- 2:30in your car, remember this. We tried hundreds of oils in our laboratories
- 2:35and on the road before we developed heavy duty RPM. The motor oil that
- 2:39compared to premium type motor oils as designated by the American Petroleum Institute, doubles
- 2:46engine life between major overhauls due to lubrication. Now, performance reports from RPM
- 2:51users confirm it. One cab company, for example, found that heavy duty
- 2:54RPM more than doubled engine life, actually reduced engine where seventy one percent get
- 3:01heavy duty RPM motor oil for your car at any Standard station or independent Chevron

- 6:16about. Paris in the spring. Remember, enjoy an engine, and it
- 6:20will be my privilege to be your personal guide. Mademoiselle Blown America risk sweet
- 6:27votre servis. Oh see, yeah, I'll take that ticcond and auvoirs fifteen.
- 6:56I wonder if Turkish cops took you off for loitering. Come on,
- 7:00muster, come on, come on. You're of a one m Asian another
- 7:06quite a bridge. And according to the guide book, those lights over there
- 7:11should be the old Sultan's place. We should valentine. Oh hello, what's
- 7:19the tour? Yes, come in quickly, please shorry to eat sobist areas
- 7:30we should valentine. But believe me, it is necessary. Whatever you say.
- 7:34Where are we going? And there was a little coffee shopping the latter
- 7:38we can talk clear, Let me get this arrangement between you and there's Peter
- 8:00Iglascue, clear, mister tour It was not a very unusual arrangement, not
- 8:03here in Europe. And I let's say the Romany diamonds have been in the
- 8:07Eglascue family for a hundred years or more. You took them on a sort
- 8:11of consignment to sell them, and you protected mister Eglascue by giving him your
- 8:15personal note for two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. That's right, of course,
- 8:18I am insured with Europa, that is where they come in. And
- 8:22when did you find the diamonds gone? Almost a week ago? Iglesque and
- 8:26I are both staying at the Hotel Metropol. I was ready to show the
- 8:28stones to a visiting prince from Indian and they were gone. I would swear
- 8:33that only Egolescue knew where I kept him. Did you accuse him? No?
- 8:37In fact, I told him nothing about the theft. Why you would
- 8:41only deny it? And where would you look for four small stones? Let's
- 8:45see, in four days, according to our agreement, I will either have
- 8:48to return the stones to Egolescue because I was unable to sell them, or
- 8:52pay him the money. What did you think I'd be able to do for
- 8:56you, mister tour? I really do not know how. I am rush
- 9:00the best, right man? It's one thing I am sure about. What's
- 9:05Iglescue still has the diamonds here somewhere in Istanbul. It's a big place.
- 9:09Their Romani diamonds are too well known to the dealers. He could never sell
- 9:13the stones to them. And if he tries to, yes, you say,
- 9:16fence them, he would get practically nothing. So her friend will sit
- 9:20time until he gets the money from you, then later get rid of the
- 9:24stones somewhere else in Paris, England. And marya baby. Yes, yes,
- 9:30well, I'm sure enough. Change has appealed to his better as you.
- 9:31He hasn't believed me. He is charming and punished, but he is.
- 9:35His hardest is one of those diamonds he stored. He doesn't know other
- 9:41thefts, and he too lives at the metrophor what is it and listening allah,
- 9:46that's all. I may be brighter in the morning. That's right,
- 9:58Le Blanc. You heard me, But the detective, hotel detective at the
- 10:05Metropol. And if your influence goes that far, let the manage your actors.
- 10:07Though I've been a hotel detective there for quite some time. I shall
- 10:13not ask any more questions. I shall do what you are. Fine,
- 10:16Fine, it's just a hunch, but there's nothing to lose. Is there.
- 10:26Yes, I can hear some imitation. Roman need diamonds ready by tomorrow.
- 10:30Of course they will not fully real. Expect they don't have to.
