan Panthers and for the Detroit Lions. Nothing changed.
- 35:31Speaker 3: It's funny for as many draft picks as every NFL
- 35:33Speaker 3: front office gets wrong, they still seem to generally be
- 35:37Speaker 3: able to identify the talent pool and the.
- 35:39Speaker 4: Guys down there. It's I mean, there's some.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Draft picks where you look back at you know whatever,
- 35:43Speaker 3: twenty seventeen and you go right down. We did that
- 35:45Speaker 3: a couple of months ago, and there's so many players
- 35:48Speaker 3: that you're like, who's this guy? Like completely out of
- 35:50Speaker 3: the league. How could the NFL be so wrong about that?
- 35:52Speaker 3: And yet you'd think if that's the case, that in
- 35:55Speaker 3: those lower leagues there would be some gems that through
- 35:58Speaker 3: the cracks. But I think we found that guy was
- 36:01Speaker 3: Cam Wake Was he like a CFL one that was
- 36:03Speaker 3: one where he kind of something like that. He did
- 36:06Speaker 3: play in the season one that that was maybe a
- 36:08Speaker 3: little bit like that and be and actually became a
- 36:10Speaker 3: like a star in the NFL, but really rare.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Yeah, let's go to Brian and Indiana. What's up Brian?
- 36:18Speaker 17: Hey, guys, how are we doing good?
- 36:21Speaker 1: Hey?
- 36:21Speaker 17: Just two quick things. What is the possibility of the
- 36:26Speaker 17: team potentially moving on from ramondre Stevenson after the season.
- 36:30Speaker 17: I don't think he's really lived up to the contract
- 36:33Speaker 17: and we have a new regime. And it was just
- 36:36Speaker 17: one of your guys' thoughts on that. And then last
- 36:38Speaker 17: but not least, Bred and Paul when you guys go
- 36:40Speaker 17: at it, that's probably my favorite part of the show.
- 36:43Speaker 17: Love to see it. I'll take it off the year.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Thanks guys, Okay, thanks Brian fight for me?
- 36:47Speaker 5: Well yeah, yeah, Dance, I would say there's a better
- 36:53Speaker 5: than average shot that they move on from reminder seasons
- 36:55Speaker 5: and after the season.
- 36:57Speaker 12: So his contract is really two more years yep. Now
- 37:01Speaker 12: they can cap stuff. Well, if they can need dead money,
- 37:05Speaker 12: they can.
- 37:05Speaker 2: You know, let's see what type of season he has, right, but.
- 37:08Speaker 8: He's here for this year.
- 37:09Speaker 12: I think unless the trade comes up, which I don't
- 37:12Speaker 12: think it will, but if it did, but contractually his
- 37:17Speaker 12: deal kind of runs through twenty twenty six, right, so
- 37:20Speaker 12: it's up.
- 37:21Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't know.
- 37:22Speaker 4: I'd still i'd still want to hang on to Antonio Gibson.
- 37:25Speaker 3: I've seen some people positive that maybe he's on, could
- 37:28Speaker 3: be on, like a trade candidate.
- 37:29Speaker 4: I don't I don't know.
- 37:30Speaker 5: Yeah, oh yeah, you know you need I mean you
- 37:32Speaker 5: need I'm sort of anti running the ball, but you
- 37:35Speaker 5: actually need running back.
- 37:36Speaker 14: You have you have.
- 37:37Speaker 5: I don't care who they are, but you have to
- 37:38Speaker 5: have some running backs on your roster.
- 37:40Speaker 8: Sure, I think they keep four.
- 37:41Speaker 12: I think Larson's gonna might stick to to Paul's point, like,
- 37:45Speaker 12: I think they're gonna need the running backs, and you're
- 37:47Speaker 12: not one hundred percent sure about Stevenson. And if you
- 37:50Speaker 12: can rely on Stevenson, well, if Gibson and Henderson become
- 37:53Speaker 12: like the one two punch, then you need a backup.
- 37:56Speaker 3: And they had a backup with some size that could
- 37:59Speaker 3: maybe be in really down kind of guy and maybe
- 38:01Speaker 3: would consider it. But I still think that ramondro Stevens
- 38:04Speaker 3: is so unique on this team in terms of his
- 38:06Speaker 3: size and his ability to be balanced that it would
- 38:09Speaker 3: be hard to get by with just Gibson and Henderson.
- 38:10Speaker 4: I feel like you'd be kind of limited.
- 38:12Speaker 12: The worst case scenario happens and Remondred has a year
- 38:15Speaker 12: like he did last year.
- 38:16Speaker 6: It's just.
- 38:18Speaker 12: Other than eating the dead money and just moving on, like,
- 38:21Speaker 12: there's not gonna be a trade market. There's barely trade
- 38:23Speaker 12: markets for running Back says it is, So I just
- 38:26Speaker 12: that's that's a difficult part. When we talk about Stevenson,
- 38:29Speaker 12: is like, how like, how are you moving him? Well,
- 38:31Speaker 12: you know, unless you're just gonna rip it up.
- 38:33Speaker 5: But yeah, I mean I would expect both of those
- 38:37Speaker 5: guys from Stevenson and Gibson be part of the twenty
- 38:40Speaker 5: five picture, you know, going forward. I agree with you
- 38:44Speaker 5: know O'Brien the way he said it. You know, it's
- 38:46Speaker 5: kind of a contracts from our previous regime, and you're
- 38:50Speaker 5: gonna be looking to get you know, some of your
- 38:52Speaker 5: own guys much like they did this year. You can't
- 38:55Speaker 5: just like wipe them all away. But I think that
- 38:57Speaker 5: they they said goodbye to a handful of guys that
- 39:00Speaker 5: were under contract, like Andrews and Bentley and you know,
- 39:04Speaker 5: and some of those kinds of guys, and I think
- 39:06Speaker 5: there'll be more next year.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Wise and godscha, they were.
- 39:09Speaker 5: Well Godshaw was traded. Wise was a free agent.
- 39:12Speaker 2: He was Brad's in Ohio. What's up, Brad?
- 39:17Speaker 18: Hi, guys, how you doing that.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Good?
- 39:21Speaker 19: I've just got a couple uh questions and observations.
- 39:27Speaker 13: First of all, with.
- 39:28Speaker 19: The preseason games, I think the only thing you can
- 39:31Speaker 19: actually glean from that is once in a while you'll
- 39:34Speaker 19: see a player that popped out, you know, so there
- 39:40Speaker 19: you fight, you find that you actually hit a gym
- 39:44Speaker 19: once in a blue Uh. But you know, and I
- 39:48Speaker 19: wondered about it, we would might have if we keep
- 39:52Speaker 19: more receivers, like I'm anticipating if McDaniel's uses three and
- 40:00Speaker 19: were in five receivers, said with uh, Anderson and you
- 40:06Speaker 19: know two running back in a bunch formation in the shotgun.
- 40:12Speaker 19: Do you think the attributes of the wide receivers we
- 40:15Speaker 19: have even those, the differences would mesh well and like
- 40:19Speaker 19: bunch formations or something like that. And I believe Hope
- 40:25Speaker 19: and Baker that to me, this is their first season.
- 40:29Speaker 19: I mean they the coaching was sol atrocious and everywhere.
- 40:33Speaker 19: I just don't think they had an opportunity to do.
- 40:38Speaker 7: Anything, you know.
- 40:38Speaker 2: But but you know, thanks Bratt. I mean, they did
- 40:42Speaker 2: what they did. You know, it's it's still their ability
- 40:44Speaker 2: out there, whether or not the coach. You know, they
- 40:47Speaker 2: were coached up to that point in college and everything.
- 40:50Speaker 2: So I hear what he's saying that I don't don't.
- 40:53Speaker 5: I don't buy that at all. Like, how was Booty
- 40:57Speaker 5: What do you mean how was Kai shan Bouti last year?
- 41:00Speaker 5: He came on at the end despite not having any coaching,
- 41:04Speaker 5: his talent, sort of his talent. You know, let's not
- 41:08Speaker 5: just put it. I mean, I'm just not here for
- 41:10Speaker 5: the whole like everything was a disaster last year because
- 41:15Speaker 5: of the coaching staff. I'm not going to get into.
- 41:16Speaker 5: It's not Gerard Mayo bashing season for me. I know
- 41:20Speaker 5: that that's been a real good thing for a lot
- 41:23Speaker 5: of people. That make them, everybody feel better about the
- 41:25Speaker 5: fact that they only won four games last year was
- 41:27Speaker 5: all because of the big bad mini coach two years ago.
- 41:30Speaker 5: And then you know, the guy who was too easy
- 41:32Speaker 5: on them last year. That's why they've won four games.
- 41:34Speaker 5: It's not it's not a lot of the players that
- 41:37Speaker 5: they have haven't been good enough and that's why I
- 41:40Speaker 5: think Elliott Wolf, Ryan Cowden and Mike Rabel have worked
- 41:44Speaker 5: really hard to bring in a lot of new players
- 41:47Speaker 5: to replace a lot of the guys that have been
- 41:49Speaker 5: on those rosters the last year.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Said it almost on day one, this team is going
- 41:52Speaker 2: to look a lot different in August.
- 41:54Speaker 5: And that's the thing that has me most optimistic about
- 41:56Speaker 5: the future. It's a combination of the young guys that
- 42:00Speaker 5: they drafted, like Henderson, that that Mike and Evan talked
- 42:03Speaker 5: about earlier and the things that he might be able
- 42:05Speaker 5: to do, and bringing in veteran guys who I think
- 42:11Speaker 5: play at a level significantly higher than the guys that
- 42:14Speaker 5: they're replacing. And we don't everybody knows all the names,
- 42:16Speaker 5: and Milton Williams and Robert splains Carlton Davis's of the world,
- 42:20Speaker 5: those guys are better than the guys they're replacing.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Travis writes in from West Virginia. A couple of caller
- 42:26Speaker 2: on caller tidbits. One you might want to rein in
- 42:29Speaker 2: Nate and Connecticut before we have another Pat Nagawam on
- 42:33Speaker 2: our hands. We don't need to hear from him every show. Well,
- 42:36Speaker 2: but here's the thing Travis, A small percentage of the
- 42:39Speaker 2: people who listen call her email.
- 42:42Speaker 5: So if you call, you're more than welcome to call
- 42:45Speaker 5: every show. Well, taking the.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Calls a call, you know, like if you want to call, call,
- 42:51Speaker 2: so Nate call, I'm gonna take Nate's call.
- 42:54Speaker 5: You don't steal that from me. I appreciate it.
- 42:56Speaker 2: But you know, variety is obviously the spice of life.
- 42:59Speaker 2: But like I said, a very very small percentage of
- 43:02Speaker 2: people who listen to sports radio in general actually call.
- 43:06Speaker 2: They just want to listen or watch, you know, they
- 43:08Speaker 2: don't want to get on the phone. So I get that.
- 43:11Speaker 2: So when people call, I answered the phone. You no.
- 43:13Speaker 3: I love when people say first time caller that they're
- 43:16Speaker 3: still moved to call in and tell us something too.
- 43:19Speaker 2: If James Pettigrew wants to refer to himself as the
- 43:22Speaker 2: most interesting Patriots fan in the world, well I refer
- 43:24Speaker 2: to him as that. Fred doesn't refer to him, it seems,
- 43:27Speaker 2: but anyway, he might want to call in with a
- 43:29Speaker 2: more interesting topic than how many wins will the Patriots have? Fred,
- 43:33Speaker 2: why do you even entertain that topic at this point?
- 43:36Speaker 2: So with criticisms for me for the callers, Travis in
- 43:41Speaker 2: West Virginia on his high horse. That's okay, that's all right.
- 43:45Speaker 3: Fire, I just want to go back for a second
- 43:48Speaker 3: with Paul was saying, I'm finding now to some intrigue
- 43:50Speaker 3: of what's the turnover like next year?
- 43:52Speaker 4: Are there? You know, it still feels like more to come.
- 43:55Speaker 3: There, still feels like there's some pieces that they weren't
- 43:57Speaker 3: quite able to hammer in the way that they want
- 44:00Speaker 3: just yet.
- 44:01Speaker 4: And a little bit to the point of what you
- 44:03Speaker 4: were saying, with a contract like Ramandra Stevenson or Michael
- 44:06Speaker 4: one of those kind of guys.
- 44:07Speaker 3: Dugger you know, to those guys after this year, do
- 44:09Speaker 3: we really see whether or not those guys fit into
- 44:12Speaker 3: what they And some.
- 44:13Speaker 5: Of the guys that they brought in, even that are
- 44:17Speaker 5: on you know, longer term contracts, they're probably not all
- 44:21Speaker 5: going to be just oh yeah, you know, he signed
- 44:23Speaker 5: a three year deal, so he was going to be
- 44:24Speaker 5: here for three years, you know, right, right.
