- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes eight ninety four, eight ninety seven,
- 0:17Speaker 1: and eight ninety eight, skipping over a couple filler episodes.
- 0:22Speaker 1: He'll Come, the Legend of Ace in the Land of Wano,
- 0:26Speaker 1: save O Tama, straw Hat Bounding through the Wasteland, and
- 0:30Speaker 1: the headliner Hawkins the Magician, appears in these episodes. Hawkins
- 0:43Speaker 1: is I I don't think I fully understand his deal.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I just don't. I just don't quite get it. Welcome
- 0:58Speaker 1: to spoil Me. Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Thank you very much to Florian for commissioning this episode.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Florian is here in the chat with me. Appreciate you
- 1:27Speaker 1: very much, sir. This dude is wild. We knew we
- 1:34Speaker 1: knew about like the straw thing. I remember seeing this
- 1:39Speaker 1: and thinking how fucking weird and creepy it was. I
- 1:43Speaker 1: don't mean the men who like take damage for him,
- 1:48Speaker 1: because if I'm not mistaken, I don't think that we
- 1:52Speaker 1: knew about that, or if we did, I don't remember,
- 1:55Speaker 1: but I do remember the way that he can like
- 2:00Speaker 1: turn into straw in this odd It's something that there's
- 2:06Speaker 1: a lot of like weirdo powers that can look really
- 2:11Speaker 1: strange in one piece, obviously, but there was something about
- 2:18Speaker 1: the way this particular power looks that I remember just
- 2:25Speaker 1: making me feel very shaken. I remember just being like,
- 2:29Speaker 1: what the fuck and the way that I continued to
- 2:36Speaker 1: say what the fuck? As this episode goes on the
- 2:41Speaker 1: final of the three, I think my husband was in
- 2:44Speaker 1: the kitchen just kind of like, are you okay? And
- 2:46Speaker 1: I was like, no, no, I am not so all right.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Let's start with eight ninety four. He'll come the legend
- 2:56Speaker 1: of Ace in the Land of Wano. Now, guys, it's
- 3:00Speaker 1: something I meant to touch on, but because I was
- 3:03Speaker 1: covering the previous episodes with Florian, I got distracted because
- 3:08Speaker 1: I have fun recording with Florian, so I forgot to
- 3:11Speaker 1: bring this up. But there is a new theme song.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I don't have strong feelings about this theme song. I
- 3:19Speaker 1: don't dislike it. It's not a particular favorite of mine,
- 3:23Speaker 1: but I think maybe it'll grow on me. I've been
- 3:26Speaker 1: tending to sort of skip over the theme song when
- 3:29Speaker 1: I start the episodes lately, but I do try to
- 3:32Speaker 1: let it play when I'm in the mood to do it,
- 3:36Speaker 1: because I feel like it helps me get in the headspace.
- 3:40Speaker 1: You know, the previous episodes, those theme songs were not
- 3:47Speaker 1: the one for hole Cake because there was a different
- 3:49Speaker 1: theme song in between. I think that song was really
- 3:53Speaker 1: long and that I was just sort of like choosing
- 3:57Speaker 1: to skip a lot of the time because it just
- 3:59Speaker 1: went on a way while. But this one, it's like
- 4:03Speaker 1: it seemed more reasonable in length. I'm still doing the
- 4:06Speaker 1: thing where I try not to watch the credits because
- 4:08Speaker 1: evidently that will have spoilers in it still, so I'm
- 4:11Speaker 1: not doing that, but sorry. Florian's in the chat saying
- 4:16Speaker 1: his power has many layers, the one where you're like,
- 4:19Speaker 1: what do you even do with straw? Who wants that?
- 4:21Speaker 1: Which is exactly the question, you know what. I can't
- 4:28Speaker 1: allow myself to be distracted yet though. Okay, let's jump
- 4:31Speaker 1: over to the beginning of this episode, because like the
- 4:35Speaker 1: end of the last, is Loofy becoming friends with Otama,
- 4:42Speaker 1: who has this like ability to make dumplings. She's ate
- 4:47Speaker 1: like the dump dump fruit. I don't know, but he
- 4:51Speaker 1: stepped in and saved her from a couple of guys
- 4:53Speaker 1: that were going to I guess put her into slavery.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Is the implication here for daring to speak out against
- 5:05Speaker 1: their current ruling masters, and she is immediately very what's
- 5:14Speaker 1: the word I want? Friendly is not adequate because she
- 5:18Speaker 1: calls Loofy big bro. And it's sort of funny because
- 5:23Speaker 1: he reacts like did I miss something? How are you
- 5:27Speaker 1: already calling me big bro? Which I thought was sort
- 5:33Speaker 1: of surprising due to how immediately affectionate people often are
- 5:39Speaker 1: in this universe, So I was sort of like, what
- 5:42Speaker 1: do you mean? What does she mean? People are out
- 5:45Speaker 1: here doing this all the time. But the energy, as
- 5:51Speaker 1: we see later, is very much like she needs somebody
- 5:56Speaker 1: to care for her, and Lufy is obviously subconsciously baby
- 6:04Speaker 1: making her feel safe in the way that Ace made
- 6:07Speaker 1: her feel safe, and so she is like leaning into
- 6:11Speaker 1: him as a support in a way that I understand
- 6:16Speaker 1: I can't help but appreciate, you know, like she has
- 6:21Speaker 1: got somebody caring for her. But this dude is obviously
- 6:26Speaker 1: much more serious, much more. He just seems like less fun,
- 6:32Speaker 1: you know, and uh also clearly has like other shit
- 6:36Speaker 1: to do, because he's not around for a lot of this.
- 6:39Speaker 1: So she tells him I was on the way to
- 6:44Speaker 1: the market to help with doing some shopping when those
- 6:47Speaker 1: two big mean men with the baboon spotted me and
- 6:51Speaker 1: tried to hurt me. That's when Comacchio jumped in to
- 6:56Speaker 1: save me from them, and evidently like the decided to
- 7:05Speaker 1: hurt her. It's not clear exactly what the deal is is.
- 7:10Speaker 1: It just seems like they go out and just like
- 7:15Speaker 1: torment people and steal from them for the fun. There's
- 7:18Speaker 1: nothing in particular about why they targeted her other than
- 7:21Speaker 1: she's a little girl who has no means of really
- 7:23Speaker 1: defending herself and they were about to steal everything that
- 7:28Speaker 1: she had, which, as we find out later, Lufy does instead. Look,
- 7:36Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not blaming loofy Okay, he didn't know,
- 7:42Speaker 1: but you know, so we'll get there. We'll get there.
- 7:48Speaker 1: But this is when she says the Kozuki Klan is
- 7:50Speaker 1: gonna come back and then you'll pay, because understandably, she
- 7:53Speaker 1: is really upset at her food being taken from her.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Everybody knows. If there's any podcaster that is going to
- 8:05Speaker 1: defend somebody getting angry, it is me. I feel you, girly,
- 8:10Speaker 1: you were right to get mad. It's totally fair. So
- 8:17Speaker 1: this story is very much leaving some things out about
- 8:24Speaker 1: the way that she has been living up to now,
- 8:28Speaker 1: it seems pretty clear she does not have very much
- 8:37Speaker 1: once you get to her home and the way that
- 8:40Speaker 1: things go. But I really I feel that she if
- 8:48Speaker 1: we're to believe that she is starving, I wish that
- 8:51Speaker 1: she had been drawn a little bit differently, because there
- 8:56Speaker 1: is a look about people who have been going through
- 9:02Speaker 1: this kind of hunger that we know Oda can do.
