- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello everybody, and welcome to another edition of Cardinal Territory.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Jim Hayes along with my pal Kyle Gibson and Kyle.
- 0:14Speaker 1: The good news to start the day is we are
- 0:17Speaker 1: just two hundred and twenty from getting to seven thousand subscriptions.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We are getting close to seven thousand. We're insinctored with
- 0:27Speaker 1: the goal is seven k. So if you can help
- 0:29Speaker 1: us hit subscribe, if you've already described subscribe, tell some
- 0:33Speaker 1: friends about it and help us get to seven thousand,
- 0:36Speaker 1: and then we won't bother.
- 0:37Speaker 2: You about it anymore.
- 0:39Speaker 1: How about those?
- 0:40Speaker 3: And then what people don't realize is that and what
- 0:42Speaker 3: they don't realize is that when we get there, you're
- 0:44Speaker 3: going tarps off.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Let's go all right.
- 0:49Speaker 3: When you're gonna do this, must see. It might be
- 0:52Speaker 3: like a Thursday day game or a Monday day game.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Maybe you'll be at the park already.
- 0:57Speaker 3: That would actually be the best bit, Jim, if you
- 1:00Speaker 3: could have prepared a tarp's off video for Clint to
- 1:06Speaker 3: work right in seamlessly. As soon as that your bit
- 1:09Speaker 3: there gets over, hey subscribe like share, YadA, YadA YadA,
- 1:14Speaker 3: then we say we did it, and then Clint, Clint
- 1:17Speaker 3: cuts right there to your video of Jim Hayes standing
- 1:22Speaker 3: on the pictures mount a Bush Stadium tarps off, waving
- 1:26Speaker 3: it around.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I mean, I think we just we just got it
- 1:29Speaker 2: right there.
- 1:31Speaker 1: You should work in Hollywood. I don't know if that's
- 1:34Speaker 1: gonna be reality, but it certainly is a good storyline.
- 1:39Speaker 3: You said, here, listen, you're back pedaling real quick. I
- 1:43Speaker 3: didn't reverse the other day. I thought reverse, you're going
- 1:47Speaker 3: so fast.
- 1:49Speaker 1: No, you said the other day that there was backpedaling.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure. I said, if we get the seven
- 1:54Speaker 1: thousand over the next couple of day games, I'm sorry,
- 1:57Speaker 1: that's a couple of shows as a result of the
- 2:01Speaker 1: tarps off thing. I'd go tarps off, but someone will
- 2:05Speaker 1: check on that. But you know, we do have We
- 2:07Speaker 1: had tarps off at Bush Stadium. We had the Cubs
- 2:10Speaker 1: in ten, we had the ballpark rocket and the Cards
- 2:14Speaker 1: took two or three. I mean, that's the kind of
- 2:17Speaker 1: atmosphere that the Cardinals used to have, hope to have
- 2:22Speaker 1: in the future. But as a veteran player, how much
- 2:25Speaker 1: more fun is it when you're in an atmosphere like that.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Talk about seamless transition.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Wow, you transitioned away from tarps Off and Jim Hayes
- 2:34Speaker 3: so fast.
- 2:35Speaker 2: That was really good, really good, pretty good.
- 2:38Speaker 3: I obviously for the weekend. So I don't know what
- 2:45Speaker 3: the atmosphere was like, but I do feel like when
- 2:49Speaker 3: I see videos of tarps Off, this section is getting
- 2:52Speaker 3: bigger and as more people, and yeah, I think it's
- 2:56Speaker 3: probably getting a little roudier.
- 2:58Speaker 2: And I don't.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Necessarily think in my time of being in the big
- 3:01Speaker 3: leagues that that was the mo o of playing at
- 3:07Speaker 3: Bush Stadium, right, You weren't going in there to a
- 3:10Speaker 3: rowdy tarps Off crowd. So I think that's something that's
- 3:14Speaker 3: probably a pleasant, you know, a pleasant change for some fans.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Maybe maybe some fans don't like it.
