- 5:11Speaker 2: don't know were you there last night, Carl Rinker?
- 5:14Speaker 3: Did you get to the game? I got to the
- 5:16Speaker 3: bo R just as the girls won their game.
- 5:19Speaker 4: I had to work in the concession stand and the
- 5:22Speaker 4: boys played after the girls, but the girls were pretty
- 5:25Speaker 4: excited when I walked in that door.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Erupted three to two win over in overtime over Kingdom Blades.
- 5:34Speaker 2: I thought I heard something last night. I think it
- 5:36Speaker 2: was the noise coming out of the bo R. You
- 5:38Speaker 2: may have, because there was.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Just fans were cheering and everybody was excited when I
- 5:44Speaker 4: walked in the door.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I was.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Late because I had another meeting to go to.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Not at a great night for number two Spaulding a
- 5:52Speaker 2: four zip shutout from Bellows Free Academy. Wow, that was.
- 5:58Speaker 3: A tough one for the boys.
- 5:59Speaker 2: It was was a lot of action with the hardwood game.
- 6:04Speaker 2: They had a four to three win over Colchester in overtime.
- 6:06Speaker 2: But Colchester played very well last night and almost took
- 6:10Speaker 2: them College shoop. You're ready for a little March madness?
- 6:13Speaker 2: Do you follow?
- 6:14Speaker 4: Do you do any of the brackets? I don't have time.
- 6:16Speaker 4: I'm too busy with all these things, and.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Bear of course you are. Let's see, we have selection
- 6:23Speaker 2: Sunday coming up on March sixteenth on CBS sixty eight
- 6:27Speaker 2: teams going to be playing this year in the men's
- 6:30Speaker 2: tournament alone with the first four March eighteenth, and nineteenth,
- 6:34Speaker 2: it's going to be exciting. So you're going to be
- 6:37Speaker 2: up at the auditorium tonight, Right.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Tonight, I'm ushering at the auditorium for the basketball tournaments.
- 6:42Speaker 4: I'm not piliar players tonight. So yeah, that'll be a
- 6:45Speaker 4: big crowd. We had a big crowd. I was working
- 6:48Speaker 4: there Monday night. We had a big crowd for that
- 6:51Speaker 4: those events, and tonight it'll be a big crowd again,
- 6:54Speaker 4: I'm sure. And back at the concession stand last night
- 6:57Speaker 4: at the b Or concession stand was a swamp last.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I'm sure sure was. That's good, that's great. Actually, yes,
- 7:04Speaker 2: so we have mont pill You're in Otter Valley tonight,
- 7:06Speaker 2: Hartford and Harwood, and then Thursday, you're going to be
- 7:10Speaker 2: up there for the Thetford Winowski game.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Yes, I'll be there. Yeah, I'm ussure most of the games.
- 7:17Speaker 4: The final Saturday, I'm out of town that day and
- 7:20Speaker 4: can't do it, which is kind of sad.
- 7:22Speaker 3: You like to see that those final games.
- 7:24Speaker 2: You're one of the Seriously, I don't know hold you are,
- 7:27Speaker 2: but you're one of the busiest guys that I know, Carl.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, I really I'm a little bit lazy,
- 7:33Speaker 3: but I'm busy.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Yeah, that's you. That's your email. Lazy Carl Man. You
- 7:39Speaker 2: just I don't know how you do it, but you
- 7:41Speaker 2: you truly love what you do, and anyone who knows
- 7:46Speaker 2: you knows that you've got your your finger and a
- 7:49Speaker 2: lot of stuff in our community, and most of it's good.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Well, I love this community.
- 7:55Speaker 4: I still live on the same piece of land that
- 7:57Speaker 4: I did the day I was born, so yeah, that's
- 8:00Speaker 4: a fact.
- 8:01Speaker 3: So I just really enjoy this community. It's a great community.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Contrary to some of the negative things you hear about
- 8:08Speaker 4: the community. It's just a great community, a great place
- 8:12Speaker 4: to live, and I just enjoy helping the community out.
- 8:16Speaker 2: There's always plenty of content to talk with you about. Always.
- 8:24Speaker 2: I've never seen you or been in your presence where
- 8:28Speaker 2: there isn't anything going on or anything to talk about.
- 8:31Speaker 2: And of course we're going to be talking about the
- 8:33Speaker 2: Art Splash. Of course, we're going to be talking about
- 8:36Speaker 2: what's coming up this summer, your incredible rotary breakfast. Of
- 8:42Speaker 2: course I would love to have you in here more
- 8:44Speaker 2: frequently before we jump into the Art Splash, which is
- 8:49Speaker 2: so exciting, and we're going to get to it and
- 8:51Speaker 2: show you some pictures here in a little bit. Tell
- 8:54Speaker 2: me about ba DC right now. I mean, everyone's talking
- 8:57Speaker 2: about JJ Newberry Building.
- 8:59Speaker 3: That's true, That's true. I can remember when I was
- 9:01Speaker 3: in high school.
- 9:03Speaker 4: I'd come down from high school after school and the
- 9:06Speaker 4: other kids would come down and we'd go into the
- 9:09Speaker 4: we called it a fountain at the time. We go
- 9:12Speaker 4: in and get a maybe a cherry coke or.
- 9:16Speaker 2: What other days, man, good old days.
- 9:18Speaker 4: So I can remember, and I can remember when mister
- 9:20Speaker 4: Kelly was the manager in that store. Yeah, Dick Kelly's father,
- 9:24Speaker 4: I believe. So the store has some history and you've
- 9:30Speaker 4: had Steve on he's told you all about our one
- 9:34Speaker 4: forty three Main Street initiatives.
- 9:35Speaker 3: So I won't bore you a lot with that. But
- 9:39Speaker 3: that's just one of.
- 9:40Speaker 4: The things that we at Barrier Development are doing well.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Bottom line is busy. Bottom line on that is you're
- 9:48Speaker 2: you're asking folks to put together how much money six hundred.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Well, the total is one point one million that we're
- 9:55Speaker 4: trying to raise. We're going to pay a million for
- 9:57Speaker 4: the building. We need an extra hundred thousand to take
- 10:00Speaker 4: care of taxes and closing costs, that sort of thing.
- 10:04Speaker 4: And people can donate through our website, which is badc
- 10:08Speaker 4: dot com. Yesterday I got a very nice donation of
- 10:12Speaker 4: five thousand dollars through the website.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Wow.
- 10:16Speaker 4: And that came in from the owner of the store
- 10:19Speaker 4: directly across the street. So that's pretty exciting.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Isn't that great?
- 10:24Speaker 3: Yes?
- 10:25Speaker 2: Yes, honestly, that's what it's That's what it's all about.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Man.
- 10:28Speaker 4: I picked up a check for fifteen hundred from my
- 10:31Speaker 4: neighbor last night at quarter ten on my way home, So.
- 10:34Speaker 3: The money is coming in.
- 10:37Speaker 4: It's exciting and we're just rocking and rolling out there,
- 10:42Speaker 4: trying to meet with community members to see if we
- 10:45Speaker 4: can get them to donate.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Any donation is welcome.
- 10:49Speaker 4: If somebody can't afford that fifty thousand dollars donation, they
- 10:53Speaker 4: can give us a fifty dollars donation for twenty five
- 10:56Speaker 4: So that's exciting.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Also exciting is the ideas that have been put forth
- 11:03Speaker 2: so far, and I'm sure there can be many, many
- 11:06Speaker 2: others of what to do with that property if we're
- 11:09Speaker 2: able to secure it.
- 11:11Speaker 4: And my guess is you're going to see some apartments, yeah,
- 11:15Speaker 4: one way or another. It may be combined with other
- 11:18Speaker 4: things which would be great, but.
- 11:20Speaker 3: We don't know exactly.