- 9:08Speaker 1: You know, we've seen it when we're in Sanjy's POV
- 9:12Speaker 1: where he is starving. And it isn't necessarily meant to
- 9:16Speaker 1: be like quite as a cute with her, But I
- 9:21Speaker 1: feel that if we're going to have a turn around
- 9:26Speaker 1: in her fate later where she is safe and well fed,
- 9:31Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind getting to see an actual physical change
- 9:36Speaker 1: in her from maybe having more of a drawn expression,
- 9:41Speaker 1: maybe her clothes seeming a little bit loose on her,
- 9:45Speaker 1: any of these things, and then having her face sort
- 9:49Speaker 1: of fill out and be obviously more healthy, perhaps even
- 9:53Speaker 1: changing up whether her complexion looks good. You know, she
- 10:00Speaker 1: is really drawn out of the gate as in the
- 10:04Speaker 1: pink of health, And so like finding out that she
- 10:11Speaker 1: is starving is there are times where I want to
- 10:16Speaker 1: fault Lufy for not like picking up on context clues
- 10:21Speaker 1: and being kind of oblivious. But I can't do that here,
- 10:26Speaker 1: like it, there are certainly some clues, but it's not
- 10:30Speaker 1: to the extent that I feel angry at him for
- 10:32Speaker 1: not seeing it, you know. So anyway, so they go
- 10:39Speaker 1: and hide the sonny. He manages to actually like pull
- 10:44Speaker 1: it into this cave that's off the edge of the island.
- 10:49Speaker 1: My I mentioned last time, like all of my anxiety
- 10:53Speaker 1: surrounding this, and it turns out it seems like that's
- 10:55Speaker 1: going to be no problem whatsoever. Somebody could certainly find
- 11:00Speaker 1: the ship, but it would have to they would have
- 11:02Speaker 1: to know it was there, and it would have to
- 11:05Speaker 1: really be like a determined exploration of Okay, well he
- 11:11Speaker 1: was spotted around here, so we can zero when, you know.
- 11:14Speaker 1: So for now, I'm feeling pretty good about the sunny
- 11:17Speaker 1: being left. It's fine. She here's Lufy's stomach growling and
- 11:28Speaker 1: feels that she owes him. So each of them rides
- 11:32Speaker 1: one of these giant animals back to her house and
- 11:39Speaker 1: she says that she's like on the way that she's
- 11:42Speaker 1: met some good pirates, but they aren't all good, you know,
- 11:46Speaker 1: And he just says, if you say so, and doesn't
- 11:51Speaker 1: really like go like push further or ask any questions.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Later on, once he finds out who she's gotten to know,
- 12:01Speaker 1: it probably would have been prudent for him to ask
- 12:04Speaker 1: a few more questions about this. But he couldn't know
- 12:07Speaker 1: this either, So you know, I'm not in the habit
- 12:12Speaker 1: of defending Lufy's obliviousness, as you all know, but I
- 12:16Speaker 1: just really feel he can't be faulted for this at
- 12:19Speaker 1: this point. So this is when she says, we used
- 12:26Speaker 1: to live in the mountains, but now my master and
- 12:30Speaker 1: I live together, and I am going to be really
- 12:35Speaker 1: tough one day, and says that she's going to be
- 12:38Speaker 1: a bewitching ninja, which I am deeply curious what that means.
- 12:45Speaker 1: And as they're on this like cliff top looking out
- 12:50Speaker 1: over everything, we get a pan over some smoke stacks
- 12:57Speaker 1: in the distance, and then the stream which looks lovely.
- 13:03Speaker 1: All of this water and everything is like really clear
- 13:08Speaker 1: and glassy and looks delightful. And then we get a
- 13:13Speaker 1: montage of her very traditional way of preparing this rice,
- 13:20Speaker 1: which I'm so curious about, Like, how long do you
- 13:27Speaker 1: guys ever stop and think about this that the things
- 13:29Speaker 1: that are so simple and easy for us to do
- 13:31Speaker 1: with the snap of a finger. Used to take ages.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Every bit of our energy just went into like making
- 13:38Speaker 1: sure that we didn't starve to death. And now it's
- 13:40Speaker 1: weird because we've just managed to transform that same kind
- 13:43Speaker 1: of anxiety that used to exist surrounding simple survival and
- 13:47Speaker 1: just put it into a different type of anxiety about survival.
- 13:51Speaker 1: That's just it's just different, but in a way creates
- 13:55Speaker 1: just the same kind of stress. I don't know anyway,
- 14:00Speaker 1: So she is really carefully preparing everything loofy while he
- 14:07Speaker 1: is sitting waiting for this food, is looking around at
- 14:13Speaker 1: the walls which are in disrepair, the screens having holes
- 14:19Speaker 1: that are like taped up. There's a lot of like
- 14:24Speaker 1: indicators here that she doesn't have a lot of money.
- 14:29Speaker 1: One could point to this as like he should have known.
- 14:32Speaker 1: But you can have very little money and not be starving.
- 14:36Speaker 1: It's you know, like you can be struggling but still
- 14:40Speaker 1: able to share rice with somebody. So I'm not mad
- 14:43Speaker 1: about this. However, he does say something about how it's
- 14:47Speaker 1: kind of stinky and cramped in here, which I was
- 14:50Speaker 1: just like, sir, who why would you say that? He
- 14:53Speaker 1: laughs after he says it, but not in a way
- 14:56Speaker 1: that's like changing what he's said, you know what I'm saying.
- 15:01Speaker 1: I was sort of why lufy, just he'll just say things.
- 15:08Speaker 1: He does do that, but it's not exactly usual for
- 15:13Speaker 1: him to be quite that kind of rude, and I
- 15:18Speaker 1: was surprised at him. So she makes the rice, she
- 15:22Speaker 1: serves it to him in a very chipped, cracked bowl.
- 15:26Speaker 1: It is a pile of rice. I mean, it's at
- 15:31Speaker 1: least twice the size of the bowl itself, piled up.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest, you guys, this made me want
- 15:40Speaker 1: rice really bad. I'm not great at making rice. I've
- 15:44Speaker 1: gotten a lot better over the past two years because
- 15:47Speaker 1: I have begun to like do some some additional steps
- 15:51Speaker 1: and whatnot that I didn't used to do. But uh,
- 15:57Speaker 1: a well made rice, I mean it's hard to beat.
- 16:00Speaker 1: And when she puts this in front of him and
- 16:02Speaker 1: it's steaming and everything, I was just like, oh, goddamn,
- 16:05Speaker 1: that looks so good. It's just rice, that's all it is.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I don't care. Plain rice is so good. So Lofy
- 16:15Speaker 1: eats all of this rice in about seven seconds and
- 16:21Speaker 1: eats it all up, is full for a millisecond, tells
- 16:26Speaker 1: her it's yummy, YadA YadA, and then it's gone, and
- 16:30Speaker 1: he's just like, that was really good. Can I have more?
- 16:35Speaker 1: And I will say that. He at the very least
- 16:39Speaker 1: notices she's not eating and asks like, aren't you gonna
- 16:43Speaker 1: have any And she's like, oh no, I'm good. I'm
- 16:46Speaker 1: not even hungry, and starts to do some things to
- 16:50Speaker 1: kind of cover up the fact that her stomach is growling,
- 16:54Speaker 1: which later on we see her like down at the
- 16:56Speaker 1: water and she is drinking the water even though she
- 17:00Speaker 1: knows that it's not good for her, because like, literally,
- 17:02Speaker 1: what choice does she have, but it's obviously a means
- 17:06Speaker 1: of her trying to fill her stomach, because this is
- 17:12Speaker 1: I am lucky enough. I have only experienced minor food insecurity.
