- 0:18Speaker 2: How are you? Guys? Finally I get to be on
- 0:21Speaker 2: an episode with the spectacular Justice.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Wow, and this is It's perfect that we're recording our
- 0:27Speaker 1: Halloween special on November. What is it the second second?
- 0:32Speaker 1: I mean when I think of Halloween and horror movies,
- 0:35Speaker 1: it's always November, right, So we did a fantastic job
- 0:39Speaker 1: getting this here. But we're gonna have some fun today.
- 0:42Speaker 1: We're gonna be talking about our favorite horror movies, what
- 0:45Speaker 1: got us into horror, best icons in the history of
- 0:49Speaker 1: the genre, and then we're gonna do a little recap
- 0:52Speaker 1: of the Evil Dead series. But I don't even know
- 0:55Speaker 1: anything about you, Nessa, because this is my first time
- 0:59Speaker 1: meeting you. And you know what, what what is your story?
- 1:04Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:05Speaker 1: Get like a quick, like three minute synopsis of you.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. So again, my name is Ernessa, but
- 1:13Speaker 2: you know you guys can call me Nasa. How I'm
- 1:16Speaker 2: even here to begin with is because I do the
- 1:19Speaker 2: album reviews on our turntables section of the Recess Bell.
- 1:25Speaker 2: I started doing that by actually reconnecting with our greatest
- 1:30Speaker 2: man ever, Josh the Leader. The Leader the Man, so
- 1:37Speaker 2: I had went to high school with him. We did
- 1:39Speaker 2: some reconnecting and I ended up doing some album reviews
- 1:43Speaker 2: for the website. There'll definitely be a new one coming
- 1:46Speaker 2: up soon on Tyler the Creator's album Chromacopeia. Uh. And
- 1:50Speaker 2: I definitely have a lot of stuff to talk about
- 1:53Speaker 2: like with that, especially because I find an annoy but
- 1:56Speaker 2: nonetheless in terms of just knowing at me, the reason
- 2:00Speaker 2: why I'm even honest episode is because I'm a huge,
- 2:03Speaker 2: huge horror fan. So that's definitely something that you guys
- 2:06Speaker 2: should should know about me, big horror fan for a
- 2:10Speaker 2: long time, like since I was young. So there's that
- 2:15Speaker 2: just in general, like about me and enjoying like I
- 2:19Speaker 2: enjoy to go out with like friends, family.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Like long walks on the beach.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Yeah, even that, there's nothing about like just being next
- 2:27Speaker 2: to the water, just seeing the feeling the air just
- 2:30Speaker 2: just hit your face, the sand in like every possible place.
- 2:34Speaker 1: It's the best. And and you know, we're recording on
- 2:37Speaker 1: Long Island and we have had this random surge of
- 2:42Speaker 1: warm weather in the last like two weeks.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it's actually been throwing me off. I kind of
- 2:46Speaker 2: hate it. I always was like a transition.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Halloween was like eighty degrees. Yeah, it's insane. Yeah. So
- 2:52Speaker 1: I've been going to Jones Beach as much as possible.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I lived there there. Okay, that's my second home is
- 2:59Speaker 1: Jones Beach. But you mentioned music that's like your big thing.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah for sure, So let's let's.
- 3:04Speaker 1: You know, we like to have a d d on
- 3:06Speaker 1: on the show, and we love it here, so we're
- 3:09Speaker 1: just gonna like deviate from from Eventually we'll get to
- 3:12Speaker 1: the horror section. Yeah. Top musicians of all time? Oh man,
- 3:18Speaker 1: just like you know a few that come to mind.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I think maybe my favorite like rappers or like maybe
- 3:24Speaker 2: like top three, probably like nas Kanye West. Uh, it's
- 3:30Speaker 2: not really like a favorite. Uh. Kanye West is my
- 3:33Speaker 2: favorite for sure. But the next person I'm about to
- 3:34Speaker 2: say it was jay Z. I don't think he's like
- 3:36Speaker 2: really a favorite of mine, but I do think like
- 3:38Speaker 2: what he did for the game of rap is very significant,
- 3:42Speaker 2: so I will mention him as like probably like the
- 3:44Speaker 2: top three is.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Rap, that's your genre that you focus on.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I think rap is like rap is definitely like one
- 3:52Speaker 2: of my favorite genres. I listened to a lot of
- 3:54Speaker 2: different genres. Actually, I'm very into you know, like rap,
- 3:59Speaker 2: hip hop, R and b afrobeats like even I'm actually
- 4:04Speaker 2: you know, like I'm I come from a Caribbean background.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I'm Haitian, so I'm definitely into Haitian music like my culture. Also,
- 4:12Speaker 2: just I'm a big fan of like dance, hall of
- 4:14Speaker 2: Reggae and like things like that too. So definitely listen
- 4:16Speaker 2: to a lot of different music. You know, I got
- 4:18Speaker 2: some Emao music going on. You know, I gotta cry sometimes. Yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 2: you know we all night will be the night over again,
- 4:28Speaker 2: over again.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Listen to this. I'm gonna blow your mind. My name
- 4:33Speaker 1: is Justin. Then I'm here to say we're gonna talk
- 4:35Speaker 1: horror on film real today.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Uh yeah, yeah that's Do you like those ad libs?
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah? Like the flavor flavor of exactly.
- 4:48Speaker 2: That's what I have to do.
- 4:49Speaker 1: And music is so important when it comes to movies.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Actually, oh for sure. The soundtracks just make the movie
- 4:55Speaker 2: feel more like I don't even know, like you feel
- 4:57Speaker 2: more involved for some reason. It just makes it. It
- 5:00Speaker 2: makes a difference for sure.
- 5:01Speaker 1: If you take a movie like Jaws and you don't
- 5:04Speaker 1: have the iconic music to go along with it, you're
- 5:07Speaker 1: not gonna be in terror. You're not gonna feel that suspense.
- 5:11Speaker 1: And then there's actual like soundtrack music when they when they,
- 5:14Speaker 1: you know, like Gardens of the Galaxy in recent years
- 5:17Speaker 1: has done a great job of getting these seventies you know,
- 5:20Speaker 1: pop hits and implementing it into the story. Music can
- 5:24Speaker 1: change the way a movie is.
- 5:27Speaker 2: It could change the entire scene and the vibe of it.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I get goose bumps from from certain musical cues. Now
- 5:35Speaker 1: I love the movie feel to dreams, and if it
- 5:37Speaker 1: doesn't have James Horner's score behind it, I'm not gonna
- 5:41Speaker 1: feel that emotion. I'm not gonna get those goosebumps. Hey Dad,
- 5:49Speaker 1: you're gonna have catch. I'd like that. That's the That's
- 6:01Speaker 1: the beauty of music. So why don't we? When don't we? Segue?
- 6:04Speaker 1: Now back to the the movie talk? So how did
- 6:09Speaker 1: you initially get into horror? I'll briefly tell my quick
- 6:13Speaker 1: story as to like the the origins of horror, and
- 6:16Speaker 1: I think this is probably for a lot of kids.
- 6:19Speaker 1: They probably were introduced to it from cartoons, whether it's
- 6:24Speaker 1: something like Scooby Doo, whether it's something like a Simpson's
- 6:28Speaker 1: Treehouse of Horror episode. A lot of Nickelodeon shows had
- 6:32Speaker 1: horror based even like parodies of things like Frankenstein and Dracula,
- 6:37Speaker 1: and you really didn't watch those movies per se, but
- 6:40Speaker 1: you knew the characters because of cartoons. So for me,
- 6:45Speaker 1: I think shows like there was a Ghostbuster's cartoon, there
- 6:48Speaker 1: was a Beagle Juice cartoon, stuff like that was sort
- 6:51Speaker 1: of the the building blocks into my eventual watching the
- 6:55Speaker 1: actual movies that these properties are based on. But I
- 6:57Speaker 1: think cartoons from me, and I think a lot of
- 7:01Speaker 1: people were that first. You know, foray into into horror.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Line that is such a beautiful like story of just
- 7:20Speaker 2: how horror basically like starts, especially with like with children,
- 7:24Speaker 2: and it always starts in what you're watching, right. So
- 7:28Speaker 2: with that being said, my my like how I got
- 7:32Speaker 2: into horror definitely wasn't I don't think it was the
- 7:35Speaker 2: best way because I went straight into it. Oh, I
- 7:38Speaker 2: went straight into it. My mom and I watched horror
- 7:41Speaker 2: stuff like growing up, right, so we was watching stuff
- 7:45Speaker 2: like paranormal activity. I'm like seven, like watching this, I'm
- 7:49Speaker 2: watching paranormal activity movies. I'm watching like like different like
- 7:53Speaker 2: killer type of series. Like there's a show called Killer
- 7:56Speaker 2: Kids and it's literally just like little documentaries about like
- 7:59Speaker 2: kids that like Guilder Parents or like something crazy or
- 8:02Speaker 2: I'm watching like I survived, I watching shows like that
- 8:06Speaker 2: and just like anything that was on like those type
- 8:09Speaker 2: of networks. I mean, my mom was always watching, Like
- 8:12Speaker 2: I remember watching the old school like horror movies like
- 8:14Speaker 2: We Got Chucky, you know, Scream, Halloween, like all the
- 8:18Speaker 2: good stuff, the good classics, just a lot of movies
- 8:21Speaker 2: that came from the nineties and stuff like that. So
- 8:24Speaker 2: growing up, even when I played, because I was playing
- 8:27Speaker 2: video games too, So I was playing like scary shit
- 8:31Speaker 2: in the video games too. Yeah yeah, yeah, Like I
- 8:35Speaker 2: literally don't know anyone else that was playing like Resident
- 8:37Speaker 2: Evil at seven, so I was doing that.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I didn't even think about video games, but
- 8:44Speaker 1: they definitely are frightening, especially if you're playing them by
- 8:47Speaker 1: yourself in the dark at like oh u im playing
- 8:49Speaker 1: something like Doom as a kid, for me is definitely
- 8:53Speaker 1: something that sparked a lot of fear in my mind
- 8:57Speaker 1: and imagination. For sure. Doom for the sixty four Big Jaguar,
- 9:08Speaker 1: the best dome ever. Let's talk about some of those
- 9:13Speaker 1: classics you mentioned. You're like, oh, those old movies from
- 9:16Speaker 1: the nineties. I'm just the old man, I suppose, because
- 9:19Speaker 1: to me those are like my childhood classics. But I
- 9:21Speaker 1: guess you know, you're a bit younger than me. So
- 9:25Speaker 1: the nineties for me was a pivotal time for horror
- 9:28Speaker 1: movies because, for sure, the eighties was very schlocky, meaning
- 9:32Speaker 1: it was a lot of goofy stuff, a lot of sequels.
