- 0:00Speaker 1: Back on the Yukon Hockey Coaches Show, our first two
- 0:03Speaker 1: player interviews Tray Scott a little later, but right now
- 0:05Speaker 1: it is the goalie you know him is Moose Tyler Muslik,
- 0:08Speaker 1: senior from Long Valley, New Jersey, playing in his final
- 0:11Speaker 1: year as a Husky. Before we get to Saturday in
- 0:15Speaker 1: the weekend with UMass, let's start with Senior Night.
- 0:18Speaker 2: The preceedings.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Your parents out there, your family out there, think about
- 0:22Speaker 1: all the sacrifices that they made, You've grown up as
- 0:25Speaker 1: a kid, those early wake up calls for practice, and
- 0:28Speaker 1: then you get that payoff for Senior Night. What was
- 0:30Speaker 1: that like for you and your family to go through.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Yeah, it was pretty cool.
- 0:34Speaker 4: I was actually really emotional before the game, which I
- 0:37Speaker 4: didn't expect to be. And I think just seeing my
- 0:40Speaker 4: parents out on the ice with me and having those
- 0:45Speaker 4: highlights on the board of all seven of us, and like,
- 0:48Speaker 4: how fast the time's gone by, and just you know,
- 0:50Speaker 4: I kind of you try not to think about it
- 0:52Speaker 4: during the year, especially when you're a senior, but how
- 0:55Speaker 4: little time we have left together and then moments like
- 0:58Speaker 4: that kind of reminds you of the time you have
- 1:00Speaker 4: left and just made me appreciate a lot. And you
- 1:03Speaker 4: know my parents growing up, obviously all hockey parents, they
- 1:06Speaker 4: go through it. It's a grind and a lot of work,
- 1:09Speaker 4: and your parents have to get you to a lot
- 1:12Speaker 4: of opportunity for you to even get to this point.
- 1:14Speaker 4: So me and all the other guys are definitely very
- 1:17Speaker 4: grateful for that as well. And just to have both
- 1:19Speaker 4: of them there on that night and to have them
- 1:22Speaker 4: watch me play is always a great thing, but especially on.
- 1:24Speaker 3: That night, it was a special.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Yeah, you mentioned the emotion, then you got to go
- 1:28Speaker 1: out and play. What's that like kind of gathering yourself
- 1:31Speaker 1: after that ceremony when the puck drops.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it was a little it was the
- 1:37Speaker 4: first time, honestly, I've had those emotions before I played
- 1:40Speaker 4: the game, so it was a little a little different
- 1:43Speaker 4: than normal. But we were on a five on three
- 1:45Speaker 4: three minutes into the game, so I guess that kind
- 1:47Speaker 4: of snapped me out of it pretty quick and just
- 1:49Speaker 4: went from there.
- 1:50Speaker 3: So I think that kind of helped me out a little.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Tyler, I have to ask, because the guy at the
- 1:54Speaker 1: other end stood on his head all weekend long.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Michael Robbo was just fantastic stick.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I know you have a job to do to keep
- 2:02Speaker 1: your focus, especially on Saturday the way your team dominated
- 2:06Speaker 1: the second period. But to kind of appreciate from Afar
- 2:08Speaker 1: what he did. What's that like watching a fellow goalie
- 2:11Speaker 1: be so zoned in like the way he was.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I have a lot of respect for him.
- 2:17Speaker 4: It's it's really cool to see some of the different
- 2:19Speaker 4: goalies in our league, and you know this year he's
- 2:21Speaker 4: one of the best, and to compete against him and
- 2:23Speaker 4: to watch him and the things he does well, especially
- 2:26Speaker 4: at his size, I'm grateful for it because not everyone
- 2:29Speaker 4: gets those opportunities to play against goalies like him.
- 2:31Speaker 3: And thinking my time in college, I've.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Played against some really good goalies and you know, even
- 2:36Speaker 4: when you're playing against me, you get to learn some
- 2:37Speaker 4: things from him and it's fun. And so he was
- 2:41Speaker 4: a good competition, and you know, I was excited to
- 2:42Speaker 4: play him because.
- 2:43Speaker 3: I know he'd been hot all year and.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Mostly in the second half, but he's had a great year,
- 2:48Speaker 4: and you know, it was exciting for me and you
- 2:51Speaker 4: always want competition, So it was great to play against him.
- 2:53Speaker 4: But at the end of day, I mean, he played
- 2:55Speaker 4: had a great weekend. He kept them in it at
- 2:58Speaker 4: some points in the games, and I got a respect
- 3:00Speaker 4: for him, and I'm sure I'll have a great career
- 3:02Speaker 4: after this year, and I'm sure I'll have a great
- 3:04Speaker 4: rest of the season.