- 17:18Speaker 1: It was when I was living by myself, but I
- 17:21Speaker 1: had parents that I knew if things got really bad,
- 17:24Speaker 1: I could go to them. I didn't. I had like
- 17:29Speaker 1: a backup safety net, which a lot of people don't.
- 17:34Speaker 1: More people don't than folks realize, I think, so I
- 17:39Speaker 1: have not personally experienced some of the types of like
- 17:43Speaker 1: food stretching that certain folks do. I remember a friend
- 17:48Speaker 1: of mine who grew up with like hunger being a
- 17:50Speaker 1: real issue, and she would talk about how the rare
- 17:54Speaker 1: times that they could like order pizza, her mother would
- 17:57Speaker 1: had convinced her and her brother that their mom liked
- 18:02Speaker 1: the crust the best. Actually, that was her favorite part
- 18:04Speaker 1: of the pizza, and so she would insist that the
- 18:08Speaker 1: kids get to eat like the good part, and she
- 18:10Speaker 1: just wanted the crust because that's like her favorite part.
- 18:13Speaker 1: And she just really managed to make them think that
- 18:15Speaker 1: was true because she wanted her children to be fed,
- 18:18Speaker 1: and she was just gonna, you know, and getting like
- 18:23Speaker 1: certain types of soup and getting cheap loaves of bread
- 18:30Speaker 1: and mashing the bread into the soup to give it
- 18:33Speaker 1: a thickness so that it would sort of fill you
- 18:36Speaker 1: up more than just the you know. And I know
- 18:38Speaker 1: that we all like will often crumble crackers into our
- 18:42Speaker 1: soup and whatnot. This is a different thing though. It's
- 18:46Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. And the adding water to
- 18:52Speaker 1: the milk that you're pouring into the cereal to make
- 18:55Speaker 1: the milk stretch further, and the cereal obviously being like
- 19:00Speaker 1: some of the cheapest stuff that you could buy. This
- 19:04Speaker 1: is stuff I have not experienced, but I have close
- 19:07Speaker 1: friends who have and I just can't imagine what it
- 19:12Speaker 1: must be like having kids that like rely on you
- 19:14Speaker 1: and just feeding them is a struggle, Like that must
- 19:18Speaker 1: be so hard. So this is when he asks for more.
- 19:24Speaker 1: He says that it was just a joke once he
- 19:29Speaker 1: realizes that he doesn't that there isn't anymore, and he's like, oh,
- 19:34Speaker 1: I don't I didn't really want any But then he
- 19:36Speaker 1: like licks the bowl, indicating very much, yeah, he does.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Her stomach growls and he looks at her, and before
- 19:46Speaker 1: she can like, before he can ask, wait, aren't you hungry,
- 19:49Speaker 1: she gets up and runs off, saying that she has
- 19:52Speaker 1: to go to the potty and that's why her stomach
- 19:55Speaker 1: is making this noise. Then we have a really odd
- 20:01Speaker 1: sequence where we're getting like close ups of all of
- 20:07Speaker 1: these weird parts of this person who we eventually meet.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Lufy mistakes them for USA for understandable reasons, because guy
- 20:16Speaker 1: has a very long nose. It's the mask that has
- 20:20Speaker 1: a long nose. But I his face moves when he's talking,
- 20:25Speaker 1: like the mask moves in such a way that I
- 20:28Speaker 1: know that this is like an animation choice, but it
- 20:31Speaker 1: did make me kind of go, wait, does his face
- 20:33Speaker 1: just look like that a couple times, you know. So,
- 20:38Speaker 1: Loofy is waiting for her and is sprawled out on
- 20:41Speaker 1: the floor, and this dude comes in and yells at
- 20:48Speaker 1: Loofy for laying out on his floor and for eating
- 20:54Speaker 1: the rice. Once he sees the bowl, there's a little
- 20:57Speaker 1: spot of like a grain of rice on Lufy's face,
- 21:01Speaker 1: and he loses his fucking shit in a way that's
- 21:08Speaker 1: deeply understandable when you know what's going on. But considering everything,
- 21:12Speaker 1: how the fuck was Lufy supposed to know? It's you know,
- 21:16Speaker 1: the kind of so anyway, Uh, he says something about,
- 21:23Speaker 1: do you know how many days it's been since she's
- 21:25Speaker 1: had a bite to eat? That poor girl weaves hats
- 21:29Speaker 1: day in and day out, and if she's lucky, she'll
- 21:31Speaker 1: sell the whole batch, earning her just enough money to
- 21:34Speaker 1: barely get by and feed herself. And as he's yelling
- 21:40Speaker 1: this at Loofy, he has like chased him outside, and
- 21:44Speaker 1: Lufy turns and begins to look around him and realize
- 21:47Speaker 1: that the buildings around him clearly reformer homes, have been
- 21:52Speaker 1: like desolated. Everything is in ruins. The trees have been
- 21:57Speaker 1: like yanked up by the roots. Most of the time
- 22:00Speaker 1: she's forced to eat millet, and that's if she's lucky.
- 22:04Speaker 1: But that's not the tragic part. She only gets rice
- 22:06Speaker 1: twice a year for New Year's and her birthday. I
- 22:10Speaker 1: sent her to the market today because she was to
- 22:14Speaker 1: buy herself a sack of rice for her eighth birthday
- 22:18Speaker 1: and you fucking ate it all. And Lufy just has
- 22:22Speaker 1: this flashback to how quickly too he downed all of
- 22:27Speaker 1: that food that was her only meal and her her
- 22:31Speaker 1: birthday meal. So this guy's name is hit Tetsu, Is
- 22:38Speaker 1: that right? I can't remember if I'm saying that right.
- 22:44Speaker 1: He's yelling at Lufy and oh god, I forgot her name. Otama.
- 22:52Speaker 1: She comes running in when she hears him yelling and
- 22:56Speaker 1: is like, you can't get mad at him. I gave
- 23:01Speaker 1: him the food because I owed him, and he saved
- 23:04Speaker 1: my life. I made this choice. We've more hats to
- 23:08Speaker 1: make it up to you. Please just don't be mad
- 23:11Speaker 1: at him. And at this point the camera finally pulls
- 23:15Speaker 1: back and we get to see that he is. Look,
- 23:23Speaker 1: he's standing on stilts, which they're like the rice patty
- 23:30Speaker 1: shoes that I have seen, which are sort of platform
- 23:33Speaker 1: but like the platform is three feet it looks like
- 23:36Speaker 1: probably and it does taper, so it really does have
- 23:40Speaker 1: a stilt like look. He has these green puffs that
- 23:47Speaker 1: look sort of like moss that go down either side
- 23:50Speaker 1: of the vest that he's wearing. He's also got giant
- 23:55Speaker 1: wings and his sword blade has leaves around the edge
- 24:03Speaker 1: of the handle, the grip, the hilt. That's the one
- 24:11Speaker 1: I want, My god. Yeah, it's a very strange little
- 24:17Speaker 1: get up that he has got going on. It's like
- 24:20Speaker 1: he apparently can fly too, because we see him like
- 24:25Speaker 1: in the in mid air at one point, so I'm
- 24:28Speaker 1: assuming that those are functional wings. Right as she's yelling
- 24:33Speaker 1: at him to please understand, she starts coughing and she
- 24:37Speaker 1: vomits up water and then passes out, and he realizes,
- 24:42Speaker 1: oh my god, she was drinking the river water, and
- 24:46Speaker 1: Loofy is just like, what's wrong with drinking the river water?