- 44:26Speaker 12: But even like you know, to your point, just like
- 44:29Speaker 12: the Devis and the jennings Is and like like I
- 44:31Speaker 12: think get rid of all the right like I think
- 44:33Speaker 12: like some of the guys we're hoping, you know, Dugger
- 44:37Speaker 12: of Pepper's or Mandra Stevenson, Like maybe they're more of
- 44:39Speaker 12: the players that they work two years ago instead of
- 44:41Speaker 12: last year. But like, I still can't really figure out
- 44:45Speaker 12: where those two guys, in particular Jennings and Tavia are
- 44:49Speaker 12: going to fit into the vision that of the defense
- 44:51Speaker 12: that they're playing now. Like I just don't really understand
- 44:55Speaker 12: their role right now. So like I'm with you, like
- 44:58Speaker 12: those types of guys, Like I feel like they needed
- 45:01Speaker 12: to keep them around this year, probably for depth purposes,
- 45:04Speaker 12: just because they couldn't turn They can't have fifty three
- 45:06Speaker 12: new players, so you have to have certain guys that
- 45:08Speaker 12: are still around all right.

- 47:36Speaker 1: How are we doing great? Hi Karen? You miss me?
- 47:42Speaker 8: Thanks and we haven't chatted you with you since the
- 47:45Speaker 8: in stadium practice and.
- 47:49Speaker 5: The offense had some issues.
- 47:52Speaker 8: They were kind of sloppy.
- 47:53Speaker 18: A couple of interceptions from midri put the ball on
- 47:56Speaker 18: the ground.
- 47:57Speaker 1: Just curious. Yeah.
- 47:58Speaker 22: The turnovers, yeah, turnovers, you know, I thought we did
- 48:03Speaker 22: some really good things and uh try to show him that,
- 48:07Speaker 22: you know, the turnovers are certainly gonna get his beat.
- 48:11Speaker 1: We had some passes that should have been caught with some.
- 48:18Speaker 22: You know, I would say decisions right, I think, and
- 48:21Speaker 22: hopefully you know when we ask a receiver, you know,
- 48:25Speaker 22: do a run a play like that that if it's
- 48:27Speaker 22: not there, there's other ways to get out of the
- 48:30Speaker 22: play and he could continue to run.
- 48:32Speaker 1: Out of the pocket, he could throw it away.
- 48:34Speaker 22: So those are great things to teach on in those
- 48:36Speaker 22: specific instances in Remandre. You know, when make a great
- 48:40Speaker 22: cut and you and you break through, know that that
- 48:44Speaker 22: every team in the league is and hopefully ours is
- 48:46Speaker 22: one of those teams that you know, the guys coming
- 48:48Speaker 22: to the ball and they're they're gonna come and hammer it,
- 48:50Speaker 22: and they're gonna they're gonna play full tilt to the tackle.
- 48:53Speaker 1: And so.
- 48:55Speaker 22: The cut, great cut, good job in the open field
- 48:59Speaker 22: and you know, fun Fortunately we'll have to continue to
- 49:02Speaker 22: rep that and take.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Care of football.
- 49:03Speaker 22: But that that's something that those things that you mentioned,
- 49:07Speaker 22: I think overshadow a lot of the good stuff that
- 49:11Speaker 22: that we did in a in a in a team
- 49:13Speaker 22: setting that had the team split up and had different
- 49:16Speaker 22: guys working with with different you know, guys next.
- 49:20Speaker 17: To him times last year, I know you were here.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Does he get like a fresh clean slate from you?
- 49:27Speaker 22: Or everybody has a fresh clean slate, and you know,
- 49:30Speaker 22: we like to go through those things. And some of
- 49:32Speaker 22: that is techniques. Some of that is the second guy
- 49:34Speaker 22: in a lot of times on fumbles. If you want
- 49:36Speaker 22: to talk fumbles and ball security, I'm happy to do that.
- 49:39Speaker 22: But one person is going to have the ball in
- 49:41Speaker 22: their hand, uh, every play offensively, and the rest of
- 49:45Speaker 22: those ten players are going to be responsible for protecting
- 49:47Speaker 22: the guy with the ball, and so yep, there were
- 49:50Speaker 22: some instances where he put it on the ground and
- 49:52Speaker 22: there were some instances where you know, the second guy
- 49:54Speaker 22: came in, and we need to eliminate the second guy
- 49:57Speaker 22: from coming in by the way that we play and
- 50:00Speaker 22: our plate demeanor and the way that we finish. So uh,
- 50:03Speaker 22: clean slate. Everybody has has a clean slate. But also
- 50:08Speaker 22: you know, there's things that have to have to change
- 50:10Speaker 22: and you know, be better at every every position as
- 50:14Speaker 22: we move towards the season.
- 50:17Speaker 5: Towards the end of the game.
- 50:18Speaker 23: How much of that was good situational awareness from him
- 50:20Speaker 23: and how much of that maybe could have been a
- 50:21Speaker 23: better decision.
- 50:23Speaker 22: Well, I mean we would need to make you know,
- 50:24Speaker 22: I mean we need to if the if the corner
- 50:26Speaker 22: is flat footed, we probably need to throw it over
- 50:28Speaker 22: his head and live to fight another day. Credit credit
- 50:33Speaker 22: to double A. And I like sometimes when these things
- 50:38Speaker 22: come up, because now we can coach the quarterbacks to
- 50:42Speaker 22: to say, hey, if the guy's not bailing, if you're
- 50:44Speaker 22: just sitting there standing flat footed, and you go over there,
- 50:47Speaker 22: it's a it's a yes no, and you're gonna have
- 50:49Speaker 22: to just decide that. You know, you can't progress back
- 50:52Speaker 22: and come over here to the field, You're going to
- 50:54Speaker 22: get sacked or strip sacked. So throw it over his
- 50:57Speaker 22: head and being able to to catch that ball double
- 51:01Speaker 22: A and end it and then explain to him, you know,
- 51:03Speaker 22: go down, go down, go down.
- 51:04Speaker 1: We have the lead.
- 51:05Speaker 22: And you know, these are all great things that come
- 51:07Speaker 22: up and allow us to coach. And just like the
- 51:12Speaker 22: drive before, you know, we throw one into Kays and
- 51:15Speaker 22: kay Sean does a nice job to get us in
- 51:17Speaker 22: the field goal range. Thomas chose to call time out.
- 51:21Speaker 22: He was the head coach. That was his decision. You know,
- 51:25Speaker 22: I told the team, hey, listen, we have a couple options.
- 51:27Speaker 22: We can now go to the ball. We can clock
- 51:29Speaker 22: the ball and be second down. We can center it
- 51:32Speaker 22: wherever we want to center it. We can slow clock it.
- 51:34Speaker 22: We can you know, take a knee. I can call
- 51:36Speaker 22: time out with three seconds and we kick the winner.
- 51:39Speaker 22: So those are all things that come up, and they
- 51:41Speaker 22: come up organically and allows us to teach it and
- 51:44Speaker 22: coach it. And I know that this happens having done
- 51:47Speaker 22: this for however many years, I can show them, but
- 51:51Speaker 22: until they actually are in that position which they're going
- 51:53Speaker 22: to come up. The more that we do to a minute,
- 51:55Speaker 22: just like today, we're going to have end of game situation.
- 51:57Speaker 22: Ball is going to be on the twenty five yard line,
- 52:00Speaker 22: going to be forty five seconds. You're going to see
- 52:01Speaker 22: what the last plays are from the five yard line
- 52:04Speaker 22: or the ten yard line, because that's just where the
- 52:06Speaker 22: ball is going to be, I would imagine.
- 52:07Speaker 1: So then we can coach those up and see where
- 52:10Speaker 1: it goes. Sorry, it's a long.
- 52:12Speaker 22: Winded answer, but there's a lot of different situations that
- 52:16Speaker 22: come up just by repping it, and I can show them,
- 52:20Speaker 22: but then they actually there in it. I said, Okay,
- 52:22Speaker 22: now we can coach from from our example come.
- 52:25Speaker 1: This preseason, gave what's your plan with the quarterback rotation?
- 52:28Speaker 1: And my outtra It's Monday.
- 52:29Speaker 22: We're focusing on the red zone, focusing on being real
- 52:33Speaker 22: precise down there, not going backwards, not hurting ourselves defense,
- 52:37Speaker 22: you know, defending every blade of grass, making sure that
- 52:40Speaker 22: we undercut when receivers, all the details for the red
- 52:43Speaker 22: zone that are going to hopefully help us in a season.
- 52:45Speaker 22: That's what my focus is, getting back to fundamentals.
- 52:48Speaker 1: Uh.
- 52:49Speaker 22: And then you know, when Friday comes around, I'll try
- 52:51Speaker 22: to do my best to let everybody know.
- 52:54Speaker 23: You said that when you look forward to the first
- 52:56Speaker 23: full padded practice to identify some of those guys and
- 52:59Speaker 23: you cut your eye and what have you Now that
- 53:02Speaker 23: you've seen some of those players, what do you want
- 53:03Speaker 23: from them now here on out?
- 53:06Speaker 1: Well, I mean, I think continued growth.
- 53:08Speaker 22: You know, we're still in training camp, and so the
- 53:11Speaker 22: ones that have continued to show improvement and that have
- 53:14Speaker 22: maybe earned some more reps, you know, continuing to do
- 53:20Speaker 22: those types of things and to continue to take the
- 53:22Speaker 22: next step to continue to compete.
- 53:24Speaker 1: For a role.
- 53:25Speaker 22: And then the ones, you know, have an opportunity to
- 53:29Speaker 22: to try to get going if you know, maybe they
- 53:31Speaker 22: haven't you know, put their best work out there.
- 53:36Speaker 1: I don't defer to these guys. Just step in there.
- 53:39Speaker 21: Cornley the field early on Friday on just you have
- 53:41Speaker 21: the update on kind of what happened.
- 53:43Speaker 22: The update was just kind of got rolled up, and
- 53:46Speaker 22: he won't be out here. I wouldn't anticipate him this week,
- 53:50Speaker 22: So he'll be working hard to get back, just like
- 53:53Speaker 22: everybody else.
- 53:54Speaker 1: That's not going to be out there.
- 53:58Speaker 22: Other than that, I wouldn't expect them here at practice today,
- 54:01Speaker 22: and uh, you know, probably not against Washington on Wednesday.
- 54:05Speaker 5: Like we've seen the two kickers kick on alternating days,
- 54:08Speaker 5: we've seen to kick on the same days of living
- 54:10Speaker 5: in the stadium.
- 54:10Speaker 2: What are your impressions thus well.
- 54:12Speaker 22: They both have done very well, and I mean, I'm
- 54:15Speaker 22: sure nineteen to twenty one or whatever they both are,
- 54:18Speaker 22: and I think they've gotten better and it's a good
- 54:20Speaker 22: competition and I'm glad that they both got to kick
- 54:23Speaker 22: into the stadium and try to get the extra points
- 54:25Speaker 22: and get the end of game kicks.
- 54:27Speaker 1: And everything that we did.
- 54:29Speaker 22: So you know, just try to get the volume and
- 54:33Speaker 22: try to you know, every day Jeremy and Tom have
- 54:35Speaker 22: a have a plan for them on how they're going
- 54:37Speaker 22: to kick.
- 54:38Speaker 2: You see from the kickoff, because we've talked about that.
- 54:41Speaker 22: Yeah, I think I think they're working through what that
- 54:45Speaker 22: looks like.
- 54:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 54:46Speaker 22: You have a couple of different choices if you you know,
- 54:48Speaker 22: want to try to put it up there high and
- 54:50Speaker 22: try to get it as close to the goal line,
- 54:52Speaker 22: but don't get cute, right, you can't have the ball
- 54:55Speaker 22: to the thirty five yard line. And then also some
- 54:58Speaker 22: of these you know, whether they're the low liner, whatever
- 55:02Speaker 22: that may be. I think that's where you talk about
- 55:06Speaker 22: practice and we'll have to figure out what's best for
- 55:09Speaker 22: us and you know, decide on something.
- 55:11Speaker 4: Like understanding everyone's got a long way to go here
- 55:14Speaker 4: in camp?
- 55:14Speaker 1: Are there any positions you feel like you need to
- 55:16Speaker 1: learn more about every single morning?
- 55:18Speaker 22: I want to continue to learn about our players, about
- 55:21Speaker 22: those positions, about the combinations, and that that's what training
- 55:26Speaker 22: camps for is, you know, really just to.
- 55:30Speaker 1: Yeah, get get get the players.
- 55:32Speaker 22: In there that can continue to to to improve and
- 55:36Speaker 22: to compete and go from transitioning against our offense to
- 55:40Speaker 22: quickly adjusting to what Washington is going to do on Wednesday.
- 55:44Speaker 5: I know we haven't seen much of Matt Collins on
- 55:46Speaker 5: the field so far, but what have you seen from
- 55:48Speaker 5: him off the field?