- 11:21Speaker 2: We don't know, maybe some retail. Nicholas Starelli Castro has
- 11:24Speaker 2: been in here a couple of times. Steve mackenzie has
- 11:27Speaker 2: been on the air as well talking about this. I
- 11:30Speaker 2: think we would all agree that no matter what, even
- 11:36Speaker 2: a green space for a couple of years, until we
- 11:39Speaker 2: get it figured out, it's going to be a hell
- 11:41Speaker 2: of a lot better than what we've been looking at
- 11:44Speaker 2: for a long time.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Right, And Steve did a nice job getting the design
- 11:50Speaker 4: company in Montclair Black River design to draw into green space.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Yep.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Just you just.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Mentioned that with the idea that there will be a
- 12:01Speaker 4: period of time after the building gets torn down, and
- 12:04Speaker 4: we wanted to look nice in that interim between then
- 12:07Speaker 4: and when a developer can come in and sure it'll
- 12:09Speaker 4: take a while for them to get their permits, that
- 12:11Speaker 4: sort of a thing. So plan had to have something
- 12:14Speaker 4: in there that would look nice. Yeah, and that's exactly
- 12:17Speaker 4: what happened with City Place. We were instrumental with City
- 12:22Speaker 4: Place in the very beginning. I remember working on that.
- 12:25Speaker 4: So this is an identical project to the City Place project.
- 12:30Speaker 4: But if people have questions, they're more than welcome to
- 12:32Speaker 4: contact me. I'm met four seven nine one two four
- 12:36Speaker 4: lazycarlidaol dot com.
- 12:37Speaker 3: I don't mind giving those out.
- 12:39Speaker 4: But if they have concerns about this project, sure, or
- 12:42Speaker 4: they have questions that they haven't figured out certain aspects,
- 12:45Speaker 4: I'm more than happy to communicate with people.
- 12:47Speaker 2: So you have been the bus driver of ba DC
- 12:52Speaker 2: now since September. Since September, Okay, sad but true, No,
- 12:57Speaker 2: I don't think sad because you know what's going on.
- 13:01Speaker 2: I mean, you've been on that board forever.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I've been on that board for a long time.
- 13:06Speaker 4: I'm a past president and I did do the job
- 13:10Speaker 4: as an interim back three years ago for about four
- 13:14Speaker 4: and a half months until we hired our new director
- 13:17Speaker 4: and I started the Prospect Heights project for the one
- 13:21Speaker 4: hundred and twenty eight living units up there.
- 13:23Speaker 3: I turned it over to our new director, which was
- 13:25Speaker 3: a may Green.
- 13:27Speaker 4: She took the ball and ran down the court with
- 13:29Speaker 4: it and did a slam dunk. She did a great
- 13:32Speaker 4: job moving that project forward and she just moved on
- 13:36Speaker 4: to some different pastures back in September. Yes, so the
- 13:39Speaker 4: board looked at me and said, well, Carl, you're retired.
- 13:41Speaker 4: You're the only retired one here.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Sure, and you're not busy enough as it is.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Yeah, would you fill in?
- 13:47Speaker 4: And it's not something that I'm trying to go out
- 13:51Speaker 4: and have a full time job at this point in
- 13:53Speaker 4: time in my life.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Like to spend a lot of time with my family
- 13:56Speaker 3: and I still get to.
- 13:58Speaker 4: But I said, well, I'll do it and we'll look
- 14:00Speaker 4: for a new director, which is what we're doing now.
- 14:05Speaker 2: How do we learn more about this new director position?
- 14:09Speaker 2: Badc dot org dot com dot com. All right, but
- 14:14Speaker 2: that's a good place to start.
- 14:15Speaker 4: There's a job description on there and I'll fill you
- 14:18Speaker 4: in on where we're at with that.
- 14:20Speaker 3: We placed quite a few ads.
- 14:22Speaker 4: I get about sixty something applications. I had to review
- 14:27Speaker 4: all those, of course, and then turned them over to
- 14:30Speaker 4: our committee, which is headed up by Chrissy Bellovance.
- 14:34Speaker 3: But they didn't pan out for various reasons.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:37Speaker 4: So recently we have hired a new company out of
- 14:41Speaker 4: Colchester to assist us with the job search. Okay, and
- 14:45Speaker 4: hopefully they'll be getting started sometime in the next ten
- 14:47Speaker 4: days or so.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Will you Will you keep in touch with me on
- 14:52Speaker 2: how that's going. Sure, sure, don't be afraid to give
- 14:55Speaker 2: me a poke. Sure, you got a microphone in front
- 14:58Speaker 2: of you. The mics belong to everyone. I mean, anytime
- 15:03Speaker 2: you want to come in here and give an update
- 15:05Speaker 2: on that, let me know. Okay, Alice is asking, is
- 15:11Speaker 2: prospect heights moving forward?
- 15:13Speaker 3: Yes? Right now.
- 15:16Speaker 4: The engineering team is doing the due diligence for the
- 15:21Speaker 4: project to see exactly what can be done there with
- 15:24Speaker 4: current laws. This land was drawn up for development quite
- 15:31Speaker 4: a few years ago, and since then the wastewater not wastewater,
- 15:35Speaker 4: but the water runoff rules have changed. The wetland rules
- 15:38Speaker 4: changed a little bit, so the engineering firm is checking
- 15:41Speaker 4: into all that. They can't do the wetland delineation until spring.
- 15:46Speaker 4: You can't do that sort of thing with this amount
- 15:48Speaker 4: of snow off the ground. So they're doing all their
- 15:52Speaker 4: due diligence that they can do right now, and then
- 15:55Speaker 4: the spring they'll do that delineation delineation. They'll report back
- 15:59Speaker 4: to the city and to us on exactly what can
- 16:02Speaker 4: be done. Can we get one hundred and twenty eight
- 16:04Speaker 4: units up there? Sure, my senses from working on a
- 16:07Speaker 4: lot of projects like this over the years, we won't
- 16:10Speaker 4: be able to.
- 16:10Speaker 3: But let's pretend we get ninety two.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Yeah, ninety two housing units is a giant step forward.
- 16:16Speaker 4: We still do have a two point eight five million
- 16:18Speaker 4: dollar grant which A May Green wrote for the City
- 16:21Speaker 4: Berry to get started on the infrastructure, but we need
- 16:26Speaker 4: to wait for this engineering study that's being done now,
- 16:29Speaker 4: and we've got some other grant applications out there that
- 16:32Speaker 4: we're hoping come through. We need about six point two
- 16:35Speaker 4: million to get started on the road, which includes sewer,
- 16:39Speaker 4: water communications, that sort of thing.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Wow, how exciting, I mean, we have some pretty cool
- 16:45Speaker 2: things on the Horizon in Perry. I mean, look, we
- 16:47Speaker 2: just got a new DPW.
- 16:50Speaker 3: That's exciting.
- 16:51Speaker 2: That's a great deal for the city, that's moving forward,
- 16:53Speaker 2: that's a great deal.
- 16:54Speaker 3: For the city. I'm familiar with that building.
- 16:56Speaker 4: I actually worked with O'Reillys because a while back, Rillys
- 17:02Speaker 4: wanted to build a new warehouse retail store in the
- 17:04Speaker 4: city and they wanted to close their Summer Street operation,
- 17:07Speaker 4: their Berlin operation, and their south Bury operation consolidate at
- 17:12Speaker 4: all into one.
- 17:13Speaker 3: The warehouse they were.
- 17:14Speaker 4: Using up on the Hill that local folks know about
- 17:16Speaker 4: that the city is looking at buying was not being utilized.
- 17:20Speaker 3: To its full extent by a Rillys.
- 17:22Speaker 4: They used about half that warehouse, so they didn't need
- 17:25Speaker 4: a big warehouse because they distributed out a mass with
- 17:28Speaker 4: their own existing warehouses, where Bond did not. Bond was
- 17:32Speaker 4: distributing to fifty something stores from that warehouse all the
- 17:36Speaker 4: way into Massachusetts.
