Latest / Mount Eaton Church / Biblical Manhood & Womanhood - 1 Timothy 2 - Foundations of Biblical Womanhood
Transcript
- 0:00This is the ladies day.
- 0:17We've started us, really started walking through what biblical manhood and biblical womanhood
- 0:22is.
- 0:23Through this process we will also be hitting other topics because everything that we'll
- 0:28be preaching on, every letter doesn't really just deal with just manhood and womanhood,
- 0:33but this is good for all Christians.
- 0:37I want us to read 1 Timothy chapter 2.
- 0:41So let me get there.
- 0:441 Timothy chapter 2 deals with two particular issues.
- 0:48One is the issue of the importance of prayer and especially men praying.
- 0:52So they'll get a little bit of challenge.
- 0:56And then we start to really deal with the importance of complementarianism.
- 1:01So before we get started let's pray.
- 1:02Father I want to thank you that you are good, you are faithful, you are true.
- 1:07We thank you that your word is living and active.
- 1:12Lord that your word is perfect.
- 1:16We thank you that through divine preservation you have kept your word in translation for
- 1:21us and that we can fully depend on your word.
- 1:26And Lord that your word gives, has everything for life and godliness for us.
- 1:32So Lord we ask that you would be honored and glorified today.
- 1:35I pray that the full counsel of your word is spoken and taught and that we have prepared
- 1:39your hearts to rightly divide, prepared our hearts to rightly divide it and that you would
- 1:44be honored and glorified in every way in Jesus name, amen.
- 1:49First of all then I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be
- 1:56made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions.
- 2:03That we may lead a peaceful and quiet life godly and dignified in every way.
- 2:09This is good and it is pleasing in the sight of God our savior who desires all people to
- 2:15be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
- 2:19For there is one God, there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus
- 2:27who gave himself as a ransom for all which is the testimony given at the proper time.
- 2:34For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle.
- 2:38I am telling the truth.
- 2:40I am not lying.
- 2:41A teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
- 2:45I desire then that in every place the men should pray lifting holy hands without anger
- 2:54or quarreling and likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel
- 3:01with modesty and self-control not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly attire but
- 3:09with what is proper for a woman who professes godliness with good works.
- 3:15That a woman learn quietly with all submission.
- 3:18I do not permit a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man rather she is to remain
- 3:23quiet for Adam was born first than Eve and Eve was not deceived but the woman was deceived
- 3:31and became a transgressor yet she will be saved through childbearing if they continue
- 3:38in faith and love and holiness and self-control.
- 3:43What a controversial scripture.
- 3:47Not controversial to god.
- 3:48You are like oh pastor you are starting off on a really bad note right now among the women.
- 3:54Actually when we get through this you are going to be like wow.
- 3:58Actually that is pretty amazing and that is the point.
- 4:02This is not god like beating the women over the head like submit.
- 4:06This is not that.
- 4:08So before we get started we need to go through verses 1 through 8 and I am going to give
- 4:13you some clear concise words so that you understand what some of these words mean.
- 4:18I already taught on this so if you get a chance you can always go to I think it was July 4th
- 4:26message last year either way.
- 4:30First thing I want to give you is god commands this is the principle.
- 4:33God commands all his people to pray especially men to set the example of a dependent and
- 4:40surrendered life.
- 4:42Especially men or to set the example of a dependent and surrendered life to god.
- 4:50Dependent upon god and surrendered holy to him.
- 4:55Praying at all times in the spirit with all prayer and supplication to that end keep alert
- 5:01with all perseverance making supplication for all the saints.
- 5:05Ephesians 6.18 why is it important to pray?
- 5:09That's another scripture to support what Paul is saying to Timothy.
- 5:14Rejoice always pray without ceasing.
- 5:17Give thanks in all circumstances for this is the will of god in Christ Jesus for you.
- 5:24First Thessalonians 5.16-18.
- 5:28There is a necessity and it's a command.
- 5:31So what does god say here to Timothy in chapter 2 verse 1-8.
- 5:38First of all then I urge I call I summon you Timothy that's what he's saying here.
- 5:46I urge I call I summon that supplications.
- 5:52Supplications is seeking or asking of needs very important.
- 5:57Seeking or asking of needs.
- 6:00So when you are praying are you are you we are summoned to seek and ask of needs very
- 6:08important.