- 55:49Speaker 1: Helping out some younger guys.
- 55:50Speaker 22: Spend a lot of time here in the off season
- 55:52Speaker 22: locked in, engaged. Rare for a player to be able
- 55:57Speaker 22: to get that much information and not practice that is
- 56:02Speaker 22: that's hard.
- 56:02Speaker 1: That's hard, just.
- 56:04Speaker 22: Even thinking back when I was in those opportunities to
- 56:09Speaker 22: be able to do that and still understand the details
- 56:14Speaker 22: and not practicing it. So locked in, ready to go,
- 56:17Speaker 22: excited to see him get out there and practice.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Sorry, go ahead, and now great moments in.
- 56:27Speaker 12: History to make the trade happen, but they got an
- 56:30Speaker 12: All Star.
- 56:30Speaker 2: When is the trade hitline?
- 56:31Speaker 8: By the way, July end of July?
- 56:33Speaker 5: And I just don't know why trading for.
- 56:36Speaker 2: A month and a half. It's a month and a
- 56:39Speaker 2: half from now.
- 56:40Speaker 5: You don't know how calendars work. It's less than a
- 56:42Speaker 5: month away the trade deadlines. He said, end of July.
- 56:45Speaker 5: Usually it's the middle of July, but it's the end
- 56:48Speaker 5: of June. Now, it's like.
- 56:53Speaker 1: That's the middle of middle of June.
- 56:55Speaker 5: So it's less than a month away.
- 56:56Speaker 2: I said a month and a half because he said
- 56:59Speaker 2: it was the end of July.
- 57:00Speaker 5: You know, so the thirty first is a month and
- 57:04Speaker 5: a half. Okay, Okay, you're right, it's happen and a half.
- 57:09Speaker 5: Why do you have to wait till you're right? I said,
- 57:11Speaker 5: it's a long time. I said, you're right. No, it's
- 57:13Speaker 5: not a long time.
- 57:14Speaker 2: It is.
- 57:15Speaker 1: That's another great moment.
- 57:19Speaker 2: All right back here on Patriots Unfiltered eight five five
- 57:21Speaker 2: Pats five hundred is the hotline podcast at Patriots dot com.
- 57:26Speaker 2: Is the email address uh ted in Las Vegas, right,
- 57:29Speaker 2: sin uh. He has a question about the preseason games.
- 57:32Speaker 2: He wants us to clarify whether or not he can
- 57:35Speaker 2: listen to preseason radio broadcasts in Las Vegas. Before last week, Scrimmaged,
- 57:41Speaker 2: the Patriots website said the radio broadcast was available on
- 57:43Speaker 2: a computer throughout the US, but I couldn't find a
- 57:45Speaker 2: link to get it. Today's website applies. Friday's radio broadcast
- 57:50Speaker 2: is only available in New England.
- 57:51Speaker 1: That is correct.
- 57:53Speaker 2: You can only get the preseason game in the States
- 57:56Speaker 2: in New England. So what I would suggest is move
- 58:01Speaker 2: to Germany or Brazil because you'll be able to listen
- 58:04Speaker 2: to it live. Because Germany and home countries.
- 58:07Speaker 4: Yeah, quit to move for you can.
- 58:10Speaker 2: Come to New England. Yeah, but unfortunately, per league rules,
- 58:13Speaker 2: we can't broadcast audio or the game itself outside of
- 58:17Speaker 2: New England because it's not our market. I think it's dumb.
- 58:23Speaker 2: It's like, really, we're protecting preseason, you know.
- 58:28Speaker 8: Be able to listen to the team you want to
- 58:29Speaker 8: listen to.
- 58:31Speaker 2: I agree, I agree, So I think they'll get there eventually,
- 58:37Speaker 2: but yes, for now, only in New England can you
- 58:41Speaker 2: listen to the game.
- 58:43Speaker 4: I drove up the Pasadena wants to watch a Patriots
- 58:45Speaker 4: preseason game. That's how desperate I was some game.
- 58:50Speaker 5: Why would it be in Pasadena and not where you.
- 58:52Speaker 3: Were went to like a Patriots bar, Like it wasn't
- 58:54Speaker 3: streaming anywhere other than like a bar where a club that's.
- 58:59Speaker 2: The big one San Diego, the Sonny mcclains, that's in LA.
- 59:03Speaker 4: Yeah, that's well, there's.
- 59:03Speaker 6: Two of them.
- 59:04Speaker 8: Yeah, I was there. Yeah, I know that.
- 59:06Speaker 4: I've only been sure.
- 59:09Speaker 5: I always thought that was an l A thing.
- 59:10Speaker 2: It is, it is, it is in La.
- 59:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I've been to those that it's only characters.
- 59:15Speaker 12: Yeah, it was only not even because you know, it
- 59:17Speaker 12: was working. But I was only able to go like
- 59:19Speaker 12: once or twice. But it was fun when I did get.
- 59:21Speaker 4: It's so fun. I mean, like it's like nine am.
- 59:23Speaker 3: The line would already be out the door, and you know,
- 59:25Speaker 3: usually i'd sit down and be like nine forty five
- 59:27Speaker 3: and everybody's settling in til you.
- 59:29Speaker 4: Know, like I'm not gonna drink yet, And then by
- 59:31Speaker 4: like nine fifty five, I was like, well.
- 59:34Speaker 6: That.
- 59:35Speaker 3: But I love that timeframe though, because then you know
- 59:37Speaker 3: one o'clock one thirty, the first games are over.
- 59:39Speaker 4: You you know, you have the rest of the day
- 59:40Speaker 4: to do what you need to do.
- 59:41Speaker 12: It's not great when you were working and you have
- 59:43Speaker 12: to be there at six am. Call time does not ideal,
- 59:46Speaker 12: But woe is me?
- 59:49Speaker 2: Uh Joel and Ottawa. I really think the first step
- 59:51Speaker 2: and having some sort of developmental program for NFL players
- 59:53Speaker 2: would be expand the practice roster, double it and allow
- 59:56Speaker 2: each team to develop their own players in their system.
- 59:59Speaker 8: I'm not sure there's enough to double it.
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: There's sixteen guys on them.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: Is it controversial to just say there should just be
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: one league where the best of the best play and
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: either get into that league and you play good in
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: that league, or you.
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: Know, I don't think that's controversial.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: Seventeen different developmental leagues, just in case one random guy
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: might come through and help your team in ten years.
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: I don't know. We were kind of talking about this
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: soft air. Maybe we shouldn't do this on air, but
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: every year we do, like the roster Raydownson. Every year
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: we're like, I don't know, like, did they have fifty
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: three got Like, I don't think it's that hard. Don't
- 1:00:37Speaker 5: I think that they're looking for talent? Yeah, I don't.
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: I think there's a shortage of you know, I think
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: you could chop off the bottom five guys of every
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: roster and just change them and teams would be completely
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: and totally unaffected.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: But isn't that the point of developmental league? Like some
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: guys are later.
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: On there's not enough guys there had my point.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: There has to be a place for these guys to develop.
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I just don't think there's enough talent.
- 1:01:00Speaker 12: I think the way I look at it is like
- 1:01:01Speaker 12: more less like if we had thirty two players on
- 1:01:06Speaker 12: a practice squad and more like let's say, uh, I
- 1:01:10Speaker 12: just use him as an example, like Kiden Wallace.
- 1:01:13Speaker 8: Let's say Kiden Wallace.
- 1:01:14Speaker 12: Is just going to ride the bench just here and
- 1:01:16Speaker 12: he's not going to get any game opportunities whatsoever. But
- 1:01:19Speaker 12: that's a former third round pick that has some upside.
- 1:01:22Speaker 12: It has some potential if he was able to work
- 1:01:25Speaker 12: on his craft in a spring league and then hit
- 1:01:28Speaker 12: the ground running in a training camp setting, you know,
- 1:01:30Speaker 12: come into the could someone.
- 1:01:31Speaker 8: Like that emerge?
- 1:01:32Speaker 12: Not could a UDFA that's the second, you know, eighteenth
- 1:01:36Speaker 12: guy on the practice squad emerge. We're talking about like
- 1:01:39Speaker 12: the guys fifty through fifty three on an NFL roster,
- 1:01:42Speaker 12: maybe like somewhere in that range.
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: Okay, uh Jordan and Marilyn writes in and wanted to
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: open up the door for an around the NFL conversation.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: I know you guys keep your eyes around the league.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: So what's something you've heard from other camps around the
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: NFL that has your interest piqued me? Personally, I have
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: three quick ones. Shador Sanders is fourth string on the Browns,
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: Caleb Williams frustration and drills, and Amika Ibuka lighting it
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: up in training camp, which I know my phrasing will
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: upset Paul. The Caleb Williams one that does intrigue me.
- 1:02:16Speaker 5: I've heard nothing about any of that except for that
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: Shad Door Sanders. I saw a tweet he said that
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: he was fourth on the hurt shoulder. Shoulder. I never
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: heard anything.
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: About the Bears offense. Even the new head coach has
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: come out and said, we don't look good.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: I've seen some bad clips from their training camp which
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: could just be selectively brought in, and I'm sure you
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: could find some of those kind of plays with Patriots
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: camp too, but there have been a couple and I
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: don't know if there's something going on there. And I'm
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: just curious because Ben Johnson, I really liked him through
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: the initial process when he was hired, and you know,
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: it just seemed like he really had a focus. But
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: now I'm kind of thinking, like, this guy seems pretty
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: hard ass, and maybe this isn't going to be quite
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: as smooth as as he anticipated. Because think they've made
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: some great was in the off season. I mean, they
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: really did a great job on their offensive line. I
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: mean they're stacked at receiver. I mean, they've done everything
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: you could ask. They hired the hot new offensive coordinator
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: that everyone's but I saw one where they were trying
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: to pull like a double pass off and.
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: It just looks like so clunky.
- 1:03:21Speaker 12: I think the thing that I find interesting with Caleb
- 1:03:23Speaker 12: is that, like, this is an offense with Ben Johnson
- 1:03:27Speaker 12: where you need to color inside the lines, and he's
- 1:03:29Speaker 12: a quarterback that wants to color outside the lines, And like,
- 1:03:32Speaker 12: how do they find that? Like you could not find
- 1:03:35Speaker 12: a quarterback more different than Jared Goff than Caleb Williams.
- 1:03:38Speaker 12: Like that is they are total polar opposites of one another.
- 1:03:43Speaker 12: So how do they run the system that he was
- 1:03:45Speaker 12: running in Detroit or the quarterback that who inherently wants
- 1:03:49Speaker 12: to improvise, you know, Like so it's just kind of
- 1:03:52Speaker 12: like a weird in that a little.
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: Bit of eccentric personalities too, with Caleb James and Ben Johnson.
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: Is just a little different weird.
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: I'm not sure I would agree with with that, Mike.
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: I would also just ask and I literally have not
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: seen any of it. I don't like envelope. It just
- 1:04:06Speaker 5: comes across the NFL network, does not go on my
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: TV at this time of year.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: Because I was becoming more like Eric.
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: No, I don't know, I'm like I'm right now, it's
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: just all about the Patriots training camp today. I don't
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: really care like training camp central nonsense. I just skip
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: right over that, gloss right over that. But I would
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: be curious with Caleb Williams. Is it he's not picking
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: up the offense and he's physically not playing well, he's
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: been inaccurate or does he have the other things which
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: I would be far more concerned about, where his reputation
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: of not being a great teammate, not being a great leader,
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: those things rearing their head. Okay, that's what I would
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: be worried about. Picking up a new system. To me,
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: that's he has the ability. Oh yeah, but there's questions
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: about his makeup and if this is related to that,
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: I'd be far more concerned if I were a Chicago fan.
- 1:04:55Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 1:04:56Speaker 12: Based off the this press commence is probably like a
- 1:04:59Speaker 12: week or ten days old at this point that Fred
- 1:05:01Speaker 12: was talking about with Ben Johnson. But Ben Johnson admittedly
- 1:05:05Speaker 12: said that he was playing slow, like his processing speed was,
- 1:05:08Speaker 12: you know, was too slow and you know, just kind
- 1:05:12Speaker 12: of trying to figure out the offense. The other one
- 1:05:14Speaker 12: that I have heard the last couple of days, and
- 1:05:17Speaker 12: because we loved the demise of the New York Jets,
- 1:05:19Speaker 12: it just this just really I enjoyed this in every way,
- 1:05:22Speaker 12: shape or form, apparently Justin Fields is having an awful
- 1:05:25Speaker 12: training camp and is like three days in a row. Now,
- 1:05:29Speaker 12: I mean, look, practice stats are practice dats. Take them
- 1:05:31Speaker 12: for what they're worth. But obviously what they're reporting in
- 1:05:35Speaker 12: New York is not very good with Justin Fields.