- 9:36Speaker 1: You know, there was like five Friday the Thirteenth and
- 9:39Speaker 1: a bunch of Nightmare on Elm Streets, and they really
- 9:41Speaker 1: became cheesy and corny. And in the early nineties in particular,
- 9:45Speaker 1: there was a lot of goofy stuff happening in the
- 9:48Speaker 1: horror landscape. Now every now and then you'd get a
- 9:50Speaker 1: Silence of the Lambs that would, you know, be an
- 9:52Speaker 1: Oscar caliber type of movie. But for the most part,
- 9:55Speaker 1: when you thought of nineties horror, it was actually a
- 9:57Speaker 1: lot of crappy stuff, stuff like the Leprechaun series, which
- 10:00Speaker 1: you know, is fun, goofy stuff, but it's not good
- 10:03Speaker 1: per se. But then in the mid nineties, the movie
- 10:06Speaker 1: Scream came out, and that sort of rejuvenated the horror
- 10:10Speaker 1: you know world, because that that sort of poked fun
- 10:14Speaker 1: at the genre itself. It was very breaking the fourth
- 10:18Speaker 1: wall sort of thing and pointing out all the flaws
- 10:21Speaker 1: and cliches with horror movies. And that's Wes Craven, who
- 10:25Speaker 1: also directed Nightmare on Elm Street. He's, you know, a
- 10:28Speaker 1: genius when it came to horror properties. But Scream is
- 10:31Speaker 1: definitely one that jumps to mind of like changing the game.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Because every time there's something that is popular, you're always
- 10:39Speaker 1: gonna have imitators, whether it's in music or television and
- 10:43Speaker 1: movies in particular. But there were so many cheap imitators
- 10:46Speaker 1: from Scream, stuff like I Know what you did last summer.
- 10:49Speaker 1: A lot of a lot of things that weren't up
- 10:51Speaker 1: to that caliber, but Scream, just to go back to
- 10:55Speaker 1: even Halloween, just because Halloween just passed, that was one
- 10:58Speaker 1: of those costumes. The ghost Face Killer is like such
- 11:03Speaker 1: an iconic costume, even so much so that in twenty
- 11:08Speaker 1: twenty four I opened my door for trick or treaters
- 11:12Speaker 1: and there was a ten year old boy with the
- 11:15Speaker 1: ghost Face mask and It actually made me so happy
- 11:19Speaker 1: because I remember being ten years old and seeing those
- 11:22Speaker 1: mess there and it stood the test of time. That's
- 11:24Speaker 1: a property that's almost thirty years old at this point,
- 11:26Speaker 1: and they're making another one. There's gonna be another Scream
- 11:29Speaker 1: coming out in a few weeks. So we got our
- 11:32Speaker 1: introduction of horror. We got a you know, an introduction
- 11:37Speaker 1: of nessa as well. So let's get into our favorite
- 11:40Speaker 1: horror icons of all time. And I'm not gonna put
- 11:43Speaker 1: ghost Face on there just because he changes. It's not
- 11:48Speaker 1: one ghost face, you know, it's.
- 11:50Speaker 2: A killer, multiple different ghosts exactly. If I'm not mistaken.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Scream six was the most recent one. Yes, yeah, So
- 11:57Speaker 2: with that most recent one, it's like there's like seventeen
- 11:59Speaker 2: go yeah in there. So it's like it's it's crazy,
- 12:03Speaker 2: like how it's I feel like it's becoming more jocular now. Actually,
- 12:07Speaker 2: I feel like it's becoming a little bit more funny.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, it's definitely a tongue in cheek at times.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:12Speaker 1: If I'm going with my my favorite horror icons of
- 12:16Speaker 1: all time, and I'm gonna put a wild card in there,
- 12:19Speaker 1: one that I think people might not actually think of
- 12:22Speaker 1: as a horror icon. So I'm gonna start off with
- 12:25Speaker 1: with Freddy Krueger.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Welcome to.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Freddy Krueger. To me, if I'm picking eighties icons, I
- 12:34Speaker 1: gotta go with Freddy because he was that first icon
- 12:38Speaker 1: to really bring comedy to the genre because it is
- 12:42Speaker 1: it is funny. I think the I think comedy and
- 12:45Speaker 1: horror go hand in hand because when you get scared
- 12:47Speaker 1: a lot of times you laugh right after it. Even
- 12:50Speaker 1: if you're going like a haunted house, you're gonna have
- 12:53Speaker 1: that scream and then that sort of laughter. So to
- 12:55Speaker 1: have Freddy Krueger do that in the movies, I love it,
- 12:59Speaker 1: and it's so creative. His kills are creative. He is
- 13:03Speaker 1: frightening when he needs to be. But to me, you know,
- 13:06Speaker 1: I'd rather have a character like Freddy Krueger where you
- 13:09Speaker 1: get to, you know, hear him talk because a lot
- 13:12Speaker 1: of these other killers they're they're silent yeaeople like Jason
- 13:15Speaker 1: Michael Myers. They're not They're not talking shit per se.
- 13:21Speaker 1: And that's what I love about Freddy Krueger. But if
- 13:23Speaker 1: I am gonna pick one of the silent killers, and
- 13:26Speaker 1: there's a few, there's leather Face, there's Michael Myers, but
- 13:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with Freddy's counterpart, Jason Vorhees. Jason just
- 13:33Speaker 1: a really cool design. Yeah, and I mean the Hockey Mass,
- 13:36Speaker 1: the Giant Body. A lot of his movies are terrible,
- 13:40Speaker 1: I know.
- 13:41Speaker 2: The movie like like, they're terrible, but but they're fun.
- 13:47Speaker 1: They're good movies to have on in the background if
- 13:50Speaker 1: you're at like a Halloween party, having a few beers
- 13:53Speaker 1: and then you just look up every now and then
- 13:55Speaker 1: and watch Jason slice someone's head off. So that's I
- 13:59Speaker 1: love just that aspect of horror movies is the fact
- 14:04Speaker 1: that you don't have to take it so seriously. I
- 14:07Speaker 1: mean there are ones that you know, things like The
- 14:09Speaker 1: Exorcists that you know takes it the genre seriously, but
- 14:14Speaker 1: something like like you know, the Nightmare on elm Street movies,
- 14:17Speaker 1: the Friday the Thirteenth movies, they're more goofy, funny, friendly
- 14:20Speaker 1: sort of things. Here's my wild card though. This is
- 14:23Speaker 1: one I don't think a lot of people think of
- 14:25Speaker 1: it as a horror film, but to me, especially being
- 14:28Speaker 1: a four year old kid in theaters watching this, it
- 14:31Speaker 1: definitely scarred me. And that would be the dinosaurs from
- 14:34Speaker 1: Jurassic Park Jurassic Park. That's actually they scared the hell
- 14:41Speaker 1: out of me so much so to this day that
- 14:43Speaker 1: I still have recurring nightmares of dinosaurs. But I love it.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I love it. It's like I'm afraid of it, but
- 14:59Speaker 1: I can't help but watch it. And as a kid,
- 15:02Speaker 1: that movie, you know, was a juggernaut. It was the
- 15:05Speaker 1: highest grossing movie of all time at the time of
- 15:07Speaker 1: its release, and I had all the toys. I would
- 15:11Speaker 1: rewatch it on VHS all the time. But those scenes
- 15:14Speaker 1: of the t Rex attacking the little kids, the Veloci,
- 15:18Speaker 1: raptors in the kitchen attacking the little kids. And I
- 15:22Speaker 1: mentioned little kids because you know, I always they are
- 15:26Speaker 1: little kids in those scenes, and I think that's what
- 15:27Speaker 1: made it so frightening, because I was a little kid
- 15:29Speaker 1: at the time, and you put yourself in those kids' shoes.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Right in majority of horror movies, it's you know, like
- 15:35Speaker 1: an eighteen year old blonde chick. So it's like, how
- 15:38Speaker 1: does a little kid like relate to this? But if
- 15:40Speaker 1: the fact that Jurassic Park had kids in it, it
- 15:44Speaker 1: felt more threatening, especially when you're young, young in watching it.
- 15:48Speaker 1: So those would be my three the dinosaurs. Freddy Krueger
- 15:52Speaker 1: and Jason Vorhiz, do you have a horror icon that
- 15:55Speaker 1: stands out for you?
- 15:56Speaker 2: Yeah? I do have some. I know for sure. I
- 16:00Speaker 2: have to actually take this little TANGI real quick and
- 16:03Speaker 2: just mention that if I had the powers of SpongeBob
- 16:07Speaker 2: from that episode when he was just going into other
- 16:10Speaker 2: people's dreams, I would I would love to jump into
- 16:13Speaker 2: your dream just one time, just to see what these
- 16:16Speaker 2: dinosaurs are.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Oh my god, to.
