- 0:03Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Training Camp Cast. The Patriots Training
- 0:10Speaker 1: Camp Cast is your source for all the news from
- 0:13Speaker 1: Patriots Training Camp.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Well, I do still watch the news.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Practice is over, but the writers of Patriots dot com
- 0:19Speaker 1: have you covered?
- 0:19Speaker 3: What did I miss yesterday? Now here to review today's practice?
- 0:22Speaker 3: The writers of Patriots dot com.
- 0:25Speaker 2: All right, welcome into another edition of the Patriots Camp Cast.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Training Campcast, they should say, Paul, and today I felt
- 0:31Speaker 2: like drab Mayo spoke before practice kind of felt like
- 0:33Speaker 2: a challenge of defense a little bit.
- 0:34Speaker 1: He said.
- 0:35Speaker 2: You know, the offense has had a good couple of days.
- 0:36Speaker 2: We talked about it on yesterday's wrap up show, and
- 0:39Speaker 2: it felt today a little more evenly matched, but probably
- 0:41Speaker 2: a little bit more towards the defense. No question, the
- 0:43Speaker 2: offense had some moments, but overall, I would say defense
- 0:46Speaker 2: play a little bit more solid today, made things harder.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, I mean I would say so that said,
- 0:50Speaker 3: I still think the quarterbacks, both Bressett and may threw
- 0:54Speaker 3: the ball pretty well. I thought, you know, I thought
- 0:57Speaker 3: there were some plays to be made, and you know,
- 0:59Speaker 3: sometimes the receivers made them, sometimes they didn't. But I
- 1:01Speaker 3: would agree with you overall, coverage was much better to
- 1:04Speaker 3: say you didn't see guys running free.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Yeah, Timarrow, what's who stood out to you today?
- 1:07Speaker 1: Yeah. I liked how Mayo opened up and said, you know,
- 1:09Speaker 1: the offense responded well to the heat yesterday, but the defense,
- 1:12Speaker 1: like he said historically two days ago, that the defense
- 1:16Speaker 1: usually has a head start in camp. Jabrill Peppers yesterday
- 1:19Speaker 1: year guy Mike. He said, I like the way we
- 1:21Speaker 1: compete yesterday, but as a defender, they made too many plays.
- 1:25Speaker 1: So I think today I liked Hearn and I liked Hawkins.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I think both of them had a great days. A
- 1:30Speaker 1: couple pass breakups, but which are questionable because I thought
- 1:33Speaker 1: the wide receivers had a lot of drops today. They
- 1:35Speaker 1: did that a lot of drops today.
- 1:37Speaker 2: And we probably we've talked about the sloppiness in camp,
- 1:39Speaker 2: and I didn't. I think I saw maybe one pre
- 1:40Speaker 2: snap thing where it was a rehuddle, but there were
- 1:42Speaker 2: a number of drops today.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and they were fall starts. Again. There were situations
- 1:47Speaker 3: where I think the time management because you're starting to
- 1:49Speaker 3: see a little bit more of the two minute hunter.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Henry talked about it after practice. They're starting to get
- 1:53Speaker 3: a lot of that situational stuff involved in the practices
- 1:59Speaker 3: and probably the best hunter, Henry. The best play for
- 2:01Speaker 3: the team today was a last second diving touchdown catch
- 2:05Speaker 3: by Henry, who I thought, by the way, was very
- 2:07Speaker 3: good in this practice, but I thought it may have
- 2:10Speaker 3: been after the time it expired, So that's the kind
- 2:13Speaker 3: of situational stuff. The play before that, with the clock running,
- 2:17Speaker 3: is a short throw on the sideline, didn't really get
- 2:19Speaker 3: them all that much closer to the end zone, didn't
- 2:22Speaker 3: get out of bounds, and really created a sort of
- 2:24Speaker 3: hectic final play. Maybe they got the playoff in time.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Preset did a nice job of just floating one to
- 2:30Speaker 3: an area and allowing this tight end to go and
- 2:32Speaker 3: make a play diving catch by Henry.