- 24:50Speaker 1: And this guy is so pissed under Like again, I
- 24:56Speaker 1: understand from his perspective how frustrating it is that Lufy
- 24:59Speaker 1: has no idea what's going on here. But he can't know.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Come on, sir, please have a give him a little grace.
- 25:08Speaker 1: So he explains that the water on the island has
- 25:12Speaker 1: been polluted by Kaido's factory, which I'm not sure what
- 25:18Speaker 1: these factories make, but my assumption is they're doing those
- 25:21Speaker 1: artificial dragon dragon fruits devil fruits. And because the water
- 25:29Speaker 1: is polluted, the animals who drink that water are basically
- 25:34Speaker 1: poisonous to eat. And because she is so small, if
- 25:39Speaker 1: she drinks the water, it affects her even more than
- 25:43Speaker 1: it would an adult. Understandably, so the fact that she
- 25:48Speaker 1: drank this much to try and ease her hunger pangs
- 25:53Speaker 1: is uh leading to her becoming really ill. And Lufy
- 26:00Speaker 1: is like, why are you living here if it's so
- 26:03Speaker 1: dangerous to hunt or eat anything? And this guy says
- 26:09Speaker 1: it's complicated. There are safer places, but she has chosen
- 26:13Speaker 1: to live here. She's waiting for a man who promised
- 26:17Speaker 1: he'd return. And when he says this, we get a
- 26:25Speaker 1: little bit of a view that made me kind of think, oh,
- 26:28Speaker 1: they're teasing us that this is Ace, but a maybe
- 26:33Speaker 1: it's not, and it just sort of looks like Ace,
- 26:35Speaker 1: or if it is Ace, Loofy won't find out that
- 26:40Speaker 1: it's Ace until a little later. We're getting a little
- 26:44Speaker 1: preview here. No we get told it's Ace very quickly.
- 26:49Speaker 1: He almost immediately says to Lufy, he's a pirate that
- 26:54Speaker 1: goes by Ace, and Lufy once again not really having
- 27:03Speaker 1: any sensitivity because this guy is like later he says,
- 27:06Speaker 1: have you no sensitivity? And I was like, no, of
- 27:09Speaker 1: course he doesn't, what do you mean. Otama wakes up
- 27:14Speaker 1: at one point and says something about Ace, and Lufy
- 27:17Speaker 1: is like he's dead and just fucking tells her in
- 27:22Speaker 1: the baldest terms and she cannot accept it. By the
- 27:28Speaker 1: time we get to the third of these three episodes,
- 27:32Speaker 1: she's still kind of not accepting that he is dead
- 27:37Speaker 1: and keeps telling herself, but you promised me, Like the
- 27:42Speaker 1: fact that Ace promised means that he can just avoid death,
- 27:45Speaker 1: which I know she's only eight years old, but this
- 27:47Speaker 1: is not an unheard of thing that I have heard
- 27:50Speaker 1: in other fictions, people being like, but they promised, and
- 27:53Speaker 1: I'm just like, I think you know that's meaningless. It's
- 27:57Speaker 1: a I understand grief. It takes many different forms and
- 28:01Speaker 1: that people react to different things different ways, but that
- 28:04Speaker 1: is always one that I have just been like, what
- 28:07Speaker 1: relevance does that have? Do you think they chose to
- 28:10Speaker 1: break their promise and not come back to you, like,
- 28:12Speaker 1: what are you even trying to suggest here? So at
- 28:19Speaker 1: this point they like Lufy is talking to this guy
- 28:26Speaker 1: because she has, you know, passed out, and Lufy is like,
- 28:30Speaker 1: since you know Ace is gone, you guys should leave
- 28:34Speaker 1: and go somewhere that's safer and better. And he says,
- 28:38Speaker 1: I have no greater desire than to do that, but
- 28:41Speaker 1: I too have been awaiting someone for quite some time.
- 28:47Speaker 1: There are only two of us now, but this was
- 28:50Speaker 1: once a village called Amigasa. Around a year ago, our
- 28:55Speaker 1: peaceful little home was attacked by one of Caido's newly recruits,
- 29:00Speaker 1: Rooted Headliners, Headliners being their names, is really weird, a
- 29:06Speaker 1: pirate by the name of X Drake, and we get
- 29:10Speaker 1: to see his little weird silhouette. The five samurai who
- 29:15Speaker 1: protected our territory were soundly defeated. Our buildings were destroyed,
- 29:22Speaker 1: and I sorry, I'm He says, like, uh because there's
- 29:32Speaker 1: like a flashback here and you see like another one
- 29:35Speaker 1: of these lizard mounts. But he says, presently, there's only
- 29:38Speaker 1: one place in the land of Wano that still flourishes,
- 29:41Speaker 1: the Flower Capital where shogun O Rochi resides. Everywhere else
- 29:48Speaker 1: has been reduced to a lawless wilderness by the wicked
- 29:52Speaker 1: acts of Caido and his followers. And that fiend came
- 30:00Speaker 1: here four years ago. The people who lived here never
- 30:05Speaker 1: had much, so when they took away what little we had,
- 30:09Speaker 1: many of us succumbed to starvation. But then when all
- 30:15Speaker 1: seemed lost, and we have a moment of oh my god,
- 30:22Speaker 1: I almost called her Tomato, My guys, oh Tama, we
- 30:27Speaker 1: have her like kneeling in front of what is clearly
- 30:30Speaker 1: like the grave of one of her parents. He says,
- 30:34Speaker 1: Ace washed ashore on our beach. Our villagers tied up
- 30:38Speaker 1: all the weakened pirates and consumed their food and water supplies.
- 30:43Speaker 1: We were desperate. It was our only means of survival.
- 30:48Speaker 1: And I really love this. Ace takes one look at
- 30:52Speaker 1: them all and is like, oh, yeah, these guys are
- 30:54Speaker 1: in bad shape and does not hold it against them
- 30:59Speaker 1: at all. He's tied up, but because of his powers,
- 31:02Speaker 1: he's able to get out of that in a millisecond.
- 31:06Speaker 1: And everybody is so afraid because like, oh, we just
- 31:09Speaker 1: ate all your food. And he comes and he stands
- 31:12Speaker 1: in front of Otama and he's like, oh, hey, did
- 31:15Speaker 1: you get enough to eat? You probably want dessert, right,
- 31:20Speaker 1: it's the best. I love it. It's so he's like,
- 31:25Speaker 1: looks over at one of his friends and he's like, hey,
- 31:29Speaker 1: where's cake. Let me get some cake. Stay put, I'll
- 31:35Speaker 1: go find us something. We were all utterly stunned. Ace
- 31:40Speaker 1: and his crew ended up staying with us for several weeks,
- 31:44Speaker 1: and Otama grew particularly fond of him, and we see
- 31:50Speaker 1: him making these hats with her. Unclear if he taught
- 31:55Speaker 1: her how to make them or if she taught him
- 31:57Speaker 1: how to make them, but they hit clearly got this bond,
- 32:02Speaker 1: and it's just tragic that he was such a light
- 32:06Speaker 1: in her life. And you know, when you're that young,
- 32:09Speaker 1: it really feels like somebody has been hanging out with
- 32:12Speaker 1: you for a while, when it's only a few weeks,
- 32:14Speaker 1: like it feels like ages. And then he leaves, but
- 32:19Speaker 1: he says he'll come back, and he doesn't, And now
- 32:23Speaker 1: Lufy has just straight up told her he's dead. Ugh,
- 32:29Speaker 1: poor oh Tuma. So Lufy obviously is like, are right, well,
- 32:36Speaker 1: we clearly have to take her somewhere where there is
- 32:39Speaker 1: food and a doctor, and I need to find the
- 32:42Speaker 1: rest of my crew, and her master is like, well,
- 32:47Speaker 1: I don't know how we're going to like pay for
- 32:50Speaker 1: any of this, and Lufy's saying very confidently, well, if
- 32:56Speaker 1: I find my crew will help for free, it's no problem.