- 10:33I don't look pretty close to the real thing, and I'll be satisfied,
- 10:35mister Tour. I see. But then you also say I shall have to
- 10:41play a power exactly like an ector. I can act. But don't worry,
- 10:46mister Tour. I'll coach you very thoroughly. Speak a little lot.
- 10:56I can hardly hear you. I want you to come to Istanbul and register
- 11:00at the hotel Metropole. You got that Metropol all right? You can use
- 11:03your real name, but I'm afraid you'll have to do a little acting acting.
- 11:07Yeah, you're a flipped globe American show gal on the make, on
- 11:11the make, especially for a wealthy, fat little frenchman named Ari Torre.
- 11:16Now, when you come to the lobby at the mine, the tall,
- 11:31dark gentleman over there is Peter Egles Brooks. Yes, George, Okay,
- 11:35let's start walking. And remember I wanted to see me in my job as
- 11:39hotel detective. I know and see me making a fight for mister Tour.
- 11:43But I tell you, I must find Siecie. She's not just my job,
- 11:46she's my good luck. Joe. Oh yes she has indeed, Miss
- 11:50Brooks and all of us here at the Metropole. She'll do our best to
- 11:52help you. Siecie always like men more than women. The other girl from
- 11:56the show always says she takes after me. This man. Maybe this gentleman
- 12:01here is a fie. Oh well, let me ask you. I beg
- 12:05your pardon, sir. Oh yes, mister Glescue, I'm the house detective.
- 12:09This is Miss Brooks, one of our guests. Hello, Miss Brooks.
- 12:16Yeah, Miss Brooks was wondering whether you'd seen her little black French poodle.
- 12:20The name is Fifi. It seems Fife is lost. Oh I'm afraid
- 12:24I have not seen her, and it is a shame. I cannot be
- 12:26of service to such a charming young lady. That's sweeter you just say that.
- 12:35Well, sorry, the body is said, Oh quite all right.
- 12:37Oh there's a distinguished looking now. Maybe he can help me. Oh that's
- 12:41mister two or miss Brooks. And if you'd like me to ask, never
- 12:45mind, I'll ask you myself. I've always been partial to the older and
- 12:50like I said, the sting voice type the very attractive girl show girl,
- 12:58mister Glescue. Oh, didn't have much trouble getting to talk to mister Tour.
- 13:03No, no, indeed, I can't tell how they do it,
- 13:05but they can spot money in a man a mile away. Well she went
- 13:09lost, Phoebee, but she show found mister Tour. Sorry to have bothered
- 13:13you, mister Glascume. Just part of my job, that's right, mister
- 13:28Tour. Sleep soundly pleasant dreams. What are those dons? Oh? Yes,
- 13:35they are nice, very nice. That will set the stage very nice.
- 13:43Ah, yep, that doesn't Good night, mister tor Good night,
- 13:48Monsieur Valentine. Hint, good law. Oh this is terrible, less cute,
- 14:03terrible. I certainly think you've treated me very badly too. What difference
- 14:07does it mcnow? Gentlemen please please yes, here's Monsieur Valentine. I am
- 14:13sorry. Look at my room. It has not been disturbed. I tell
- 14:16you I was robbed by a professional jewels. If to the diamonds, the
- 14:20romany diamonds are gone, I shall report that to the police. Do not
- 14:26want it, I want more publicity. It will only make deceive Hight.
- 14:31You are the detective Pacret of hotel You can hlp me. You should have
- 14:33called on me last week. It did not even tell me what happened.
- 14:37And the diamonds are really mine. But I explained it. Those diamonds last
- 14:41week for invitations cheap ought to carry around them to pay extra insurance prims.
- 14:46That is why I did not worry. And you are protected by that noted
- 14:50less cue, so I did not have to tell you anything. I still
- 14:52think you might at least just wanted you want me to tell must I understand
- 14:58you've been here in Easternbul long time. I am well, yes, and
- 15:01you will. You have had dealings with all sorts of people, all sorts.
