Transcript
- 0:32what's going on everybody
- 0:33welcome to lunch with the
- 0:35clydesdale it is lunch time
- 0:38it's time to hang out do
- 0:40our thing um can't wait to
- 0:42chat with you all it's a
- 0:43monday afternoon and I
- 0:45actually have a show idea
- 0:48after the weekend uh so I'm
- 0:50super pumped about that um
- 0:54so yeah so what we're going
- 0:56to eventually get into today is
- 0:59For years,
- 1:00I've been hearing about people
- 1:01talk about this show full
- 1:03swing and that CrossFit
- 1:05needs to get into the
- 1:07business of doing a show
- 1:09like that in order to grow the sport,
- 1:12the methodology, all of that stuff.
- 1:14So this weekend, I actually...
- 1:17I had some time to sit down
- 1:19and start watching full
- 1:20swing and I got a flood of
- 1:22ideas that came with it and
- 1:24whether I thought that it
- 1:26was a viable option for CrossFit.
- 1:28But before we get into that,
- 1:31there was some breaking
- 1:32news today as two people
- 1:35have withdrawn from the Mayhem Classic.
- 1:39We just did our preview show
- 1:40last night where we made
- 1:41our picks for who will get
- 1:43their tickets to the CrossFit Games.
- 1:46And then this morning,
- 1:48this came out where the top
- 1:49two women on the list have withdrawn.
- 1:53That is Danielle Brandon and Brooke Wells.
- 1:58So now the field is down to four, six,
- 2:03eight, ten, twelve, fourteen.
- 2:07Sixteen, eighteen,
- 2:09eighteen competitors with.
- 2:17Eighteen competitors and two
- 2:18cannot qualify for the games.
- 2:22So now instead of two spots out of twenty,
- 2:25it's going to be two spots out of sixteen,
- 2:28which really increases the odds.
- 2:31I know some people actually
- 2:34declined coming to this
- 2:36because of how stacked the
- 2:38field was and that the odds
- 2:40weren't that good.
- 2:42And now as more and more people withdraw,
- 2:45the odds are getting better and better.
- 2:48What I think the correlation
- 2:49is going to be is,
- 2:51that by the end of the
- 2:53in-person qualifying events
- 2:56like nor cal uh it is going
- 2:59to be insane the number of
- 3:01high-level athletes that
- 3:02will be signed up for that
- 3:04trying to get those last
- 3:05couple spots to the games
- 3:09um I watched daniel
- 3:11brandon's rad tapes last
- 3:13night someone suggested it
- 3:14in the chat uh so I watched
- 3:16that before I went to bed
- 3:18And it is obvious in that
- 3:25little documentary,
- 3:26she has no idea what her
- 3:29plan is for the season.
- 3:30This is all new.
- 3:32With the in-affiliate semis
- 3:35and the in-person semis,
- 3:37there are two different ways to qualify.
- 3:40And so I think that
- 3:42everybody is confused as to
- 3:45what is the best route to
- 3:47take to get there.
- 3:49And I think a lot of people
- 3:50are really putting their
- 3:53eggs in the online basket.
- 3:55But that's only eleven spots.
- 3:59And there's a lot more
- 4:01people than eleven trying
- 4:03to get those spots.
- 4:04So it's going to be crazy.
- 4:06It's going to be a crazy season.
- 4:07Can't wait to follow it all.
- 4:09But wanted to hit you up
- 4:10with that breaking news
- 4:11before we get into much else.
- 4:16Uh, the other thing, uh,
- 4:18on my mind today is, uh,
- 4:24Corey is the only lot.
- 4:25The online basket is the
- 4:26only basket I have.
- 4:28Yeah.
- 4:28That's that's age group.
- 4:29And it's been that way for a long time,
- 4:31dude.
- 4:36Um,
- 4:38So, yeah,
- 4:39Craig says it's great news for fee.
- 4:41It sure is.
- 4:42And she was one of my picks
- 4:43to get a ticket.
- 4:45So that increases her chances.
- 4:46She's been killing it this year, though.
- 4:50I think she's I think she's
- 4:51going to be great this weekend.
- 4:53Can't wait to see her out there.
- 5:02And I actually picked Alexis
- 5:03Raptus and Fee,
- 5:04so my two girls are still in it.
- 5:07So this just thins out the
- 5:08hurt a little bit for my picks.
- 5:12So the other thing I wanted
- 5:14to talk about is my wife
- 5:16and I sat down this weekend
- 5:19and watched Anora,
- 5:22the movie that won Best
- 5:23Picture of the Year at the
- 5:25Academy Awards.