- 33:00Speaker 1: I was sort of expecting this guy to push back
- 33:02Speaker 1: on that, but he doesn't, and I appreciated it because, like,
- 33:05Speaker 1: we don't need to have this battle right now, you know.
- 33:10Speaker 1: And then he brings up the men at Kory Beach.
- 33:13Speaker 1: We lost communication with them. I su speculate someone may
- 33:17Speaker 1: have taken them down. We're unsure how many pirates we're
- 33:23Speaker 1: dealing with, but they must have come in from the
- 33:25Speaker 1: outside world. So this is when we go over to
- 33:30Speaker 1: Hawkins and he is writing this creature that also kind
- 33:34Speaker 1: of looks like a lion but has the antlers of
- 33:38Speaker 1: a deer, and Hawkins is telling his men to keep
- 33:45Speaker 1: what's going on secret from Kaido, which is interesting. I'm
- 33:52Speaker 1: really wondering if it's that he's going like would he
- 33:55Speaker 1: get in trouble, would it be simply that he doesn't
- 33:59Speaker 1: want Ido coming here and interfering, Like what is the
- 34:04Speaker 1: danger in Kaido knowing cause we know that Kaido really
- 34:08Speaker 1: wants a piece of loofy, like he's kind of fiending
- 34:14Speaker 1: for a fight. So I feel that Hawkins, I don't
- 34:19Speaker 1: know how mad. I don't know if you know how
- 34:22Speaker 1: mad he might potentially be once he finds out that
- 34:26Speaker 1: you've been hiding that Lufy is here, you know. I
- 34:28Speaker 1: feel like that's more It's going to be more of
- 34:31Speaker 1: a thing than you even realize. But anyway, so the
- 34:38Speaker 1: next episode is all of us getting ready to travel,
- 34:44Speaker 1: and by all of us, I mean Loofy and two
- 34:46Speaker 1: other people to take her to a doctor and get
- 34:51Speaker 1: some food. And we are riding on these awesome giant animals,
- 34:55Speaker 1: which is very convenient, and Lufy is planning. He's like,
- 35:00Speaker 1: gets into full garb of a robe and he's got
- 35:07Speaker 1: a samurai sword that he just takes. He's like, hey,
- 35:11Speaker 1: I can borrow this right and just takes it before
- 35:14Speaker 1: the guy can even say anything. And he does take
- 35:16Speaker 1: a little too long to respond, I will admit, but
- 35:20Speaker 1: Lufy has decided to sort of blend in, and I
- 35:23Speaker 1: was a little surprised that he had the foresight to
- 35:26Speaker 1: do this feels almost out of character, but I guess
- 35:33Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm thinking now, maybe there was something that
- 35:37Speaker 1: her master said that tipped him off that he wanted
- 35:39Speaker 1: to kind of stay undercover. I don't remember, Florian says,
- 35:44Speaker 1: she taught him later he made a hat for Ors Junior,
- 35:48Speaker 1: as we learn in the Marine Force battle. This is
- 35:51Speaker 1: where he learned it. Oh, I do not remember that,
- 35:55Speaker 1: but Florian says, I think Lufy just wants to be
- 35:59Speaker 1: a cool samurai. That's understandable. Okay, I feel that, But yeah,
- 36:06Speaker 1: this sword is apparently in heirloom. It's like one of
- 36:09Speaker 1: the legendary swords. They're fifty fine grade and twenty one
- 36:15Speaker 1: Excellent grade and twelve supreme grade blades. Kittetsu in particular
- 36:22Speaker 1: has a rich folklore behind it. And he opened like
- 36:27Speaker 1: he's like getting real into his subject closes his eyes
- 36:30Speaker 1: and he opens them and movie's fucking gone, which is correct.
- 36:35Speaker 1: It's just, sir, I don't know who you think you're
- 36:39Speaker 1: dealing with, but I feel like at this point it
- 36:41Speaker 1: should really be self evident. So Hittetsu runs after him
- 36:46Speaker 1: and tries to be like, I forbid it, and Lufy says, fine,
- 36:50Speaker 1: then give me that one and tries to take the
- 36:52Speaker 1: one that is at his waist, and he says, the
- 36:55Speaker 1: one you have is cursed. It's a ghastly thing. You
- 36:59Speaker 1: don't want to wield. That whoever does will face misfortune,
- 37:03Speaker 1: which is that the one that Zoro had. I feel
- 37:10Speaker 1: like I remember the sword that Zoro winds up with
- 37:13Speaker 1: had been allegedly cursed, right, is this an additional cursed
- 37:17Speaker 1: one or is the same one? Did Zorro get his
- 37:20Speaker 1: own sword back? I can't remember what even happened there,
- 37:22Speaker 1: because I know they took custody of it when he
- 37:24Speaker 1: was arrested. So we begin heading out. Or Otama wakes
- 37:37Speaker 1: up and she is just like freshly hit by the
- 37:42Speaker 1: grief of realizing that Ace is gone and is just crying.
- 37:47Speaker 1: And I'm wondering, now, maybe he TETs his wings don't work,
- 37:51Speaker 1: because like he's just sitting there yelling at Lufy for
- 37:55Speaker 1: running off, but he doesn't even try getting up into
- 37:58Speaker 1: the air and flying after him. So maybe the decorative
- 38:01Speaker 1: I don't really know what the dealer is with them,
- 38:03Speaker 1: but okay, okay. So we're getting on the road, and
- 38:12Speaker 1: as o Tama begins to cry thinking about Ace, we
- 38:16Speaker 1: have the flashbacks of the relationship that she had with
- 38:20Speaker 1: all of them, and the way that they said goodbye,
- 38:24Speaker 1: and how Ace promised that he was going to come back,
- 38:28Speaker 1: And you know, I believe that he meant that shit
- 38:31Speaker 1: for sure, but she is sort of taking it out
- 38:34Speaker 1: on Loofy, which he accepts with good grace, just lets
- 38:37Speaker 1: her grab at him, stretch his face out as she's
- 38:41Speaker 1: just yelling at him. And then they reach the end
- 38:45Speaker 1: of the forest and they wind up in what is
- 38:49Speaker 1: definitely a wasteland. The foot of the dog hits a
- 38:55Speaker 1: skull to just signal, yeah, here's the point where everything
- 38:59Speaker 1: begins to just and he's looking out and it's just like, God, damn,
- 39:06Speaker 1: this really is a wasteland. It's all of these dead trees,
- 39:11Speaker 1: there's like some crows around, and in the distance all
- 39:16Speaker 1: of these different smoke stacks that are just pouring black
- 39:20Speaker 1: smoke into the air, and yeah, this, like the whole
- 39:28Speaker 1: thing is just a really bleak image. We have a
- 39:35Speaker 1: little interstitial moment, and when we come back, we're actually
- 39:41Speaker 1: back in town and we're dealing with fucking Zoro. Everybody
- 39:49Speaker 1: is talking about how they haven't caught the Slasher yet,
- 39:52Speaker 1: even though Slasher is dead. But you know, there there
- 39:58Speaker 1: was no proof when Zorro ca that guy, so they
- 40:01Speaker 1: can't there's no reason to believe him. But obviously all
- 40:04Speaker 1: of these homes are being searched for him, and we
- 40:09Speaker 1: see that Zoro himself is like off camping and hunting
- 40:15Speaker 1: and eating lots of these various animals that he has killed,
- 40:21Speaker 1: and doesn't he comments later when he's talking to Loofy,
- 40:27Speaker 1: how incredibly great the hunting, is not really thinking that
- 40:32Speaker 1: maybe there's a reason all of these animals are available
- 40:37Speaker 1: when there is a population that could be eating them
- 40:40Speaker 1: and nobody else seems to be out hunting them themselves,
- 40:43Speaker 1: you know. And obviously the meat does not actually taste
- 40:48Speaker 1: like there's anything wrong the uh, I'm sorry, guys, it
- 40:53Speaker 1: just got distracted for a second because there is there
- 40:56Speaker 1: was a roll of thunder. I don't know if you
- 40:57Speaker 1: heard that, but my dogs were outside, and so now
- 41:00Speaker 1: I'm kind of like, do I need to go grab them?
