- 0:13Speaker 1: Well, I know they're playing right now, but how was
- 0:17Speaker 1: the route, AJ? How was the route? Sam Antonacci was
- 0:23Speaker 1: disappointed with himself on the route that he took with
- 0:26Speaker 1: two outs that led to Brian Rocchio winning the game
- 0:29Speaker 1: for the Guardians.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Listen, okay, I'm not even going to– I'm just going
- 0:37Speaker 2: to pull this out. Okay, you guys see this? Do
- 0:40Speaker 2: you guys know what these are? Do you know what
- 0:41Speaker 2: this is? Reservoir? Yes, I'm going to put this on.
- 0:47Speaker 2: It's a White Sox rosary. They went to the Vatican
- 0:49Speaker 2: with me. So I'm going to wear this today because, man,
- 0:53Speaker 2: the White Sox need to win this game today. Because
- 0:54Speaker 2: if they win last night, then basically the damn.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Wait, but tell me about the route.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I didn't have a problem with the route because they
- 1:03Speaker 2: tell him where to play and they have the card.
- 1:04Speaker 2: He was in the right spot. Listen, he's only been
- 1:07Speaker 2: an outfielder for a year now. So it's a tough play,
- 1:11Speaker 2: the ball slicing away from him. Rocchio hits it left-handed.
- 1:14Speaker 2: My problem was, Kratz and I talked about this, the pitch.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I'm never one to second-guess. I mean, here's Antonacci. He
- 1:23Speaker 2: kind of goes sideways, and then he realizes it's over
- 1:25Speaker 2: his head. Tough play. Okay. I mean, that's just good swinging.
- 1:29Speaker 2: But my question is, they threw him two sliders, and
- 1:34Speaker 2: he wasn't close to them. And then early in the year, July,
- 1:38Speaker 2: I think it was July 2nd, he had hit a
- 1:39Speaker 2: homer on a fastball off the same guy to walk
- 1:43Speaker 2: off win. If you throw a fastball there, and I'm
- 1:46Speaker 2: not one to second-guess guys at all, and I really
- 1:48Speaker 2: am sorry about this, and this is just a fan
- 1:50Speaker 2: being a fan, but if you throw him a fastball,
- 1:53Speaker 2: it can't be where he can reach it. It's got
- 1:55Speaker 2: to be like over. And even they said it. I
- 1:57Speaker 2: was watching the Guardians broadcast, and they asked, Arch, they go, Arch,
- 2:02Speaker 2: would you throw him a fastball? He goes, yeah, if
- 2:03Speaker 2: it's over his head. And they throw one about right here,
- 2:05Speaker 2: and he hits the double left.
- 2:07Speaker 4: And I was like, no!
- 2:11Speaker 1: And then did you see the spray chart conversation from
- 2:15Speaker 1: Chuck on the post-game show and how Ozzie was saying
- 2:19Speaker 1: he was too shallow?
- 2:20Speaker 3: Here it is.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Chuck sums it up. Jeff Agrist, who covers Chicago media.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Chuck Garfine, post-game, said on the spray chart for Rokio,
- 2:29Speaker 1: he rarely puts the ball In the corner there, if
- 2:32Speaker 1: he does, he's batting right-handed. This is batting left-handed. So
- 2:36Speaker 1: Chuck thought that Antonacci was in the right spot. And
- 2:40Speaker 1: Ozzie Guillen said he was not. He was too shallow.
- 2:45Speaker 2: No, I disagree. He's playing where the spray chart tells
- 2:48Speaker 2: him to play, right? Like Crouchy? And then also, by
- 2:51Speaker 2: the way... when there's two outs and the winning run
- 2:55Speaker 2: was on second, let's not forget the winning run was
- 2:57Speaker 2: on second. It wasn't the tying run. The tying run
- 2:59Speaker 2: was on third. You also have to play in an
- 3:00Speaker 2: area where you can throw the guy out. If he
- 3:02Speaker 2: hits it directly to you, you have to be able
- 3:04Speaker 2: to get the ball. If you're playing too deep, the
- 3:06Speaker 2: third base coach, if it's just a single, you wave him.
- 3:10Speaker 2: And honestly, if you're in the opposite field, you're the
- 3:13Speaker 2: left hand, you're the left fielder for a left-handed hitter
- 3:16Speaker 2: and nothing against Brian Rocchio, but he's not a power guy.
- 3:19Speaker 2: You have to take away the bloop more than if
- 3:21Speaker 2: he hits it over your head, Sometimes you got to
- 3:23Speaker 2: tip your cap and say, man, he's not supposed to
- 3:26Speaker 2: do that the other way. I had no problem with
- 3:28Speaker 2: where he's playing. I had no problem with the route.
- 3:30Speaker 2: It surprised him because of where you're playing. You're not
- 3:32Speaker 2: expecting the guy here over your head. Right. So I
- 3:35Speaker 2: don't know. And listen, did I really have a problem
- 3:36Speaker 2: with the pitch? No, I don't know the scouting reports.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It's just a fan. But it was a bad man.
- 3:41Speaker 2: It was such a tough loss. Oh, my God. I
- 3:43Speaker 2: got people texting me that don't even care about the
- 3:45Speaker 2: White Sox. Are you okay? And I'm like, no, man,
- 3:48Speaker 2: that was– oh, that's why. I had to bring out
- 3:49Speaker 2: the big guns today. I had to bring out the
- 3:51Speaker 2: White Sox rosary. I had to bring it out today.
- 3:54Speaker 2: There's going to.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Be a– You had it yesterday. You had it yesterday.
- 3:57Speaker 4: I didn't see it two days ago. I'm just keeping
- 3:59Speaker 4: it honest for our fans. You had it out yesterday.
- 4:02Speaker 4: I didn't see it the day before.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I did, but not on the show. Not on the show.
- 4:06Speaker 4: You choose.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Not on the show. You choose. I mean– I mean,
- 4:10Speaker 2: we can go full, we can go full Pope regalia
- 4:12Speaker 2: if we have to. I mean, we can go all everything.
- 4:15Speaker 2: If you guys see me disappear for a couple seconds,
- 4:18Speaker 2: it's because something happened in the game. So just know that.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Hey, one more thing before we get to a different game.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Did you see Tommy fam getting activated today because he
- 4:29Speaker 1: ran into Chris gets and told him that he was ready.
- 4:32Speaker 1: He told the media fam that if he hadn't run
- 4:35Speaker 1: into gets, he probably wouldn't have been activated until the weekend.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Is that how activations work?
- 4:41Speaker 4: Apparently.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Apparently they do now. He's hitting fourth, too. He's hitting
- 4:45Speaker 2: cleanup today. I love Tommy.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Go, Tommy. Yes.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Go, Tommy. He's hitting cleanup. He went from not being
- 4:50Speaker 2: active to hitting cleanup against Parker Mesa today.
- 4:53Speaker 3: They're having a problem with their other cleanup hitter.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Which one?
- 4:58Speaker 3: Well, the Murakami version.
- 5:01Speaker 2: And also Montgomery hasn't been much better. Those two guys
- 5:04Speaker 2: have not had a good, I would say, second half.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Well, we'll get the emotions from AJ as that game
- 5:11Speaker 1: goes on during the show, but let's get to other news.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I don't want to talk about it. I don't want
- 5:14Speaker 2: to talk about it.
- 5:19Speaker 3: So tell me about this, AJ.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Pete Alonzo hits a huge home run to tie the
- 5:26Speaker 1: game and then eventually the Orioles win the game.
- 5:28Speaker 3: They still have a sliver of a chance. At a
- 5:31Speaker 3: wild card. So it's meaningful for them. It means nothing
- 5:34Speaker 3: for the Mets.
- 5:35Speaker 1: It means everything for Mets fans. They are packing the
- 5:38Speaker 1: house for Pete's return to Queens. This was the sequel
- 5:41Speaker 1: to the first night, and this was a much more
- 5:43Speaker 1: successful night for Pete.
- 5:44Speaker 3: It's his 300th home run. Curtain call for Pete at home.
- 5:50Speaker 1: After he had already returned, pissing off some Mets players,
- 5:53Speaker 1: which we'll get to in a moment. Would you be
- 5:55Speaker 1: bothered by this, AJ? But you have to give all
- 5:57Speaker 1: of the context, right? It's not in a vacuum. Given
- 6:00Speaker 1: all the context of how Mets fans feel about this
- 6:02Speaker 1: season and their love of Pete and, I guess, wanting
- 6:05Speaker 1: him to be there for life, do you have any
- 6:08Speaker 1: problems with how this was handled by the fan base? Hey,
- 6:12Speaker 1: today's episode is presented by the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Program.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Krats, we love our pups.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Yes, I love my mini golden doodle, Bella. But you
- 6:22Speaker 4: can't miss this opportunity, just like Bella misses the ball
- 6:26Speaker 4: when you bounce it to her.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Bella, you're almost there.
- 6:29Speaker 1: The ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Program offers customizable accident and
- 6:33Speaker 1: illness plans that can fit your budget, your lifestyle, and
- 6:36Speaker 1: even your pet's particular quirks. Because let's be honest, vet
- 6:39Speaker 1: bills can add up fast. ASPCA Pet Health Insurance has

- 6:45Speaker 1: 1 million pets. To explore coverage, visit ASPCAPetInsurance.com slash FAL.
- 6:52Speaker 1: That's ASPCAPetInsurance.com slash FAL. Again, ASPCAPetInsurance.com slash FAL. This is

- 7:09Speaker 1: insurer and is not engaged in the business of insurance.
- 7:13Speaker 2: First of all, raise your hand if you've had a
- 7:14Speaker 2: curtain call on the road.
- 7:18Speaker 3: That's why I'm asking you first.
- 7:19Speaker 2: It's really cool, by the way, when it happens. It
- 7:21Speaker 2: happened to me once in Wrigley.
- 7:22Speaker 4: It was awesome.
- 7:24Speaker 2: But... I love it. Listen, the Mets fans were showing
- 7:30Speaker 2: it wasn't a thing. It was about Pete, obviously, his
- 7:32Speaker 2: 300th homer. He's the all-time leader in home runs as
- 7:35Speaker 2: a Mets player. This was more directed at other things
- 7:39Speaker 2: than just Pete. And if you're a player and you're
- 7:43Speaker 2: mad about this, then I don't know who you're mad at.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Are you mad at your pitcher for giving up the
- 7:48Speaker 2: home run? Are you mad at the team for losing?
- 7:51Speaker 2: Why are you mad at the fans? The fans cheer
- 7:53Speaker 2: for who they're going to cheer for. When you do good,
- 7:55Speaker 2: they cheer for you. When you do bad, they boo you.