- 17:38Speaker 3: When O'Reillys bought Bonds, Rillys.
- 17:42Speaker 4: Was distributing to all their Massachusetts stores in Southern Hampshire
- 17:45Speaker 4: stores from Massachusetts.
- 17:47Speaker 3: So they didn't need such a large warehouse. So they
- 17:50Speaker 3: wanted to consolidate downtown, and I worked very hard trying
- 17:53Speaker 3: to find them a place, but I could never find
- 17:55Speaker 3: a place with enough square footage to do what they
- 17:57Speaker 3: wanted to do. So then they looked in to building
- 18:01Speaker 3: a new place in south Berry, but there just wasn't
- 18:04Speaker 3: quite enough room for them to go up there. That
- 18:06Speaker 3: Barry town has a fifty foot set back and the
- 18:10Speaker 3: property has a state road.
- 18:12Speaker 4: On three sides of it. Yeah, so now they're looking
- 18:15Speaker 4: at going into Staples. They're working with a town of
- 18:18Speaker 4: Berlin to go up there. So anyway, that's the story
- 18:20Speaker 4: about a Rilly's that we look But I do have
- 18:22Speaker 4: a ton of other little projects that I'm working on
- 18:26Speaker 4: here in the community that if we have time, we
- 18:28Speaker 4: can talk about who's moving and who splace, that kind of.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Thing, you know. Nicholas and Steve both not giving a
- 18:38Speaker 2: whole lot of details of how the old DPW building
- 18:43Speaker 2: is going to be repurposed, but frankly, just the fact
- 18:47Speaker 2: that we're getting the hell out of there and getting
- 18:49Speaker 2: up to some higher ground in a big space that's
- 18:53Speaker 2: up to code. I'll range juice man.
- 18:57Speaker 4: I'll mention that there's a granite manufacturing plan over there.
- 19:01Speaker 4: We folks in Barry call them granite sheds, and it's
- 19:04Speaker 4: octagonal and as people drive by, they've probably seen it
- 19:08Speaker 4: over the years. They don't pay a lot of attention
- 19:09Speaker 4: to it. But it belongs to Capital Candy. And as
- 19:13Speaker 4: you know, Capital Candy is kind of beside and behind
- 19:18Speaker 4: the Berry City DPW place, and he'd like to get
- 19:21Speaker 4: rid of that building and he'll give it away to
- 19:23Speaker 4: anybody free if somebody wants to come and take tear
- 19:27Speaker 4: it down.
- 19:27Speaker 2: And move it down.
- 19:28Speaker 3: But it's on the historic sites so he can't tear
- 19:31Speaker 3: it down.
- 19:32Speaker 4: But I'm assuming that Capital Candy would be interested in
- 19:35Speaker 4: that property once the city vacates it.
- 19:37Speaker 5: Ah.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 19:39Speaker 4: I'm not speaking for them, but I'm just saying that
- 19:41Speaker 4: would be an opportunity for them to expand.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, right, I want to talk before we get
- 19:50Speaker 2: into the art splash. Is the breakfast on this year
- 19:54Speaker 2: or is that really a dumb question.
- 19:56Speaker 4: It's armed for the last Saturday and lie Library lawn.
- 20:02Speaker 4: All the proceeds go to the Aldrich Public Library. In fact,
- 20:07Speaker 4: the Very Roatary Club will be doing a presentation to
- 20:10Speaker 4: the library to turn over the proceeds from last summer's breakfast.
- 20:15Speaker 3: It's about sixteen thousand dollars.
- 20:17Speaker 2: What really, that's what kind of numbers that pulls in. Yep,
- 20:23Speaker 2: isn't that amazing.
- 20:24Speaker 4: Well, it's not only ticket sales, but it's underwriters. You know,
- 20:28Speaker 4: there are people that donate to the project. People donate money,
- 20:32Speaker 4: people donate some food in some cases, and of course
- 20:36Speaker 4: the Rotary Club comes down and works real hard doing
- 20:38Speaker 4: the cooking.
- 20:39Speaker 3: It's a great event for the community.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Wow.
- 20:41Speaker 4: People tell me that they come down and see people
- 20:43Speaker 4: they haven't seen for a year at the Rotary breakfast.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Yeah, of course. And if the weather's not great, don't
- 20:50Speaker 2: worry because you guys always have plenty of tents and
- 20:53Speaker 2: it's just always such a huge success. So what is
- 21:00Speaker 2: for the art splash? Now, it's every other year.
- 21:03Speaker 4: Every other year because it takes about a year and
- 21:05Speaker 4: a half of planning, yes, of course, to put the
- 21:08Speaker 4: project on. So unless you know, we had ten more
- 21:12Speaker 4: people that wanted to work full time working on it,
- 21:15Speaker 4: we just.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Can't pull it off every year. So we do it
- 21:18Speaker 3: every year.
- 21:19Speaker 4: We did it in the summer of twenty one, twenty three,
- 21:20Speaker 4: and now we'll do it this summer twenty five.
- 21:22Speaker 2: And mark your calendars. As you can see right here,
- 21:26Speaker 2: and I'm showing on the monitor right now, these art
- 21:30Speaker 2: items are going to be auctioned off on September sixth,
- 21:33Speaker 2: this coming September at the Vermont Granite Museum at three pm,
- 21:37Speaker 2: which is always a big, big deal. Yes, it is huge.
- 21:41Speaker 4: At three pm viewing people will get an hour to
- 21:44Speaker 4: view the items. We'll have free our dervs there for
- 21:48Speaker 4: people that come in, and then the auction will start
- 21:52Speaker 4: at four o'clock sharp. This year we're going to have
- 21:55Speaker 4: forty six art items. That's the most we've ever had.
- 21:57Speaker 2: We're looking at some of them right now. First the
- 22:00Speaker 2: Stephen Donahue Recei's car, which is so cool man and
- 22:05Speaker 2: Pete Ainsworth what a what a talented guy he is.
- 22:09Speaker 4: But but we've got a lot of talented artists. I
- 22:12Speaker 4: do have a suggestion for you, a little bit off subject.
- 22:15Speaker 4: You should put a monitor here somewhere so I can
- 22:18Speaker 4: see what you're seeing.
- 22:19Speaker 2: It's coming, it's coming, it's going. It's gonna go right there, Yep,
- 22:22Speaker 2: it's it's coming.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Not very nice to be telling the host what to
- 22:26Speaker 3: do is yeah.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Sorry, yeah, we've actually it's it might even get it
- 22:33Speaker 2: put in today. But typical of Carl to do that though. No, no,
- 22:36Speaker 2: that I'd like I love that about Carl. You say
- 22:39Speaker 2: it like it is man. But look at these these
- 22:41Speaker 2: Stephen Donahue cars. Incredible. The twenty nine thirty one.
- 22:46Speaker 3: I did an interview with Steve. He was the he
- 22:49Speaker 3: was the.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Track champion, you know, Yeah, three different tracks two summers ago.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Sure.
- 22:54Speaker 4: And so he had that car redecorated for the Melt
- 22:58Speaker 4: Bowl that year. And it's a throwback car in honor
- 23:01Speaker 4: of a race professional race car driver, Kevin Harvick.
- 23:05Speaker 3: So it's the Peanut Butter Car.
- 23:07Speaker 4: So when I get the drivers to put their autographs
- 23:10Speaker 4: on these cars, I do.
- 23:11Speaker 3: A little interview with them.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Yes, And in the middle of.
- 23:14Speaker 3: The interview I asked Steve.
- 23:16Speaker 4: I said, hey, Steve, I said, you got this thing
- 23:19Speaker 4: decorated up for Rece's I said, do you eat Recee's
- 23:22Speaker 4: peanut butter cups? And he said, no, what And then
- 23:26Speaker 4: he proceeded to tell me what he does eat. And
- 23:28Speaker 4: you'll have to watch the video to find out what
- 23:30Speaker 4: it is.