- 16:19Speaker 2: See what's going on and like just quickly just tap
- 16:21Speaker 2: out and be like just being there for like five
- 16:23Speaker 2: minutes and then just be like, all right, this actually
- 16:25Speaker 2: is like freaking terrifying. I do have to get out
- 16:28Speaker 2: of here. But in terms of my favorite horror icons,
- 16:32Speaker 2: I mean, we definitely already spoke about it a little bit.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Like I actually was a big fan of Michael Myers.
- 16:40Speaker 2: I think as of recently, the more recent Halloween movies
- 16:43Speaker 2: have been just getting definitely like really ridiculous.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like getting bad now, and he's getting bad.
- 16:50Speaker 1: And he's supposed to be like eighty years old and
- 16:52Speaker 1: he's like fighting five hundred people and yeah he's.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Built like he's like thirty five and like No, it's
- 16:59Speaker 2: like it's it's so crazy. And even with how the
- 17:02Speaker 2: the town or like how do people react, Like I
- 17:05Speaker 2: feel like I don't know, like I know what horror
- 17:08Speaker 2: movies like, especially when it's about like someone being like
- 17:11Speaker 2: chased down, like they have to they kind of have
- 17:13Speaker 2: to do stupid shit, like they have to kind of
- 17:15Speaker 2: like fall or they have to like be like, oh
- 17:17Speaker 2: my gosh, I he's coming, like be slow, not really
- 17:20Speaker 2: like thinking. I know they're trying to imitate like what
- 17:22Speaker 2: it's like to be in like a fight or flight
- 17:24Speaker 2: type of feeling or like feel like that fear, but
- 17:27Speaker 2: oh my gosh, like they the the way the people
- 17:30Speaker 2: are acting in the Michael when Michael Myers is around,
- 17:33Speaker 2: or just in general in the more recent Halloween movies,
- 17:36Speaker 2: it's just been absolutely just horrific. Like I'm just like, bro,
- 17:40Speaker 2: like this is worse than like knowing that there's someone
- 17:43Speaker 2: behind the door and you're gonna go to that door
- 17:45Speaker 2: anyway and try to open it and be like, oh man,
- 17:47Speaker 2: we have to investigate like some Scooby do shit. Yeah.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Yeah, It's just.
- 17:50Speaker 2: I don't know, like they're just going like they're they're
- 17:53Speaker 2: going so dumb right now, but I still do love
- 17:56Speaker 2: Michael Myers and just the idea of it, and like
- 17:58Speaker 2: their earlier movies. I would say Halloween started being bad
- 18:03Speaker 2: after the twenty eighteen one. After twenty eighteen one, I
- 18:07Speaker 2: was like, all right, not like eighteen. That one was no,
- 18:10Speaker 2: I love it.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I like that one.
- 18:12Speaker 2: I love that one. I'm saying like, after that, yeah, yeah,
- 18:15Speaker 2: After the twenty eighteen it was just well, I was
- 18:18Speaker 2: I was so over it.
- 18:19Speaker 1: They made him because when Michael Meyers started out in
- 18:22Speaker 1: the first movie from nineteen seventy eight, he was realistic.
- 18:25Speaker 1: He was like, Okay, this is a guy. There's no
- 18:28Speaker 1: real supernatural elements to it. Now he gets shot at
- 18:31Speaker 1: the end of the movie a few times, but and
- 18:33Speaker 1: he gets up and you don't know where he is,
- 18:35Speaker 1: but he could be wearing a bulletproof vest. But they've
- 18:38Speaker 1: made him the supernatural being, which I think takes away
- 18:42Speaker 1: from the the fear because I hate to break it
- 18:46Speaker 1: to you, guys, that stuff isn't real. But there are
- 18:49Speaker 1: real murderers. So that's why that original Halloween was so good,
- 18:53Speaker 1: because it was like, there are people that do this,
- 18:55Speaker 1: There are people that just go nuts for the sake
- 18:57Speaker 1: of going nuts And there was no motivation for Michael
- 19:00Speaker 1: Ires in that original movie. He just he just killed
- 19:02Speaker 1: his sister as a kid and then got you know,
- 19:05Speaker 1: institutionalized and escaped and just killed more people for years
- 19:09Speaker 1: and years and years. But that that mask used to
- 19:12Speaker 1: scare the crap out of me. I remember renting a
- 19:15Speaker 1: movie at a very young age and they had a
- 19:16Speaker 1: preview for Halloween h two O, which was I think
- 19:20Speaker 1: the sixth movie in the series. Yeah, and there was
- 19:23Speaker 1: a trailer for it and it had Laurie, you know,
- 19:26Speaker 1: played by Jamie Lee Curtis meeting Michael Myers again and
- 19:29Speaker 1: they're like.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Face to face.
- 19:31Speaker 1: It was like a door in between it. And that
- 19:34Speaker 1: scared the crap out of me.
- 19:35Speaker 2: I don't know if I will say the design of
- 19:37Speaker 2: Michael Myers, I just I mean.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Just the white blank expression super super frightening, and it's
- 19:45Speaker 1: based off of people probably might know this if they're
- 19:48Speaker 1: horror buffs. Uh, the actor William Shatner from Star Trek.
- 19:53Speaker 1: That was that was a Star Trek William Shatner, you
- 19:56Speaker 1: know mask.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I didn't even know.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Yeah. Then they just you know, changed a few things
- 20:02Speaker 1: here and spray painted it. And that was the iconic
- 20:05Speaker 1: Michael Myers mess.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Oh shit, I didn't even know that. Yeah, yeah, just
- 20:08Speaker 2: like random facts, like random fun facts like I love that.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Now you got any other icons?
- 20:15Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, so definitely him. I actually really liked
- 20:19Speaker 2: Hell Raiser. I have such sights to show you. I know,
- 20:27Speaker 2: that's an old, old movie. Like it's not like that
- 20:30Speaker 2: that old you know, it's just it's from the eighties.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Eighties.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Yeah, late eighties.
- 20:33Speaker 1: First two are really good.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Yeah, the hell Raiser, like just the creepiness of it all.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Like I feel like it was like an acid trip
- 20:40Speaker 2: like watching them, Like I know, I didn't. I actually
- 20:43Speaker 2: didn't watch them like when I was young. I actually
- 20:45Speaker 2: watched them as an adult, but it was like more
- 20:47Speaker 2: of like my early twenties that I actually like seen
- 20:49Speaker 2: them and everything, and it kind of just made me
- 20:52Speaker 2: realize especially like from the eighties, like how much like
- 20:55Speaker 2: there's definitely like the whole like all right, like we
- 20:57Speaker 2: got our big killers, our big murderers and every thing,
- 21:00Speaker 2: but looking at stuff like Hell Raiser and eventually when
- 21:06Speaker 2: we get into the Evil Dead series, like how they
- 21:08Speaker 2: had such a focus on gore and all this blood
- 21:12Speaker 2: and like just being gross and like using that as
- 21:14Speaker 2: like a tactic of horror.
- 21:15Speaker 1: And it's all practical effects. You know, this is before CGI,
- 21:19Speaker 1: so it's miniatures, it's prosthetic makeup. It's yeah, it's it's there.
- 21:24Speaker 1: And I think that that stands the test of time,
- 21:27Speaker 1: especially if you watch early CGI, that stuff ages terribly.
- 21:31Speaker 1: It looks like place, it looks crazy graphics. But those
- 21:35Speaker 1: effects from you know, the hell Raiser series, they look
- 21:38Speaker 1: really good almost forty years later. Yeah, I love so
- 21:41Speaker 1: the character Penhead, And.
- 21:43Speaker 2: I was about to say Pinhead definitely one of my
- 21:46Speaker 2: my favorites because seeing that, I'm just like.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Whoa, And it scared the crap out of me. And
- 21:50Speaker 1: I didn't watch the movies either until much later on,
- 21:54Speaker 1: but you would see the trailers and they would they
- 21:57Speaker 1: would legitimately keep me up at night. It's something about
- 22:01Speaker 1: a lot of these characters have like pale white faces.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Yeah, ghostly Yeah, and you could tell like you're just
- 22:07Speaker 2: not sure if this is like an actual person or not.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Like that movie is sick and twisted. It's got some
- 22:13Speaker 1: like sexuality stuff to it.
- 22:15Speaker 2: It's yeah, like it's really raw. Like that was the
- 22:18Speaker 2: I can imagine like people in their their teams made
- 22:21Speaker 2: their like eighteen plus or whatever, and they like invite
- 22:24Speaker 2: in fighting their girlfriend over It's like, yeah, we're gonna
- 22:26Speaker 2: watch it. We're gonna watch Hell Razor. You know, set
- 22:28Speaker 2: the mood.
- 22:29Speaker 1: And they made a few years ago and it had
- 22:32Speaker 1: like a female pin Head and.
- 22:34Speaker 2: It was actually I didn't even know that.
- 22:35Speaker 1: It wasn't bad. It wasn't I think it was on Hulu.
- 22:39Speaker 1: It was fine. I think there was a little too
- 22:41Speaker 1: much cgi involved with it, Okay, but it was actually
- 22:45Speaker 1: a decent you know, sort of remake reboot of an
- 22:49Speaker 1: existing property. But yeah, Pinhead and that whole Hell Health
- 22:52Speaker 1: Razor series doesn't really get talked about, but really good,
- 22:56Speaker 1: good choice any any modern That's the issue with a
- 22:59Speaker 1: lot of modern horror movies. I'm not saying they're all awful,
- 23:04Speaker 1: but there's no icons.