- 15:09I want those diamonds pick. I will pay reward. I will ask
- 15:11no questions. Wow, that's always easier said than done. If someone stole
- 15:18the imitations, you should have been warned by that tour, but I was
- 15:22sure no one knew that I still had the real diamonds. You must help
- 15:24me find the Missieur Valentine. I'll certainly try. How can you even start
- 15:28to go about something like this, mister Valentine, If it's impossible, No,
- 15:33no, not impossible, mister Glascow. It's mostly a matter of beating
- 15:37a trap. Then you sit back and wait. In just a moment,
- 15:54we'll return to to night's adventure of George Valentine. Friends, If a sluggish,
- 15:58choke up motor makes your driving a constant chore rather than a pleasure,
- 16:03now is the time to shift to the gas with all eight Chevern Supreme balance
- 16:08blended for peak performance under all driving conditions. Chevern Supreme gasoline gives you not
- 16:14one, not two, but all eight high performance qualities. Fast warm up,
- 16:19quick starting, vaporlock prevention at enoch economy, mileage, area of blending,
- 16:26smooth acceleration, and full power. Your engine needs all eight of these
- 16:30qualities to do its job right and make driving a pleasure for you. You'll
- 16:36notice the difference right away from your very first tankful of Chevern Supreme. Remember,
- 16:41any gasoline can be refined to stress one performance feature at the expense of
- 16:45others. But Chevern Supreme is designed and refined to give you all eight high
- 16:49performance qualities incorrect balance. So for top all round driving pleasure. Wherever you
- 16:56drive in the West, stop in soon and fill her up at Chevern Supreme
- 17:00Gasoline at any standard station or independent Chevern gas station. Where they say and
- 17:07mean we take better care of your car. You go halfway across the world
- 17:26to Istanbul to try and recover a fortune in stolen diamonds. It's an unusual
- 17:32case because you are quite certain who the thief is, but how do you
- 17:36get him to give up the priceless loot. Well, if your name is
- 17:38George Valentine, you think the only chance is to set a trap with greed
- 17:42is the bait. So far, you've built only the first part of the
- 17:45trap, and even as sharp a gal as Brooksie can't quite figure out what
- 17:51the trap is supposed to be. I'll make your back at Paris as soon
- 17:57as I can imaginate you this. There's no place within your girl, not
- 18:02even with a charming guide like Monsieur LeBlanc. Especially not with a charming guide
- 18:06like Monsieur LeBlanc. George, I still having the faintest notion of what you're
- 18:10trying to do here. I thought we were supposed to be seen together,
- 18:11and now you're right here in the open with me. Now it's important that
- 18:15i'd be seen talking with you. It'd be very helpful if I were seen.
- 18:18Okay, maybe I'll find out what this is all about some other time.
- 18:22Oh, Brooks. He did a fine job, if its purpose is
- 18:23a little vague. Remember, I'm fumbling around in the dark myself. Yeah,
- 18:26I know, darling. The only thing I have been able to accomplish,
- 18:30I hope, is to put the first shadow of a down into a
- 18:33Glascue's mind. The real diamonds were stolen last night. He's going to wonder
- 18:37what he stole last week dollars. That's right, mister Glascue, and you're
- 18:52getting the bargain of the century. No, of course, you know.
- 18:56I can tell all of this to mister Thule, and the least that will
- 18:59happen to you then is that you will lose your job. You're not going
- 19:03to tour, are you. You see, it's an economically sound proposition.
- 19:07If I sell you these diamonds, you can have them and the money you'll
- 19:11get from mister tour and not notic is no, but that that girl,
- 19:14the American show girl. You didn't have to pay anything to her, Oh
- 19:18no, no, Now, she was very grateful that I letting get on
- 19:21that plane to Paris without calling the police. Yeah, I told her.
- 19:23I even did that because she was a fellow American. Oh, very decent
- 19:26of you. I'm afraid miss Brooks is not a professional criminal. She just
- 19:30succumbed to temptation at once. It was quite a hunch I had that she
- 19:34was our mysterious mis raffle. Now, how do I know that you have
- 19:37the diamonds? You'll have to take my word for it. Not good enough?