- 2:34Speaker 2: You mentioned it was situational for my vantage point. I
- 2:37Speaker 2: looked up at the clock, two seconds left, clock running,
- 2:39Speaker 2: look back beat, couldn't tell for sure if they got
- 2:41Speaker 2: it off. But another session I just wanted to quickly
- 2:44Speaker 2: mention was I thought, you know Drake May's best period
- 2:46Speaker 2: of the day, which was red zone seven. On seven,
- 2:49Speaker 2: you had a touchdown to Jalen Polk, you had eighty
- 2:51Speaker 2: seven look like he dropped the TV, and then an
- 2:53Speaker 2: easy one to Baker, So you know, just some completions,
- 2:55Speaker 2: and again it's seven on seven, but I thought overall
- 2:58Speaker 2: that was Drake's strongest period of the dates.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Marit was that the one where they ended in the
- 3:02Speaker 1: fifty eight yard field goal. Maybe I can't remember, No, no, different.
- 3:06Speaker 2: One, No, I think that was that was earlier and
- 3:08Speaker 2: earlier eleven on eleven bit which was Joey Slid hit
- 3:11Speaker 2: a fifty eight.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, I thought definitely Drake May was better
- 3:15Speaker 1: in the seven on sevens. I feel like when they
- 3:16Speaker 1: were in the two minute kind of hurry up type
- 3:19Speaker 1: of offense, there were a lot of mistakes, miscommunication, throwing
- 3:22Speaker 1: the ball out of bounds, potentially sacks here and there.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I thought that definitely sped him up a lot, which
- 3:28Speaker 1: you know, that's something we were wondering in a real
- 3:31Speaker 1: game like setting, how is Drake May going to handle
- 3:33Speaker 1: all the time that they spent working on his technique. Yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 2: I think it was after the Hunter Henry touchdown, Drake
- 3:38Speaker 2: May went and didn't do much a throwaway, miss baker,
- 3:41Speaker 2: miss seven, sack and complete. I just wrote ick on
- 3:44Speaker 2: the last play.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Yeah, the two minute drills after Brissetts and Brissettes, I
- 3:48Speaker 3: mean to be fair, was kind of shaky, even though
- 3:51Speaker 3: it ended up in a touchdown. The other two series
- 3:54Speaker 3: it was it was May and then Joe Milton four
- 3:57Speaker 3: and out, so they didn't really get the ball moving all.
- 4:01Speaker 3: But I do think, like I said, and I know
- 4:04Speaker 3: there's been some sort of talk that we're not necessarily
- 4:07Speaker 3: covering May the way we should. It's kid gloves. I mean,
- 4:10Speaker 3: he made three or four throws today that I thought
- 4:13Speaker 3: were pretty good throws that didn't get caught, and one
- 4:14Speaker 3: of them was that one to Mitchell Willcox and you're
- 4:16Speaker 3: talking about I mean that was a tough throw in
- 4:19Speaker 3: traffic down the seam in the end zone, tight tight
- 4:22Speaker 3: windows down in the red zone, and you know Willcox,
- 4:25Speaker 3: so I actually think has been playing pretty well has
- 4:28Speaker 3: to make that catch for him. I thought there was
- 4:30Speaker 3: another one on the two minute drill and a nice
- 4:32Speaker 3: out route to Juju. He got his feet tangled up
- 4:35Speaker 3: with the defensive back and ended up falling down. The
- 4:37Speaker 3: pass was perfectly thrown, but you know, it looks like
- 4:41Speaker 3: one of those like, well, where was he throwing that one?
- 4:43Speaker 3: Because there was no one there to catch it. So
- 4:45Speaker 3: I thought May threw the ball well at times. But
- 4:47Speaker 3: to me, the story of the day was the pressure
- 4:51Speaker 3: from that front seven again was too much and there
- 4:53Speaker 3: were some guys out. No chukes today you had Vederian
- 4:57Speaker 3: Lowe staying at left tackle, Cayden Wallace at right tackle.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Those guys struggled. I thought Kayden Wallace in particular struggled
- 5:04Speaker 3: protecting the passers today.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Yeah, let's round out some of the personnel pieces today
- 5:07Speaker 2: because there were, you know, some new absences. You mentioned
- 5:10Speaker 2: Chusa Kora for Calvin Anderson, and now a Korfo was there.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I think we saw him there but just didn't participate.
- 5:16Speaker 2: But Calvin Anderson, who went down briefly yesterday with an
- 5:18Speaker 2: ankle injury, got back up, re entered the lineup. He
- 5:21Speaker 2: was missing probably not the biggest.
- 5:23Speaker 3: He had a sleeve on the lake. Yeah, so my
- 5:25Speaker 3: guess is dealing with something with his calf one Thornton.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Yeah, there he goes igguess kind of just what are
- 5:31Speaker 1: we doing here? Because I feel like it's the same
- 5:33Speaker 1: thing with him. He has a great camp and then
- 5:35Speaker 1: he disappears and you're just like, Okay, what's going on here?