- 5:27And my question to all of
- 5:28you is who in the hell
- 5:30picks these movies?
- 5:33it was one of the biggest
- 5:35waste of times I've ever
- 5:37taken to watch a movie in my life.
- 5:44To me,
- 5:44a movie is supposed to tell me a story.
- 5:48I'm supposed to,
- 5:49whether it is fiction or nonfiction,
- 5:52it's supposed to tell me a story.
- 5:53It took forty five minutes
- 5:56just to get to the
- 5:58beginnings of a storyline.
- 6:02The first forty five minutes
- 6:04were basically soft core porn.
- 6:08And no storyline,
- 6:09just meandering through life.
- 6:13And then when there is an
- 6:14assemblance of a storyline.
- 6:21It starts to go in a way you're like, OK,
- 6:23now I get it.
- 6:25And then they completely
- 6:26abandoned that storyline for the ending.
- 6:29That just makes you go like,
- 6:31what the hell did I just watch?
- 6:36Um,
- 6:38Honestly,
- 6:40I don't think I would have given
- 6:41it anything higher than like a D grade,
- 6:45maybe one or two stars tops.
- 6:50And that's being generous.
- 6:53It was such a bad movie and
- 6:55it was picked as the best
- 6:56movie of the year by these people.
- 7:02Do I think it was a DEI pick?
- 7:03I do not.
- 7:06I do not.
- 7:08It really had nothing to do
- 7:09with any of that.
- 7:10Even, um, no,
- 7:13the brutalist was a bigger waste of time.
- 7:16So Jody, I'll say I've seen worse movies.
- 7:19Um, but it just,
- 7:20it was a complete waste of
- 7:22two and a half hours.
- 7:24Um, I have seen worse movies than this,
- 7:28but if you've won the best
- 7:29picture of the year,
- 7:30I would say that your
- 7:33expectations are higher.
- 7:37and it didn't come close to
- 7:39reaching any of that so if
- 7:43you have not why it's on
- 7:44hulu now uh that's why we
- 7:47watched it andrew says I
- 7:49think it was more on its
- 7:50subject matter than the actual movie
- 7:55the subject matter is, I mean,
- 7:57I'm not going to spoil anything.
- 7:59She's a stripper.
- 8:01She meets a kid in the strip joint.
- 8:04They start hanging out.
- 8:06They impulsively get married.
- 8:08His parents do not like the
- 8:10fact that they're married
- 8:12and they try to get the wedding annulled.
- 8:15That is,
- 8:16that is the entire storyline that,
- 8:21other than that she is a New
- 8:23York girl with Russian descendants.
- 8:31They are actually Russian,
- 8:33the boy and the family that
- 8:35wants the wedding annulled.
- 8:37And other than that, it made no sense.
- 8:43Like, that is the storyline.
- 8:45I don't think it had, I don't know.
- 8:48I, I, Andrew,
- 8:49if you can explain to me why it won,
- 8:52go ahead.
- 8:53But I don't think that there
- 8:55was anything subject matter
- 8:56in there that was earth shattering.
- 8:58I think pretty woman did it
- 8:59years ago with a twist at the end.
- 9:02Um,
- 9:02Romeo and Juliet did it deck or
- 9:05centuries ago, um,
- 9:07where the parents didn't
- 9:08want them to get married.
- 9:10It's an old story.
- 9:11It doesn't, I don't know anyway.
- 9:18Sorry, that's just my little rant.
- 9:25Yeah, I don't know.
- 9:25I don't really pay attention
- 9:27to all that stuff,
- 9:29so I don't know who put the
- 9:30movie together.
- 9:31It just was an awful movie.
- 9:38uh helson albernes says I me
- 9:39and my wife started
- 9:40watching the pit thank you
- 9:42now I'm hooked yeah you are
- 9:44welcome you are welcome it
- 9:46is so good so good yeah you
- 9:50like the new script jody
- 9:51lynn I just noticed that I
- 9:54could change it if I wanted
- 9:55to and this is like uh uh
- 10:00like a rock star like I
- 10:01don't know it's some kind
- 10:02of rock star script
- 10:04We'll use it for today.
- 10:05We'll see what it's like and
- 10:06then see what we're going
- 10:07to do going forward.
- 10:11Jeffrey Birchfield starting
- 10:12his online L one today.
- 10:15Good luck, brother.
- 10:16It's a fun ride.