- 19:45All right? Yeah, no, I did not mean to doubt you.
- 19:53Look, I probably get a reward from Tour, but it wouldn't be
- 19:56anywhere near thirty thousand. So oh, I gain, and it's a good
- 20:00deal for you. Thirty thousand and American dollars isn't a deal. I will
- 20:07get the money. I will meet you at six near the Muscari, that
- 20:11is the musk with a large silver dome. So you really think you have
- 20:22him, as you say under hook, mischaur belint. At least there's a
- 20:26chance, mister Tour if you checked all the banks here and he's down boom,
- 20:29there are only a few large ones. I have friends in must of
- 20:32him. I know I Glescue account in them, and certainly no thirty thousand
- 20:34dollars transactions of any sort today. O God good, find right. I
- 20:38do not understand I think mister Iglescue needs one final bit of convincing that what
- 20:44I have here are the real romany diamonds, and I have an idea.
- 20:48He's going to try and convince himself. Yeah, I would gladly change places
- 21:07with you, brother boy up there on a minaret safe. What this place
- 21:15needs is more electric lights. Basic lesque could have chosen a meeting place and
- 21:22Lada Oh could have what's hey? Hey you? Oh, you're not gonna
- 21:30run away leaving at night? There are you? Take another throw? I
- 21:33mean fast boy. You know he's not a handy words. I know,
- 21:37but it's not gonna help you. Hey suck Oh that's great. Sure,
- 21:44don't want to chase him. Run back to the man who hired you,
- 21:47fezz boy, Metropole, Tell metrop we understand nobody, Okay, I won't
- 22:02worry. Just get this cab there quick. You're American hockey yankee fuck dash
- 22:10your fine me and name for Pukovitski puko Itallian fits rushed ste bullish, which
- 22:18all makes me Greek boy. Hooky kid. Yeah, change your preacher,
- 22:26Hey, what our going? No? Maybe engine go free me? Look,
- 22:32okayn, make it snappy? You help yankie boy, you can't cut
- 22:37it out you. He knocked you the hair. You'll need more than I
- 22:41k than a monkey runch you. You know who would think a glass you
- 22:48would playing a double chance to knock me off? You fail to keep your
- 23:02appointment at the musque carry mister in Gleskull. A bad failing of mine.
- 23:07A couple of your friends sort of pinch hit for you didn't pay, And
- 23:10I do not know what you're talking about anyway. You should know that you
- 23:14can't get anything without paying for you. Cannot blame me for trying to save
- 23:18myself some money. Oh it's done every day and the best of circles.
- 23:22I just came by to tell you that you've missed your chance by staying.
- 23:26The deal for the diamonds is off good. Oh no, let us not
- 23:30be too haste it. Oh I haste it all. I'm just being prudent.
- 23:33I don't like the way you play, so I'm going to turn the
- 23:36diamonds over the tour and settle for the reward. Cannot do that. They
- 23:38want to bet I'll pay you the money. No treat too late, thirty
- 23:41five thousand, not interested being a fool, A very bad feeling of mine.
- 23:47All right, you can come with me while I get the money.
- 23:48There will be no more tricks. I value my life too much. Friend.
- 23:52Besides, I already told mister Tour i'd be able to a Sweden an
- 23:56hour that I had a wal surprise. No listen, mister, but you're
- 23:59welcome to be there for the farrale. Did you get thenish of Valentine?
- 24:11How did you get them pick so quickly? Remember the agreement with the tour,
- 24:15No questions. Let's just say I was very lucky. I would look
- 24:18at those diamonds very carefully too. I will certainly demand to know they are
- 24:22the real ones before I give you back that note for two hundred and fifty
- 24:26thousand dollars or they are the real one. Oh make sure, by all
- 24:29means was the tour? After all, you yourself said there are some funny
- 24:33ones somewhere in Istamboul, the ones who were stolen a week ago. Yes,
- 24:36yes, I know. I am not an expert. I do not
- 24:38know the fine points of the stones, but I am not a fool.