- 6:09So when we're looking at supplications we're looking at the issue of seeking and asking
- 6:14of needs.
- 6:15Second the third is second is prayers.
- 6:19Prayer is an address set apart to god.
- 6:22So when you go before him you are setting apart an address you are having that statement
- 6:29that you want to share that's set apart to him.
- 6:33So when we pray Jesus taught the disciples to pray he said teach us to pray.
- 6:38He says when you pray pray like this our father who is in heaven holy is your name.
- 6:46That is a that is a particular address that is set apart to god.
- 6:52He there is a intentionality of expressing the greatness and the glory and the power
- 6:59and the might to him.
- 7:01Okay.
- 7:02That's what it means by prayers.
- 7:04So when you're when you're giving supplication you're asking and seeking the needs of others
- 7:10and yourself when you're praying you are giving god what is rightfully his.
- 7:16Intercessions is the third word here.
- 7:18Intercessions means falling in with coming together with or agreeing with.
- 7:24Who are you falling in with coming together with or agreeing with.
- 7:28You're agreeing with his word.
- 7:31So if you ever go to a church and you're like I agree with you in Jesus name agree with
- 7:36what.
- 7:39Can you tell me what I need to agree with.
- 7:42Well I agree that you're going to be healed in Jesus name.
- 7:46Give me a Bible verse.
- 7:49Give me a Bible verse.
- 7:51Tell me what am I agreeing with what healing.
- 7:54So there is an important thing that we need to understand.
- 7:57We're not agreeing with each other just to agree.
- 8:01People in government agree all the time but it never there's a lot of times they don't
- 8:05get things right.
- 8:07Agreeing with you doesn't mean it's right.
- 8:09The issue of intercession is I am coming and I'm agreeing according to the word of God
- 8:15what is best for you and best for others.
- 8:18It's what God's word says.
- 8:20I am falling in line with God's word and I am agreeing with with you and with him that
- 8:26he is right.
- 8:28That's what this means.
- 8:29So when you make an intercession you're agreeing on behalf of God and them that God is right.
- 8:35And then he says and thanksgivings.
- 8:37Well that's pretty simple.
- 8:39Give thanks.
- 8:41So if we are called and summoned to God to seek and ask needs to give God what he's due
- 8:47to him in our address to him if we are coming together with him and with others agreeing
- 8:54with his word then you can say give thanks.
- 8:58A perfect example of that whether Cliff even realized it or not is what Cliff said.
- 9:05And we can agree that God will be with us in our suffering.
- 9:12He promises that.
- 9:14Now that's agreeing with the promise.
- 9:16Now these things intercessions supplication prayer intercessions and thanksgiving be made
- 9:23for all people for every people right for kings and all who are in high positions that
- 9:32we may lead that word lead means live a peaceful this word peaceful is tranquil meaning that
- 9:39I am I am alone in a quiet place.
- 9:42I don't have I don't have no worries no distractions.
- 9:46That is the type of peaceful lives that God is calling us to and quiet.
- 9:51All right.
- 9:53Hey hey hey Sue chaos.
- 9:58Hey Sue chaos meaning immovable in or to hold or to have hold of Christ that in my quiet
- 10:07I am holding on to Jesus.
- 10:12When you when you are in a storm Christ is your anchor.
- 10:18Okay.
- 10:19This life godly and dignified in every way this this type of life that we should live
- 10:26should be godly and dignified in every way if we are living according to these truths.
- 10:30Now here we go.
- 10:33This is good.
- 10:35It is excellent precious useful commendable and it is pleasing accepted acceptable and
- 10:43agreeable in the sight of God our savior.
- 10:47This is what God wants for you and it is his will for you.
- 10:52That's what this means.
- 10:54Who God who desires that all people be saved.
- 11:01Now here's the kicker who desires to will to resolve to delight or have pleasure that
- 11:08all this word all interesting enough means individually the whole person meaning me as
- 11:19the entire me and collectively some of all types that puts a monkey wrench and stuff
- 11:32because that word collectively means some not everyone of everywhere and all places
- 11:42but not everyone everywhere in all places.
- 11:47God desires that some would be saved.
- 11:52Question is who are the some.
- 11:55Now that being said let's keep reading this word saved means to be transport into Christ.
