- 1:03Speaker 3: We are a week away from day one of the
- 1:06Speaker 3: NFL Draft. If you had to, right now, give me
- 1:11Speaker 3: your best guess the name of the guy that will
- 1:14Speaker 3: be there at twenty that the Broncos will be interested
- 1:17Speaker 3: enough in to take.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Who is it?
- 1:20Speaker 3: Call your shot right now, unknowing what the board's going
- 1:22Speaker 3: to do in front of them.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Yeah, we're calling the shot at twenty. That's painful. I
- 1:29Speaker 4: can give you a group of players, Okay, I think
- 1:31Speaker 4: we'll be there. I think like Derek Harmon from Oregon
- 1:36Speaker 4: defensive linemen Em and Worry the safety from South Carolina.
- 1:42Speaker 4: I think Matthew Golden, the wide receiver from Texas. I
- 1:46Speaker 4: think that is the kind of group you're looking at,
- 1:50Speaker 4: and possibly one of the two or three best tackles
- 1:53Speaker 4: on the board would be there.
- 1:54Speaker 5: I think from talking to people.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Were you were you at with Tech McMillan.
- 2:00Speaker 5: You know he's in that group. I will I will
- 2:04Speaker 5: likely have him or I will have him in the
- 2:06Speaker 5: top top twenty. But he's.
- 2:11Speaker 4: You know, it's always for me for the Broncos. You're
- 2:13Speaker 4: looking for job description, and he's he's like Courtland Sutton,
- 2:18Speaker 4: and they already have Courtland Sutton. So you know, as
- 2:23Speaker 4: good as he is as a player, as good as
- 2:25Speaker 4: he is as a contested catch receiver, you know, I
- 2:31Speaker 4: think a guy like Golden would be a better addition.
- 2:34Speaker 4: But you know, again, those are win win decisions, and
- 2:38Speaker 4: those are both top twenty players in my book.
- 2:41Speaker 6: Jeffrey, I real quick though on the tackles you got
- 2:44Speaker 6: to you can you always need more?
- 2:46Speaker 4: I dig that it's like corners, Yeah, you know, corners
- 2:50Speaker 4: and tackles. I don't think you ever pass on. And
- 2:54Speaker 4: you know, Garrett Bowles and mcglinchy are our older tackles league.
- 3:00Speaker 6: They're not Spring chickens. I dig that, But but are
- 3:02Speaker 6: they good enough the Missouri kid or the Texas kid
- 3:05Speaker 6: or the who's the other guy? LSU l the LSU
- 3:09Speaker 6: kid Campbell is those guys. Are they good enough that
- 3:13Speaker 6: you can't pass a twenty even if there's a skill
- 3:16Speaker 6: position that can really help you.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:19Speaker 4: I mean, nobody's gonna get fired up about tackles because
- 3:23Speaker 4: it's not an immediate touch the ball, uh position. But
- 3:28Speaker 4: I think Will Campbell is one of the best players
- 3:31Speaker 4: in the draft. So if he's at twenty for me,
- 3:34Speaker 4: I'm hell, yes, you know that's that would be mine.
- 3:38Speaker 4: But again it's you know, it's just me Graydon But
- 3:42Speaker 4: you know, I think that's a primary roster position. But yes,
- 3:46Speaker 4: he does not touch the ball in theory, doesn't immediately
- 3:50Speaker 4: help uh, you know, bow knicks. But you know I
- 3:54Speaker 4: would I would counter as if you're a playoff team,
- 3:58Speaker 4: you try to be as deep as possible. And last year,
- 4:02Speaker 4: you know, if mcglinchy or Bulls gets hurt, I still
- 4:06Speaker 4: think that derails the Broncos pretty significantly. And we saw
- 4:11Speaker 4: what it looked like when Riley Moss got hurt last year.
- 4:14Speaker 4: So I think sometimes with the draft, you can't just
- 4:17Speaker 4: look at the at the twenty two starters and say,
- 4:21Speaker 4: you know, if that if the draft pick can't penetrate
- 4:25Speaker 4: the twenty two starters, you don't take them in the
- 4:27Speaker 4: first round. I think you got to look at it
- 4:29Speaker 4: as sort of a top thirty on your on your
- 4:32Speaker 4: depth chart.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Jeffrey, I have in my hand here fifty paces.
- 4:37Speaker 5: If I took the standing.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Yes, if I took these.
- 4:40Speaker 6: Fifty paces, he's he's absolutely bargained that fifty pacels Jeff
- 4:44Speaker 6: like one hundred times in his life on the show.
