- Aleta: Hello and welcome to besties do verticals with your besties, Lucy and Alita. Hi, I'm Alita. Lucy: And I'm Lucy. Hey guys, thank you for joining us this week. I have a little housekeeping before we start. So on Tauntboy episode, I realized halfway through our recap that I said I was going to talk about seducing my hockey rival and the whole what's up with Tyler having two different names. So it was Tyler and Mason and Mason and Tyler and super confusing. And so I randomly dropped in the middle of the podcast where the middle of the episode where most people won't even listen. I mean, they'll listen, but they're not gonna expect that housekeeping there. So anyway, I'm bringing it back to the beginning at this official episode. we found out from Cayman that that is the same person. It's just his full name is Tyler Mason. So sometimes they called him Tyler. Sometimes they called him Mason. It still wasn't super clear to me, but I like that that got cleared up. So thank you, Kamen. We appreciate you. We also wanted to discuss, well, I especially wanted to discuss our unstable release schedule that we've been having lately. yeah, oops. Aleta: Oops. Lucy: I will admit it started with the interviews. I think Alita and I are just still trying to get our kind of feet a little wet, just trying to figure things out. So we really appreciate your patience, but we are aware of how important it is to release on time on the day that you say that you're going to. So moving forward, this is our goal. We did try to do two podcast episodes a week. We are gonna tr we are basically gonna move back to one a week for just recaps. So we will release recaps on Thursdays. But we will go to two a week if we have an interview. So the interviews will release on Sunday. They should release six AM Eastern. if there's gonna be a delay, we will try to say it on our besties Instagram and maybe our TikTok. I think I I Aleta: Ooh. Lucy: think I think yeah, I think there's been a little trouble Aleta: TikTok. Lucy: getting some of the promo on there, but we will try. But that is our goal. I did also want to give a little glimpse into the future of what we're hoping to recap next. so today we're really excited about our current recap, Craving My British Cowboy, but we are hoping to do in his cold eyes next, which was also in my drama, and Love in the Ruck. I know people have been kind of interested to see if we were gonna recap that. We are. It's just we're kind of moving things around as, you know, things go along. Also, those could get booted if Andrew Tong's new one releases in that time frame, just so you know, because the man said he would Aleta: Ha ha. Lucy: come back on and recap with us, and we are very excited. He said he went. We'll poke him. Aleta: He said he would. Hopefully he's hopefully he hasn't had second thoughts. Lucy: don't know. We're we're still kinda cool. Maybe he'll come back. Aleta: Ha ha ha. Lucy: But anyway, so there we are for housekeeping. I just I kinda wanted to ask Alita how how you doing? How you doing girl? How you doing? Aleta: Well, you know, doing okay. We had a we had a great week last week. We had a wonderful interview with JP, director of Water Boy and Pool Boy and Stable Boy, and they were just an absolute delight to speak with. Really enjoyed that. Fascinating. Lucy: my gosh, JP, they have so much experience and their vibe is so Aleta: Ha ha. Lucy: soothing. Like you could just feel it through a damn Zoom type, you know, kinda online thing. It was crazy. So yeah, thank you very much to JP. For sure. Yeah, I feel like Aleta: How about you? Lucy: it's been yeah, well, I feel like it's been weird, right? Like we always have so much going on. We got you know fighting for what's right for the actors. We've got you know fun actor stuff happening, we've got new projects coming out. I you know I had vacation, Aleta: You had some vacation. Lucy: thank you. You're reminding me of my own life that I'm forgetting. I appreciate that actually. Aleta: Mm-hmm. Lucy: I did get two days off to touch grass, so that was really nice. And actually like fans and and friends actually really tried to encourage me to go touch the grass. So if I Aleta: Yeah. Lucy: was if I was online there was a lot of, hey, aren't you supposed to not be exactly so that Aleta: What are you doing on here? Lucy: was really nice. but yeah, no, I think I think it's been good. You know, we're just we're just moseying, we're just trying. Aleta: Doing our best. Mm-hmm. Lucy: Yeah. All right, but I think we should get into it, girl. Aleta: So today we are recapping Craving My British Cowboy, which is on Reel Short. And the IMDB summary is to inherit a massive family ranch, two dashing rivals must survive 30 days of rural life while dodging a murderous conspiracy and their growing feelings for one another. Bum bum bum It was directed by Dan Lowenstein and written by Octavia Mackenzie. Filmed and produced by Onset Octopus. Interesting name. Lucy: Mm. Yes. And it's so funny 'cause you said two dashing rivals and I liked that. And on mine it says two clashing rivals. That's okay. I prefer the dashing 'cause they are dashing. Aleta: It looks like a D. I might need new glasses. Lucy: It does, and that's okay. That's okay. That's okay girl. Alrighty, well. Aleta: They are dashing. Lucy: They are dashing. my goodness. The opening scene is a spicy montage of the leads, Lennon and Asher, played by Elliot Eason and Adam Santa Cruz. Asher is dreaming and wakes up with a start. We then flash back to three weeks earlier. Lennon Bowie is seen riding and speaking to Jasper. By the way, they said Bowie. But they said Bowie. Aleta: Yeah, the name. yeah. People pr sometimes pronounce it Bowie. Bowie Lucy: Well, just Aleta: or Bowie. Lucy: yeah, listeners, I'm gonna say Bowie 'cause I just know David Bowie and we're just gonna go with it. But I do Aleta: Yeah. Well, I mean, come on, John Lennon, David Bowie like slap the names together. Lucy: I like it, it's edgy. Alrighty. But Lennon Bowie is seen riding and speaking to Jasper, played by John Hoy. They are being spied on by Jasper's wife, Deirdre Montgomery, played by Amanda Jing. Aleta: Chiang? Yang? Yang? I don't know. Chiang? Lucy: Yang. Amanda Yang or Amanda Jang. I my apologies, my lady. We discover that she is obsessed with Lennon. Jasper is telling Lennon that he is done with Deirdre. He's kicking her out, and that he has filed for divorce. When asked about his own love life, Lennon admits that he's not interested in anyone. So ooh, we then immediately flash to Asher. We then meet Asher Montgomery. He's a big city finance guy. In the midst of his wheeling and dealing, his phone rings and we see that the call is from dad. dad. All the dad says is please forgive me. He seems to be having a heart attack. We get an image of Jasper who was in the previous scene talking about Deirdre. In the following scene, Asher is on the phone negotiating a deal when Lennon burst in to tell him that his dad is dead and the funeral is the following Friday. And then I remember like Like Asher looked so shaken, like very Aleta: Mm. Lucy: shooketh, and and and Lennon was so pissed off because he Asher was dismissive. So like Lennon was walking away and then almost stopped himself on the stairs and like realized what he was doing and then like turned his ass around and he was like, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have told you like that. Aleta: Mm. Lucy: know, that's a little insight into his character Aleta: Yeah. Lucy: at least. A week later we discover that the stock market has crashed and that Asher, like many of his firm's clients, have lost everything. His boss tells him to prep for an emergency board meeting, but it's the following day and he is gonna be at his dad's funeral. The boss tells him to be at the meeting, or he's fired. At the funeral, people are talking about how Asher was sent away to America and never came to visit his father when he moved back to London. When Lennon approaches Aleta: Asher says I remember you. Lucy: And Len encounters I remember us. Aleta: Asher says you were the best part of my childhood. Lucy: The lawyer says it's time to read the will, and Asher wonders to himself whether he has been disowned. At the reading of the will, we discover that the not quite ex-wife has inherited a life insurance policy of one million pounds, only if she doesn't contest the will. Deirdre is all over