- 12:04This is sozo is the word here save means to transport into Christ not just be saved from
- 12:12calamity being put into Christ OK and we are put into Christ and to come Eric oh my my
- 12:23favorite word it sounds so cool Eric my to come to the knowledge or the precise correct
- 12:33knowledge is the word there in its in the translation of the truth what truth the gospel
- 12:41truth the truth of God's word there is one truth there is no such thing as I have my
- 12:48truth you have your truth while your truth is going to kill you because it ain't true.
- 12:55Isn't that interesting.
- 12:57So die in your truth.
- 12:59OK now for there is one God here's the truth one God there is one mediator between God
- 13:08and man the man Christ Jesus one savior one God one mediator one faith one baptism you
- 13:17can find that in Ephesians.
- 13:20OK now who gave himself as a ransom for all same word the whole individual or the ransom
- 13:31for all of some types which is the testimony this word testimonies gospel given at the
- 13:41proper time.
- 13:42In other words Christ came at the proper time at the exact moment he was supposed to come
- 13:47and he died at the exact moment when he was supposed to die and he resurrected at the
- 13:51exact exact moment he was supposed to resurrect that was that was be foundationally established
- 13:58before the foundation of the world.
- 14:00That was going to happen.
- 14:01He was crucified before the foundation of the world.
- 14:06Now for this I was appointed what was he appointed to this word appointed is this idea that he
- 14:16was called to be a preacher and apostle.
- 14:19God has personally picked and chosen Paul to be the preacher and the apostle and the
- 14:26teacher to the Gentiles now this this term given at the proper time I want to give a
- 14:34clarification this term given at the proper time which is the testimony the gospel given
- 14:40at the proper time this means belonging to another one's property one's family in due
- 14:48season.
- 14:49In other words Christ came and died for his family in due season.
- 14:54That's what that means.
- 14:56Now Paul says that he's not lying about any of this he's telling the truth and that he
- 15:02is a teacher to the Gentiles.
- 15:05Then he turns around and he says this really interesting statement in verse eight I desire
- 15:14I have you know and will deliberately have purpose then that in every place every space
- 15:24marked off is what that means the men right.
- 15:30This is a near meaning a male the men.
- 15:34This is not mankind.
- 15:35This is the men men should pray lifting up or lifting holy hands without anger without
- 15:46wrath without quarreling without disputing or arguing what is true.
- 15:52Do we do that?
- 15:56You notice he before he goes and has a conversation about the women he gives you one responsibility
- 16:03men let them see you be surrendered.
- 16:09In other words holy hands is saying God I have nothing to hide.
- 16:15I'm here before you totally dependent and surrendered to you because you alone are God.
- 16:23You that's what that means.
- 16:27Not men of pride.
- 16:31We talked about this couple weeks ago means to act like a man.
- 16:38It's okay to be vulnerable in front of your family before the holy God because he already
- 16:45knows all your junk.
- 16:48That's what this means.
- 16:51So I desire that in every way the men should pray lifting up holy hands without anger and
- 17:00quarreling I want to thank our elder Lanny Lewis because he is a man of God.
- 17:10He leads people in prayer.
- 17:13He understands the importance of this.
- 17:17Pray thank you men when you pray.
- 17:24That being said Psalm 63 verse 4 says so I will bless you as long as I live and in your
- 17:30name I will lift up my hands.
- 17:34Remember when you lift up holy hands before God you are proclaiming the name of God.
- 17:42You are I am the source of all life.
- 17:46You are holy righteous and good.
- 17:48There is no one like you and no one will ever be you.
- 17:53You are eternal everlasting.
- 17:56I need you because without you I am dead.
- 18:01That's the idea.
- 18:02Do you get my point why I'm kind of on you men.
- 18:09Because for men it's the brokenness of pride.
- 18:15When you lift up holy hands before God you are dependent surrendered vulnerable before
- 18:21him willingly.
- 18:25It means you're in control.
- 18:28And then he goes on and says likewise are you ladies ready.
- 18:34Here it is.
- 18:36So as men principle number one principle principle number two really verses three three through
- 18:43four I mean nine through ten sorry as men are to set the example of a dependent and
- 18:50surrendered life expressed in lifting holy hands women must also live a dependent and
- 18:59surrendered life to Christ expressed in modesty.
- 19:05It's interesting that he's he's not saying that women shouldn't pray.
- 19:10He's saying that women should express their dependency and surrendered life to the living
- 19:15God and how they show themselves in the same way a man must lift up holy hands before the
- 19:24living God.