- 3:21Speaker 2: But I can tell you.
- 3:22Speaker 3: A young team that's out there trying to find their
- 3:25Speaker 3: identity and keep their culture going. I bet this young
- 3:28Speaker 3: team loves it, and I bet they're probably embracing it
- 3:31Speaker 3: in a big way.
- 3:32Speaker 2: So you know, I think, I know it adds to it.
- 3:36Speaker 3: I know playing in those type of atmospheres is a
- 3:39Speaker 3: lot of fun, So I'm sure these young teams the
- 3:43Speaker 3: same things really enjoy them.
- 3:45Speaker 1: No, they absolutely love it. I mean, Mason Wynn loves it.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Herrera after his walk off the rowics he's going us
- 3:53Speaker 1: with the crowd of POSO. Did it look it's a
- 3:56Speaker 1: it's a it's a young tarps off crowd, although I
- 4:00Speaker 1: will say it's all shape, sizes and ages. There's some
- 4:03Speaker 1: older guys out there. Al Raboski went tarps off the
- 4:06Speaker 1: other day for the crowd. But they also do it
- 4:10Speaker 1: in right center and the bleachers right so, and they
- 4:14Speaker 1: haven't marked off that it's an energy section and they
- 4:17Speaker 1: want people to tarps off if they want and be loud,
- 4:21Speaker 1: but be respectful. And my experience by going up there
- 4:25Speaker 1: is everyone was pretty was you know, pretty respectful, and
- 4:29Speaker 1: there wasn't a lot of foul language. Every once in
- 4:32Speaker 1: a while some of the chants that they start a
- 4:35Speaker 1: little bit off color. Now here's the thing, though sometimes
- 4:38Speaker 1: it can backfire. I don't know how much you saw
- 4:40Speaker 1: this this weekend about Pete Crow Armstrong, PA had a
- 4:48Speaker 1: big game Saturday. He had four hits. He homered into
- 4:53Speaker 1: the tarps off section where they had just been chanting
- 4:56Speaker 1: overrated and then and then he ends the game with
- 5:02Speaker 1: a great sliding catch. So every once in a while,
- 5:05Speaker 1: but here's the thing, I hope you saw this video.
- 5:08Speaker 1: So Armstrong homers into the tarps off section and they
- 5:14Speaker 1: go to throw the ball back, and whoever with the
- 5:18Speaker 1: tarpsaw member arm wasn't strong enough to throw a ten
- 5:22Speaker 1: feet over the wall. He hits a cub fan who
- 5:25Speaker 1: ends up keeping the baseball. You gotta be better than that.
- 5:30Speaker 3: I saw the throw. I'm guessing it wasn't the best.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Wasn't the best I've seen. In all fairness, I've seen
- 5:38Speaker 3: first pitches from the mound look worse. So I don't
- 5:42Speaker 3: think it was the worst throw that has been made,
- 5:45Speaker 3: Probably not even the worst that has been made from
- 5:46Speaker 3: the seats, but it is. It adds a nice touch
- 5:51Speaker 3: when you throw a ball back and it makes it
- 5:52Speaker 3: to the field, adds a nice touch. That cubspan probably
- 5:57Speaker 3: really enjoyed it though, probably gave them a nice little
- 6:00Speaker 3: got your right back to.