- 7:57Speaker 2: That's just the life of a professional athlete and someone
- 8:00Speaker 2: in the spotlight. So I understand where they're like, man,
- 8:03Speaker 2: I've never really– and Sean Mania said, man, I've never
- 8:05Speaker 2: really seen anything like this. But to get mad– you
- 8:08Speaker 2: can't be mad at the fans. The fans are showing
- 8:10Speaker 2: their love and support of the Mets, but they're also
- 8:13Speaker 2: showing their displeasure at certain people in the Mets organization
- 8:16Speaker 2: who they wanted to bring Pete back. And listen, say
- 8:19Speaker 2: what you want. I saw Britton DeRolli wrote about Pete's
- 8:22Speaker 2: not a legend. He is a legend to Mets fans
- 8:24Speaker 2: because he showed up every day. Did he have good
- 8:26Speaker 2: years and bad years?
- 8:27Speaker 4: Yes.
- 8:27Speaker 2: He has their all-time home run record. I mean, if
- 8:30Speaker 2: he's not a legend, is Darryl– I mean, I guess,
- 8:31Speaker 2: you know, Darryl Strawberry, I think, who he beat, is
- 8:33Speaker 2: he a legend? Because, you know, Pete broke his record.
- 8:36Speaker 2: So if Darryl Strawberry is a legend, isn't Pete a legend?
- 8:38Speaker 2: So I don't know. I just feel like the fans
- 8:42Speaker 2: did what they did. His first at bat, he got
- 8:43Speaker 2: a great ovation. They played the montage. Pete tipped his hat.
- 8:46Speaker 2: After that, it kind of settled down. But then when
- 8:48Speaker 2: a guy hits his 300th homer against an organization he
- 8:51Speaker 2: spent most of his career with, They showed their support, man.
- 8:54Speaker 2: It was kind of cool. I'm not going to lie. Listen,
- 8:57Speaker 2: I'd be like, damn, I'm kind of jealous though. And
- 8:58Speaker 2: when I go on the road, I don't get an
- 8:59Speaker 2: ovation like that.
- 9:01Speaker 3: I thought it was awesome. It was awesome.
- 9:03Speaker 1: And Sean Mania spoke about it post-game. I think he
- 9:06Speaker 1: was representing quite a few others. So here's what he said.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Nothing but respect for him.
- 9:10Speaker 5: And, you know, I love him to death. But, you know,
- 9:14Speaker 5: as a team, as the 2026 Mets, I know we
- 9:17Speaker 5: have definitely underperformed. But, you know, we are– the, the,
- 9:22Speaker 5: the guys in here work their ass off every single day. Um,
- 9:27Speaker 5: and you know, to have that kind of reaction to
- 9:31Speaker 5: an opposing player, you know, it could be anybody.
- 9:33Speaker 4: Um, it's crazy to me.
- 9:35Speaker 5: Um, you know, I've, again, I've got nothing but respect
- 9:39Speaker 5: for Pete, but, um, yeah, I've just never seen anything
- 9:42Speaker 5: like that before.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Um, and yeah, I.
- 9:46Speaker 5: Know the guys in here, we are grinding our butts
- 9:50Speaker 5: off and, stuff like that happens, but yeah, it's just,
- 9:55Speaker 5: I've never seen anything like that before. It's kind of crazy.
- 9:58Speaker 4: I've never seen it either. I'm sure the feeling was
- 10:01Speaker 4: probably a little bit of embarrassment, but also like, come
- 10:05Speaker 4: on guys. Like, come on fans. Like get behind us.
- 10:09Speaker 4: I loved it because it had a twofold meeting.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Yes.
- 10:11Speaker 4: They loved Pete. They love, they still love him. There's
- 10:14Speaker 4: going to be people that will forever be like, Oh,
- 10:17Speaker 4: Pete Alonzo is my favorite player. But they also had
- 10:20Speaker 4: an opportunity to kind of push it back in the
- 10:25Speaker 4: face of the front office. And that was their chance
- 10:29Speaker 4: to let it out. Shamanaya, I think he's speaking for
- 10:35Speaker 4: the guys in the dugout. They're a little pissed about it.
- 10:39Speaker 4: But you know what? You don't like it? Play better.
- 10:42Speaker 3: I'm with you, man.
- 10:44Speaker 1: So let's talk this out. David Lennon from Newsday joining
- 10:47Speaker 1: us right now. David, thank you for the time. Give
- 10:49Speaker 1: us your context and your take on if this all
- 10:52Speaker 1: makes sense, where the fans stand, where the Mets players stand.
- 10:55Speaker 6: Well, I'll tell you what, guys. Are you familiar with
- 10:57Speaker 6: the movie The Perfect Storm, when the weatherman is standing
- 11:00Speaker 6: at the board and explaining the cold front coming in
- 11:03Speaker 6: from the north and the other warm weather coming down
- 11:05Speaker 6: from the south? What we've witnessed the past two days
- 11:08Speaker 6: at Citi Field has been the perfect storm. Up here,
- 11:12Speaker 6: you have the Mets season, a disaster, a colossal disappointment,
- 11:16Speaker 6: supposed to be a World Series favorite. Down here, you
- 11:20Speaker 6: have Pete Alonzo's incredible season, shaking off the first month,
- 11:24Speaker 6: up 35 home runs, 100 RBIs, doing Pete Alonzo stuff again.
- 11:29Speaker 6: Coming in the other direction, you have the front office
- 11:31Speaker 6: led by president of operations, David Stearns. David Stearns is
- 11:36Speaker 6: one of the most disliked sports GMs in this city
- 11:40Speaker 6: in quite some time. And you have all these things
- 11:43Speaker 6: converging together. And that's why you got something you've never
- 11:47Speaker 6: seen before last night. A curtain call by an opposing player.
- 11:52Speaker 6: Not only that, guys, and you did point that out,
- 11:54Speaker 6: maybe that's not that too unusual. The circumstances are what
- 11:58Speaker 6: makes it a little unusual. Save situation for Kodai Senga.
- 12:03Speaker 6: Converted closer, trying to get a feel for the job.
- 12:05Speaker 6: Had been perfect before that point. Home run ties the game.
- 12:10Speaker 6: Team going nowhere, but still, you guys know, AJ, Eric,
- 12:14Speaker 6: there's a lot of pride. These guys want to win
- 12:16Speaker 6: night in and night out. Tough blow to take. And
- 12:19Speaker 6: then I have to admit, being in the press box
- 12:20Speaker 6: last night, when we saw Pete come out, we were like,
- 12:25Speaker 6: he's doing a curtain call. It was kind of a shock.
- 12:28Speaker 6: And then one other point, too, to follow up. You know,
- 12:30Speaker 6: acknowledge the fans, which Pete does. He's beloved here. Media, fans,
- 12:34Speaker 6: everybody loved him. Right after that, you heard the Fire
- 12:38Speaker 6: Stearns chants crack up. And that's what showed you the
- 12:41Speaker 6: underlying current to what's been going on here. In addition
- 12:45Speaker 6: to the love for Pete Alonzo... which of.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Course is genuine.
- 12:48Speaker 6: One of the most beloved players I've covered in nearly
- 12:51Speaker 6: a quarter century around the team. But there is that
- 12:54Speaker 6: undercurrent of dissatisfaction with the front office led by David Stearns.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Great analogy. And pretty good movie too, so I appreciate that.
- 13:04Speaker 7: I'm a fan.
- 13:06Speaker 4: You kind of hit it here, but I want to
- 13:08Speaker 4: kind of expand on it a little bit. Which was
- 13:12Speaker 4: the driver more for this reaction? their love of Pete
- 13:18Speaker 4: or their hate for David Stearns. And if it's the latter,
- 13:22Speaker 4: does it move Steve Cohen to say, to do something
- 13:26Speaker 4: that he said, no, no, he is coming back. Maybe
- 13:30Speaker 4: I see what the fans are saying because Stevie Cohen's
- 13:33Speaker 4: one of the owners that really is trying to engage
- 13:36Speaker 4: with fans.
- 13:38Speaker 6: I mean, the fans wanted to get the owner's attention
- 13:41Speaker 6: and David Stearns attention and they've got their attention at
- 13:44Speaker 6: this point.
- 13:45Speaker 4: It's unavoidable.
- 13:47Speaker 6: I think we heard fire Carlos Mendoza chants a couple
- 13:50Speaker 6: of days before he was let go at the end
- 13:52Speaker 6: of June. So listen, the fans are the paying customers.
- 13:57Speaker 6: They pay a ton of money to come see this team.
- 14:00Speaker 6: If they're upset with the direction the team is heading,
- 14:04Speaker 6: if homegrown stars that they love to come out and
- 14:07Speaker 6: pay money to watch are disappearing from the roster, that's
- 14:12Speaker 6: a valid concern. I mean, it, Teams are not built
- 14:16Speaker 6: around one player, obviously. David Stearns had a plan this
- 14:19Speaker 6: winter to remake the roster, kind of a fresh start
- 14:22Speaker 6: after the disappointment of last year. So in Pete's case, listen,
- 14:29Speaker 6: I think that Pete is really kind of the lightning
- 14:33Speaker 6: rod for everything that's gone wrong for the team this year.
- 14:37Speaker 6: Fans hated when they didn't try to resign him. So
- 14:41Speaker 6: we knew him coming back here was going to be
- 14:43Speaker 6: a scene. And really the first night kind of went
- 14:46Speaker 6: as planned. You know, the Mets had a good tribute
- 14:49Speaker 6: video for him. Pete was emotional on the field. You
- 14:51Speaker 6: could tell as he watched it. He got standing ovations
- 14:54Speaker 6: when he came to the plate. There was an early
- 14:56Speaker 6: fire storage chant, which everybody expected. Then it kind of
- 14:59Speaker 6: settled down and Pete would get the standing ovation after
- 15:01Speaker 6: standing ovation. But I think they were really waiting for
- 15:05Speaker 6: number 300. And we were kind of curious what would
- 15:07Speaker 6: happen next. when he did hit it out, and it
- 15:10Speaker 6: was inevitable, Pete was going to be here for three games,
- 15:13Speaker 6: he was going to hit a home run. I mean,
- 15:14Speaker 6: that was absolutely going to happen. So when it did,
- 15:17Speaker 6: I think everything bubbled up, and there was a lot
- 15:20Speaker 6: of frustration that was vented during that time, in addition
- 15:24Speaker 6: to the adoration for Pete.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Is the frustration warranted? Is the frustration warranted towards David Stern,
- 15:32Speaker 2: Stevie Cohen, whatever? Because now we're hearing stories where, yes,
- 15:35Speaker 2: Stevie Cohen offered Pete Alonzo a contract, but he got
- 15:38Speaker 2: more after he did the one year and then he
- 15:40Speaker 2: signed with the Orioles, right? So is it warranted at
- 15:43Speaker 2: David Stearns? Because this really wasn't a David Stearns decision, right?