Lenin. Ugh. Yeah, this was hard. This is so crossing the lines of boundaries. The way she touches him and sits right up against him. I do love the line Asher says here though. Better be careful, she's gonna go do a l flying leap on your dick. And my god, Lennon's eyes just bug out here. Aleta: Ha ha ha Lucy: I feel like Elliot Eason did a whole lot of eyes bugging out. It was in this whole Aleta: Ha ha ha. Lucy: vertical. Like this poor guy. That's great. Poor, poor character. She thinks she is the owner of the farm now. However, Jasper made a new will. The farm and four thousand acres has been left jointly to Asher and Bowie as long as they live there together for thirty days. If they don't live together, then the farm can be sold and the money split between them. Asher is ready to sell, but Lennon reminds him how much his dad loved the farm. Lennon accuses him of being selfish and not visiting his dad. That he would have loved to have a dad. He begs him not to sell, asks him to think of the men who will lose their jobs and homes if they sell. There's actually a lot to unpack in this scene. A lot of great lines, repeated, perfect delivery, and emoting from Elliot Eason. It will be awesome actually when we recap Mafia's obsession because I also have so much to gush about him in that one. but we cannot forget Adam Santa Cruz either. Their exchanged just in the scene alone is beautifully done. The tension, the fear, the hesitancy, the pleading God I love them both individually and together. As Asher comes back to the farm he sees Lennon. Aleta: I love this, he calls him Cowboy Magic Mike. Lucy: Ha ha ha ha. Aleta: Damn him and his muscles and his perfect skin and lush lips. And God, I bet he has a six-pack under there. My god, he's so beautiful. Damn him and his pretty face. Lucy: That's right. Lennon makes fun of him stepping in horse shit in his Aleta: Mm-hmm. Lucy: thousand pound shoes and for wearing a suit and tie. And I just thought when I saw that. So gross. Ew. Aleta: Ha ha ha. Lucy: a very important part here as Lennon walks away. Yes, this is really important. we get a shot of Asher watching his ass. Lennon can tell and turns around and says. You looking at my arse big city? Aleta: No. Lucy: Whatever you say. Aleta: I wasn't in your dreams, farm boy. Lucy: And from there, Asher quickly follows Lennon inside, dragging his little suitcase along. And Aleta: Mm. Lucy: I just kept thinking I was like, don't drag it through the horse shit, 'cause that would be on my mind. Later on in the farmhouse, while Asher is lamenting that what his dad is requesting is cruel, Lennon tells him a month will fly by. Aleta: Asher responds, Speak for yourself. I need the sound of sirens and city trains and people getting stabbed outside my apartment to sleep at night. Lucy: Well, out in the countryside, we've got this thing called peace and quiet. You should try it. Aleta: It's like Lord of the Flies out here. Lucy: After some more delightful banter and Lennon suggesting they stay out of each other's way, Lennon says Your dad actually wanted me to show you a few things around the farm. Aleta: No, that's a little national geographic for me. I need the smell of pollution to survive. Lucy: Okay Alright I'll jump on the tractor, I'll rev it up and you can suck on the exhaust fumes. Aleta: That might work. Lucy: He looks so serious here. I love this line. We had to run these lines. I I love how serious Asher looks as he says this. And I need to comment on how talented of an actor Adam is. He delivers this subtle sarcasm so gracefully and it just feels dil like it feels like delightful, light British humor to me. I don't know. I love it. Maybe it doesn't to you, but I guess, you know, it did to me. As an American, I think he did a fantastic job of Coming from the American. also, Elliot is so on point with his expressions, his eyes just bug out. He stays almost politely silent when he needs to, and we can just read everything he is feeling by his expressions alone. I just it's fantastic. Aleta: Mm-hmm. Lucy: Lennon and Asher head to bed. Later they both wake up and run into each other in the hallway. Lennon is only wearing a towel, and Asher definitely likes the view. Aleta: Hasher's voice over. hello. Country Greek God Alert. Lucy: Yeah. Asher gets very discombobulated, that's my word of the day, and Aleta: Yeah. Lucy: suddenly says he has to go to the bathroom and walks back down the exact way he just came. Like Aleta: Mm. Lucy: the bathroom is where he was headed, I think. Lennon says, the fuck was that? Aleta: Mm-hmm. Lucy: The next morning, Asher comes out wearing a casual suit. Aleta: It's lightweight wool. I don't wear polyester. Lucy: Lennon tells him to change into some of his clothes. Can we talk about the camera placement of this scene where Lennon and Asher are bickering? Okay, they are the exact same height. And I gotta say, I love this. We always hear about how apps want to see a super tall guy with a shorter guy. When we have seen several verticals already with men the exact same height. And it's still just as hot and perfect. I I don't know, it really annoys me. Like, what are these apps thinking? Aleta: Yeah. Lucy: Like, why do they think we need a height difference all the time? There's been so many pairings we've wanted that I am pretty sure we haven't gotten because of the dang height difference. And you know what I think it is? This one was produced independently by Onset Octopus, and so from my understanding that gives a lot more freedom. And Aleta: Mm. Lucy: I think this is w why we have what we have here. But let me just say, I love it. Like we can do BLs with guys who are the same height people. This is proof. Like they look fabulous together. And Aleta: No. Lucy: they didn't look like they were having issues with camera angles in my opinion. Aleta: No. Greg and Andrew are only an inch different and they looked great together. Wait in Prince's First Love. Yeah. Lucy: I know it They looked amazing together. Yeah, and we talk all the time about like how one wasn't necessarily more dominant the than the other. I loved that. Like more of that please. Aleta: Mm-hmm. Lucy: Asher tells Lennon he doesn't have a lot of options in his closet. while previously making a disgusted face at the idea of denim. Asher, looking horrified at the animal skull on Lennon's dresser, says Aleta: You killed Bambi? Lucy: yeah, my first stag. Aleta: Murderer. Lucy: Where do you think your meat comes from? Aleta: The high street shops, obviously. Lucy: Asher looks disgusted, and Lennon looks pretty horrified at Asher's response. Aleta: huh. Lucy: When Lennon leaves, Asher pulls out a blue flannel shirt and in a voiceover notes that it smells like linen and then legit sniffs his shirt. That was cute. Asher freaks out in his voiceover and tells himself he's not falling for the hot cowboy. In the kitchen, Bernice is making breakfast and is thrilled to see Asher, who is still wearing the suit when he makes his appearance. Aleta: I love the warm, playful flirting here. Despite all the years that have passed, they're clearly still very fond of each other. Lucy: She remembers them as little boys playing together. She's made them a huge home cooked breakfast and promises to fatten Asher up. The men touch knees under the table. I laughed because when Asher came down, Bernice just shoved his entire face in her boobs. Like really got his face in there. I'm like, damn. But you know what? We like Bernice. Aleta: Bernice. She's lovely. Lucy: Hella lovely. They go out to walk the farm and Lennon is trying to teach Asher about the operations. He not so casually asks whether Asher's girlfriend minds him being there for a month. Asher says that he doesn't have time date due to his work schedule. He asks Lennon the same question and he admits that he doesn't have a girlfriend or a boyfriend. He walks away and catches Asher checking him out again. You checking out my arse again? He looks so amused. The next scene we rewind to a week earlier and see someone adding a dropper of a mysterious liquid into a decanter. Then Jasper comes in and pours himself a drink and calls Asher. We see him die, and Deirdre is standing over him. Back to the present, and Lennon is introducing Asher to the farm animals. We get Asher's voiceover. Aleta: Damn, he's hot as hell. Lucy: Cute little flirt here as Lennon tries to get him to touch the horse Luca. Aleta: No, I'm good. Lucy: Touch