- 0:00What if you stopped asking every experience in your business to
- 0:03prove whether you're going to be successful? One person says yes

- 0:11the whole business. That is a lot of power to give a single conversation.

- 0:19how to review your results with clarity, and to stop putting your worth

- 0:55Welcome back to the Revolution of Purpose podcast. I'm John Streit, and I
- 0:59am so glad you're here. If you own a business or lead a team,
- 1:02maybe you work in sales or in real estate, maybe you have a dream that
- 1:06you're actively building. You know that pressure to succeed.
- 1:10You have a vision, you're investing time, energy, and money into
- 1:13it. You want your work to make a difference and you want it to produce
- 1:17results. And of course you do, that's natural.
- 1:20But there is a pattern that can make building that dream much heavier
- 1:24than it needs to be. You begin treating every result as evidence for
- 1:28or against yourself. You have a productive conversation and then you
- 1:32start to think, yes, this is working. I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing.
- 1:36And then suddenly you have a bad conversation. Someone doesn't respond to the message
- 1:40that you brought them and a potential client decides to
- 1:44wait, or they just say no. Something you were counting on
- 1:47really falls through and makes you start to question yourself.
- 1:50You're asking, am I really capable of this? Am I fooling myself?
- 1:54Was this vision ever right for me? Am I good enough?
- 1:57Should I be further along? Notice how quickly that conversation
- 2:01changes. You started with a business situation, and now suddenly
- 2:05you're questioning yourself as a person, wondering if your
- 2:08whole entire vision was some type of lie, some type of
- 2:12myth you cooked up. And if you do that often enough, your confidence
- 2:16becomes dependent on what happened most recently.
- 2:19Now, that's an exhausting way to pursue a meaningful goal. Because business
- 2:24includes uncertainty. People will make decisions on their own
- 2:27timelines. Some ideas need adjusting. Some opportunities develop
- 2:32slowly, and some things just simply don't work out. You need
- 2:36to be able to navigate those experiences without having to rebuild your
- 2:39belief in yourself every single time. And that begins with
- 2:43understanding this: you, my friend, are already
- 2:47worthy. You do not need someone else to validate or prove
- 2:51that for you. Your next client does not create your worth.
- 2:55Your next achievement does not make you deserving of respect, and an unsuccessful
- 3:00attempt does not remove the gifts, the skills, the experience,
- 3:04or the ability that you brought into this vision. You can
- 3:07want better results while standing securely in who you
- 3:10are and your worth. In fact, that is a much
- 3:14stronger place to build from. There was a moment while preparing to travel
- 3:18across the country several years ago on one of my first speaking and coaching trips
- 3:23that brought this distinction into focus for me. There were people to meet,
- 3:26there were conversations to have, there were opportunities to explore, and naturally
- 3:31I wanted that investment of time and energy to produce something meaningful.
- 3:35But beneath that practical question of how can I make the most of
- 3:39this was another question: What does this need to prove about me?
- 3:43Well, that other question revealed the extra weight that I was placing
- 3:46on the experience. I was asking conversations and opportunities
- 3:50to confirm my identity as a business owner. And the shift was recognizing
- 3:54that I had a different reason to be there. I had something to contribute.
- 3:59I had experience to share. I had people to listen to. I had
- 4:03work that could help someone. I had my voice that I knew
- 4:06I was called to use. And that distinction is the lesson that
- 4:10I want you to take into your own opportunities. I'm now preparing for another
- 4:14trip tomorrow where I leave to go across the country. When you watch this on
- 4:18Monday, I will already be in Los Angeles and I will be speaking and I
- 4:22will be meeting with people. And this time it's a whole different experience
- 4:26than that first time I went, because this time I realize I'm not going
- 4:29out there trying to get someone to validate me or my voice or my vision.
- 4:34I'm going out there to contribute, to serve, to shine
- 4:39my light for those who need to find it. My friends, when you enter a
- 4:42room focused on what you can contribute, you have a clear purpose before
- 4:47anyone even responds. You can prepare well,
- 4:50ask thoughtful questions, speak confidently about what you do,
- 4:54recognize a need, and make an invitation. The value
- 4:57of how you show up is no longer waiting on someone else's approval.
- 5:01Think about your own business. When you speak with a potential client,
- 5:05what are you asking that conversation to do? Are you discovering whether
- 5:09you can help them, or are you asking them to reassure you that
- 5:13you're good enough? Those can look similar from the outside, but they feel
- 5:17very different on the inside. If you need their yes to
- 5:21feel validated, it becomes harder to listen freely.
- 5:24You might overexplain yourself. You may hesitate to make a clear offer.