- 15:46Speaker 2: It was more of a Stevie Cohen at one time. Again,
- 15:49Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:51Speaker 6: Yeah, AJ, I think the difference here in one part
- 15:53Speaker 6: that I left out of my weather map is that
- 15:56Speaker 6: if the Mets were playing well, if they were in
- 15:59Speaker 6: contention right now, this doesn't happen. You know, the fans
- 16:04Speaker 6: are squarely behind the team. They're squarely behind David Stern's
- 16:08Speaker 6: plan to remake the roster. And they've moved on. Pete
- 16:12Speaker 6: would have got his tribute video. There would have been
- 16:15Speaker 6: plenty of applause. You would have seen the signs, plenty
- 16:17Speaker 6: of number 20 jerseys. But it wouldn't have turned into
- 16:20Speaker 6: the kind of the combustible thing it is right now.
- 16:23Speaker 6: And listen, AJ, you brought it up. I mean, Pete
- 16:25Speaker 6: Alonzo was a free agent a couple of years ago
- 16:27Speaker 6: when the Mets made a pitch to him. It was
- 16:30Speaker 6: a good offer to stay. I understand why he didn't
- 16:33Speaker 6: take it. He wanted to play out free agency, see
- 16:36Speaker 6: how it went. So that's how the game's played. You're
- 16:40Speaker 6: becoming a free agent. You want to see what your
- 16:42Speaker 6: market value is. You'll take it from there. And at
- 16:44Speaker 6: that point, I think the Mets were feeling a little
- 16:47Speaker 6: scorched by what happened with them on the first go-round
- 16:50Speaker 6: with Pete. Steve Cohen made it happen for him to
- 16:53Speaker 6: come back the first time he hit free agency with
- 16:55Speaker 6: the one-year deal. This time around, when he was determined
- 16:58Speaker 6: to do it again, I think they felt they weren't
- 17:01Speaker 6: going to be in the market for him. They weren't
- 17:03Speaker 6: going to go to five years, maybe three. So when
- 17:06Speaker 6: they knew other teams were going to go to five,
- 17:07Speaker 6: especially when the Orioles took the lead, they backed off.
- 17:11Speaker 6: And then it became done much quicker than any of
- 17:14Speaker 6: us would have expected.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Eric Kratz, you're smart. You were a catcher in Major
- 17:19Speaker 1: League Baseball for a long time. You need to be
- 17:21Speaker 1: smart to be a catcher. And you also need to
- 17:23Speaker 1: be smart to get the best possible wireless plan available.
- 17:27Speaker 3: That you can get.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Don't fall for the gimmicks or certain types of signup bonuses.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Just give me the cheap rate and the premium wireless.
- 17:37Speaker 4: That's what Mint Mobile gives us. And you don't pay
- 17:40Speaker 4: a lot and you get a lot.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Seems like a no brainer, even for what you said,
- 17:45Speaker 4: a smart guy.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Yep. Be smart.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Get your new wireless plan for just 15 bucks a month.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Go to mintmobile.com slash territory. Cut your wireless bill to
- 17:53Speaker 1: 15 bucks a month at mintmobile.com slash territory. Upfront payment
- 17:57Speaker 1: of $ 45 for three months, $ 90 for six months, or
- 18:00Speaker 1: $ 180 for 12 months plan required. $ 15 per month equivalent.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Taxes and fees extra. Initial plan term only. Greater than
- 18:07Speaker 1: 50 gigabytes may slow when network is busy. Includes up
- 18:10Speaker 1: to 20 gigabyte hotspot. Capable device required. Availability, speed, and
- 18:14Speaker 1: coverage varies.
- 18:15Speaker 3: See mintmobile.com.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Isn't it also ironic that Mets first baseman, I think
- 18:20Speaker 4: I had the stat right, have 48 RBIs and 18
- 18:25Speaker 4: home runs. And Pete has 36 home runs and 100 RBIs.
- 18:31Speaker 4: So while they didn't think he was worth that amount
- 18:34Speaker 4: of money, how do the Mets get there from here?
- 18:38Speaker 4: Get to... Pete type of numbers from here with what
- 18:42Speaker 4: they've already done. And they also still have Jorge Polanco
- 18:45Speaker 4: for next year or whoever else they're going to teach
- 18:47Speaker 4: to play first base.
- 18:49Speaker 6: I'll add two other things to that for you, Eric.
- 18:52Speaker 4: One is F war.
- 18:53Speaker 6: I think for the Mets six first baseman there, I
- 18:55Speaker 6: think is negative 0.3 Pete's over four. So you see
- 19:00Speaker 6: what as one person and the other thing Pete plays
- 19:03Speaker 6: every day. The Mets' first base situation has been an
- 19:06Speaker 6: injury-riddled mess for the entire year, trying to figure out
- 19:10Speaker 6: who's going to be there. Polanco didn't last the first
- 19:12Speaker 6: two weeks, only made a couple of starts there. Mark
- 19:16Speaker 6: Vientos got hurt. They were trying to rotate a number
- 19:18Speaker 6: of other guys in there. So they're really back to
- 19:22Speaker 6: square one. Polanco signed for another year at $ 20 million.
- 19:25Speaker 6: They've shown little to no desire to use him at
- 19:28Speaker 6: first base. Obviously, he had the ankle injury this year.
- 19:31Speaker 4: But going forward.
- 19:33Speaker 6: You know, he's a guy that's barely played first base.
- 19:35Speaker 6: So how do you make that investment in him for
- 19:38Speaker 6: next year?
- 19:38Speaker 4: You're paying him.
- 19:39Speaker 6: But playing him at first base seems like a stretch
- 19:41Speaker 6: at this point. So it's pretty incredible that they had
- 19:45Speaker 6: this supposed plan to replace Pete. They didn't come close.
- 19:49Speaker 6: I mean, not even in the same ballpark for that.
- 19:51Speaker 6: And now they have to do it all over again
- 19:54Speaker 6: for this next offseason while being treated to Pete's comeback here, which,
- 19:58Speaker 6: I mean, reunion here or homecoming, whatever you want to
- 20:01Speaker 6: call it, which is really a giant L for them
- 20:04Speaker 6: in any way you look at it.
- 20:06Speaker 2: David, did anybody get Steve Cohen's reaction? I mean, I
- 20:09Speaker 2: know we saw Sean Minaya and he's probably spoke for
- 20:11Speaker 2: all the players. And listen, as a player, I get
- 20:13Speaker 2: what Sean Minaya is saying, but also at the same time,
- 20:15Speaker 2: I'm thinking, damn, that was really cool, man. I hope
- 20:18Speaker 2: one day they do that for me when I come
- 20:19Speaker 2: back here. I mean, it doesn't happen very often. So,
- 20:22Speaker 2: I mean, I thought that was pretty cool. I think
- 20:23Speaker 2: Piazza got a couple when he got one, when he
- 20:25Speaker 2: hit the couple home runs against the Mets when he
- 20:27Speaker 2: came back. So, I mean, I think there's been a
- 20:29Speaker 2: couple of people that have happened too. So has anyone
- 20:32Speaker 2: talked to Steve Cohen? Has anyone talked to David Stearns
- 20:34Speaker 2: about this situation?
- 20:36Speaker 6: Well, Steve has been around. He was on the field
- 20:38Speaker 6: and he actually talked to Pete before Monday's game. So
- 20:42Speaker 6: they just kind of had a short little interaction. And
- 20:44Speaker 6: Steve wasn't around yesterday. He's not around all the time.
- 20:48Speaker 6: And he'll speak to the media occasionally. This is not
- 20:52Speaker 6: one of those times or hasn't been. You know, you
- 20:54Speaker 6: never know today, possibly. But David Stearns has not been
- 20:58Speaker 6: seen around the ballpark these past couple of days.
- 21:01Speaker 7: I don't blame him for that.
- 21:02Speaker 6: I can see why he's keeping a low profile. He
- 21:04Speaker 6: does address the media once a homestand, which, you know,
- 21:08Speaker 6: not many GMs do, if any others. And I'm not
- 21:12Speaker 6: sure if he's going to do that this time around.
- 21:13Speaker 6: He may wait until the end of the season and
- 21:16Speaker 6: do kind of a season wrap up this time. So
- 21:18Speaker 6: going back to Mania for a second, and I mentioned
- 21:21Speaker 6: this before, I do think the circumstances had a little
- 21:24Speaker 6: bit to do with it, just like I mentioned with
- 21:26Speaker 6: the game on the line, because I talked to Lindor
- 21:28Speaker 6: before the game, you know, but he was he's on
- 21:31Speaker 6: the verge of 300 as well. Just about, hey, you know,
- 21:34Speaker 6: would it be funny if you, you know, got there
- 21:36Speaker 6: before Pete did? And he kind of laughed a little.
- 21:39Speaker 6: And he's like, you know, I'm happy for Pete when
- 21:41Speaker 6: he gets it. I'd prefer it not to happen here.
- 21:45Speaker 6: But if it does happen here, I'd like it to
- 21:47Speaker 6: happen a solo shot when we're up 10 runs. You know,
- 21:51Speaker 6: so they didn't want that to be a factor in
- 21:54Speaker 6: what they were trying to do, which every day you
- 21:56Speaker 6: step on the field is to try to win a game.
- 21:58Speaker 6: You know, you guys know that. And I think that's
- 22:00Speaker 6: where it hurt. And these guys, despite their record, they've
- 22:04Speaker 6: done much better since the trade deadline. I think they're
- 22:06Speaker 6: about eight over 500 since then, which is pretty decent
- 22:09Speaker 6: for that stretch. So, you know, like when I said,
- 22:11Speaker 6: you know, they've been grinding. They've had a couple of
- 22:14Speaker 6: things to feel good about. A couple of young outfielders
- 22:16Speaker 6: with Carson Bench and A.J. Ewing, maybe a couple of
- 22:18Speaker 6: things to build on there. So I can understand where
- 22:21Speaker 6: the hurt feelings are. I mean, Lindor mentioned it the
- 22:24Speaker 6: other day, too, on Monday. You know, Pete got all
- 22:27Speaker 6: those ovations. Jonah Tong, a young pitcher who's trying to
- 22:29Speaker 6: make his way here, pitched his best game in the majors,
- 22:32Speaker 6: six innings, two runs. And he got booed, you know,
- 22:36Speaker 6: when Pete walked. So Lindor was like, hey, I get it.
- 22:38Speaker 6: You know, give all the love to Pete. But, you know,
- 22:41Speaker 6: our guy did pretty well, too.
- 22:43Speaker 7: So I can.