- 4:46Speaker 1: If I applied these, if that.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Work, that's worth like a tenth of a penny, right,
- 4:50Speaker 5: I mean, I know, Hey.
- 4:52Speaker 1: That's none of your business.
- 4:54Speaker 5: I'm trying it.
- 4:55Speaker 1: If I took these fifty paces and I bet them
- 4:58Speaker 1: on whether the Broncos would stay at twenty, move up
- 5:02Speaker 1: or move back, where should I place these fifty paces.
- 5:06Speaker 4: I still think it's they stay at twenty because it's
- 5:09Speaker 4: too hard to move, not because they don't they would
- 5:12Speaker 4: want to or might think about it. I just think
- 5:15Speaker 4: it's difficult on this board to move to move much
- 5:19Speaker 4: because I think a lot of people are gonna be
- 5:20Speaker 4: looking to move down.
- 5:21Speaker 5: Vic.
- 5:22Speaker 4: This is a thin board at the top, and if
- 5:24Speaker 4: everybody's first rounders are gone, they're gonna be looking. Folks
- 5:28Speaker 4: are gonna be looking to move out. And the strength
- 5:30Speaker 4: of the draft is is rounds two through five, So
- 5:33Speaker 4: you don't want to surrender those picks, you know, to
- 5:38Speaker 4: move you know in general?
- 5:40Speaker 3: Uh, can I play a piece of audio for you?
- 5:43Speaker 3: This is Ashton Genty on the Overtime podcast. He was
- 5:47Speaker 3: asked the question who's been talking to you the most?
- 5:50Speaker 1: Here's what he said, who.
- 5:51Speaker 6: You've been talking to the most?
- 5:54Speaker 7: I mean I so now I have just like separate meetings,
- 5:57Speaker 7: like like the Browns running back to talk to me,
- 6:00Speaker 7: like it's all like separate, like who wants to Seahawks.
- 6:04Speaker 7: But at the actual draft, I talked to twenty different
- 6:08Speaker 7: teams at the combine, excuse me, and really the Denver
- 6:11Speaker 7: Broncos they was heavy on me and the Raiders they
- 6:15Speaker 7: was heavy like we was talking to most, like even
- 6:17Speaker 7: while all the running backs is doing drills because I
- 6:19Speaker 7: wasn't competing, like they was talking to me the whole time,
- 6:22Speaker 7: like you know what I'm saying.
- 6:23Speaker 3: So I have one question when I heard that the
- 6:27Speaker 3: Broncos are at twenty, there feels like there's a very,
- 6:30Speaker 3: very very slim chance he drops to twenty. Why would
- 6:33Speaker 3: the Broncos talk to him that much, in his words,
- 6:35Speaker 3: the most out of all the teams at the combine
- 6:38Speaker 3: if they aren't going to be in a position to
- 6:39Speaker 3: draft him at twenty.
- 6:41Speaker 5: You know, some of it's due diligence, some of it
- 6:44Speaker 5: is a scout or position coach with the Broncos may
- 6:48Speaker 5: just really like talking to the kid at the combine.
- 6:52Speaker 5: I will say Louiami is one of the most personable
- 6:57Speaker 5: guys you're.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Ever gonna meet. The Broncos running back coach. I mean,
- 7:02Speaker 4: you want to talk about a guy who has the
- 7:05Speaker 4: disposition you're going to remember talking to if you're a
- 7:08Speaker 4: young person.
- 7:09Speaker 5: It's him. So doesn't shock me if Lou was indeed
- 7:14Speaker 5: the guy, and I would think he was.
- 7:17Speaker 4: And because in the mix zones at the combine and
- 7:20Speaker 4: the informal settings, it's almost always the position coach and
- 7:25Speaker 4: two or three of the senior scouts who are mingling
- 7:29Speaker 4: with the players that day, So that wouldn't shock me. Again,
- 7:33Speaker 4: you know a lot of players tell me they really
- 7:36Speaker 4: enjoy talking to loot, so it wouldn't shock me. They
- 7:39Speaker 4: asking genty did as well. So some of it's just personality.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Some of it is, you know, they might really like
- 7:46Speaker 4: the player, and hey, you know, a.
- 7:49Speaker 5: Running back dropping to twenty is not like this galactic event.
- 7:53Speaker 5: It could certainly happen.