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: So what do we hear about Aaron Rodgers?
- 1:05:40Speaker 8: Not much.
- 1:05:41Speaker 12: I haven't heard a ton of either way with him,
- 1:05:44Speaker 12: you know. I think that from what I've seen, it's
- 1:05:48Speaker 12: like pretty similar to what he looked like last year
- 1:05:50Speaker 12: with the Jets, but not anything totally definitive. But I
- 1:05:54Speaker 12: definitely have heard the Caleb stuff, and I've heard that
- 1:05:56Speaker 12: Justin Fields has been a train wreck in New York.
- 1:05:58Speaker 8: Those two things.
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: We'll get the bills on Hard Knocks tonight, first episode,
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: So a little peak behind the scenes with the.
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: Buffalo bills, you know.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: Okay, Drew's in Connecticut. Hey, Drew, you got.
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: Something I did hear about James Cook.
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: That's a problem.
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: I saw that in the news, that about his hold
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: in not practicing on all right, go ahead, Drew.
- 1:06:18Speaker 14: Andrew, I just had two quick questions I wanted to
- 1:06:23Speaker 14: ask you guys about. I was curious, like how the
- 1:06:26Speaker 14: safety position is kind of panting out I know we
- 1:06:28Speaker 14: have like the box sacies with Dugger and Peppers, and
- 1:06:32Speaker 14: I know they're trying to figure out what the deep
- 1:06:33Speaker 14: safety to play the field, and I'm kind of wondering
- 1:06:36Speaker 14: what your guys just take on. Who's like kind of
- 1:06:38Speaker 14: leading that, like out of the players we have with
- 1:06:41Speaker 14: talking in the Muslim like, who's kind of standing out
- 1:06:43Speaker 14: is going to be the lead deep safety? And I
- 1:06:46Speaker 14: also want to ask you guys, how do you guys
- 1:06:48Speaker 14: see like fins room this camp and where does he
- 1:06:51Speaker 14: kind of ranked with the receiver group team tight Like
- 1:06:54Speaker 14: do you see him making the roster maybe or is
- 1:06:56Speaker 14: it like pulking Baker in front?
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: M all right, thanks Drew.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: Safety safety, I mean Dugger and Peppers and Jalen Hawkins
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: is the third guy that's generally speaking. There has been
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: some rotation, opportunities for Craig Woodson to get in there,
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: a little bit opportunities for Marcosteps to get in there.
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: But at this point I would say those are the
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: three guys and that's how it's it's gonna kind of work.
- 1:07:19Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:07:19Speaker 12: I continue to wonder with the safeties, is there a
- 1:07:23Speaker 12: world where Dugger and Peppers aren't always on the field
- 1:07:27Speaker 12: together and in some of their three nickel corner you know,
- 1:07:31Speaker 12: three corner nickel maybe even dime packages. Is there two
- 1:07:36Speaker 12: safeties and they're kind of more complimentary than those two
- 1:07:39Speaker 12: are to one another, And like is that Hawkins? Is
- 1:07:43Speaker 12: that Craig Woodson. I think they are experimenting with that
- 1:07:46Speaker 12: of seeing are we really at our best with two
- 1:07:50Speaker 12: box safety body types on the field at once, or
- 1:07:53Speaker 12: if we had a truth strong and free is that
- 1:07:56Speaker 12: are we a little bit more off.
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: And reading between them lines?
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: I would say I think they like Pepper's better as
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: that sub linebacker position playing close to the to the
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: line of scrimmage.
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: So I know Gregor Bernard has said some things about
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: Kyle Duger.
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: Maybe you know, potentially losing some of his size of
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: his role.
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: I haven't really seen that yet.
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: To me, it just seems like they're still searching and
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: trying to give younger guys some opportunities. But something to
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: watch for sure.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: John writes in he wants to know if we have
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: any updates on Terrell Williams how he's doing.
- 1:08:26Speaker 12: Yeah, he was back at practice today. He was sitting
- 1:08:30Speaker 12: on a look like a trash can or something like
- 1:08:33Speaker 12: that that they had him sitting on but he was
- 1:08:35Speaker 12: back at practice today, so that's that's a good sign.
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I think like if he has to go around
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: in a scooter, let him go around as a scooter, Like
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: there's no reason for him to be pushing it. You know.
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: I'd like to hear from him when we talked to
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: him once after they put together that press conference over
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: Zoom when he wasn't around the team, But we haven't
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: spoken to him in person yet.
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: Be interesting to see.
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: I assume that's going to happen the next couple next
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: week or so, but see where he's at, what he's
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: got to say, how he's feeling.
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: And you know, hear all the team talk.
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: A lot about him and getting guys fired up, and
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: it sounds like he has that defensive edge to him.
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: I'm just like to kind of get a sense of
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: what that's like a little bit.
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: We haven't been around him much.
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: Jeff and Canada. Before training camp, I'd say the consensus
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: of all the hosts was eight or nine wins was
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: a plausible season. Now you've watched two weeks of practice
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: in person, so I'm wondering if any of you are
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: now doubting your earlier thoughts or maybe you're even more
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: confident from my perspective only hearing your descriptions because I
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: can't handle Paul's shows what what you're saying sounds early
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: similar to the last five training camps really well, I.
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: Would push back on that. Yeah, I think we all
- 1:09:45Speaker 5: feel it's been better, and I think we've said that. Yeah,
- 1:09:50Speaker 5: I think it hasn't been great, but it's been better
- 1:09:53Speaker 5: than what we've seen.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: Right, it's been competitive, you know, it's been competitive back
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: and forth with both sides. I just I'd love to
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: see more consistency out of the offense. I evn't talked
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: about last year, where we felt like defense was always
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: winning and you probably made you get a little too
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: high on the defense and maybe not low enough on
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: the offense.
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: But this year, I feel both sides have had their moments.
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: But again, my biggest question is about Drake and crunch
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: time been saying that all offseason and in the limited
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: that we've seen him, we haven't really seen much yet
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: from him, and that i'd say, I'm.
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: A little bit a little bit discouraged about the offensive
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: line right now.
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: I would agree, you know, I just I just wish
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: there was a couple more spots where I felt really
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: good and stable. I know there are going to be
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: some questions, but I have I have real questions about
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: that because that ties directly into Drake It at crunch
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: time and Max Crosby's coming on that field week one,
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: and that's going to be quite the interesting matchup, especially
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: if you've got two, maybe three rookies playing significant roles
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: along the offensive line.
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: It's a lot to handle.
- 1:10:55Speaker 12: Yeah, this was right. What grinded my gears a little bit.
- 1:10:59Speaker 12: It wasn't so just now the two rookies thing, Uh,
- 1:11:05Speaker 12: why are we painting that as such a negative thing?
- 1:11:08Speaker 12: Like why, oh, two rookies, Like that's gonna I look
- 1:11:12Speaker 12: at that as an overwhelming positive, Like they have two
- 1:11:14Speaker 12: rookies that look like they can play and are significantly
- 1:11:19Speaker 12: better than the guys that they're replacing, and yet we're
- 1:11:23Speaker 12: painting that as some sort of problem. Like I just
- 1:11:26Speaker 12: I guess I'm just like confused as to because that
- 1:11:29Speaker 12: question has been asked at press conferences, It's been talked
- 1:11:31Speaker 12: a lot about Paul's shows.
- 1:11:33Speaker 8: Oh that's asking a lot out of two rookies.
- 1:11:35Speaker 12: I was on the Morning Show the other day and
- 1:11:37Speaker 12: that was the when I brought them that up.
- 1:11:39Speaker 8: That was the knee jerk reaction to it was rookies.
- 1:11:44Speaker 12: Yeah, Whereas I look at it and say, they're elevating
- 1:11:48Speaker 12: the talent. Like the talent, these guys are better than
- 1:11:51Speaker 12: the guys that they were replacing.
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: Well, are they gonna have their bumps this year? Yeah?
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: But to me, if these are the two guys that
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: for the next number of years are going to be
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: the left side of your line, you know, let's get
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: through the bumps and develop these guys.
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: I mean, not the only point, and I agree generally.
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: I just I look at it specifically to week one,
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: when you have two rookies starting going against the best
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: pass rusher in the league.
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: I I agree with the general point of Evan. It's
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: just you know, we all stress how important a good
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: start is this year.
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: Would you rather have a strange at left guard?
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: No, but I think it's going to be a challenge
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: for anybody, and having a good September is pretty important
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: to this team. They have got an advantage of having
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: some home games that they want to take advantage of.
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: And you know, one or two plays where Max Crosby
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: does what Max Crosby does, regardless of who it is.
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: Yeah, it could. It could change.
- 1:12:37Speaker 18: The Max Crosby's in the world are going to get
- 1:12:40Speaker 18: their point though, If you have the opportunity to have
- 1:12:44Speaker 18: two guys, you know, be mainstays for your offensive line,
- 1:12:47Speaker 18: I'd rather get it started earlier.
- 1:12:50Speaker 5: I'm not as convinced about you know, you would mention
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: you were a little disappointed in the offensive line. I
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: would agree. I've been a little disappointed so far. Doesn't
- 1:12:58Speaker 5: mean I'm going to be disappointed in October. And I
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: do feel Jared Wilson and Will Campbell are the best
- 1:13:06Speaker 5: options they have. We'll find out if those are good
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: enough options, but they are the best options they have.
- 1:13:12Speaker 5: I don't think there's much of an argument against that.
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean i'd tie it too to just I
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: think when Morgan Moses was signed and we had him
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: in here and it was like stability, and it has
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: I'm just you know, it's been in and out in
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: But I'm more disappointed or more concerned about that than
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: i am about the left side.
- 1:13:29Speaker 5: Yeah, because I'm disappointed about it all. It hasn't been great.
- 1:13:32Speaker 12: The left side is two rookies with a ton of
- 1:13:35Speaker 12: upside and talent that, yeah, to Fred's point, are going
- 1:13:38Speaker 12: to take on some you know, take their bumps and
- 1:13:41Speaker 12: bruises along the way here, But you're building towards something.
- 1:13:44Speaker 8: You're building towards those two guys.
- 1:13:46Speaker 5: I like Fred's point being.
- 1:13:48Speaker 12: Together for a while on that left side. Jared Wilson's
- 1:13:51Speaker 12: future might be at center in the long term, but regardless,
- 1:13:55Speaker 12: like he's going to be in in your five, and
- 1:13:58Speaker 12: so is Will Campbell. And for a team that had
- 1:14:01Speaker 12: the worst offensive line in football last year by every margin,
- 1:14:06Speaker 12: isn't it a good thing to be elevating the talent
- 1:14:10Speaker 12: of that room and having but they have we'll see,
- 1:14:15Speaker 12: I'm ready to say that they have Like this is
- 1:14:18Speaker 12: defensive point is like you're going to have to go
- 1:14:20Speaker 12: through these bumps and bruises to find out.
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: I think you might very well be talking this time
- 1:14:25Speaker 5: next year of those two guys moving over to the
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: right one spot. When the head coach talks about the
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: tackles versatility, okay.
- 1:14:33Speaker 12: But or head a little or we could like actually
- 1:14:35Speaker 12: realize what he's talking about When he says versatility, he's
- 1:14:38Speaker 12: talking about versatility in terms of the different blocks that
- 1:14:41Speaker 12: he can make.
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: So like it's one way I looked at it. That's
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: one one thing I brought up to Mike when we
- 1:14:45Speaker 5: were talking about today. I said, you can look at
- 1:14:47Speaker 5: that a number of different ways. You've decided what way
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: it is. I I don't know what he was, no one,
- 1:14:53Speaker 5: no one else, So I don't know what he was
- 1:14:54Speaker 5: talking about.
- 1:14:55Speaker 12: That's fair, but I have and I'm not like trying
- 1:14:57Speaker 12: to come at you, but like I had, Barth got asked.
- 1:15:00Speaker 12: Bart asked us the very first question out of the
- 1:15:02Speaker 12: shoot yesterday. We were joking about it when he did
- 1:15:04Speaker 12: his hit on Felger and Maz was Felger making this
- 1:15:07Speaker 12: out to be that the versatility was about Will Campbell
- 1:15:10Speaker 12: being able to play guard right and as versative positional versatility.
- 1:15:14Speaker 12: I took it in the moment as versatility, as in,
- 1:15:18Speaker 12: he can make a number of different blocks right, he
- 1:15:20Speaker 12: can down block, he can kick out, he can pull,
- 1:15:23Speaker 12: he can reach up to the second level, like those
- 1:15:26Speaker 12: different types of things.
- 1:15:26Speaker 5: Can you pass protect?
- 1:15:28Speaker 8: I don't know, we'll find out, but that's the.
- 1:15:30Speaker 5: Only thing that matters to me about a left tackle.
- 1:15:33Speaker 5: You can give all those other stuff, that's great. If
- 1:15:35Speaker 5: he can't pass protect, he's going to be a guide.