him. Aleta: Touch you? Lucy: And he looks down Lennon's body. What? Aleta: Sorry, slip of the tongue. Lucy: What's that? You wanna slip me some tongue? Aleta: No no Lucy: Are you hitting on me right now, big city? Aleta: No. Lucy: I knew there was a freak underneath there. Aleta: I'm a nerd. I like Lord of the Rings. I don't know how to flirt, okay? Lucy: Lennon distracts from their flirty banter and finally gets Asher close to Luca, telling him that the horse was his dad's favorite. Lennon takes Asher's hand and puts it on Luca. As they touch petting the horse, they look deep into each other's eyes, and we get a lovely, lightly tense moment where they almost kiss. And Asher proceeds to freak and say Yes Aleta: this is why I'm reading Asher right here. Lucy: You're just more of an Asher, and I'm more of a Lennon, okay? Aleta: yeah. Lucy: If we were together, I would be the butch, okay? Like just saying, I would be Lennon and you would be Asher. You would be my princess, my pillow princess. Okay? Just fucking saying. That's why I read the dominant characters, Alita. We all know it. I know we're gonna have a good podcast. But she goes bright red. It's the best. it hurts. Aleta: Tissue My eyes are watering. Lucy: it hurts so bad. Aleta: My god. Lucy: I think my ribs are Alright, here we go. Aleta: Right, let's just slide over that line. Lucy: No. No. And and I and you would be good at delivering it too, you know. He's got his little cute spazziness. You gotta deliver it like him. Yeah. Aleta: Thanks. Lucy: Well, I'm more of a spaz, truly. But yeah, she's maybe we do use video. Aleta: No, we do not. Lucy: Okay. All right. Aleta: Vaginas Did you know that ancient fertility cults worshipped vaginas? Lucy: You still do that, yep. Aleta: What? Lucy: Blurt out random facts when you're feeling nervous. Aleta: I don't do that, I'm not nervous. Lucy: Lennon says, Don't get things in a twist. Asher isn't his type. Asher in voiceover fights with himself, wondering if he's upset that he's not his type. Aleta: He definitely is. Lucy: Mm-hmm. In the next scene, we see Deirdre meeting Tate, played by Alexander Butler, and I think he's the farm manager. She tries to sow doubt about Lennon getting Jasper to change the will. and about the new will leaving half the farm to Asher, who knows nothing about the farm. She tells him that Jasper wanted him to run the farm, and that he should get the lawyer to contest the will. Aleta: I just wanna say here, like I mean Asher's getting half the farm because he's the son, like I he should be technically getting the whole farm, but Lucy: Right. Aleta: you know obviously they were raised together kind of as almost almost brothers. Lucy: For others. But that's why they but that's why they freaked out and did what they did, right? And we'll get into that. We'll get into that. Aleta: Yeah, yeah, true, true. Lucy: In the following scene, Asher is watching Lennon exercise the horses. Lennon tells him that he had been talking to Jasper about setting up an equine therapy program. Aleta: Asher tells him That's so unfair. You can't be gorgeous and kind hearted. You can either be hot or nice. You can't be both. Someone needs Lucy: Linen cap. Aleta: to tell all our BL boys that. Haha. Lucy: Right? Like holy crap, they are all so amazing. I Aleta: Ha ha ha. Lucy: was just even thinking about that with JP. I was like, this is an incredible human being that we just Aleta: Mm-hmm. Lucy: spoke to. And they're all like mushed together, like this group that we love like a lot, right? And so Aleta: Yeah. Lucy: like this is the group Aleta: They're all interesting and intelligent and yeah. Lucy: It kills me. Agreed. Lennon counters so you think I'm hot and gorgeous Aleta: Mm-hmm. Lucy: Lennon grabs Asher's jacket to pull him closer, but Asher chickens out again and runs off. So I've only ever seen Adam in my serial killer lover, but he's so good here. He plays bashful and blumbering so well, it's adorable. Aleta: Ha ha ha. Lucy: When Lennon returns to the house, he finds Asher asleep on the sofa in Jasper's office and reaches out to touch his hair tenderly. They share a memory of Jasper giving them a thick ear for stealing Bernice's apple pie, and Lennon tells Asher that she has one cooling, so they go off to get some. Outside, Bernice catches Deirdress spying and tells her that Jasper kicked her out for cheating. Your Vijay J has a shit ton of frequent. Flyer Miles Aleta: Yeah. Lucy: Deerjo threatens her. Accidents happen on ranches all the time. Once again, Asher and Lennon bump into each other in the hall. Lennon is in a towel, and Asher is staring something fierce at Lennon's chest. You starin? Aleta: I can't help it. You could at least have a flaw or something. It's fucking kind of rude. Lucy: Asher crosses his arms and looks very uncomfortable, now looking anywhere but Lennon. Lennon grabs Asher's silk pajama shirt. What do you want? Aleta: you. Lucy: Lennon looks at him intensely, and then still holding onto his pajama top, pins him back up against the wall. Ugh so hot. I love it when they do this. Aleta: did you know that foxes can run up to thirty miles an hour while looking for their mate and they can scream really loud. Lucy: Come here. Lennon then plants one on him and we are treated to a very sweet first kiss scene and a nice little song with it. This one was dreamy to me. I loved it. And real kisses. Good job, Elliot and Adam. Thank you for touching lips, good sirs. I do love how he basically shoves Asher onto the piano where it makes sounds because he's kissing Aleta: Mm. Lucy: him so badly. Passionately. Elliot is so good at his damn job. I'm not sure if he actually likes doing verticals, but verticals need him. Aleta: Mm-hmm. Lucy: He takes his job so damn seriously, and it just translates so well to us, the fans. Like, I love it. I want Elliot, I think, with all the BL boys. I think it'd be interesting. Could you imagine him with Declan? my god. Like, he thought Sky pushed him around. I think Elliot. Elliot might give Skye a run for his money in that department. Just saying that They are interrupted by a noise and take off to their separate rooms. Bernice appears and gives a little giggle saying Love is in the air. See, Jasper, I've kept your secret long enough. In the following scene, Asher comes into the kitchen to find Lennon cooking, shirtless, with bare feet and a cowboy hat. Aleta: Even his feet are sexy. Jesus Christ. He frickin' cooks too. If I had ovaries they'd explode right now. This man. Lucy: Asher claims that the previous night was a fluke and he's never kissed a man before. He says Aleta: Lies. Lucy: Grief makes you do crazy things and he pleads temporary insanity. Aleta: Methinks he doth protest too much. Lucy: He claims to be straight as an arrow. His inner monologue showed that was a lie. Aleta: I did the right thing. It meant nothing. who am I kidding? It meant everything. Lucy: Lennon puts the plate of breakfast down on the table and leaves the room without a word. Lennon is showing Asher the farm, and when Asher is concerned about the awkwardness that morning he says We have twenty three days left. Let's just keep it professional. Aleta: Boo. Lucy: A sweet moment when Asher asks whether their tree is still there. And it is, with A plus L carved in a heart. Hey, do you notice Alita plus Lucy? I noticed that when I was doing notes because I stopped doing Lennon and Asher and just A and L. And I was like, Aleta: Ha ha ha. Lucy: and you're Asher, and I'm Lenin, so it works out perfect. It's cute. Asher talks about all the things he had planned to do. Lennon says, Well let's do them and he says that he's doing it for those thirteen year old boys. Deirdre is still scheming and she visits Asher's former assistant to get some dirt on him. Deirdre finds a picture of Asher and Lennon as kids that Asher kept in his office. Deirdre pays her off to find out why Asher was fired. The boys are still walking the farm and come across their old treehouse that Jasper pulled down after Asher left for the US. They reminisce about the things they did as teens. So I started noticing this in one of the last scenes where Lennon was cooking for Asher. As time goes on, I don't know if you notice this, Asher dresses more and more down, like Aleta: Mm. Lucy: as each scene goes by. Lennon comments here on how he almost didn't recognize him without a suit and tie. And also I was gonna ask, how much time has passed, do