- 23:06Speaker 2: You know, there's no one that's like consistent and they're
- 23:08Speaker 2: like making movies of it.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Just Jigsaw is the only one I can think of,
- 23:12Speaker 1: because you have your contras in your insidious and sinister
- 23:15Speaker 1: ghost movies, but there's no like evil entity that they're
- 23:19Speaker 1: making action figures of that you know, it's super iconic.
- 23:22Speaker 1: But I think Jigsaw and in modern times now it's
- 23:27Speaker 1: sort of got a big bump in the last couple
- 23:29Speaker 1: of years the Terrifier series. And there's the character of
- 23:31Speaker 1: Art the Clown, which is I guess one of the
- 23:35Speaker 1: modern icons. Did you see Terrifier three?
- 23:38Speaker 2: I did?
- 23:38Speaker 1: Did? Yeah? I mentioned that. What did you think of it?
- 23:41Speaker 2: Oh my god? I first off, I felt I felt
- 23:44Speaker 2: bad because I brought my friend to see with me
- 23:48Speaker 2: and he actually did not know what Terrifier was like
- 23:51Speaker 2: in general. So to introduce someone into the Terrifier series
- 23:55Speaker 2: by letting them watch Terrifier three in theaters like just raw,
- 24:00Speaker 2: I was like, I remember just looking to the right
- 24:02Speaker 2: and looking at him, and I'm like, I'm not sure
- 24:04Speaker 2: if he's okay, but I think he will be maybe.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Did you were traumatized? Did you warn him? At least
- 24:09Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 24:10Speaker 2: I didn't give him a good warning, like at all.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Like I was like, Hey, you want to see this
- 24:13Speaker 2: movie with me? You know, it's whatever, clown kills people, whatever.
- 24:18Speaker 2: And then I was sitting there and I was like,
- 24:19Speaker 2: oh wow, oh yeah, this is this is a lot.
- 24:22Speaker 2: And I'm looking to the right and I'm like, ah,
- 24:24Speaker 2: I traumatized him. Yes, Late Tuesday.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Night, guys getting a chainsaw is ass. Yeah, like hey
- 24:31Speaker 1: you like this?
- 24:31Speaker 2: Hey yeah, I'm like, hey, you need to use a
- 24:33Speaker 2: bathroom anything like can you pass me to popcord? Like
- 24:37Speaker 2: but uh no, I actually was a big fan of it.
- 24:39Speaker 2: I know. It was like absolutely like horrific in terms
- 24:41Speaker 2: of all the graphics scenes, I will say, big spoiler alert,
- 24:46Speaker 2: My favorite scene from that has to be the when
- 24:50Speaker 2: they're in the mall and he's pretending to be Santa
- 24:52Speaker 2: and he gives out the gifts, because I thought that
- 24:55Speaker 2: was I actually okay, I know, like this is just
- 24:58Speaker 2: saying like, how like fucked up my humor is? But
- 25:01Speaker 2: the way that I was so weak. I was laughing
- 25:04Speaker 2: so hard at that scene because I just couldn't believe
- 25:07Speaker 2: that that was something that they wrote in the studio.
- 25:09Speaker 2: I was like, all right, we're gonna we're gonna make
- 25:11Speaker 2: sure that that happened. Yeah, and it was so unexpected.
- 25:14Speaker 2: I had no idea what was going to happen. But
- 25:16Speaker 2: the fact that that happened in terms of the bomb
- 25:18Speaker 2: going off and everything, I was like, this is crazy.
- 25:20Speaker 1: And you're not really sure in that series, like what's
- 25:22Speaker 1: happening is for real? Because the girl's sort of hallucination.
- 25:25Speaker 1: So it's like, is this even happening? But yeah, they
- 25:28Speaker 1: went there and they those movies are balgy. It's an
- 25:31Speaker 1: NC seventeen movie, so it's not rated essentially, and it's
- 25:35Speaker 1: making a ton of money. And I love it. I
- 25:38Speaker 1: like the series. I'm not like in love with it,
- 25:40Speaker 1: but I love the fact that a movie that doesn't
- 25:43Speaker 1: have Universal or Disney or all these, doesn't have a
- 25:47Speaker 1: high production budget, doesn't have a studio backing it, and
- 25:50Speaker 1: it's doing good.
- 25:52Speaker 2: It's doing well.
- 25:53Speaker 1: It's doing really well, especially on a two million dollar budget.
- 25:56Speaker 1: It's making a crap ton of money and beating movies
- 25:59Speaker 1: with two hundred million dollar budgets like Joker. So yeah,
- 26:03Speaker 1: we need more movies like this. And the series is continuing,
- 26:08Speaker 1: you know. They obviously set up a fourth movie.
- 26:10Speaker 2: And oh yeah, how it ended.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Yeah, they might do a few more of these. You know.
- 26:14Speaker 1: I'm all for it. I'm all for originality, even though
- 26:18Speaker 1: it's sequels, but it's a new character. It's something. It's
- 26:21Speaker 1: not a remake of Jason and Halloween, and it's new. Yeah,
- 26:24Speaker 1: and eventually, you know, all those characters, though I mentioned
- 26:27Speaker 1: they're going to reboot Jason they're going to reboot Michael
- 26:31Speaker 1: Myers because Hollywood is just a nep that making anything new. Yeah,
- 26:38Speaker 1: they are void of creativity. As far as other modern
- 26:44Speaker 1: icons go, I really can't think of any. But there
- 26:46Speaker 1: is a lot of great modern horror movies out there,
- 26:49Speaker 1: Oh yeah, for sure, movies like Black Phone. I don't
- 26:52Speaker 1: know if you saw that way. I thought that was
- 26:54Speaker 1: a really good one.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Good yeah, And I think if I'm not mistaken, it
- 26:58Speaker 2: was rated PG thirteen.
- 27:00Speaker 1: It might have been are. But there's but there's there's
- 27:04Speaker 1: like a new style of horror movie that to me,
- 27:08Speaker 1: I'm actually sort of sick of. And that is and
- 27:12Speaker 1: I like the original movies. I like the Conjuring series,
- 27:15Speaker 1: but that whole James wand who like produces and directs
- 27:19Speaker 1: those movies, that whole universe, I think they all blend together.
- 27:23Speaker 1: They all feel the same, right, Nothing stands out all
- 27:26Speaker 1: your Annabelles and Conjurings, And to me, I think they're
- 27:30Speaker 1: fine movies, but I'm sick of it. I want more creativity.
- 27:34Speaker 1: I do horror.
- 27:36Speaker 2: I feel like at this point with where they're at,
- 27:39Speaker 2: especially in the Conjuring universe, or like everything with how
- 27:41Speaker 2: those movies are related to each other. I feel like
- 27:44Speaker 2: they need to stop with like all of them, because
- 27:46Speaker 2: I feel like just just why after a certain point.
- 27:50Speaker 2: I think after like a third or fourth movie, like
- 27:52Speaker 2: for example, like the Insidious like series, like I think
- 27:54Speaker 2: one and two fine beautiful work, but I think after
- 27:58Speaker 2: like in Citious too, like doing like the the third chapter,
- 28:02Speaker 2: the fourth key and all this other stuff.
- 28:04Speaker 1: What are they up? Did they just have the fourth one? Yeah?
- 28:07Speaker 1: That was that was.
- 28:09Speaker 2: God. No, I didn't even see the fourth one because
- 28:11Speaker 2: I was so disappointed in the third one for that.
- 28:13Speaker 2: I didn't even see the fourth one.
- 28:15Speaker 1: And the like I said, they all blend together. Someone
- 28:17Speaker 1: was to say, what's the difference between conjuring and conjuring two?
- 28:21Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah, I couldn't tell you because they
- 28:23Speaker 1: all and they all look the same, like they all.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Have this yeah set a shot the same.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. So let's get more terrifiers out there and
- 28:33Speaker 1: less conjuring type movies. Let's move to scariest scenes of
- 28:38Speaker 1: all time in movie history. And I mentioned those Jurassic
- 28:41Speaker 1: Park movies, but that really stands out to me, this
- 28:44Speaker 1: giant force and and the crazy thing is, you know,
- 28:47Speaker 1: based on reality in a sense that you know, these
- 28:50Speaker 1: creatures existed. Yeah, obviously not with human beings, but thank god,
- 28:54Speaker 1: just to think that there is this giant, you know,
- 28:58Speaker 1: multiple ton behemoth that was walking this planet and just
- 29:03Speaker 1: tearing ship up is just pretty scary. And uh, you know,
- 29:07Speaker 1: as a kid, you don't know what what's reality and
- 29:10Speaker 1: what's what's fiction, so you might think, like I in
- 29:14Speaker 1: my mind, I thought, Okay, dinosaurs might still be out there,
- 29:19Speaker 1: or they could bring back dinosaurs. And you know, scientists
- 29:22Speaker 1: have been working to bring back extinct animals for years,
- 29:26Speaker 1: you know, yeah, sure, the wooly mammott, I know, so
- 29:29Speaker 1: so eventually I think we might get you know, dinosaurs.
- 29:34Speaker 1: But you know, what's what's so lame because now they're like, oh,
- 29:37Speaker 1: dinosaurs have feathers. That's not scary. If you put a
- 29:41Speaker 1: t rex in that same scene, but it just looks
- 29:43Speaker 1: like a chicken, like, it's not terrifying. Yeah, if they
- 29:47Speaker 1: are to bring back dinosaurs, please make them look like
- 29:50Speaker 1: movie Dina.
- 29:51Speaker 2: It makes them look like dinosaurs like the ones in
- 29:53Speaker 2: the books. And yeah, yeah, make them look a little horrifying.