- 10:18When you get to the physical
- 10:19part of the working out in
- 10:21front of the camera for your coach,
- 10:25you're going to be tired.
- 10:27It's going to feel like a
- 10:29pretty big workout after that.
- 10:32But enjoy it.
- 10:33It's a lot of fun.
- 10:39Scott takes the movie bullet
- 10:41for all of us.
- 10:42Yeah,
- 10:42I watched it so you guys don't have to.
- 10:47Really, really a complete waste of time.
- 10:51Now,
- 10:52there's a lot of movies that have come
- 10:53out on streaming.
- 10:54So, like,
- 10:55I have a long list of things I
- 10:57want to watch.
- 10:59still need to see den of
- 11:00these two I still the
- 11:01complete unknown came out
- 11:03wicked came out um so at
- 11:06some point over the next
- 11:07few days my wife and I'll
- 11:08probably hit some of those
- 11:10um and I will share my
- 11:11thoughts on those uh so
- 11:14that you guys can avoid the
- 11:15bad ones and check out the
- 11:16good ones so yeah
- 11:23So the real thing I wanted
- 11:24to get into today at lunch
- 11:26was for a long time, I've heard like
- 11:32Justin Kotler and Matt
- 11:34O'Keefe and a lot of these
- 11:37interrupts in the CrossFit
- 11:38space say that in order to grow the sport,
- 11:42CrossFit needs to do
- 11:43something like full swing.
- 11:45And so this weekend, I had some time.
- 11:49I was babysitting my daughter's dogs,
- 11:52so I couldn't really go anywhere,
- 11:55and I just had to take them on walks.
- 11:57I started watching full swing.
- 11:59I'll say I am hooked immediately.
- 12:01I am not a golfer.
- 12:03I have golfed, and I used to golf a lot.
- 12:07Not so much anymore.
- 12:08I watch maybe...
- 12:11a few hours of the masters every year,
- 12:13and maybe a few hours of another major.
- 12:16That's about the extent of
- 12:18my golf watching,
- 12:20but the stories that this
- 12:21show is telling suck me right in.
- 12:25And I think that's what
- 12:26they're getting at with that.
- 12:28CrossFit needs to do something like this,
- 12:31um, to help grow it.
- 12:34What I will say is after watching it, um,
- 12:39that I think that CrossFit
- 12:41has done some of these things.
- 12:42They've probably done all of these things.
- 12:45But there's a piece in this thing.
- 12:47There's a piece in this thing.
- 12:49There's a piece over here.
- 12:51And what Full Swing does is
- 12:53it brings it all together
- 12:54into one cohesive,
- 12:57episodic documentary series.
- 13:01um I think the one example
- 13:04that I could find where
- 13:07crossfit did it the best
- 13:09was in a road to the games
- 13:11in and I have it here so
- 13:15you can see it it was road
- 13:17to the games uh joshua
- 13:20brooke episode sixteen dot oh six
- 13:24And this episode of Road to
- 13:25the Games is the year after
- 13:28Josh missed out on the
- 13:30games and was making his comeback.
- 13:34And so the beginning of the
- 13:35episode talks about Josh not making it,
- 13:40seeing the huddle of the
- 13:41five athletes who did,
- 13:43him far away from it,
- 13:45like great shots of all that stuff.
- 13:48And that what was he doing
- 13:51in order to make it back the next year?
- 13:54then the contradiction to
- 13:55that was you have Brooke
- 13:57ends coming off a CrossFit game season.
- 13:59She gets picked to be in the
- 14:01wonder woman movie and the, um, uh, the,
- 14:07uh, the big DC movie with Batman and,
- 14:11and all of them.
- 14:13Uh, I don't know why I'm brain dead.
- 14:16And she didn't get to work
- 14:20out as much in the
- 14:21offseason and is trying to
- 14:25make it back to the game so
- 14:26that she has time to get back into shape.
- 14:30So you have Josh.
- 14:31You're right, Jay Birch.
- 14:32Yeah, Justice League.
- 14:34And it's long-haired and bearded Josh.
- 14:36Yeah,
- 14:36it's when he first gets out of the
- 14:38Navy and he lets his hair
- 14:40grow and he first gets the
- 14:41mustache and the beard and
- 14:44he comes to make his comeback.
- 14:49And so they're showing like
- 14:50piece by piece how they're
- 14:52actually showing the
- 14:52struggle as the workouts
- 14:53get announced and him
- 14:54struggling with like strict
- 14:55Nate and trying to get the
- 14:57strict muscle ups done and
- 14:59him and Dan Bailey working out the house,
- 15:01trying to get them figured out.