- 1:15:37Speaker 12: I'm just saying that I would much rather this than
- 1:15:42Speaker 12: what they had last year, and he too, And my
- 1:15:44Speaker 12: bigger concerns with this offensive line are actually about the
- 1:15:48Speaker 12: veterans on the offensive line, because the two young kids
- 1:15:50Speaker 12: are gonna they're gonna have their ebbs and flows, but
- 1:15:53Speaker 12: at least we're going somewhere with those two. Let's see,
- 1:15:56Speaker 12: you know, brad Berry, Morgan Moses, like, those guys have
- 1:16:00Speaker 12: got to prove it to me more than the rookies
- 1:16:02Speaker 12: at this point.
- 1:16:03Speaker 5: Yeah, fran I like you'll point the best.
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: Well, you know, I'll argue against myself. The only thing
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: you could argue against me is Okay, Will Campbell and
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: Jared Wilson are your best bets at left on the
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: left side. But who are they replacing?
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: Yeah, so low against that, The bar was so low.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: If they didn't replace them, my god, the sky would
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: be falling. So yes, I I Wilson's you know a
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: surprise that he's come on so quickly, so well. But
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: if Will Campbell wasn't the left guard tackle from day
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: one like that would be a shock to me because
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: he had no competition. For one, There's no competition for him,
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: and what very.
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: Little competition they had was on the pup list, yea,
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: but even then, I don't think that there was much
- 1:16:52Speaker 5: of a competition.
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: He's not he's not he's not.
- 1:16:54Speaker 5: In my view, he's not really a competition, I agree with. Yeah.
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: Now, the thing, like so Campbell, I expected to see
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: what I'm seeing Wilson, I think is the encouraging thing
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: is that he has impressed everyone so quickly, not just
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: in his physical ability but his mental ability to pick
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: things up, which lends to you know what Evan's saying.
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: He'll probably end up at center eventually, but right now,
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: if you're looking for your top five, you know, you
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: got to fit him in somewhere, and so Guard is
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: probably where he's going to start and then maybe eventually
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: take over for Bradbury.
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: But no, he's one of the brightest.
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: He's one of the brightest storylines along that offensive line
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: that we've had since Michael, when you came in and
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: instantly started to get it, and.
- 1:17:40Speaker 4: There hasn't really been a lot of that. Well, Campbell's
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: the unique thing. He's the fourth overall pick. Now, that's
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: to me the best.
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: If Cole Strange could all of a sudden like just
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: get it. Yeah, you know, I get he was definitely overdrafted.
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: He wasn't a first round talent. But if he could
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: just you know, do what Belichick thought he would be
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: to do and and be a good guard, and then
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: you move Wilson over to the center. Okay, we'll go
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: and when you and then if we can you know,
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: manage Morgan Moses. That's where you thought this, you know.
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: That's what I was thinking two weeks ago, Fred, and
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: I think unfortunately what we've seen is that ship I
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: think is sailing pretty quick with Strange, who's hanging on.
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: By a thread right now.
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: But I do wonder when this all kind of started
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: to happen that it never really was Wilson, you know,
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: probably to Evans point that he's hit a lot of
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: how much is on the plate of the center, that
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: they felt like brad Berry at center and Wilson at
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: left guard is better than now Wilson at center and
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: Strange left for now.
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: Right, because you don't want to put too much on them.
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: So but but I think we probably all agreed there's
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: probably a decent sized chance that he going to play
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: center this year. At some point that injuries or performance
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: are going to change, and they're going to say he's
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: played some games, it's not going.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: To be ideal. It's who plays left guard? Now, you know,
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: maybe it's.
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: Maybe it is cool strange.
- 1:19:01Speaker 12: I just feel like we're you know, if Will Campbell
- 1:19:06Speaker 12: and I know people have mixed reviews about Will Campbell
- 1:19:09Speaker 12: and you can everyone can have their their take on that.
- 1:19:11Speaker 12: But if Will Campbell and Jared Wilson were moving in
- 1:19:14Speaker 12: the other direction, as in a negative direction, that this
- 1:19:17Speaker 12: wasn't working out and they whiffed again on two offensive
- 1:19:21Speaker 12: linemen in the draft, like that would be a huge
- 1:19:24Speaker 12: talking point. Now we've put it in the spin cycle
- 1:19:28Speaker 12: where now all of a sudden, having inexperience as the
- 1:19:30Speaker 12: talking point, and it's like to me that finding these
- 1:19:33Speaker 12: linemen in the draft is a huge positive.
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: Well, it's at least I'm just going to take the
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: bold stance and waiting to see him play.
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: I know, but at least at this point in camp,
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: we're not saying nobody's doing well, so we might as
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: well play the young guys. But like, the young guys
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: are obviously better than the older guys.
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: But I don't think there's any argument. I don't think
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: you can argue with when they're going up.
- 1:19:53Speaker 8: Against Milton Williams and Christian Barmore, like when Jared Wilson.
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: I've seen some days where they look like they're non competitive.
- 1:19:59Speaker 5: I've seen some days where they look good.
- 1:20:00Speaker 8: Okay, I've seen both.
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: I think Fred's comments at the beginning of practice today
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: about a chase on to me is accurate.
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: He's had some good rep.
- 1:20:11Speaker 5: More often than not those guys on the edge of
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: given Will Campbell fits. So some days I like what
- 1:20:18Speaker 5: I see, some days I don't. I'm gonna wait to
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: see what happens over the balance of the season before
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: I just declare victory. That's all.
- 1:20:26Speaker 8: I just like these guys here, and that will be.
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: Tomorrow's practice, I know. But we're just gonna wait.
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: And we got a very very good inducation last year
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: from the joints.
- 1:20:35Speaker 5: I'm not expecting that. I'm not expecting a train wreck
- 1:20:39Speaker 5: like we saw last year because I don't think Washington
- 1:20:41Speaker 5: is anywhere near as talent as Philadelphia.
- 1:20:44Speaker 12: I have a lot of reservations about the offensive line too,
- 1:20:47Speaker 12: so I'm not I'm just coming at it from the
- 1:20:48Speaker 12: point of like I've like I I've seen a lot
- 1:20:52Speaker 12: of young linemen come through here over the last handful
- 1:20:55Speaker 12: of years that have not been able to hold their
- 1:20:58Speaker 12: own in these practices, Like I don't think Colt ever
- 1:21:00Speaker 12: looked the part and at any point, and I think
- 1:21:04Speaker 12: Jared Wilson already looks better than cold Strange.
- 1:21:06Speaker 5: I wouldn't argue with that. So I just that to
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: me is we're moving in the right direction. I think
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: col Strange is a threat away from being like a
- 1:21:14Speaker 5: cut he.
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: Could and I think that, I mean Tavin's point, it's
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: not just about this year too, it's about like taking
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: the long term view. And we talked earlier about some
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: of the positions that maybe they couldn't quite get to
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: or they had contracts that they weren't ready to get
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: out of just yet.
- 1:21:29Speaker 4: So it's about how does it all fit together next
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: year too.
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: I mean, I'm sure that Mike Rabel would tell you
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: I wasn't going to turn this thing over into my
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: team in one year for.
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: Not making the playoffs.
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: For Rabel, it's year one, right, you know, right, And
- 1:21:43Speaker 5: that's where I would say, you know, just let it
- 1:21:46Speaker 5: unfold a little, yeah, Like, don't know, like everything has
- 1:21:48Speaker 5: to be about like the playoffs this year, you know.
- 1:21:51Speaker 5: But back to the way we started this withs like
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: things that grind your gears, like why does everybody have
- 1:21:56Speaker 5: to say, like, well, they have to do this and
- 1:21:58Speaker 5: they have to do that, you know, and they need
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: to be like I heard my guy yesterday, like they
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: need to It's year two of Drake May and Mike
- 1:22:04Speaker 5: and Tony, Like, you have to have this level of
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: an offense. You have to be winning nine or ten
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: get like, no, you don't. You have to be improved, right,
- 1:22:11Speaker 5: show signs of improvement, be on the right path, be
- 1:22:16Speaker 5: a better team as the season goes on. I don't
- 1:22:19Speaker 5: know what that's gonna translate to, but I'm not gonna
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: just pull the plug on the whole thing if all
- 1:22:23Speaker 5: of a sudden they only win six games or seven
- 1:22:25Speaker 5: games instead of eleven, Right, I'm not just gonna pencil
- 1:22:29Speaker 5: in wins and say, well, damn it, they underachieved if
- 1:22:31Speaker 5: they don't hit it.
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean in Tevin's point too, like there's a
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: lot of excitement for me about what could possibly be
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: with with Campbell and Wilson, but there's also that feeling
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: on the other side with the veterans of like how
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: how many games and snaps.
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: Can we squeeze out? Of Morgan Moses.
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: How many snaps can we squeeze out of Garrett Bradberry
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: that you know.
- 1:22:50Speaker 5: Straps are gonna squeeze out of Carlton Davis.
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: Yeah, well that's that's that's a whole other side of
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: the ball.
- 1:22:56Speaker 3: But at least with those guys, I feel like if
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: we see some downs that they still have enough talent
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: to feel like they're gonna improve. Whereas the right side
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: of the line are we tread and water a little bit?
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: And maybe is that why they're still kind of looking
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: like we still don't have the long term answer at
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: right tackle, no matter how much we like the potential
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: of the left side.
- 1:23:14Speaker 18: Oh, long term, absolutely, that's the case's point the best.
- 1:23:19Speaker 12: Yeah, I guess I'm we're coming full circle here, Like
- 1:23:23Speaker 12: what Paul said about like why does it have to
- 1:23:25Speaker 12: be at this certain level. I just feel like there's
- 1:23:27Speaker 12: this like everybody's in a rush to get this team
- 1:23:30Speaker 12: back into contention.
- 1:23:31Speaker 8: And I get that.
- 1:23:32Speaker 12: I get we all want them to win and be better,
- 1:23:34Speaker 12: like we all want that, but it's gonna take time
- 1:23:37Speaker 12: and it's a process. And the evaluation in my mind
- 1:23:41Speaker 12: of Campbell and Wilson is significantly better than the process
- 1:23:46Speaker 12: of like Cole Strange and Leyden Robinson and some of
- 1:23:48Speaker 12: the other guys that they've drafted over the last couple
- 1:23:51Speaker 12: of years where it was like right out of the gate,
- 1:23:53Speaker 12: it was like, I don't know about this, Like I
- 1:23:55Speaker 12: don't know the Cole Strange first round is not looking
- 1:23:57Speaker 12: like that guy's the first round talent.
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:23:59Speaker 12: I don't have those reservations about these rookies, like we'll
- 1:24:03Speaker 12: see what they look like in real games and all
- 1:24:05Speaker 12: that kind of stuff, and they're going to have their lumps.
- 1:24:07Speaker 12: But like the whole offensive line, like I don't want
- 1:24:09Speaker 12: it to make it sound like I think they're all
- 1:24:11Speaker 12: a sudden going to have the Eagles offensive line like
- 1:24:14Speaker 12: pass protection.
- 1:24:15Speaker 5: If you didn't say that pass.
- 1:24:16Speaker 12: Protection one through five is is a concert All five
- 1:24:19Speaker 12: guys I think have pass protection concerns.
- 1:24:22Speaker 5: And that's basically all I'm saying. You summed up my
- 1:24:25Speaker 5: whole argument right there.
- 1:24:26Speaker 8: Right Like all five of them do run blocking.
- 1:24:28Speaker 12: I actually think they're going to be pretty good at
- 1:24:30Speaker 12: m but really all of them are are coming at
- 1:24:34Speaker 12: it from a pass protection being the weaker part of
- 1:24:37Speaker 12: their games. So it's a question of can they mask it,
- 1:24:40Speaker 12: can they figure.
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: It out, which is so connected to Drake's development and
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: some of those critical moments.
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: Yep, let's get back to the hot line. Eight five
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: to five, pass five hundred. Jerry says he's on the
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: road to Foxborough. What's up, Jerry, Hello, Jerry, Hey.
- 1:24:55Speaker 10: Guys, Yeah, hey lad, First time caller, long time listener.
- 1:25:01Speaker 10: I've been watching these guys for over fifty years. I
- 1:25:06Speaker 10: have seen the ugly, the bad, the good, and kind
- 1:25:10Speaker 10: of back to the ugly, and so I'm kind of
- 1:25:13Speaker 10: heartened that agree, uh whatever, It's going to take a while,
- 1:25:19Speaker 10: and I have the patience to stick with it. But
- 1:25:22Speaker 10: my question twofold one is hopefully when I'm up there,
- 1:25:28Speaker 10: because I'm on my way fulfilling a bucket list, headed
- 1:25:32Speaker 10: headed to Foxborough right now from Virginia to catch a game,
- 1:25:37Speaker 10: uh not real, I mean the preseason, but practice anyway.