- 5:28You may start trying to convince someone before you even understand
- 5:31what they need. But when you know the value of your work,
- 5:35You can be present. You can say, based on what you shared, I believe I
- 5:39can help you. And here's what I can do. This is what that would look
- 5:42like. Then you can give that person room to decide. You can
- 5:46care deeply about the outcome without making their decision
- 5:50responsible for your confidence. That is a skill worth
- 5:53developing, whether you own a business in sales, whether you
- 5:57own a real estate brokerage, whether you are a real estate agent, whether you're in
- 6:01the music industry, the arts industry, no matter what you're in.
- 6:05Giving people the space to make the decision and knowing
- 6:08that that decision does not dictate how worthy you are to be living
- 6:12your dream is vitally important. This is a skill
- 6:15worth developing, and it brings us to something else: how you respond
- 6:19when things do not go the way that you want them to. I want you
- 6:22to give— I want to give you a phrase to remember: review instead of judge.
- 6:27Review instead of judge. When an experience disappoints
- 6:31you, review it. What happened? What did you expect? What worked?
- 6:34What didn't work? What needs your attention? Those questions help you
- 6:39make a decision. Judgment, however, that sounds different.
- 6:42Your inner voice gets really harsh with yourself. I always mess
- 6:45this up. I'm terrible at this. Nothing ever works out for me. You might
- 6:50call that being honest with yourself. You may even call that coaching yourself or trying
- 6:53to kick yourself in the tail and encourage yourself, but How
- 6:57useful is that type of talk really? What specific action
- 7:01does I'm terrible at this help you take? Compare that
- 7:05with maybe I didn't ask enough questions to understand what that person needed.
- 7:08Maybe I didn't listen to them fully enough. Now you have something
- 7:12you can work with, or I waited too long to follow up. And you know
- 7:15what? I can accept that and I can change it. Or I've been spending time
- 7:19getting ready because I'm uncomfortable making the actual invitation.
- 7:23And so I just hesitated. That's an honest observation.
- 7:26That's a review instead of a judgment, and it gives you a place to begin.
- 7:30Reviewing your behavior requires responsibility, but condemning
- 7:34yourself, that often keeps you stuck in the feeling of failure
- 7:38without helping you ever improve. And this applies to a
- 7:43slip in your own commitments too. Maybe you plan to make outreach every day
- 7:47this week and you just missed a couple of days, and a review would say,
- 7:50well, what interrupted the plan? Did I protect the time? Was my commitment
- 7:54clear? What will I do tomorrow? But judgment turns those
- 7:582 missed days into an identity. I'm inconsistent
- 8:01and I never follow through. Please pardon this interruption to your podcast
- 8:04episode. This will not take but a minute. Before we continue, I want to ask
- 8:08you something. Do you know that you're capable of more, but your life right now
- 8:12just isn't fully reflecting the person you know you can become?
- 8:15Then I want to personally invite you to schedule a Shift Mindset call with
- 8:19me. This Shift Mindset experience is something that I created to
- 8:24help you identify one decision that you can make that will shift
- 8:28your life. And when I say that this is a call with me, I mean
- 8:31exactly that. This is a live one-on-one personal
- 8:35call between you and I. This is not prerecorded. This is not
- 8:40a member of my team. It is you and I having a real coaching conversation
- 8:43about your life, and it does not cost you any money.
- 8:46It is a 45-minute exchange of time. I'll give you 30 minutes of my
- 8:51best mindset coaching to help you identify a decision that will create a real
- 8:55shift in your life. And in exchange, I just ask that you give me about
- 8:5815 minutes to show you the coaching experiences that I offer.
- 9:02There's no obligation. But there is an opportunity to create
- 9:06a meaningful shift in your life just from this call. You can schedule

- 9:21Every time you do that, every time you engage, you are helping to spread this
- 9:25message and inspire someone else to create their best
- 9:29life through also living their own revolution of purpose. Now let's
- 9:33get you back to the Revolution of Purpose podcast. Be careful
- 9:37what you rehearse about yourself. Maybe it's something that you're
- 9:41doing for your own well-being. You're going to meditate every morning, and then
- 9:45you miss that meditation, you oversleep, and then the rest of the day I
- 9:49never follow through for myself. I can't believe it. Why did I think I would
- 9:52do that? You know, you can pause in the middle of the day, turn off
- 9:56your phone for 10 minutes, and then meditate. But we have such a black and
- 9:59white, all or nothing thinking that we're like, well, maybe I'll do it tomorrow.
- 10:02I'll try the next morning. My friends, I just want you to give yourself the
- 10:06same type of grace that you would give anyone that you cared about.