- 6:01Speaker 1: You well hit him in the back of the head.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Then he ended up picking up the ball and showing
- 6:05Speaker 1: it off like a trophy. But I gotta say it
- 6:09Speaker 1: the bare minimum. If you're gonna attempt to throw the
- 6:11Speaker 1: ball back, you gotta get it on the field. Otherwise
- 6:16Speaker 1: give it to a friend, have a designated thrower. That
- 6:20Speaker 1: was a bad look. So the next thing I want
- 6:22Speaker 1: to ask you about. And you've you've seen villains a
- 6:26Speaker 1: plenty in Major League Baseball, maybe beloved by your team,
- 6:30Speaker 1: but villains for other fan bases. But Pete Crow Armstrong,
- 6:35Speaker 1: you know, he said some vulgar things to a fan
- 6:38Speaker 1: that said some vulgar things to him. I don't know
- 6:42Speaker 1: if he is as villainous as it seems a lot
- 6:47Speaker 1: of people like to vent the hatred toward him as certainly,
- 6:50Speaker 1: if you come to Saint Louis and you're a Cub,
- 6:52Speaker 1: you're gonna get some hatred. But tell me about Pete
- 6:55Speaker 1: Crow Armstrong. What's your view of that guy? Because to me,
- 6:59Speaker 1: he's a pretty exciting play.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I think he's He's a player that has, you know,
- 7:04Speaker 3: had a bigger personality seemingly I've never played with him,
- 7:08Speaker 3: obviously seemingly has a bigger personality and is in a
- 7:13Speaker 3: locker room that you know, I feel like has made
- 7:15Speaker 3: young guys pretty comfortable over the last couple of years
- 7:17Speaker 3: as they've come up. So it gave him some room
- 7:20Speaker 3: to be himself and and allowed him to show off
- 7:22Speaker 3: that personality. And anytime as an opposing player, if you
- 7:27Speaker 3: have that type of personality, and you're louder and you,
- 7:30Speaker 3: you know, play the game in a certain way, fans
- 7:34Speaker 3: are going to get on you. And also when you're
- 7:36Speaker 3: good and playing good on the other team, fans are
- 7:39Speaker 3: going to give you a hard time and they're going
- 7:40Speaker 3: to get on you. So, you know, I think he
- 7:45Speaker 3: seemed like at certain points in his career has looked
- 7:48Speaker 3: like an MVP caliber player and has looked like a
- 7:51Speaker 3: guy that changes the game.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Totally on defense.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Uh and when his offense is clicking and is hitting
- 7:57Speaker 3: for some power, which he's done, he's a game changing player.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I know he's had a few defensive mischews this year,
- 8:03Speaker 3: He's had a few other instances where it hasn't gone
- 8:05Speaker 3: his way. And if you're a louder personality and if
- 8:10Speaker 3: you're a personality that engages fans will in the tough times,
- 8:13Speaker 3: it's gonna be a.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Little bit worse.
- 8:15Speaker 3: And when you're having good days like Saturday, you can
- 8:18Speaker 3: you know, have a little bit of fun with it.
- 8:20Speaker 3: But I saw the situation in Chicago with the White
- 8:23Speaker 3: Sox fans. If nobody's if you have never been to
- 8:27Speaker 3: that part of I mean, I still call it kamiski.
- 8:30Speaker 3: It's not commistic obviously, I don't even know if it's
- 8:32Speaker 3: guaranteed raid anymore. It's probably a totally different name than
- 8:35Speaker 3: when I was there. But if you've never been to
- 8:37Speaker 3: that part of the White Sox's stadium, you have no idea, uh,
- 8:43Speaker 3: the access that fans have to players all the way
- 8:47Speaker 3: through the game. This is not a dugout whip from
- 8:51Speaker 3: the player. This is not you know, this is like
- 8:54Speaker 3: below the player on field level, able to yell and
- 8:59Speaker 3: see everything. And it's kind of a unique even like
- 9:03Speaker 3: below the field type. Some of the some of the
- 9:07Speaker 3: funniest and some of the worst things that I heard
- 9:09Speaker 3: at the same time in Chicago was at that stadium
- 9:13Speaker 3: when I'm warming up, because they're at your back when
- 9:15Speaker 3: you're warming up, you know.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Feet level.