- 15:03You have Brooke Entz looking
- 15:04at things going, wow,
- 15:05that's not going to be in my wheelhouse.
- 15:07How am I going to do that?
- 15:08And then they go to the West
- 15:10Regional in California at Del Mar,
- 15:12and they show how it all plays out.
- 15:15And you have Josh hitting home runs,
- 15:17hitting home runs, hitting doubles,
- 15:19hitting triples with everything,
- 15:21and you can tell he's going
- 15:22to make it to the games.
- 15:25You have Brooke Entz not
- 15:26doing so well and it all
- 15:28kind of unraveling.
- 15:30And it's famously the
- 15:32episode that she kind of
- 15:35goes off on Mars.
- 15:38He is filming.
- 15:39Heber is filming.
- 15:41She walks out of the arena
- 15:43to like an outdoor event
- 15:46area and sits on bleachers, is crying.
- 15:49Like it is a big unraveling
- 15:50and you're watching it all
- 15:51kind of unfold in front of you.
- 15:55because when I was watching
- 15:56full swing and the reason I
- 15:57say that is most of the
- 15:59stuff that CrossFit puts
- 16:00out now are all the feel good stories,
- 16:03all the, this person achieved this,
- 16:06this person achieved that.
- 16:08Those things only mean so
- 16:10much unless you know where
- 16:12they came from to do it.
- 16:14And full swing does an
- 16:15amazing job of showing
- 16:19golfers that were in a struggle to
- 16:22and overcame those struggles
- 16:25in the same episode to then
- 16:27redeem themselves in their struggles.
- 16:31They feature Brooks Koepka,
- 16:33who was the best golfer in
- 16:34the world from two thousand
- 16:35seventeen to nineteen,
- 16:37and how at the Masters in season one,
- 16:41he just starts unraveling
- 16:42at the Masters and that
- 16:44he's starting to question
- 16:45himself and loses his confidence.
- 16:49Um, and,
- 16:50and how can he become great again
- 16:52if he can't believe in himself?
- 16:54And then you have the story of Joel Dolman,
- 16:58who was the seventieth
- 16:59ranked first golfer in the world.
- 17:01Yeah.
- 17:02Always is self-deprecating.
- 17:04Always says he's not good
- 17:05enough to be on the course.
- 17:07Always says all those things.
- 17:09And then he gets to the U.S.
- 17:11Open, barely qualifies to get in.
- 17:14And after two rounds,
- 17:16he is in first place at the U.S.
- 17:17Open at a major.
- 17:19And he's never even led a
- 17:21golf tournament before.
- 17:24His mom died of cancer.
- 17:26He had testicular cancer that he overcame.
- 17:29And then here he is at the U S open.
- 17:31One of the majors of golf
- 17:33winning after two rounds.
- 17:36And so they do a great job
- 17:38of piecing all of this
- 17:39together to see what they came from,
- 17:42to see what they're overcoming.
- 17:44In fact,
- 17:44his wife just got pregnant and
- 17:46they weren't even sure they
- 17:47could have kids because of
- 17:48the testicular cancer.
- 17:50His wife gets pregnant.
- 17:52They show them stroller
- 17:53shopping and then bam,
- 17:55you're at the US Open and
- 17:57he is kicking ass and taking names.
- 18:00And you can see confidence
- 18:01building in him.
- 18:03And he ends up finishing in tenth place.
- 18:06And he wins a half a million
- 18:08dollars money.
- 18:10He's never seen before.
- 18:14it was the coolest it is
- 18:16really a great show and
- 18:18really it it it shows what
- 18:21cross crossfit has done
- 18:22these parts savans behind
- 18:24the scenes do a great job
- 18:25of showing that emotion
- 18:27showing those things that
- 18:28you don't get to see um
- 18:30road to the games did a
- 18:31great job of like setting
- 18:32things up the documentaries
- 18:34do a great job of showing
- 18:35the action on the floor
- 18:37All these Hiller does a
- 18:38great job with those like
- 18:39forty eight hours with Hiller.
- 18:41What's what's going on with this athlete?
- 18:45But nowhere do you have all
- 18:47of those components
- 18:48together in one seamless
- 18:50storyline like full swing
- 18:53has showed us it can be done.
