- 0:00Speaker 1: The Coastguard. But anyway, very proud, proudest moment in my
- 0:04Speaker 1: life or one of them for sure, maybe the most
- 0:06Speaker 1: proud I've ever been.
- 0:07Speaker 2: To your granddad, from either your son or your daughter.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Then you're gonna be like, well.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Well, I already knew it was gonna be a grand event.
- 0:13Speaker 1: We had twelve of our family members there in Connecticut
- 0:16Speaker 1: with us. We rented a big house on the ocean
- 0:18Speaker 1: in New London, Connecticut, and it was a family reunion
- 0:20Speaker 1: for that. But then when the night I got there,
- 0:24Speaker 1: Saturday night, my daughter tells me, Dad, I got a
- 0:27Speaker 1: special exempt And usually active duty officers and retirees put
- 0:32Speaker 1: on their uniforms and can be the presenters to graduates
- 0:36Speaker 1: at the Coast Guard Academy to present them with their
- 0:39Speaker 1: certification of commissioning into the active duty service as an officer.
- 0:43Speaker 1: And of course I don't have retired status. I wasn't
- 0:46Speaker 1: in for twenty years in the Army. I was in
- 0:48Speaker 1: for five, so I have a veteran status. So there's
- 0:50Speaker 1: a distinction there. You don't wear your uniform and your
- 0:52Speaker 1: veteran not retired. My daughter asked if I could wear
- 0:55Speaker 1: my dress white uniform as a captain in the Army.
- 0:58Speaker 1: So well, technically that's against regular relations because I don't
- 1:01Speaker 1: have retired status. So I knew there'd be a ton
- 1:03Speaker 1: of brass there generals, general officers and admirals, and I
- 1:06Speaker 1: didn't want to go show up as a fifty five
- 1:08Speaker 1: year old captain in three It looked pretty obvious I
- 1:11Speaker 1: shouldn't beware of that uniform. So but my daughter said, Dad,
- 1:15Speaker 1: I got a special I got, I rerouted a special
- 1:18Speaker 1: request to have you present me with my certificate of
- 1:23Speaker 1: commissioning after she got her diploma on stage from the
- 1:26Speaker 1: Admiral of the Coastguard comment out of the Coast Guard,
- 1:30Speaker 1: and I was blown away that she would even ask me. So,
- 1:33Speaker 1: Dara was sitting in this VIP section on the floor
- 1:36Speaker 1: of the graduation ceremony on the outdoor state of Football
- 1:40Speaker 1: Stadium and the Coast Guard Academy, among uniformed generals and admirals.
- 1:46Speaker 1: More to the point, with all the Coast Guards there,
- 1:48Speaker 1: and there's just me and my suit. I was one
- 1:51Speaker 1: of the probably fifty percenters a class of two hundred
- 1:54Speaker 1: and fifty, and I was in a suit among maybe
- 1:57Speaker 1: ten other civilian clothed people. Among all was heavy brass
- 2:01Speaker 1: and general officers. That was yeah, it was great. I
- 2:05Speaker 1: stood up next to the Commandant of the Coast Guard
- 2:07Speaker 1: and presented my daughter here commissioning. It's a new ensign
- 2:09Speaker 1: in the Coast Guard, and we hugged and post for
- 2:12Speaker 1: great pictures. The local newspaper in New London the day
- 2:17Speaker 1: got a picture of us on stage was smiling and
- 2:20Speaker 1: hugging and thumbs up and it was. It was great.
- 2:23Speaker 1: It was. It was also ninety five degrees. It was
- 2:25Speaker 1: the hottest. They think it was the hottest ever because
- 2:28Speaker 1: these is mid May in Connecticut. It was the hottest
- 2:30Speaker 1: ever Coast Guard Academy graduation. And the presidents spoke and
- 2:38Speaker 1: I first of all, because the President came, we had
- 2:42Speaker 1: to be there four three and four hours early. I
- 2:44Speaker 1: was there at seven fifteen in the stadium for an
- 2:47Speaker 1: eleven o'clock graduation on a clear, broiling day, so some
- 2:53Speaker 1: of us are out in the sun with no shade.