- 7:55Speaker 4: And if all these quarterback i mean, Jaylen Milroe was
- 7:58Speaker 4: invited to the draft, so they don't do that unless
- 8:02Speaker 4: they've got intel point in some fashion. So if all
- 8:07Speaker 4: the you know, the Broncos want everyone to go crazy
- 8:11Speaker 4: on quarterbacks, that's what the Broncos want. Broncos want everybody
- 8:16Speaker 4: talking about. Yeah, can you believe all these quarterbacks went
- 8:21Speaker 4: in the first round after everyone said the class wasn't
- 8:24Speaker 4: very good. That's what the Broncos want, because then at twenty,
- 8:29Speaker 4: they're picking from five guys with first round grades instead
- 8:33Speaker 4: of two guys with first round grades.
- 8:36Speaker 6: Very interesting. That being said, then i've seen Chador again.
- 8:40Speaker 6: We're talking about this private workout with the Giants, and
- 8:44Speaker 6: the Giants also say, hey, by the way, if we
- 8:46Speaker 6: draft Travis Hunter, we're gonna play in both ways. I mean,
- 8:50Speaker 6: so the Giants are seemingly focused on Colorado guys. Could
- 8:55Speaker 6: Shador go three. Could he go ten? I mean, what
- 8:57Speaker 6: are you looking at, Herenna go to the Raiders at six?
- 9:00Speaker 6: What's going on?
- 9:02Speaker 4: Well, most of the giants worked out individually, most of
- 9:08Speaker 4: the top quarterbacks, and even the guys who were second
- 9:11Speaker 4: and third round, they've had individual workouts with the quarterbacks
- 9:16Speaker 4: down the board too.
- 9:17Speaker 5: So I wouldn't think, you.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Know, just because they work should her out doesn't mean
- 9:22Speaker 4: they're thinking of them in the top five. They could
- 9:25Speaker 4: be thinking of them in the comeback round, pick in
- 9:28Speaker 4: the second round. I mean that's but they worked out guys,
- 9:32Speaker 4: you know down in the third down in the late two.
- 9:35Speaker 4: I mean they've done their due diligence with the quarterbacks.
- 9:38Speaker 4: I think shaders work out with them, just got out
- 9:42Speaker 4: or noticed while they were doing all these other workouts too.
- 9:46Speaker 4: I'm almost certain they worked out mil Row and I
- 9:50Speaker 4: think they worked out Shuck from Louisville too.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I want to go back to how you opened this interview,
- 9:55Speaker 1: because Brett tried to press you on maybe some of
- 9:59Speaker 1: the prospects the Broncos would be looking at regarding pick
- 10:02Speaker 1: number twenty, Derek Harmon, Matthew Golden, all that stuff. Do
- 10:06Speaker 1: you think it's going to be an offensive player. Do
- 10:09Speaker 1: you think it's offense more so than defense.
- 10:12Speaker 5: Well, I mean, they open the checkbook for defense and
- 10:15Speaker 5: free agency, so that tells me they thought the draft
- 10:19Speaker 5: board early especially is leaning hard offense. So I think
- 10:24Speaker 5: it would make sense that they're hoping, Okay, some of
- 10:28Speaker 5: the players they have graded there are there.
- 10:31Speaker 4: But you know, the last thing they should do is
- 10:35Speaker 4: take an offensive player they have graded in the second
- 10:38Speaker 4: round over a first round defensive player.
- 10:41Speaker 5: That's the last thing you should do.
- 10:43Speaker 1: At noon today, Coach Peyton and George Payton will be
- 10:47Speaker 1: available via zoom to talk about pre draft questions and all.
- 10:50Speaker 1: And I'm gonna be blunt with you. I think it's
- 10:53Speaker 1: the biggest waste of time of an interview session in
- 10:56Speaker 1: the history of interview sessions. When when you're pressing the
- 10:59Speaker 1: code in the GM and asking them about, hey, the
- 11:02Speaker 1: draft is next week. What do you think they're not
- 11:04Speaker 1: going to say anything. They'd be dumb to say anything.
- 11:07Speaker 6: Why are we doing this?
- 11:09Speaker 5: Well, some of it is just you know, the league
- 11:12Speaker 5: likes it. You know, the league likes us talking to
- 11:14Speaker 5: these teams and putting it all out there.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Look what the NFL has taken over March and April
- 11:23Speaker 4: as if it's nothing and that's what they like. So
- 11:27Speaker 4: this is all part of it. I mean, Vick, you
- 11:29Speaker 4: probably remember, but I used to open Mike Shanahan's draft
- 11:33Speaker 4: thing every year with.
- 11:35Speaker 5: Who do you have?
- 11:36Speaker 4: As the whatever pick they had in the first round?
- 11:39Speaker 4: I would say, who do you have as a tenth
- 11:41Speaker 4: player on the board. It was always my first question.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Wait a minute, that sounds like what I do to you.