- 18:56Now, last night in the chat,
- 18:58Hiller jumped in,
- 18:59said that we are going to
- 19:00love the Jason Hopper story
- 19:02that's coming out soon,
- 19:05which now has me excited
- 19:06because he heard my mini
- 19:07rant last night and said
- 19:09that the Jason Hopper thing
- 19:11we're going to love.
- 19:12So I'm really,
- 19:13really looking forward to
- 19:14that to see what he's going
- 19:15to do with that.
- 19:17And this road to the games
- 19:20is the closest example I
- 19:22could find to it.
- 19:24And I don't know if you can
- 19:25see these stats.
- 19:26I have a software that gives
- 19:28me numbers about everything
- 19:30and everything I watch.
- 19:31So right over here are the
- 19:33total views for this Road to the Games.
- 19:37Over three million views.
- 19:42Over three million views.
- 19:44CrossFit has one point one
- 19:46million subscribers.
- 19:47That means three times the
- 19:48number of subscribers watch
- 19:50this Road to the Games.
- 19:54um so it was successful and
- 19:58I hope I hope that crossfit
- 20:00is looking at these numbers
- 20:01saying man we could kill it
- 20:03if we just did more stories
- 20:06like this better
- 20:08storytelling um the other
- 20:13interesting thing about
- 20:14about full swing is when
- 20:18I'm watching this it's season one
- 20:21live is trying to make it
- 20:23make inroads into the golf
- 20:25world and create a competing league.
- 20:29And the parallels between it
- 20:31and the WFP are uncanny.
- 20:35Um,
- 20:37first of all,
- 20:38we've heard rumors of a sale
- 20:39with CrossFit and then they
- 20:40said they are selling Saudi
- 20:43money backed the live tour.
- 20:45There are rumors that Saudi
- 20:46money is backing an effort
- 20:48to buy the CrossFit company.
- 20:52And the political backlash
- 20:54behind all of that was huge at the time,
- 20:58which I didn't really
- 20:59understand until I was
- 21:00watching a full swing of
- 21:03Live versus the World Fitness Project,
- 21:06they both offer guaranteed
- 21:07money to the biggest
- 21:09athletes in the world to
- 21:10try to get them away from
- 21:11the other entity.
- 21:14And they made the money
- 21:16whether they showed up or not.
- 21:18Full swing shows how on the PGA Tour,
- 21:21a golfer makes nothing
- 21:23unless they make the cut at a tournament.
- 21:26If they don't make the cut,
- 21:27they walk away with zero.
- 21:28And there are so many
- 21:29competitions that a
- 21:31CrossFit athlete pays to go to.
- 21:33And if they don't make a certain placing,
- 21:35they walk away with zero.
- 21:38And age group athletes know
- 21:40that even more than even elite athletes.
- 21:43A lot of times there you
- 21:44have to podium or you win nothing.
- 21:48So I thought that was interesting.
- 21:50It's really hard if you're
- 21:51an athlete going to all
- 21:52these competitions and
- 21:54you're losing money going to them.
- 21:57And then you have an entity
- 21:58coming in offering you
- 21:59money to come over with them.
- 22:05And it's guaranteed so you
- 22:06can actually pay for your trip,
- 22:08pay for things like that.
- 22:10It's really hard as an
- 22:11athlete to say no to that.
- 22:15But what the live thing did
- 22:16is it really split the golf community up.
- 22:19It split the big golfers,
- 22:21the PGA band golfers who
- 22:23went over to live,
- 22:25and then they could not
- 22:26compete in the PGA Tour anymore.
- 22:29It split the whole community up big time.
- 22:31And you see that happening
- 22:33here with what happened at
- 22:34the games and then WFP coming in.
- 22:38You can see the split
- 22:39happening and people taking sides.
- 22:42And I don't think that is a
- 22:45good thing for the sport,
- 22:47for the methodology, for any of that.
- 22:52And it really illustrated
- 22:54how Liv wasn't looking for
- 22:56necessarily the best athletes,
- 22:58but they were looking for
- 22:59the biggest and the biggest characters.
- 23:01The people that had the most
- 23:02followers on social media.
- 23:05The people that were doing
- 23:06things that garnered attention.
- 23:08And they do a whole episode on Ian Poulter,
- 23:11who was the guy that wore
- 23:12the crazy colored pants, the wild shirts,
- 23:16had his hair dyed in different colors,
- 23:20and that that was more
- 23:21important to the success of
- 23:23Liv than whether he was a
- 23:24good golfer or not.
- 23:29But what we learn in history
- 23:31is that the Liv Golf Tour did not last.