- 2:55Speaker 1: By the way, they had to take any the stadium
- 2:57Speaker 1: didn't have shade. But if they wanted to put partitions
- 2:59Speaker 1: in sh over the crowd, they weren't going to do
- 3:01Speaker 1: it because that would of course obscure the snipers in
- 3:03Speaker 1: the Secret Service and being able to see the crowd
- 3:06Speaker 1: during the ceremony, and there were secret services. Ever, there
- 3:09Speaker 1: was a secret service a guy. I went to go
- 3:11Speaker 1: get some water. At the end of the President speaking
- 3:13Speaker 1: for an hour, it was fifty two minutes total. Again,
- 3:18Speaker 1: I'm just staying in fact, I'm not stating the president's
- 3:21Speaker 1: book for fifty two minutes, not all of it on subject.
- 3:24Speaker 1: And when I went back to get water and came
- 3:27Speaker 1: back to my seat, which is about fifteen feet to
- 3:29Speaker 1: the left of the president, oh maybe thirty feet to
- 3:31Speaker 1: the left of the President on the stage, a Secret
- 3:34Speaker 1: Service guy walked up and said, where you going? Are
- 3:36Speaker 1: you going back to your seat? I said, yes, I'm
- 3:38Speaker 1: right here, sir. I walked another five feet to my
- 3:40Speaker 1: seat and sat right down. Anyway, because of the President
- 3:43Speaker 1: being there, it was a sweltering day for the fan
- 3:47Speaker 1: the family members who had to be there so early,
- 3:50Speaker 1: eight seven, eight o'clock for an eleven o'clock ceremony, and
- 3:53Speaker 1: but they were dropping. Man, they were medics going into
- 3:56Speaker 1: the crowd pulling people out of there who had fainted
- 3:58Speaker 1: and had heat exhausted and in heat illnesses. And the
- 4:02Speaker 1: medic tent was just full and any people ended up
- 4:06Speaker 1: retiring to the hillside where the only shade in the
- 4:08Speaker 1: stadium was and the President rolled in, talked for fifty
- 4:13Speaker 1: two minutes, rolled back out, and then Air Force one
- 4:16Speaker 1: flies over the graduation right along the Thames River in Connecticut,
- 4:21Speaker 1: and the colonel in the Marine colonel next to me,
- 4:27Speaker 1: who was a presenter, turns me and says, Wow, isn't
- 4:30Speaker 1: that amazing. You don't see that every day. And I
- 4:32Speaker 1: couldn't help it it and just said, well, Commander in
- 4:35Speaker 1: chiefs don't usually leave during the ceremony. They stayed to
- 4:39Speaker 1: present the diplomas to the graduates. The President did the
- 4:42Speaker 1: same thing last year at the West Point commencement ceremony. Anyway,
- 4:48Speaker 1: the little taste to where I've been the last four days,
- 4:50Speaker 1: and I apparently I missed a few things, but I
- 4:53Speaker 1: was deep into what was one of the proudest moments
- 4:56Speaker 1: in my life. It was really cool. I have some
- 4:58Speaker 1: pictures and videos up and my Twitter ex account at
- 5:01Speaker 1: g Bell Seattle if you want to see him, and
- 5:03Speaker 1: just trying to share a taste of what it was like.
- 5:05Speaker 1: And it was cool. It was really cool. And you
- 5:08Speaker 1: just went to a graduation with family in New Orleans.
- 5:10Speaker 1: You know how a proud moment that is for.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Yeah, man, I'm glad you got to take some photos.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I saw that on social media, so that was really cool.
- 5:16Speaker 2: And I'm glad you had a good time, a good
- 5:18Speaker 2: week off, been with the family and some friends and
- 5:21Speaker 2: just soaking up baby girl doing her thing and graduating.
