2:34
Speaker 2: on the show before. You know his story. His teenage
2:37
Speaker 2: son Bryce tragically took his own life in a sex
2:40
Speaker 2: stortion situation. Adam now tries to warn other parents and
2:44
Speaker 2: others about sex stortion. In fact, yesterday he spoke with
2:47
Speaker 2: a group of teachers and other educators and an event
2:50
Speaker 2: here in Charleston. Adam joins us this morning on the
2:52
Speaker 2: Guarantee Bank Hotline. Adam, good morning, welcome to the show.
2:55
Speaker 6: Hey, how you doing sir? Thanks for having me.
2:57
Speaker 2: Thank you for being here. By now, I think everyone
2:59
Speaker 2: knows the story of your late sun Bries, but if
3:02
Speaker 2: you would again just take take us through that day again.
3:07
Speaker 6: Yeah. So, uh, first and foremost, I can't speak highly
3:10
Speaker 6: enough about my son. He was a tremendous person inside
3:13
Speaker 6: and out. Everyone that had pleasure of knowing him would
3:15
Speaker 6: echo that same testament about him. So I just wanted
3:19
Speaker 6: to get that out there. He's an amazing kid. But
3:21
Speaker 6: it was just a normal day. He went to the gym,
3:24
Speaker 6: he came home, played some basketball. There was no red
3:28
Speaker 6: flags about what was going on. And we found out
3:34
Speaker 6: after you know that that tragedy on November the sixth.
3:36
Speaker 6: It took twelve days, but the FBI reached out to us.
3:40
Speaker 6: They they performed a forensics audit on his telephone and
3:44
Speaker 6: they found that he was a victim of sextortion. And
3:47
Speaker 6: we didn't know what that was, naturally, we had never
3:50
Speaker 6: heard that term before. But once they told us that
3:54
Speaker 6: and we went public with it, I noticed a common
3:58
Speaker 6: theme that no one knew it toortion was become kind
4:02
Speaker 6: of came our mission to spread that awareness, and we
4:06
Speaker 6: started the Rice State Memorial Foundation, and that's our sole
4:09
Speaker 6: purpose is to spread sextortion awareness to help protect kids
4:13
Speaker 6: and their families.
4:14
Speaker 2: What does the case stand now? Did they ever Adam
4:18
Speaker 2: or they able ever to to to trace like where
4:22
Speaker 2: it where it came from? Because from what I understand
4:24
Speaker 2: talking to you before, this was the situation where your
4:26
Speaker 2: son thought he was chatting I think with a with
4:30
Speaker 2: a with a teenage girl, uh and uh, and that
4:33
Speaker 2: that was what he was led to believe. And then
4:35
Speaker 2: the person machine or whatever was on the other end
4:40
Speaker 2: basically threatened him with pictures and things of that nature.
4:44
Speaker 2: Where does it stand.
4:45
Speaker 6: Now, Yeah, So what happened was it was a person
4:48
Speaker 6: that was claiming to be a seventeen year old girl
4:50
Speaker 6: that contacted him, and they knew enough about him to
4:53
Speaker 6: make that conversation believable. They knew who played basketball at Nitro,
4:58
Speaker 6: they knew he lifted weights, Slain's nautilust, they knew some
5:01
Speaker 6: of his best friend's names, and so they made it believable.
5:04
Speaker 6: And then they shared images and asked for him to
5:06
Speaker 6: return those images, and then that's when the expectation started.
5:10
Speaker 6: But it's still an active investigation with the FBI. They
5:13
Speaker 6: do know the country of origin, however, they don't want
5:15
Speaker 6: that release to the ARBET, but it is out. It
5:18
Speaker 6: is outside of the country, but it's an active investigation
5:21
Speaker 6: with the FBI, and they're saying it sounds promising. So
5:23
Speaker 6: I'm very hopeful that we can get some justice in
5:26
Speaker 6: the near future.
5:26
Speaker 2: Oh absolutely. And now, as you said, you tell his
5:29
Speaker 2: story pretty much to anyone that'll listen, other parents, grandparents,
5:35
Speaker 2: and I know you spoke yesterday to some educators. You're
5:38
Speaker 2: out there telling the story of what happened to your
5:41
Speaker 2: son and how it could easily and how easily it happens.
5:44
Speaker 6: Oh exactly. Yeah, this this took the matter of three
5:46
Speaker 6: hours for my son, and I just want people to
5:49
Speaker 6: realize how fast this does happen. So you know, with
5:52
Speaker 6: Bryce it was three hours. We know of other cases
5:55
Speaker 6: where it was an hour, one was twenty minutes. So
5:57
Speaker 6: people need to understand this isn't something that happened over
6:00
Speaker 6: the course of days or weeks. It happens in hours,
6:03
Speaker 6: and it's very real. Like since this happened November the sixth,
6:07
Speaker 6: just locally Knall County, in Counties, I've had forty families
6:11
Speaker 6: reach out to either myself or my wife, thanking us
6:14
Speaker 6: for going public because since then, their kids have been targeted,
6:18
Speaker 6: but since they had conversations with their kids, the outcomes
6:21
Speaker 6: were much different, thankfully, So I can see in real
6:24
Speaker 6: time the benefit of spreading the awerkness, and that's why
6:28
Speaker 6: I feel obligated any opportunity that I can get out
6:32
Speaker 6: and try to spread that awareness. I'm taking every opportunity
6:35
Speaker 6: because I see in real time the difference the awareness makes.
6:40
Speaker 2: And you did a presentation I think, in front of
6:44
Speaker 2: some educators yesterday talk about that.
6:47
Speaker 6: Yeah, yes, sir, so we've been in contact with the
6:50
Speaker 6: Board of Education and we've got some other events scheduled
6:53
Speaker 6: with them in the future. But yeah, I just wanted
6:56
Speaker 6: to take that opportunity because it's very important because it
6:59
Speaker 6: takes a community to protect our kids because you know,
7:02
Speaker 6: parents can't stay up on all the different dangers. It's
7:05
Speaker 6: ever evolving, so you know, right now stortion is really big.