- 1:25:41Speaker 10: And so so my thoughts were looking at the group
- 1:25:45Speaker 10: we've got now, having Josh back, I see with Diggs
- 1:25:50Speaker 10: and Douglas kind of a kind of that that middle
- 1:25:54Speaker 10: games wide open now if we just get somebody to
- 1:25:56Speaker 10: push it deep. Uh, and couple that with Trevion Henderson
- 1:26:01Speaker 10: as a James White kind of role hit those wheel routes.
- 1:26:05Speaker 10: I'm I'm pretty darned positive on where we're headed right now,
- 1:26:12Speaker 10: So just kind of your thoughts on that. And then lastly,
- 1:26:15Speaker 10: any chance you guys are going to be hanging around
- 1:26:17Speaker 10: where I can flat palms with y' all because I'd
- 1:26:19Speaker 10: love to meet you guys.
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: Well you go. Are you going to be here tomorrow?
- 1:26:24Speaker 10: Yeah, I'm com Yeah, I'm on the road right.
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: Now to row after the show. We got to do
- 1:26:30Speaker 5: the show first row. Yeah, I'll be in the well,
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: I'll be in the media tent.
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: All right, we'll walk round. But Jerry, thanks for calling
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: for the first time. I appreciate the call.
- 1:26:41Speaker 12: Is his concern in terms of the past other than
- 1:26:43Speaker 12: the past protection that we just talked about. Enough, Yeah,
- 1:26:47Speaker 12: twenty yard plus yards down the field, Like who who's
- 1:26:50Speaker 12: threatening in that area of the field. That's probably why
- 1:26:53Speaker 12: I'm holding out hope for Javon Baker, because he's like
- 1:26:56Speaker 12: one of the few guys on the team that I
- 1:26:57Speaker 12: see that might have the talent, you know, the ability
- 1:27:00Speaker 12: to do that. But to go back to your thing, Fred,
- 1:27:03Speaker 12: like you can only throw the ball within twenty yards
- 1:27:05Speaker 12: of the line of scrimmage, You're gonna be easy to defend.
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't know how any of this is going
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: to work out, But would you say, right now, Drake
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: has more weapons than he did last year.
- 1:27:15Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean even just digs the pontics.
- 1:27:17Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I would say yes, I am.
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: And plus Douglas has looked improved, and Booty looks like
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: he's continued to improve a little bit. And Kyle Williams
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: is a little bit of an unknown at this point.
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: And I would say Diggs and Henderson look like parts
- 1:27:31Speaker 5: of the parts of the passing game that they didn't
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: have last year.
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it just.
- 1:27:34Speaker 12: Would be a bummer, Like he throws such a pretty
- 1:27:36Speaker 12: go ball that like to not have Drake's ability to
- 1:27:40Speaker 12: throw deep as part of the offense, not because of Drake,
- 1:27:42Speaker 12: but because they don't really have anybody.
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: That if guys get opened deep, it'll be by scheme,
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: not just because somebody just is a flat burner and
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: beat their man.
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, yeah, I think there's gonna be you know,
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: throw it up to mac hollins.
- 1:27:56Speaker 4: That's going to be a play. I'm hoping that Booty
- 1:27:58Speaker 4: can can deliver some of.
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: Those it for big things from mccollins.
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: I think He's probably going to play a bigger role
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: than all of us anticipated.
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: When the shredded shirt. Yeah drives quicker, Yeah drives quicker
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: and use it.
- 1:28:10Speaker 8: Yeah, that would annoy me.
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: I mean that that was funny.
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: But I just thought everything he said yesterday about working
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: with the young guys, talking about trading plays, I'll be
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: the quarterback saying the plays between him and Digs, and
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: I didn't really expect Diggs to show as much leadership
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: and just everything that Digs has done.
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: Is that one of the most pleasant surprises of CAMPCI
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: for me fact that from day one he's been out there.
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: For me personally. Absolutely, Yeah.
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: Yeah, but those two guys, I think I think those
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: two guys have really changed the dynamic of that room,
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: at least from what we see.
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: We're not in the room.
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: I can't tell you exactly, but the way that mac
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: Collins continues to work with.
- 1:28:45Speaker 24: Those guys, you get like a six foot twelve year
- 1:28:54Speaker 24: old who throw his gas and he's throwing curve after
- 1:28:56Speaker 24: curve after curve and behind.
- 1:28:58Speaker 8: Spinning it up there, Paul.
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: But between Diggs, who's an NFL superstar, and you know
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: just how it just moves different and has the success
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: to a guy like Mac Collins who's kicked around the
- 1:29:09Speaker 3: league a little bit, who knows what it's like to
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: be on the bubble and try to have to earn
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: a role, and you know, successfully contributed last year to
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: a really good Bills team. Like I just think it's
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: a really good two veterans that they brought in that
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: have helped some of these guys like Javon Baker have.
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: A pretty solid couple of days here.
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: Or you know, we'll see with Polk in a couple
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: of days as he gets on track if he's able
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: to do the same.
- 1:29:30Speaker 4: But I think those guys that both had an impact already.
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: Todd's in North Carolina.
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: Hey Todd, Hey guys.
- 1:29:37Speaker 13: Who was kind of a heated discussion earlier. I'm glad
- 1:29:39Speaker 13: that the things calm down. A couple of Colors statement.
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: Before me, scary time.
- 1:29:43Speaker 13: My question is not from your time covering the team,
- 1:29:46Speaker 13: but some of your time following the team. What year
- 1:29:49Speaker 13: does this feel the most like? For me? It's nineteen
- 1:29:51Speaker 13: ninety seven, Carols.
- 1:29:52Speaker 7: First year.
- 1:29:53Speaker 13: We kind of have a defense there, We got our QB,
- 1:29:56Speaker 13: some weapons, and hopefully Drake takes the next step. I'm
- 1:29:58Speaker 13: not going to say he's blent.
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: So do you think this team reminds you of a
- 1:30:02Speaker 5: team coming off a Super Bowl appearance?
- 1:30:05Speaker 7: Well, yeah, but.
- 1:30:07Speaker 13: They only went ten and six and they got out
- 1:30:10Speaker 13: in the first round. I don't even I don't. I
- 1:30:12Speaker 13: think ten wins is an absolute ceiling for this year,
- 1:30:16Speaker 13: but it's possible, and I kind of like.
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: And ten wins in ninety seven was a disappointment they
- 1:30:23Speaker 5: got They won eleven the previous year and went to
- 1:30:25Speaker 5: the Super Bowl. Letso was in his.
- 1:30:28Speaker 17: Prime and Carol's first year.
- 1:30:30Speaker 5: Let's was a two time pro bowler at that time.
- 1:30:32Speaker 5: Drake May is just trying to sort of get established.
- 1:30:35Speaker 5: I know, I'm going to see nineteen ninety four.
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: I'm going to say, I got I believe in the coach,
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: We've got the quarterback.
- 1:30:41Speaker 4: I feel good about where the defense is headed. I
- 1:30:44Speaker 4: don't know if they have enough overall.
- 1:30:46Speaker 5: Ninety four would be you know, I think I understand
- 1:30:49Speaker 5: your your analogy, Mike.
- 1:30:50Speaker 4: I like I appreciate that, Paul, because that's your year.
- 1:30:52Speaker 5: I like that. I like the analogy, But you got
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: some of the pieces.
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: You don't know how it's gonna all come together.
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: I mean, they were they were a very very good
- 1:30:59Speaker 5: team in ninety six. Everybody knew it. Like it wasn't like,
- 1:31:03Speaker 5: oh if this goes right and that goes right. Everybody
- 1:31:05Speaker 5: knew they were good in ninety six. Everybody knew they
- 1:31:07Speaker 5: were good in ninety seven. Now everybody felt Denver was better,
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: and they were and they got lucky in ninety six
- 1:31:13Speaker 5: that the Broncos got knocked out. And yeah, you know,
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: I mean, even though I'm a Drew guide, I can
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: admit that they would they wouldn't have gone to Denver
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: and won the AFC Championship game. But three bad year,
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: you know, bad foot, bad caddy.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: But you're starting to put the pieces into place, and
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: how's it all going to come together?
- 1:31:30Speaker 4: That's the big question right now.
- 1:31:31Speaker 12: I feel like I don't go that far back in
- 1:31:34Speaker 12: my memory bank, but like for my time covering the team,
- 1:31:37Speaker 12: like I still feel like this feels the most like
- 1:31:39Speaker 12: twenty one, where they had this big free agency class,
- 1:31:42Speaker 12: good to you know.
- 1:31:44Speaker 8: The draft class.
- 1:31:44Speaker 12: You have some players you're hopeful for, you have this
- 1:31:47Speaker 12: young quarterback that you're hopeful for but not proven yet,
- 1:31:51Speaker 12: and like that's how I still what is going on here?
- 1:31:56Speaker 5: Okay, Well, you know we're in a toy store, so
- 1:31:59Speaker 5: people just can coming.
- 1:32:00Speaker 6: Guy.
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: I was in the middle of a.
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: Take you hey, Matisa, what are you wearing?
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: Matist Bowman here? You know him from the Madden simulation broadcast?
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: Why are you here?
- 1:32:13Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:32:13Speaker 4: What the hell are you doing?
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: I had to defend my honor after two years with
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: the new Patriots Unfiltered shirt.
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: Okay, and there it is, Wow party in the back,
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: presented by the.
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: Cameras on you. Yeah, and you've got Patriots Unfiltered in
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: the bat there you go. Okay, So these are the
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: new T shirts right in we'll do trivia. So you
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: o T shirts too? Is that right?
- 1:32:45Speaker 11: Matis got five hundred of them, so we'll send him
- 1:32:46Speaker 11: out to everybody.
- 1:32:47Speaker 2: Okay, all right?
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: Can I.
- 1:32:50Speaker 2: You can wear more than.
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: One's not gonna shrink up on you. Okay, that's good.
- 1:32:54Speaker 5: Yeah, there's that one over there medium.
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: That's an Excel Excel would it be? Probably the medium? Now? No, no, no.
- 1:33:04Speaker 5: I have cut down the largest though.
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: Who could we maybe get a few of those and
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: go out into the crowd tomorrow perhaps and five hundred
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: like p U Pack who just called in, will give
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: them one?
- 1:33:15Speaker 8: Five hundred is going to be now you give a
- 1:33:17Speaker 8: T shirt.
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: Okay, all right, great, so now we finally have T shirts.
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: So when we do these things we can we can
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: fulfill them.
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: Why don't you go you want to strut in front
- 1:33:27Speaker 4: of the camera. You're gonna do like the catwalk, you know?
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, cool, excellent, put one on my desk for large.
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: Got you.
- 1:33:36Speaker 5: Sure you don't want an extra? It's okay for you
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: to make fun of me.
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: I'm doing it the other sideway, I said, medium, medium, medium, Paul, Yeah.
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: I heard you.
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: What's the matter with you?
- 1:33:52Speaker 4: Not a problem you're doing.
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: Come on? I feel like you know, you got things
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: in your.
- 1:33:59Speaker 4: Mind and his money on his mind.
- 1:34:02Speaker 5: The car no work, like we got stuff to do.
- 1:34:05Speaker 5: Get it right?
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: Okay, all right, well let's tickets. He just walks out.
- 1:34:13Speaker 3: Well, had he had made work, I told him to
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: get out, okay, go ahead, okay, all right.
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: So we got new T shirts.
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: Finally, exciting final if you could wear something good quality,
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: it looked good.
- 1:34:27Speaker 4: Yeah, it's on the show one or two.
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: We should Yeah.
- 1:34:30Speaker 8: Yeah, that's all you.
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: By by a total Evan doesn't want to represent.
- 1:34:35Speaker 8: I don't wear logos.
- 1:34:37Speaker 5: WHOA just vines exactly.
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: He'll do like a million hits for nothing, but he
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: won't wear the logo of a sponsor.
- 1:34:46Speaker 5: I don't need a logo on my chest.
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: He's available, Yeah, he want Patriot Takes.
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: David Main writes in I got a question for Evan
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: that can't wait until Catch twenty two. By the way,
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: when is Catch twenty two Thursday?
- 1:34:59Speaker 8: Two to four Thursday? Too busy?
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: I know that the newsletter that went out last week
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: at the wrong time.
- 1:35:05Speaker 12: I know we're trying to figure out like a permanent
- 1:35:07Speaker 12: time with like you know, football schedule and everything. It's
- 1:35:11Speaker 12: trying to lock in Barth's like, you know, bar all
- 1:35:14Speaker 12: over the sports of mister popular. So it's hard to.