- 19:27Women should show their dependency and surrenderedness to him.
- 19:32Do not let your adorning be external the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry
- 19:40or the clothing you wear but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with imperishable
- 19:45beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit which in God's sight is very precious.
- 19:53First Peter three three through four the problem with the women back then is it was literally
- 19:58a fashion show.
- 20:01Going to church or gathering together is to show hey look at my hair I got curls and I
- 20:09got nice little gold jewelry in it see and they'd walk in and it's a game when their
- 20:16heart is dirty and that's what he's dealing with here.
- 20:20It's the same issue in Ephesus because the vast majority of the people who were running
- 20:24the church in Ephesus were women.
- 20:26The men were too lazy to step up thank God our men are not even though I'm pushing you
- 20:34to do more and thank you for all the men who showed up this morning.
- 20:39Great job.
- 20:41Very proud of you.
- 20:43That being said first Timothy two nine through ten says this likewise also then women adorn
- 20:50cosmeo is the word here means to embellish with honor adorn embellish with honor themselves
- 20:59in respectable cosmeos well arranged seemingly apparel.
- 21:06In other words if I'm going to adorn myself as a woman God says that you should adorn
- 21:12yourself in a way that brings honor not only to God but to you and bellies yourself with
- 21:22honor.
- 21:25Be able to walk in with your head lifted high showing that you honor and love God and you
- 21:31want the world to see the godliness of a pure heart.
- 21:37Now it's interesting that he uses this term respectable meaning well arranged.
- 21:43In other words even though I'm going to dress in a modest way it's not done in a way that's
- 21:49just happenstance like you know I'm not going to bring any attention to myself so I just
- 21:55go in with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt or something like that.
- 22:00Not saying you can't right.
- 22:03In other words if I came in with a tuxedo and I was preaching with a tuxedo I would
- 22:11be out of place that's not modest that's the point right.
- 22:17You don't come into church when everybody's wearing khakis and casual clothes with your
- 22:22Louis Vuitton.
- 22:26That's what that means right that you that you walk in respectable with honor not purpose
- 22:34purposing to be seen and so he says with modesty I dose I dose or I don't say a sense of shame
- 22:45out of all in reverence.
- 22:48Women have you ever thought that modesty is this understanding that I have a sense of
- 22:54shame out of all in reverence.
- 22:57What's it mean to have a sense of shame out of all in reverence.
- 23:02That I out of all in reverence to God have a sense that I am not the most important person
- 23:09walking in the door.
- 23:12That's what that means.
- 23:14As a matter of fact if the husband is doing his job then he is edifying and lifting you
- 23:21all you need.
- 23:24That should be enough.
- 23:27Now the term of self and self control sofras une sofras une means soundness of mind sober
- 23:40minded or sanity.
- 23:43Now why would he use this term.
- 23:48I'm kind of scared right now I'm kind of terrified.
- 23:53John's like be a man.
- 23:57What's it mean to be self controlled as a woman.
- 24:00Why does God even tell the older women to teach the younger women to be self controlled
- 24:06and temperate.
- 24:08Why is this the same word.
- 24:09Why is God saying to you as women be soundness of mind sober minded and sanity.
- 24:19Because God has created you uniquely to be emotional.
- 24:24Don't be offended.
- 24:26It's true.
- 24:28You're created with emotion.
- 24:30You're created in a way that you can be vulnerable emotionally.
- 24:34But sometimes well I'll say many times your emotion dominates you.
- 24:44It rules you.
- 24:45Why.
- 24:46Because of the sinful broken nature.
- 24:49The very thing that God intended for you to use to be tender and gentle and compassionate
- 24:55and empathetic and immediately run to the pain and the need of the child or the needs
- 25:01of your husband.
- 25:04Sin has corrupted that.
- 25:07And as a result of that corrupted emotion it gets out of control.
- 25:12You lose your mind.
- 25:14You aren't thinking soberly.
- 25:17You seem like you're not being sane.
- 25:21That's what the word says here.
- 25:25And sometimes that self control has a tendency because I am so wanting to be wanted.
- 25:31I'm so wanting to be recognized.
- 25:33I'm so wanting to be needed that I need to do something to bring attention to myself.
- 25:39Why do you think society keeps feeding you the lie that you are broken.
- 25:45That you need to be like that woman.
- 25:49Because they are feeding your inability to be self controlled.
- 25:56And what he says here is not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly attire.