- 23:31Speaker 2: I think I got it right here. It's it's somewhere
- 23:35Speaker 2: in my in my link here and this was from
- 23:38Speaker 2: you said last year, right, Well, I.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Did the interview with him this year because that car
- 23:43Speaker 4: will be on display this summer. But he raced that
- 23:47Speaker 4: car in the twenty twenty three Melt Bowl and was
- 23:52Speaker 4: the winner.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Yeah, let's let's see if I can find.
- 23:56Speaker 6: Stone service station sponsor the number thirty one car who
- 23:59Speaker 6: drives it.
- 24:00Speaker 3: There you go, there's the driver. Look at this. He's
- 24:05Speaker 3: going to put the autograph on it for us today.
- 24:07Speaker 6: But first we're going to ask him a few questions.
- 24:09Speaker 6: So Steve, tell us just a little bit about the
- 24:11Speaker 6: car first.
- 24:13Speaker 5: Yeah, it was two years ago, twenty twenty three car.
- 24:17Speaker 5: We were able to lucky enough to win the championship with.
- 24:21Speaker 1: It and.
- 24:23Speaker 5: Eight championships Steve, Now this guy only got us one.
- 24:26Speaker 5: I got a couple with Norm's car. But uh, we
- 24:29Speaker 5: were able to win the championship and then do them
- 24:32Speaker 5: moutable to the same year, which was really really cool.
- 24:35Speaker 3: So that's it.
- 24:35Speaker 5: Thunder Road yep at under Road.
- 24:37Speaker 4: Okay, good, and you're ready to put the autograph.
- 24:40Speaker 3: On Sure, let's go for it.
- 24:44Speaker 6: So I'm Carl with a Barry Arch splash, and we're
- 24:47Speaker 6: going to put this car on display on the summer
- 24:49Speaker 6: of twenty twenty five. Then it goes to the Granite
- 24:51Speaker 6: Museum on September sixth, and it gets ouctioned off to
- 24:57Speaker 6: the highest bidder and I want you, folks, so I'll
- 25:00Speaker 6: come down and bid, and I want you to bid
- 25:03Speaker 6: these people as high as you possibly can.
- 25:07Speaker 3: There they are right over there, some future bidders. So
- 25:11Speaker 3: that's it, folks on that car.
- 25:13Speaker 6: So Steve jump right over to the second car and
- 25:16Speaker 6: what have we got here?
- 25:17Speaker 5: Yeah, this was a really cool design that we did.
- 25:22Speaker 5: And my girlfriend wanted to really go for the full
- 25:25Speaker 5: Kevin have Itt fill back because I'm a big Kevin
- 25:27Speaker 5: Havoc fan and unfortunately in twenty twenty three was his
- 25:30Speaker 5: last full time years. So we did it for the
- 25:33Speaker 5: Mouth Bowl and we were lucky enough to win it.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Super do you eat reces cups?
- 25:38Speaker 5: I don't eat mess cups by eating specs and Recei's huff.
- 25:41Speaker 3: Let's see it. Put an autograph on that. That's it, folks,
- 25:55Speaker 3: September sixth at the Granite Museum. Come bid on it.
- 25:58Speaker 2: See yeah, Ah, that's so cool, Carl. You do a
- 26:02Speaker 2: great job with that, buddy.
- 26:03Speaker 3: We have some fun.
- 26:04Speaker 4: We have some fun, and the drivers are good and
- 26:06Speaker 4: we've been fortunate to get every single living driver's autograph
- 26:10Speaker 4: on these cars.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Now for the last few years.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Right now, I've got some cars at my house waiting
- 26:17Speaker 4: for some autographs. Got some drivers coming up from Florida
- 26:20Speaker 4: very soon.
- 26:21Speaker 3: I got a Dave.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Dion cara this year and he's coming up shortly. I
- 26:25Speaker 4: got a Tom Glazer car. He's coming back from Florida shortly.
- 26:30Speaker 3: And we got a Bruins autograph the other day too.
- 26:34Speaker 2: How'd you get that?
- 26:36Speaker 4: Well, the sponsor was, or is David Air's auto body shop,
- 26:44Speaker 4: and he's the sponsor of this bear, which is a
- 26:48Speaker 4: Bruins bear, and this particular bear was decorated.
- 26:54Speaker 3: By Alison Randall and.
- 26:59Speaker 4: David airs son or his family has a connection to
- 27:03Speaker 4: a gentleman named Chris that works for the NHL Okay
- 27:09Speaker 4: and he put me in touch with that person. That
- 27:14Speaker 4: person went to Tim Thomas, who played for the Bruins
- 27:19Speaker 4: as a goalie for eight years, Stanley Cup winner, and
- 27:22Speaker 4: I met Tim Thomas just a couple saturdays ago in
- 27:27Speaker 4: the Applebee's parking lot because he was traveling on I
- 27:30Speaker 4: eighty nine believe it or not, to Boston to be
- 27:34Speaker 4: in their box for a Bruins game and was kind
- 27:37Speaker 4: enough to pull off the throughway and meet with me
- 27:40Speaker 4: and do a little interview at.
- 27:42Speaker 3: An autograph on that bear. So that's exciting.
- 27:47Speaker 4: We also have a Bobby Bobby Or bear decorated by
- 27:50Speaker 4: Prudy Burns this year, and I would love to get
- 27:52Speaker 4: his autograph. I just don't have a good connection yet. Wow,
- 27:57Speaker 4: had lunch with Bobby or at Rotary a long time ago.
- 28:00Speaker 3: He was at the Berry Rotary Club. Once.
- 28:02Speaker 2: I'm looking at some of the art pieces that are
- 28:06Speaker 2: coming up for this summer.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Can you see the Tim Thomas one there?
- 28:11Speaker 2: Yeah? Which one is that?
- 28:13Speaker 4: Well, it's got the Bruins uniform on it. I'm looking
- 28:16Speaker 4: for it and it's a big bear with blue eyes,
- 28:20Speaker 4: you know what. I apologize it's not on there yet.
- 28:23Speaker 4: I apologize. The video is there with him autographing it.
- 28:27Speaker 4: But the procedure is once they autograph it, I take
- 28:30Speaker 4: him down to Cody Chevrolet and Codys Chevrolet has Paul
- 28:35Speaker 4: Trapanier down there put a couple of coats of a
- 28:37Speaker 4: clearcoat on there for us and they donate that service.
- 28:41Speaker 4: And that's wonderful of Cody's to do that. So we
- 28:45Speaker 4: put that on there to protect them when they're out
- 28:46Speaker 4: in the environment on the main street right and Barry
- 28:49Speaker 4: it also makes them pop. So once I get them
- 28:52Speaker 4: clear coated, then I take a picture of all four
- 28:54Speaker 4: sides of the art items to put on the website
- 28:56Speaker 4: so that somebody out of town and we have people
- 28:58Speaker 4: all over the country bidding on and they see, yeah,
- 29:01Speaker 4: they can see what the thing looks like from all
- 29:03Speaker 4: four sides. So I've been so busy in the last
- 29:06Speaker 4: little bit, I hadn't had a chance to take the
- 29:08Speaker 4: pictures of that particular bearri Yet.
- 29:10Speaker 2: All right, we got we got on the screen right now,
- 29:12Speaker 2: the Jimmy Hebert car, the Joey Lacaire car. Nice video
- 29:17Speaker 2: on Joey autographing that up.
- 29:20Speaker 4: Yep, he did a couple for us. And we've got
- 29:22Speaker 4: a new breed of cars on the street coming this summer.
- 29:27Speaker 4: Back in the day, thunder Road had a division called
- 29:30Speaker 4: Mini Stocks and most of those cars were Volkswagen Beetles.