- 41:03Speaker 1: I only have fifteen minutes left on this episode, so
- 41:06Speaker 1: I'm just sort of keeping an eye out. But I
- 41:12Speaker 1: was sort of wondering if the meat was going to
- 41:14Speaker 1: taste like it was infected. Is the wrong word tainted?
- 41:19Speaker 1: I guess is the word I want? And it seems
- 41:23Speaker 1: not because Loofy has to warn him later and he
- 41:29Speaker 1: is like, oh, that makes sense. My stomach has been
- 41:32Speaker 1: hurting me and even though Lufy says to him, yeah,
- 41:35Speaker 1: the meat's poisoned, he just starts eating it himself, and
- 41:40Speaker 1: I was like, sir, please, But I kind of understand
- 41:44Speaker 1: it when something is you know, going to be bad
- 41:49Speaker 1: for you down the road, but you're hungry now, spoken
- 41:53Speaker 1: like a true person who struggles with eating, it can
- 41:57Speaker 1: be difficult, you know. So anyway, sorry, Florian says, Zoro
- 42:06Speaker 1: has the sister blade from the same line. Okay, cool.
- 42:11Speaker 1: So Zoro runs into some villagers who are making trouble
- 42:20Speaker 1: for this woman. I'm trying to get to the spot
- 42:23Speaker 1: where this even happens because it's such a weird thing.
- 42:28Speaker 1: The she's like running from them and they're chasing her on.
- 42:34Speaker 1: They keep calling them lizards, but they look like fucking dinosaurs,
- 42:38Speaker 1: and the fact that the people are just riding dinosaurs.
- 42:41Speaker 1: I don't know what to make of this, but this
- 42:44Speaker 1: lady is running. It is unclear what these guys are doing.
- 42:51Speaker 1: If it's like, oh, she said something that was against
- 42:54Speaker 1: our you know, ruling government as well, and so oh
- 43:00Speaker 1: this is our pretense to I feel like, because she
- 43:05Speaker 1: is pretty, that maybe there's this sort of underlying suggestion
- 43:10Speaker 1: of they were going to sexually assault her, perhaps that
- 43:14Speaker 1: they're just terrorizing her because she's beautiful and she's screaming
- 43:21Speaker 1: for help. Zoro steps in, and not only is he
- 43:25Speaker 1: just like totally willing to fight them on the principle
- 43:27Speaker 1: of the thing. When he was eating that meat earlier,
- 43:31Speaker 1: he wanted some sake to go with it, and he
- 43:34Speaker 1: spots that one of these guys has clearly got a
- 43:36Speaker 1: jug that's like hanging at his waist, and Zorro's like, oh,
- 43:41Speaker 1: nice sake, Yeah, I'll take that. So once he has
- 43:45Speaker 1: these two men soundly beaten, which does not take long,
- 43:49Speaker 1: this woman just watches as he chugs this sake like
- 43:52Speaker 1: it's water, and I just really want to know how.
- 44:00Speaker 1: I guess he's got a belly full of meat, and
- 44:02Speaker 1: so that probably helps keep it from becoming too much
- 44:05Speaker 1: of an issue. But I definitely was like, sir, you
- 44:09Speaker 1: were really gonna that it's coming back up if you don't,
- 44:12Speaker 1: if you're not a little bit careful about this whole
- 44:14Speaker 1: thing anyway. So this is when Lufy, like from far away,
- 44:20Speaker 1: spots Zoro and yells and it's so great. I just
- 44:24Speaker 1: really enjoy Zorro is so taciturn and stoic, so much
- 44:30Speaker 1: of the time, any moment where he shows some real
- 44:34Speaker 1: excitement about anything other than fighting somebody is enjoyable. And
- 44:40Speaker 1: so him seeing Lufy and being really excited and it's
- 44:43Speaker 1: just like you made it. It was just a really
- 44:45Speaker 1: nice moment. And Lufy like catapults himself off of the
- 44:50Speaker 1: dog and jumps on Zorro with his entire body, and
- 44:55Speaker 1: Zorro's like, is everybody with you? And Lufy's like, yeah,
- 44:58Speaker 1: but we got split up. They're okay, And then he
- 45:02Speaker 1: sniffs and this is when he's like, I smell meat,
- 45:05Speaker 1: Give me a snack, gimme, gim me, gimme, gimme. Tells
- 45:08Speaker 1: him that the snack is not safe, but then goes
- 45:11Speaker 1: ahead and eats it anyway. So at this point is
- 45:18Speaker 1: when Hawkins arrives, and Hawkins is I'm still trying to
- 45:28Speaker 1: really understand, because he asks Loofy, are you the one
- 45:32Speaker 1: that's behind the assault on that beach? Because I've lost
- 45:36Speaker 1: two subordinates and a baboon And he has these cards
- 45:41Speaker 1: that are telling him the likelihood he was behind the
- 45:44Speaker 1: attack is ninety eight percent, which you know, needless to say,
- 45:49Speaker 1: this is not how tarot cards work, but I accept
- 45:55Speaker 1: that they work differently for him because this is a
- 45:57Speaker 1: whole different thing. And Hawkins draws his blade and is
- 46:02Speaker 1: just like, all right, well, straw Hat is here, It's
- 46:06Speaker 1: time to deal with this fucking problem. And he begins
- 46:09Speaker 1: to approach and Lufy and Zoro standing next to each
- 46:13Speaker 1: other in their awesome gear with their swords. When Loufy
- 46:21Speaker 1: has this sword, of course, the first thing Zoro thinks
- 46:25Speaker 1: is like, uh, you're you're not a sword guy. I'm
- 46:28Speaker 1: a sword guy. What's the deal with that sword? You
- 46:32Speaker 1: should let me have it? You guys. This is so
- 46:36Speaker 1: funny because at one point when he's like, just give
- 46:40Speaker 1: it to me, Lufy literally says never, like the voice
- 46:46Speaker 1: actor for the Dubs says it in that way, and
- 46:49Speaker 1: I genuinely laughed because there was something about it that
- 46:51Speaker 1: was so it felt almost like Marv in the second
- 46:56Speaker 1: Home Alone movie, which I do not like the second one,
- 46:59Speaker 1: but there are moments so they are arguing about this
- 47:05Speaker 1: sword for a little bit. Loofy refuses to hand it
- 47:09Speaker 1: over and insists that he is going to make spaghetti
- 47:12Speaker 1: out of these guys shred them up, but jumps into
- 47:15Speaker 1: this fight and really, look, Zoro keeps saying you're using
- 47:19Speaker 1: it wrong. That's not how you're supposed to do it.
