Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar's fans, welcoming to do vault daily presented by Jim Jack.com and fueled by brass tax coffee right now.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: Monday, August 17th, we are continuing talking about Jaguars and Saints a little bit here.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: Wanted to get into the players, whose stock is down, you know, some people say stock down, some people say losers.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, all those things kind of are really harsh to say, but it's players who I think did not help themselves in this first preseason game.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's something that I thought,
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: needed to be addressed need to be talked about we talked a little bit about it on the instant reactions but i wanted to dive a little bit deeper into it with a rewatch and all that stuff and then also wanted to highlight a couple more players that i didn't talk about on the you know players who shined type of show wanted to get this out before practice you know jacks have practice again today and then tomorrow and then the joint practice with the panthers so i just wanted
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: You know, have all my thoughts cleared.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll get this one in and get get out to the practice field.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: So really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, it's all jags all the time.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: Please like and subscribe.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: You can also hit that high button.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: So the players who I thought really did not help themselves at all, Nick Mullins.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: For every bad play, or every good play, I should say there was probably like one or two plays that were head scratchers.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the interception was absolutely horrible.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: You have your football team in scoring position at the very least you can get a feel goal and you throw an interception where you're trying to fit the ball down the seam.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: There's clearly a outside leverage defender and inside leverage defender.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: There's no way you can fit the ball in there, the placement that you had
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: If anything, maybe you could have tried a jump ball to the back of the end zone, there was no safety over the top.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: That maybe could have worked to a Josh Cameron, who's a big player with athleticism and strong hands and physicality and all that stuff.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: But the placement, just in the timing of it, did not make any sense.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: And really, it probably just should have been, you know, let's get to another read.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: Let's try to live another day.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: That was really disappointing for, you know, it's a veteran player.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: Not only in his second year in Jacksonville, but he's worked with Grant Yudinsky for a while.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's worked in these, you know, McVay tree systems, Channean tree systems for a while.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, if you're a guy like Nick Mullins who isn't overly athletic and doesn't have a big strong arm, like you've gotta be really, really on it.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: from a mental standpoint, and that was really disappointing.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then also, you know, the third and five where he took a sack, I'm not blaming him necessarily for taking a sack without the context of knowing that he's looking to his left.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: CJ Williams is coming across the field on a shallow cross or a drag in his line of vision.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's something you gotta see.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: He has a step on his defender if you put it out in front of him, he's probably getting the first down or at least fighting for that first down.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: Or at least maybe putting you in a position to maybe go for it, right?
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, fourth and short, I just think that
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: that combined with, you know, some other misses here and there.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't throw a lot.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think it was three of seven for 33 yards.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, he, to give him the credit as well.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he did have a few nice place converting the fourth and one, you know, hitting CJ Williams on a third down earlier in the drive, hitting Josh Cameron.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: rolling right.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: He did a couple, but like as a quarterback, if you only throw the ball seven times, you have like eight dropbacks and two of them are disasters.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's not good enough.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: It really isn't.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: So Nick Mullins, I don't think helped himself, especially when you consider Carter Bradley did a lot better.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he wasn't perfect in his own right, but he did some nice things.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of backups around the league that I do think would be better backups than Nick Mullins.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'll just say that.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: A couple corner racks that I thought did not help themselves at all, Cory Ballantine, and Christian Braswell.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: These guys win targeted in coverage, primary coverage is how it felt watching the game, but you can go and look at the stats at PFF and stuff like that.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: And when they were targeted in primary coverage, they just allowed a lot.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then Christian Braswell also missed multiple tackles, which, you know, coming back after not participating in a lot of team practice prior to this.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he had like a week or so, but yeah, just it wasn't, wasn't pretty, but Cory Valentine allowed a
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: 80 yards on six targets, four completions, average of 20 yards per completion.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was really, really pretty poor.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: And then Christian Braswell, he wasn't as bad in coverage of my opinion as Cory Valentine was.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: He did give up some space, he gave up some room, but also, you know, the missed tackles, I thought were a little bit bothersome.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, for Christian Braswell, but he allowed four catches on five primary coverage targets for 37 yards.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: So it was less about the yards, Braswell gave up and really more about the fact that
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: he was allowing an 80% completion percentage and missing tackles.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: So, but yeah, I thought some people were highly critical of jubbarmony homin.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: I put him as like showed promise, but there were mistakes, right?