- 29:34Speaker 4: They had, I guess a couple of Carmen Gias and
- 29:36Speaker 4: maybe something else. But we got at least a half
- 29:39Speaker 4: a dozen vws to be on display this summer, and.
- 29:42Speaker 3: One of those was Joey and yeah, the other one
- 29:44Speaker 3: was Jerry Parent.
- 29:45Speaker 2: We're looking at right now, the number fifty car.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Yep. Incredible, beautiful car.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm out Remington, Remington, that's what a what a
- 29:59Speaker 2: look at that?
- 30:00Speaker 3: That isn't the sponsor J D. Gould on that one?
- 30:02Speaker 2: Yes? J Gould Ja excuse me ja a goold Plumbing
- 30:06Speaker 2: and heating.
- 30:07Speaker 3: He decorated that one.
- 30:08Speaker 2: H John Landy, John.
- 30:10Speaker 3: Landy decorated that one. Yeah.
- 30:12Speaker 4: That was the name of his real dog. And he's
- 30:15Speaker 4: the sponsor. And so the artists, just for the folks
- 30:18Speaker 4: viewing us now, usually get the art item and are
- 30:23Speaker 4: told to decorate it with a certain theme. And the
- 30:26Speaker 4: sponsor is the one that tells us what kind of
- 30:28Speaker 4: a theme they would like to have.
- 30:30Speaker 2: And Remington was here two years ago, right, I'm pretty sure.
- 30:33Speaker 3: No different dog, different time, different dog.
- 30:36Speaker 4: Same artist did another dog that looked like that, but
- 30:39Speaker 4: just a different design.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Jacks golden goose. I'm showing it right now in the monitor.
- 30:44Speaker 3: That the goose that laid the golden egg.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Yes, several golden eggs. Pam Murphy, the artist sponsored by Nelson's,
- 30:54Speaker 2: says hardware. Look at that incredible.
- 30:57Speaker 3: Is't that a beautiful goose? So the goose. That's the
- 31:00Speaker 3: first time we'll have have the goose on display.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Yeah, we got the uh, the frog, the green frog.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Yep, little the wings on that thing.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Incredible.
- 31:15Speaker 3: These artists are just so talented.
- 31:17Speaker 4: They work, you know, dozens and dozens and dozens of
- 31:20Speaker 4: hours all winter long.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Decorating Fecto home sponsor in that one. And let's see
- 31:27Speaker 2: what else do we have here? A lot of a
- 31:32Speaker 2: lot of dogs, which I think is so great. It's
- 31:35Speaker 2: not just bears, it's.
- 31:37Speaker 3: It's whatever that sponsor wants to buy. That's the beauty
- 31:41Speaker 3: of it.
- 31:41Speaker 4: The sponsor gets the truth between the cats, the dogs,
- 31:43Speaker 4: the bears, the.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Chimp and and generally these art pieces are out in
- 31:49Speaker 2: the front, like this one to be out in front
- 31:51Speaker 2: of Richard J. Wabbi Jewelers.
- 31:53Speaker 4: Yes, yes, yes, Wabi's always is a big supporter of
- 31:57Speaker 4: this project.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Amazing, Enough about with them. The Robbie Crouch car.
- 32:04Speaker 4: Just met with Robbie Crouch Saturday to get his autograph
- 32:07Speaker 4: on his second car.
- 32:08Speaker 3: We have two of his cars this year, and.
- 32:11Speaker 4: Of course he was a very famous driver the Tampa
- 32:14Speaker 4: Tornado Ken Squire called him.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Speaking of Ken, We're going to show you his car
- 32:20Speaker 2: here in a second. But the quack and black.
- 32:27Speaker 3: That artist is only about twelve years old. Seriously, seriously.
- 32:34Speaker 4: Roger King is her dad, and he did one last
- 32:39Speaker 4: year for us, and this year he said his daughter
- 32:40Speaker 4: wanted to do one, so he did one, and she
- 32:43Speaker 4: did one and she did the quack as black. I
- 32:46Speaker 4: assume you're showing that now.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I think she's approximately twelve years old. And Roger
- 32:52Speaker 4: King is known. He used to be the pro at
- 32:54Speaker 4: the Berry Country Club. Now he's the pro at sugar
- 32:56Speaker 4: Bush Golf Course.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Amazing. That's Nelly King, the decorator of that one.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Wow, here's the the v W. Which one the orange one?
- 33:10Speaker 2: The Jerry Pantoni.
- 33:13Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, we've got a video of him.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Wow, look at that. What what year is that Beetle?
- 33:21Speaker 2: Do we know?
- 33:22Speaker 3: I don't I don't know. I would say the sixties. Well,
- 33:27Speaker 3: they were racing in the seventies, so I would assume
- 33:29Speaker 3: it would be late late late sixties.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Okay.
- 33:33Speaker 3: Uh.
- 33:35Speaker 4: Somehow though, Joey told me I think that some of
- 33:38Speaker 4: his cars were in his vws were in the sixties.
- 33:41Speaker 3: Okay.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I got a friend with the sixty seven Beetle convertible.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Oh okay, yeah, m look at these Look at these cars. Now,
- 33:52Speaker 2: what's the deal with the monkeys?
- 33:56Speaker 4: Oh, so we'll ask the audience what's the difference between
- 34:02Speaker 4: a chimp and a monkey? And maybe somebody can write
- 34:05Speaker 4: in and tell us the answer to that.
- 34:07Speaker 3: We'll say what the answer is in a little bit.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Is that fair enough? Yeah, of course that works. Of course,
- 34:12Speaker 3: so we do.
- 34:15Speaker 4: We do have some chimps chimpanzees this summer. That's the
- 34:18Speaker 4: first time having the chimps. And there is a difference
- 34:22Speaker 4: between a chimp and a monkey. Anybody giving any answers there?
- 34:27Speaker 2: Not quite yet, not yet.
- 34:29Speaker 4: Well it'll be it'll be a test and we'll have
- 34:33Speaker 4: some fun.
- 34:33Speaker 3: But we've got some chimps that are just decorated. Awesome, awesome, awesome.
- 34:40Speaker 4: I'm not sure which one you're looking at right now,
- 34:43Speaker 4: mister Jigs. Mister Jiggs, he's got his hand out for
- 34:47Speaker 4: some solicitations there, and you can come by this summer
- 34:51Speaker 4: and put some hundred dollars bills in his plate.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Wow, love the love the shirt on mister Jigs. The bug.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Look at that. Incredible.
- 35:04Speaker 4: I think that's the Granite City Granite Center Garden Club.
- 35:08Speaker 4: And so just for the viewing audience, sometimes we give
- 35:13Speaker 4: this art item to the artists and say.
- 35:15Speaker 3: Please decorate it.
- 35:16Speaker 4: With a certain theme, or if it's a race car driver,
- 35:20Speaker 4: we say it must be decorated like the original race car.
- 35:24Speaker 4: But we also give some of these art items to
- 35:26Speaker 4: folks and say decorate it however you want. Sure, just
- 35:30Speaker 4: let your creative juices flow. And that's how that car
- 35:34Speaker 4: was decorated. They were just free rein do whatever they
- 35:37Speaker 4: wanted with it. Last year they had a coup that
- 35:39Speaker 4: was out in front of the Posh Salon had a
- 35:43Speaker 4: garden hose on the front of it.
- 35:44Speaker 3: All that stuff is made by hand.
- 35:46Speaker 4: Any any peripheral things that you see on these animals
- 35:50Speaker 4: are all made by hand by the artist, formed by
- 35:54Speaker 4: hand and added to the bare fiberglass and.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Getting as worst Jan this morning, Jan just a.