- 29:56Speaker 1: But that's the scene that like, especially the t rex,
- 29:59Speaker 1: the initial t rex scene, because it's in the rain.
- 30:02Speaker 1: They're the kids by themselves in the car, and it's
- 30:04Speaker 1: a slow reveal, you know. You see, first of all,
- 30:09Speaker 1: you see this goat that's tied up and the t
- 30:12Speaker 1: Rex is supposed to eat it, and then the goat's gone,
- 30:15Speaker 1: and then it just falls on top of the car
- 30:18Speaker 1: and then you hear it. Actually, the first thing you
- 30:21Speaker 1: do is you hear you hear the thud of the
- 30:24Speaker 1: t Rex walking, and then you see the ripple of
- 30:27Speaker 1: the water in the cup and you're like, oh my god,
- 30:30Speaker 1: something is approaching. So it's this build up, it's this
- 30:32Speaker 1: anticipation and with a lot of modern movies they not
- 30:37Speaker 1: the sound gross, but they blow their load way too early.
- 30:40Speaker 1: They way too early. I mean with with Jurassic Park,
- 30:44Speaker 1: you don't see the t Rex right away. The velociraptor
- 30:47Speaker 1: attacks a crew in the beginning of the movie, but
- 30:49Speaker 1: you don't see it. You just see the people being
- 30:52Speaker 1: attacked and this one guy sort of gets dragged. They're
- 30:55Speaker 1: not showing the monsters until twenty five minutes thirty minutes
- 30:59Speaker 1: into it, and it builds this anticipation up, and then
- 31:02Speaker 1: when you finally see the t Rex, it's not right away.
- 31:04Speaker 1: You know, you see an arm drag down the fence,
- 31:07Speaker 1: and then it's a slow build up. So that's why
- 31:10Speaker 1: Steven Spielberg is such a master director, because he's not
- 31:13Speaker 1: just he's not just showing anarchy and chaos at the
- 31:16Speaker 1: beginning of the movie and showing everything out there. It's
- 31:18Speaker 1: a slow build That's why I did such a good
- 31:20Speaker 1: job with Jaws. You don't see the shark and Jaws
- 31:22Speaker 1: right away. You just see a girl get taken underwater,
- 31:25Speaker 1: and then you you use your own imagination to create fear.
- 31:29Speaker 1: But those scenes in Jurassic Park definitely, to me, are
- 31:32Speaker 1: right up there with some of the scariest scenes. The
- 31:34Speaker 1: other one is a movie I just watched recently, and
- 31:38Speaker 1: it's it's a polarizing movie and it's The Blair Witch Project.
- 31:42Speaker 1: And it's not.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Because of me that we're here now, hungry cold.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Just apologize to Mike's mom and Josh's mom and my mom.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Tell why good people either love this movie or hate
- 32:13Speaker 1: this movie. But people can't deny that this movie was
- 32:16Speaker 1: a juggernaut. It was one of the cheapest movies to
- 32:18Speaker 1: be made to be released theatrically. I think it only
- 32:21Speaker 1: costs fifty thousand dollars, which is chump change, and it
- 32:26Speaker 1: made three hundred million dollars and that's not including VHS sales.
- 32:30Speaker 1: So when it was released on video format, it made
- 32:33Speaker 1: you know, probably a billion dollars altogether on a fifty
- 32:37Speaker 1: thousand dollars budget. This was the first movie to really
- 32:39Speaker 1: do that viral marketing. You know, it was the infancy
- 32:44Speaker 1: of the Internet as we know it, and it sort
- 32:46Speaker 1: of took advantage of that because it's nineteen ninety nine
- 32:49Speaker 1: when this movie is released, and they made audiences think
- 32:52Speaker 1: that this was a true story. For people that don't know,
- 32:55Speaker 1: the Blair Witch is not a real thing. There's no,
- 32:58Speaker 1: it's not. But it's it's not even like a fate.
- 33:01Speaker 1: I always thought like, okay, the story is probably not real,
- 33:04Speaker 1: but this is probably a fable that goes back years ago. No,
- 33:07Speaker 1: it's all created for this movie, and they they did
- 33:11Speaker 1: such a great job of thinking that this is actual
- 33:14Speaker 1: found footage. This was the first found footage movie, and
- 33:17Speaker 1: movies like you know, Paranormal Activity sort of copied that
- 33:22Speaker 1: format of you know, being a the audience sort of
- 33:27Speaker 1: put into this world through a camera that that you know,
- 33:30Speaker 1: the person in the movie is actually using and it
- 33:33Speaker 1: is frightening. I can understand why people don't like it
- 33:36Speaker 1: because not a lot happens, and it's usually it's more cerebral,
- 33:40Speaker 1: and you're you're using your own imagination, and and and
- 33:45Speaker 1: and you're you're you're you know, I'm having like a
- 33:48Speaker 1: mid stroke right now. So we're gonna edit that.
- 33:51Speaker 2: It's we're gonna edit that. Don't worry about that part.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Actually, I'll probably leave all this in because I don't
- 33:55Speaker 1: give a crap, but I would love that. Actually, yeah,
- 33:58Speaker 1: no screws, I don't give ye but stroke, stroke stroke.
- 34:03Speaker 1: What was they saying, Oh the Blair Witch. Yeah, you're
- 34:06Speaker 1: using your own imagination to you know, fantasize as to
- 34:10Speaker 1: is this actually happening? Is there a witch out there?
- 34:13Speaker 1: And you don't really see anything, but the scene that
- 34:15Speaker 1: stands out is the last five minutes of this movie.
- 34:19Speaker 1: So you know one of the guys is missing. They
- 34:21Speaker 1: hear them off in the distance. There's this building that
- 34:27Speaker 1: is just distraught, and you know, it's a fifty sixty
- 34:30Speaker 1: year old building, and they the two characters go in
- 34:34Speaker 1: the building looking for the character and there's little handprints
- 34:39Speaker 1: of children all throughout this building and then they go
- 34:44Speaker 1: up into the attic, they don't see anything. They go
- 34:46Speaker 1: into the basement, one character's in there, and then you
- 34:49Speaker 1: just see the character of Mike standing in the corner,
- 34:52Speaker 1: and the girl goes into the basement and she gets
- 34:54Speaker 1: attacked at the end and the camera just falls over.
- 34:57Speaker 1: But it's just it's like five to ten ten minutes
- 35:00Speaker 1: scene of just pure chaos and you're not sure exactly
- 35:04Speaker 1: what's happening. But again, you don't see anything. You don't
- 35:07Speaker 1: see any monster. There's no actual witch that you see
- 35:12Speaker 1: throughout this movie. And they were gonna actually show something,
- 35:15Speaker 1: they actually created, you know, a creature effect for the witch,
- 35:19Speaker 1: and they ended up you know, not even using it
- 35:21Speaker 1: because it wasn't needed because you can create your own
- 35:25Speaker 1: theory as to what happened. Did one of the characters
- 35:28Speaker 1: just lose his mind and just you know kill the
- 35:30Speaker 1: other guys because of he was just sort of losing
- 35:33Speaker 1: his mind because they were lost in the woods for days.
- 35:35Speaker 1: So that's the beauty of that movie. But yeah, whenever
- 35:38Speaker 1: that movie ends, because it ends with the girl getting
- 35:41Speaker 1: knocked over, the cameras just sort of on its side.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Once the credits start, I'm freaked out. Like that's something
- 35:48Speaker 1: that to me is super frightening. Less is more in
- 35:52Speaker 1: that movie, and that I think is perfection.
- 35:55Speaker 2: I have to look into that movie. Actually, I actually
- 35:57Speaker 2: don't think I've seen it, but with the way that
- 35:59Speaker 2: you describe, it almost feels like it has that VHS
- 36:02Speaker 2: like type of feel in terms of like how they're
- 36:04Speaker 2: doing that, the camera work in the angles of it. Yeah,
- 36:07Speaker 2: just seeing like the whole like oh, the camera like
- 36:09Speaker 2: fell over and things like that. I like when movies
- 36:11Speaker 2: are are portrayed in that way. I feel like it
- 36:13Speaker 2: feels more like, oh, like I'm watching like a tape
- 36:15Speaker 2: or some.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that's what people thought when they
- 36:18Speaker 1: were watching this movie. They didn't know if this was
- 36:20Speaker 1: at because again this is right in today, a movie
- 36:24Speaker 1: like this wouldn't have the same buzz that it had
- 36:26Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety nine because we didn't know that these
- 36:30Speaker 1: were actors. Now, they'll be an IMDb page, they'll see
- 36:33Speaker 1: this right, person Facebook their Instagram right, there'll be Twitter accounts,
- 36:37Speaker 1: they'll be tiktoks of the actors somewhere. This is nineteen
- 36:41Speaker 1: ninety nine, so a lot of the audience is convinced
- 36:44Speaker 1: that this is actual found footage because they're not showing
- 36:47Speaker 1: anything supernatural. So it's not like, Okay, clearly they're here. Yeah,
- 36:52Speaker 1: so there's no effects that are done. It's all just woodshit.
- 36:55Speaker 1: It's like, oh, there's a pile of sticks, here's rocks
- 36:57Speaker 1: in a weird formation. It's nothing. It's not think it's
- 37:00Speaker 1: weird for but again, and that's why people either love
- 37:03Speaker 1: the movie or hate the movie, because other audience members
- 37:06Speaker 1: are like, okay, can we see something? Can we see
- 37:08Speaker 1: a monster? But to me, I think it's perfection that
- 37:11Speaker 1: there is just oh sticks, these sticks are put in
- 37:15Speaker 1: a cross formations. It's frightening. So I love it. Yeah
- 37:19Speaker 1: you should. I think you should watch it, and I'd
- 37:22Speaker 1: be interested to know what your thoughts are.