you think? Because he was shipped off to America at what, age 13? I think it has to at least be. 14 to 15 years since then, right? Aleta: Mm. Lucy: So he must be around twenty-eight. Asher then is English. He's English born then. Aleta: Mm. Lucy: But he came back maybe ten years later with an American accent. Do you think that's possible? Like my dad, like my whole family is is from Boston and my dad had a really thick Boston accent, but he did lose it within like about ten years. But I remember it used to be really thick for him. I don't know. You're a language person. What do you think? Aleta: Well, it r I I was thinking that too. I like, why doesn't he have a l even a little bit of an English accent? Well, I mean, obviously 'cause he's American. But we've we've discussed how I was at school in England. I was at an English school in Spain and then I was at a an English boarding school in England. And I did have an English accent when I came back to Canada after like living living overseas from age eight to fifteen. But it wore off pretty quickly. But Asher was English to start with. I mean, I was Canadian to start with, right? And I just went back to to sounding Canadian again. But yeah, I I think he would still have a little tinge of it. People still say that my mum does, and she's been here since like nineteen sixty two. And I don't think she does at all. Like to me she doesn't sound even slightly English. But strangers always ask her if she's from England. So Lucy: Wow. Aleta: I I yeah, I think he would still have a little bit of it, but anyway I digress. Lucy: Okay, okay. Musings, musings. When Asher says that he never forgot those days or Lenin, Lennon asks why he never replied to his letters. Asher never got a single letter. This is an important moment. Aleta: Well, what did you write? Lucy: You promise you won't laugh? Well, mmm, my thirteen year old self used to have the biggest crush on you. Aleta: No you didn't. Lucy: Yeah, I did. Lennon starts to lean in for a kiss. Asher starts to pull away and his phone rings anyway. In a voiceover, Asher admits he had the biggest crush on Lennon too. As Lennon walks back to the house, Asher's boss orders him back to work, but Asher refuses and his boss threatens him. He still has two years left on his contract. the next scene is so cute. They go line dancing. They're having a great time flirting. Lennon makes Asher wear a cute cowboy hat until Aleta: Mm-hmm. Lucy: Lennon is approached by a pretty girl with whom he very clearly has a history. She tells him to call her and that clothing is optional. Asher takes off in a huff. Outside he's super upset that she was all over Lennon. You're jealous. Aleta: Screw you, Lennon. Lucy: No, that's your problem, isn't it? You want to. Look, okay? Do you want an epiphany, right? You're gay. Not even close to being straight. Look, I am not your therapist. I am not your experiment, and I am not your dirty little secret. You've got to decide what you want, Asher. Tell me, what do you want? Aleta: I want you, Lennon. It's always been you. Lucy: So cute. Aleta: Ha ha ha. Lucy: Asher grabs Lennon by the lapels of his jacket and yanks him into a passionate kiss. Woohoo, go Asher. This Aleta: Ha ha ha. Lucy: is very broke back mountain-esque when they pull out for the wide shot. The kissing. Aleta: Hm. Lucy: Deirdre is spying and takes pictures of them. At home, misses B is waiting. She tells them that Jasper regrets sending Asher away to boarding school to keep them apart, and that Jasper never sent the letters that Lennon wrote to Asher. She hands Lennon a letter that Asher wrote and hands Asher a stack of letters that Lennon had written him. Ugh and I know they are reminiscing about his dad and such, like they miss him and all this stuff, but I'm honestly mad. That was a Aleta: Mm. Lucy: douchebag father move. And I like how when they realize this, Asher rests his head on Lennon's shoulder. sweet. The next day on the farm, Asher is watching Lennon with the horses and thinking about how gorgeous he is. When Lennon catches Asher looking, he does a cute little head tilt to indicate to Asher that he should follow him. I like this part. Laura and I like to use this in edits. They both walk off to a more private location. sorry for what your dad did. He sent you away to tear us apart. Aleta: It's you, Lennon. It's always been you. Lucy: Lennon leans in to kiss him and we get a sexy song. They make out as Lennon pushes Asher down in a hay barrel. In the next scene, Lennon is telling Asher about his plans for a charity providing therapy horses. They are discussing naming the charity after Asher's parents when Deirdre shows up. She's engaged to dairy farmer Sid Gordon. She proceeds to constantly touch Lennon and then slap his ass without permission before walking away. I know we talk a lot about men who abuse women in these verticals, but it is definitely it can definitely go the other way. Like they really wrote Deirdre as a crazy, horrible, manipulative abuser who has no boundaries. And Elliot did a really good job going back and forth with like amusement, annoyance, and eventually slight horror. You can really see the horror in his face right here. The next morning they wake up in bed together. Lennon asks what they are doing here, and Asher says he doesn't know, but can't they just go with the flow? As they get up to head off to breakfast, we get Lennon's voiceover I have to be careful here. This obviously doesn't mean to him what it means to me. Ash has the power to crush my heart into pieces. How the hell do I protect myself from him? Aleta: God. Funny thing you're gonna laugh though here when he gets up he still has his boots on and like boxer briefs with a lipstick kiss prints all over them. Lucy: Fucking cute. In the kitchen, Mrs. B is cooking bacon and they have some music blasting. We get a sweet scene of Asher and Mrs. B dancing and hitting their hips together, bumping their hips together. It's so cute. I feel like it was kind of smart pulling an American actor across the pond. I think it really helped having Asher like feel like well, I don't know if I so I wrote here it really helped having Asher have the whole duck out of water thing going for him. that you would expect for that character. But technically he was probably back in London for a few years working for this company. So was he really a duck out of the water, you know? Aleta: Yeah, yeah. No. Well, I mean, I think he's more like that in with regards to the farm. Like he's Lucy: Yeah. Fair. Aleta: he's been a city boy since he was thirteen, right? He's not he doesn't feel comfortable on the on the farm really, which I totally get. I wouldn't be comfortable on the farm either. Lucy: No, not at all, not at all. There's a knock at the door, and when Lennon opens it up, it's an estate agent there to meet Asher and evaluate the farm for listing. Asher tells her that he didn't call her. He's surprised to hear how much the land is worth. Lennon is upset, and here comes Deirdre to store the pot. She says that she's his friend. Lennon tells her he's not interested and never will be. She claims that Asher will sell the land out from under him. She tells him about Asher losing money in the bank deal and claims that he will screw Lennon over. In the next scene we get a shirtless linen chopping wood. Aleta: clearly for therapy. Lucy: Okay, Alita, let's tell it like it is. This is for us. Thank Aleta: Ha ha ha. Lucy: you, onset octopus. More of this, please. Aleta: Well, there is that TikToker who who chops wood. Very popular. Yeah. Lucy: There's a few of them. There's a coup yeah, it was a couple of girls who do it and my god, it's it's hot as fuck. When Asher Aleta: The F bombs have started. Yay. Lucy: I know. Hey, it's only my first one. Yay. Good for me. When Asher shows up to tell him that he wasn't the one who called the estate agent, Lennon asks whether he is in financial trouble. Asher says that's personal, and Lennon replies We get naked and get in bed together every night. Does it get much more personal than that? Did you get fired? And when Asher my gosh, you got a big word I can't pronounce. Aleta: Prevaricates. Lucy: And when at prevaricates, okay, what does that mean? Aleta: Like Trying not to try kind of humming and hawing, trying not to answer, yeah. Lucy: Alitis the intelligent one in this duo. I love her. Aleta: Ha ha ha ha. Lucy: She teaches me things. Okay. And when