- 36:05Speaker 4: Little under the weather this morning. I'm sorry she couldn't
- 36:07Speaker 4: make it. That's Jan Spargo and she helps out with
- 36:12Speaker 4: the project. Linda Canari has been helping for years and
- 36:15Speaker 4: years and years. This year Linda stepped back just a
- 36:18Speaker 4: little bit, although she's still heavily involved, but Jan is
- 36:21Speaker 4: trying to take over some of the things, getting the artists,
- 36:24Speaker 4: working with the artists, teaching the artists that aren't familiar
- 36:27Speaker 4: with certain ways to decorate the animals, that sort.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Of thing, and you have you have some volunteers that
- 36:35Speaker 2: I'm sure you're gonna want to throw some kudos out
- 36:38Speaker 2: that have been instrumental in past years who go around
- 36:42Speaker 2: and clean these art pieces to make sure all the
- 36:45Speaker 2: dust and dirt and grind that from passing trucks and
- 36:48Speaker 2: vehicles are cleaned off of these and they look like
- 36:51Speaker 2: a million dollars.
- 36:52Speaker 3: Yeah, we try to get them washed three times a week.
- 36:54Speaker 4: They do get dirty quick because, as you know, they're
- 36:57Speaker 4: in the main street with vehicles.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Going by every day.
- 36:59Speaker 4: So I can't remember necessarily all the volunteers, but I
- 37:03Speaker 4: know Linda Babbitt comes down with my wife. I know
- 37:06Speaker 4: Linda Canary comes down once a week. For all the
- 37:09Speaker 4: years we've been doing this, the Northfield Savings Bank has
- 37:13Speaker 4: some of their folks go once a week and wash
- 37:17Speaker 4: the whole batch and that takes a while to wash all.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Last year we.
- 37:21Speaker 4: Had forty items, this year forty six, so that takes
- 37:24Speaker 4: a while. We've had the Spaulding Interact Club come down
- 37:28Speaker 4: and we're always looking for people to volunteer. It's nice
- 37:32Speaker 4: if we get somebody that'll do it once a week
- 37:34Speaker 4: that sort of thing or once every other week, and
- 37:37Speaker 4: Wabby's lets us store a little red wagon over there
- 37:40Speaker 4: that we use with the water and the mitts and
- 37:43Speaker 4: that sort of a thing.
- 37:44Speaker 2: So I didn't know Chan was an artist.
- 37:48Speaker 3: She's a great artist. She's a great artist.
- 37:50Speaker 4: She did She did a Bruins bear last year that
- 37:54Speaker 4: went for thirty six hundred at the auction.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Unreal man, and that kind of remembered that Bruins bear.
- 38:00Speaker 4: Kind of gave other artists the idea of doing some
- 38:02Speaker 4: bears to emulate Bruins. In Roger King's case, he did
- 38:07Speaker 4: a chimp and it emulates a baseball catcher.
- 38:11Speaker 3: I think you may have shown that before.
- 38:13Speaker 2: But she did Little Harley.
- 38:16Speaker 4: She did Little Harley. Little Harley is up at Wilkins
- 38:19Speaker 4: right now. They're the sponsor, and Lil Harley is up
- 38:23Speaker 4: there on display. People can go up there and see it,
- 38:26Speaker 4: but they can also do a pre bid on it.
- 38:28Speaker 4: So this is something new we're trying this year. We
- 38:31Speaker 4: have a Little Harley there and we have a dog
- 38:34Speaker 4: over at Wabi's. Those are the only two that you
- 38:37Speaker 4: can do pre bids on, and whatever those bids work
- 38:42Speaker 4: their way up to is what the starting bid will
- 38:45Speaker 4: be at.
- 38:45Speaker 3: The live auction.
- 38:47Speaker 4: So at our live auction, our minimum bid is always
- 38:49Speaker 4: five hundred dollars. Let's say Little Harley brings in a
- 38:52Speaker 4: seven hundred high bid up there, It'll start at seven
- 38:55Speaker 4: hundred at the live auction. But the high bidder doesn't
- 38:58Speaker 4: necessarily have to be at the auction.
- 39:01Speaker 2: I don't think any of them have to be there right.
- 39:03Speaker 4: Right, well, but let's say somebody came in with the
- 39:05Speaker 4: motorcycle from Canada, which they do it Harley, David, Harley, Wilkinson,
- 39:09Speaker 4: Davison all the time. They can get in touch with
- 39:12Speaker 4: me before the auction, give me a credit card number,
- 39:15Speaker 4: and I will have a stand in bidder for them
- 39:17Speaker 4: to bid on Little Harley or any art item. Or
- 39:21Speaker 4: they can go on our zoom call, which is live
- 39:24Speaker 4: of the auction. They can see each item being bid on,
- 39:28Speaker 4: they can see the auctioneer, and the auctioneer can see them,
- 39:32Speaker 4: and they can actually bid live on that zoom call
- 39:35Speaker 4: at the auction.
- 39:36Speaker 2: So that's a busy job. Who's the auctioneer.
- 39:39Speaker 3: The auctioneer is Eric Hudson.
- 39:44Speaker 4: Okay, he comes from Saint John's Very He is a
- 39:46Speaker 4: professional auctioneer for something like this. He did a fantastic
- 39:50Speaker 4: job for the first two years. He will be back
- 39:53Speaker 4: this year and rich Patoniac will be doing the JD
- 40:00Speaker 4: work this year for us.
- 40:02Speaker 3: He did it two.
- 40:03Speaker 4: Years ago and then Michael Potzuba did it last year.
- 40:06Speaker 4: But Richard is coming back this year to do that.
- 40:09Speaker 3: He does a great job, fantastic job.
- 40:11Speaker 4: He plays music to emulate race cars or dogs barking
- 40:14Speaker 4: or whatever it is the auction not so.
- 40:16Speaker 2: Speaking of dogs, I'm looking at ginger noodles here. Also
- 40:21Speaker 2: pause and love the the kitty cat. I mean, this
- 40:25Speaker 2: is really really amazing stuff. Incredible.
- 40:31Speaker 3: Do you get any comments on the chimpanzee and the monkey?
- 40:34Speaker 2: Just Jfred bunks is the chimpanzee?
- 40:38Speaker 4: Well, they're all chimpanzees, but the question is what's the
- 40:42Speaker 4: difference between its chimpanzee?
- 40:43Speaker 2: Well, Alice, Alice says, looks like it's left to me.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Monkeys have tails, Chimps don't. She's right, Chimps pair usually larger.
- 40:55Speaker 2: I shall now go back to my corner. Thank you
- 40:59Speaker 2: very much for that.
- 41:00Speaker 3: We appreciate that.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Yeah, we're looking at him right now. Just in incredible
- 41:07Speaker 2: work here. I want to show the the Ken Squire
- 41:11Speaker 2: car here.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Of course there's a story.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I obviously want to hear it's what's the deal
- 41:20Speaker 2: with it? We're showing it on camera, right.
- 41:22Speaker 4: So WDEV went on the air in nineteen thirty one,
- 41:28Speaker 4: that's right. And Ken Squire somewhere along the way bought
- 41:32Speaker 4: a Ford nineteen thirty one Ford panel truck yep and
- 41:38Speaker 4: had it at thunder Road at certain events.
- 41:41Speaker 3: He had it at WDE events over the years.
- 41:45Speaker 4: And Jan Spargo on her own went out and got
- 41:50Speaker 4: a sponsor for that car.
- 41:51Speaker 3: I believe it's a.
- 41:52Speaker 4: Little more wild Ford, and she started decorating with a
- 41:59Speaker 4: nineteen thirty for Ford coop that we had on display
- 42:02Speaker 4: last summer. So the Arcana shop did not do a
- 42:07Speaker 4: panel truck for us. Jan had to fabricate that panel
- 42:10Speaker 4: truck by hand by herself. Hi, Joe Waldsworth, Oh pretty
- 42:15Speaker 4: good yourself? Are you here on an official visit? We
- 42:24Speaker 4: have fire extinguishers here. Chief just wants you to know.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Joe's gonna hop on here in just a second. Give
- 42:31Speaker 2: us an update on the weather and nice all kinds
- 42:35Speaker 2: of fun things like ice jams and you know the
- 42:38Speaker 2: things that they live for.