- 26:04But with what is proper for a woman who professes godliness.
- 26:09Reverence toward God with good works.
- 26:12You notice that.
- 26:13So there's several ways that our emotions have a tendency to dominate and control.
- 26:20Either it dominates and controls because I'm so worried about me.
- 26:23I need this procedure.
- 26:25I need this clothing or I need this because I want to make sure I'm good enough.
- 26:33And God says you're already good enough.
- 26:40If you belong to him, that's all you need.
- 26:45What more do you need?
- 26:50And so we find our sober mindedness in learning self control.
- 26:58In learning that in Christ his word can wash me and cleanse me and I can know his promises
- 27:06are true for me and I am what he says I am as his daughter.
- 27:18Now the beauty of every girl and woman is a heart committed to complimenting and partnering
- 27:30for the edification of the family and the church.
- 27:34I want you to hear that.
- 27:36The beauty of every girl and woman is a heart committed to complimenting and partnering
- 27:43for the edification of the family and the church being lived out according to the role
- 27:49that God has assigned.
- 27:52Your role is not meaningless.
- 27:56It is necessary.
- 27:59Not only for the edification of the family and the church but for the proclamation of
- 28:05the gospel to the community in which you live.
- 28:09But let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty
- 28:15of a gentle and quiet spirit which in God's sight is very precious.
- 28:20For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves by submitting
- 28:27to their own husbands, 1 Peter 3, 4 through 5.
- 28:31And I know as soon as I said that word submitting the air went out of the balloon.
- 28:38Here we go again.
- 28:39This is another male chauvinist.
- 28:44Actually I'm on your side so you're going to be okay.
- 28:48So here is what he says.
- 28:53Understanding this, this is very important.
- 28:56This idea of submission is the power and influence to proclaim to those around you that I am
- 29:07in God's hands.
- 29:10I believe him.
- 29:14And I'll explain where this battle comes from within the heart of the woman in Genesis 3
- 29:21in a minute.
- 29:22But look what it says.
- 29:23Let a woman learn quietly.
- 29:26Let a woman learn in stillness.
- 29:28In other words it's not a woman sitting there shutting up.
- 29:32It's not the term in the understanding of keeping your mouth shut.
- 29:38It's the term to learn in stillness not a meddler.
- 29:46Not meaning mind your own business.
- 29:51Mind your own business.
- 29:52Isn't that interesting?
- 29:56Because the woman would go to church and guess what they would do?
- 30:00Get together and they're in church and the men are like thank you Lord.
- 30:08I hope.
- 30:10And they're praying and the women are like do you know what happened the other day?
- 30:15Girl let me tell you.
- 30:17And then all of a sudden guess what happens?
- 30:19Slander gossip.
- 30:22That's not beautiful.
- 30:24That's not modest.
- 30:26But that's what he means here.
- 30:27The woman should learn quietly.
- 30:28The woman should learn in the stillness not meddler with each other.
- 30:36Not getting in each other's business while you're learning.
- 30:40It's not that women can't ask a question.
- 30:44It's that women get busy talking about stuff they don't need to be talking about.
- 30:47During the time it's most important for them to grow.
- 30:53Isn't that interesting?
- 30:54I can see that because when they would go to the temple where would the women be?
- 30:59In the women's court.
- 31:01Not with the men.
- 31:05And they'd be talking.
- 31:06And the pastor would be like hey!
- 31:11Save that for later.
- 31:12Matter of fact don't do it at all.
- 31:15So women should learn quietly with all submissiveness.
- 31:19This word submissiveness means to arrange oneself act of subjecting.
- 31:27Notice it says that you need to arrange yourself.
- 31:31It's not the man's job men to remind your wife to be submissive.
- 31:37As a matter of fact don't say it at all.
- 31:39Just shut up.
- 31:40Because it really makes you look really bad.
- 31:42And your wife doesn't want to be told to be submissive because it comes off arrogant
- 31:46and disrespectful.
- 31:48It's God's job to tell them to be submissive.
- 31:51Your job is to lead.
- 31:55Don't tell your wife to say be submissive.
- 31:58Let God do that.
- 31:59The preacher do that.
- 32:00A woman do that.
- 32:02Tell each other that.
- 32:05But I'm not going to tell my wife that she needs to be submissive.
- 32:10One.
- 32:14My wife's Hispanic.