- 5:37Speaker 1: So he did show up to practice a little bit
- 5:40Speaker 1: into practice, but he wasn't dressed. He was just on
- 5:42Speaker 1: the sideline. So I'm hoping it's nothing serious because he's
- 5:46Speaker 1: had a great couple of days and so now it's like,
- 5:48Speaker 1: hopefully he's not taking a step backwards with potentially an injury.
- 5:51Speaker 2: It's the same thing we talk about Paul. With these
- 5:53Speaker 2: young receivers, it's, you know, you got to stay out there,
- 5:55Speaker 2: you got to be consistent. I mean, Polk, Baker, those
- 5:57Speaker 2: guys have been out there every day, at least as
- 5:59Speaker 2: far as training camp.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Jalen Polk made some tough catches today. I don't know
- 6:03Speaker 3: if any of them really counted because you know, one
- 6:05Speaker 3: of them was in the back of the end zone,
- 6:06Speaker 3: he was out of bounds, and then one of them
- 6:09Speaker 3: was on a sideline on a quick, quick diving catch
- 6:12Speaker 3: on the sideline. They gave him credit for the catch.
- 6:14Speaker 3: I thought he caught it. But two really good catches
- 6:16Speaker 3: for Jalen.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Poll strong hands with him, Marcus Jones, Josh Bledsoe continue
- 6:20Speaker 2: to be out they come out and watch, you know again,
- 6:22Speaker 2: put Marcus Jones with Taekwon Thorton, and it's, you know,
- 6:25Speaker 2: just disappointing for these young guys, especially guys that have
- 6:28Speaker 2: been drafted in the past. Couple of years that have
- 6:30Speaker 2: the traits that this team needs, the speed, you know,
- 6:32Speaker 2: certainly with Marcus Jones, we've been excited to see him
- 6:34Speaker 2: get a chance to this new kickoff. He's now out,
- 6:37Speaker 2: so team will have a day off tomorrow, maybe a
- 6:39Speaker 2: chance for them to get a little bit healthy.
- 6:40Speaker 3: But it'd be a bad sign if you didn't see
- 6:43Speaker 3: Marcus Jones back on Monday. But I would say, you know,
- 6:48Speaker 3: when guys leave the lineup, it gives opportunities, and I
- 6:50Speaker 3: think Marcellus Dial has gotten some some more reps and
- 6:54Speaker 3: he's got some competitiveness to him.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:56Speaker 3: I think he's the guy that stands out to me
- 6:57Speaker 3: almost every day when.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Paul brings up opportunit. I think this is an opportunity
- 7:01Speaker 1: for Jalen Rager to show why he's valuable, not just
- 7:05Speaker 1: on offense, but on special teams. You've seen him in
- 7:07Speaker 1: there a lot returning those punts, so I think it's
- 7:10Speaker 1: an opportunity for him to potentially make it because he
- 7:12Speaker 1: can fill in from Arkis Jones.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Yeah, just one of the last guy I want to mention.
- 7:15Speaker 2: I thought number two kJ Olsbourne. I think some good
- 7:18Speaker 2: practices from catches today. In the end, zone. He's one
- 7:22Speaker 2: receiver that you know, feels like he's coming on. I
- 7:24Speaker 2: don't know for sure how he fits into the whole
- 7:26Speaker 2: big picture. Is he an outside He's probably not an
- 7:28Speaker 2: outside guy, And I think that's really what they need,
- 7:30Speaker 2: you know, to make this offense truly functional and lethal,
- 7:33Speaker 2: is to have somebody who can get downfield. I know
- 7:36Speaker 2: some people have been talking about Javon Baker, and I
- 7:37Speaker 2: don't want to pump the brakes on him, but I
- 7:39Speaker 2: think a lot of the buzz with him is coming
- 7:41Speaker 2: from one on ones in team periods. He's not very consistent.
- 7:44Speaker 2: He has some moments. I know today Drake May threw
- 7:47Speaker 2: one up. It just it didn't even look like he
- 7:48Speaker 2: had any separation. It wasn't even closed. So, you know,
- 7:51Speaker 2: so between him, between Taykwon Thornton, just some questions, I
- 7:55Speaker 2: would say, remain kind of a wide receivers.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Absolutely agree. Cool.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Well, we got a day off tomorrow and then we'll
