- 0:00One of the greatest troublemakers of all time was Sigmund Freud,
- 0:03and he did ask though a very important question. He asked, what do
- 0:08women want? Never really gave a good answer
- 0:11to that question. I'll say this much, whatever it is that women want
- 0:15now, I think that most of them don't have it because they seem
- 0:19to me to be by and large very unhappy.
- 0:24And I think hear me out. I think I
- 0:28might know where to look for an answer to that. I think I might know
- 0:32why they're unhappy. Stay with me, got a story to tell.
- 0:35Hi, I'm Jesuit Father Robert McTeague, your host every day of The Catholic Current,
- 0:39coming to you from the Station of the Cross Catholic Media Network. Let's take
- 0:43a closer look. Glad you're here.
- 0:45If you want to have multiple lifetimes worth of reading on your
- 0:49reading list, just type in the words why are women unhappy today?
- 0:53And Google will give you millions and millions of years worth of explanations
- 0:58as to why women are so unhappy today. Well, what would
- 1:02make women happy? Well, if you believe American popular media, which I don't recommend,
- 1:06uh, American popular media would tell you that women will be happy
- 1:10if and only if they
- 1:13have more and, of course, free contraceptives
- 1:18and abortions, fewer or no children,
- 1:22more and free daycare, more and better paid work in a government-secured
- 1:26work environment marked by diversity,
- 1:29equity, and inclusion, if they can
- 1:33spend more time away from home and family, if they can have more and
- 1:37easier divorce. If they have all those things,
- 1:41then only then will women be
- 1:45happy? Or said another way,
- 1:48without those things, they can't possibly be happy.
- 1:51That's what American popular media would have us believe. And you
- 1:55know what? Let's put this to the test. Close your eyes.
- 1:59We'll do a little thought experiment. Think of the women you know who contracept,
- 2:05women who've had abortions, women who have children
- 2:08in daycare, who work outside of the home at least 40 hours
- 2:12a week, how many of them would you describe as happy,
- 2:17flourishing, thriving,
- 2:20peaceful, empowered?
- 2:25Hmm. Let's raise the stakes. How many women do you know who have filed for
- 2:29divorce reporting marital dissatisfaction who
- 2:33now describe themselves as satisfied?
- 2:38You can let me know in the comments below or write me at thestationofthecross.com/askfather.
- 2:43Here's my point: I think women have been sold
- 2:47a bill of goods for a really long time.
- 2:52They seem to be at odds with themselves, at odds with men,
- 2:55at odds with nature, and odds with God. Uh,
- 2:58things that should should fit,
- 3:03things that should make sense.
- 3:07That doesn't seem to be happening. Rather,
- 3:10things are being torn apart.
- 3:13Things are being sundered. What do I mean by that?
- 3:16Well, female from male.
- 3:21Men and women, you don't have to think about it very long to figure
- 3:24out, at least apparently, it looks like they belong together.
- 3:28Um, and if you think about it,
- 3:32uh, sex and fertility should belong together.
- 3:35If you think about it, sex and marriage should
- 3:39belong together. Children and family should belong
- 3:44together. And yet women
- 3:48are told that they can't be happy unless and until
- 3:53men are separated from women,
- 3:57or better said, are opposed to one another.
- 4:02And they can only— once they're empowered by telling everyone
- 4:05the female is— the future is female,
- 4:09see, all that sort of thing. So they're being told that. They're told that,
- 4:12no, we don't need to have sex related to marriage. We certainly
- 4:16don't want to have sex related to fertility. Pills, pills,
- 4:19pills, surgery, go live happily ever after. And it hasn't
- 4:23worked out. Why not? Because there are certain things that should be
- 4:27together and are being torn apart. I've been thinking about that.
- 4:31There is a word in biblical Greek that indicates
- 4:36a tearing apart which should be
- 4:39together. It's called diabolain.
- 4:44Diabolain, diabolos,
- 4:46diabolic. Oh,
- 4:50so maybe I'm willing to consider other options, but maybe
- 4:54one of the reasons that so many women
- 4:58are so unhappy, as evidenced
- 5:03by their constant psychotropic medication and their boundless
- 5:07enthusiasm for abortion and child murder and infanticide,
- 5:11at least for those who are getting the big hits on TikTok and
- 5:15Instagram and whatnot, Maybe it's because they are
- 5:19being torn apart by a spiritual
- 5:23enemy who is not only an enemy of
- 5:27human nature, but the divine nature as well.
- 5:31So for all the political solutions,
- 5:34if only we have more of this, if only we have more money,
- 5:38if only we have more equality, if only we have more of this and less
- 5:41of that, I don't think any of it is
- 5:45going to work unless and until we look
- 5:48at the spiritual roots, the diabolical
- 5:53origin of women being torn apart
- 5:57from their own human nature, their own distinctively
- 6:03God-given feminine human nature.
- 6:09It's a shocking proposition these days. It would probably
- 6:12get me thrown off a lot of college campuses, but I want to know what
- 6:16you think. Let me know, uh, in the comments below.

- 6:23I want to continue this series on why women are
- 6:27in such difficulty, why they are in distress, why so
- 6:32many of them are so unhappy. And why so many of
- 6:36them seem to be driven to a murderous rage.
- 6:41We can't remain silent about this anymore. Meanwhile,
- 6:44think of these things today, take them to prayer, and talk about it
- 6:48with those you love. Go in peace, and please do pray for me,
- 6:51for I am a sinner.