- 3:04Speaker 5: But I mean, hopefully we play him again. That's all
- 3:07Speaker 5: you got to think about. So yeah, maybe coming up
- 3:09Speaker 5: sooner than you think. And in the Hockey East playoffs.
- 3:12Speaker 5: You're the number one goalie this year. You've carried the
- 3:14Speaker 5: load all season. Talking with cave a lot, he mentioned
- 3:18Speaker 5: you were prepared for this moment. What's this been like
- 3:20Speaker 5: for you, carrying the mail pretty much all seasons the
- 3:23Speaker 5: number one goalie.
- 3:25Speaker 4: It's been good. It's first time I've done this in
- 3:27Speaker 4: a couple of years, and I think sometimes it's easy
- 3:33Speaker 4: to think ahead and think about the next weekend and stuff.
- 3:35Speaker 4: And I think with the load I've had this year,
- 3:37Speaker 4: in the amount of games I played, it ke's feet
- 3:39Speaker 4: a lot easier for me to stay in the moment
- 3:41Speaker 4: and just take it day by day because things are
- 3:43Speaker 4: happening so fast, and I'm grateful that He's given me
- 3:47Speaker 4: the chance to play so many games, and I've learned
- 3:50Speaker 4: a lot. There's been some ups, and there's definitely been
- 3:53Speaker 4: some downs, as there are with every year, And for example,
- 3:56Speaker 4: I right now we're in a little bit of a rut,
- 3:58Speaker 4: and I'm definitely a little bit of a ruh and
- 4:01Speaker 4: just to get the chance to kind of play your
- 4:02Speaker 4: way out of it is really nice and not everyone
- 4:04Speaker 4: gets to do that, So I'm pretty happy about that
- 4:07Speaker 4: and just try and focus on giving our team the
- 4:09Speaker 4: best chance I can every night to win the game.
- 4:12Speaker 2: And that's really all Tyler. You mentioned the rut of
- 4:15Speaker 2: the team is in.
- 4:16Speaker 1: They've lost, well win lessen for a couple of last
- 4:20Speaker 1: weekend especially, you know, the Saturday game against BC and
- 4:23Speaker 1: then the Saturday game against UMass. What's what's the chemistry
- 4:27Speaker 1: been like? You know, you're down at the end of
- 4:29Speaker 1: the season. Here that NPI number is staring in the
- 4:32Speaker 1: face for your postseason live for the NCAA tournament. What's
- 4:36Speaker 1: it like in the locker room right now? Is it
- 4:39Speaker 1: obviously disappointment? But what else is there right now? How
- 4:41Speaker 1: do you keep how do you keep things together right
- 4:43Speaker 1: now as a group?
- 4:44Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think the biggest thing that we all
- 4:46Speaker 4: try to remind ourselves and focused on is that we're
- 4:49Speaker 4: playing manful hockey right now, and every game matters. There's
- 4:52Speaker 4: a lot of teams that at this point in the year,
- 4:55Speaker 4: their MPI score or whatever it is doesn't really matter
- 4:58Speaker 4: and they're focused on winning Hockey's championship, and obviously we're
- 5:02Speaker 4: focused on that too, but we're just grateful that we
- 5:05Speaker 4: have the opportunity to play right now for some meaningful
- 5:08Speaker 4: hockey games, especially Thursday and Saturday New Hampshire Providence. But
- 5:12Speaker 4: you know, I think everyone individually and his team goes
- 5:16Speaker 4: through routs at certain times and it's just how it goes,
- 5:20Speaker 4: and there's I think it evens out over time, and
- 5:23Speaker 4: you know, right now, we're just trying to get it
- 5:25Speaker 4: back on track right before playoffs start and hopefully come
- 5:28Speaker 4: out on fire from there, and that's kind of the
- 5:30Speaker 4: thing we're focusing on right now, and just trusting what
- 5:32Speaker 4: we've done all year.
- 5:33Speaker 3: I don't think we need to change anything just.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Because we lost a funeral rode, because it's worked all year,
- 5:38Speaker 4: and just really focus on what we do best and
- 5:40Speaker 4: just sticking to it and knowing that it's going to
- 5:42Speaker 4: come out and it's going to change at some point.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Kyler Music, Well, this is Yukon's netminder now. A lot
- 5:48Speaker 1: of times when I go interview cav for pregame the
- 5:50Speaker 1: games that we do on the radio, I see you
- 5:52Speaker 1: tossing balls up against the wall, juggling that sort of thing.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Walk me through a little bit of your pregame routine
- 5:57Speaker 1: before you get into the full pre game routine warm
- 6:01Speaker 1: up with coach Butler.
