- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey everyone, I wanted to post a quick note here about podcast episodes during the last week of December.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I'm actually taking a very short one-week break from the podcast so I can spend some extra time working on my next book and also doing some planning for 2021.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: We have nearly 300 episodes of the Daily Writer Podcast published, so I encourage you to take some time, look back through the archives, and catch up on some episodes that you might have missed.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: I especially want to encourage you to check out a few episodes that were published over the last few months that have really struck a nerve with people.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: And I think you're going to enjoy these also quite a bit if you haven't yet listened to these.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: So there's three interviews and three solo episodes that I want to point you to.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: First are the interview episodes.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Number one is my interview with B.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Evans, where she talked about tear out the tags.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Man, what a powerful episode where she encouraged us to take off the labels that have been holding us back.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: That was a really, really amazing conversation.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Second interview is my conversation with Bethany Lee, who just published her first novel.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: And that episode is called The Journey of Writing a Novel.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: You're going to hear about her process for writing the novel and everything that was involved in that.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: That was really inspiring.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: So if you're considering writing a novel, definitely check that out.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Then third is my conversation with David Hancock, who is the CEO of Morgan James Publishing, which is a publisher that's focused primarily on helping entrepreneurs.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: I love Morgan James Publishing.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: David Hancock is a good friend.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: And in fact, I am a literary scout for Morgan James Publishing because I love the company so much.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: So check that out.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: You're going to learn a lot about the publishing world when you check out that interview.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: That one was over the summer.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: I don't remember the exact date, but you can find it back in the podcast feed.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Now, let me point out three solo episodes that I think you're going to enjoy if you have not yet checked these out.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Number one is 15 ways to make money as a writer.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: In that episode, I talk about, well, basically just 15 ways that you can make income from your writing skills.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: And these are not just writing-based skills, they are skills that are surrounding writing, as it were.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Things that involve marketing and relationships and other things that you can do that are kind of around the hub of writing.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: So if you want to start a writing business, make sure and check out that episode.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: 15 Ways to Make Money as a Writer.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Next is one that I did a few months ago called 20 Podcasting Lessons from 200 Episodes.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: And if you are considering starting your own podcast, I highly, highly encourage you to check out that episode because I basically, within like 45 minutes or an hour, however long that episode was, I basically condensed everything that I know about podcasting into that episode.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: So make sure and check that out.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: You'll learn a lot of good stuff.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: And also you'll probably uh avoid some heartache because I've made a lot of mistakes with my podcast.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: And if you listen to that, um you will avoid some of those mistakes that I share in that episode.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Then finally, make sure and check out the solo episode called The Introvert's Guide to Networking.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Now, you're probably thinking, hey, Kent, I thought this was a writing podcast.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Yes, it is, but part of growing your writing business and part of connecting with people is networking and relationships.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: We don't write and we don't create in a vacuum.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: We do it with people and we do it for people.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: So make sure and check out that podcast episode entitled The Introvert's Guide to Networking.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Now, before I close out this quick episode here, let me make a note about past episodes of this podcast.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: So if you've been listening to this show any length of time, more than a couple weeks, you probably know that uh this has been called a few different things over the years.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: From 2017 to 2019, this show was called Born to Create.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: From January to October of 2020, it was called Smart Business Writing.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: And then beginning in November, just a couple months ago, I switched the title to the Daily Writer.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Now, there's a lot of reasons behind that, and you can actually go back and listen to some episodes where I talked about that.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: But basically the point is if you're listening to episodes that are older than a couple months old, you're going to hear at the beginning of the episodes me talk about, hey, welcome to the Smart Business Writing Podcast or the Born Too Great Podcast and so forth.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: So don't let that mix you up or confuse you.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: It's just that I've changed the title a couple times.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Not something I recommend that you do, but I've done it and it's all seemed to work out just fine.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: So be that as it may.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Anyway, thanks so much for listening.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas and I hope that you're looking forward to 2021.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: 2020 has been a crazy year in so many respects, but don't let that hold you back.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Don't be one of those people who just says, oh, this is a crazy time in history, and I'm just gonna put my writing dreams on hold until life gets back to normal.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Well, I have some good news and some bad news, and both of those consist of this statement: things are not going to ever go back to normal, at least normal as we know it.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Things are gonna change, they're gonna shift, and you have to make a choice about whether you're going to forge ahead in your writing career, in your writing path, in your writing dreams, or whether you're just gonna stay stuck and wait for things to get back to normal, however you perceive what that normal is going to look like.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: So I encourage you to make 2021 your year to forge ahead with your writing dreams.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, why not?
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: This is an amazing time in history.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Yes, there's a pandemic, yes, there's all kinds of crazy things going on in the world, but let's be honest, the world is always in a state of flux.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Things are always going to be in a state of change, and there's there's never a bad time to start chasing your writing dreams.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: All you need is a computer and your brain and your good and an internet connection, and you're pretty much good to go.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: So thanks so much for listening to this episode.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: I will be back on January the 1st with the next episode, which will be titled The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Writers.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: We're going to talk about some things that need to be a part of your daily schedule, things that need to be a part of your daily process for you to be effective as a writer.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: So I'm really looking forward to sharing that with you.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: I'll be back with you in a few days, and I will see you in 2021 on January the 1st.