- 10:09And when things are challenging, when things don't go the way they want them,
- 10:12even if there are times that you let down yourself on your own commitments,
- 10:17Don't spend the rest of the time punishing yourself before you're allowed to begin
- 10:21again. Give yourself grace. And now we also need
- 10:24to look at the other side of this pattern because positive results can become a
- 10:28trap too. And I know that may sound odd to you, but listen to this
- 10:32for a minute. Well, you know, if you're in sales, if you're in real estate,
- 10:35you know, if you land a client that you really wanted,
- 10:38you're like, finally, I knew I could do this. And you celebrate that
- 10:41client, you enjoy the success. You receive the income with gratitude,
- 10:45but pay attention to the word, I finally did this.
- 10:49Did that person's decision suddenly give you the ability that you
- 10:53didn't have before they made it? Or did the result give you the evidence that
- 10:57a particular message or relationship offer came together?
- 11:01You want to understand what works so that you can build on it. If every
- 11:05success has to prove that you are capable, then you
- 11:09may feel compelled to keep producing another success just to
- 11:13hold on to that feeling. The celebration gets shorter and the pressure
- 11:18returns faster. You hit one goal and immediately the next one becomes the condition
- 11:22for feeling secure. So a lot of you know I'm from Alabama,
- 11:26and being born and raised in Alabama means that I learned
- 11:29to love college football growing up. I was an Alabama Crimson Tide
- 11:33fan and I still am. And so starting around 2007,
- 11:37we went on what became an amazing, like, dynasty run
- 11:41with the University of Alabama, and our head coach was named Nick Saban. And so
- 11:45Nick Saban would tell his teams after a victory, you had 24
- 11:50hours to celebrate that victory. You had 24 hours to
- 11:53enjoy it, to bask in the glory of being a winning college
- 11:57football player in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. But also,
- 12:01if they lost that game on Saturday, if they lost that game, no matter
- 12:05how big or how small, they only had 24 hours to lick their wounds.
- 12:08They had 24 hours to look back and be sad.
- 12:12And just be like, man, I wish we had won that game and all the
- 12:16things that come with that horrible feeling of defeat. But then after the 24 hours,
- 12:21whether it was a win or a loss, he then had them review their
- 12:25film. He then had them look at how they played and see
- 12:28what, what changes they could make, see what things they did
- 12:31well and what things that they could improve. And that right there is
- 12:35the mind of a champion. They were not deciding that they were worth being
- 12:39a good football player just because of if they won or lost.
- 12:43They knew they had the skill. They knew they had the coaching. They knew they
- 12:46had everything. They were equipped to be winners. They just
- 12:50sometimes made mistakes. So they would, instead of judge, they would review.
- 12:54And I think it's so important for us to realize that we have got
- 12:58to stay out of that judgment mindset of ourselves. We have got to decide
- 13:02that we are going to review when things don't go the way that we want
- 13:05them to. And even when things are amazing, we're going to be
- 13:08thankful for the kudos that we receive, but we're not going to let
- 13:12those validate us either. We have to know who
- 13:15we are. We have to know that our business is worth pursuing. Our dreams
- 13:20are worth accomplishing, that we can do it. If God,
- 13:23the universe, your higher power has given you the purpose
- 13:26inside you, has given you the desire in your heart, then they are giving
- 13:30you the design that you need to make that desire reality.
- 13:35You can recognize when a conversation needs more time. You can
- 13:39see when an approach needs adjusting. You can take a break and return with a
- 13:42clearer mind. You can follow through on an opportunity without trying to control
- 13:46the other person. Ask yourself, what does
- 13:50this situation actually require from me? And sometimes it
- 13:54requires more effort or better questions or better patience or just listening.
- 13:58Sometimes it requires you to just be and come back
- 14:02to it later and think, you know what, that didn't go the way I wanted,
- 14:05but I know that I am supported. And look what I already
- 14:08have. Look what I've already accomplished. Don't let a no
- 14:12tell you that you're not worth following this dream. And don't let a yes
- 14:17tell you that you are worth it. Know that you know
- 14:20that you know that you are, no matter what you hear from someone else.
- 14:24Just remember, you get to decide that you are not going to let
- 14:28anyone else validate you, show you that you're worthy, or show you
- 14:32that you're not worthy. You are already equipped. You have everything
- 14:36within you that you need. And you know what? Whatever things you
- 14:40don't see in front of you now, those doors are going to open because you
- 14:43were so supported by the universe to flow in your purpose. I hope
- 14:47that this really resonated with you today. And, you know, it really