- 5:24Speaker 1: That's really cool. Congratulations Bail family, Thank you. I'm glad
- 5:28Speaker 1: I had sunglasses on because I was crying my eyes
- 5:32Speaker 1: out on the stage, as you should. It was amazing. Overwhelmed,
- 5:36Speaker 1: she hears of joy. She wanted to quit. She wanted
- 5:38Speaker 1: to quit many times in her four years, including the
- 5:40Speaker 1: very first weekend we were there, or I was allowed
- 5:43Speaker 1: to be there, the first weekend that families were allowed
- 5:45Speaker 1: to visit. Were three weeks into her basic training summer
- 5:49Speaker 1: four years ago, and they had a parade at the
- 5:52Speaker 1: Mystic Seaport in Connecticut, a historic seaport on the Mystic River,
- 5:56Speaker 1: and at the ceremony she said, Dad, I'm quitting. I'm
- 5:58Speaker 1: coming home. I laughed, and I said, well, first of all, honey,
- 6:03Speaker 1: you're considered to be on active DOUE. You are taking
- 6:05Speaker 1: an oath of office and to swear into being a
- 6:07Speaker 1: Coastguard cadet. If you just up and leave your a wall,
- 6:10Speaker 1: you just can't do that. Come find you and put
- 6:13Speaker 1: you in jail. So it's just not that easy. But
- 6:16Speaker 1: then we talked about all that she had done to
- 6:17Speaker 1: get there, and now she could look. I said, nobody
- 6:20Speaker 1: comes to be a cadet to get yelled and screamed
- 6:21Speaker 1: at and haze like you are right now. And her
- 6:23Speaker 1: hair was short, and she was exhausted, and she'd lost
- 6:26Speaker 1: a ton of weight and she looked like she was
- 6:28Speaker 1: forty pounds, And I said, nobody comes for this. Stay.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Get to the point where you make it a challenge
- 6:36Speaker 1: to yourself too. I can do this that nobody's going
- 6:39Speaker 1: to break me. That's what I did to myself at
- 6:41Speaker 1: West Point and it worked. She stayed, and she hated it,
- 6:47Speaker 1: but she found the crew team her freshman year. Walked
- 6:50Speaker 1: on to the crew to I don't want to bore
- 6:53Speaker 1: everyone with the details of that story was amazing for us,
- 6:56Speaker 1: But the gist of it was she and thirteen other
- 6:59Speaker 1: freshmen were from the soccer team they'd been invited on
- 7:01Speaker 1: when she had decided to attend the Coastguard Academy. Thirteen
- 7:04Speaker 1: freshman cut on the first day of the academic year
- 7:07Speaker 1: her freshman years, she getting screamed at and not eating
- 7:09Speaker 1: all this stuff, and she was desponding. She called me
- 7:13Speaker 1: there and said, I'm quitting again. That was at the
- 7:14Speaker 1: end of the summer. And then she went to the
- 7:17Speaker 1: gym and found the captain of the rowing team just
- 7:21Speaker 1: happened to be in their lifting weights and she had
- 7:22Speaker 1: a Coast Guard rowing sweatshirt on, and she had remember
- 7:25Speaker 1: my daughter had remembered that I told her when I
- 7:27Speaker 1: worked at the University of Washington. That's Bob Burns, the
- 7:31Speaker 1: longtime coach of the men and the women's team, and
- 7:33Speaker 1: Michael Callahan both told me that they go to other
- 7:36Speaker 1: sports finals at the Washington State high school championships volleyball, basketball, swimming,
- 7:42Speaker 1: to find grit, to find competitors, and they sit up
- 7:44Speaker 1: in the stands and they go, that's somebody I want
- 7:46Speaker 1: on the Washington crew team, and that they often recruit
- 7:49Speaker 1: from the state championships of other sports just based on
- 7:52Speaker 1: someone's grit and persona on the floor and on the
- 7:55Speaker 1: court and on the field. Not with any rowings. No,
- 7:58Speaker 1: they said, well, we'll teach you how to row. We
- 7:59Speaker 1: want grit and My daughter said that that day she
- 8:02Speaker 1: got cut from the soccer team. She at the Coastguard Academy.