Asher prevaricates, he asks why he's being so evasive. Asher admits that he is in financial trouble, but that he would never sell the farm. He wouldn't do that to Lennon or their family legacy. Aleta: If we were a straight couple, I'd hold your hand right now. Lucy: Their hands brush if we were a straight couple I'd let you. Aleta: It sucks that we can't be ourselves in front of the guys. Lucy: It's beautiful to see you embracing who you truly are. Aleta: Being with you is the most natural thing in the world. Lucy: Lennon overcome with emotion, knowing he can't kiss him, leans in to hug Asher. Aleta: You know what I did like? I liked that they had actual English actors for Lucy: That's Aleta: for the English people, you know? Lucy: Well, an onset octopus is a UK based production company and that's why. So Aleta: okay. Well yeah. Lucy: it's very rare to well, I don't know if it's rare, but I think occasionally they have a token American that comes over. But they f Aleta: Mm. okay. Lucy: yeah, they film in the UK and all of them are British, so it is really nice to see though. It really is. In the next scene they are playing the piano together. Lennon tells Asher to put his fingers over Lennon so they can play together. We get a sweet slow-mo scene here. Lennon leans in to kiss Asher. Asher jumps up nervous and says Aleta: Did you know the Three Blind Mice was written four hundred years ago about homicidal mice? Kinda crazy. Lucy: Lennon giving a look, sit down. Asher does but doesn't look at him. What are you afraid of? Aleta: We're not just a casual hookup, right? Lucy: No, we're not. Aleta: Because I really like you. Lucy: I know sweetheart. Asher. I know. I know. They gave him like I love it when they they do these I know when they say Aleta: My heart Lucy: sweethearts and babies. Like I feel like we don't get enough of that, you know what I mean? And the BL verticals for some reason. Like I just feel like that's really vulnerable and sweet. Asher lays his head on Lennon's shoulder. I thought that was really cute. All of a sudden comes a knock at the door. When Asher answers the door, there's a process server there. I started laughing because it's Ben. He's the owner of Onset Octopus. And I think this is his thing. I think he does cameos and like all of his own verticals that he produces. Aleta: Uh-huh. Lucy: Yeah. He's been served because his former employer is suing him for breach of contract. Lennon says they will fight it together. No one messes with my man, alright? Aleta: You're a man, huh? Lucy: Yeah, I own that ours, big city. Aleta: You're not wrong. Lucy: And he says it sheepishly. Okay, show me. And Asher gets on his knees and does just that. this I love this part because Lennon puts the hat on Asher and you like his cowboy hat and uses it to push him down. Aleta: Mm-hmm. Lucy: In the next scene, Deirdre is outside the bedroom window, taking video of them and literally shaking with anger. Bernice catches her and they argue. She slaps Bernice, who then runs her off the property. Deirdre gets into her car with a threat. You're old and you're gonna die sooner rather than later, and I can't wait to piss on your grave. Bernice is a total badass, by the way. She's right Aleta: I love Bernie so much. Lucy: she's so good. And she's so protective of her boys and I I love her flipping off the car as it drives away. That whole scene was pretty iconic, I can't lie. wow, the next scene is the shower scene. I'm not even gonna try to pronounce that right now this late. Thank you. I'm too tired. No, it's good. Aleta: Obligatory I'm sorry, you can tell I wrote these. Lucy: It's good. I need to I need to sharpen up my vocabulary. I just my pronunciation is always sucked to be honest. Like I I don't know did you watch Buffy? You watch Buffy, right? Yeah, like Buffy always fucked up words. And I was like, that's been me my whole life. I don't know why. Anyway, but yeah, we have these in almost all the BL verticals and it's great. There is hot kissing, shower kissing. Lennon pulls away and looks Asher dead in the eyes and says, I love you. Aleta: did you know Lucy: Lennon shoves a finger over Asher's mouth to stop him. I swear to God, if you blurt out a random fact Aleta: I love you. Lucy: He says it against Lennon's finger. Back to hot kissing. Aleta: It's really only kissing. As lovely as this vertical is, it always stops just short of being spicy. The kissing is good though. Lucy: Agreed. While this is going on, Bernice is having a smoke. The police pull up, Deirdre has filed charges and a restraining order for assault and battery. Bernice can't come within 50 meters of her or the farm. Deirdre is looking on from behind a car. The next morning Lennon is handing out jobs to the men when all of their phones buzz at once. Deirdre has sent them all a video of Lennon and Asher kissing. Their response is not good. Aleta: Side note here, Tate says that he will make sure that Lennon can never be farm manager, which like is super unlikely considering that in a matter of days Lennon and Asher will be the joint owners of the farm and Tate is their employee. Like who do you think you Lucy: Yeah, that was weird. Aleta: are throwing your weight around? Lucy: Right? Yeah, that was so weird. Aleta: Cheek. Lucy: agreed. his his friend's reaction is pretty devastating, especially Tate's, considering Aleta: Brutal. Lucy: what yeah. Considering what we actually know happens later in the vertical, like for real Tate. Stu Aleta: Yeah. Lucy: stupid. Asher finds him sitting by their tree. He's crying. He's devastated at the way the men reacted. Asher tries to sue them, calling him baby. I love it when they do that by the way, like Skye does it a lot. I love it when Sky does it too. They're supposed to be my people, my boys. You should have seen the way they looked at me. Aleta: I'm so sorry. Lucy: The names they called me it's like years of friendship meant nothing. They threw me away like I was nothing. Asher tells them they are just being assholes and give them time to process. Lennon asks who would take that video and do this? Aleta: Your men didn't know that you're by? No one should be outed without their consent. I'm so sorry that happened to you. Lucy: Lennon lays his head against Asher's shoulder. Aleta: I love you, big country. Lucy: I love you, big city. it's not how he says Aleta: Hmm Lucy: it, but I I I thought about trying to do it in an English accent, but it would have just gone as horrible as every other time Aleta: I can't Lucy: I've ever tried to do an English accent. Your English accent's lovely, I've heard it. You you still have it. We then see Deirdre sitting in her car in a fur coat, crossing names off the list. Just one more to eliminate. I almost have Lennon all to myself. Asher, I'm coming for you. Lennon is mine. Aleta: Holy Dulu. Lucy: Right? She sees her fiance coming and immediately turns on the waterworks. She tells Sid that Lennon is always flirting with her. She pushes until Sid gets angry, then says he should just scare Lennon. Sid immediately goes to the farm and punches Lennon. Tate gets in between them and tells Sid that Lennon is not into women. Asher comes up and introduces himself as Lennon's boyfriend, Q the Slurs. Lennon tells him that he's bisexual, not that it's any of Sid's business. Tate says that he has a zero violence policy and suspends him, even though Cid is the one that hit Lennon. Aleta: Again, dude, there are days before they own the farm and can fire your ass. Like, Lucy: Right? Aleta: who do you think you are? Lucy: Agreed, agreed. Lennon confronts Tate in the office, and it turns out that the reason Tate is being so nasty is that he is hurt that Lennon kept this huge part of himself from him when he thought they were best friends. Back in the city, Asher's boss says he can either come back to work or he'll be fined. Asher doesn't have money to pay a fine, and his boss suggests that the farm is worth a lot of money. Asher has to go back to work in fourteen days and he has to finish the two years left in his contract. Back at the farm they are cuddling in bed and we get Asher's inner monologue, wondering whether their relationship will survive being apart. Aleta: I can't tell whether the next scene is a new day or later the same day. It's a bit confusing on the timelines, but verticals often are. Lucy: Lennon has prepared a beautiful picnic. Asher says that no one has ever done anything like