- 9:18Speaker 3: So that's kind of a that's kind of a scenario
- 9:21Speaker 3: like some parks, that creates probably a little bit more
- 9:23Speaker 3: interaction issues, I would say. And let's face it, if
- 9:29Speaker 3: Pete engages fans, which I like to do whenever I
- 9:32Speaker 3: was warming up, you know, if a fan was yelling
- 9:34Speaker 3: at me. It happened in Wrigley many times. Gibson Bush
- 9:38Speaker 3: is going to take you deep in the first inning
- 9:40Speaker 3: and then you give them a look up. You say, well,
- 9:42Speaker 3: I guess we'll find out here in thirty minutes, won't we,
- 9:45Speaker 3: And you give them the interaction they want and they
- 9:46Speaker 3: normally laugh at you. But if you're a personality that
- 9:49Speaker 3: does that, it obviously opens you up to some negative
- 9:52Speaker 3: comments from here and there, and in the heat of
- 9:54Speaker 3: the moment, your emotions can get the best of you.
- 9:58Speaker 1: So give me the best interaction you ever had with
- 10:00Speaker 1: someone who was close by, a fan who maybe didn't
- 10:05Speaker 1: enjoy your team or didn't enjoy Kyle Gibson and was
- 10:08Speaker 1: giving you the business. And you can curse because someone
- 10:12Speaker 1: has to step in for Lance.
- 10:13Speaker 3: He's no, I'm not going to step in and take
- 10:15Speaker 3: Lance's three curse words of the.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Day the best. I don't know, see some of those.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Are hard to like figure out and remember exactly how
- 10:24Speaker 3: it went. Most of the time. It was like I
- 10:28Speaker 3: had to go in in Seattle. I can't remember who
- 10:30Speaker 3: the player was. It wasn't Julio, but the fan let
- 10:35Speaker 3: me know that you know, this certain player was gonna
- 10:37Speaker 3: take me deep. And I think I might have struck
- 10:41Speaker 3: him out once or twice. And obviously he doesn't see
- 10:44Speaker 3: me looking at him as I'm walking off the field.
- 10:46Speaker 3: You know, he's three hundred feet away, but he's obviously
- 10:49Speaker 3: not saying anything either. But you know, you end up
- 10:53Speaker 3: with a couple of interesting ones where you know, they
- 10:55Speaker 3: tell you that you know you're not going to last
- 10:57Speaker 3: out of the first inning, and they start yelling something
- 11:00Speaker 3: and I normally just laughed at him, normally smile at
- 11:03Speaker 3: him and give me, well, I don't know what tom
- 11:05Speaker 3: me say right now, but I guess we'll see here soon.
- 11:07Speaker 3: But you got to let me at least get to
- 11:09Speaker 3: the field before I can either prove you wrong or
- 11:11Speaker 3: prove you right. That was kind of how I always
- 11:13Speaker 3: looked at it.
- 11:15Speaker 2: You know, I had one.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Person in the city field say something about my mom
- 11:20Speaker 3: once during VP.
- 11:23Speaker 2: That wasn't too kind of them.
- 11:25Speaker 3: I mean it was it was over the top anytime
- 11:27Speaker 3: they talk about your mom or your family or your kids.
- 11:30Speaker 3: But you know, it was more of just a moment
- 11:33Speaker 3: where you turn around, You're like, really, that's where you're
- 11:35Speaker 3: going to go here in the middle of batting practice
- 11:37Speaker 3: at five thirty in the afternoon. That's the trash talk you're.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Going to say.
- 11:43Speaker 3: But you know there was some good ones, you know,
- 11:46Speaker 3: Yankee Stadium was always fun. I've heard a couple of
- 11:49Speaker 3: people use this where Yankee Stadium. They're over top of you,
- 11:52Speaker 3: and you know, I've had a couple of teammates just
- 11:54Speaker 3: turn around and thank him for buying a ticket to
- 11:56Speaker 3: our game, and I hope they enjoy watching us play.
- 11:59Speaker 2: That's always a good one.
- 12:00Speaker 3: And then they then then Wally say, well, I got
- 12:02Speaker 3: my ticket for free, and You're like, well, no, there's
- 12:04Speaker 3: no way you got a nice bleacher seat ticket for free.