- 8:06Speaker 1: She remembered me telling her that, and when she saw
- 8:09Speaker 1: the crew team sweatshirt that this woman was wearing, she
- 8:12Speaker 1: walked up and said, I just got cut from the
- 8:14Speaker 1: soccer team. I think im I'm leaving this place because
- 8:15Speaker 1: I need something, something familiar in sport to keep me here.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Can I come on the crew team? And the captain said,
- 8:22Speaker 1: come to practice tomorrow, and she did, and she showed
- 8:25Speaker 1: up in the coach Coach Dolittle Andrew Doolittle at the
- 8:28Speaker 1: Coastguard Academy. Our family owes my daughter graduating and becoming
- 8:32Speaker 1: an incident the Coast Guard thanks to coach doo Little.
- 8:34Speaker 1: And I told her that at the graduation on Wednesday,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and she told the coach dil Little to said, oh
- 8:40Speaker 1: you want to show Okay, you're showing up. Get on
- 8:42Speaker 1: the ERG the rowing machine. Okay, Sarah's never been on
- 8:47Speaker 1: it maybe one time in her life, been on her
- 8:48Speaker 1: down a green lake. She banging out two minutes or
- 8:51Speaker 1: five minutes. It was five minutes on an hERG said
- 8:54Speaker 1: she wanted to throw up, and then the coach she
- 8:55Speaker 1: looked up and the coaches, go run. She hadn't stretched anything.
- 8:58Speaker 1: She's in sweatpants a hoodie. Go run okay. She ran
- 9:03Speaker 1: along the Thames River, ran a mile and a half run,
- 9:06Speaker 1: which is the Coast Guard Pete standard. Then she said,
- 9:09Speaker 1: do two minutes of sit ups, okay, do two minutes
- 9:12Speaker 1: to push ups, all right, and my daughter said she
- 9:14Speaker 1: felt like passing out, she's so tired. And the coach
- 9:17Speaker 1: do what. I looked at her and said, you know what,
- 9:20Speaker 1: Cadet Bell, you have grit. You We want you on
- 9:24Speaker 1: our rowing team at the Coast Guard Academy. And that's
- 9:27Speaker 1: how she made the rowing team. And by the end
- 9:29Speaker 1: of the fall, she was on the varsity boat at
- 9:31Speaker 1: the head of the Head of the Charles in Boston,
- 9:33Speaker 1: one of the most famous races there is in rowing,
- 9:36Speaker 1: with three hundred thousand people there. And she was a
- 9:39Speaker 1: four year varsity rower at the Coast Guard Academy. By
- 9:42Speaker 1: walking on and showing some grit. And that's what military
- 9:45Speaker 1: officers are. That's not your grade point average or how
- 9:49Speaker 1: smart you are, or how technically or tactically proficients are.
- 9:52Speaker 1: It's grit and how you treat people. And my daughter
- 9:55Speaker 1: kept going time and again back to that grit and
- 9:58Speaker 1: how you treat people. And now she's an ensign in
- 9:59Speaker 1: the coast card. So thank you forgive me for going
- 10:03Speaker 1: on and on about this, but I just wanted to
- 10:05Speaker 1: give some background as to why this was the one
- 10:07Speaker 1: of the proudest, if not the proudest moment of my life.
- 10:08Speaker 1: He was really cool. It's really cool. And anyway, now
- 10:14Speaker 1: I'm back sun burned, My head's burned, can't wear hats
- 10:17Speaker 1: and you have a coast guard growing out if you
- 10:18Speaker 1: look good YouTube. But when I put it on at
- 10:21Speaker 1: the top of my head's burned from being in the
- 10:23Speaker 1: sun for eight hours. But it was so worth it.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I would have sat in hell with Satan and and
- 10:29Speaker 1: this is to Satan speak if I had to watch that.
- 10:32Speaker 1: It was amazing and amazing. Event four nine four five
- 10:34Speaker 1: one is the Takomadags text line at every day at
- 10:37Speaker 1: eleven thirty, we do that. We'll do that again at
- 10:40Speaker 1: eleven thirty. Share your thoughts on your greatest graduation memory.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Maybe your father and mother out right now that are
- 10:48Speaker 1: on your way to graduation season, maybe graduate you a
- 10:51Speaker 1: recent graduates in your family. Here in the last couple
- 10:53Speaker 1: of weeks. I'd love to hear your stories and how
- 10:56Speaker 1: this is a of course, it's a beginning, not an end,
- 10:59Speaker 1: but it is a call domination to so much hard work.