- 22:44Speaker 6: Understand why the Mets, who have been kind of fighting
- 22:47Speaker 6: for their lives all year, now are feeling underwater again.
- 22:50Speaker 6: And I understand kind of the gut reaction to that.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Yeah, they're fighting against winning. They're fighting against fans. They're
- 22:57Speaker 4: fighting against now. Cheers from fans. But here's– I need
- 23:02Speaker 4: your fan– I know you're not a fan, but I'm
- 23:04Speaker 4: saying the fans' perspective of what Pete– here's what Pete
- 23:08Speaker 4: said after the game about Mets fans not really having
- 23:11Speaker 4: a team to cheer for right now.
- 23:13Speaker 7: I know it's frowned upon or whatever, but you can
- 23:16Speaker 7: always have a second team. You can always root for
- 23:17Speaker 7: the Orioles, guys. So go O's. I mean, American League team,
- 23:22Speaker 7: you know, separate. But again, yeah, so if you want
- 23:27Speaker 7: to have a second secondary team, you can always root
- 23:29Speaker 7: for the O's.
- 23:30Speaker 4: That was before the game. Sorry, that was before the game.
- 23:33Speaker 4: What do you think the fans' reaction to that will be?
- 23:37Speaker 4: Because their beloved son, Pete Alonso, said it.
- 23:43Speaker 6: Well, I'll tell you what, as hard as it has
- 23:45Speaker 6: been for the Mets and playing in front of home
- 23:47Speaker 6: these past couple of two days, you know, Mets fans
- 23:50Speaker 6: are extremely loyal. And the reason why they feel like
- 23:53Speaker 6: they do is because they feel burned by their team.
- 23:57Speaker 6: You know, they're scorned, they're hurt, and they're kind of
- 24:00Speaker 6: lashing out in the only way they can. I know
- 24:02Speaker 6: a couple of way that people have explained it by saying, listen,
- 24:06Speaker 6: you know, I'm not going to get David Stearns and
- 24:07Speaker 6: Steve Cohen to respond to my emails. I don't have
- 24:10Speaker 6: their phone number. So what I can do is show
- 24:13Speaker 6: up at the stadium and voice my displeasure that I
- 24:16Speaker 6: don't like the way things are going. So this is
- 24:18Speaker 6: kind of their outlet. You know, are they going to
- 24:20Speaker 6: ditch the Mets to be fans of the Orioles? No,
- 24:22Speaker 6: of course not. So I think that, you know, what
- 24:25Speaker 6: they're doing here is, you know, they want better things
- 24:28Speaker 6: for their team. Clearly Pete was a part of some
- 24:32Speaker 6: tough times here too. I mean, Pete didn't win a
- 24:34Speaker 6: world series here. You know, not many Mets, not many
- 24:37Speaker 6: Mets alumni have. So, It's not like he was a
- 24:40Speaker 6: long tradition of a World Series team or even teams
- 24:43Speaker 6: that made the playoffs a lot, but they kind of
- 24:45Speaker 6: latched on to him. Polar Bear, a beloved nickname, won
- 24:49Speaker 6: a few home run derbies, just kind of a lovable guy.
- 24:52Speaker 6: He's a fan favorite and a beloved figure here. The
- 24:57Speaker 6: other part of it, too, is that they'll be back
- 25:01Speaker 6: on board when the team does turn things around. I
- 25:03Speaker 6: know things look pretty bleak at the moment, but this
- 25:07Speaker 6: was really a chance that not only to show love
- 25:10Speaker 6: for Pete, but to really kind of, you know, be heard,
- 25:14Speaker 6: to show up and say, listen, you know, you guys
- 25:17Speaker 6: got to fix this. You promised to fix this team.
- 25:19Speaker 6: You spent a ton of money to do it. And
- 25:22Speaker 6: you've left us no choice right now, but to cheer
- 25:25Speaker 6: for an opposing player, which is pretty radical. And I
- 25:28Speaker 6: think that's what Minaya was saying. That's what Craig Albernaz
- 25:32Speaker 6: was saying. You know, it was really such a strange,
- 25:37Speaker 6: unique situation that people had a hard time wrapping their
- 25:40Speaker 6: brain around it, unless you're a Mets fan and unless
- 25:44Speaker 6: you're Pete Alonso. It was really just kind of a
- 25:46Speaker 6: special affection between those two. And really, I don't think
- 25:50Speaker 6: it's too strong to stay hatred between, you know, the
- 25:53Speaker 6: architect of the team that put this together.
- 25:57Speaker 2: And by the way, this was a huge win for
- 25:59Speaker 2: the Orioles. It kept them in the wild card race.
- 26:01Speaker 2: So let's not, let's also not forget that. And you
- 26:03Speaker 2: saw that on the excitement on Pete Alonzo when he
- 26:05Speaker 2: hit the home run and threw the bat and said,
- 26:07Speaker 2: you know, some words you're not, we're not allowed to
- 26:09Speaker 2: repeat because we're on television. But I mean, there was
- 26:11Speaker 2: a lot. And then, and then, I mean, I know
- 26:13Speaker 2: it's all about Pete right now, but I mean, the
- 26:15Speaker 2: Orioles won the game. Kobe Mayo had an inside the
- 26:18Speaker 2: park home run on a ball. AJ Ewing, you can argue,
- 26:21Speaker 2: Maybe could have, should have, whatever, caught, whatever, right? But,
- 26:24Speaker 2: I mean, there are positives. I'm going to get away
- 26:26Speaker 2: from Pete. I'm sorry, David. But there are some positives
- 26:29Speaker 2: for the Mets, right? Their outfield has as bad as
- 26:31Speaker 2: first base has been. Benj and Ewing have been great
- 26:34Speaker 2: for them, right? Lindor's come back to his normal year. Obviously,
- 26:36Speaker 2: Soto is Soto. So there has been some positives for
- 26:40Speaker 2: Mets fans. They just need to find some pitching.
- 26:43Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, Bo Bichette, you know, has turned into
- 26:45Speaker 6: more of a Bo Bichette than we knew before that.
- 26:48Speaker 6: So obviously a big decision coming up with that with
- 26:50Speaker 6: his opt out situation. So, yeah, I mean, if you
- 26:53Speaker 6: watch this team for the past couple of months, I mean,
- 26:55Speaker 6: you could see some things coming together. I mean, infield wise,
- 26:59Speaker 6: aside from first base, you know, we saw like you
- 27:01Speaker 6: mentioned with Lindor, you know, he missed over two months.
- 27:04Speaker 6: with his calf strain. So it took him a while
- 27:06Speaker 6: to get back up to speed again, but defensively, he's
- 27:09Speaker 6: looking better now. He's looking more like the kind of
- 27:12Speaker 6: MVP type of Lindor, you know, seven home runs in
- 27:15Speaker 6: the past 14 games or so. So the young outfielders
- 27:18Speaker 6: look like they could be a part of this team's
- 27:20Speaker 6: core going forward. They could be two guys that could
- 27:23Speaker 6: be as beloved as Pete, maybe going forward, if they
- 27:26Speaker 6: stick around and continue to perform like they have. I
- 27:28Speaker 6: think Carson Bench in a couple of days is going
- 27:30Speaker 6: to be able to pass Pete Alonzo's rookie record for
- 27:33Speaker 6: hits in a season. So they're kind of, I'm not
- 27:36Speaker 6: going to say they're going to be the next Pete
- 27:37Speaker 6: Alonzo's in the fans' eyes, but they could work their
- 27:39Speaker 6: way to that measure. You know, some of the problem
- 27:43Speaker 6: areas for the Mets, second base, I don't think Marcus
- 27:45Speaker 6: Simeon certainly hasn't had the year he was hoping for.
- 27:48Speaker 6: The pitching staff is going to need a little renovation again. Obviously,
- 27:52Speaker 6: Tarek Skubal is going to be on the radar for
- 27:54Speaker 6: this team. That would be a quick fix. And Steve
- 27:56Speaker 6: Cohen obviously has the money to do things like that.
- 27:58Speaker 6: So there has been reasons lately to feel better about
- 28:02Speaker 6: this team, but man, guys, It took such a huge
- 28:05Speaker 6: U-turn for these past two days to all of a sudden,
- 28:09Speaker 6: you know, have Pete show up and do what he
- 28:11Speaker 6: did in that fashion, make history. You know, Alonzo hit
- 28:16Speaker 6: the bulk of those home runs at Citi Field. So
- 28:19Speaker 6: I could see fans saying, hey, we're trying to congratulate
- 28:21Speaker 6: him for what he did for us, since we saw
- 28:24Speaker 6: most of them. I mean, right off the bat last night,
- 28:27Speaker 6: and Senga went down, you know, 2-0 on the count.
- 28:29Speaker 7: It was kind of like, just.
- 28:32Speaker 6: put him on at this point because something bad is
- 28:34Speaker 6: inevitably going to happen. And of course the splitter just
- 28:37Speaker 6: didn't get far enough down the ghost fork. And we've
- 28:40Speaker 6: seen Pete do that a million times. I mean, let
- 28:42Speaker 6: 414 feet off the facade and left field. I mean,
- 28:45Speaker 6: we have, that's burned into our memories for people who
- 28:48Speaker 6: have watched him his whole career. So we kind of,
- 28:50Speaker 6: we kind of felt that one coming, not the curtain call,
- 28:53Speaker 6: but we certainly felt the, uh, the 400 foot shot on,
- 28:56Speaker 6: on its way for sure.
- 28:58Speaker 2: By the way, David, the third coolest 300th homer I've
- 29:01Speaker 2: ever seen in my life because Paul Canerco and Jermaine
- 29:03Speaker 2: Dye did a back-to-back one time when I was on deck.
- 29:05Speaker 2: So not taking anything away from Pete, but the third
- 29:08Speaker 2: coolest 300th homer I've ever seen. It would have been
- 29:11Speaker 2: cool if Frankie would have hit it in the same
- 29:13Speaker 2: game and one did it in the top, one did
- 29:15Speaker 2: it in the bottom. But it was an awesome moment.
- 29:18Speaker 2: And the one thing that I also want to say is, like,
- 29:22Speaker 2: as far as the hate for Stearns, the Mets fans
- 29:24Speaker 2: also look at Freddy Peralta and say, man– The Rays
- 29:27Speaker 2: got him. He had a couple of bad starts. They
- 29:29Speaker 2: literally tweaked like the smallest thing in his delivery. And
- 29:32Speaker 2: now Freddie Peralta is back to the Freddie Peralta he
- 29:34Speaker 2: was in Milwaukee. Yeah.
- 29:37Speaker 6: I mean, you kind of saw that coming too, right?
- 29:39Speaker 7: I mean, the Rays.
- 29:40Speaker 6: Just love to get their hands on a pitcher like that.