- 47:22Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sure you're right, Zoro, but Lufy looks
- 47:27Speaker 1: like he's doing okay. I don't know, he looks like
- 47:33Speaker 1: he's doing okay. I just think maybe it's not ideal
- 47:38Speaker 1: the way that he's using it. But what's going on
- 47:42Speaker 1: is very much Zoro wanting Lufy to not be using
- 47:45Speaker 1: it right because Zora wants it. That's what's really happening here,
- 47:49Speaker 1: which I do understand. So anyway, they get so caught
- 47:56Speaker 1: up in yelling at each other about this sword that
- 47:59Speaker 1: eventually Hawkins just says kill them to his own men,
- 48:02Speaker 1: and both of them are like, oh right, Hawkins is here,
- 48:05Speaker 1: which is truly a funny moment. Loofy chucks the scabbard
- 48:10Speaker 1: at them first for some reason, and then we have
- 48:14Speaker 1: the cavalry coming in. They are not on horses, I
- 48:17Speaker 1: will remind you. They are basically on dinosaurs, and Loofy
- 48:21Speaker 1: does gum gum pistol, but he just happens to be
- 48:25Speaker 1: holding a sword. It's not like he's using the blade,
- 48:28Speaker 1: which is what I think Zorro takes issue with. But
- 48:32Speaker 1: I think it's fine. He's having a good time. Just
- 48:34Speaker 1: let him have a good time. And the fight itself
- 48:38Speaker 1: is it's not like, this is not what I'm particularly
- 48:45Speaker 1: interested in all of these other guys. What I am
- 48:48Speaker 1: interested in talking about now is Hawkins, because there comes
- 48:53Speaker 1: a point where we land a killing blow and Hawkins
- 48:57Speaker 1: sort of slumps, but then the guy behind him just
- 49:03Speaker 1: suddenly there's a gash that opens across his torso and
- 49:07Speaker 1: he drops to the ground dead, and Hawkins just sits
- 49:11Speaker 1: up and it's just like, oh word, that was a
- 49:13Speaker 1: hell of a shot, and they're like, what the fuck?
- 49:17Speaker 1: And then we get the sequence that really had me unnerved.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Kids because Hawkins. I remember the straw thing, right, I do.
- 49:26Speaker 1: But Hawkins' arm, it's clearly made a straw, but something
- 49:31Speaker 1: begins to like poke its way out. This is just
- 49:36Speaker 1: really upsetting. I don't like it. It's a tiny little
- 49:40Speaker 1: figure that bears a strong resemblance to like a voodoo doll,
- 49:45Speaker 1: and clearly that's sort of what we're doing, is the
- 49:47Speaker 1: occult thing with him voodoo dolls. We've got the tarot
- 49:51Speaker 1: cards already, you know. I am sure that there are
- 49:55Speaker 1: going to be other things that we wind up bringing
- 49:56Speaker 1: into the mix. But for now. This is what we're doing,
- 50:01Speaker 1: and this doll is one of ten I think that
- 50:06Speaker 1: he has at this point. I don't know if ten
- 50:09Speaker 1: is the maximum that he can make, or if it
- 50:13Speaker 1: just happens to be that he has ten right now.
- 50:16Speaker 1: But he can take a hit that is a mortal blow,
- 50:22Speaker 1: and that damage will be transferred to one of his subordinates,
- 50:28Speaker 1: who will die instead of him. I am not clear
- 50:34Speaker 1: on whether the subordinates are aware that they are expendable
- 50:40Speaker 1: in this way. I don't know if they know that
- 50:43Speaker 1: they are on the table. I have to assume at
- 50:47Speaker 1: this point they've seen this guy's power in action, so
- 50:52Speaker 1: they must know. But that's really all I've got as
- 50:58Speaker 1: far as evidence is like Otherwise, it could simply be
- 51:03Speaker 1: maybe this guy doesn't take killing blows all that often
- 51:06Speaker 1: and they haven't actually gotten to see it in action.
- 51:10Speaker 1: I don't know, but I just look. I don't want
- 51:16Speaker 1: to get too preoccupied in what the power itself is,
- 51:19Speaker 1: despite the fact that it is quite cool, because I
- 51:23Speaker 1: feel like we need to spend a good amount of
- 51:25Speaker 1: time on the part that got me, which was the
- 51:28Speaker 1: look of it. This little voodoo doll digging its way
- 51:33Speaker 1: out of the straw of Hawkins's arm really distresses me.
- 51:39Speaker 1: I do not like this. It's so creepy looking. The
- 51:42Speaker 1: thing comes out looking like weirdly shriveled in a way,
- 51:48Speaker 1: you know, which makes sense as we're indicating that here's
- 51:51Speaker 1: one life down. You know. It's just something about it,
- 51:58Speaker 1: like pushing its way out of his insides that feels
- 52:04Speaker 1: like I shouldn't be able to see this. I don't
- 52:06Speaker 1: want to watch this, you know. And then there's the
- 52:09Speaker 1: whole aspect of the cards themselves. So the whole the
- 52:18Speaker 1: thing with the tarot cards is that he sort of
- 52:25Speaker 1: seems to be using them as a instruction. I'm trying
- 52:32Speaker 1: to think how to say this, because he says to
- 52:34Speaker 1: like Lufi and Zoro, do you want to play a game?
- 52:38Speaker 1: And he draws a card and it's the Fool reversed,
- 52:44Speaker 1: and he says, oh, that's a shame. The fool reverse
- 52:53Speaker 1: indicates internal strife, I think, is the way he phrases it,
- 52:59Speaker 1: which which isn't exactly true actually, but you know whatever,
- 53:06Speaker 1: And this leads to some of his men dying. I
- 53:11Speaker 1: don't remember if he kills them himself or what, but
- 53:14Speaker 1: it's like he interprets the fact that the card he
- 53:17Speaker 1: draws like means a certain thing to be that now
- 53:21Speaker 1: he has to do the thing the cards said. But
- 53:25Speaker 1: I think the way he sees it is the card
- 53:28Speaker 1: is like telling me the future and what will happen,
- 53:34Speaker 1: even though from my side of things, it looks like
- 53:37Speaker 1: you're letting the cards dictate your own actions, which is
- 53:42Speaker 1: a very real thing that happens when you try and
- 53:44Speaker 1: deal with people who believe in fortune telling stuff, that
- 53:48Speaker 1: they can begin to think that they have no choices
- 53:51Speaker 1: or they will make choices that lead to a thing happening,
- 53:53Speaker 1: and then try and act like the cards and told
- 53:56Speaker 1: me this would happen, And it's like, well, you made
- 53:59Speaker 1: a serioes of choices after finding out what the card
- 54:01Speaker 1: said that led to a thing, and that's not at
- 54:04Speaker 1: all the same. Actually, now, I just want to make
- 54:10Speaker 1: it clear for my end. I actually think that tarot
- 54:13Speaker 1: cards are quite useful, but I don't see them as
- 54:16Speaker 1: telling the future. I see tarot cards as a way
- 54:18Speaker 1: for you to like connect with your own internal like
- 54:25Speaker 1: what's the word I want? Like your gut instinct. We
- 54:29Speaker 1: often kind of know the answer to our own questions,
- 54:32Speaker 1: but we don't slow down enough to let ourselves hear
- 54:35Speaker 1: the answer, and using taro is just a really good
- 54:38Speaker 1: way to make yourself stop and focus and listen to
- 54:42Speaker 1: what your like greater like subconscious, I guess is telling you.