- 11:04Speaker 1: couple weeks ago. For is your niece, is that right?
- 11:07Speaker 1: Baby sister, baby sister, excuse me? And near family and celebrating, and.

- 19:25Speaker 1: You and yes on the text, line does this MEAN
- 19:28Speaker 1: i have to salute two of? Success does this MEAN
- 19:31Speaker 1: i have to salute your? Daughter, yes yes it. Does
- 19:34Speaker 1: she's an active duty commissioned officer who now outranks, me
- 19:38Speaker 1: a washed up veteran former army. Officer but thank you appreciate.
- 19:43Speaker 1: That so WHILE i was, gone The mariners lost to
- 19:47Speaker 1: The dad's over the last weekend and then they lost two,
- 19:49Speaker 1: well they won two or three against The White, sox
- 19:51Speaker 1: but the one they lost two to one was on
- 19:54Speaker 1: the piggyback game With Bryce miller starting and pitching five
- 19:57Speaker 1: and two thirds innings and Then Luis, castillo which is
- 20:00Speaker 1: two and a, third which sounds like it was about
- 20:01Speaker 1: a third too, long right because he started the ninth?
- 20:04Speaker 1: Enny what was? That isn't The mariners And Dan wilson's
- 20:07Speaker 1: rule that the relievers don't come in the middle of an.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Ning they tried something different and sometimes things just don't
- 20:14Speaker 2: go the whey they're. PLANNED i don't want to put
- 20:16Speaker 2: too much on the, pitching But.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Dan has been all.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Over the place this seek thank, you so it's not
- 20:25Speaker 2: too much of a. SURPRISE i, Know, ashley she was
- 20:28Speaker 2: talking on the morning show about what was the WORDS
- 20:31Speaker 2: i forgot the words you, used but you basically just, said,
- 20:33Speaker 2: oh it was they're playing checkers instead of, chess something
- 20:37Speaker 2: with that. Magnitude And Dan wilson is just he's doing
- 20:41Speaker 2: too much. Thinking, sometimes just go play, baseball like be the.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Manager stop trying to see what they're going to do
- 20:47Speaker 2: and try to. React just play your, ball do what
- 20:50Speaker 2: you're good. At and sometimes she was just staying that
- 20:53Speaker 2: he gets to his own, HEAD i, think or the
- 20:55Speaker 2: analytics take over and he's trying to do it this
- 20:57Speaker 2: particular way instead of just all, right, guys hear the game,
- 21:00Speaker 2: Plan oh they did, That, okay let's respond with this
- 21:03Speaker 2: instead of, ooh you know, WHAT i want to try
- 21:05Speaker 2: something completely different to shake things, up and you don't
- 21:09Speaker 2: need to do, that Right AND i think that has
- 21:11Speaker 2: been kind of The mariners season so, far and they
- 21:15Speaker 2: just getting in their own.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Way that's a good way to put. It just play
- 21:17Speaker 1: the game right to the games.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Play, yes it's kind of with any, sport, hockey, soccer
- 21:22Speaker 3: you just.
- 21:23Speaker 2: React you don't have to really draw up too many,
- 21:25Speaker 2: things especially with this team that's so, talented and the
- 21:28Speaker 2: roster's good.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Enough what are you drawing?
