- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean. Here it is a Wednesday.
- 0:16It is the 26th of July 2023 and here we are ready to read
- 0:24another chapter of the Bible together.
- 0:27Thanks for inviting me into your day.
- 0:29Thank you for pressing play because you and I have got an
- 0:33amazing chapter to read Today. Let's find our context.
- 0:38This is while the nation of Judah stands and they have not
- 0:44yet been carried away by the Babylonians.
- 0:47They still are there in their pre exile stage not doing the
- 0:51right thing and God is full of judgment for them and the
- 0:55decisions they are going to make that are going to ultimately
- 0:57lead to their downfall. But in the midst of all this, he
- 1:03plants the seed of this idea of a Messiah who is going to come
- 1:07and save them. And when so much later in the
- 1:12story, Jesus arrives and claims to be this Messiah, they do not
- 1:16buy it at all. But this is the biblical basis.
- 1:21This is where they hope for the Messiah stems from.
- 1:24It's what God speaks to his people through Isaiah, largely
- 1:30in the chapter we're about to read today when they talk about
- 1:33there is going to be a seed of David who comes and saves them.
- 1:38This is hopeful stuff for people surrounded by doom and gloom.
- 1:43So let's read it. Let us find this hope as we read
- 1:47together. Isaiah Chapter 11
- 2:00out of the stump of David's family will grow a shoot.
- 2:04Yes, a new branch bearing fruit from the old root, and the
- 2:09Spirit of the Lord will rest on him.
- 2:12The spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of
- 2:16counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the
- 2:20Lord. He will delight in obeying the
- 2:23Lord. He will not judge by appearance,
- 2:26nor make a decision based on hearsay.
- 2:29He will give justice to the poor and make fair decisions for the
- 2:33exploited. The earth will shake at the
- 2:36force of his word, and one breath from his mouth will
- 2:40destroy the wicked. He will wear righteousness like
- 2:44a belt and truth like an undergarment.
- 2:47In that day the wolf and the lamb will live together.
- 2:51The leopard will lie down with the baby goat.
- 2:54The calf and the yielding will be safe with the lion, and the
- 2:58little child will lead them all. The cow will graze near the
- 3:02bear. The cub and the calf will lie
- 3:04down together. The lion will eat hay like a
- 3:08cow. That baby will play safely near
- 3:11the whole of a cobra. Yes, a little child will put its
- 3:15hand on a nest of deadly snakes without harm.
- 3:18Nothing will hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain.
- 3:22For as the waters fill the sea, so the earth will be filled with
- 3:27people who know the Lord. In that day, the heir to David's
- 3:31throne will be a banner of salvation to all the world.
- 3:35The nations will rally to him, and the land where he lives will
- 3:40be a glorious place. In that day the Lord will reach
- 3:44out his hand a second time to bring back the remnant of his
- 3:48people, those who remain in Assyria and northern Egypt, in
- 3:53southern Egypt, Ethiopia and Elam, in Babylonia, Hamas and
- 3:58all the distant coast lands. He will raise a flag among the
- 4:03nations and assemble the Exiles of Israel.
- 4:07He will gather the scattered people of Judah from the ends of
- 4:10the earth. Then at last, the jealousy
- 4:14between Israel and Judah will end.
- 4:16They will not be rivals anymore. They will join forces to swoop
- 4:20down on Felicia to the West. Together they will attack and
- 4:24plunder the nations to the east. They will occupy the lands of
- 4:28Edom and Moab, and Amman will obey them.
- 4:32The Lord will make a dry path through the Gulf of the Red Sea.
- 4:36He will wave his hand over the Euphrates River, sending a
- 4:40mighty wave to divide it into 7 streams so it can easily be
- 4:45crossed on foot. He will make a highway for the
- 4:48remnant of his people, the remaining coming from Assyria,
- 4:52just as it did for Israel long ago when they returned from
- 4:57Egypt. Ah Lord, you are a good God, and
- 5:13we read this perfect description of Jesus and everything that he
- 5:18has done for us. What an incredibly complete and
- 5:24rounded picture of restoration and saving.
- 5:28It just couldn't be more perfect.
- 5:32And when we read that the earth would shake at the force of His
- 5:35word, this is what happened. Jesus speaks and the whole world
- 5:41is changed. You reveal your heart for us
- 5:44through Him, and we cannot remain unaffected by this.
- 5:51The God of the universe comes here to prove and to show your
- 5:56love for us, your lowly people. Thank you for that love.
- 6:06Thank you for your saving plan, and thank you that we are indeed
- 6:11saved and restored to you. So we thank you for Jesus, and
- 6:15it's in His name that we pray. Amen.