- 42:41Speaker 4: Umpire knows all about ice jams. I was in that
- 42:43Speaker 4: city when it flooded from the ice jam years years
- 42:46Speaker 4: at ninety two, well, I think it was ninety two.
- 42:50Speaker 4: I actually was inside the municipal building up at the
- 42:54Speaker 4: Tippity top and the clock tower, putting an antenna on
- 42:56Speaker 4: there for my communications business Mumplear Police or Fire department
- 43:01Speaker 4: at the time, and I could look down and had
- 43:03Speaker 4: a tremendous view of the water.
- 43:05Speaker 3: It was just awful.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Carl, what do you think this Squire car is gonna
- 43:11Speaker 2: end up? Possibly the highest bidding.
- 43:14Speaker 3: Oh, definitely, this gets auctioned off to the highest bidder.
- 43:17Speaker 3: This will be on to what I'm saying.
- 43:18Speaker 2: You think this one's can pull in more money than
- 43:21Speaker 2: any other car?
- 43:22Speaker 3: Possibly?
- 43:23Speaker 4: Possibly, possibly, although the bear with the Bruins autograph on
- 43:27Speaker 4: it might be right up there.
- 43:28Speaker 2: All right, we'll see, depends on how the Bruins are
- 43:32Speaker 2: gonna do.
- 43:33Speaker 3: Well.
- 43:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know the player that autographed that car,
- 43:39Speaker 4: Tim Thomas. He was on the team they wanted Stanley Cup.
- 43:42Speaker 4: He brought the Stanley crump to Church Street, okay, and
- 43:45Speaker 4: he said he went down on Church Street JFK style,
- 43:48Speaker 4: but they didn't get shot. Okay, you can watch that
- 43:55Speaker 4: video on our website.
- 43:56Speaker 2: This is all amazing stuff here. And I'm just still
- 44:00Speaker 2: scrolling through, but it's just amazing. It's amazing.
- 44:06Speaker 4: Uh.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Firefighter Flow by Sarah Sprague, Corey Kitchen's Corey Kitchen and
- 44:15Speaker 2: Spirits sponsoring.
- 44:16Speaker 4: Chief step in here and look at that bear and
- 44:19Speaker 4: and and ask him if he can see anything connected
- 44:22Speaker 4: to fire flow.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Chief. Hop up here, man, grab grab that mic. We're
- 44:29Speaker 2: gonna chat with you.
- 44:31Speaker 3: I love the fact look at his screen, Joe.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Yeah, what do you think of this? Buddy? You want
- 44:37Speaker 2: to get in on that.
- 44:38Speaker 3: You see any fire department colors?
- 44:39Speaker 4: There?
- 44:40Speaker 2: A few? Yeah, we get the water. They didn't even
- 44:46Speaker 2: think of that. Yeah, pretty nice. That'll be right in
- 44:52Speaker 2: front of the Cory right is where that Yes, that's.
- 44:55Speaker 3: Just Cory as a sponsor and the artist.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Is uh that's Sarah's break.
- 45:01Speaker 3: Very good, very good. Yeah, she did a nice job.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Yeah, we're gonna we're gonna just chat about this, uh
- 45:10Speaker 2: this weather weather situation here, which is uh not not
- 45:17Speaker 2: great Chief. Good morning, Good morning sir. How are you
- 45:21Speaker 2: glad to have you in here?
- 45:22Speaker 3: Man?
- 45:22Speaker 2: What what can you tell us? Uh? I know we've
- 45:25Speaker 2: got warm temps, we've got some rain that is supposed
- 45:29Speaker 2: to be coming down We've had some freezing rain. We're
- 45:32Speaker 2: probably going to continue to have some freezing rain here
- 45:34Speaker 2: depending on where you are this morning, for the next
- 45:39Speaker 2: couple of hours until these these temps tick up. So
- 45:42Speaker 2: please be careful not just on the roads, but also
- 45:45Speaker 2: on the on the back roads and the and the
- 45:47Speaker 2: sidewalks too. But there's there's some concern about flooding and
- 45:53Speaker 2: the National Weather Service has put out a statement this morning.
- 45:56Speaker 2: What can you tell us?
- 45:58Speaker 7: So we're expected to get anywhere from three quarters of
- 46:01Speaker 7: an inch to an inch over the next twenty four hours.
- 46:04Speaker 7: I've been out looking at our waterways and right now
- 46:08Speaker 7: that everything looks nice and clear. Waterways are low, so
- 46:12Speaker 7: we have some capacity. Our concern is debris and ice
- 46:16Speaker 7: coming from up higher, so like the gunner Brook three
- 46:20Speaker 7: oh two, the Stevens Branch, you know, and down from Southbury.
- 46:25Speaker 7: That stuff that's what clogs us up during the when
- 46:28Speaker 7: the wintertime, the wintertime flood events. So right now we
- 46:32Speaker 7: have plenty of capacity. Have been in contact with Montpellier's
- 46:36Speaker 7: fire chief pretty much the last two days. They were
- 46:39Speaker 7: doing some thawing of their ice pack and so that's
- 46:44Speaker 7: been successful.
- 46:46Speaker 3: I've seen.
- 46:48Speaker 7: I've seen some of the pictures of their waterways and channels,
- 46:51Speaker 7: and most of their debris has been cleared out. There
- 46:54Speaker 7: are a couple of concern spots that I've been talking
- 46:57Speaker 7: with the town manager in Barry Town, and then Berlin
- 47:02Speaker 7: knows that they have a small little area that is
- 47:05Speaker 7: a concerned behind tractor supply. But all in all, I
- 47:08Speaker 7: think we're in good shape. It's not going to be
- 47:11Speaker 7: a quick hard thaw, but I think we're going to
- 47:16Speaker 7: get some capacity here and we'll see how that goes.
- 47:19Speaker 7: We have a lot of snow up in the higher
- 47:21Speaker 7: elevations so that I think last time I saw it
- 47:23Speaker 7: was one hundred and three inches, which is considerably more
- 47:27Speaker 7: than what we normally get. It's about four feet more.
- 47:30Speaker 7: But all in all, I think we're good. As long
- 47:32Speaker 7: as we have that nice, easy thaw will be good.
- 47:35Speaker 7: The city has been doing some preparations on some of
- 47:37Speaker 7: the external like by Cliff and Dalmont and Park Street.
- 47:43Speaker 7: The Jefferson Street calvert looks nice, trustle's clear, so I
- 47:48Speaker 7: think all in all we're in pretty good shape.
- 47:50Speaker 2: We've had a cold winter though, which has stiffened up
- 47:55Speaker 2: a lot of these waterways unlike last year, and I
- 48:01Speaker 2: know that you talk about the quick thoughts being the
- 48:05Speaker 2: dangerous ones. But still though even with that uh, that
- 48:08Speaker 2: ice pack, there's there's what's the concern level right now
- 48:13Speaker 2: for for not only Barry, but what do you what
- 48:16Speaker 2: do you hear not a mont pillar like scale of
- 48:18Speaker 2: zero to ten. Like so we're just we're watching it.
- 48:22Speaker 7: We're cautiously optimistic and we're just watching it right now.
- 48:26Speaker 7: I mean, really we will matters where the showers come,
- 48:29Speaker 7: you know, where do we get the uh you know,
- 48:32Speaker 7: the pockets of rain that will come through right now?