- 12:07Speaker 2: So you know, there's always a lot of different interactions
- 12:10Speaker 2: that have been a lot fun.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Well, Skip Schumacher and the Texas Rangers come to town. Skip, obviously,
- 12:16Speaker 1: former Cardinal World Series champion, was on Ali Marvel's staff.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Now he is the He was the manager of the Marlins,
- 12:23Speaker 1: now he's managing the Rangers. De grom goes against McGreevy tonight,
- 12:29Speaker 1: and that takes us to our daily dinner segment. Now,
- 12:33Speaker 1: the Graham's a pretty good pitcher. Cardinals haven't necessarily faced
- 12:38Speaker 1: him very much if you go better versus pitcher, So
- 12:41Speaker 1: I'm just gonna throw out mine because I think he's due.
- 12:45Speaker 1: All right, you can go by the way and do
- 12:48Speaker 1: this for yourself. Get your free pick in go to
- 12:51Speaker 1: a FanDuel dot Com slash podcast and you can make
- 12:55Speaker 1: your free pick. I'm going with Burlison. Been a bit
- 12:59Speaker 1: of slump, just righty, lefty, I get all that. I'm
- 13:04Speaker 1: just going Burlesson as my pick for Daily Dinger. Your
- 13:08Speaker 1: thoughts and pick your own.
- 13:11Speaker 2: I'm I'm going with my guy JJ Weatherholt. Uh.
- 13:14Speaker 3: He's been a spark at the top of the lineup.
- 13:17Speaker 3: I think he's due for one here. I think the
- 13:20Speaker 3: last time I predicted him, I predicted one early in
- 13:22Speaker 3: the game. Uh, he's never seen the groam. So I'm
- 13:27Speaker 3: gonna give him maybe his second bat to to maybe
- 13:31Speaker 3: get to Graham and to take him deep tonight. So
- 13:35Speaker 3: you know, de Grom's a guy, he's still still really
- 13:38Speaker 3: really good. And you know, if you can get to
- 13:40Speaker 3: him early and give him a grievy a lead, then
- 13:42Speaker 3: you got a chance to to take this first game
- 13:45Speaker 3: against you know, their their best guy. So it'd be
- 13:49Speaker 3: really good if if JJ and Burley can can get
- 13:51Speaker 3: something on the board here and and get a little bit.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Of a lead, you ever face the grin because that guy,
- 13:56Speaker 1: I mean, he's been good this year, he was good
- 13:59Speaker 1: last year. Not even close to how dumb and he
- 14:02Speaker 1: was early on, and he's still very very good.
- 14:06Speaker 3: I did my first ever sacrifice punt was against Jacob
- 14:09Speaker 3: d Grom, got it down. He I feel like he
- 14:13Speaker 3: did me a favor by throwing me sliders and not
- 14:16Speaker 3: the ninety eight monitar cheese.
- 14:19Speaker 2: And then I'm pretty sure I struck out the second time.
- 14:22Speaker 3: But yeah, first ever sacrifice punt Jacob d Grom down
- 14:26Speaker 3: the third base line. Had I ran hard, I probably
- 14:29Speaker 3: would have beat it out because he took his time
- 14:32Speaker 3: checking the.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Runner going to third. But I didn't run hard, so
- 14:37Speaker 2: he got me out by a couple of steps.
- 14:39Speaker 1: It's a lesson for all of us.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Not proud of it, way you not proud of it,
- 14:42Speaker 2: but I did it.
- 14:44Speaker 1: You two can swing for the fences with fan duel
- 14:47Speaker 1: and official partner of Major League Baseball art Daily Dinger
- 14:52Speaker 1: Picks Burley and JJ Weatherhole.