- 24:42Well, I am almost sure, But of course I have an eyeglass in
- 24:47the other room. Why don't you get Yeah, let's get it. By
- 24:48all means, these diamonds are safe here, and I wouldn't want any sort
- 24:52of reward for something I don't deserve anything, you say, Monsieur Valentine,
- 24:56we will be right backing Gillescue. You cannot blame me of to be sure,
- 25:00of course? Not okay? That was fine too or fine? Did
- 25:07you see him snap for the big Do you think he must possibly work now?
- 25:10I gave it a funny, elaborate build up. You should have heard
- 25:12him actually begged me to take his money for the diamonds here I give the
- 25:15eyeglass, and I better give him enough time, not too long, not
- 25:18too short, just the right amount of time. You say, when we
- 25:21should go in? Do you hear anything in it? I think that's it,
- 25:29yes, in case he's easy. Did you get it too? Yes?
- 25:36Here it is the big moment is at hand for both of us.
- 25:41Say again that is right? He let me see now here his first one
- 25:48mm hm h h Well it is good or right? Fine? You'd better
- 25:53make very certain to these others mhm yes, yes, or if them are
- 26:03the real romany diamonds, no question at all. Well, as I said
- 26:07before, I shall have to have other expert opinion. With all due respect
- 26:11to your knowledge. You won't mind it, will you too? No,
- 26:15No, I will not mind the toll, And if I were you,
- 26:18i'd take that smug smirk off your facing less cue. It happens that he's
- 26:23right and you're wrong. But even though you think that the diamonds you've switched
- 26:26on us make those on the table phony, and the ones somewhere in your
- 26:30pockets are the good one. I do not know what you're talking. Maybe
- 26:33I can show you. Let's go pick your hands off me. What are
- 26:37you doing? Just building up to something that'll make you kick yourself all over
- 26:40the place where you stop that? No, you're struggling. Giscu Monsieur Valentine
- 26:45is a very determined young man behind. Yeah, here we are. Oh
- 26:48well those are these are the phony diamonds. I was carrying the ones you
- 26:55just took off the table when you put the good ones back on it.
- 26:57No, No, the ones eye stole from miss a tour with his complete
- 27:00cooperation. Oh but he is not. He's telling nothing but the tour.
- 27:04After all, since you had the real Romani diamonds all the time, we
- 27:07had to get him back somehow, and busting you obliged us sort of cheating,
- 27:12cheating, thanks a lot. You're not going to get away with it.
- 27:17This is the right, Ralah. I owe you something for all acute
- 27:21tricks you tried to teach that Fez boy in the cave, and here it
- 27:25is all splenty money fee. Now I have something else I must attend to
- 27:32in Paris. That guy le Blanc has too done good looking, and maybe
- 27:34Paris in the spring is not overrated. Check these advantages of buying with a

- 30:21Last year, more men than women died of cancer. There is no
- 30:25one man or woman, young or old, who can be sure he won't
- 30:27develop this terrible disease. It strikes one in five of us. Strike back

- 30:53heard overseas through the worldwide facilities of the Armed Forces Radio Service. This is
- 31:03the mutual Don Lee Broadcasting system. Welcome back, Well. The interesting Valentine
- 31:33Brooksie dynamic continues as George is not quite ready for commitment, but doesn't want
- 31:44anyone else to h to get Brooksie's affections either. So Yeah, as for
- 31:52the episode itself, I like this one. This was just a great change
- 31:57of pace. Of course, you have to acquire a bit of a scent
- 32:02of suspension, of disbelief about George being called in on this job, even
- 32:10though Bob Bailey in a few years would start playing Johnny Dollar. George Valentine
- 32:15wasn't Johnny dollars, so it's hard to imagine why he'd be called into this
- 32:22big South South American or not South American but international case. But once you
- 32:34get past that, it's it's a great episode and just a great of setting
- 32:39up this stick. This was just a great example of a battle of wits
- 32:44with a criminal. Just absolutely well done. When we turned down a listener