7:08
Speaker 6: I mean, if you look at the statistics year every year,
7:11
Speaker 6: it's only increasing at like an alarming rate. So you know,
7:15
Speaker 6: parents can't stay up on everything in every crime that's
7:19
Speaker 6: targetting our children, and neither can't teacher. So it truly
7:22
Speaker 6: takes a whole community. And I felt like, what better
7:25
Speaker 6: way to try to spread this awareness. If I can
7:29
Speaker 6: get a group full of teachers together, you know, let
7:31
Speaker 6: them know what it is. At that way, whenever we're
7:33
Speaker 6: going into the next school year, they can kind of
7:35
Speaker 6: talk to their kids about this and helpect them.
7:39
Speaker 2: And I think you're to be applauded for what you
7:41
Speaker 2: have done in talking with other parents and the number
7:43
Speaker 2: of parents and grandparents that you have said that have
7:46
Speaker 2: come forward based on you telling your story. But the educators,
7:49
Speaker 2: I mean, let's face it, you know, kids spend more
7:52
Speaker 2: time in school than during the school year than what
7:56
Speaker 2: they do at home. I mean, awa awake hours anyway,
7:59
Speaker 2: I should say. So, you know, these educators, whether it's
8:02
Speaker 2: a teacher or a coach or whatever the case may be,
8:05
Speaker 2: they have in many cases just as much, if not more,
8:08
Speaker 2: influence on a kid's life than what their parents do.
8:12
Speaker 6: Right, And no matter what avenue they get this information from,
8:16
Speaker 6: the biggest thing is they have to be able to
8:18
Speaker 6: identify this threat. Like I've seen that. Like, if they're
8:21
Speaker 6: in this moment and they're unaware of what sextortion is,
8:25
Speaker 6: it's extremely overwhelming, you know, so, but if they can
8:28
Speaker 6: identify it, I've truly seen this in real time. If
8:32
Speaker 6: they had the conversation and they know what sextortion is
8:35
Speaker 6: and they can identify it, it's much easier for them
8:38
Speaker 6: to navigate themselves out of it. So that's not to
8:41
Speaker 6: say that it's still not traumatizing and extremely scary. I mean,
8:44
Speaker 6: I've seen it firsthand. I've talked to people, I've talked
8:47
Speaker 6: to children. Here. Just last month, I talked to a
8:49
Speaker 6: kid for forty five minutes. He was in the process
8:51
Speaker 6: of being sextorted. He knew what it was, but it
8:54
Speaker 6: was extremely terrifying for him still in that moment. So
8:58
Speaker 6: but that's why I'm just taking all these opportunities everywhere
9:02
Speaker 6: I go. I've got flyers, information cards, bracelets. I hand
9:06
Speaker 6: them out everywhere I go, just because you never know
9:09
Speaker 6: when that information is going to reach the right hands.
9:11
Speaker 6: It can potentially save someone's life.
9:13
Speaker 2: What do those conversations look like that you have, And
9:16
Speaker 2: I guess it depends on the situation. But if you
9:18
Speaker 2: sit down and you talk to that young man, or
9:20
Speaker 2: if you're sitting down one on one and talking with parents,
9:22
Speaker 2: what what what do the conversations look like?
9:27
Speaker 6: Well, typically what I have to do is or what
9:29
Speaker 6: I do is I reassure them that they did nothing wrong.
9:32
Speaker 6: You know, naturally, the first thing for prevention is you
9:36
Speaker 6: want kids to say, hey, don't send those images. But
9:40
Speaker 6: at the same time you have to be realistic to
9:42
Speaker 6: understand they are kids. You know, people make mistakes. They
9:45
Speaker 6: are kids, and that's exactly why these criminals target this
9:48
Speaker 6: age group, because they know hormones are raging and it's
9:51
Speaker 6: a high likelihood that they can get those images. You know,
9:54
Speaker 6: so you have to reiterate them that they are the victim,
9:58
Speaker 6: they did nothing wrong here. You know, you can have
10:00
Speaker 6: those conversations down road, explain to them why it's important
10:03
Speaker 6: not to send those images, but in that moment, it's
10:05
Speaker 6: not the time to.
10:06
Speaker 2: Ridicate, right, Yeah, yeah, it's already done at that point.
10:08
Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly. So at that point, you know, I'm just
10:11
Speaker 6: trying to reassure them that they're the victim, they did
10:13
Speaker 6: nothing wrong a lot of times. But they come back
10:16
Speaker 6: on constantly is well what if these images get out?
10:18
Speaker 6: What if these images get out? So that reassurance and
10:21
Speaker 6: I tell them, you know, there's a number of things there.
10:24
Speaker 6: You know, Number one of the FBI in the Sheriff's
10:26
Speaker 6: department has tools to be able to scrub those images
10:28
Speaker 6: off the internet, so it gives them a little bit
10:30
Speaker 6: of peace of mind. Number Two, if anyone else has
10:33
Speaker 6: access to those images, they are liable because they're holding
10:38
Speaker 6: child pornography, you know, so they can be be in
10:41
Speaker 6: a lot of trouble too for just possessing those images.
10:43
Speaker 6: So I just try to reiterate to them that they
10:45
Speaker 6: did nothing wrong and try to calm their nerves down,
10:48
Speaker 6: and you know, reiterate to them that they are the victim.
10:53
Speaker 2: What does the conversation look like with a parent that
10:55
Speaker 2: hasn't had this happen to their family. I mean, somebody
10:58
Speaker 2: when you talk to Pa Andy, They've not been a
11:01
Speaker 2: victim of this, But just as a preventative tool, what
11:04
Speaker 2: do those conversations look like at them?
11:07
Speaker 6: Well, I just I just try to urge all parents
11:09
Speaker 6: to have that conversation because unfortunately I did not get
11:12
Speaker 6: to have this conversation with my son, and I can
11:14
Speaker 6: see firsthand the benefit of the conversation. You know, if
11:18
Speaker 6: you can have that talk with your kid, you're equipping
11:20
Speaker 6: them with the defense mechanism to be able to navigate
11:22
Speaker 6: themselves out of it. So, you know, I wish that
11:25
Speaker 6: I had that opportunity to tell Bryce about what this was,
11:29
Speaker 6: and so you know, I just urge every parent, you know,
11:32
Speaker 6: like so many people fall into this state of mind
11:35
Speaker 6: where it's like, oh, that's tragic that happened to that
11:38
Speaker 6: family down the road, you know, and I'll pray for them,
11:41
Speaker 6: so on and so forth, but they don't believe that
11:43
Speaker 6: it will happen to their family. And I was one
11:45
Speaker 6: of those people that believed that way, Like you hear
11:47
Speaker 6: all these tragic things in the back of our minds.