this for him, and that he worries that Lennon will realize that he can do better. Aleta: Dude, have you seen you? Lucy: Right? They are seconds from kissing when the phone rings. I like how Lennon tells Asher not to put himself down. Not for him, not for anyone. I like that. Deirdre has been spotted by the house. Lennon says she's harmless. Aleta: I kill she is. Lucy: Yeah. In the house she's crying and says Sid called off their engagement because he was jealous about Lennon. Lennon asks why, and she says, Have you seen you? You're so attractive. And Asher agrees. She asks to stay there until her inheritance from Jasper clears probate. She offers to do all the things that Bernice can't do now that she's not allowed at the farm. Lennon agrees. I didn't like that. I meant to note on that. Aleta: Boys, you're dumb. Lucy: That was very dumb. And I remember when I first saw the vertical, like I was like no, stop it was bad. We get the briefest three seconds of a sexy scene and then they are already basking in the afterglow. Denied Aleta: Literally. Lucy: right? Like come on. We No, Aleta: Like, there's that No. Lucy: just kidding. Yeah we get we get Lennon's back and it looks like something and then Q nothing. Yeah, I guess we're pretty spicy girlies at this point. That's okay. Aleta: I mean you are. Lucy: I am especially. But you just proved yourself that you might be a little bit of a liar. Just a little bit. Okay, okay. Aleta: Ha ha ha. Lucy: We all know how Alita really is. Everyone in Greg's chat knows. No. Aleta: Innocent Lucy: We know the truth. Mafia's obsession had all the things you want, by the way, just so you know. So when we do get to that, those parts will please you, Alita. They have a lovely little conversation here. Cats are dogs, kids are no kids, surrogate or adoption. Asher says it doesn't matter as long as they are together. Asher asks whether one day Lennon would ever want to marry him. Of course Lennon says yes, and another little kiss. The next morning in the kitchen, Deirdre is cleaning and has made them coffee. Asher is very suspicious of her and doesn't drink it. He tells her to stop being so handsy with his man, and when she leaves the room to clean, to snoop, he stops Lennon from drinking as well. She goes up and starts snooping through the bedroom they are sharing and hides something under the mattress. Tate comes into the kitchen. There's something wrong with the horse Luca. The vet arrives, but it's too late. my god. Lennon is devastated. He says to check the feed. The The vet notices swelling and redness around the horse's mouth. It's not an accident. Here we get creepy Deirdre's voiceover. The horse had to go, and the charity with it. Lennon, I need you isolated and alone until you have no one and nothing to turn to but me. Aleta: Dun dun dun Lucy: Ha ha ha. Dude, she is the worst villain in vertical history, except for maybe the mom in Love and the Rock. Both of these women were written so manipulative, diabolical, and almost so real. This scene where Lennon loses Luca blows. And to know that it wasn't an accident and that Deirdre murdered this sweet horse, she's worse than the mom in Love and the Rock, honestly. This has probably been the biggest complaint we've heard about this vertical is how much everyone hates Deirdre. Like the actress did a very good job. She she did a good job at her job. Aleta: She she made us hate her. They hate the character. Lucy: Yeah, my goodness. Right, just the character. I mean I think the actress was good. Just the characters a struggle bus, right? As Lennon, Asher, and Tate are discussing who would want to hurt Luca, Deirdre knocks at the office door. There's a woman at the door who claims to be Asher's mom. Asher is stunned to discover that his mom has been alive all along, but it is not a happy reunion. She tries to go in the house to discuss this with Asher, but Lennon stops her, calling her a psychopath for making her son think she was dead all these years. Asher's mom said she left all those years ago because he is homosexual, and then a mother knows. She tells Asher if he gives up this filthy lifestyle they can be a family again. As she goes to leave, I know. Asher runs out and grabs her and hugs her. Aleta: Ugh. Lucy: I know. It turns out she's only lived a couple of hours away from the farm this whole fucking time. So I do not do well with religious nuts, I can tell you that much. She's wearing that cross and just spewing hate. Like I felt like I was gonna lose my fucking mind watching her. She she pisses me off as much as Deirdre to an extent. Aleta: totally. I mean, number one, why are the mothers always so terrible in these? Like Lucy: I know. I feel I Aleta: can we not have one mother who's supportive and kind? Lucy: I know, we get supportive dads. Well, the mom in tutoring my rival boy was mostly good, but she did have her one crappy moment. Aleta: Yeah, she was good once she thought about it, but initially. But yeah, and yeah, I'm well, you know, I'm not religious, so but Lucy: I don't like it. Aleta: hypocrisy. Hypocrisy. Lucy: Yep, I don't like it. When Asher tells her that he can't give up Lennon, she slaps him. Lennon gets in her face and says, Don't you dare touch him. What does that make you feel closer to God? Does it? All that hate in your heart? And I say it so lame. Like the way Elliot delivered that, he was so passionate, so he was vibrating with feeling like he was not having it either. And fuck, Elliot Eason. phenomenal fucking job. I've loved you since Mafia's obsession, but I I I don't know if you don't like verticals or something, but do more. Aleta: Mm-hmm. Lucy: Do it do it for the do it for the fans, you know? You're just so good at your damn job. Asher's mom basically ignores Lennon and tells Asher goodbye. Asher starts crying and begs her not to leave. Lennon shouts to not do this to Asher again, but she leaves anyway. Scene was hard. Aleta: Yeah. I never had anyone like that in my life, Lucy: It's just hard to imagine people Aleta: It is. Lucy: being shit people, you know? The next scene Lennon is cuddling Asher on the couch trying to comfort him. Tate and the other farmhands come in unexpectedly and apologize to Lennon for their behavior and ask if they can still be friends. Lennon agrees. When they are alone again, Lennon asks what he can do. Asher asks him to tell him he's not unworthy or unlovable because his own mother left him. Fuck. Fuck that woman, man. Aleta: No thanks. I know what you mean. Yeah. Lucy: Well, you know what I mean? Not in a good way. Lennon says, Look at me. I fucking love you. I'm crazy about you. Tate comes running back in and tells them that Luca was poisoned and that the boys are checking the security footage now. For real, like shouldn't they have done that when they were first suspicious? Aleta: As soon as there was redness around the horse's mouth, it w should have been like, Okay, let's check the security feed and see whether someone's Yeah. Lucy: Right? It's crazy. All of a sudden, Deirdre comes upstairs with the financial fraud department, telling them they have a warrant to search the house. they immediately look right in the men's bedroom and find the folder that Deirdre planted earlier. Lennon says something's not right. You know, Luca, your mum, it's not adding up. They immediately arrest Asher for insider trading, embezzlement, and conspiracy to commit fraud. Lennon freaks out and tells him that he will call the lawyer. Now very much alone, Deirdre takes her chance and tries to comfort Lennon. I know. Later we see I know, right? Aleta: Bitch. Lucy: Totally. Later we see Deirdre meeting Asher's old assistant again. She gives her the money she's owed. The assistant tells Deirdre she's evil, who replies I know. You're worse because you actually think you're a good person while stabbing your boss in the back. This causes the other woman to run away crying. It's very aggressive Aleta: Mm. Lucy: crying. Back at the farm, Tate finds Lennon in the stables. Tate says they should have Jasper's body exhumed, that he had the same burns on his tongue that Luca the horse did. Lennon asked how Tate knew that, and shock, Tate confesses that him and Jasper were having an affair for the last year, and this is why I was extra pissy at Tate's reaction to Lennon earlier. His reaction was so visceral and he was Boinking his boss for the entire past year without telling anyone either. You know, that