- 32:18And art knows what happens when you tell a Hispanic wife to be quiet.
- 32:22Doesn't work.
- 32:25I know bro.
- 32:26And if you're Italian you also know.
- 32:30German.
- 32:31Pennsylvania Dutch.
- 32:34No it's everybody.
- 32:37So when we go and we say you as a woman should arrange yourself and put yourself in the act
- 32:46of subjection.
- 32:48I am willing to come before you in humility.
- 32:55I'm willing to bend the knee.
- 32:58Not worship.
- 32:59In other words I'm willing not to have my way.
- 33:03I'm willing to trust God in you.
- 33:07And what you're really saying is God I trust you.
- 33:10That's what submissiveness means here.
- 33:13If you're not submissive you don't really trust God.
- 33:15Now this does not mean that if your husband is beating you that you should be submissive.
- 33:20That's not what this means.
- 33:21If your husband is being verbally abusive physically abusive emotionally abusive or
- 33:27spiritually abusive that does not mean that you submit to that trash.
- 33:31That's not submissive.
- 33:32That's that's dumb.
- 33:36Just being honest that's not smart.
- 33:39Right.
- 33:40When you give yourself over to being beaten.
- 33:43That's not a good thing.
- 33:45That's common sense.
- 33:47Right.
- 33:48But that's hard sometimes when you're under that type of abuse.
- 33:51It's difficult.
- 33:54But that's where God has given you others that can come alongside you and help gird
- 33:58you strengthen you strengthen your knees get you out.
- 34:03There is always a way out.
- 34:06But that's not submissiveness.
- 34:09Submissiveness is the willingness to trust God that what he says is true because God
- 34:14has my man.
- 34:18Notice he also says in verse 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority
- 34:24over a man.
- 34:26The word here is to teach a man or have dominion over a man.
- 34:32Rather she is to remain quiet.
- 34:35She needs to remain a woman who is being submissive to God.
- 34:42I mean it's the same word quietness stillness not a meddler minding your own business.
- 34:50Women are not to teach nor exercise dominion over men but be quiet stillness not a meddler
- 35:00minding your own business.
- 35:01But why does God use this terminology here.
- 35:05Well if you go to Genesis let me show you what Paul's talking about here.
- 35:14Genesis chapter 3 you can turn there.
- 35:25Kids are having fun downstairs.
- 35:27Let's go.
- 35:29High energy.
- 35:32So here's what happens.
- 35:35Genesis 3.
- 35:37Now I want you to pay attention to something here.
- 35:41Now the serpent was more crafty than the other beasts of the field that the Lord God had
- 35:46made.
- 35:47He said to the woman did God actually say you shall not eat of any tree in the garden
- 35:53the woman said to the serpent we may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden but God
- 35:59said you shall not eat of the fruit of the trees that is in the midst of the garden nor
- 36:03shall you touch it lest you die.
- 36:07What was problem number one.
- 36:09She wasn't minding her own business.
- 36:11Did she have business talking to that creature.
- 36:17Especially when the creature came to her and said did God really say that.
- 36:26Now you see why God says concerning the woman.
- 36:31We got to fix this.
- 36:33Okay.
- 36:35Now let's keep reading.
- 36:38But God said you shall not eat the tree in the midst of the garden.
- 36:41Shall you touch it lest you die.
- 36:43He didn't say if you touch it.
- 36:44He said if you eat it.
- 36:47But the serpent said to the woman you will not surely die for God knows that when you
- 36:52eat of it your eyes will be open and you will be like God knowing good and evil.
- 37:00So the when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that was a delight to the
- 37:04eyes and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise she took its fruit and ate and
- 37:11she also gave some to her husband who was with her and he ate.
- 37:21Here's what it means.
- 37:24Back to Timothy verse 11 through 12.
- 37:28I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over man rather she is to remain
- 37:35quiet why.
- 37:37Because she was not minding her business.
- 37:42And as a result of her not minding her business something happened.
- 37:47And as a result of her not being willing to go to her husband and say yeah this serpent
- 37:55talking to me and he's saying I can eat.
- 37:57What do you say.
- 38:01You ever notice that's not even mentioned there either.
- 38:06Because what ends up happening in many cases is you'll have a preacher go the man should
- 38:11have stopped her.
- 38:13First of all she is bone in my bone flesh in my flesh.
- 38:16She knows me.
- 38:17I don't know her everything I know she knows or does she.