11:50
Speaker 6: You know, we're such a tight family, and my son
11:53
Speaker 6: and I had such an amazing relationships, like, oh, he
11:55
Speaker 6: would definitely reach out to me. You know, there's no
11:57
Speaker 6: way that something like this would happen, you know, and
11:59
Speaker 6: we're all in my well, I'd say most of us
12:01
Speaker 6: are naive to think that way. But I'm telling you
12:04
Speaker 6: right now, it can't happen to your family. So if
12:07
Speaker 6: it can happen to mine, it can happen to yours.
12:08
Speaker 6: And that's not a scare tactic. That's just a fact.
12:11
Speaker 6: So just have the conversation. Yeah, you know, it's a
12:15
Speaker 6: somewhat difficult conversation, but trust me, I wish that I
12:18
Speaker 6: could have had it with my son.
12:19
Speaker 2: Brace talk before we let you go, Adam, talk about
12:22
Speaker 2: the foundation that you started and what you're hoping to
12:24
Speaker 2: accomplish here.
12:25
Speaker 6: Yeah, So what we're doing is it's the Firstate Memorial Foundation.
12:29
Speaker 6: We've got a website if anyone wants to look at
12:31
Speaker 6: it's Justice for Bryce dot com. And the biggest thing
12:34
Speaker 6: we're doing is just naturally trying to spread awareness. We
12:37
Speaker 6: are partnered throughout the United States. We've got some people
12:41
Speaker 6: in Washington, Oregon, Texas, Wisconsin, Maryland, South Carolina, Florida. So
12:46
Speaker 6: what I do is I partner with them and I
12:49
Speaker 6: send them thousands of flyers and information cards and bracelets
12:52
Speaker 6: that way they can have conversations within their own communities.
12:56
Speaker 6: And I do the same here, just try to spread
12:59
Speaker 6: awareness any way that I can, if that's through social
13:01
Speaker 6: media platforms, if that's through flyers and information cards. And
13:05
Speaker 6: then we're also partner with Pray and Play West Virginia,
13:08
Speaker 6: who's a nonprofit in the state as well, and they're
13:11
Speaker 6: they're putting the one two memorial basketball tournaments and Bryce's
13:16
Speaker 6: memory and that's a great way to get the community together.
13:19
Speaker 6: And we also have like you know, information there. We've
13:22
Speaker 6: got some other groups that are there to help with
13:25
Speaker 6: like mental health with kids, and you know, other areas
13:28
Speaker 6: of concern that kids might come across throughout the school year.
13:31
Speaker 6: But we've actually got a tournament coming up September the
13:34
Speaker 6: twelfth and the thirteenth at Nitro. It's gonna be a
13:38
Speaker 6: three on three outdoor tournament. So we're pretty excited about that.
13:41
Speaker 6: But the biggest thing is we're just trying to spread awareness.
13:44
Speaker 2: And I know I had you on last year. I
13:46
Speaker 2: think to talk about that tournament, so remind me and
13:48
Speaker 2: we'll have you on again as the tournament gets a
13:50
Speaker 2: little bit closer. I appreciate Adam. Thanks a lot you,
13:53
Speaker 2: Sir Adam tates Man. What a story. I mean, every
13:57
Speaker 2: time I hear you know that story, and this is
14:00
Speaker 2: second or third time I've interviewed Adam, it's it's just
14:02
Speaker 2: such a it's such a tragedy. And I guess to me,
14:04
Speaker 2: and again I'm an no parent, I'll say that, but
14:07
Speaker 2: that it all happened in a course of about three hours.
14:10
Speaker 2: This was not like an on from what his dad
14:13
Speaker 2: says that it is an ongoing investigation, This was not
14:16
Speaker 2: something that went on over several months. This literally happened
14:20
Speaker 2: in about a three hour timeframe that this young man
14:24
Speaker 2: Bryce was messaged or somehow, I don't know how. They
14:29
Speaker 2: was someone that he thought was a seventeen year old girl.
14:33
Speaker 2: It turns out it was someone in another country. Images
14:36
Speaker 2: were exchanged and then they come back and say, if
14:38
Speaker 2: you don't get me this money, we're going to make
14:40
Speaker 2: those images public. And again, as Adam said, the FBI
14:44
Speaker 2: has been involved for sometimes. This happened in November of
14:46
Speaker 2: last year. It's still an ongoing investigation. They have said
14:50
Speaker 2: that it did not happen in America, but they don't
14:54
Speaker 2: want to reveal the country that it did happen. I
14:55
Speaker 2: think bottom line is and I think this is good
14:58
Speaker 2: information for all of us. And look, I'm a user
15:01
Speaker 2: of social media and I don'm not sure what platform
15:04
Speaker 2: they used or whatever, but when you're on social media,
15:09
Speaker 2: about eighty percent of the people that are on there
15:12
Speaker 2: on nationals are not real people. So just keep that
15:16
Speaker 2: in mind. It's nine to twenty two, but Aave Island

16:07
Speaker 4: You may think speeding a little isn't really speeding, but
16:10
Speaker 4: even a few miles over the limit has consequences. First,
16:14
Speaker 4: there's the fine. Your first offense could cost you one
16:17
Speaker 4: hundred dollars plus court costs, and you'll pay a lot
16:20
Speaker 4: more if it's your second or third offense. Eventually you
16:22
Speaker 4: can lose your license or even go to jail, and
16:25
Speaker 4: those are minor consequences. Speeding causes ten thousand deaths each year,
16:30
Speaker 4: So next time you think a few miles over isn't
16:32
Speaker 4: a big deal, think again. This message is brought to
16:35
Speaker 4: you by the West Virginia Governor's Highway Safety Program.

17:31

17:51
Speaker 9: Uh?
17:51
Speaker 2: Yes, but not not. I didn't want worked with Yeah,
17:53
Speaker 2: but but I met him at different broadcasting events and
17:56
Speaker 2: things like that.
17:56
Speaker 8: That nature that was the first guy like I really
18:00
Speaker 8: not recognized in the Hall of Fame, but I really
18:02
Speaker 8: like cried because he deserved it.
18:05
Speaker 3: Man, and and and you are one.