- 54:51Speaker 1: And by no means am I an expert in taro
- 54:56Speaker 1: at all. By the way, I know some of what
- 55:00Speaker 1: things mean. There is a certain pattern to what certain
- 55:04Speaker 1: numbers represent and what certain symbols represent that makes it
- 55:07Speaker 1: easier as you go along to understand. But it is
- 55:13Speaker 1: the meaning of the cards is loose enough that another
- 55:17Speaker 1: card being drawn at the same time can change the
- 55:20Speaker 1: context all of this stuff. The way that it's being
- 55:23Speaker 1: played in the show is a much more decisive meaning.
- 55:31Speaker 1: The fool reversed, which he says means internal strife, actually
- 55:38Speaker 1: tends to mean like it signals that you are walking
- 55:43Speaker 1: into something with a naivete and a blind optimism and
- 55:50Speaker 1: you are about to walk right off a cliff because
- 55:52Speaker 1: you're not paying attention. The fool, much like death, is
- 55:57Speaker 1: not an inherently negative card at all. It just indicates
- 56:00Speaker 1: a certain archetype and a certain mental headspace. So the
- 56:07Speaker 1: fool really is loofy I mean, in my opinion, But
- 56:12Speaker 1: because he is like that blind optimism is kind of
- 56:15Speaker 1: his hallmark. You know, there's not that doesn't necessarily mean
- 56:20Speaker 1: a bad thing, but it can if it's taken to
- 56:22Speaker 1: a certain extreme. And I'm trying to remember what it
- 56:27Speaker 1: is that he draws later, I think he's it's the
- 56:30Speaker 1: higher Refhant reversed, and the higher refin usually represents somebody
- 56:34Speaker 1: who is almost always a spiritual leader, and somebody who
- 56:40Speaker 1: follows the rules and is less guided by their internal
- 56:48Speaker 1: subconscious or morals and more by traditions and rituals and
- 56:55Speaker 1: practices that are already in place. But he said this
- 57:01Speaker 1: indicates pursuit the fool I could understand, interpreting it as
- 57:09Speaker 1: internal strife. The pursuit I don't see at all, So
- 57:13Speaker 1: you know, it does not matter. I'm just wanting to
- 57:15Speaker 1: in case anybody out there is wondering. But yeah, so
- 57:20Speaker 1: it's just an odd thing where he's like standing there
- 57:24Speaker 1: as Lucy and Zorro take off and apparently is not
- 57:28Speaker 1: going to chase them until he draws this particular card
- 57:32Speaker 1: and then is like, oh, okay, so I should chase them. Then,
- 57:38Speaker 1: you guys, this thing that he manifests is the worst.
- 57:46Speaker 1: It sucks. I hate it. I don't know what it's called,
- 57:50Speaker 1: but it's like a straw man that hovers over him
- 57:56Speaker 1: in this sort of cloud. I believe he is supposed
- 58:00Speaker 1: to be made entirely of straw. He does not look
- 58:03Speaker 1: like he is, because he's got a lot of color
- 58:05Speaker 1: variation and whatnot. I would venture that this thing, as
- 58:13Speaker 1: upsetting as it is to look at from just here,
- 58:19Speaker 1: if it had chosen to illustrate it a different way,
- 58:22Speaker 1: could have been even creepier. But they don't go that way,
- 58:27Speaker 1: which is fine. It just is also exactly Florian's in
- 58:36Speaker 1: the chat saying the sound it makes haunts me. This
- 58:39Speaker 1: is something that, because it doesn't actually say anything in words,
- 58:44Speaker 1: I expect that the sound I got from the dub
- 58:47Speaker 1: is the same as the sound in the Japanese version.
- 58:51Speaker 1: But you guys, it is a weird fucking noise and
- 58:54Speaker 1: it's like it's described as laughing, but it doesn't sound
- 59:00Speaker 1: like that to me. It's I don't even know how
- 59:06Speaker 1: to describe it. It's it's almost sounds like something on
- 59:12Speaker 1: a speaker that's like breaking up. And you know when
- 59:16Speaker 1: you use like a bluetooth that's got a bad connection,
- 59:19Speaker 1: or you have the speaker in one room, but the
- 59:23Speaker 1: phone's in your pocket and you start to walk away
- 59:26Speaker 1: and it begins to like break up. It's got that
- 59:29Speaker 1: sort of weird quality to it, and it's also a
- 59:35Speaker 1: like electronic noise. Like the sound is not natural. It
- 59:40Speaker 1: doesn't sound like the kind of noise that comes out
- 59:42Speaker 1: of a human throat. It also doesn't sound like the
- 59:45Speaker 1: kind of noise that would be produced by anything like
- 59:49Speaker 1: straw or hay. So I don't I don't know, but
- 59:56Speaker 1: it's very, very unsettling. And yeah, this thing, it's got
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: like these weird I'm trying to think what the word
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: is that I want here. It's my assumption because like
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: he uses his weapon, the straw weapon to take down
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: a bunch of dudes like on his own side. One
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: of them is he takes out a lizard mount and
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: I really felt bad for this poor lizard. It's on
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: his side and he just like punches a hole in
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: it in such a way. And you know, this is
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: all like going down as Loofy and Zorro are on
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: the back of the dog and fleeing because the little
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: girl is sick and they are trying to get her
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: to a doctor before it gets worse. And the dog
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: is starting to freak out a little bit because they've
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: been delayed by this fight, and she's getting worse. So
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: it's sort of like pawing at the ground and looking
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: at them like, hey, can we fucking get a move
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: on here, let's go, let's go. So they're fighting like
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: from the back of the dog in you know, lufy
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: is like punching into the air and whatnot. And uh,
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: the the way that this straw creature it's got like
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: fingers that end in knots and then these nails that
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: go through the knots. It's so odd, you know. And
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: I'm assuming that this is again sort of tying to
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: the voodoo thing, where it's like you drive pins into
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: the voodoo doll in order to inflict pain on whomever
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: that doll is supposed to represent. So I think that's
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: supposed to be where this is like coming from. And
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: also it's got these beads that are around its neck
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: and whatnot. Sorry, guys, I just got distracted thinking it
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: was raining. It's not. It's fine, but I'm assuming that
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: the beads have some other meaning. Perhaps that is, like,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: what's the word I want? A cult as well, But
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: I don't know, Florian says, I would call it a
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: straw demon. I think that's fair. Yeah, it's just later
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: it actually has like a weapon that it draws that's
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: like a big mace with pins coming off. It looks
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: like almost like Lucille the baseball bat wrapped in barbed
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: wire the Megan uses in The Walking Dead. This creature,
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: just sufficed to say, is really upsetting. I don't like
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: it and the way that it can just swoop down
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: in how huge it is really makes it feel like
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: our guys don't stay at a fucking chance, and I
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: know that they do, but this is probably this is
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: one of the more effective introductions to a power that
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: we have seen in a while. Dude is truly intimidating.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: And yeah, so that's how the episode ends, is it's
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: like bearing down on them as they're trying to flee
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: at top speed and it just is laughing with that
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: fucking voice. And that's the end of the episode. So
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: I didn't care for it at all, Just going on
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: record saying that, Yeah, I really liked these episodes though,
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: and I am super I really feel for Otama being ill,
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: and I hope that we find like, look, anytime that
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: things are about people who are like impoverished. It's always
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: going to get to me and I want this fucking fixed.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: And there's not an easy way to fix pollution that sucks.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: So I don't know how we fix this, but we
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: gotta figure something out, all right, I'm going to wrap up.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: Thank you guys again for hanging out with me. Thank
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: you Florian as well for being here in the chat.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: Appreciate you. I hope that y'all are enjoying the coverage,
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: and until next time to little motherfuckers. That was an
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: Unspoiled Network podcast