this little twist got me though. Like I didn't see that comin'. I don't know if you didn't did you see that comin'? Aleta: Yeah. No, not at all. Lucy: Yeah. That's good fucking writing right there, I'll tell you that much. Aleta: I yeah. Lucy: Apparently, this relationship was what made Jasper feel so guilty about separating Lennon and Asher when they were kids. Lennon says he forgives them both. I will say this. Lennon, you're a better fucking man than me. Okay, a better person than me. I would have been pissed, and I would have taken those feelings to the grave. Aleta: Mm. Lucy: Like, Jasper literally cost these two men like. fifteen years of time together and lied. But good on Lennon. He forgave both of them fairly easy. Damn. Aleta: Well yes, but did Jasper I mean when when he initially sent them away, sent Asher away, that was I mean that was over a decade before he started the relationship with Tate, so presumably he was deeply closeted himself, you know. Lucy: I think so. I think what's also hard, I thought about this near the end of the notes. How fucked up is it that he sends his only child to America w like, takes him away from his best fucking friend when his mom supposedly was dead. Like had just died. And he's like, I'm gonna Aleta: And there's lots of boarding schools in England if you just wanna get him away. Lucy: I I know, like why the fuck would you do that? Like why the fuck would you take him away from his best friend, the farm he grew up on, and take him away from his dad and and and he lost his Aleta: Bernice. Lucy: mom? Yeah, like what the fuck? Like I I know they're all singing Jasper's praises and shit, but I'm kinda like Jasper was really awful too. You know? Tate talks about how hard it was after Jasper died to hide how much he meant to him. Lennon tells him he will get Jasper's body exhumed. There's a mini scene I didn't really get right after this where the other farm hands come in and like Lennon tells them he's gonna prove Asher's innocent. It then cut it was like such a quick scene. It then cuts back to Asher's office with his assistant still there. I honestly would have thought she would have fled like Deirdre told her to. Lennon walks in and we have a name. The assistant's name is Mira. He doesn't work very hard, and she basically says right off the bat that Asher is innocent. Lennon asks if she can help him prove it. Aleta: something that I just thought of from earlier. When Deirdre came in and spoke with Mira the first time and sees the picture of the two of them, wouldn't Asher have packed that up and taken it with him when he was fired Sorry. Lucy: Maybe. Maybe he was like I dunno. Well, you know, it was the day before though, and I bet he didn't have a whole lot of time. Like yeah. Aleta: Things left for the plot, but I would have packed it immediately. Lucy: Back at the Yeah. Fair. Fair. Back at the farm, Tate comes to tell Lennon that the autopsy results for Jasper came back and they found the same poison that was used to kill Luca. They come to the conclusion that it must be Deirdre. Lennon is hanging around a tree on the farm in the next scene. Deirdre finds him and he calls her out for everything she did. She hits him and just walks away. Tate tries to grab her, but she needs him in the balls. Then here comes Bernice with a frying pan. Bam across the face. Damn! Get her! We love Mrs. B. Aleta: She's so awesome. Lucy: So awesome. The police come and take her away as she screams that Lennon is hers. He loves her and that this isn't over. The camera shows Tate Lennon and Bernice hugging as she is driven away. Yeah. Latza Aleta: I reiterate the Dululu Lucy: delulu. Episode 54. Lennon is sitting outside on a bench when he hears someone call his name. It pans to Asher. They run to each other and go. God I love this part. Lennon picks Asher up off the ground and spins him and it's so fucking cute and perfect and I'm obsessed. When Lennon puts him down he asks, Did I hurt you? Aleta: No no I'm good. I got a gangster tattooed for street cred. Lucy: Yeah, I hope you're joking. Aleta: No you know, my prison mate, he taught me how to make a shiv. I could stab anyone I need to. Lucy: Yeah, come here, you nutter. Kisses on the lips, the forehead, the cheek so cute. Bernice comes out to tell them dinner is on the table. Asher shouts to her. Aleta: Miss Bernice, a ton of prisoners thought I was hot. They all wanted this ass. Woo and then proceeds to slap his own ass. Lucy: So cute. We get a beautiful scene of a family type dinner with Tate, Bernice, Asher, and Lennon around the dining room table, just talking and enjoying life. They hear over the radio that an inmate escaped. And it's Deirdre. The scene moves to the living room where we now have the lawyer from the first few episodes hugging Bernice. They are talking about how the police still have not found Deirdre. Asher tells Lennon not to worry, that he will protect him because he knows how to make a shiv now. Mm-hmm. And that because he spent five nights in prison, it makes him super gangster. The lawyer tells them that due to Asher's wrongful arrest, A judge has ended Asher's contract with his employer. And then also proceeds to tell them, Congratulations, you are now officially co-owners of Montgomery Farm. The setting moves back to the stables where Asher is covering Lennon's eyes and walks him over to his brand new horse. His name is Pebbles. who has been approved for suitability and temperament for equine therapy. We get a sweet hug here. There's a part of the scene where Lennon and Asher are petting the new horse, and I can't help but think now of how Adam admitted in one of his social media posts that he learned on this shoot that he's actually really scared of horses. Aleta: really? Lucy: Yeah, so I just kept thinking, how did he hold his shit together during the scene? But his face did look a little tense. Like he looked like you would think in the scene he'd look like happy. Aleta: Yeah. Lucy: He wasn't smiling. We appear to be back in the city and here comes Asher's mom walking to her car, looking all nice and dressed up. She is apparently leaving and says Goodbye, Asher. She looks in her rear view and frickin' Deirdre pops up from the back seat. Aleta: Ha ha. Lucy: Yeah, like fucking serial killer shit. The scene ends with Deirdre putting a knife to her throat and the mom screaming End scene. Isn't that how you do it? End scene. How does how do they do it at the end? I don't know, that's what I thought. Six months later. We see Asher's old boss getting down on one knee and the camera pans to him proposing to Maureen Montgomery, Asher's mom's name, but the woman is Deirdre? Ooh. So I guess they are saying Deirdre killed Maureen and took her identity? Okay, Aleta: Yeah. Lucy: that's fucking weird. Damn, she's a true black widow, guys. I just keep Aleta: Yeah. Lucy: thinking here's the thing, I just keep thinking England isn't that big. Like, this isn't the United States. Like, they should be able to find this lady. She says in voiceover, lucky husband number seven. Aleta: Well, I mean, England's not that big in terms of area, but there's a lot of people in that small area, so Lucy: know, I just think of all the cameras, but finally coming to the end. The next episode. It's a wedding. Lennon and Asher are getting married on the farm with Bernice officiating. They start off reading their vows to each other. Aleta: Len, during our years apart, when I was away in boarding school in America, I thought I would never fall in love again. Or that I would be loved. Working long hours kept me numb, so I wouldn't feel the weight of my father's rejection. The loss of my mom, or the hole in my heart where you used to be. You are the miracle I prayed for. I love you so much, and I can't wait to start our lives together. Lucy: Bernice gives them the rings which are made from the bark of the tree they carve their initials in his lands I know There's so much sweetness to this one Asher When I was a kid I told my dad that one day I'd marry you. Aleta: No shit. I mean shit. Fuck. I'm sorry. It's a wedding. I'm not supposed to cuss. Sorry. Lucy: Hehe But he told me that the path ahead for us would be rough. But he also told me that love is the strongest thing in this world. The summer that I turned thirteen, I decided to tell you how I feel. I was so scared, so I wrote a letter. I meant it then and I mean it now. I love you, Asher Henry Montgomery. They