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: You know, I just say real quick, I haven't never
- 1:35:18Speaker 3: seen a human being more like in their element than
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: Alex Barth figuring out who was on the white team
- 1:35:24Speaker 3: and who was on the blue team in the in
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: stadium and then and then he is out like the
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: worst way to running over to people, and then like
- 1:35:30Speaker 3: and then he posted and I was like, this is
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: what he came up with, and it was you couldn't
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: tell you who anybody was, but he was so locked
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: in on it, like he's got to get the team right,
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: And I'm like, Alex, you know if you just wait,
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: they're going to line up in the starting eleven and
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: then you just have it right there instead of trying to,
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: you know, navigate through all the lines.
- 1:35:46Speaker 5: So I didn't get to witness that you guys were
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: you guys were too good to hang out with. Fred
- 1:35:51Speaker 5: and I.
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: We just said we were up in the red level.
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: You know you weren't.
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: I don't know colors.
- 1:35:58Speaker 5: And the only time that I see Alex maybe more
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: excited is when he's trying to determine whether or not
- 1:36:04Speaker 5: a field goal was.
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: Going right, asking other people would you have? Would would
- 1:36:08Speaker 4: you have?
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: Like they run over with baited breath to get the line,
- 1:36:12Speaker 5: and I'm just like, it's like watching it, it was
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: kind of hard to tell. It looked like you made it.
- 1:36:17Speaker 5: I don't know, maybe he didn't.
- 1:36:19Speaker 8: A kicker competition is the best thing that's.
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: I think we should video Barth and Evans sitting down
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: at one of those electric football games and the bickering
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: that would go on between the two of them playing
- 1:36:31Speaker 2: against each other.
- 1:36:32Speaker 5: You're going to run that play against that?
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: Fine, right? Good good luck. I think that would be that.
- 1:36:38Speaker 8: He's going into a six month, Like, what are you doing?
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: Not too long? Maybe just like a ten minute game.
- 1:36:43Speaker 4: Bar it's like punting on second down. I just wanted
- 1:36:45Speaker 4: to see the punter. I just I couldn't wait. I
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: couldn't wait till fourth down.
- 1:36:48Speaker 5: I'm like a little piece of felt.
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: Yeah. I think that would be fun, the two of
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: them going at it at Electric Football. Anyway, this is
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: the question that David Mayne has. The other Dave Rabel
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: talked about not throwing to a receiver that's being covered
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: by a corner that's flat footed. What does that mean?
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: Well, he was talking specifically the last play of the
- 1:37:10Speaker 3: scrimmage where Drake threw it to Alex Austin who was
- 1:37:13Speaker 3: just kind of standing there waiting on it rather than
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: bailing out, you know, if he was in dropping out
- 1:37:19Speaker 3: its own in which case, yeah, rifle it to him.
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: But if he's just standing flat footed, he's going to
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: see the ball throwing and go right to it and sitting.
- 1:37:26Speaker 2: Yes, it doesn't mean that his feet are flat.
- 1:37:29Speaker 4: No, No, he's got great arches arch support.
- 1:37:32Speaker 5: My feet couldn't descript you very flat feet.
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: You can't go in the army.
- 1:37:37Speaker 5: Well that's what they said.
- 1:37:38Speaker 4: But he'd do it if he does.
- 1:37:41Speaker 5: As the doctor said to my mother when my mother
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: made that comment, well I keep him out of the
- 1:37:45Speaker 5: draft anyway, And the doctor said, well, they're not that flat.
- 1:37:50Speaker 4: You know, because he could have gone to Nam.
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: This guy, he wouldn't even know what we're talking about.
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: The draft. He's talking about the draft. One draft I
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: saw Will Campbell went.
- 1:38:00Speaker 16: There.
- 1:38:01Speaker 12: You know, I'm going to keep defending the wall with
- 1:38:04Speaker 12: Will Campbell and my guy.
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: You should be good.
- 1:38:06Speaker 5: I don't really, I don't care, and it's just to
- 1:38:10Speaker 5: be just to be clear, I just want to watch
- 1:38:13Speaker 5: them play. I'm not telling you that he can't justice practice.
- 1:38:19Speaker 5: I had a guy Friday night text me, one of
- 1:38:21Speaker 5: my buddies. Friday night. I was Will Campbell tonight. I
- 1:38:23Speaker 5: was like, it was practice. I don't like leave me alone.
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: I literally text, leave me alone.
- 1:38:29Speaker 8: It's practice.
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: Dave also says, how can I watch the preseason games
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: on TV? I live locally, but last year they weren't televised,
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: So I don't know what locally means to you. But
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: if you live in the Boston or Providence market.
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: They're absolutely on TV.
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean.
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: Four w b Z.
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: Now if he's in Maine, but it's got to be
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: a yeah, yeah, they have to have some kind of affiliate.
- 1:38:56Speaker 8: Technically New England, right, yeah, you're part of New England.
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's the matter.
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: Everybody's looking at me picking up the game.
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: So uh check your local listings. As they say, let's
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: go to the phones. We'll start with Mark in Connecticut. Hey, Mark,
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: Hey guys, I was doing today, Hi, Mark, I was
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: waiting great.
- 1:39:21Speaker 16: I was at a practice today and what I'd like
- 1:39:24Speaker 16: to see is I'd like to see get some run
- 1:39:27Speaker 16: with the with the top group. I like his explosiveness,
- 1:39:31Speaker 16: I like his foot work. I just like to see
- 1:39:33Speaker 16: them give him a chance with the top team.
- 1:39:37Speaker 8: I'm with you, Mark, We're still holding down.
- 1:39:40Speaker 12: We still have property on Chisholm Island, like okay, he's
- 1:39:43Speaker 12: a little little shack there, and we have his little
- 1:39:46Speaker 12: little house on larryon Larison Island.
- 1:39:50Speaker 5: More has he I've seen more from Larison has here
- 1:39:55Speaker 5: reps No, okay, so we're not going to see more.
- 1:39:58Speaker 5: I think that thank you for being honest.
- 1:40:02Speaker 12: Looks great against there. I think he's I think he's
- 1:40:04Speaker 12: got great like his he's got all of the makings
- 1:40:08Speaker 12: of a of a McDaniel slot. He's got the quickness,
- 1:40:11Speaker 12: he's got the jitterbug, he's got the first level separation, like, he's.
- 1:40:15Speaker 8: Got all of those tools.
- 1:40:17Speaker 12: But like a lot of these guys that played that
- 1:40:19Speaker 12: role over the years, even here, like it might take
- 1:40:23Speaker 12: a few years for it to click. If it's going
- 1:40:25Speaker 12: to click, Like, I don't think he's one of those
- 1:40:26Speaker 12: guys that's going to contribute as a rookie. It might
- 1:40:29Speaker 12: be more like an Edelman Welker type of track where
- 1:40:33Speaker 12: he's on the practice squad. He's a fringe roster player.
- 1:40:36Speaker 12: Troy Right, it takes the year or two, but then
- 1:40:38Speaker 12: all of a sudden, the game rounds out and he
- 1:40:40Speaker 12: gets a little bit bigger and a little bit faster
- 1:40:42Speaker 12: and boom.
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: Ye Anthony Boston, what's up, Anthony?
- 1:40:47Speaker 8: The drop in the insane in practice? That's not good.
- 1:40:50Speaker 25: Anthony warn that he got injured in the scrimage. But
- 1:40:58Speaker 25: I don't think he's seen any fields this game up.
- 1:41:00Speaker 25: And it's really weird considering johsh for Daniels coming in,
- 1:41:02Speaker 25: he had a really productive season with them. I just
- 1:41:04Speaker 25: wanted to know about that.
- 1:41:05Speaker 5: He's he's he's.
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: Had some reps. Reps Ken Kendrick not a lot, a lot, okay,
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: when he's called.
- 1:41:15Speaker 5: But I agree with Anthony, I don't. I've been a
- 1:41:17Speaker 5: little surprised that he hasn't gotten really many front line reps.
- 1:41:21Speaker 5: He's been with the two.
- 1:41:22Speaker 25: Throughout the trade block with Ugger and Strange, and I
- 1:41:25Speaker 25: think he could be gone.
- 1:41:26Speaker 12: So yeah, I think that he continues to when he
- 1:41:29Speaker 12: does practice. He hasn't been practicing the line what is
- 1:41:31Speaker 12: the package with trading? He's saying, Dugger and Strange and
- 1:41:34Speaker 12: Born you could get something for the hot names right
- 1:41:38Speaker 12: now on the trade block. But with Kendrick Bourne, every
- 1:41:41Speaker 12: time that he has practiced, it just feels like he's
- 1:41:44Speaker 12: with a group that he's better than, Like, you know,
- 1:41:47Speaker 12: like he's with like the Chisholms and the h you know,
- 1:41:51Speaker 12: Baker Polk, John Giles, Like he's with that group, and
- 1:41:55Speaker 12: you just keep looking over on that side of the
- 1:41:57Speaker 12: field of the practice fields with Josh Dobbs, and like
- 1:42:00Speaker 12: Kenrickbourn's over there.
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: No, I agree with that he hasn't been running with
- 1:42:04Speaker 2: the ones, but like when he does get thrown his way,
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: he looks pretty good.
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: Saw a couple of those early in camp. I mean,
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: I Phil lately he's tapered off. I haven't seen many
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: of those lately.
- 1:42:14Speaker 5: But I can't decide. If they just know what he is,
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: then they have a thought in mind for him, yep.
- 1:42:21Speaker 5: Or he's just going, he's on his way out, he's out. Yeah,
- 1:42:25Speaker 5: it's two diametrically opposite things. But I don't he has
- 1:42:30Speaker 5: not gotten any significant reps. And I agree with Evan.
- 1:42:33Speaker 5: When he's playing, he's playing with guys that he should
- 1:42:35Speaker 5: be dominating.
- 1:42:37Speaker 12: He just looks out of place, Like I'm Mike Kenner
- 1:42:39Speaker 12: bourn as an NFL receiver. I'm not sure these guys
- 1:42:41Speaker 12: he's playing with their NFL players.
- 1:42:43Speaker 5: And more importantly, going against yeah, right right, Like it's secondary,
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: you know, guys that are not going to end up
- 1:42:49Speaker 5: being in the league. He should be getting open against those.
- 1:42:52Speaker 3: Guys eight three, nine with a dash of thirteen and
- 1:42:56Speaker 3: we'll see about eighty.
- 1:42:57Speaker 4: And that's to me, that's what you're probably going in
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: the season.
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: And with over there, he's like Bill Belichick.
- 1:43:04Speaker 8: Phill is the numbers guy.
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: Question for Evan and Paul, how special do you guys
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: feel being Onduce's training camp wrap up? There you go.
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: You've gone from keeping track of Belichick's hoodies to having
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: your own show. You've passed up Paul and he's been
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: there for decades. But seriously, facts, I'll be yes the
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: Saints game this year. I hope you see you guys

- 1:44:06Speaker 4: gonna get down there? Hairful fun.
- 1:44:09Speaker 12: I'm looking forward to the food the most I've heard
- 1:44:11Speaker 12: the restaurants down there apparently top notch.
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: Josh in Atlanta. Everyone take a page out of Evans's
- 1:44:20Speaker 2: book and allow the young lineman to marinate for a
- 1:44:24Speaker 2: few months before making any sweeping proclamations.
- 1:44:27Speaker 5: That's that's Fred's book, and that's Paul's book.
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: I watched Barb give some valuable Will Campbell inside a
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: ninety eight point five yesterday just for the fear mongering
- 1:44:36Speaker 2: Felger to respond. So the kid isn't ready to be
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: in an NFL tackle. It's the first week of August
- 1:44:41Speaker 2: and we're talking about a twenty one year old first
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: round pick that was the consensus best tackle in the draft.
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: Felger and his crony should be arrested for the damage
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: they've done to Boston Sports media.
- 1:44:51Speaker 8: Okay, we can.
- 1:44:54Speaker 5: That's Fred's take. If you're going to go through the
- 1:44:56Speaker 5: bumps and bruises, you might as well get the bumps
- 1:44:58Speaker 5: and bruises over as quickly as you can. Now, I
- 1:45:00Speaker 5: let them play and go through, you know, suffer through
- 1:45:03Speaker 5: the peaks and valleys. That's I think. Friend's right.
- 1:45:06Speaker 8: I just like.
- 1:45:09Speaker 12: I guess that is the piece of it to me
- 1:45:11Speaker 12: that as has been grinding my gears is like we're
- 1:45:14Speaker 12: not allowing And I get it, it's not the media's
- 1:45:17Speaker 12: job to allow grace, but like we're not like looking
- 1:45:20Speaker 12: at it that way, you know what I'm saying, Like
- 1:45:22Speaker 12: he was not going to look like Joe Thomas in
- 1:45:25Speaker 12: his first training camp, like he wasn't going to look
- 1:45:27Speaker 12: like a Hall of Fame left tackle ten practices into
- 1:45:30Speaker 12: his NFL career. I'm sure none of them did.