- 37:25Speaker 2: No, I will definitely I will make a note of
- 37:27Speaker 2: that for myself. I definitely will look into that.
- 37:29Speaker 1: What are some scenes and moments and horror movies that
- 37:32Speaker 1: stand out for you as some of the scariest.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, for sure. I think. I don't know if
- 37:38Speaker 2: you've ever seen Midsomar. No, I've heard.
- 37:43Speaker 1: I've heard mixed things though. That's the thing to me.
- 37:45Speaker 1: I heard it could be boring at times, long movie too,
- 37:50Speaker 1: it is.
- 37:50Speaker 2: It is a long movie. I when I had first
- 37:52Speaker 2: scene and actually seen it in theaters, so I was
- 37:54Speaker 2: in there like getting numb. Yeah, okay, because it is
- 37:57Speaker 2: a long movie, I will admit that. But I know
- 37:59Speaker 2: from personally, like I'm such an audio person in general,
- 38:02Speaker 2: so this was such a movie that focused on audio
- 38:06Speaker 2: and being such a tactic for the horror here. So
- 38:08Speaker 2: there's just a lot of like creepy sounds or just
- 38:11Speaker 2: like in general, like you would think there's the awkwardness
- 38:14Speaker 2: that comes in that movie with how how they like
- 38:17Speaker 2: prolong like different sounds.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Like.
- 38:19Speaker 2: For example, there's a scene Amidsomar for when the main character,
- 38:24Speaker 2: which is one of the main characters, is this woman.
- 38:27Speaker 2: They're they're in Sweden, right, they had went away, So
- 38:31Speaker 2: this woman and her her boyfriend at the time whatever,
- 38:33Speaker 2: they they went away with the boyfriend's friends. They're at
- 38:36Speaker 2: Sweden and they're in what seems to be like a
- 38:39Speaker 2: very culty like area with like a group of people
- 38:43Speaker 2: or maybe like a town village of people or whatever.
- 38:45Speaker 2: And there's a scene where the main character, this woman,
- 38:48Speaker 2: and like a bunch of the women from the village
- 38:51Speaker 2: are like crying and for whatever reason, that scene kind
- 38:54Speaker 2: of like resonated with me. Not because of like the
- 38:56Speaker 2: crying or like that I'm just a girl, but just
- 38:59Speaker 2: the fact of how long they made that scene. I
- 39:03Speaker 2: thought it was just like creepy in itself, because you
- 39:05Speaker 2: just feel like I feel like with movies are just
- 39:07Speaker 2: when watching things or just knowing or being familiar with
- 39:10Speaker 2: interactions in general, you have an idea of how long
- 39:12Speaker 2: these interactions should be. So the fact that they made
- 39:15Speaker 2: that scene alone like so long, and you could tell
- 39:17Speaker 2: that they put efensis on how they were screaming and
- 39:21Speaker 2: the sound of it and how loud it is, and
- 39:23Speaker 2: they just made it. I don't know. It was just
- 39:24Speaker 2: like weird stuff that was definitely going on in that movie.
- 39:27Speaker 2: I thought it was great I had with them.
- 39:29Speaker 1: It's on my list of things that I want to
- 39:33Speaker 1: watch because.
- 39:33Speaker 2: There's a lot of creepy shit that I think is
- 39:35Speaker 2: just going on in a movie. You're not really sure
- 39:36Speaker 2: exactly what's happening, why they're even there for that long,
- 39:39Speaker 2: the way they are, whether if they could truly trust
- 39:43Speaker 2: this friend because it's the woman, it's her boyfriend's friend
- 39:47Speaker 2: that brought them all there. It was like, oh, like
- 39:50Speaker 2: I want to bring you guys like, you know, see
- 39:51Speaker 2: my family Da Da Da, and they go on this
- 39:53Speaker 2: huge trip to Sweden and then I don't know, just
- 39:56Speaker 2: in general, this movie made me scared to even visit
- 39:59Speaker 2: Sweden myself. Maybe if I have like a like some
- 40:02Speaker 2: shrewms on me or something, maybe I'll be a little
- 40:04Speaker 2: bit more tempted, because it's just like, all right, the
- 40:06Speaker 2: grass is really nice out there, Maybe I should go.
- 40:08Speaker 2: But definitely some scenes in Midsommer I think are some
- 40:12Speaker 2: of the I don't know if it's potentially like the scariest,
- 40:15Speaker 2: but I know some scenes in there are my favorite
- 40:17Speaker 2: because I just really like how they made such an
- 40:20Speaker 2: emphasis on sound in that movie and how that was
- 40:23Speaker 2: a big tactic of horror there.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Sometimes the scenes that stick with you are the ones
- 40:29Speaker 1: that maybe maybe they don't create like a screaming like
- 40:34Speaker 1: they're not like a jump scares. To me, jump scares
- 40:36Speaker 1: are really lazy.
- 40:37Speaker 2: They are They may hate jump scared.
- 40:39Speaker 1: They make you scared in the moment, but you.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Know it's a cheap shot. Of course I'm scared, But.
- 40:43Speaker 1: When you're driving home at night, those aren't the scenes
- 40:47Speaker 1: you think about. It's the creepy imagery. It's something like
- 40:50Speaker 1: the lady in the bathtub in the shining or it's right,
- 40:53Speaker 1: like I said, those scenes from The Blair Witch Project.
- 40:56Speaker 1: There's no jump scares in the Blair Witch Project. It's
- 40:58Speaker 1: just all you know, creepy shots and.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Just creepy shots, the awkwardness, like prolonged.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Stuff like that stuff that to me is really haunting
- 41:07Speaker 1: it and stands the test of time as far as
- 41:10Speaker 1: any other scenes that.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Sort of Yeah, sure, so there's definitely that. There's this
- 41:16Speaker 2: movie called The Annihilation and it is a movie about
- 41:22Speaker 2: this biologist basically being reached out to about uh, there's
- 41:27Speaker 2: like a specific area in the woods that like there's
- 41:30Speaker 2: a weird radiation that's coming from it.
- 41:32Speaker 1: YEA saw the movie.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Oh okay, okay, So I won't even going to explaining it.
- 41:36Speaker 2: So do you remember that scene of when they're in
- 41:39Speaker 2: like this weird like kind of like they're in like
- 41:41Speaker 2: a house like while they're in that area and that bear,
- 41:45Speaker 2: duck crocodile looking creature I came through and just started
- 41:49Speaker 2: like just regay havoc and like grabbed one of the people.
- 41:51Speaker 2: I think that scene for me it was just like, oh,
- 42:00Speaker 2: that was.
- 42:01Speaker 1: A movie that I thought was really good. Yeah, and
- 42:04Speaker 1: it was all women from what I remember.
- 42:06Speaker 2: And it was which was great because you don't really
- 42:08Speaker 2: see that too often, I feel like too.
- 42:10Speaker 1: And the beauty of it it wasn't forced because a
- 42:12Speaker 1: lot of times they have scenes or movies with women
- 42:15Speaker 1: and their whole shtick is like we're women. Yeah.
- 42:18Speaker 2: It's like yeah, it's like an emphasis. It's just like, yeah,
- 42:21Speaker 2: we're shit here, we're power, and this is like, oh, they.
- 42:24Speaker 1: Just happened to be women.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:26Speaker 1: The one that stands out in the Last Avengers movie,
- 42:29Speaker 1: there's a scene where like all the female superheroes are
- 42:32Speaker 1: doing their own thing and then they're like standing in
- 42:34Speaker 1: front of the camera.
- 42:36Speaker 2: The light is like behind them and their hair is
- 42:38Speaker 2: blowing in the wind and stuff. It could definitely take
- 42:41Speaker 2: away from it.
- 42:41Speaker 1: It's so annoying, but Annihilation was awesome.
- 42:43Speaker 2: Annihilation was awesome. I had a good time with that.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Or even when they were that scene where they were
- 42:50Speaker 2: watching the video. I think the husband was in that
- 42:52Speaker 2: video and it was like they were doing like weird
- 42:54Speaker 2: like cutting him open and taking the intestines out and
- 42:56Speaker 2: stuff like that. So like definitely a scene like that.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Those resonated with me. I feel like those were my favorites.
- 43:03Speaker 2: I also really like I can't really name specific scenes
- 43:06Speaker 2: from Sinister, but I do recall like really enjoying Sinister
- 43:09Speaker 2: one and two, like just the whole again, the whole, like, Oh,
- 43:12Speaker 2: we're like looking at tapes and like we're just like
- 43:15Speaker 2: witnessing something happened and trying to see if that is
- 43:18Speaker 2: something that's real or not. And uh, to kind of
- 43:22Speaker 2: bring it back to Saw. I'm actually a big fan
- 43:25Speaker 2: of the Saw series, except for Sauce Spy. I think
- 43:28Speaker 2: it was Saw Spiral or something like that, the one
- 43:31Speaker 2: with Chris Rock. Yeah, that was horrible.
- 43:33Speaker 1: I thought it was horrible, really bad ending. Yeah, I
- 43:36Speaker 1: thought it was alright until like the last twenty minutes
- 43:40Speaker 1: and then it sort of spiraled.