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that that's absolutely fair.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: The one thing you can say about him is on his catches that he allowed, which was six,
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: He was only allowing 5.8 yards per catch.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: It was short, it was quick, it was on them like right when the ball got there.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, those couple corners, Corey Ballantine and Christian Braswell, I don't think Ballantine had much of a shot to make the active roster anyways.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: practice squad maybe in jeopardy now who knows and then Christian Braswell to me he's fighting for a roster spot.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jaguars are probably going to roll with five corners that's just my gut on that one with the way the roster is currently constructed in town at different positions and if that's the case I think Debar muhammed is ahead of Christian Braswell for that fifth spot.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: Offensive line
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: Jack Wars Offends of Lion Health is a big loser because you know you lose out on Tuma Doga who you already were down, Cole Van Land and Walker little and Patrick McCary hasn't been participating in team stuff.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: So when will those guys be healthy?
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know is Tuma Doga going to be able to come back soon.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully we'll find out more information about that in the next couple of days or so.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously I'll be out there on the practice field trying to figure out what's going on.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: If any of those Offends of Lion Man are able to practice
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: But the backups to the backups, which is really what it is.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Ricky Lee, Jim Tau, Obedegguo, Jaron Christian, Sam Moose to her.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: And look, Jaron Christian and Sam Moose to her.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: They just got here, like a week.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to have two weeks ago.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: They're pretty much brand new.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: And they're having to go out there and compete and a new offense and all that stuff.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: But it wasn't pretty.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: Ricky Lee has been here though, and he looks completely outmatched at guard and tackle.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: Obedegguo, having some troubles with the snap timing of things, drawing Christian had a little bit of trouble with that, and Sam Moost for I thought.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it was on the ground a lot.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: It was just, it did not look pretty for those.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I guess that's reasonable.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like these are guys that have literally like no shot to make the team, unless there's a ton of injuries, but it would not surprise me if the Jaguars try to get better at the, like, third for string depth that offensive line in some spots.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: Just because that was really unacceptable.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: They made it difficult on a lot of plays
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: They had pre-snap penalties.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: They got beat one-on-one like immediately.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: There was just a lot of issues there up front.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: And again, shouldn't be a major surprise when you consider these guys are like outside of the Jaguar's top 10 offensive linemen.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: Shouldn't be a huge surprise, but it is what it is.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: We will talk about some young offensive linemen.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: that will be on the team a little bit later on, but a couple more Parker used didn't play any defensive snaps at all.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguar 7th round rookie line backer.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that was a very interesting decision and curious a little bit about that one.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: And then Zach Durphy, he only had five defensive snaps.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: Another Jaguar 7th rounder.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: They just trying to hide those guys for the practice squad potentially.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: I had zactor if he making the active roster, the 53, but now they only got five defensive snaps.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of interesting.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: something I'm going to be monitoring, moving forward for sure.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: And one thing I was monitoring, the Jaguars, they were one and a half-point road underdogs, took them over at my bookie to cover, and they absolutely did.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: Got the win in a big way, 24 to 20.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully you did too.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm also looking at some season ahead type of stuff for 2026, the Jaguars are plus 106 to make the playoffs.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: I like that a good bit, and you can find all the action you want at my bookie on desktop or mobile.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: If you're new to the club, the betback bonus gives you protection on your first play.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: You can sign up with my promo code, Duval, that's all caps, DUVAL, opt into the betback bonus, and take your first shot with a safety net.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: If your first wager loses, you'll get it right back.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: No questions that asked, get in on all the action.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: at my bookie anytime anywhere that's my bookie code dovall so some players that I wanted to mention
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: that I do think played very well, that just didn't didn't get into the player's who stood out show just because of time constraints and full disclosure, like I was flying solo with the kiddo this weekend.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: So I just didn't have as much time as I normally would to kind of dive into everything.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: But Vintral Miller and Branson Combs boasted out in a positive way, I think I might have mentioned that.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: you know, brands and clones had a nice pass break up in this game.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: Both guys had some nice tackles, you know.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: Elephant in the room, first play of the game on defense, sprancing combs did shoot through a wide open gap and completely whiff, not only did he whiff on a ballcare here.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: He tripped, he got in the way of BJ Green, potentially being able to make the play.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: And then of course, Jibarman Hammond missed a tackle and the open field and the rest was history.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: Outside of that play for Branson Combs, he did very, very well, and I think ventral miller did his thing to come in downhill.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think both of these guys are still just in contention for reps.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think at this point, a lot of people think the same thing, but it's probably a situational type of deployment for both of these players.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I would think honestly with Branson Combs like,