kiss as husbands and we pan over and see the ghost of Jasper Watching his son get married and he has Luca, like the horse. Aleta: Ha ha ha Lucy: my god, damn you guys, that made me tear up. At first I was like, how Star Wars of them. Aleta: Ha ha ha ha. Lucy: But then when they had the horse with him, I'm like, that hurts. It hurts. The rest of the episode is a montage of dancing, kissing, and their guests celebrating them. Aleta: Am I dreaming? Are you really mine? Lucy: Been yours my whole life. Always will be. had some thoughts here. I was wondering if this marriage scene was their like actual first day of shooting. I don't know if there was something going on, but the two of them were a little stiff with each other compared to the other episodes. Like that was just what caught my eye. Like, maybe they you know, you know how like I pay really close attention to the kissing and all this shit, right? That's why. Like, nah, but yeah. Aleta: No Lucy: So like maybe they just met and had to kiss and be all close and lovey dovey. And you know, I'm hearing from the actors they need at least a day or two to get their stride, right? So like I could be totally wrong, you know, who knows? Maybe Adam had a bad horse day. Like, I don't know, it could be that. We get hot kisses in the shower after this, then the very end of Boom Boom so just the end of it again where Asher says Aleta: Damn, married sex is hot. Lucy: Good job, Alita. We have sweet scenes. Aleta: I swear to God. Lucy: I love it. Subest. Subest. We have sweet scenes where they call each other by their new names Mr. Bowie Montgomery. Aw, they hyphenated. I love the ending to the scene. Lennon takes his cowboy hat and covers the camera with it as he kisses his new husband. In the very last episode, we get a montage of scenes as Asher narrates where everyone ended up. Tate fell in love with a drag queen named Duchess Red Velvet. Mira married one of the farmhands, Cam, and they lived close to Lennon and Asher. Mrs. B. started shacking up with a lawyer, Ken, we have a name since the guy's wedding. Lennon's charity got awarded by the king for all the good his horses do for healing trauma and grief. Asher says Aleta: I'm in awe of my cowboy. Lucy: Asher then shares he started his own charity of helping single moms become wealthy. Ooh, help me out, Asher. Aleta: Ha ha. Lucy: But the role he is most proud of is being a husband. The camera pans to Lennon who catches Asher checking him out. You looking at my ars again? Aleta: Always. Lucy: Lennon and Asher walk off into the metaphorical sunset. Aw, vertical ends. Alita, what did you think? Aleta: I thought it was really good. I really liked I liked the look of it. Again, it looked more like a TV show than a vertical. it I liked I mean, although we knew who it was all along, there was sort of that mystery element from their point of view in terms of figuring out who was who done it. I would like to see a real mystery. Anyway. vertical. But yeah, I liked the appear the Lucy: That'd be cool. Aleta: appearance of it. I liked the story was sweet. the acting was great. could be spicier, Lucy: Yeah. Aleta: but but really sweet. Yeah. I really enjoyed it. Lucy: Yeah, I agree. It was really well done. mine is so long. Sorry guys. Aleta: Yeah. Lucy: I have a lot to say. Overall, I think this is in my top five. I know I say that a lot when new verticals release. Aleta: Wow. You do. Lucy: I do. But here's the thing. A lot of them seem to be just getting better and better and they keep bumping the other ones out of their spot. Aleta: Mm. Lucy: So if we ever catch up on all the releases, maybe I can make like a real list of my top ten or twenty, maybe. So I knew about this vertical before a lot of other people did, so did Alita. I follow Onset Octopus on Instagram and they had posted some hints that they were doing a BL. And honestly when Onset Octopus does things, I usually think it's a BL, but I do know they do straight stuff too. I also followed Jen Cooper, Adam, and Elliot, so eventually I kind of pieced it all together fairly quickly while they were filming. honestly, guys, the level of excitement that I freaking felt when we figured this out, I have already loved Elliot from Mafia's Obsession with Alexander Lucas Wilson. he was so rough, hard, and gritty, and he gave absolutely every part of himself to playing Pier Tro, Petro, Pier Tro, Petro, anyway. Aleta: Pietro. Lucy: Pietro, that's the right way. They say it's so sexy and I'm fucking it up. But anyway, Pietro in that. Aleta: Pietro. Lucy: Anyway, I just knew he would do the same thing here with Lennon. And I had seen Adam in my serial killer lover. That was one of the first Western BLs I'd ever seen. And honestly, I was so impressed with Adam and Andre in that. So I just knew. I knew it would be beyond good. And it was. There was unfortunately stage kissing in my serial killer lover. So I wasn't sure what to expect from this with Adam, but Adam did not do us dirty. I really think Adam and Elliot are some of the best actors we have in the vertical space. The fact that they got them together is huge. I I think some things were tough. I don't do well with Animal Death. Thankfully they kept that fairly light and quick. But of course the way Elliot reacted in that damn scene, ugh, he got me. The actress who played Deirdre did an amazing job, but this poor gal, I wonder if she realizes that the entire fandom really struggled with her character. I think her villain is considered the worst ever created so far. I loved the supporting characters. The actors did a wonderful job. A serious soft spot for Bernice. I know you wanted more spice, but I actually did okay with this. I was surprised. And and of course I all Yeah. Yeah. Aleta: I mean I do t I did too. I I it was it was lovely. I I'm not putting it down, but yeah. It was just like, Lucy: You're not ha yeah, for sure. We're just a little spicy girls these days. Aleta: okay, now there's gonna be spice denied, you know, like Lucy: It it was a lot of that. It was like especially at the end of it. I was like, can you just give us a little something something? And I know onset Octopus is capable of it because of Mafia's God, I can't wait for you to see Mafia's Obsession. So g I don't Aleta: Ha ha ha. Lucy: know if you're gonna like it as much as this one because Mafia's Obsession is very gritty and dark, but it's so good. So good. You know me, I love dark romance. Aleta: I don't no I don't get the obsession with mafia verticals. There's so Lucy: Fair. That's fair. Aleta: many of them. What the hell? Lucy: Yeah, but there's not a lot of BL ones. I think there's only two. Maybe three. I don't know. But you're right. You're right. Okay, but yeah, of course I always want more spice, but they did, I think, pretty good with the suggestive parts, and I dug that. I was so impressed with the filmmaking itself as well. They had really beautiful aerial shots of Elliot riding the horses. They had gorgeous shots of the horses running around the paddock. I feel like they made a lot of effort to make this production really beautiful. I feel like a lot of thought was put into this. Like, you know what we haven't spoken about yet actually? I think it's one of the most important things actually. The f the freaking writing. This was written by Octavia J. Mackenzie, and I cannot sing this woman's praises enough. The dialogue she created, the passion that I think was there with just the words. Yeah, the actors brought it to life, but damn. I know it was probably so beautiful just on the page itself. I think I even remember Adam saying he was impressed with the script. I just don't know where I heard that from. She really got me. too on a few things. Like I did not see the Tate and Jasper thing coming. I was speculative on the mom thing. I thought it could happen, but I was kinda hoping it wouldn't. But seriously, Octavia knows how to write. They need to keep hiring this gal for verticals. She knows what she is doing. So I know this was long-winded, but honestly, I just have to sing this vertical's praises. I am so appreciative for this masterpiece and the effort that was clearly put into it. It really meant a lot to see a story like this as a queer person. So beautifully done. Okay, I'm done. Aleta: It was beautifully done. Well, besties, on that note, it's time for us to say goodbye. We hope that you'll join us next time. Bye, besties. Lucy: Bye besties