- 43:41Speaker 2: I feel like the entire movie. I was just pissed.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Oh yeah, pissed off the entire movie. I don't know
- 43:46Speaker 2: what it was about it, Like I feel like, again,
- 43:48Speaker 2: I know, it's the whole same story, like, oh my god,
- 43:51Speaker 2: who's this guy doing these creepy killings to people? And
- 43:54Speaker 2: we have to find out. But I feel like with
- 43:56Speaker 2: Saw Spiral, for some reason, like it was so obvious
- 43:59Speaker 2: from the jump what was happening. I was doing it,
- 44:01Speaker 2: and the police are just like, oh man, how do
- 44:03Speaker 2: we catch this guy? And I feel like there were
- 44:05Speaker 2: so many ways that they could have it, just I
- 44:08Speaker 2: don't know, it just felt really stupid for me. So
- 44:10Speaker 2: I did not like that movie. But in terms of
- 44:12Speaker 2: like my favorite scene, one of my favorite scenes from
- 44:14Speaker 2: the Saw series was definitely there was this one scene
- 44:18Speaker 2: where I forgot which Saw movie it was, but it
- 44:21Speaker 2: was that public that public killing that they did. They
- 44:24Speaker 2: were in uh, it was like two guys in the
- 44:27Speaker 2: window like in the like show when I don't even
- 44:31Speaker 2: know what am I talking about, Like show, Like they're
- 44:34Speaker 2: in like this window right like in public, and everyone
- 44:36Speaker 2: is able to see the storefront like a storefront right yeah,
- 44:40Speaker 2: justin Oh my god. I don't know why it took
- 44:41Speaker 2: me so long to find the words for that, because
- 44:43Speaker 2: I'm just like, what do you call this? Yeah, basically
- 44:48Speaker 2: it got transferred over. But that scene alone where the
- 44:53Speaker 2: girl is basically up on top and it's like on
- 44:55Speaker 2: top of this saw and these two guys like basically
- 44:59Speaker 2: was involved with her and it's a matter of like,
- 45:01Speaker 2: oh man, like which one is she gonna choose? Like,
- 45:04Speaker 2: and they basically ended up just like killing her like
- 45:06Speaker 2: letting her be killed, but the fact that that was
- 45:08Speaker 2: a whole like public execution, Like I really enjoyed that
- 45:12Speaker 2: scene for sure.
- 45:13Speaker 1: You mentioned, uh that that the saw spirals like obvious
- 45:17Speaker 1: what was going to happen. But when I think of
- 45:20Speaker 1: horror movies, a lot of them have great twists.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that is.
- 45:23Speaker 1: That is you know, a cliche that I think, when
- 45:27Speaker 1: done right, is something that could you know, be iconic.
- 45:31Speaker 1: That like when I think of the sixth Sense, which
- 45:34Speaker 1: I just rewatched again, you know the fact that have
- 45:37Speaker 1: you seen the sixth sense? By the way, do you
- 45:39Speaker 1: know the twist and the sixth sense?
- 45:41Speaker 2: I don't the sixth sense?
- 45:43Speaker 1: What is it all?
- 45:44Speaker 2: Give me like a small like just a small.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Place like probably seeing the parody of I think they
- 45:50Speaker 1: parody in uh one of the scary movie movies. Okay,
- 45:54Speaker 1: he says I see dead people.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Yeah that's the sixth sense.
- 45:59Speaker 1: That's the sixth sense.
- 46:00Speaker 2: Oh my god, that's what.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Okay, So I think in scary movie they say I
- 46:03Speaker 1: see white people.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so you don't know the twist? No, you got
- 46:09Speaker 1: to watch the sixth to watch the six Oh my god,
- 46:12Speaker 1: please do that this week it's on maybe pe Cocker
- 46:16Speaker 1: one of these streaming services. Hopefully they didn't take it down,
- 46:19Speaker 1: but I rewatched it this week, and you know, watching
- 46:23Speaker 1: it knowing what's going to happen, it sort of takes
- 46:25Speaker 1: away from it. But it's still really good acting performances.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 46:28Speaker 1: But movies like that that have that moment not even
- 46:31Speaker 1: in horror movies. They're just movies in general, where like
- 46:34Speaker 1: a movie like The Original Planet of the Apes from
- 46:36Speaker 1: nineteen sixty eight has this twist where they happened to
- 46:39Speaker 1: be on planet Earth the whole time and he didn't
- 46:41Speaker 1: know that, you know, he was in the future of
- 46:43Speaker 1: Earth and he sees the Statue of Liberty and you
- 46:46Speaker 1: had as an audience, are like, oh my god, they
- 46:48Speaker 1: were on Earth the whole fucking time and it just
- 46:51Speaker 1: happened to be taken over by Apes. Damn you, God,
- 46:57Speaker 1: damn you because they're in the distant future. Stuff like
- 47:03Speaker 1: that twists n night. Shyamalan, who directed The Sixth Sense,
- 47:07Speaker 1: his whole thing now is, you know, he has to
- 47:09Speaker 1: have a secret twist ending, but the Sixth Sense is
- 47:14Speaker 1: his sort of you know, crown jewel when it comes
- 47:17Speaker 1: to the twist ending. So I'm gonna need you back
- 47:21Speaker 1: on this show.
- 47:22Speaker 2: I was about to say, we need more episodes because
- 47:24Speaker 2: we just got movie recommendations from each other.
- 47:26Speaker 1: I'll watch that in summer, and now you watch the
- 47:29Speaker 1: Sixth Sense and we'll have to come back for that.
- 47:31Speaker 1: That well, let's get to the main event. The main
- 47:35Speaker 1: event that would be the Evil Dead series, which I'm
- 47:37Speaker 1: a huge fan of. This series. Yeah, you know, directed
- 47:40Speaker 1: by Sam Raimi who would go on to direct the
- 47:43Speaker 1: Spider Man series and is one of the you know,
- 47:46Speaker 1: biggest directors of the last twenty five years or so,
- 47:49Speaker 1: but he got his start in horror and that original
- 47:52Speaker 1: Evil Dead movie I enjoy. I really do like the
- 47:55Speaker 1: first Evil Dead but to me, it's when Evil Dead
- 47:58Speaker 1: two comes out is when I fall in love with
- 48:00Speaker 1: this series because it's sort of a soft reboot of
- 48:03Speaker 1: that original story. And now these guys are more experienced.
- 48:08Speaker 1: You know that was that was a Bruce Campbell and
- 48:10Speaker 1: and Sam Raimi. That was sort of their first film,
- 48:13Speaker 1: so they they they're rookies, but now they are experienced
- 48:17Speaker 1: when it comes to Evil Dead two, and they know
- 48:19Speaker 1: what worked in that original movie, what didn't work, and
- 48:22Speaker 1: then they amped it up. They turned the dial to
- 48:25Speaker 1: eleven and then they also implemented the comedy element, and
- 48:28Speaker 1: that is a very important thing when it comes to
- 48:31Speaker 1: Army of Darkness and Evil Dead two. They're very funny movies.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Bruce Campbell is a really talented comedic actor and a
- 48:38Speaker 1: physical comedian. He puts his body on the line, you know,
- 48:41Speaker 1: he'll smash stuff over his head, he'll flip his own body.
- 48:45Speaker 1: He's very much inspired by The Three Stooges, was both
- 48:48Speaker 1: Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. They're big fans of The Stooges,
- 48:52Speaker 1: so they tried to implement you know Stooges, you know,
- 48:55Speaker 1: cliche type of comedy, like you know, the poking of
- 48:58Speaker 1: the eyes and blocking the eye with your hand. I
- 49:01Speaker 1: mean they do. They do literal Three Stooges bits in
- 49:05Speaker 1: these movies. But it's amazing practical effects. It's great comedy,
- 49:09Speaker 1: it's great scares. Evil Dead two to me is probably
- 49:14Speaker 1: in my top five favorite horror movies of all time.
- 49:18Speaker 1: I think it's the best of the series. Is there
- 49:21Speaker 1: one that you think is the best?
- 49:23Speaker 2: Is it?
- 49:24Speaker 1: You know, they remade it in twenty thirteen. They had
- 49:26Speaker 1: one that came out last year. They have the original
- 49:29Speaker 1: three and then there's also the Ash Versus Evil Dead series,
- 49:31Speaker 1: which is a fantastic series that was on Stars a
- 49:34Speaker 1: few years ago. Is there one in the series that
- 49:37Speaker 1: is your all time favorite?
- 49:38Speaker 2: I feel like, honestly the most recent one, which was
- 49:42Speaker 2: The Evil Dead Rise and actually to One in twenty thirteen,
- 49:47Speaker 2: those were the two Evil deads that actually really enjoy
- 49:50Speaker 2: And again definitely with the whole aspect of it being
- 49:53Speaker 2: a horror comedy type of type of film, is just
- 49:58Speaker 2: the scenes like from Evil Dead Rise or even like
- 50:01Speaker 2: subceeds from Evil Dead from the twenty thirteen movie, it's
- 50:06Speaker 2: just funny, Like I'm like in in the Sea, just
- 50:09Speaker 2: kind of like shaking up a little bit just from
- 50:11Speaker 2: like the gore, like just knowing like, okay, this person
- 50:14Speaker 2: already turned like some shit's about to go down. But
- 50:17Speaker 2: when like a random moment will just happen like out
- 50:19Speaker 2: of nowhere, that's like funny and it kind of just
- 50:21Speaker 2: brings me out of it. But it's like it's a
- 50:23Speaker 2: weird comedic relief that I like, I've come to appreciate.
- 50:27Speaker 1: And the Evil Dead Rise had balds because it's one
- 50:31Speaker 1: of the rare movies that they actually kill kids in
- 50:35Speaker 1: a lot of these movies shy away from that, even
- 50:39Speaker 1: like the really bad characters like a Jason Vorhes. You
- 50:41Speaker 1: never see him kill a kid in any of the movies,
- 50:44Speaker 1: you know, older teenagers. But in this movie Evil Dead Rise,
- 50:48Speaker 1: it had some Baalds on it, And I do appreciate that.