- 29:42Speaker 6: A guy that obviously has the ability to be a
- 29:45Speaker 6: front of the rotation guy again, and obviously a distressed
- 29:49Speaker 6: asset at that point. I think just with, with Freddie,
- 29:53Speaker 6: I think when, when things started to go south for
- 29:55Speaker 6: a little hit for him and flushing, and we've seen
- 29:57Speaker 6: it a million times, guys, it's tough to pull yourself
- 30:00Speaker 6: back up, you know, when the building's going against you,
- 30:04Speaker 6: when you're 10 games under in the standings. So I
- 30:07Speaker 6: think that's what Peralta ran into. Once he got into
- 30:09Speaker 6: a change of scenery, he got knocked around, I think,
- 30:11Speaker 6: in his first couple starts in Tampa Bay. But once
- 30:14Speaker 6: they had a chance to work with him, now he's
- 30:17Speaker 6: turned into the pitcher that they were hoping for, and
- 30:19Speaker 6: really what the Mets were hoping for when they first
- 30:21Speaker 6: got him. And we thought that was a great trade
- 30:23Speaker 6: when they traded for Peralta when it turned out to,
- 30:25Speaker 6: you know, not work out for the Mets. They traded
- 30:28Speaker 6: Clay Holmes. He's done a great job for the Cubs.
- 30:30Speaker 6: Even David Peterson, who they ditched really early. He's had
- 30:33Speaker 6: a couple of tough starts for the Cubs, but he
- 30:35Speaker 6: kind of saved the Cubs when they were really going
- 30:37Speaker 6: through their tough stretch when the rotation was decimated. So
- 30:40Speaker 6: there's a couple of Mets pitchers performing well elsewhere at
- 30:42Speaker 6: this point. But I will say one thing I've learned
- 30:45Speaker 6: being around the Mets for a long time, and there
- 30:47Speaker 6: has been some outliers here. They're really skilled at worst
- 30:51Speaker 6: case scenario. And I think that's what we saw yesterday.
- 30:54Speaker 6: the past couple days at Citi Field, the worst possible
- 30:59Speaker 6: thing that could have happened with Pete happened, and I
- 31:02Speaker 6: think that's what really kind of sent them reeling the
- 31:04Speaker 6: other night.
- 31:05Speaker 2: By the way, can I give their kudos to the
- 31:07Speaker 2: Mets broadcast crew? I'm sure you were– I don't know
- 31:10Speaker 2: if you were listening to it, but Keith and Ron and– Jesus, Gary. Literally,
- 31:15Speaker 2: I'm watching this game, and I'm watching because it's the
- 31:17Speaker 2: ninth inning, and they said when it got to 2-0,
- 31:21Speaker 2: they're like, just throw him four splits in the dirt,
- 31:23Speaker 2: don't throw him one he can reach. And I'm telling you,
- 31:25Speaker 2: the next pitch was the one he– it was like
- 31:27Speaker 2: they knew what was going to happen. And like you said,
- 31:30Speaker 2: it was unbelievable. They literally said, just throw him four splits,
- 31:32Speaker 2: put him on first. He's not going to steal second, right?
- 31:35Speaker 2: He's going to take three hits to score him. And whammy,
- 31:38Speaker 2: he throws the one he can reach. And it was
- 31:40Speaker 2: like Nostradamus out there. It was unbelievable.
- 31:44Speaker 4: They nailed it.
- 31:45Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, you just saw that coming. I mean,
- 31:47Speaker 6: once you're down 2-0, Just put him on. I mean,
- 31:49Speaker 6: he's not going to steal a base and get himself
- 31:52Speaker 6: into scoring position. So, yeah, you know, listen, it didn't
- 31:56Speaker 6: work out great for the Mets. You know, Minaya actually
- 31:58Speaker 6: voiced his displeasure about it. But that's what the Mets
- 32:01Speaker 6: fans came to see, right? That's what they paid to
- 32:03Speaker 6: park their cars for. That's the ticket they bought. They
- 32:06Speaker 6: wanted to see Pete hit number 300. Unfortunately for the Mets,
- 32:10Speaker 6: it happened in a situation where it wound up costing
- 32:12Speaker 6: them the game. So win for Pete, loss for the Mets.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Yeah, and huge win for Mets fans. I mean, that
- 32:20Speaker 3: was fun.
- 32:20Speaker 1: That was entertaining. And that is the ultimate peaceful protest
- 32:24Speaker 1: to show how you're feeling. Perfectly stated. Great to have
- 32:27Speaker 1: you on. Really enjoyed the conversation, David. Check out all
- 32:30Speaker 1: of David's work in Newsday and give him a follow
- 32:32Speaker 1: on X, Twitter, whatever.
- 32:33Speaker 3: David, thanks, man. Hope you had fun.
- 32:36Speaker 7: Yeah, my pleasure, guys. I had a great time.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Here we go. SeatGeek looking ahead.
- 32:42Speaker 1: This is how we look at matchups that you need
- 32:44Speaker 1: to grab a seat for on SeatGeek. When you buy
- 32:46Speaker 1: your seat, you get it right away. It's the official
- 32:48Speaker 1: ticket marketplace of MLB. And what do we have this weekend?
- 32:52Speaker 1: It's time to look at this weekend at this point.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Blue Jays, Rangers, anyone? Pretty big deal. Life support.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Toronto. Toronto got whooped yesterday.
- 33:04Speaker 2: They looked awful. They didn't play well.
- 33:07Speaker 4: You think they're cooked?
- 33:08Speaker 3: They have the tiebreaker over Cleveland, by the way.
- 33:11Speaker 4: The Blue Jays?
- 33:13Speaker 3: Yep.
- 33:13Speaker 4: Who cares? They're playing the Tigers and they're not winning.
- 33:17Speaker 2: No.
- 33:17Speaker 4: You know what's a sneaky, sneaky game? I think it's
- 33:21Speaker 4: actually a Fox game starting up, but you go to
- 33:24Speaker 4: the Phillies-Mets this weekend. Guess who wants the Phillies to lose?
- 33:28Speaker 4: Every Mets fan ever. Guess who wants the Mets to lose?
- 33:31Speaker 4: Every Phillies fan ever. And they're playing this weekend. I
- 33:35Speaker 4: think it's a four-game set. So you got a shot at...
- 33:38Speaker 4: You got a shot at knocking your rival team out
- 33:42Speaker 4: of the playoffs and their pitching staff, which has been
- 33:45Speaker 4: their superpower, not really doing it. Jesus Lizardo was their best, IL.
- 33:53Speaker 4: Wheeler goes tonight, so you don't have them to face
- 33:55Speaker 4: the Mets. Nola's stepped up and done really well. Sanchez
- 34:00Speaker 4: has given up back-to-back games where over four runs, like
- 34:06Speaker 4: The Phillies are reeling a little bit, and you have
- 34:08Speaker 4: a chance to put them away if you're the Mets.
- 34:11Speaker 2: By the way, there's a couple good series, by the way. Braves, Astros,
- 34:16Speaker 2: big series. Speaking of playoff, and Yankees at Diamondbacks. That
- 34:21Speaker 2: could end revenge for 2001 if you're a Yankees fan.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Get them back for Luis Gonzalez.
- 34:28Speaker 4: Half the team hasn't even been born. But who would
- 34:31Speaker 4: have thought Yankees, Diamondbacks, at the end of September would
- 34:35Speaker 4: have been one that I want to go and watch.
- 34:36Speaker 4: But absolutely. Like, it's totally there.
- 34:40Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 34:41Speaker 3: That one's a vibe.
- 34:42Speaker 1: By the way, you know how the Marlins often are just, like,
- 34:45Speaker 1: not quite there, but they're okay, and then they're pesky,
- 34:47Speaker 1: and then they ruin seasons for other NL East teams?
- 34:50Speaker 1: That's what the Mets have the opportunity to do. Not
- 34:53Speaker 1: ruin it, because the Phillies falling completely out would be
- 34:56Speaker 1: pretty crazy, but They completely.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Ruined the Orioles season yesterday. They completely ruined the Orioles season.
- 35:01Speaker 4: Just saying.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Completely ruined Pete Alonzo's. They didn't ruin Pete Alonzo's season
- 35:06Speaker 2: at all.
- 35:07Speaker 3: They made his life. That's one you'll never forget.
- 35:10Speaker 1: If you're just joining us, by the way, we spent
- 35:12Speaker 1: plenty of time on it at the top of the show.
- 35:14Speaker 3: But let's talk.
- 35:15Speaker 1: SeatGeek for a moment here. Territory 10 is the code. 10%
- 35:19Speaker 1: off MLB tickets at SeatGeek. You can start looking at
- 35:22Speaker 1: playoff tickets, too, if your team's in it. 10% off
- 35:26Speaker 1: promo code Territory10. Link's in the description. Download it if
- 35:30Speaker 1: you don't have it. Use the code now. Use the
- 35:32Speaker 1: code later. Thank you to SeatGeek. We'll talk about the Brewers.
- 35:36Speaker 3: Clinching the NL Central coming up next. Here we go.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Brewer territory is pumped. They did a live show actually
- 35:44Speaker 1: last night after they clinched the division. It's four straight
- 35:48Speaker 1: division titles. And you can keep stretching it out. It's
- 35:50Speaker 1: like five of six and six of eight and all that.
- 35:52Speaker 1: I mean, this team has really dominated the regular season
- 35:56Speaker 1: in the National League Central for the past decade. AJ
- 35:59Speaker 1: and the brand of baseball that they've been doing over
- 36:02Speaker 1: the last few years, especially with Pat Murphy is really different.
- 36:05Speaker 1: And Murph talked about that post game and in the
- 36:08Speaker 1: celebration with his team, kind of like keep doing you.
- 36:11Speaker 3: It's very different.
- 36:13Speaker 2: College style. Don't say that to Murph. Cause Murph will
- 36:15Speaker 2: get super angry if you say that to Murph. But
- 36:18Speaker 2: I love it.
- 36:19Speaker 4: I think it's awesome.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I think what Pat Murphy has done is awesome. And they,
- 36:24Speaker 2: people should study it really for the way he handles things,
- 36:26Speaker 2: the way he talks about to players and, The way
- 36:28Speaker 2: he treats people, it's awesome. And everyone thought, oh, they
- 36:32Speaker 2: lost Craig Council. Oh, no, they're not going to be
- 36:36Speaker 2: able to keep doing this. They kept doing it with
- 36:37Speaker 2: Matt Arnold. They lost David Stearns. Matt Arnold steps in, right?
- 36:41Speaker 2: What's been one constant has been Christian Yelich there for
- 36:43Speaker 2: most of it. So maybe he deserves some really credit.
- 36:45Speaker 2: If you ask Murph, he'll tell you how much credit
- 36:47Speaker 2: he deserves for being a leader on this team. It's awesome. Congratulations, Brewers.