- 21:30Speaker 1: Up so they Bring castillo in Behind miller at five
- 21:34Speaker 1: and two thirds For, miller and then they Bring castillo
- 21:37Speaker 1: in for two and a. Third he finishes the eighth
- 21:39Speaker 1: with a one nothing. Lead so you're, Thinking, Okay Andre's
- 21:42Speaker 1: muno's right. Now full. TRANSPARENCY i was not watching the
- 21:45Speaker 1: game In. CONNECTICUT i was having a great time with my.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Family but if The mariners stick to their, Rules munos
- 21:53Speaker 1: begins the, ninth he's your all star, closer and the
- 21:55Speaker 1: rules are that The mariners do not want relievers coming
- 21:59Speaker 1: in in the middle of an. Ending they want him
- 22:01Speaker 1: starting at the beginning of an. Inning that, night As chris,
- 22:04Speaker 1: said they tried something. Different they were, piggybacking AND i
- 22:06Speaker 1: don't know if the intent was For cassio to have
- 22:08Speaker 1: finish the. Night i've probably finished the, ninth since he's
- 22:11Speaker 1: a starting pitcher who'd only pitched two and a third
- 22:13Speaker 1: innings up two innings up to that. Point, well he
- 22:16Speaker 1: gives up base runners going the. Ninth they finally have
- 22:18Speaker 1: to take him out after one out and both winning
- 22:22Speaker 1: runs charged to him in a two to one. Loss
- 22:24Speaker 1: As chris, mentioned only one hit in that. GAME i
- 22:28Speaker 1: don't know how long they're going to do. THIS i,
- 22:29Speaker 1: mean this is one thing to have a six man,
- 22:31Speaker 1: rotation but this piggybacking thing of putting a thirty one
- 22:33Speaker 1: year old three Time All star who's making bookoo bucks
- 22:37Speaker 1: into The it's almost as If, chris they're afraid of,
- 22:40Speaker 1: saying we're demoting him to the, bullpen but they demoted
- 22:42Speaker 1: him to the bullpen. Already they've already done. It the
- 22:45Speaker 1: fact he's not starting means they've demoted. Him and they
- 22:47Speaker 1: can call it piggyback or whatever they want to couch it.
- 22:49Speaker 1: As but he got demoted Because Bryce miller came back
- 22:53Speaker 1: And Emerson hancock has, shoven and so here we, go
- 22:57Speaker 1: the least effective of the five starters goes to the.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Bullpen it's The what is complicating it is Is castillo's
- 23:03Speaker 1: status on the. Team he's beloved in the. Clubhouse he's
- 23:07Speaker 1: been here now for many. Years he reapped his contract
- 23:09Speaker 1: after the trade from The reds a few summers. Ago
- 23:12Speaker 1: so it's not just like shoving a guy into the
- 23:14Speaker 1: bullpen and forgetting about. Him they are trying to massage.
- 23:16Speaker 1: This we'll see how it works. Again guess where the
- 23:20Speaker 1: next time. Is It's monday night When Bryce miller's spot
- 23:22Speaker 1: comes up In sacramento against the First. Place as First
- 23:27Speaker 1: place with the two games over five, hundred but we'll
- 23:30Speaker 1: see if they do the same. Thing do they Give
- 23:32Speaker 1: Bryce miller a five inning stint and then a couple
- 23:35Speaker 1: innings From Luis castillo again to close to end? It
- 23:41Speaker 1: it would have seen. THAT i don't. KNOW i would
- 23:43Speaker 1: seem that's what they're intent to do. Here for the
- 23:45Speaker 1: while we've said this, Before, chris there, INTENT i think
- 23:49Speaker 1: is From castillo to go off in this new role
- 23:52Speaker 1: And bestellar to the point that they can trade. HIM
- 23:55Speaker 1: i think that's what they're hoping. For but it's a
- 23:58Speaker 1: lot harder to trade a guy with him his, contract
- 24:01Speaker 1: in his status in the league out of a bullpen.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Roll but is it fair To Bryce miller and put
- 24:07Speaker 1: him at second in the piggyback and put him in the?
- 24:09Speaker 2: Bullpen probably, not probably, Not but a, situation it's it
- 24:12Speaker 2: calls for. It they're trying to do other things towards
- 24:15Speaker 2: the middle of the, season you're gonna have to just
- 24:17Speaker 2: roll with the punches and see what happened at the
- 24:18Speaker 2: end of.
- 24:19Speaker 1: IT i agree now UNDER Jp. Crawford this is What
- 24:22Speaker 1: crawford said about the day he was taking ground balls
- 24:26Speaker 1: pregame at third, base only not. Shortstop he ended up
- 24:29Speaker 1: not playing because he had a sore trice up from
- 24:32Speaker 1: getting hit by a pitch in the game. Before but
- 24:34Speaker 1: this is What crawford said about the whole idea he
- 24:36Speaker 1: had bringing it to The mariners that he wants to
- 24:38Speaker 1: be a third basem instead of a short. Stop.