- 11:47Speaker 5: Yeah, but you're not a professional.
- 11:51Speaker 6: You're just a rake amateur.
- 11:53Speaker 5: What are you doing?
- 11:54Speaker 6: You know what? Nelly, give me the music.
- 11:57Speaker 5: I've done that. I've done that with Sean Payton too,
- 12:00Speaker 5: but he's he's not quite as excited as my at
- 12:03Speaker 5: my queries.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Nelly, I got one more shot, Jeff, I mean, I
- 12:10Speaker 3: got I gotta give it a shot. If I if
- 12:13Speaker 3: I say this is past seventy, it's past seventy.
- 12:17Speaker 5: That's okay, give me what you got.
- 12:21Speaker 3: I want. Number seventy seven on Jeff Label's Top one hundred.
- 12:26Speaker 5: Look at seven is actually a player I love uh
- 12:30Speaker 5: Andrew but Kuba Safety from Texas Okay loving What do
- 12:35Speaker 5: you love about him? The guy gets the ball, He's
- 12:40Speaker 5: always around the ball. Spectacular player.
- 12:42Speaker 1: How big is he is he a bigger safety or small?
- 12:44Speaker 6: He's a six footer.
- 12:47Speaker 5: Five to eleven and a quarter one eighty six man.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Yeah, the ROCs have too many small safeties.
- 12:53Speaker 5: Yeah, no, that's the that's that's the game now.
- 12:56Speaker 4: The safeties are the size of corners back in the day,
- 12:59Speaker 4: and linebackers are the size of safety.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Hey, you know what's cool about this guy? Hey, we
- 13:05Speaker 1: did it. By the way, we got we got one.
- 13:07Speaker 1: We got got something out of him.
- 13:08Speaker 5: Man, on Thursday, you could have one, So there you go.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Look awesome. I just like to feel like a strong
- 13:16Speaker 1: armed you into it. That's just let me have this.
- 13:19Speaker 5: I awarded it to you, so there you go.
- 13:23Speaker 4: Given said you just got to go go full throttle
- 13:29Speaker 4: with take ownership of it.
- 13:31Speaker 5: He's absolutely that'd be great. Yeah, that way I could
- 13:34Speaker 5: be fired and you guys can take up a collection
- 13:39Speaker 5: on Wardrove.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Your boy is obsessed with this, I'm telling you.
- 13:44Speaker 6: I mean, as soon as the list comes out, he's
- 13:46Speaker 6: all over it, said Sunday.
- 13:49Speaker 5: Yeah, so if you tweet it, I'm a dead man.
- 13:51Speaker 5: So thank you very much.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Okay, I won't, I won't. I appreciate it. See, I
- 13:55Speaker 1: don't want to ruin this for next year.
- 13:57Speaker 6: But I'll tell you what's cool about maccob. I was
- 13:58Speaker 6: just reading about him. His parents and older siblings were
- 14:02Speaker 6: refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo. He was born
- 14:05Speaker 6: in Zimbabwe. They made it to the United States. And
- 14:08Speaker 6: he's this awesome football player.
- 14:09Speaker 1: That's so cool.
- 14:11Speaker 6: That's really cool, Jim.
- 14:13Speaker 4: He's a great coverage safety and in today's NFL you
- 14:17Speaker 4: gotta have coverage safeties.
- 14:18Speaker 6: Awesome, that's really cool.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Where do you think the Broncos are at on that?
- 14:21Speaker 3: By the way, because they signed Hufanga, I mean they have,
- 14:23Speaker 3: they have starting safeties, but are they looking like maybe
- 14:26Speaker 3: a year down the line, maybe they want to get
- 14:28Speaker 3: better or what would be that you know?
- 14:30Speaker 4: I think again, that's if you're a real playoff team,
- 14:33Speaker 4: you're planning for what could happen.
- 14:36Speaker 5: In the next season or two. Yeah, and you know,
- 14:39Speaker 5: are you going to give McMillan big money?
- 14:41Speaker 4: You know, yeah, you think he's one of the best
- 14:43Speaker 4: nickel corners in the league, But do you think he's
- 14:46Speaker 4: worth you know, top three.
- 14:48Speaker 5: Top four money?
- 14:50Speaker 4: And are you going to be able to spend it
- 14:51Speaker 4: there at that moment? So yeah, you should always have somebody,
- 14:55Speaker 4: you know, in house. That's that's what the good teams do.
- 14:58Speaker 5: And when the.