18:07
Speaker 8: Of those people that you know, we've been knowing each
18:10
Speaker 8: other even before you worked here. We've been knowing each
18:12
Speaker 8: other a long time. And you deserve every part of.
18:15
Speaker 3: This thing that they giving you.
18:17
Speaker 2: My man, I really do.
18:19
Speaker 8: I'm kidding, don't know you could talk that talk like yo,
18:22
Speaker 8: like I want to thank me, but you deserve it.
18:27
Speaker 2: It was it's an honor to go in there. And
18:30
Speaker 2: you know, and when when I and I think about
18:32
Speaker 2: the people in this company and other companies that have
18:35
Speaker 2: gone there, people that have passed to think, no, wait
18:37
Speaker 2: a minute, I mean every day I pull on this
18:39
Speaker 2: parking lot, would row. I mean every day I'm like
18:41
Speaker 2: quit a minute. I work with Fred Persinger, Are you
18:43
Speaker 2: kidding me? I don't want to go I work with
18:45
Speaker 2: I'm in the same building with with with Jeff Jenkins.
18:48
Speaker 2: It's still I've been here six years and it still
18:50
Speaker 2: takes me a little bit of time to get used.
18:51
Speaker 3: To that and serious.
18:53
Speaker 8: On a real note, those probably are the two nicest
18:56
Speaker 8: people in our building. They can be arrogant if they
18:58
Speaker 8: want to. We talk about Jeff Nacs and Fred Persinger
19:01
Speaker 8: like and they will help you. They would do anything
19:05
Speaker 8: that you need done, especially if it's if it's behind
19:08
Speaker 8: this microphone, like to make our shows better. Shout out
19:11
Speaker 8: to them.
19:12
Speaker 3: Man.
19:12
Speaker 2: All right, So let's talk about this big event it's
19:14
Speaker 2: going down Saturday, all right, talk about it.
19:15
Speaker 3: So what he Fest?
19:16
Speaker 2: Man?
19:16
Speaker 8: What he Fest is happening? Brought to you by Selango law.
19:19
Speaker 8: I know you know Ben and uh a to z outlet.
19:22
Speaker 8: Actually it's been in the work works about three years, man,
19:26
Speaker 8: C four promotions. We got some uh got a promotion
19:29
Speaker 8: team with us, uh Riggs and and Ryan's dad and
19:32
Speaker 8: Roger and Charles Rashtt and we just weving hitters there.
19:37
Speaker 2: Man.
19:37
Speaker 8: Yeah, Man, I don't know how I got to sit
19:38
Speaker 8: at the table over there with so Hols they called
19:40
Speaker 8: they call that the owner's table.
19:42
Speaker 3: Yeah, I get to sit at the owner's table for
19:44
Speaker 3: so hold But.
19:45
Speaker 2: Ran didn't even get it set at the understable.
19:46
Speaker 8: Ryan, I'm pulling you up, brother, talk that talk Ryan.
19:52
Speaker 8: But then we're gonna have a good time.
19:53
Speaker 3: Brother.
19:54
Speaker 8: It's gonna happen Saturday. Gates open up at three o'clock.
19:57
Speaker 8: And the way we did this, we did it kind
19:58
Speaker 8: of eras music are. It's like Yin Yang Twins is
20:01
Speaker 8: more of the forty five to fifty year olds walk
20:04
Speaker 8: a flock. I just got off off eight with Hanna
20:07
Speaker 8: Kline and she's that she said she loves him, So
20:11
Speaker 8: that's kind of that era. And Dub Baby it might
20:14
Speaker 8: be the biggest hip hop artist out right now.
20:16
Speaker 6: Man.
20:16
Speaker 3: We got lucky with him to have him in Charleston
20:18
Speaker 3: this Saturday, and.
20:19
Speaker 2: Uh, you got I mean, just so many other folks
20:22
Speaker 2: there too.
20:23
Speaker 3: You got it. I hate to call him local.
20:26
Speaker 8: You got great artists like we got Pantry Band, Like
20:29
Speaker 8: he's a country guy. We got White Mike, he's actually
20:32
Speaker 8: a firefighter that does hip hop music. You got Lisa
20:35
Speaker 8: Lee hosting it. It's just a beautiful thing.
20:38
Speaker 9: Man.
20:39
Speaker 2: Why why did you want to do this? I mean
20:41
Speaker 2: there's a lot of we don't we in this business
20:43
Speaker 2: don't have a lot of time, you know, in a weekend,
20:46
Speaker 2: if you you know, we kind of we kind of
20:48
Speaker 2: cherish his weekends that if you get a rare one
20:50
Speaker 2: that you don't have something to do. This is a
20:52
Speaker 2: lot of work, man. I have put on concerts in
20:54
Speaker 2: the past, never anything like this. I've done like one
20:57
Speaker 2: night concerts. I've never done anything plus outdoors. And they
21:01
Speaker 2: why did you want to do this?
21:02
Speaker 8: I think I've been on a radio on this market
21:05
Speaker 8: for twenty seven years and I really didn't have And
21:08
Speaker 8: it's not about me. The Roger them made me name
21:10
Speaker 8: it Woody Fest, but it really wasn't nothing that I
21:13
Speaker 8: can leave to my kids and say, if this thing
21:16
Speaker 8: is up, we're not just doing it one year, We're
21:17
Speaker 8: gonna continue to do it and they can say, my
21:19
Speaker 8: daddy started this and it's the first one. And I
21:22
Speaker 8: also wanted the outlet for artists like Knie Knie Incognito
21:28
Speaker 8: or Cold Code that they can get on a big
21:29
Speaker 8: stage with these major artists.
21:32
Speaker 2: Also, there's something really cool about that. And I'm not
21:35
Speaker 2: a musician, but I have been around plenty that when
21:39
Speaker 2: you know you have a quote unquote local act or
21:41
Speaker 2: an up and coming act, it gets to rub shoulders
21:44
Speaker 2: backstage at the catering table or whatever with one of
21:47
Speaker 2: these major stars. I mean, it's kind of like what
21:49
Speaker 2: we talked about earlier. You know, you think I've arrived. Yeah, yeah, right, yeah,
21:53
Speaker 2: I'm in the same conversation with them.
21:55
Speaker 8: We had an artist meeting yesterday and the artist came
21:58
Speaker 8: and we just we just we fellowship, We learned off
22:02
Speaker 8: each other.