- 23:34There was a merger with them in the PGA.
- 23:39and it didn't work.
- 23:40So what I find interesting
- 23:42now is you have the WFP
- 23:43going down the same path
- 23:46using the same tactics.
- 23:48What are we going to see
- 23:49with them in a year or two?
- 23:54So, but if you're not watching full swing,
- 24:00I highly recommend it.
- 24:01It's really good.
- 24:01If you're,
- 24:03Like I said,
- 24:03I watch a couple hours of golf a year,
- 24:06a couple hours of the Masters,
- 24:07a couple hours of maybe another major.
- 24:10Other than that,
- 24:12I'm just like a drive-by golf fan.
- 24:22Lynn makes a great point.
- 24:24I made this point last night.
- 24:26The difference between full
- 24:27swing and CrossFit is full
- 24:28swing shows the good, the bad,
- 24:29and the ugly.
- 24:30CrossFit is very PC.
- 24:32You have to have athlete
- 24:34involvement in this.
- 24:37Brooks Koepka unraveling at
- 24:40the Masters and then
- 24:41talking about it with the
- 24:43people with Netflix is
- 24:44showing him at his worst on
- 24:46the golf course and
- 24:49questioning his ability.
- 24:52That's why full swing makes
- 24:54a bigger impact because
- 24:56then when Brooks Koepka
- 24:58makes the comeback, then it is more...
- 25:04It's more powerful when he
- 25:05makes the comeback.
- 25:07You have to see the bad to
- 25:08appreciate the good.
- 25:12And so Lynn is exactly, exactly dead on.
- 25:17And that's what's amazing
- 25:19about this road to the
- 25:20games that I shared with you,
- 25:21the sixteen point oh six.
- 25:23Brooke ends shows her herself unraveling.
- 25:27The problem we have with
- 25:28Brooke is that she never
- 25:29did make the comeback.
- 25:31She only made that one game's appearance,
- 25:33and then she hurt her neck,
- 25:34and then everything kind of
- 25:36went downhill from there.
- 25:39But if I'm CrossFit at this moment in time,
- 25:43I get someone embedded with Gabby Magawa.
- 25:49Getting video of her rehabbing,
- 25:52getting video of her
- 25:53struggling through the rehab,
- 25:56to finish second at the
- 25:57games and be at rogue
- 25:59killing it to then blow out
- 26:00your Achilles just at the
- 26:03most inopportune moment of
- 26:04your career of that competition,
- 26:08get that footage from rogue
- 26:09and then make a storyline
- 26:11from there forward and get the comeback.
- 26:15Show her at her worst at
- 26:17those rehab where she's in pain,
- 26:19struggling through, um,
- 26:25See what all she had to
- 26:26endure to make this comeback.
- 26:32If I were CrossFit,
- 26:33that's what I would be
- 26:34doing from a media perspective.
- 26:36I would be looking for those storylines.
- 26:43You could do it with Heinrich Heipleinen,
- 26:46but I would think that it would be
- 26:49I think you get more views
- 26:51with a Gabby McGowan
- 26:52because of where she
- 26:54finished at the games.
- 27:02Kenneth says, like old WWE promos,
- 27:04when a wrestler was out
- 27:05injured but coming back, returning soon.
- 27:10Yeah,
- 27:10we all know she's going to make the
- 27:11comeback, right?
- 27:13Why not show the hurdle she
- 27:16has to overcome to then
- 27:17make that comeback?
- 27:23And Lynn's right,
- 27:25which is okay too if
- 27:26someone can't make the comeback,
- 27:28but still are trying
- 27:29because that's real life.
- 27:33And a lot of people love Gabby.
- 27:35That's why it's,
- 27:36that would be the one I
- 27:37would try to get the story.
- 27:40That's the story.
- 27:43You know,
- 27:45it wouldn't hurt to have someone
- 27:46embedded with Sarah.
- 27:48Sarah Sigmund's daughter,
- 27:48all these years of struggling,
- 27:50she's making one more run at it.
- 27:54Whether she makes it or not,
- 27:55it's a story to follow.
- 28:01We've seen her out on the floor struggle.
- 28:02We've seen her out on the
- 28:03floor get injured.
- 28:05We've seen all that stuff.
- 28:06It'd be a great storyline.
- 28:11The opportunities are there
- 28:13for CrossFit to take
- 28:14advantage of these things.
- 28:16And like I said,
- 28:17they do a good job in pieces and parts.
- 28:22Um,
- 28:24but it's never put together in one
- 28:25cohesive, um, in one cohesive storyline,
- 28:31right?