- 14:59Speaker 4: Broncos were good, that's what they did. They had people
- 15:02Speaker 4: in house to fill roles as they moved on. And
- 15:06Speaker 4: you know, every guy in the league who is a
- 15:09Speaker 4: personnel guy will tell you. You know the phrase they used,
- 15:12Speaker 4: it's a space and cover league on defense, and that
- 15:16Speaker 4: means corners, coverage, safeties, and pass rushers. You can absolutely
- 15:21Speaker 4: never have enough. And so yeah, I think always a
- 15:25Speaker 4: player like that should be on your radar.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Man, I'm looking through this. As you mentioned with Coouba,
- 15:30Speaker 1: there are a lot of prospects from the University of Texas.
- 15:34Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, they were loaded Ohio State, you know,
- 15:36Speaker 5: obviously loaded Oregon. I have a lot of guys I
- 15:41Speaker 5: liked from Oregon on that defense. Especially so in the SEC.
- 15:48Speaker 4: You watch the SEC because it's they're the easiest players
- 15:52Speaker 4: to evaluate because it's good on good every week. You
- 15:55Speaker 4: don't have to search five games to find a matchup
- 15:59Speaker 4: to see how guy can really play. So I think
- 16:02Speaker 4: the SEC will dominate the board when all is said
- 16:05Speaker 4: and done after the three days.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Hey, you think, speaking of Texas, that Gunner Helm, the
- 16:09Speaker 1: Cherry Creek product, that Texas. The Broncos might be looking
- 16:13Speaker 1: at him at all.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Oh, of course, yeah, he's exactly the kind of player.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Pussy's a great story. I mean, the guy has just
- 16:22Speaker 4: done nothing to get better and suddenly he's you know,
- 16:25Speaker 4: he's he's probably a Day two pick, very safe day
- 16:28Speaker 4: two pick.
- 16:28Speaker 3: I think, just quickly lay and God help me that
- 16:33Speaker 3: I want to ask a question about the twenty twenty
- 16:35Speaker 3: sixth draft.
- 16:37Speaker 5: Standing. Yeah, bringing on. I keep I'm having an anyth
- 16:41Speaker 5: because I spent six months with six hundred names, But yeah,
- 16:46Speaker 5: bring on next year.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Well, this one should be easy, This one should be easy.
- 16:50Speaker 3: I mean everybody is talking about, hey, you got a
- 16:52Speaker 3: tank for Arch, you know, and Arch played a little bit.
- 16:55Speaker 3: But I'm just in your eyes as an evaluator, like,
- 16:59Speaker 3: how much is of the Arch Manning mystique is real?
- 17:03Speaker 3: Oh my god, from the little we've seen, this guy
- 17:05Speaker 3: is going to be a bona fide number one overall pick.
- 17:07Speaker 3: And how much is that his last name is Manning
- 17:10Speaker 3: and so he gets a huge bump in that sense.
- 17:13Speaker 4: Well, if you're an evaluator, you know quarterbacks named Manning,
- 17:18Speaker 4: you're two for two. You know, in long time NFL players,
- 17:21Speaker 4: one's a Hall of Famer. One's been considered. Uh so, yeah,
- 17:26Speaker 4: you think the leading is just going to be pretty good.
- 17:29Speaker 6: Uh.
- 17:30Speaker 4: But I think the difference in Arch, especially for the
- 17:34Speaker 4: old scouts who evaluated the other two, is the athleticism
- 17:38Speaker 4: and the mobility is just spectacular. So, you know, he's
- 17:42Speaker 4: a modern quarterback with a manning head. You know, I
- 17:45Speaker 4: think people, I think people always wondered, what what what
- 17:49Speaker 4: what could have Peyton Ben as a player if he
- 17:52Speaker 4: had the movement skills you.
- 17:54Speaker 5: Know of of you know, a comparison somewhere, and Arch
- 17:59Speaker 5: has that in theory.
- 18:00Speaker 4: So I think that's the compelling thing is you get
- 18:04Speaker 4: a manning head on a very athletic quarterback.
- 18:07Speaker 3: But I always ask the questions with these guys, like

- 18:12Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 18:13Speaker 4: No, you could play like that the same thing as happening. Now,
- 18:16Speaker 4: some of the nil deals may not have come as quickly. Sure,
- 18:19Speaker 4: I mean, he had he had nil deals before he
- 18:21Speaker 4: had taken a snap. So it's you know that, I
- 18:25Speaker 4: think that's the difference.
- 18:26Speaker 5: You know. Sure, you know it's like Shador and you know,
- 18:31Speaker 5: once you have a name of it's recognizable. Uh, you

- 18:57Speaker 5: way right away. It's not a mistake. I did it