- 14:56Speaker 4: No purchase necessary, opt in required, bonus issued as non
- 14:59Speaker 4: withdraw all profit boost tokens. Restrictions apply, including any token
- 15:03Speaker 4: expiration and max wager amount. See terms at sportsbook dot
- 15:06Speaker 4: FanDuel dot com. Gambling problem caller tax one eight hundred gambler.
- 15:10Speaker 1: All right, that brings me to our next topic. Kyle,
- 15:13Speaker 1: and I know if you noticed, but Jay, Jimmy Crooks
- 15:17Speaker 1: promoted from Triple A, and Poso, who was kind of
- 15:21Speaker 1: beloved because he came up with so many big hits
- 15:23Speaker 1: off the bench, sent to Memphis. So now the Cardinals
- 15:28Speaker 1: have three catchers who could be every day catchers, and
- 15:31Speaker 1: they're gonna parcel out the time behind the plate as
- 15:34Speaker 1: best they can. As I understand it, Horrera will keep
- 15:37Speaker 1: the guys he was catching, Crooks will add some of that,
- 15:42Speaker 1: and po Has will keep a couple, but it seems
- 15:44Speaker 1: like his role will be reduced as that. I think
- 15:47Speaker 1: the Cardinals front office is thinking, we got we gotta
- 15:50Speaker 1: juice the offense here, and Crooks was putting up really
- 15:53Speaker 1: really solid numbers at Memphis. If you have three catchers,
- 15:59Speaker 1: you know, all of whom could be an everyday type catcher.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Is that too much?
- 16:04Speaker 1: They kind of playing with fire here the Cardinals.
- 16:09Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 16:10Speaker 3: I mean, I think it looks it depends on how
- 16:12Speaker 3: the rest of your roster construction looks.
- 16:15Speaker 2: You know.
- 16:15Speaker 3: I feel like you have two guys and Paes and
- 16:17Speaker 3: Kirks who probably aren't playing another position, which you know,
- 16:21Speaker 3: might help, you know, if they were possibly at first
- 16:24Speaker 3: basement or something like that, that kind.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Of limits you a little bit.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Uh. If you have other utility players that can spread
- 16:31Speaker 3: out around the field and play other positions, then you know,
- 16:33Speaker 3: you can kind of hide that a little bit and
- 16:35Speaker 3: you don't need the infielder or the outfielder. You know,
- 16:39Speaker 3: Sejacion for me can kind of move around.
- 16:43Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 16:43Speaker 3: I mean, I think it'd be interesting. I think if
- 16:46Speaker 3: we know one thing about what him and the front
- 16:49Speaker 3: offic is doing here is they're kind of sticking to
- 16:51Speaker 3: their plan and they're gonna, you know, do what they
- 16:53Speaker 3: think is best.
- 16:54Speaker 2: For the development here going forward.
- 16:56Speaker 3: And if Crooks is here, it's because that's part of
- 16:58Speaker 3: the plan for him to get some Big League of
- 17:01Speaker 3: bats and play. I don't think it does him any
- 17:04Speaker 3: good to sitting on the bench and not swing it.
- 17:07Speaker 2: He's swinging a hot.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Bat, So you're gonna get him in there and you're
- 17:09Speaker 3: and you're gonna see what he can do here for
- 17:11Speaker 3: a few weeks or however long, you know, maybe it's
- 17:13Speaker 3: the rest of the season, who knows, But I don't
- 17:17Speaker 3: think they accelerated his call up or did anything different
- 17:22Speaker 3: outside of the plan than they had going into the season,
- 17:26Speaker 3: because like the trade deadline acquisitions or trading guys away,
- 17:30Speaker 3: you don't necessarily shift your whole mindset here. I would
- 17:34Speaker 3: shift my mindset, but I don't believe you guys think
- 17:37Speaker 3: they're gonna shift their mindset here just because you're playing well.