- 48:35Speaker 7: The ground is frozen and so everything that we're going
- 48:39Speaker 7: to get is run off. One thing that is positive
- 48:43Speaker 7: is not really positive. But the snowpack has really no
- 48:47Speaker 7: capacity to to gain more because there's a layer and
- 48:50Speaker 7: that's a hard crust that was frozen from back in
- 48:54Speaker 7: and uh that first January and you know on that
- 48:58Speaker 7: end of January there. So that's where we're watching it
- 49:01Speaker 7: to see what's going to happen. I would ask people
- 49:04Speaker 7: to make sure that those that have flat roofs to
- 49:06Speaker 7: make sure that they get some cleared off so that
- 49:09Speaker 7: the water can sheet sheen off. That's just going to
- 49:14Speaker 7: gain more weight. And so I think that's important that
- 49:17Speaker 7: people just pay attention to those folks with flat roofs
- 49:20Speaker 7: or semi flat, you know, the two twelve pitches. That's
- 49:24Speaker 7: really important.
- 49:25Speaker 2: This is a time of year where there's so much
- 49:28Speaker 2: to be thinking about. Making sure hydrants are are cleared out,
- 49:32Speaker 2: making sure, you know, Joe and I've been banging this
- 49:36Speaker 2: drum for twenty plus years, but you know, making sure
- 49:41Speaker 2: that you know, drains are as clear as possible to
- 49:46Speaker 2: receive melting snow but also rain. Making sure your heating
- 49:54Speaker 2: vents are cleared out, your your heat access, your tank
- 49:59Speaker 2: access is accessible. I mean, the list, my god, the
- 50:02Speaker 2: list goes on and on.
- 50:04Speaker 7: As we enter our fifth season, the mud season, I mean,
- 50:07Speaker 7: we're gonna have those challenges until we can get dried out.
- 50:11Speaker 7: We're still you know, not out of winter yet. We're
- 50:13Speaker 7: still gonna you know, be under the gun for one
- 50:16Speaker 7: good uh snow storm left, you know, and but you know,
- 50:19Speaker 7: we're gonna have to deal with the ice. And of
- 50:21Speaker 7: course it's you know, it's a steady rain right now.
- 50:24Speaker 7: So take the time and you know, you know, clear
- 50:28Speaker 7: out your hydrants, make sure, you know, you take your prevention.
- 50:31Speaker 7: One of the things that people forget is that once
- 50:34Speaker 7: that the snow accumulates, those vents really don't function properly
- 50:38Speaker 7: until you know, and so take the time and remove
- 50:43Speaker 7: that out. It's a really a safety issue for your
- 50:46Speaker 7: your home and your your family.
- 50:48Speaker 2: So we got the widespread rain, the snow melt, the
- 50:52Speaker 2: warming conditions. We have some you know, some advisories for Clinton, Essex, Frame, Glynn,
- 51:00Speaker 2: Saint Lawrence counties in New York and pretty much all
- 51:04Speaker 2: of us here in central Vermont. I know they're they're
- 51:08Speaker 2: watching the Matt River over there in more Town, but
- 51:12Speaker 2: we're watching things carefully right here, and rest assured that
- 51:17Speaker 2: the crews are out there doing all they can to
- 51:19Speaker 2: be ready for this and will continue to you guys, Carl.
- 51:24Speaker 2: They don't take the afternoon nap uh. These guys are
- 51:30Speaker 2: constantly eyes wide open and monitoring things and busting their butts.
- 51:35Speaker 2: And thank god that we've got them here watching our back.
- 51:38Speaker 2: Thank you, Joe, absolutely, thank you very much.
- 51:43Speaker 3: Take care, Thank you for coming by.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Carl and Joe Waldsworth, which we appreciate so much. Just
- 51:52Speaker 2: thank you, buddy. And isn't it great that these guys
- 51:58Speaker 2: Carl can just walk right in here and jumping a mic.
- 52:02Speaker 4: That is a good feature. I mean, Joe is very
- 52:07Speaker 4: willing to do that sort of thing. I've known him
- 52:09Speaker 4: for a long time. And all our community servants or
- 52:15Speaker 4: employees whichever way you would like to refer to them,
- 52:19Speaker 4: are very kind and doing that sort of thing, and
- 52:21Speaker 4: they're very diligent on.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Their jobs and what they do.
- 52:25Speaker 4: The other heroes are the snowplow drivers that are out
- 52:29Speaker 4: there and the slipperiest of conditions when some people wouldn't
- 52:33Speaker 4: dare venture out, they're going out. When they're going gets tough,
- 52:37Speaker 4: The tough get going and they're the tough they are,
- 52:40Speaker 4: and they're out there standing insulting and plowing the roads
- 52:42Speaker 4: and keeping things safe for citizens.
- 52:45Speaker 2: And putting in huge hours.
- 52:47Speaker 4: They both the city and the town have very good
- 52:49Speaker 4: crews to do good work.
- 52:50Speaker 2: And it's like Joe just said, it's it's not over.
- 52:53Speaker 2: I mean, some of these March snowstorms, as most modern
- 52:58Speaker 2: snow can produce some of the highest totals, so.
- 53:03Speaker 3: We get a lot of snow in March. I'm a skier,
- 53:05Speaker 3: a downhill skier, what and.
- 53:08Speaker 2: We're well, I know that you used to be, but still.
- 53:12Speaker 3: Yesterday it was day thirty for me on the Ski Mountain.
- 53:17Speaker 2: Are you pising me, man?
- 53:18Speaker 3: No, No, I'm telling you the truth.
- 53:21Speaker 2: Where are you? How old you?
- 53:23Speaker 3: Well? That that's a.
- 53:26Speaker 4: Figure that lets me park in a special parking spot
- 53:31Speaker 4: at sugar Bushes.
- 53:31Speaker 3: A little sign there.
- 53:32Speaker 4: That says sugar Bush eighty and Older Club, and they
- 53:39Speaker 4: let me park there.
- 53:42Speaker 2: We used to have to, even though, even though you're
- 53:44Speaker 2: in your sixties, we used to let you park there.
- 53:47Speaker 3: We used to bring Roger Revard skiing with us because
- 53:50Speaker 3: he was always over eighty. I skied with him yesterday.
- 53:54Speaker 3: He's eighty nine.
- 53:55Speaker 2: Come on.
- 53:56Speaker 4: We used to just bring him so we could park
- 53:58Speaker 4: in the eighty plus parking spot. But now we don't
- 54:02Speaker 4: need him anymore because I can do it.
- 54:04Speaker 2: But Carl, if you go down, it takes a little
- 54:10Speaker 2: while to get up there.
- 54:11Speaker 3: But yeah, I have to have people help me.
- 54:13Speaker 4: I have to take my skis off to get back up,
- 54:15Speaker 4: especially on a flat surface. I actually went down Sunday.
- 54:19Speaker 4: I whacked into my nephew and the two of us
- 54:21Speaker 4: went down. That does happen once in a while.
- 54:24Speaker 2: Yeah, what did you say to him after you after
- 54:26Speaker 2: the crash?
- 54:27Speaker 3: I don't think it's appropriate on the microphone.
- 54:30Speaker 2: Here, Carl, Thank you for coming in. Get back in here,
- 54:36Speaker 2: would you. I want to see you. I want to
- 54:38Speaker 2: see it more.
- 54:39Speaker 4: Well, come back in and give you a little update
- 54:42Speaker 4: on all the little things that we're doing with badc
- 54:45Speaker 4: all right, all the little stores that are looking for
- 54:48Speaker 4: some action in their open spaces. We've got a bunch
- 54:51Speaker 4: of businesses looking for space, working with folks.
- 54:54Speaker 3: So we'll talk about that.
- 54:56Speaker 2: You know, I'm passionate about that, as are you. Let's
- 54:59Speaker 2: let's get that word spread back to our community.
- 55:03Speaker 3: Okay, thank you very much.
- 55:04Speaker 2: I look forward to it. Thank you, Carl, Carl Rinker
- 55:07Speaker 2: this morning with us right here the aired out podcast.
- 56:00Speaker 1: A defect be sorted. Disobed the dospected decided to disoble
- 56:12Speaker 1: to the expected. This tact the stepping un packet to
- 56:22Speaker 1: the expected. The tact the supple