22:02
Speaker 3: We talked about how the show is gonna run.
22:05
Speaker 8: And there's one thing that I want to leave a
22:08
Speaker 8: market in this market that we love our musicians. We
22:13
Speaker 8: love them, man, and this is a stage where they
22:15
Speaker 8: can get in front of five thousand people.
22:17
Speaker 3: Brother.
22:17
Speaker 2: I mean, and again, it's gonna be the Shawnee Sports Complex,
22:20
Speaker 2: but it's not. I saw somebody posted on face might
22:23
Speaker 2: have been Lisha or somebody posted on Facebook and said,
22:25
Speaker 2: this is not a concert. I mean, there's music there,
22:28
Speaker 2: but this is an event. This is a festival because
22:31
Speaker 2: there's a lot of other things going on. You got
22:32
Speaker 2: food trucks coming in, you got stuff for kids. Yeah,
22:36
Speaker 2: and more importantly, this is something that is in a
22:40
Speaker 2: safe environment. Everything's going to go off with out a hitch,
22:42
Speaker 2: I'm sure. So that's shout out to the Kanall County Sheriffs.
22:45
Speaker 2: This is gonna be about thirty of them. They're also
22:47
Speaker 2: security team, our security top notch man. I got a
22:51
Speaker 2: security partner named Chad Davis, and it just top notch.
22:53
Speaker 2: And we're just gonna have like Lisa said, it's more
22:56
Speaker 2: than a concert, man, and it's the first one. Yeah.
23:00
Speaker 8: She and big shout out to Commission of Silango. If
23:03
Speaker 8: this go well, and I think it will, they're gonna
23:05
Speaker 8: do more stuff there. It's not just gonna be the
23:07
Speaker 8: soccer fields or the football fields or the baseball games.
23:10
Speaker 8: Now we're gonna have an outside music venue that we
23:12
Speaker 8: can and.
23:13
Speaker 2: You have all different types of music. Oh yeah, yeah, man, Yeah,
23:15
Speaker 2: I mean there's no reason why you couldn't have, you know.
23:17
Speaker 2: And I'm a big believer, and I love when you
23:19
Speaker 2: have these mashes of people that kind of come together.
23:22
Speaker 2: Like you said, you got pantry there, you also got
23:24
Speaker 2: hip hop. So of the biggest artists in the game there.
23:26
Speaker 2: But I mean I would like nothing better than to,
23:29
Speaker 2: you know, let's do a gospel let's do let's do
23:32
Speaker 2: a country one, Let's do a southern rock one. Let's
23:35
Speaker 2: just do it all.
23:35
Speaker 8: I might be talking too much, but Mike Jeruse, the
23:38
Speaker 8: owner of the Oler Tree, he said, then when it's over,
23:41
Speaker 8: we're gonna work on some jazz stuff. So we might
23:43
Speaker 8: have a jazz you know. Yeah, so it might be
23:46
Speaker 8: something like that. And it's just we we got that well,
23:49
Speaker 8: they got that land out there once one they build
23:53
Speaker 8: built that thing up.
23:54
Speaker 3: It's beautiful.
23:55
Speaker 8: I don't know if you've been in there lately, man,
23:56
Speaker 8: it's a beautiful facility that they did with Shawnee. I
24:00
Speaker 8: think it brought back a lot of economic money to
24:05
Speaker 8: the to that area. Hotels, full places, the pitches right there.
24:09
Speaker 8: Jeru's got the Olive Tree Express in there. There's just
24:12
Speaker 8: so much stuff we can do, and the commissioners are
24:15
Speaker 8: are with it. They want to do stuff there.
24:17
Speaker 2: All right, Let's if you get the line up in
24:19
Speaker 2: front of you there so we can kind of go
24:20
Speaker 2: down the lineup for people. Let me see if while
24:23
Speaker 2: you do that, I will say this so Dave Alan
24:25
Speaker 2: Show on five. Any line is brought to you in
24:26
Speaker 2: part by Pinnacle Consultants. Help me to identify environmental concerns
24:29

24:35
Speaker 2: credit to lab services you could trust. Check out Pinnacle
24:38
Speaker 2: Corp dot net helping you understand your environment because what
24:40
Speaker 2: you don't know can hurt you.
24:42
Speaker 3: Dave, how do I get a commercial on your show?
24:45
Speaker 1: Right?
24:45
Speaker 8: People love you, people love the Day Valley.
24:49
Speaker 2: But they land show brought to you apart by what
24:52
Speaker 2: doy for Breakfast Today had raising brand and uh, now, man,
24:57
Speaker 2: you've always got something going on. I mean you're always
24:59
Speaker 2: with her. This is the biggest thing you've ever done.
25:02
Speaker 2: But I mean you're always go He's got some sort
25:04
Speaker 2: of an event going on and whatever. So just I
25:07
Speaker 2: mean we're literally in the same building.
25:08
Speaker 3: No doubt.
25:09
Speaker 8: I love you, brother, and thanks for having that open
25:11
Speaker 8: door policy for me. Man, if you want the lineup,
25:13
Speaker 8: Gate's gonna open up at three. DJ Lauren Trill, she's
25:17
Speaker 8: a female DJ. She's gonna kick it off. Then Steven
25:19
Speaker 8: Thomas is an R and B guy, He's gonna go
25:22
Speaker 8: on stage at three thirty. Then you got Ni Nie
25:24
Speaker 8: that's a female hip hop artist. At four. Then at
25:27
Speaker 8: four thirty you got Prince Fay at five. You got Pantry.
25:31
Speaker 8: You know Patrick can do all kind of music. Five
25:34
Speaker 8: forty five, you got Big TC, A young lady out
25:37
Speaker 8: of hunting to name Coco Wall.
25:38
Speaker 3: She's awesome.
25:39
Speaker 8: She's gonna go on stage about six o'clock, White Mike,
25:42
Speaker 8: right around six twenty. Then Duck City. I think we
25:45
Speaker 8: might have duck City on the show. Here about Land,
25:47
Speaker 8: I think you did. If not, you need to have
25:48
Speaker 8: them on the show. Okay, Duck City, I book it.