- 17:41Speaker 3: So I'm guessing, you know, Crooks was a guy that
- 17:44Speaker 3: you know, they were eyeing in spring training to say, hey,
- 17:46Speaker 3: let's see if he if his abs are you know,
- 17:48Speaker 3: really good in triple A, and see if we can
- 17:50Speaker 3: get him up here to the big leagues and get him,
- 17:53Speaker 3: you know, into the mix so that next year, you know,
- 17:55Speaker 3: he's got that experience and make them make a big difference.
- 17:59Speaker 1: So they also have two catchers and the miners who
- 18:01Speaker 1: are really really good that are prospects. So I mean
- 18:05Speaker 1: right now that they have an abundance of talent behind
- 18:08Speaker 1: the plate, which a lot of teams don't have barely any.
- 18:12Speaker 1: So that's obviously some of you figure maybe the Cardinals
- 18:14Speaker 1: will cash in for other areas of need. When you pitched,
- 18:18Speaker 1: did you ever have a catcher that you favored that
- 18:21Speaker 1: would catch you maybe more than he caught other guys
- 18:24Speaker 1: or one guy that you just felt more comfortable with.
- 18:28Speaker 3: No, never had never had a personal catcher. Honestly, I
- 18:33Speaker 3: would kind of give uh. I would give Real Muta
- 18:37Speaker 3: a little bit of trouble in Philly because it seemed like,
- 18:41Speaker 3: and I love throwing the Garrett Stubbs. So this is
- 18:43Speaker 3: not a knock on Garrett Stubbs. Stubby knows that I
- 18:46Speaker 3: love him and he is awesome behind the dish. But
- 18:49Speaker 3: I would always give j T trouble because it seemed
- 18:51Speaker 3: like if I was throwing the day game, that was
- 18:52Speaker 3: the day that JT wouldn't catch. So, you know, Stubby
- 18:55Speaker 3: was my personal guy. As how we would talk about it,
- 18:59Speaker 3: you know there. I think it's interesting how certain catchers
- 19:03Speaker 3: and pitchers work together for whatever reason. You know, I
- 19:08Speaker 3: enjoyed throwing the McCann and Rutchman in Baltimore. Seemed like
- 19:13Speaker 3: there were times where I threw to McCann more for
- 19:16Speaker 3: whatever reason, whether that was just you know, being a veteran,
- 19:19Speaker 3: and you know he had faced me a lot of
- 19:21Speaker 3: times in the American League Central, so they maybe thought
- 19:23Speaker 3: that that was a good connection to have and have
- 19:25Speaker 3: somebody who's seen how my pitches have been good and bad,
- 19:29Speaker 3: so that maybe he can make those adjustments on the
- 19:31Speaker 3: days where maybe my slider or change ups not as good.
- 19:35Speaker 3: But I was so fortunate, Jim to have some amazing
- 19:38Speaker 3: catchers behind the plate in my career, like you know,
- 19:42Speaker 3: even in Texas. You know, Okay Jose Trevino who won
- 19:46Speaker 3: a Platinum Glove two years after I was gone from Texas.
- 19:49Speaker 3: He wanted to New York. Our backup Jonah him. He
- 19:53Speaker 3: won a gold Glove like a year or two after
- 19:55Speaker 3: I was out of there too. So I was really
- 19:58Speaker 3: fortunate that even the starting catchers, in the backup catchers
- 20:01Speaker 3: both where I played, they were so good that nobody
- 20:04Speaker 3: on the staff was worried about, oh I got this
- 20:07Speaker 3: guy because they're given Wilson a day off or whatever
- 20:11Speaker 3: it might have been.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Well, I think to this point credit only Marmal because
- 20:16Speaker 1: he's done a great job. I think of Battling saying
- 20:19Speaker 1: out where guys play and when he's gonna switch it
- 20:22Speaker 1: out and get to look at some other guys. And
- 20:25Speaker 1: the Cardinals have a big series with the Rangers, and
- 20:27Speaker 1: that's gonna do it for this edition of Cardinal Territory.
- 20:31Speaker 1: We'll see you for the next edition and hopefully that
- 20:33Speaker 1: one won't suck