- 28:31Like you get a piece of it
- 28:33in Savant's behind the scenes.
- 28:35You get a piece of it in a
- 28:38thing that CrossFit did.
- 28:38You get a piece of it in
- 28:39something Hiller did.
- 28:41You get a piece of it that
- 28:41they put on their own YouTube channel.
- 28:48And I don't think that the
- 28:49athletes understand that
- 28:52people want to see how they
- 28:54overcome the struggle.
- 28:55And so they're not going to
- 28:56put that stuff on their own
- 28:57YouTube channel.
- 28:59Very few athletes understand
- 29:01that to be able to show
- 29:03that stuff on their own.
- 29:08They need someone to lead
- 29:09them through that so they can show that.
- 29:18Jody Lynn says, retire early and go for it,
- 29:21Scott.
- 29:22Man, if I could.
- 29:25If I could, that would be the dream.
- 29:27That would be the dream, Jody.
- 29:33Kenneth says,
- 29:34CrossFit wouldn't even have
- 29:35to do it themselves necessarily.
- 29:36All the big camps have media teams.
- 29:38Throw them some money and
- 29:39ask for their footage.
- 29:41Send it out to the masses.
- 29:45I don't think all the camps
- 29:47have massive media teams.
- 29:50I think Mayhem does.
- 29:55I think HWPO has some.
- 30:01I know Training Think Tank
- 30:02really only has like one
- 30:05guy that kind of does it all.
- 30:10I don't think Underdogs has
- 30:11a massive team anymore.
- 30:13Yeah, Proven probably has a big team.
- 30:18I think they really just
- 30:19contract their stuff out periodically,
- 30:21but like Mayhem has an
- 30:23entrenched team that knows.
- 30:29Yeah, Corey, TTT has CTP.
- 30:32Yeah, you know me.
- 30:38And I love CTP.
- 30:39He is so cool.
- 30:39Yeah.
- 30:43But yeah,
- 30:45I just think that how the Alexis
- 30:48Raptor story,
- 30:52getting through all the
- 30:53stuff that she has and her illness,
- 30:58and she's kept fighting through it all.
- 31:06Lynn says outside media are
- 31:07always better because they
- 31:09let the story build itself.
- 31:10F one unchained full swing.
- 31:14What is unchained?
- 31:15That one I've not heard of.
- 31:16I've seen the,
- 31:17I've seen drive to survive
- 31:19and I've seen full swing.
- 31:22What is unchained?
- 31:26That would be interesting.
- 31:28I think that third Marty
- 31:29third party media could do it.
- 31:31It did the time commitment
- 31:33to devote to it.
- 31:35I just don't know.
- 31:38Economically,
- 31:39it'd be hard to get the
- 31:41payoff you need to kind of
- 31:43then see the fruits of your labor.
- 31:46Most of us in the media
- 31:47world do this stuff because we love it.
- 31:49And we just love the outcome
- 31:51of what's produced.
- 31:54Oh, Unchained is the Tour de France story,
- 31:56huh?
- 31:58Okay.
- 32:03Okay.
- 32:06When I did behind the scenes
- 32:07for the Masters last year,
- 32:09I didn't do it thinking
- 32:10that I was going to get a
- 32:11million followers and great
- 32:16feedback and blah, blah, blah.
- 32:18I thought that I wanted to
- 32:22do something that meant
- 32:23something to me and it was
- 32:25the most rewarding thing I've ever done.
- 32:29But it didn't blow up my channel.
- 32:32It didn't
- 32:33But I would do it again in a heartbeat.
- 32:42So, or a Roy Orbison hot song.
- 32:55Okay.
- 33:10I've been and we appreciate
- 33:11you for what you did thank
- 33:12you thank you corey thank
- 33:14you denise and hopefully I
- 33:18get to do it um hopefully I
- 33:20get to do it again this
- 33:21year in columbus because I
- 33:23just love hanging out with
- 33:24you guys I love your stories
- 33:28And I think that's the other
- 33:31thing that I got out of Full Swing.
- 33:35The Joel Dahlman story,
- 33:36he was seventieth in the world.
- 33:39Mother dies of cancer when
- 33:40he's a junior in high school.
- 33:42He gets testicular cancer at twenty-three.
- 33:45And he goes on to make the
- 33:48top ten at the U.S.
- 33:49Open.
- 33:51CrossFit doesn't go down the
- 33:52leaderboard that far.