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: If he plays well enough this year, you're probably just letting Ventra walk again, like you did definitely this year.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: Not quite the same situation, but remains to be seen exactly how to play out.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of my musings on it.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: On first watch, I didn't really notice him already burning.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't looking for him because he's a new guy back of the roster type of depth, really very little chance to make the roster.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen with these Jaguars like, if you give yourself a chance to make the practice squad, there is potential if you keep working and showing your metal to make the active roster and get called up and carve out a role for yourself, I thought I'm already burning and had a very strong game overall on the rewatch.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: So that's definitely somebody to keep an eye on moving forward, another player who's like brand new.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't talk much about special teams, obviously we talked about the kick coverage being suspect and that needs to work itself out.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: But Cam little shout out to Cam little, right?
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: Three of three, he made a 54 yard or made a couple.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: in between 30 and 39 yards had a really good day at an extra point made.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: So Cam little, it's just funny, like watching a 54 yard or looks so easy now.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even think of 54 yards as a long kick anymore, which is just bizarre.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: It really is a crazy world we're living in these days.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: Logan Cook looks super solid.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not truly like a spectacular outing, but he had three puns out of his five land inside the 20.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: You know, solid puns, it was just like you're you're pretty backed up and and that a 45 didn't allow any return yardage.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think that he did a really good job.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the special team's guys deserve love to.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the trio of offensive linemen that the Jaguars have drafted over the last two years when you look at last year, why am I alone?
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: John Amonheim, who I think
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: Ideally, would be playing while I'm at guard, joining them on I'm at center.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: They've had to do a little bit of cross-training due to injuries and different things, this training camp.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: And then this year with third round offensive linemen out of Oregon, Emmanuel Pregnant, then wouldn't come into me for a second.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think all three of those guys did pretty well.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think Pragnon was the most impressive.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like the way he was able to just, and he was going up against Christian Miller and some other guys.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: The way he was able to play with a wide base, which just played with a wide base, I think gives you a lot of balance.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: And then strike, use his hands.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he did a good job with,
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: block framing and just thought overall he really helped the Jaguars win this game and stay on the field and stay in on schedule.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: When it comes to why at my loom, there was a couple more plays that weren't like perfect, but it felt like his latch, his grip strength was really good.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: Once he got his hands on you, he did a good job, not really letting you do anything after that point, which is good to see.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: And then I thought that John Amani, I'm executed pretty much just fine on the ground a couple times, but
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: looked like he was doing his job as well at center.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that that is a promising trio for for the future and as depth for 2026.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: Grant Ydinsky did need to shout out Grant Ydinsky calling his first game from a play calling standpoint.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think he did a good job, pretty much every play.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: There was something there for the quarterback to get to from a passing
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: when you look at the run game, they got down hill, they were trying to execute with this offensive line that was makeshift at best.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like I mentioned, pregnant on and my loom and Monheim, they didn't play as much, right?
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think Pragnong got a little bit more than the other two, but they didn't play that much.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: You were working with a lot of the guys we mentioned that did not play well.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: So it was difficult to be consistent and all that stuff.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: But I thought Grant Udinsky did a good job getting points on the board, bouncing back from a tough start.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: Score in 24 points despite having two interceptions.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: Not bad, not bad in my opinion.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, congrats to Grant Edinsky.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: He's gonna try to keep that thing rolling forward.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: We've got practice here pretty soon.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: Gonna get out there on the practice field and report back here a little bit later on today.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: But really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all for great one.