- 36:51Speaker 2: I just really hope you get to the World Series once.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Just please, because these fans are unbelievable. I want to
- 36:56Speaker 2: see Bernie Brewer slide down the slide, and I want
- 36:58Speaker 2: to see the sausage races at the World Series, all
- 37:00Speaker 2: that fun stuff. But they've got to get to the
- 37:02Speaker 2: next level, which is the World Series.
- 37:06Speaker 4: Milwaukee will be flooded with tears if the Brewers make
- 37:10Speaker 4: it to the World Series. They have become like– they've
- 37:14Speaker 4: become just– Constantly just, oh, okay, we didn't quite make it.
- 37:20Speaker 4: Didn't quite make it. I think this is the year.
- 37:23Speaker 4: And yes, Christian Yelich has been there since 18. Him
- 37:26Speaker 4: and Big Wu, we played together that year. And he
- 37:29Speaker 4: is that guy that I think makes that locker room
- 37:32Speaker 4: understand you got to go out every single night and
- 37:36Speaker 4: ball out no matter how your cuerpo feels, no matter
- 37:39Speaker 4: how your body feels. The fact that he's got a
- 37:41Speaker 4: picture right here that we're looking at, Christian Yelich, and Vogue, Vogelbach,
- 37:48Speaker 4: his ex-teammate who hit a couple of big homers during
- 37:50Speaker 4: some of those runs. That's hilarious.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Wait, keep that up for one sec. Clint, go back
- 37:55Speaker 1: to it. I want to finish the segment with that.
- 37:57Speaker 1: So Christian Yelich, who's making a lot of money, right?
- 37:59Speaker 1: His contract's over, I think, 200 mil when they re-signed him?
- 38:02Speaker 3: Yep.
- 38:03Speaker 1: This is the smallest market in baseball. Christian Yelich era.
- 38:09Speaker 1: And he's had his ups and downs, but man, he's
- 38:10Speaker 1: had some good spots for them. And also just as
- 38:12Speaker 1: a team leader. Nine seasons, eight postseason appearances, six NL
- 38:17Speaker 1: Central titles. They've got a four-peat going right now. I mean,
- 38:20Speaker 1: second most wins in the National League. This is a
- 38:23Speaker 1: successful franchise. Can they figure it out in the playoffs?
- 38:26Speaker 3: Good stuff.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Congrats to the Brewers. Hey, the Dodgers beat the Reds
- 38:33Speaker 1: behind Yamamoto. Seven innings, one hit, walks, seven Ks, no
- 38:37Speaker 1: runs in that one. So he's getting himself ready for
- 38:39Speaker 1: another October. An amazing, amazing individual and also what he
- 38:42Speaker 1: did last year in October. So get ready in case
- 38:44Speaker 1: he's needed on like no rest. I'm sure he'll be okay.
- 38:48Speaker 1: We've reached that point in the season two, Kratz, where
- 38:51Speaker 1: we're going to have divisions getting wrapped up. Either a
- 38:54Speaker 1: win today for the Dodgers or if the Padres lose,
- 38:57Speaker 1: then the Dodgers get their 13th division title in wrapped
- 39:00Speaker 1: up in the last 14 years.
- 39:03Speaker 4: I've been on both sides where you win and you
- 39:05Speaker 4: celebrate or you stand there and you watch and you celebrate.
- 39:10Speaker 4: Both are fun, but it's way better for the Dodgers
- 39:12Speaker 4: to clinch on the field, win it, not have to
- 39:15Speaker 4: go and watch, see if the Padres can eke out
- 39:18Speaker 4: a win or if they're losing or they're winning and
- 39:21Speaker 4: then you go home, you don't celebrate, hope they clinch it.
- 39:24Speaker 4: But 13 out of 14, that's impressive.
- 39:27Speaker 1: It is.
- 39:28Speaker 4: It is.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Not quite the Braves where the Braves win 14 in
- 39:31Speaker 2: a row, division titles in a row. You want to
- 39:33Speaker 2: know the difference?
- 39:33Speaker 3: What?
- 39:34Speaker 2: You want to know the difference? The Dodgers have three
- 39:37Speaker 2: World Series. The Braves had one in all that time.
- 39:39Speaker 2: That's what's unbelievable.
- 39:42Speaker 4: It's crazy.
- 39:43Speaker 3: Yeah, very similar.
- 39:45Speaker 4: If you make it 14 times, you would think it
- 39:48Speaker 4: would be more than three, which is still way better
- 39:51Speaker 4: than one that the Braves got. It shows how hard
- 39:55Speaker 4: it is. It has nothing to do with all the
- 39:58Speaker 4: other crap that people talk about. It's hard to win
- 40:01Speaker 4: a World Series.
- 40:02Speaker 2: You play to win a game.
- 40:04Speaker 3: Very similar, though. You're right.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Very similar amount of cracks during a long time period,
- 40:09Speaker 1: a decade and a half for both sides. Sometimes the
- 40:12Speaker 1: Dodgers had to play a wild card round where We
- 40:15Speaker 1: didn't have that when the Braves had their run. Hey,
- 40:18Speaker 1: we've barely talked about the Nationals in the last month
- 40:20Speaker 1: and a half since they fell off. They also sold
- 40:23Speaker 1: at the deadline, but Spencer Nussbaum, who is part of
- 40:26Speaker 1: our district territory crew and also writes for The Athletic,
- 40:28Speaker 1: put in his latest article how much improvement we've seen
- 40:32Speaker 1: from the Nationals' farm system.
- 40:33Speaker 3: I mean, look at this, Kratz.
- 40:34Speaker 1: The winning percentage of the minor league squads went up
- 40:37Speaker 1: a ton. I know that's not everything, but home run
- 40:39Speaker 1: rate up a ton. Walk to strikeout, still pretty similar.
- 40:43Speaker 1: Weighted runs created plus, so ballpark adjusted offense, strikeout rate
- 40:47Speaker 1: up big. They need to fix the pitching, right? I mean,
- 40:49Speaker 1: the offense actually has been amazing in terms of development
- 40:53Speaker 1: with some of their players at the major league level.
- 40:55Speaker 1: They need to fix the pitching. Look at the bottom
- 40:57Speaker 1: section there. ERA pitching 19th and 25 to first in 2026.
- 41:01Speaker 1: So they scrapped things and started a new plan with
- 41:05Speaker 1: their pitching program. And at least in the minor league level,
- 41:07Speaker 1: it looks like it's working.
- 41:09Speaker 4: I heard the minor league level, it was, there was
- 41:13Speaker 4: so much low hanging fruit For the people who were
- 41:16Speaker 4: making the new decisions that it wasn't like this. Whoa,
- 41:20Speaker 4: what an amazing, you know, break it all down. They
- 41:23Speaker 4: just were like, wait, you guys don't do this. You
- 41:26Speaker 4: guys don't have that. Like, what are, are we serious?
- 41:30Speaker 4: Like this is super low hanging fruit and it's, they've,
- 41:33Speaker 4: they've seen huge dividends from it.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Do you know why?
- 41:37Speaker 4: Do I know why they didn't have that stuff? Yeah.
- 41:42Speaker 4: Probably because the other regime didn't want it. Or ownership
- 41:46Speaker 4: wouldn't buy it?
- 41:47Speaker 2: No, Rizzo said. Rizzo said they wouldn't buy it for him.
- 41:50Speaker 2: He said they wouldn't give it to him.
- 41:51Speaker 1: These front offices, most of them use the same stuff.
- 41:55Speaker 1: And then when they pitch it to their ownership group
- 41:57Speaker 1: for budget, they either get a yes or a no.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Mike was pretty adamant that he was getting a no
- 42:02Speaker 1: for a long time. Then they scrap him, right? They
- 42:04Speaker 1: hire someone else who says we have to have this.
- 42:06Speaker 1: And then they're like, cool, we'll give you your toys. No,
- 42:10Speaker 1: we didn't plan this. And also, no, Kratz, we're not
- 42:13Speaker 1: wearing the same exact Mack Weldon shirts. I've got a
- 42:15Speaker 1: green and you've got the heather blue.
- 42:19Speaker 3: I do.
- 42:19Speaker 4: I do. And the whole array of colors. There's so
- 42:23Speaker 4: many to choose from with Mack Weldon. And not just
- 42:25Speaker 4: in your shirts. In everything that you get.

- 43:15Speaker 1: Corner presented by Fox One. You're going to be able
- 43:18Speaker 1: to see the Astros and the Royals on Thursday on
- 43:20Speaker 1: the Fox One app. That's AJ's game. Hey, there's a
- 43:23Speaker 1: lot going on with the Astros, AJ. First off, they
- 43:27Speaker 1: need to win games because Texas is still chasing them hard.
- 43:31Speaker 1: And they did that. Hunter Brown did his thing. It
- 43:34Speaker 1: was the Jordan Alvarez, Jeremy Pena show. No one else
- 43:37Speaker 1: drove in a run. No one else even had a
- 43:38Speaker 1: hit on the team. They also learned before the game
- 43:42Speaker 1: that Carlos Correa won't be back. So he was trying
- 43:45Speaker 1: to rush himself through and play some second base, maybe
- 43:48Speaker 1: in addition to third, and it's not going to happen,
- 43:50Speaker 1: but they've gotten this far without him.
- 43:52Speaker 3: They'll be okay.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, this is, this is not something that
- 43:55Speaker 2: was unexpected. He had surgery on his left ankle. He
- 43:58Speaker 2: was trying to rush it back. It didn't work out,
- 44:01Speaker 2: but I mean, yeah, would it have been nice to
- 44:04Speaker 2: have Carlos Correa?
- 44:05Speaker 4: Sure.
- 44:05Speaker 2: But it wasn't something they were counting on. So I think,
- 44:08Speaker 2: I think the bigger story is Hunter Brown pitched really
- 44:10Speaker 2: well last night and and kind of looked like Hunter
- 44:12Speaker 2: Brown of old. And they need him. He's way more
- 44:15Speaker 2: important to them than Carlos Correa trying to come back
- 44:18Speaker 2: and be injured. Not that Carlos Correa is a bad
- 44:19Speaker 2: player in any means, but with what they have right now.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Because as a player and as a coaching staff, you
- 44:24Speaker 2: always focus on who's on the team that day. You're like, oh, yeah,
- 44:28Speaker 2: it'd be great if Carlos comes back. But you never
- 44:30Speaker 2: want to get your hopes too high because then if
- 44:32Speaker 2: something like happens, then you're kind of like, ah, I
- 44:34Speaker 2: wasted my energy thinking about that.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Did you see with Brown Kratz, he's got a new slider,
- 44:40Speaker 1: a mid-September slider change.