- 50:52Speaker 1: I definitely still like the original ones better, but I
- 50:56Speaker 1: will say that I do enjoy that these movies didn't
- 50:59Speaker 1: shy away from from practical effects. They're using real blood.
- 51:02Speaker 1: A lot of these, particularly action movies, use a lot
- 51:05Speaker 1: of CGI blood, which to me looks so bad, it
- 51:08Speaker 1: looks so video game made. So the fact that this
- 51:12Speaker 1: movie wasn't afraid to use those practical effects and it
- 51:16Speaker 1: did something different Evil Dead Rise, where it wasn't the
- 51:19Speaker 1: same thing in the cabin in the woods. They were
- 51:21Speaker 1: in an apartment like.
- 51:23Speaker 2: A little apartment complex.
- 51:24Speaker 1: And I'm glad they tried something. I'm glad they tried
- 51:27Speaker 1: something different, but.
- 51:30Speaker 2: Something you also sorry to cut off if I did
- 51:34Speaker 2: something that I wanted to mention. Well, you had mentioned
- 51:37Speaker 2: I wanted to reiterate the importance of how they finally
- 51:40Speaker 2: brought like some kids into this shit, like into Evil
- 51:44Speaker 2: Dead Rise. Well, yeah, we have like one kid and
- 51:47Speaker 2: like two teenagers. But the fact of how all that
- 51:50Speaker 2: played out and they didn't spare the kids at all,
- 51:52Speaker 2: I just thought that was like great.
- 51:53Speaker 1: I was like, good again, if a kid sees this,
- 51:56Speaker 1: going back to my Jurassic Park story, you know, when
- 51:59Speaker 1: I was a kid, there were kids in that movie.
- 52:01Speaker 1: So if you're like an eight year old nine year
- 52:03Speaker 1: old kid watching Evil Dad, yeah, you're gonna imagine yourself
- 52:08Speaker 1: in that role, because you're not gonna imagine yourself as
- 52:10Speaker 1: a forty year old mom. It's just like, you can't
- 52:12Speaker 1: put yourself in those shoes, but you could put yourself
- 52:14Speaker 1: in the shoes of the kids. Right. So again, I
- 52:17Speaker 1: think a really smart decision. We'll see what they do
- 52:20Speaker 1: with that series. I'm sure they're not done with it.
- 52:24Speaker 1: I would like to see Bruce Campbell come back as Ash.
- 52:26Speaker 1: At some point, I know he sort of said he's
- 52:29Speaker 1: done with the series. I think they did a video
- 52:31Speaker 1: game and he said he'll do voiceover work for it.
- 52:34Speaker 1: But I think he might be done. I think he
- 52:36Speaker 1: might be done as Ash, which you know, he had
- 52:39Speaker 1: a good run. He's forty years of playing that character
- 52:42Speaker 1: on and off. But I would like to see one
- 52:44Speaker 1: final Sam Raymie, Bruce Campbell team up to do the
- 52:48Speaker 1: Evil Dead series, you know, just to wrap it up,
- 52:50Speaker 1: because they.
- 52:51Speaker 2: Just wrap it up in that sense, at least with
- 52:53Speaker 2: their story.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Yeah, just just to wrap this episode up because we've
- 52:57Speaker 1: been going for about an hour now. I want to
- 53:00Speaker 1: talk about the Jordan Peel movies.
- 53:02Speaker 2: Okay, I think he do that.
- 53:03Speaker 1: Actually, I think, you know, uh, he's a director that
- 53:08Speaker 1: does originality, which I'm all for, and I think I
- 53:13Speaker 1: think like his first movie the best. I think get
- 53:15Speaker 1: Out is his best one.
- 53:17Speaker 2: There's two different endings with that one, too, is there? Yeah?
- 53:20Speaker 1: I did not know that.
- 53:21Speaker 2: Yeah, there's two different endings. I think the one ending
- 53:24Speaker 2: that everyone is familiar with was the one where his
- 53:27Speaker 2: best friend comes in the police, right. The other ending
- 53:32Speaker 2: is it was like actual police Oh yeah at all.
- 53:36Speaker 2: So you see a black man and this poor white
- 53:41Speaker 2: victim of a woman, like covered in blood, like help me,
- 53:44Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 53:45Speaker 1: I'm shocked didn't go with that ending. I think that
- 53:47Speaker 1: would have had a more you would have remembered.
- 53:50Speaker 2: It. Was shocked about it too, yeah, because it's just like, oh, man,
- 53:54Speaker 2: like you finally think he's about to escape, and then
- 53:56Speaker 2: obviously they went right yeah, I'm kind of mad, Yeah,
- 54:01Speaker 2: because I like there's two endings.
- 54:03Speaker 1: Yeah, they should have they should have released the that
- 54:06Speaker 1: one in theaters though.
- 54:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree.
- 54:09Speaker 1: I like that movie the most as far as his
- 54:12Speaker 1: trilogy of films. But I'm always interested to see what
- 54:16Speaker 1: he does next because he doesn't do sequels. He's not He's.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I will say though I was not a fan
- 54:24Speaker 2: of Nope at all. No, I was not a fan
- 54:28Speaker 2: at all.
- 54:28Speaker 1: Especially was terrible.
- 54:32Speaker 2: I thought the whole thing. I was just sitting there pissed. Yeah, pissed.
- 54:35Speaker 2: And I and I made this kind of like a
- 54:37Speaker 2: special thing because it was around my birthday at the time,
- 54:40Speaker 2: and I knew about Nope from when he had first
- 54:43Speaker 2: announced it. So I'm sitting on like two years of
- 54:45Speaker 2: knowing about Nope and just waiting for it in theaters.
- 54:48Speaker 2: I went to a whole drive in like theater, So
- 54:51Speaker 2: in my car, pissed. I'm in my car pissed. I
- 54:54Speaker 2: don't even want popcorn from this random shack in the
- 54:56Speaker 2: woods anymore. Like I'm pissed, like I don't know what
- 54:59Speaker 2: it well, I do know what it was. I just
- 55:02Speaker 2: feel like the entire movie, like it was just I
- 55:04Speaker 2: don't even know what I was watching. I feel like
- 55:06Speaker 2: none of it brought any type of like fear or
- 55:10Speaker 2: I just don't think any of it was scary, And
- 55:13Speaker 2: you know, that was very weird for me because I know,
- 55:15Speaker 2: for me, a big thing with what can be scary
- 55:18Speaker 2: is definitely the unknown. So I just don't know why,
- 55:23Speaker 2: Like I don't know if I just had such high
- 55:25Speaker 2: expectations for what it was that could yeah, because I
- 55:28Speaker 2: was waiting on it for like like two years before
- 55:30Speaker 2: it actually like dropped, So even without having any idea
- 55:33Speaker 2: as to what the movie was gonna entail, I still
- 55:36Speaker 2: just had such big expectations and I just feel like
- 55:39Speaker 2: it was not met at all. But I will I
- 55:43Speaker 2: will agree with you on get Out probably be my favorite.
- 55:46Speaker 2: I really enjoyed Us too, but I will say it
- 55:48Speaker 2: was definitely kind of confusing, and I honestly like I
- 55:52Speaker 2: think if I revisited maybe like one or two more times,
- 55:54Speaker 2: I would have a better opinion about it. But I know,
- 55:57Speaker 2: I definitely like get Out was like good praise, Yeah,
- 56:00Speaker 2: great performances. I think he does a good job with
- 56:03Speaker 2: getting the right people to do everything.
- 56:06Speaker 1: So yeah, I think he announced a new movie. I
- 56:09Speaker 1: think it's coming out in a year or so, so
- 56:12Speaker 1: I'm sure it will make a lot of money. Yeah,
- 56:16Speaker 1: movies make a lot of money. People are invested in
- 56:19Speaker 1: his film. You know, his his directing, so we'll see
- 56:23Speaker 1: what he does. But nessa, this has been a pleasure,
- 56:26Speaker 1: a pleasure, Justine. But we need to have the the
- 56:29Speaker 1: sequel addition, we do because you need to watch the
- 56:32Speaker 1: Sixth Sense.
- 56:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and Blair Witch Project. That's also.
- 56:36Speaker 1: I'm so happy you don't know the sixth Sense.
- 56:39Speaker 2: Yeah, because I'm so familiar with that reference. But I
- 56:43Speaker 2: was just like, where did I come? I didn't go
- 56:45Speaker 2: further to see where it came from to actually like
- 56:47Speaker 2: watch it. So definitely watch it. I don't know if
- 56:50Speaker 2: you know the VHS movies, Yeah, I would recommend that.
- 56:53Speaker 1: Okay, how many do they have? Now?
- 56:55Speaker 2: They have a lot now. I actually didn't even know
- 56:57Speaker 2: they had so much. I gotta watch them myself because
- 56:59Speaker 2: I thing I only watched the first two movies, first
- 57:02Speaker 2: two or three movies.
- 57:03Speaker 1: They're not released in theaters either.
- 57:05Speaker 2: I don't think I think they're just directed. They're just yea.
- 57:08Speaker 1: Streaming or whatnot. That's a shame that a lot of
- 57:10Speaker 1: these movies don't get the the theatrical release.
- 57:14Speaker 2: Yeah, because a lot of them really deserve it, honestly.
- 57:18Speaker 1: All right now, so well, thank you for joining me
- 57:19Speaker 1: on Film Reel. We'll be back, hopefully in a few
- 57:22Speaker 1: weeks to recap some of the movies that we mentioned seeing,
- 57:25Speaker 1: and I eventually will get that Transformers Part three episode
- 57:28Speaker 1: out that will be the next episode of Film Reel.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Thank you all for listening so long.
- 57:31Speaker 2: Bye, Thank you. It was a pleasure.