25:51
Speaker 8: Six forty five. Then you got the headliners. You got
25:53
Speaker 8: Yin Yang Twins at seven thirty, Walk a Flock at
25:56
Speaker 8: eight thirty, and The Baby at nine thirty. A really
26:00
Speaker 8: really dumb question, nothing's done. You know this one's gonna
26:03
Speaker 8: be done?
26:03
Speaker 3: Okay, how dumb.
26:05
Speaker 2: Back in the day, hip hop artists wanted to have
26:08
Speaker 2: tough sounding names like D m C and Dmax. And
26:12
Speaker 2: when did we kind of start going towards the baby
26:15
Speaker 2: and bad Bunny? When when did we kind of just
26:17
Speaker 2: change that? Now there's anything wrong with that, I'm just
26:19
Speaker 2: saying it kind of change.
26:21
Speaker 8: I think you had to change it because now we're
26:24
Speaker 8: in the digital stage and with algorithms and youtubes and
26:28
Speaker 8: and and tiktoks, if you notice, like the music was
26:32
Speaker 8: gangster rap back then and now it's coming more into
26:36
Speaker 8: pop hip hop. And it's okay because Spotify will pull
26:41
Speaker 8: your record if you talk about shooting somebody. Now YouTube
26:44
Speaker 8: don't allow guns and reaf for smoking bottles on on
26:48
Speaker 8: the on their platform. So I think we went through
26:50
Speaker 8: the and hip hop said, we went through the little
26:53
Speaker 8: like little bow Wow, little Wayane, little Zane, little everybody
26:57
Speaker 8: was little and now tell everybody like everybody little Brandy,
27:01
Speaker 8: little man.
27:03
Speaker 3: I said, Now we in the soft era, stright.
27:07
Speaker 2: So it's interesting how it's how it's progressed bad money.
27:09
Speaker 8: The baby the like we have in hip hop. We
27:12
Speaker 8: got dub Baby and we got baby So two different artists.
27:16
Speaker 2: And then years ago there was baby Face.
27:18
Speaker 3: Got baby Face.
27:19
Speaker 2: Yeah you know where he's from. Uh, No, I do
27:21
Speaker 2: not take a wild guess you're gonna tell me Charleston.
27:24
Speaker 3: No, I was gonna say Fort Wayne, we got a
27:27
Speaker 3: house at Fort Wayne.
27:28
Speaker 2: Okay, I didn't know that he was. I could talk
27:31
Speaker 2: you and I could sit and talk music all day
27:33
Speaker 2: especially But I think the one of the things that
27:35
Speaker 2: interests me about about the whole hip hop genre is
27:40
Speaker 2: it is truly a genre that is American. Most of
27:44
Speaker 2: our stuff, you know, I mean, like blue grass country,
27:47
Speaker 2: it came from other places. Now that's not to say
27:49
Speaker 2: that there weren't international influences in hip hop, but it
27:53
Speaker 2: was a it was a music that was born out
27:56
Speaker 2: of the streets. And it was also it's relatively new.
28:01
Speaker 2: I mean, you know, going back to mid nineteen seventy eight. Yeah, yeah,
28:05
Speaker 2: mid to late nineteen seventy So it's got that going forward.
28:08
Speaker 2: And it's also one of the only I'm getting really
28:12
Speaker 2: really deep here. It's also one of those things that
28:18
Speaker 2: it's not just a music. It is an entire culture.
28:21
Speaker 2: It's a lifestyle. And I mean I go back, I'm
28:24
Speaker 2: older than you. I go back to like in the
28:26
Speaker 2: nineteen eighty eighty one when the whole urban cowboy thing
28:29
Speaker 2: was out. Everybody was suddenly riding mechanical bulls and everybody
28:31
Speaker 2: was wearing cowboy hats and skin tag jeans whatever.
28:34
Speaker 3: That's kind of back now, So we had that.
28:36
Speaker 2: But this is when you talk about hip hop, would row,
28:39
Speaker 2: I mean, this is a this is an entire culture
28:41
Speaker 2: that goes beyond the music.
28:42
Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, it's a lifestyle. You got to live
28:44
Speaker 8: it like and it's not a bad lifestyle. And people
28:47
Speaker 8: try to put bad light on hip hop. I remember
28:50
Speaker 8: a long time ago, man, I had a boss I
28:52
Speaker 8: won't say his name. He's like, we could say hip hop,
28:55
Speaker 8: and I'm like, that's what we play.
28:58
Speaker 3: Why can't we say it?
29:00
Speaker 8: If we're playing and we people not dumba like, we
29:03
Speaker 8: can't say this doll poppy in Station on America now
29:05
Speaker 8: we play hip hop music and hip hop music. It's
29:08
Speaker 8: okay to play. It's safe. It's okay, guys, you can listen.
29:13
Speaker 8: And here's the crazy part about it, Dave. Now I'm
29:15
Speaker 8: getting deep. I DJ in a lot of places, not
29:20
Speaker 8: just nightclubs. I DJ country clubs. I DJ bar Mitzvahzz.
29:24
Speaker 8: We DJ big time weddings. I'm talking about thirty forty
29:28
Speaker 8: fifty sixty thousand dollars weddings. When we get a five
29:31
Speaker 8: thousand dollars tip, and guess what most of the playlists
29:35
Speaker 8: have on it.
29:35
Speaker 2: Hip hop, hip hop, hip hop. It's fun music, right
29:40
Speaker 2: and it is.
29:41
Speaker 3: You can get in a car right now and it
29:43
Speaker 3: might be Commissioner Selango.
29:45
Speaker 8: I've been in his car before, and I'm like, okay,
29:48
Speaker 8: I'll see your Commissioner.
29:49
Speaker 6: I see you.
29:49
Speaker 8: But I mean, look just look at the events we
29:53
Speaker 8: have at the Red carpet.

Speaker 3: We have all type of people.
29:57
Speaker 8: There are delegates, senators, judges, Supreme Court judges, crackhead thugs, everyone.

30:24
Speaker 2: to just radio. So we'll put you on Metro News television.
30:28
Speaker 2: I love you two o'clock hour this after And the
30:30
Speaker 2: cool thing is you don't even have to wear pants
30:31
Speaker 2: because nobody sees you from there.
30:33
Speaker 3: Oh I'm not.
30:34
Speaker 2: Wearing pants now right, don't stand up, don't stand up, No, no,
30:39

30:44
Speaker 8: All right, If you haven't got your ticket, I will

30:56
Speaker 8: Don't be kind of backed up, be patient or come early.