- 44:41Speaker 3: Did you see this? Let's run it.
- 44:43Speaker 1: So Brian McTaggart with the tweet, and this is the
- 44:46Speaker 1: quote from Brown on his new slider, which he unleashed
- 44:50Speaker 1: in the game last night.
- 44:52Speaker 3: I got a new one, Stromy. That's Brad Strom.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Long time pitching whiz in the game. Taught me that one,
- 44:58Speaker 1: and it was pretty good. He told me I've got
- 45:00Speaker 1: to think of a name for it. Kind of brought
- 45:02Speaker 1: out the cutter again and then started throwing this downer
- 45:05Speaker 1: slider thing, half curveball.
- 45:09Speaker 4: I mean, Brent Strom, yes, he's been known to make
- 45:13Speaker 4: some significant changes with pitchers. Not all just on pitches.
- 45:17Speaker 4: Maybe the grip of your pitches, too, helped. But look,
- 45:21Speaker 4: this is why teams should bring in consultants or halftime
- 45:25Speaker 4: pitching coaches like Brent Strom is. I think it's just
- 45:29Speaker 4: been for half the year, too. But pitchers are always tinkering.
- 45:33Speaker 4: They're always, I even think some hitters, not some, a
- 45:37Speaker 4: decent amount of hitters tinker. and they think there's just
- 45:40Speaker 4: this massive, massive change, if you go out with a
- 45:43Speaker 4: new pitch or a new swing and you have success immediately, yeah,
- 45:48Speaker 4: it's my new pitch. I love this. Why? Because I
- 45:51Speaker 4: did good. So good for him, but this team needs
- 45:56Speaker 4: him desperately. I don't know if there's a pitcher on
- 46:00Speaker 4: any team besides maybe like a Miz who that if
- 46:05Speaker 4: they're going to make the playoffs and have any success,
- 46:07Speaker 4: the team needs more than Hunter Brown. I think Hunter
- 46:11Speaker 4: Brown even more than any other team.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Yeah, because it's been a bad season on the pitching
- 46:16Speaker 1: front for the Astros, right? They are very top-heavy on
- 46:19Speaker 1: that front, and Hunter Brown is part of that. Of course,
- 46:21Speaker 1: Josh Hader is part of that, right? There's a few
- 46:24Speaker 1: guys that can shut down anyone, AJ, but you don't
- 46:26Speaker 1: feel great when it gets lengthy for them.
- 46:29Speaker 2: No, you don't, because after After Hunter Brown, you're going,
- 46:34Speaker 2: who's going to give us five innings? Because right now
- 46:36Speaker 2: the Astros are five innings. That's why their bullpen has
- 46:38Speaker 2: kind of started to wear out because a lot of
- 46:40Speaker 2: those guys, Sousa and Blue Ball and some of those
- 46:42Speaker 2: guys have really started to have to pitch so many innings.
- 46:45Speaker 2: Abreu is even starting to wear out after all this time. So, yeah,
- 46:48Speaker 2: they need a guy that they can count on in
- 46:49Speaker 2: game one if they get there to give them five, six,
- 46:52Speaker 2: seven innings.
- 46:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, Christian Javier pitching better lately. So maybe
- 46:58Speaker 1: he kind of reemerges, right?
- 47:01Speaker 4: Five innings.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Yeah, five innings.
- 47:04Speaker 1: I mean, Hayden Wesneski's pitched pretty well for them in
- 47:08Speaker 1: the second half. Lambert was good for them eating innings,
- 47:11Speaker 1: but then has had his struggles more lately. So there's names,
- 47:15Speaker 1: but yeah, nobody you feel like, all right, here we go,
- 47:17Speaker 1: game two, run it, baby.
- 47:19Speaker 2: Yeah, agree.
- 47:22Speaker 3: Agree.
- 47:23Speaker 4: And that's what you're fighting for right now to get– now,
- 47:26Speaker 4: they'll get in. If Jordan does what he did last night,
- 47:30Speaker 4: if Jordan comes back from this month-and-a-half slump, malaise that
- 47:35Speaker 4: he's been in, if he can carry this team offensively,
- 47:39Speaker 4: they'll get in. Make it to the playoffs, sorry, teams
- 47:42Speaker 4: are just going to be like, eh, I'm good. We're
- 47:46Speaker 4: just not going to let Jordan beat us. There's not
- 47:48Speaker 4: going to be, well, we'll try to go after him.
- 47:50Speaker 4: It's just not like that's not how the playoffs work.
- 47:54Speaker 3: Yeah, you have some streaky guys.
- 47:55Speaker 1: We were just looking at the OPS leaders, of course.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Alvarez way in front of anyone else on his team,
- 48:01Speaker 1: well above 1,000. But Paredes, Christian Walker, Dalton Barshow, all
- 48:07Speaker 1: streaky dudes.
- 48:09Speaker 4: Peña.
- 48:11Speaker 2: They've had some dudes that have had some decent years, though.
- 48:13Speaker 4: That's offensively.
- 48:14Speaker 2: I mean, Christian Walker has kind of bounced back. Alvarez, obviously,
- 48:18Speaker 2: when Peña' s been on the field, he's been pretty good.
- 48:21Speaker 2: Altuve's not as good as he once was, but he's
- 48:24Speaker 2: still a solid player.
- 48:27Speaker 3: Yep, I agree.
- 48:28Speaker 1: No, offense hasn't been the problem. I mean, offense knows
- 48:31Speaker 1: the drill. They know the task at hand each evening.
- 48:35Speaker 1: You have one of the worst team ERAs. Go get them, boys.
- 48:39Speaker 3: Go score six. Right now they're hanging on.
- 48:41Speaker 4: Score till the ninth and once Hunter Brown's out of
- 48:44Speaker 4: the game. Yep, right.
- 48:46Speaker 3: Haters got your back.
- 48:47Speaker 1: All right, so you're going to be able to see
- 48:49Speaker 1: the Astros and the Royals on Thursday with AJ. Who
- 48:54Speaker 1: else do you have on there, AJ? Who are you
- 48:55Speaker 1: working with?
- 48:56Speaker 2: I believe it's Adam Amin, Mr. Amin and myself.
- 48:59Speaker 3: Ah, nice. DJ Adam Amin, spin it.
- 49:01Speaker 4: DJ Adam Amin.
- 49:03Speaker 3: That's right.
- 49:03Speaker 1: Phillies and Mets will also be on the Fox One
- 49:05Speaker 1: app on Thursday. So if you're looking for those games,
- 49:08Speaker 1: go get them and never miss a moment.
- 49:10Speaker 3: Stream now.
- 49:10Speaker 1: Start your Fox One three-day free trial today at foxone.com.
- 49:10Speaker 1: Is the NL.
- 49:21Speaker 3: Wildcard okay?
- 49:22Speaker 1: I feel like we spend so much time crapping on
- 49:26Speaker 1: the American League side, but all of the teams lost
- 49:29Speaker 1: last night.
- 49:30Speaker 3: I know it's just one night, but.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Do we feel, Kratz, as if anything could be shaken
- 49:35Speaker 1: up over the next 10 days or so?
- 49:38Speaker 3: This is the current picture.
- 49:39Speaker 1: This is the bracket that MLB has birthed us from
- 49:45Speaker 1: a few years ago. And now that we used to
- 49:47Speaker 1: paint the playoff picture nice and simply. Let's look at
- 49:51Speaker 1: the right side, please. So we have the Padres and
- 49:55Speaker 1: the Braves scheduled to match up. And the Padres are
- 49:57Speaker 1: still clear of the Diamondbacks with a tough loss in
- 50:00Speaker 1: extras yesterday. Estuary Ruiz, who's not much of a bat,
- 50:03Speaker 1: cleared the bases yesterday. And the D-backs are still two
- 50:07Speaker 1: and a half back of San Diego. They would face
- 50:09Speaker 1: the Braves. The Padres would. Winner of that one faces Dodgers.
- 50:13Speaker 1: Phillies and Cubs would match up. And then the winner
- 50:15Speaker 1: of that one would go up against Milwaukee. And we're
- 50:18Speaker 1: also still trying to find out, Kratz, if it'll be
- 50:21Speaker 1: Philly or Chicago that will be hosting that game too, right?
- 50:25Speaker 1: And it's a game and a half lead for Chicago
- 50:28Speaker 1: over Philly. So they've got the.
- 50:29Speaker 3: Home game right now.
- 50:30Speaker 1: Phillies are only up a game over San Diego. So
- 50:34Speaker 1: that could actually start to switch what this bracket looks like.
- 50:38Speaker 4: That's the part that could switch. And as a fan,
- 50:40Speaker 4: you're like, who would you rather face? Do you want
- 50:43Speaker 4: to face the Cubs in the first round on the road?
- 50:46Speaker 4: They could possibly play the Padres on the road in
- 50:49Speaker 4: San Diego. Nobody, in my opinion, nobody wants to play
- 50:53Speaker 4: the Padres on the road in a three game series
- 50:56Speaker 4: where you had to play all three at home. That
- 50:58Speaker 4: would be a tough environment for anybody. If it stays
- 51:01Speaker 4: like it is, I think it'll be a good series.
- 51:04Speaker 4: But then you're also like, OK, do you want to
- 51:06Speaker 4: play the Braves first and then take on the Dodgers
- 51:09Speaker 4: right away? That's a tough road. The Brewers are the
- 51:12Speaker 4: best team in the National League, in my opinion. So
- 51:14Speaker 4: is that the tough road? This could all definitely change.
- 51:17Speaker 4: I feel like I can say the Diamondbacks are kind
- 51:22Speaker 4: of on the outside looking in. And the fact that,
- 51:24Speaker 4: you know, is the National League wildcard OK? Well, the
- 51:27Speaker 4: fact that the three teams lost to two of them,
- 51:31Speaker 4: lost to Pretty crappy teams. Actually, three teams because there's
- 51:35Speaker 4: four available. The Cubs, you know, they lost to the Braves.
- 51:39Speaker 4: That was a good game by the Braves. Three two-run homers.
- 51:42Speaker 4: But you had the Phillies losing to the Nats when
- 51:45Speaker 4: they were tied and they were going to the bullpen,
- 51:47Speaker 4: which is like, okay, well, it's the Nats' turn to
- 51:49Speaker 4: blow this game. And it was subsequently the Phillies' turn
- 51:52Speaker 4: to blow the game. And then you had the Diamondbacks
- 51:55Speaker 4: losing to the Marlins, who aren't awful, but they are
- 51:59Speaker 4: what they are. And then the Padres, how– You can't
- 52:03Speaker 4: lose games that are supposed to be wins for those teams.