- 24:39Speaker 4: NOW i want to be A mariner for, life AND
- 24:41Speaker 4: i think that's the best way to do. It and
- 24:43Speaker 4: it's always being open to helping the team.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Win, hey theyke a.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Young guys talk about you and just everything that you've
- 24:49Speaker 1: done for.
- 24:49Speaker 4: Them what does it mean to you to be that
- 24:52Speaker 4: person for? Them, yeah it means.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Everything you.
- 24:54Speaker 4: Know WHEN i came, UP i really didn't have anyone
- 24:56Speaker 4: to show me the ropes UNTIL i got over here
- 24:58Speaker 4: and Uh Dee gordon And Kyle seeger took me down
- 25:01Speaker 4: in their. Wing and you, KNOW i might have promised
- 25:04Speaker 4: to myself to you, know be like.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Them I'm.
- 25:06Speaker 4: Nicole here's the winning wars here and then stay here
- 25:08Speaker 4: as long AS i. Can and that's only two things
- 25:10Speaker 4: on my.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Mind those are you in town and listening to sports,
- 25:13Speaker 1: radio And seattle'll probably already know WHY Jp crawford's doing
- 25:17Speaker 1: this Because Colt emerson called up by The mariners From TRIPLE,
- 25:20Speaker 1: a the twenty year old rookie who's been primarily a.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Shortstop why they drafted him to be a. Shortstop ninety
- 25:27Speaker 1: five million dollar contract before he played his first major
- 25:30Speaker 1: league game eight years ninety five. Million he's getting ninety
- 25:33Speaker 1: five million no matter what. Happens that's how Major League
- 25:35Speaker 1: baseball contracts, work, guaranteed not like THE. Nfl we've talked
- 25:39Speaker 1: about this many. Times so Cold emerson making ninety five
- 25:42Speaker 1: million is not coming up to sit the bench and
- 25:45Speaker 1: his forte is. Shortstop and while it looked like maybe
- 25:48Speaker 1: IF Jp crawford was still at, shortstop The emerson might
- 25:51Speaker 1: be get at third base now That Brenda donovan is
- 25:53Speaker 1: back on the injured, list the day That crawford was
- 25:57Speaker 1: working at third base in pre Cold emerson started at
- 26:01Speaker 1: first base or excuse, me a, shortstop and then his
- 26:04Speaker 1: first hit in the major leagues is a home. Run
- 26:07Speaker 1: Cold emerson ain't going anywhere he's gonna be the, shortstop
- 26:10Speaker 1: AND Jp crawford realizes. This so while all parties in
- 26:13Speaker 1: house are saying this Was crawford's, idea that the thirty
- 26:15Speaker 1: one year old veteran came to THE ms with the
- 26:16Speaker 1: idea of moving to third, base he ain't, stupid and
- 26:20Speaker 1: neither is his. AGENT i saw reports that said his
- 26:22Speaker 1: agent talked to The mariner's front office about this as.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Well and while The mariners are doing the right thing
- 26:27Speaker 1: and saying THAT Jp crawford's a good guy and he's
- 26:29Speaker 1: doing this for in house camaraderie in the clubhouse and
- 26:32Speaker 1: doing what's best for the, team and he wants to
- 26:33Speaker 1: retire In. Seattle the only way he's going to retire
- 26:36Speaker 1: In seattle is if he finds a new, position because
- 26:39Speaker 1: he ain't playing, shortstop because the shortstop is twenty years
- 26:41Speaker 1: old making ninety five. Million So crawford's being smart here for. Himself,
- 26:46Speaker 1: yeah it could maybe work out for The mariners and
- 26:48Speaker 1: doing the selfless, thing but he's in self preservation. Mode
- 26:51Speaker 1: why because he's in the last year of his contract
- 26:54Speaker 1: and at thirty one years, old players start looking at
- 26:56Speaker 1: how many more of these big contracts AM i going
- 26:58Speaker 1: to get he had a fifty one million dollar contract
- 27:00Speaker 1: stay In. Seattle of, course he came up with The
- 27:02Speaker 1: phillies and then traded To seattle and became their shortstop
- 27:04Speaker 1: eventually for years and years. Now but he's not only
- 27:08Speaker 1: doing this to help The mariners. Win he's doing this
- 27:11Speaker 1: out of his own self preservation. Here AND i LOVE
- 27:14Speaker 1: Jp crawford and foking him in the, clubhouse And i'm
- 27:17Speaker 1: not trying to knock him at, all But i'm trying
- 27:19Speaker 1: to say that this is how major league baseball players,
- 27:21Speaker 1: think how professional athletes think, once especially once they get
- 27:23Speaker 1: into the. Thirties where's my next big contract going to come?