- 38:25She's intelligent.
- 38:27She's intelligent enough to have a conversation.
- 38:29She's intelligent enough to say God said I shouldn't touch it.
- 38:34Come on women aren't stupid.
- 38:40Some of the most most intelligent creatures on the planet are women regardless of what
- 38:47you think about Steve Jobs.
- 38:53When a woman can run a house take care of eight kids.
- 39:02Okay that's intelligence.
- 39:07I'm not going to play the game with this.
- 39:09I'm just being honest what was her problem.
- 39:12She didn't submit.
- 39:15She didn't arrange herself willingly under her husband say hey this isn't supposed to
- 39:20be happening is it.
- 39:22And where did he where did he fail.
- 39:25He didn't open his mouth.
- 39:28They're both wrong and we're going to see that in a minute.
- 39:33Why are women commanded by God to be still not meddling willingly place themselves in
- 39:40the role assigned not to teach nor have dominion over a man.
- 39:46Why is God saying this.
- 39:48Women are designed to compliment and partner with their husband not to be independent but
- 39:56to be with them.
- 39:59She was independent.
- 40:02That's the problem here.
- 40:06You aren't created to be by yourself.
- 40:08I wasn't created to be by myself if I was created to be by myself.
- 40:12Why would God say in chapter two the Lord said it is not good that man should be alone.
- 40:22I will make him a helper fit for him.
- 40:28We aren't meant to be independent.
- 40:31We are meant to be dependent together upon him together.
- 40:37That's the point.
- 40:39You aren't meant to live life alone.
- 40:43Now then the Lord God said it is not good that man should be alone but I will make him
- 40:49a helper.
- 40:52The word helper is one who will work with partner compliment.
- 40:57This word fit is interesting.
- 40:59This word fit means one who is before me in my face.
- 41:07Trust me I do something stupid.
- 41:09My wife is in my face.
- 41:12No I'm not kidding.
- 41:21That's good.
- 41:22That's so good.
- 41:23First Timothy 2 13-15 this is what it says for Adam was formed first then Eve.
- 41:30So the first reason why women are to be subjected to their husbands is because it's the order
- 41:37of things.
- 41:39God did it that way.
- 41:40You don't have to like it.
- 41:42He doesn't care if you don't like it.
- 41:44He says this is the way it is.
- 41:46So if you know it's the way it is and this is the way God says it's going to be when
- 41:50you fight against God you're fighting against the gold.
- 41:53So all of this feminine stuff has taken away your influence and power.
- 42:05To be independent makes you weak as women.
- 42:10You want strength?
- 42:12Partner compliment your husband.
- 42:16Now don't worry we're going to get into the marriage stuff eventually and then men get
- 42:21really wrecked.
- 42:23This is exciting.
- 42:25So for Adam was formed first then Eve this is the order of things.
- 42:28God has set things in an order and Adam was not deceived but the woman was deceived.
- 42:32Why?
- 42:33Because she was meddling.
- 42:34She couldn't mind her own business.
- 42:38That's what it means.
- 42:39The word deceived here means to deceive or beguile with a thing.
- 42:42He gave it he was like yo check this out.
- 42:47Now think about this ladies.
- 42:48He stuck a fruit in front of your face.
- 42:51Not you personally but Eve's face and said you can be just like God.
- 42:57Man it looks good.
- 42:58Oh boy.
- 43:01And then God is everything you ever need in life and the source of all living.
- 43:07Like this is going to give you something that God can't.
- 43:11That's what meddling does.
- 43:12That's what not minding your own business means.
- 43:15You're too wrapped up with everything else around the world.
- 43:17Now here we go.
- 43:21Adam was not deceived but the woman was deceived.
- 43:23She was beguiled and became a transgressor the scripture says.
- 43:28This word transgressor means to go over to disregard the wrongdoing even out of ignorance.
- 43:35She did wrong even when she was ignorant.
- 43:39So in other words there is no excuse.
- 43:44She disregarded what God said and she disregarded her husband who was with her.
- 43:52Regardless of his weakness yet she will be saved.
- 43:57Now what's interesting about this is some pastors skip over this and I'm not going to
- 44:02do it.
- 44:03So this isn't about you're going to you're going to go to heaven because you're having
- 44:05babies.
- 44:06So you want to have babies go for it.
- 44:09But that's not going to get you to heaven any faster.