- 52:07Speaker 4: So in my opinion, yes, this is going to shake
- 52:10Speaker 4: up around a little bit. I think the Phillies could
- 52:16Speaker 4: possibly be the sixth seed. Just how the season's going,
- 52:20Speaker 4: just how they were hot, now they're not, just how
- 52:24Speaker 4: it's kind of going out. And if they're the sixth seed,
- 52:26Speaker 4: they have to play Atlanta, and that will be a–
- 52:30Speaker 4: Drag them out, knock them out, whatever the saying is,
- 52:33Speaker 4: fight the whole three games.
- 52:36Speaker 3: Yeah, and that would, of course, be in Atlanta.
- 52:39Speaker 1: The Phillies do have the tiebreaker over the Padres, so
- 52:42Speaker 1: that helps.
- 52:43Speaker 4: And the Cubs have it over the Padres, too.
- 52:45Speaker 2: Everyone has it over the Padres, apparently.
- 52:48Speaker 1: Well, the Diamondbacks and the Padres are hot. Diamondbacks are
- 52:52Speaker 1: definitely on the outside looking in. They still have a
- 52:54Speaker 1: sliver of a chance. They're two and a half games back.
- 52:58Speaker 3: So what is it?
- 52:58Speaker 1: Most likely a day two in the last column.
- 53:01Speaker 3: I don't have that part.
- 53:02Speaker 2: In front of me. Yeah. I think it's two or
- 53:03Speaker 2: three in the last column. Yeah.
- 53:04Speaker 3: Okay.
- 53:05Speaker 4: Either way.
- 53:05Speaker 3: So look, my thing is lost column. Oh, it's three
- 53:09Speaker 3: in the last column.
- 53:10Speaker 2: And if, and if San Diego wins one game, I
- 53:12Speaker 2: think they win the season series. So it's really four games.
- 53:17Speaker 3: I thought I had the season series as tied.
- 53:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:21Speaker 2: Oh, is it tied? Oh, but the last series, don't
- 53:23Speaker 2: forget is San Diego at San Diego.
- 53:26Speaker 3: Correct.
- 53:27Speaker 1: I mean, I think there's a chance the Diamondbacks end
- 53:30Speaker 1: up three out heading to San.
- 53:32Speaker 3: Diego where they have to sweep them in San Diego.
- 53:36Speaker 1: And that would be a four-game swing kind of, right?
- 53:40Speaker 1: Because you'd be three back, then you'd tie them, and
- 53:42Speaker 1: then you'd win the season series based on that series.
- 53:45Speaker 1: So you're hoping if you're– I mean, think about it.
- 53:48Speaker 1: If you're two back, does it even make a difference, right?
- 53:52Speaker 3: So if you're two back– You still got to win
- 53:54Speaker 3: all three.
- 53:55Speaker 2: You still have to sweep them.
- 53:56Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:57Speaker 4: We don't know what the tiebreaker is between them two.
- 54:01Speaker 4: You know who's cheering for that? You know who's cheering
- 54:03Speaker 4: for that series meaning something? Every other team in the
- 54:06Speaker 4: National League because what are the Padres really good at?
- 54:09Speaker 4: Because I think it will end up being the Padres
- 54:11Speaker 4: that get in. What are the Padres? The bullpen. You
- 54:14Speaker 4: watch a Padres game. All they talk about, these dudes
- 54:18Speaker 4: are gassed. Like how are they going to get them
- 54:20Speaker 4: a break? Mason Miller's off. They have a lot of depth.
- 54:24Speaker 4: but they are gassed, and they have their top three guys,
- 54:28Speaker 4: and it is that time of year. If you go
- 54:31Speaker 4: into that series and you're only up a game, you're
- 54:33Speaker 4: only up two games, you have to play those three
- 54:36Speaker 4: games like it's a playoffs, and then you get one
- 54:40Speaker 4: day off, and then the boys roll back out three
- 54:43Speaker 4: days straight.
- 54:46Speaker 3: Adrian Morejon.
- 54:48Speaker 1: Have you seen him in innings? He's up to, what
- 54:51Speaker 1: is he? I know he passed 80 already. 81 and
- 54:55Speaker 1: two-thirds innings.
- 54:58Speaker 2: He's a free agent. He's a reliever.
- 55:00Speaker 3: And a free agent coming up.
- 55:01Speaker 1: Yeah, they're getting their money's worth out of the last
- 55:03Speaker 1: season of Adrian Moriarty.
- 55:05Speaker 2: Much like the Astros have done to Brian Abreu.
- 55:09Speaker 3: Mm-hmm. True, true.
- 55:11Speaker 4: I didn't even think about that. You'd think Craig Stammen
- 55:13Speaker 4: would be different. You'd think Craig Stammen would figure out
- 55:16Speaker 4: a different way, and he's like, there's no other way.
- 55:20Speaker 4: You wear it or you get cut.
- 55:23Speaker 2: And he's been pitching really good, so they want him
- 55:25Speaker 2: out there as much as possible. By the way, I'll
- 55:27Speaker 2: tell you what I'm rooting for right now. We've already
- 55:29Speaker 2: discussed this.
- 55:30Speaker 4: I'm sorry.
- 55:30Speaker 2: I'm biased. Call me crazy, but I'm rooting for Milwaukee
- 55:32Speaker 2: Cubs so I don't have to get on an airplane.
- 55:34Speaker 2: I can just drive back.
- 55:35Speaker 3: And forth, back and forth, back and forth. Everyone's really
- 55:37Speaker 3: worried about your travel schedule.
- 55:39Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 55:40Speaker 2: I'm glad that everyone is as worried about a travel
- 55:41Speaker 2: schedule as I am. Listen, would I love Milwaukee, Philly?
- 55:44Speaker 3: Sure.
- 55:44Speaker 2: Would I love Milwaukee? Actually, if it was LA, San Diego,
- 55:48Speaker 2: I might get that, which also would be awesome because
- 55:50Speaker 2: I've done that series and it is.
- 55:52Speaker 3: That's easy travel.
- 55:53Speaker 2: So listen, I'm not lying. I'm selfish. I want the
- 55:57Speaker 2: easiest travel for me. And you know what's not easy travel?
- 55:59Speaker 2: Milwaukee to San Diego. That's not going to be easy travel.
- 56:05Speaker 3: Not a lot of flights, not a lot of routes
- 56:07Speaker 3: like that.
- 56:07Speaker 4: I want AJ to come to Philly. That's what I want.
- 56:10Speaker 4: I want AJ to come to Philly.
- 56:11Speaker 2: Last time I was in Philly, the Mets whooped that
- 56:13Speaker 2: ass in the playoffs, so I don't know that you
- 56:14Speaker 2: don't hope for that.
- 56:16Speaker 4: Oh, I don't care. I don't care who wins.
- 56:19Speaker 2: By the way, last time I was in Philly for
- 56:21Speaker 2: the playoffs, oh, we went to this best Italian restaurant.
- 56:24Speaker 2: I can't tell you what it was called, but it
- 56:25Speaker 2: was like outside of a house. It was, oh, so good.
- 56:28Speaker 3: That was just someone's.
- 56:31Speaker 2: House. I don't know what it was called, but it
- 56:32Speaker 2: was so good. Right next to the highway? I probably
- 56:37Speaker 2: had some adult beverages at the time. I couldn't tell
- 56:39Speaker 2: you how I got there because I took a car
- 56:41Speaker 2: and they... You were game prepping. It was our whole crew.
- 56:48Speaker 3: That's how they prepare. Broadcasting is tough.
- 56:52Speaker 2: We went to some great restaurants in Philly. I think
- 56:55Speaker 2: we went to Morimoto. We went to Nobu. I think
- 57:01Speaker 2: we went to Quality Meats in New York. We had some.
- 57:08Speaker 4: Quality.
- 57:09Speaker 2: Quality places.
- 57:10Speaker 3: All right. Let's get to the meats in Milwaukee. They
- 57:13Speaker 3: keep winning division titles.
- 57:14Speaker 2: Carnivore.
- 57:14Speaker 3: That's next.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Carnivore.
- 57:16Speaker 4: Great place.
- 57:17Speaker 2: Carnivore. I know Kratz is in there.
- 57:18Speaker 4: Great place.
- 57:19Speaker 2: They put your name on the menu when you go
- 57:20Speaker 2: in there. Oh, love that place.
- 57:33Speaker 1: Hey, for tomorrow's show Thursday, Pedro Martinez joining us.
- 57:36Speaker 3: That'll be fun.
- 57:39Speaker 2: Sweet.
- 57:39Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 57:41Speaker 3: Yeah. AJ reporting live from Houston tomorrow.
- 57:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Love Petey.
- 57:49Speaker 4: Yeah. Are you staying at the hotel with the Texas-shaped pool?
- 57:53Speaker 2: No, I've stayed in that before. I've ridden that ride before. Yeah.
- 57:57Speaker 3: It's cool to watch from your hotel room.
- 57:59Speaker 4: It really is. It's cooler to be, yeah.
- 58:01Speaker 3: The lazy river they have.
- 58:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:03Speaker 4: Because it doesn't get any sun because the hotel is
- 58:05Speaker 4: so big. You don't get any sun.
- 58:07Speaker 2: I think that's the Marriott. Is that the Marriott? It's
- 58:09Speaker 2: a Marriott or a Hilton. No, I'm in a different one.
- 58:11Speaker 3: Yes.
- 58:12Speaker 7: Yes.
- 58:13Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 58:14Speaker 3: All right, people.
- 58:15Speaker 1: Clark Schmidt's back for the Yankees after like over a year.
- 58:18Speaker 1: Could be a big bullpen piece. Junior Cameron Arrow took
- 58:20Speaker 1: 40 seconds to go across the bags and we loved
- 58:23Speaker 1: all of it with his.
- 58:24Speaker 2: Second walk off in a week. That was so awesome.
- 58:26Speaker 2: That was so awesome. You know what the best part
- 58:28Speaker 2: about that is when he hit the home run, he
- 58:30Speaker 2: knew the game was over, and his whole team came
- 58:33Speaker 2: out and gave him a high five down the first baseline.
- 58:36Speaker 2: That was so awesome. Good for you.
- 58:38Speaker 4: No, he threw his bat, and you see Jose Mesa Jr.
- 58:42Speaker 4: ducked because he threw his bat once he got to
- 58:44Speaker 4: the first base. That was the coolest part.
- 58:47Speaker 1: Junior Caminero is the best of winter ball vibes, and
- 58:50Speaker 1: he's bringing it to Major League Baseball.
- 58:53Speaker 2: We had this whole conversation with him. Remember when we
- 58:55Speaker 2: had him on? He was awesome. We were like, this
- 58:57Speaker 2: is great, man.
- 58:58Speaker 3: Big fan. MVP candidate.
- 59:00Speaker 1: We'll get into that at some point. We'll see you Thursday.