- 27:26Speaker 1: From how AM i going to get? It BECAUSE i
- 27:28Speaker 1: don't know how many more They'es i'm going to. Get
- 27:31Speaker 1: and that's what's to play here. Too the fact he's
- 27:33Speaker 1: in the last year of his. Contract he doesn't want
- 27:34Speaker 1: to ride it out as a backup shortstop to a
- 27:36Speaker 1: twenty year, old so he volunteers to play third. Base
- 27:40Speaker 1: now they have a whole other. Issue Once Brendan crawford comes,
- 27:43Speaker 1: back excuse, Me Brendon. Crawford that would be conflating the.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Two Brendon donovan comes. Back once he comes back to
- 27:51Speaker 1: presumably play third. Base what do you do, Then do
- 27:54Speaker 1: you Put crawford at third and Put donovan over at
- 27:56Speaker 1: second base where he has been most of the, career Or,
- 27:59Speaker 1: COLEY i don't deserving to go anywhere. Either he's been
- 28:02Speaker 1: amazing as in the, field at as a, hitter as
- 28:04Speaker 1: a rookie second. Baseman do you put him in the
- 28:07Speaker 1: Outfield donovan where he did something utility work for The
- 28:10Speaker 1: cardinals as. Well remember he won A Gold glove as
- 28:13Speaker 1: a defender at second base, primarily but also the outfield
- 28:16Speaker 1: For Saint louis a couple of years. Ago Brandon donovan.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Did so they have a decision to. Make is THIS
- 28:21Speaker 1: Jp crawford Goodness robin hood move at third? Base what's
- 28:26Speaker 1: that mean For donovan when he comes back off the injured? List,
- 28:29Speaker 1: ANYWAY i just wanted to get it out there that. It,
- 28:33Speaker 1: yes there's some altruism here of team first AND i
- 28:36Speaker 1: want to be A mariner for life and all, That
- 28:38Speaker 1: but self preservation is also coming INTO Jp crawford's mind
- 28:41Speaker 1: of how AM i going to remain relevant and able
- 28:44Speaker 1: to earn a new contract at the end of this
- 28:46Speaker 1: Year if we've got Cold emerson now up at, shortstop
- 28:50Speaker 1: and now he's offered to play third. Base to come
- 28:53Speaker 1: a dodge text, line we'll read back your text at
- 28:56Speaker 1: eleven thirty. Up, next we're going to talk about, it
- 29:00Speaker 1: maybe not spend a long, time BUT i at least
- 29:02Speaker 1: want to put it out. There what's going on In
- 29:03Speaker 1: Las vegas this? Weekend the first ever Enhanced. Games that's
- 29:08Speaker 1: what they call, it And i'm going to describe what it.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Is it's legal performance enhancing athletic. Competition Steroid olympics is
- 29:16Speaker 1: what they're calling. It we'll talk about that. Next, also
- 29:18Speaker 1: we're going to talk about what The rams just did
- 29:22Speaker 1: yesterday that makes Drafting Ty, simpson the quarterback From alabama
- 29:26Speaker 1: even dumber than it was when they did. It and
- 29:28Speaker 1: Why sean mcvad mystad steam coming out of his. Ears
- 29:31Speaker 1: that's next on ninety three point THREE. Kjrfm welcome back
- 29:43Speaker 1: to The Greg Belt show With Christopher kidt on A