- 44:11Okay.
- 44:12That's not what this means.
- 44:13What this means in the word save means to be well and behold yet she will be well.
- 44:20She will be whole as a mother.
- 44:26A woman finds her identity and being and how God created her to be a mother procreate.
- 44:37You are given a gift that no man will ever experience.
- 44:43You birth life.
- 44:46You're a life giver.
- 44:49That's what this means.
- 44:52That you will be well.
- 44:55You will be whole as a life giver.
- 45:00And here's the other thing I want you to understand.
- 45:02Do you know that you're complimenting your partnering with God and birthing life because
- 45:09you're giving the opportunity for godly offspring.
- 45:13That's one of the commands.
- 45:15God wants godly offspring.
- 45:18The scripture says now and not only are you going to be whole as a mother because that
- 45:27has that is why God created you in the role that you play.
- 45:33But you should also continue cleave hold fast.
- 45:38Do not depart from faith from love from holiness from with self control with the understanding
- 45:50that I am not going to give my mind and my affection and my heart to anything else but
- 45:58God and that which he's given me.
- 46:02That's the role that you play.
- 46:04Do you see the power you have as a woman?
- 46:08Forget the feminist movement.
- 46:10They are taking your power and influence away.
- 46:13This is not about you becoming an independent woman.
- 46:16This is about you becoming the one that God created you to be and the role you should
- 46:19play and you wonder why women are suffering in our country because they've been lied
- 46:25to by deceivers by devils.
- 46:33So let me say it this way.
- 46:36She will be well and whole as a mother a woman of faith a woman of love a woman of holiness
- 46:45and a woman of a sound mind.
- 46:49If she continues in the role and purpose that God created her to be.
- 47:00So here's the consequence because Eve did not do this.
- 47:08He says to the woman chapter three of Genesis he says to the woman 316 to the woman he said
- 47:18I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing in pain you shall bring forth children.
- 47:25There it is.
- 47:27She will be whole in childbearing.
- 47:33Your pain in childbearing is a reminder not to walk away from God again.
- 47:40Every time you have a baby and that pain is there.
- 47:44It's a reminder you did not choose me but I chose you.
- 47:54Why would he give us pain during childbearing to teach you.
- 47:58He is your identity.
- 48:01He is the source of your life.
- 48:03And then he says this your desire shall be contrary to your husband but he shall rule
- 48:11over you.
- 48:14Your desire is to have dominion over your husband.
- 48:20But he will rule you.
- 48:23In other words in your house if you cannot compliment your husband if you can't partner
- 48:29with your husband if your husband can't edify and lift you up and partner with you guess
- 48:35what's always there all the time.
- 48:38Conflict day after day.
- 48:40Day after day there's a fight and an argument over something stupid.
- 48:45Why because I am my own woman and the man says no I rule the house.
- 48:54No this is my castle.
- 48:57Yeah you're right.
- 48:59But I rule the house.
- 49:01And what happens he sits on his couch and he's this waits.
- 49:07How do I know because I do that.
- 49:11Even pastor and and my wife we we have debates.
- 49:19I'm not I'm not I'm not sure of the curse.
- 49:21I live in the curse every day.
- 49:26It's the same idea that sin desires to have you but you must master it.
- 49:32Sin wants to control you.
- 49:34That's what this means.
- 49:36But if I willingly submit if you willingly submit to God and the role and the purpose
- 49:43he has for you as a woman and you embrace the beauty of the godliness of the feminine
- 49:52woman you will experience the amazing blessings that God has for you because you are living
- 50:00out the purpose by which God created you.
- 50:03Father I want to thank you to you be honor and glory power and might.
- 50:09I praise you and I praise you that in your wisdom you have birthed the family and that
- 50:19you have allowed even in our brokenness the depth of the truth to be filled in our lives
- 50:27that if we if we play the role in part that you have assigned to us to play if we do what
- 50:34you've commanded us to do that you will be high enough lifted up glorified that the gospel
- 50:40would be proclaimed by the family by which the family of God comes together and proclaims
- 50:48the gospel to the communities to the world.
- 50:54Lord we praise you and we thank you.
- 50:57Help us as a church to be submissive to willingly place ourselves in subjection to you because
- 51:04it's your purpose and your role for us and that we would be obedient in those things
- 51:10to you be honor and glory power and might forever.
- 51:15In Jesus name.
- 51:20Amen.