31:00
Speaker 8: And here's the thing that somebody else said on Facebook,
31:02
Speaker 8: just ride with somebody that carpool. We got about fifteen
31:06
Speaker 8: hundred spots at Shawnee parking spot. Then we got additional
31:10

Speaker 3: No smoking.

31:53
Speaker 2: This will be the first of many, I'm sure first
31:55

32:01

32:03
Speaker 2: but never anything as big as what you're doing. The
32:06
Speaker 2: show is the easy part. It's everything that least shut
32:08
Speaker 2: to the show, because once the once the curtain is up,
32:11
Speaker 2: there's it's out of your hands at that point.
32:14
Speaker 8: I tell my wife this. On Homu's Time with God,
32:15
Speaker 8: I tell my wife this. I can't wait till August second.
32:18
Speaker 8: I still why, she said. I said, Woody Festter be over.

39:28
Speaker 2: dot Com. Things in the News the lista Middleton case
39:32
Speaker 2: story by Daniel Woods posted this morning wv metronews dot com.
39:36
Speaker 2: The trial for the ambulance driver charged with running over
39:39
Speaker 2: and killing John Lucas is on hold now, according to
39:42
Speaker 2: Daniel's reporting. Judge Dave Hardy yesterday said he could not
39:46
Speaker 2: rule on a motion for a change of venue because
39:49
Speaker 2: the State Supreme Court hasn't ruled yet on a totally
39:52
Speaker 2: separate case where a change of venue was requested. So
39:56
Speaker 2: what I read into that, and according to Daniel's story
39:58
Speaker 2: that you can read a WV Metro News, Judge Hardy's
40:01
Speaker 2: basically saying once a decision comes out in that case,
40:04
Speaker 2: it will allow him to move on one way or
40:07
Speaker 2: the other for the change of venue in this case. Now,
40:09
Speaker 2: Alyssa Middleton, of course nineteen charged with voluntary manslaughter, aggravated
40:14
Speaker 2: the hicular homicide, and fleeing the scene of an accident
40:16
Speaker 2: causing death, all those felonies, that's all in the death
40:19
Speaker 2: of John Lucas in April. And because of all the
40:22
Speaker 2: attention that the case has gotten, not only in the
40:25
Speaker 2: media but in the world of social media, the attorneys
40:27
Speaker 2: for a list of Middleton are saying she simply can't
40:30
Speaker 2: get a fair trial here in Kanan County. They also
40:34
Speaker 2: ask for what's called a sealed venue, meaning that if
40:38
Speaker 2: a change of venue is granted, the public wouldn't know
40:41
Speaker 2: where the trial was moved to. Now, Judge Hardy did
40:44
Speaker 2: rule on that, saying that even if there is a
40:47
Speaker 2: change of venue everyone would know where it's changed too
40:50
Speaker 2: if it is, and it will be held in open
40:52
Speaker 2: court now. There are also still some questions about the
40:56
Speaker 2: medical examiner's report, which they don't have back yet, So
41:01
Speaker 2: what is next. Judge Hardy has scheduled another hearing September eleventh,
41:06
Speaker 2: but it could come sooner if the medical examiner's report
41:10
Speaker 2: is received before that time. And again, the story's posted
41:14
Speaker 2: at wv metronews dot com. Also, Jack Carlson has a
41:18
Speaker 2: story posted at the website. We told you about the
41:21
Speaker 2: meetings that were held about the Valley North transmission line,
41:23
Speaker 2: which could stretch from Putnam County to Frederick County, Maryland.
41:27
Speaker 2: Valleylink had two meetings yesterday, one in Sissonville at the
41:30
Speaker 2: middle school and one in Spencer and there are two
41:32
Speaker 2: more of this evening, one in PoCA at the high School,
41:35
Speaker 2: the other at the Green Center in Kenna, which is
41:37
Speaker 2: in Jackson County. Last night's meeting in Cistonville, which Jack
41:41
Speaker 2: attended and wrote about it at the website. Pictures too
41:43
Speaker 2: of the map. If you want to see what the
41:44

Speaker 2: five zero zero eight, And we do have a phone call.
45:44
Speaker 2: Let's talk to Bob. You're on the show. Good morning, sir,
45:47
Speaker 2: good morning.
45:49
Speaker 9: Don't be offended by this, Dave, but twice you did
45:55
Speaker 9: the news about the meeting on the power line. Uh
45:58
Speaker 9: huh at and you said it was at Cisonville Middle
46:03
Speaker 9: School in Sissonville. Cistonville Middle School is about seven miles
46:09
Speaker 9: from Cistonville. Actually closer to Charleston is Sisonville. But people
46:17
Speaker 9: on the radio station, the Charleston newspaper, and the TV
46:22
Speaker 9: stations have everything that happens around the corner there from
46:27
Speaker 9: Washington Street happening in Sissonville. And Cistonville is about a
46:32
Speaker 9: mile from the Jackson County line, about two hundred people.
46:37
Speaker 9: And believe me, nothing newsworthy has happened in Sissonville in
46:43
Speaker 9: the last fifty years.
46:44
Speaker 2: You know who you sound like, do you know, Delegate
46:47
Speaker 2: Dana Ferrell? Yeah, you sound like Dana Ferrel because that's
46:50
Speaker 2: what Dana Ferrell tells me all the time I went.
46:53
Speaker 9: I went to church with Dana Ferrell for several years.
46:58
Speaker 9: Dana's a good man. But yeah, if if you're giving
47:04
Speaker 9: the news to tell people where something happened, uh, Sistonsville
47:09
Speaker 9: Middle School seven miles Okay, Sistonville.
47:13
Speaker 2: Good point, Bob, and well taken, and I'll make sure
47:15
Speaker 2: I tell everybody else to build it. I appreciate your calling,
47:17
Speaker 2: appreciate listen, Bob, have a great day. Thank you all right,
47:21
Speaker 2: Something else quickly on my mind this morning in Putnam County.
47:25
Speaker 2: There was a lot of hooplah yesterday and it was
47:28
Speaker 2: announced that Texas Roadhouse is going to open in Tayese Valley.
47:32
Speaker 2: Of course, it's only got to be built, so it'll
47:34
Speaker 2: be next to you know, where the tays Valley exit is.