- 1:45:33Speaker 5: Joe Thomas probably didn't.
- 1:45:35Speaker 12: Right, So, like, I get that, it's not our job.
- 1:45:37Speaker 12: Our job is to tell you what's happening and to
- 1:45:39Speaker 12: react to what's happening right now.
- 1:45:40Speaker 8: I get that, But.
- 1:45:42Speaker 12: From a bigger picture sense, if we just take a
- 1:45:45Speaker 12: step back and stake a step out of the training
- 1:45:48Speaker 12: camp reaction roller coaster and just look at it and say,
- 1:45:52Speaker 12: you know, he has shown positives as well that make
- 1:45:57Speaker 12: me think that he can be an NFL left tackle,
- 1:46:00Speaker 12: and I'm willing to ride it out with some of
- 1:46:03Speaker 12: these other things instead of saying, you know, he's gotten
- 1:46:06Speaker 12: beat by it in past protection a couple of times
- 1:46:08Speaker 12: by Chase On and Kean White, so he can't play.
- 1:46:11Speaker 12: And I'm not saying everybody's saying that. I'm just that's
- 1:46:14Speaker 12: sort of where I'm at with it.
- 1:46:15Speaker 5: From day one.
- 1:46:17Speaker 2: Who do you who's this goes back poll? Because I don't, honestly,
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: I don't know the answer to this. Who's looked better?
- 1:46:24Speaker 2: Matt Light or Will Campbell Matt Light you think so
- 1:46:28Speaker 2: I could, I wouldn't know.
- 1:46:30Speaker 5: I wouldn't know, and I and you know that I
- 1:46:32Speaker 5: don't think Matt Light was you know, great shakes. I
- 1:46:36Speaker 5: think he was a good left tackle, not great. But
- 1:46:39Speaker 5: I'm talking about from he step went in immediately and
- 1:46:41Speaker 5: showed that he was better than I mean again, it's
- 1:46:45Speaker 5: the same kind of deal. Will Campbell was showing that
- 1:46:48Speaker 5: he's better than the guys that were here. The Grant Williams,
- 1:46:51Speaker 5: the Greg Robinson, Randalls, those are the guys that were here.
- 1:46:54Speaker 5: Matt Light was better than them from day one, right,
- 1:46:56Speaker 5: just like Will Campbell's better than Badarian Lowe from day one.
- 1:46:59Speaker 5: I don't know what that means, yes, right? You know,
- 1:47:02Speaker 5: like one of the comments the email just used, he
- 1:47:07Speaker 5: was the consensus best tackle in the draft. That's a fact.
- 1:47:11Speaker 5: Does that mean he's good or is he the best
- 1:47:14Speaker 5: tackle and a bad tackle draft? I don't know. They
- 1:47:17Speaker 5: haven't played yet. Do you understand what I'm saying? Like,
- 1:47:20Speaker 5: telling me that a guy is the best tackle in
- 1:47:22Speaker 5: a draft means that he's better than potentially guys that stink,
- 1:47:26Speaker 5: or he's better than three guys that are also going
- 1:47:28Speaker 5: to go to the Hall of Fame with Will Campbell. Right,
- 1:47:31Speaker 5: those can mean drastically different things. We don't know. They
- 1:47:33Speaker 5: haven't played. The kid in Kansas City evidently has played
- 1:47:36Speaker 5: very well Josh Simmons, Right, I don't know if that
- 1:47:39Speaker 5: means anything. He hasn't played either. Maybe he stinks, but
- 1:47:43Speaker 5: we know that the left tackle that he's replacing kind
- 1:47:47Speaker 5: of stunk. He was kind of mid as they.
- 1:47:49Speaker 8: Say, was Joe tun playing tackle out of a pinch,
- 1:47:52Speaker 8: But like.
- 1:47:52Speaker 5: Right, no, no, no, I'm talking about the kid that
- 1:47:55Speaker 5: Joe had to replace because they bt Mattia and more
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: like all those injuries.
- 1:48:00Speaker 12: I just I think that there was this expectation because
- 1:48:02Speaker 12: he was the fourth overall pick, that he was going
- 1:48:05Speaker 12: to come out of the gate and he was going
- 1:48:07Speaker 12: to be a stud from day one. And I think
- 1:48:10Speaker 12: he has had moments of really dominant run blocking, honestly.
- 1:48:15Speaker 12: But the pass protection we knew coming into this with
- 1:48:18Speaker 12: all the We talked about this guy for six months,
- 1:48:21Speaker 12: and we talked about the limitations and pass protection, the length,
- 1:48:24Speaker 12: and the issues that he had at the college level
- 1:48:26Speaker 12: with the inside moves and like all we talked about
- 1:48:29Speaker 12: all of this, and then he gets into his rookie
- 1:48:31Speaker 12: mini training camp and he has some wartz and everybody
- 1:48:35Speaker 12: is like, you know, freaking out about it.
- 1:48:36Speaker 5: And it's like, that's a point that Mike Giardi was
- 1:48:38Speaker 5: making again on the hill. We have a lot of
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: good stuff going on the hill.
- 1:48:43Speaker 12: He was exactly what I expected Will Campbell to look like.
- 1:48:46Speaker 12: He's exactly met expectations.
- 1:48:49Speaker 5: But Mike actually used the same phrasing that you just
- 1:48:52Speaker 5: did yesterday when we were talking about it was like,
- 1:48:54Speaker 5: this is like you talk to a lot of these
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: people in the draft, and these are exactly the things
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: that they talked about with Wilke Amble. These are the
- 1:49:01Speaker 5: things that he struggled with and that there wasn't always
- 1:49:04Speaker 5: the requisite talent that made it made him pay for it.
- 1:49:07Speaker 5: But that inside move is not like something that just
- 1:49:10Speaker 5: suddenly popped up. It's something that he had trouble with
- 1:49:13Speaker 5: at times. It didn't always cost him, but at times
- 1:49:17Speaker 5: he struggled with that.
- 1:49:18Speaker 4: What was this like with Isaiah Win this first training camp?
- 1:49:22Speaker 5: This, Well, Will Campbell's better than Isaiah Win.
- 1:49:24Speaker 4: Because that was bad. I don't remember anything.
- 1:49:26Speaker 5: It wasn't that he was bad, but I don't remember
- 1:49:28Speaker 5: him looking like he belonged to that hurt. Will Campbell
- 1:49:31Speaker 5: to me looks like I don't watch Will Campbell and say,
- 1:49:34Speaker 5: my god, you can't get by with him playing Isaiah Win.
- 1:49:37Speaker 5: You ask Fred I had concerned about him and injuries.
- 1:49:41Speaker 5: He was too small well Detour's achilles. In the preseason.
- 1:49:46Speaker 5: In the practice field, he was not anything great.
- 1:49:50Speaker 2: James Pettig were the most interesting Patriots fan of the world.
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: My words. I know running Drake is dangerous, but I
- 1:49:57Speaker 2: wonder does it make it safer in the long term
- 1:49:59Speaker 2: if he gets the runs in Games one and two,
- 1:50:02Speaker 2: just to get the film up and put oppositions on
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: the back foot, could the short term risk help with
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: long term line security. Blitz at your own risk would
- 1:50:12Speaker 2: not I think having.
- 1:50:13Speaker 5: Wouldn't it the other way be just as valuable?
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: Well, But I think having in the heads of defense
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: that this guy can take off at any time is
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: a good thing.
- 1:50:21Speaker 5: That's his point. But I think you could also say,
- 1:50:26Speaker 5: I keep it under the vest right and then all
- 1:50:28Speaker 5: of a sudden you break it out when you need
- 1:50:29Speaker 5: it and you catch him off guard. But I think
- 1:50:32Speaker 5: you can make an argument both sides.
- 1:50:33Speaker 12: I think he's showed enough as a rookie that people
- 1:50:35Speaker 12: know he's mobile.
- 1:50:36Speaker 5: They're absolutely going to have to be prepared for that.
- 1:50:38Speaker 4: I mean, that's my feeling right now.
- 1:50:39Speaker 3: If I was going against him, keep him in the pocket,
- 1:50:41Speaker 3: don't let him scort out, make him read the field,
- 1:50:43Speaker 3: and make them deliver tight throws consistently, and until he
- 1:50:47Speaker 3: breaks out of that and shows he can.
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: You know, like, if Jayden Daniels doesn't run but four
- 1:50:52Speaker 5: or five times over the first five weeks of the season,
- 1:50:54Speaker 5: do you think defensive coordinators.
- 1:50:57Speaker 4: He's not running anymore.
- 1:50:58Speaker 5: He's already established that he can run. And I think
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: Drake May has two.
- 1:51:02Speaker 12: Certainly as a scrambler, like they didn't run him by
- 1:51:05Speaker 12: design a Ton last year, but as a scrambler absolutely.
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: To the defense of the emailer, he hasn't run in
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: Josh McDaniel's offense yet. So let's see what McDaniels has
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: in store for him.
- 1:51:14Speaker 12: Yeah, I'm optimistic about that because McDaniels had a great
- 1:51:18Speaker 12: package for Cam Newton.
- 1:51:19Speaker 4: Was in Miami right right that ft.
- 1:51:21Speaker 12: I mean, the fact that we had never really seen
- 1:51:24Speaker 12: him do that and then he kind of just like
- 1:51:26Speaker 12: pulled like an option package out of his rear end
- 1:51:28Speaker 12: was like pretty impressive in twenty twenty, so I assume
- 1:51:31Speaker 12: it will be some similar things, like they're not going
- 1:51:33Speaker 12: to run Drake right up the gut like they were
- 1:51:35Speaker 12: doing with Cam Newton, but it was similar mechanics to it.
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: Bryant in Denver has a big gripe with us at
- 1:51:45Speaker 2: the end of the show last week with Claire all
- 1:51:47Speaker 2: of a sudden, according to Paul, Bill Belichick is not
- 1:51:51Speaker 2: responsible for anything but five percent of the success of
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: the Patriots dynasty. Brady is responsible for ninety five percent. Then,
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: I couldn't believe that Evan showed his absolute ignorance by
- 1:52:02Speaker 2: bashing Tony Dungee and stating that he was one of
- 1:52:05Speaker 2: the worst NFL coaches. For the record, didn't say that
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: Don shul and Dan Marino were together for seventeen years
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: and never won a Super Bowl. Dan Marino was arguably
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: one of the best quarterbacks in history, and Shula is
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: arguably the best coach in history. Oh, by the way,
- 1:52:19Speaker 2: Marino had great players around him and didn't win.
- 1:52:23Speaker 8: I don't understand what that.
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: Oh by the way, Bill replaced Bledsoe with Brady, much
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: to the chagrin of fans like Paul, but only five
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: percent and for the record, John Gruden took Dungee's established
- 1:52:33Speaker 2: team and coasted to a Super Bowl over his old
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: team Oakland, which he knew implicitly. I get it. Paul's
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: new stick is to be counter and controversial because Evan
- 1:52:42Speaker 2: and Duce are more conciliatory and he's trying to spice
- 1:52:45Speaker 2: up the show. But she's Paul, get back to Paul
- 1:52:48Speaker 2: and leave the don Imus stephen A. Smith crap alone.
- 1:52:51Speaker 8: It's not your style, yeah, Paul, So can I attack
- 1:52:55Speaker 8: some of this?
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: Sure? Absolutely?
- 1:52:57Speaker 8: Why rest of.
- 1:52:57Speaker 5: All, don't be silly and take the fun back and
- 1:53:02Speaker 5: forth that I had with Claire ninety five to five
- 1:53:04Speaker 5: as being serious. So I'll just say I was being sarcastic.
- 1:53:10Speaker 5: But you're trying to tell me that suggesting that Brady
- 1:53:14Speaker 5: had more to do with the success than Belichick is
- 1:53:17Speaker 5: like a stephen A. Smith controversial hot take that that's
- 1:53:22Speaker 5: what I'm trying to do. I think that Brady was
- 1:53:25Speaker 5: more vital to the success than Belichick was. I think
- 1:53:28Speaker 5: time has sort of proven that. I think it's kind
- 1:53:30Speaker 5: of a fact.
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:53:32Speaker 5: Like I don't think that that's a hot take at all.
- 1:53:34Speaker 5: I don't. I'm not trying to be controversial. I'm not
- 1:53:36Speaker 5: trying to be counter with Mike and Evan. Like one
- 1:53:40Speaker 5: guy left won a title without the coach. The coach
- 1:53:44Speaker 5: got to continue to coach without Brady In won four games.
- 1:53:48Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:53:49Speaker 5: I don't really think that that's all overly controversial. That's
- 1:53:52Speaker 5: what happened.
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: YEP.
- 1:53:54Speaker 5: I was long on the I thought it was a
- 1:53:56Speaker 5: little bit more Belichick than Brady Camp than I was
- 1:54:00Speaker 5: proven wrong. Then I had a change. What are you