- 6:03Speaker 4: Yeah, so when I get to the rank, Honestly, my
- 6:06Speaker 4: pregame routine for a goalie, I think is a little
- 6:08Speaker 4: chiller than most. For the first fifteen to twenty minutes,
- 6:11Speaker 4: I kind of just relax and stretch whatever it feels tight.
- 6:15Speaker 4: I think, especially when we sit on the bus before
- 6:17Speaker 4: the games, I focus more on the stretching aspect, and
- 6:21Speaker 4: then a little less time we're out in my eyes,
- 6:23Speaker 4: but when we're at home it's probably a little more equal.
- 6:25Speaker 4: But just spend the first fifteen to twenty minutes stretching
- 6:27Speaker 4: out whatever feels tight to me, and then after that
- 6:31Speaker 4: we have a penalty kill meeting, So just go to
- 6:33Speaker 4: that meeting, usually around ten minutes long, and then after
- 6:36Speaker 4: that usually have ten minutes before teen meetings.
- 6:37Speaker 3: So I just kind of go through a routine and.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Tossing the balls off the wall in different directions, getting
- 6:43Speaker 4: both my hands warmed up. And just juggle for minute
- 6:47Speaker 4: and a half maybe after that, and then kind of
- 6:50Speaker 4: just relax and eat the same snack before pregame meeting,
- 6:54Speaker 4: and that's pretty much it.
- 6:54Speaker 5: After that, it just t my stick, get dressed and
- 6:57Speaker 5: go out there. You have the earbuds one, what are
- 6:59Speaker 5: you listening too?
- 7:01Speaker 4: I change it up a lot, but I kind of
- 7:04Speaker 4: just put on my like songs playlist and hit shuffle
- 7:07Speaker 4: and if there's a certain type of mood all in,
- 7:10Speaker 4: I'll listen to that type of music. But I really
- 7:12Speaker 4: like like a lot of chill music, DM music, house music,
- 7:19Speaker 4: country music. I kind of all over the place, and
- 7:21Speaker 4: you know, if there's a certain genre of field that day,
- 7:23Speaker 4: I'll play it, but overall there is none specific.
- 7:26Speaker 3: All right.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Finally, before we let you go, I imagine you and your
- 7:29Speaker 1: teammates watched the gold medal game a few weeks ago. Definitely,
- 7:34Speaker 1: what's it like watching Connor Hellibook play the way he did?
- 7:38Speaker 4: Yeah, it's pretty cool. I've been a big fan of
- 7:40Speaker 4: his for a while. Just I really like to watch
- 7:42Speaker 4: American goals to begin with, but I really like to
- 7:44Speaker 4: watch guys that are around my size and you know
- 7:47Speaker 4: play I don't play quite like Connor.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Hillibuck, but just to see how patient and control he is.
- 7:52Speaker 4: And I mean that game was it was really inspiring.
- 7:56Speaker 4: I mean I was the first time in a long
- 7:58Speaker 4: time where I've been watching a hockey game when I've
- 8:00Speaker 4: been sweating just from watching it. So it's pretty intense.
- 8:05Speaker 4: But I mean when they won, I couldn't even control
- 8:07Speaker 4: my emotions.
- 8:07Speaker 3: I was so pumped up.
- 8:08Speaker 4: And yeah, I just I love the United States and
- 8:11Speaker 4: it's just so cool to see those guys went on
- 8:13Speaker 4: the big stage and celebrate the way they did, and
- 8:16Speaker 4: they deserved it, and he had one of the best
- 8:18Speaker 4: goaling performances I've ever seen, so that on top was
- 8:20Speaker 4: pretty cool for me being a fellow goalie.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Right, And one more thing before I go that USA
- 8:25Speaker 1: jersey that you have worn on the national development team,
- 8:27Speaker 1: but the Olympic team wore the same style. That should
- 8:29Speaker 1: be the only jersey they ever wear. That is the
- 8:33Speaker 1: coolest jersey in hockey.
- 8:34Speaker 4: I agree, it's my favorite USA jersey as well.
- 8:38Speaker 3: I agree.
- 8:39Speaker 1: All right, Tyler, thanks for a few minutes. Good luck
- 8:41Speaker 1: this week and we'll see in the playoffs.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Thank you. I appreciate your time. Take care of it.
- 8:46Speaker 2: That is that is a time music with us on
- 8:48Speaker 2: the Coaches Show.
- 8:49Speaker 1: One of his defensemen, Tray Scott, next year on the
- 8:51Speaker 1: Yukon Sports Network from Learfield, Stay with us