- 33:54To grab that at the
- 33:56seventieth player in the
- 33:57world and to tell that
- 33:59story because it was the
- 34:00best story to tell,
- 34:02not because they were the best athlete.
- 34:05I think those are things
- 34:07that get in CrossFit's way as well.
- 34:10But I kind of tend to
- 34:11believe that Lynn is right.
- 34:14I think outside media are
- 34:15the people that are going
- 34:15to have to take the bull by
- 34:18the horns and get it done.
- 34:21they understand it better.
- 34:24And again,
- 34:25Hiller jumped in the chat last
- 34:26night and said this Jason
- 34:27Hopper video is going to be
- 34:28awesome and that I'm going
- 34:29to like it based on what I
- 34:31said last night.
- 34:32So hopefully we see a
- 34:35transition towards this
- 34:37kind of storytelling again
- 34:38because I think it is,
- 34:43I think that's what's
- 34:44missing in the CrossFit space right now.
- 34:47Road to the Games, behind the scenes,
- 34:49back in the day,
- 34:49gave us that in a combo
- 34:51deal with the Games documentaries.
- 34:54Now it's just pieces and
- 34:58parts everywhere with no cohesiveness,
- 35:01no line between them,
- 35:03no chain that connects at all.
- 35:11The Hopper vid is awesome.
- 35:14The new one or the workout one?
- 35:17I watched the workout one a
- 35:18couple days ago,
- 35:20but there's a full-blown
- 35:22one coming out soon.
- 35:32And now BTS is behind Siobhan's paywall.
- 35:35It is.
- 35:37It is.
- 35:42And you guys can do what you want to do.
- 35:46For me...
- 35:48I would pay, if I went to the movies,
- 35:50I would pay twenty to
- 35:52thirty dollars for my wife
- 35:53and I to go to the movies.
- 35:56And I just viewed behind the
- 35:58scenes is that much entertainment for me.
- 36:02I enjoy it more than going to a movie.
- 36:04So that's how I justified
- 36:06the price of paying for a
- 36:09handful of episodes every month.
- 36:14It doesn't mean that you
- 36:15guys believe the same, but
- 36:19for me and I'm so glad I did
- 36:21it this year the behind the
- 36:22scenes from this year are
- 36:24really helped me put the
- 36:25pieces of the puzzle
- 36:26together and I've said that
- 36:27before um and it makes me
- 36:30understand what was going
- 36:32on behind the scenes last
- 36:33year so uh the problem with
- 36:39this corey right now is
- 36:40he's only putting him up
- 36:41for a couple hours and then
- 36:42taking them down
- 36:46because I do believe that
- 36:48some people think that
- 36:49there is content in there
- 36:52that they don't want released widespread.
- 36:57And so he's only putting
- 36:58them up for a short amount
- 36:59of time so they don't get pulled.
- 37:06Any other year, great advice.
- 37:08Wait till they're all up, pay the fee,
- 37:11watch them all.
- 37:12This year,
- 37:13I don't know if that's going to
- 37:14happen because of the content in them.
- 37:20I mean, just total transparency.
- 37:23It's probably the last
- 37:26recorded voice of Lazar is
- 37:29in these behind the scenes.
- 37:40Because there is stuff from
- 37:41him right before the swim,
- 37:43right before the run swim.
- 37:46So it's probably the last
- 37:48time we heard from him.
- 37:55But again,
- 37:58I think the people are out there
- 37:59to do this.
- 38:00I think that people are
- 38:01going to tell the story.
- 38:03And I hope that people go in
- 38:04this direction.
- 38:06I just wanted to highlight
- 38:07why full swing is so
- 38:09popular and why it is
- 38:11possible for crossfit to do
- 38:12it or a third party media
- 38:14someone in the space um
- 38:17because we we as a space
- 38:20have done it before we just
- 38:22have to get it we just have
- 38:24to get it more cohesive
- 38:26with a nice thread going
- 38:29through the whole thing so
- 38:34Well,
- 38:35I hope your Monday is a great one and
- 38:38you have a great start to the week.
- 38:40Again, breaking news off the top,
- 38:42two people have withdrawn
- 38:44from the Mayhem Classic.
- 38:48Danielle Brandon and Brooke Wells.
- 38:56So with that, and don't go see Anora.
- 39:00It was terrible.
- 39:02With that,
- 39:04You knuckleheads, get back to work.
- 39:06Lunch hour is over.
- 39:08We'll see everybody next
- 39:09time on Lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 39:12Bye, guys.