47:37
Speaker 2: Where uh, where the sleep in hotel is. That's where
47:40
Speaker 2: it's going to be built. That's also not in Sistonsville,
47:42
Speaker 2: by the way. That's that's tays Valley growth. Everyone's all
47:46
Speaker 2: jacked up about it. And look, I am not hating
47:49
Speaker 2: on it. I will eat there. They have steaks and
47:52
Speaker 2: they have beer, so I'll be there. Here's my thing, though,
47:56
Speaker 2: little editorial comment from me. And look, people like what
48:00
Speaker 2: they like. And again I like Texas Roadhouse as much
48:03
Speaker 2: as the next person, probably more. But I would love
48:07
Speaker 2: for people to share the same excitement over local restaurants,
48:13
Speaker 2: you know, the ones that are owned and operated locally
48:18
Speaker 2: with a corporate headquarters locally, not in Texas, New York,
48:23
Speaker 2: but actually here the tays Valley area has some wonderful restaurants,
48:29
Speaker 2: locally owned place. It's Fireside, Fairways, Prime eleanor Barbecue Barbarinos, Sergio's, Farley's,
48:38
Speaker 2: Taie Valley Kitchen, Hanks, Taste of Asia, m Rays, Billy Sundays,
48:43
Speaker 2: just to name a few. And I know I left
48:45
Speaker 2: some off, and uh, let me just state I am
48:49
Speaker 2: not against Texas Roadhouse. It'll be great for the county
48:52
Speaker 2: and it will employ a lot of people, and they're
48:55
Speaker 2: one and I love their steaks. I will eat there.
48:58
Speaker 2: I just yesterday was perusing social media and so and
49:04
Speaker 2: look in the elected officials. I love them, you know,
49:06
Speaker 2: Mayor Edwards and folks to Development Authority, Big economic because
49:09
Speaker 2: it's an employe a lot of people, and I love that.
49:12
Speaker 2: I love that employees people. Okay, so my issue is
49:15
Speaker 2: not with that. My issue is I just wish that
49:18
Speaker 2: And this is not this is not exclusive to Tays Valley.
49:21
Speaker 2: If the same thing happened. How many times you pick
49:24
Speaker 2: I've read this, here's what he said. Well, there's nowhere
49:26
Speaker 2: to eat in Charleston, are you? Are you kidding me
49:29
Speaker 2: that there's nowhere to eat, especially in downtown Charleston. And
49:33
Speaker 2: this is not me hating on corporations because I'm an
49:36
Speaker 2: ultimate capitalist next to TJ the ultimate capitalist in the world. Uh,
49:41
Speaker 2: And I love the fact that it's coming. I love
49:43
Speaker 2: the fact that it is going to uh employ a
49:45
Speaker 2: lot of people, and like I said, I'll eat there.
49:48
Speaker 2: I just wish that we would have the same the
49:55
Speaker 2: same excitement for local, locally owned restaurants, you know, the
50:00
Speaker 2: ones that actually support your little league teams, the ones
50:04
Speaker 2: that give your donations for your churches, that help out
50:08
Speaker 2: your civic organization, that sort of thing. And if we
50:12
Speaker 2: had that, maybe fifty percent of all local restaurants. I
50:18
Speaker 2: did the research, fifty percent of all locally owned restaurants
50:22
Speaker 2: go out of business in the first two to three years.
50:24
Speaker 2: Fifty percent support Texas Roadhouse. Please do. I'm going to
50:29
Speaker 2: hire people. I'm glad to have them there. But let's
50:31
Speaker 2: also try to share some of that love for local
50:35
Speaker 2: guys too. Just saying text, how dare you dog Texas Roadhouse? Meadows?
50:42
Speaker 2: Did I dog Texas Roadhouse in any way? I don't
50:44
Speaker 2: think you dogged it? No, he knew you were going
50:48
Speaker 2: to get a heat though the text says they blow
50:50
Speaker 2: the locals away. I said what I said, Well, okay,
50:53
Speaker 2: got there and ask for a donation for something, and again,
50:56
Speaker 2: maybe they do nonate because I know that organizations like
50:59
Speaker 2: Kroger do give a lot back to local communities. I do,
51:01
Speaker 2: and maybe they do as well. I'm not hating on
51:03
Speaker 2: Texas Road Out. I'm just saying I would love to
51:05
Speaker 2: when people have these discussions about restaurants. What we need,
51:08
Speaker 2: is this what we need? We have support local, Please
51:12
Speaker 2: just try it. Support locals. And in Tay's Valley I'll
51:17
Speaker 2: put I'll put I grew up Free Will Baptists. I'll
51:20
Speaker 2: put firesides. I'll put firesides fried chicken up against any
51:25
Speaker 2: fried chicken I've ever had anywhere, including including the Free
51:29
Speaker 2: Will Baptist Church. So there's that.
51:31
Speaker 5: My favorite restaurant, TJ's Borring Grill. Nobody does a file
51:34
Speaker 5: a like I.
51:35
Speaker 4: Do a file a.
51:36
Speaker 2: Look and again, I said, just something I was reading
51:38
Speaker 2: yesterday last night. I would just say, oh, thank goodness,
51:41
Speaker 2: we finally have someplace to eat. Yes, glad to have them.
51:44
Speaker 2: Theyor they're gonna employ a lot of people. They have
51:46
Speaker 2: great steaks. But we you've got plenty of great places
51:49
Speaker 2: that are already there.
51:50
Speaker 3: Give a little love, give it.
51:52
Speaker 2: To the people that are there. Just saying somebody, what
51:55
Speaker 2: you got coming up?
51:57
Speaker 5: Dave Cook from the Secretary of State's Office, We'll get
51:59
Speaker 5: into the issue with Pritt, try to bring some clarity
52:02
Speaker 5: to it.
52:02
Speaker 2: You're Ryah C.
52:02
Speaker 5: Comming School, Financial operations officer for the state of West Virginia.
52:06
Speaker 5: Stops by with information on central offices, Chris being President
52:10
Speaker 5: and CEO of First Energy on their power plant. Plus
52:13
Speaker 5: we'll talk to char at Helper and Fox News Fauci
52:16
Speaker 5: taking the fit I saw that. We'll talk with that,
52:18
Speaker 5: see what the White House thinks about that, and much
52:21
Speaker 5: much more.
52:21
