- 1:15They shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.
- 1:21Life's circumstances will try to push you ahead of God, and perhaps even your
- 1:26own tendencies will try to move you in front of the plans that God has for you.
- 1:30But join us in this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries as Kim continues
- 1:35on a journey through the scriptures to discover the reward for waiting on God
- 1:40and allowing Him to have His perfect way in your life.
- 1:44Hello, and thank you for joining us in this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries.
- 1:49This is the second part of a multiple-part series on John 11, Waiting on the Lord.
- 1:57When we wait upon the Lord we receive the
- 2:00greater blessing because we get the plan
- 2:03that he has for us and we're in the center of his
- 2:06will so he's able to bless us and we've been
- 2:09looking at John chapter 11 and we started in
- 2:12the very beginning and we established that there
- 2:15was a personal relationship between Lazarus and
- 2:18Martha and Mary and Jesus we looked at how Christ delayed his coming and he
- 2:26did that intentionally and we see that whenever there was a problem that came
- 2:31mary and martha's way their first response was to come to jesus.
- 2:37And we see that we know that there was healing that had taken place before.
- 2:44And we know that Mary and Martha had witnessed it and seen it and no doubt talked
- 2:48to Jesus about it multiple times.
- 2:50But no one at that point had been raised from the dead.
- 2:54So Mary and Martha, had they gotten their way, would have received a miracle.
- 3:00They would have been excited and they would have loved what they've gotten.
- 3:05But it would have been far less than what God had planned for them when he did
- 3:08it his way because the greater blessing came from them waiting because by waiting until Lazarus was dead,
- 3:16then he raised him from the dead a miracle that had never taken place before
- 3:21a miracle that was far greater than the healing and so as we're looking at this
- 3:26passage of scripture in John chapter 11,
- 3:28what we're wanting to do is make sure that we see that God has a perfect plan
- 3:34for our lives, like he tells us in Jeremiah 29 11,
- 3:37and to make sure that we are patiently letting God work in us and through us.
- 3:44We want to make sure that we're not stepping ahead of God, that we're not impeding
- 3:48his plans, that we're not an obstacle in his mission in our lives.
- 3:54And as we begin to look at john chapter 11 and we're picking up at verse 15 we can see that.
- 4:01God showed us fully the importance of waiting on him and the rewards for waiting on him.
- 4:10In the book of Isaiah, it's a highly quoted piece of scripture,
- 4:15one that many Christians know and many Christians hold on to and one that gives
- 4:21us great hope and is very uplifting and encouraging.
- 4:25Isaiah 40 and verse 31 says this,
- 4:29but they that wait upon the lord shall renew their strength they shall mount
- 4:34up with wings as eagles they shall run and not be weary and they shall walk and not faint.
- 4:45Those that wait upon the Lord and do it God's way receive the strength and the
- 4:52resources they need to get the job done.
- 4:57Unfortunately for many of us, we take it on our own selves.
- 5:00We do it in our own strength, and we fall way short of the expected outcome,
- 5:06the intended outcome, and the potential outcome.
- 5:11Not because God wasn't faithful but
- 5:14because we weren't faithful to him and we didn't
- 5:17trust him Mary and Martha had a
- 5:20personal relationship with Jesus and we're going to see as
- 5:23we walk through this scripture that they each react to him differently and that
- 5:27reaction to him is directly associated and linked with their personal relationship
- 5:33with him and we're going to see that they speak to Jesus and Jesus speaks to
- 5:38them and he answers for them their questions.
- 5:41And he provides for them all that they need and he is glorified and magnified beyond compare,
- 5:49and far beyond measure than it would have been had it been done mary or martha's way,
- 5:56so as we begin to look at this scripture what i ask you
- 5:59to do is in your heart and in your mind i ask you to
- 6:02take a close look at how you walk through the day take a close look to see if
- 6:07you're running ahead of God and if you're getting up and slamming out the door
- 6:11without even reading his word or studying what he has to say or having a conversation
- 6:16with him to get your instructions for the day I assure you you're going ahead of him.
- 6:21I want you to see if you're an impatient child of the Most High God.
- 6:26Are you one that just has to have it now? And if he doesn't provide what you
- 6:30think he should provide, you go out and do what you can to get it.
- 6:34We need to learn to wait upon the Lord. Then we too can receive the blessings
- 6:40that Mary and Martha received. Shall we pray?
- 6:44Our kind and most gracious to your heavenly Father, Lord, we just thank you
- 6:46for this and other opportunity to come before you. We thank you for your love
- 6:50and your grace and your mercy.
- 6:52We thank you, Lord, that you do have a plan and that you know what is best for
- 6:55us and that you're willing to let us follow you and that you lead and your way is always right.
- 7:01It's always perfect, and it's always the best for us.
- 7:05Lord, I ask that you would open up my heart and my mind, and you would allow
- 7:08me to hear you clearly, that I might speak the words that you give to me.
- 7:12I ask that you would remove from us all distractions, all impediments,
- 7:18and that you would keep the devil far from us, and that Satan would have to
- 7:21get behind us and flee from us.
- 7:24Lord, open up your scriptures to us and show us things we've never seen before.
- 7:28And all these things we ask in thy most precious and holy name we pray and all of god's people said.
- 7:35Amen we're in the 11th chapter of the
- 7:38book of john picking up at verse 15 jesus
- 7:42says and i am glad for your sakes that i was
- 7:45not there to the intent you may believe nevertheless let
- 7:49us go unto him what we see
- 7:52here is that jesus is speaking to the disciples
- 7:55and he's just spoken of how lazarus was asleep
- 7:58and they thought he was just taking a nap and
- 8:01Jesus says no he was dead and what he
- 8:04was realizing was that he was going to come and he was
- 8:06going to make this Lazarus raised from the dead so for practical purpose he
- 8:12was sleeping because it was a temporary condition but for reality he was dead
- 8:17and so he wanted to make it very clear to the disciples what he really meant
- 8:22because he wanted them to see everything that was going on.
- 8:26He wanted them to understand the miracle that was getting ready to unfold in
- 8:31front of them. He didn't want them to be confused.
- 8:33He didn't want them to be misunderstanding the event.
- 8:37He was very clear to them and explained to them in ways that they could understand
- 8:42what they were just about to see.
- 8:45And what he says is, I'm glad that I wasn't there because by not being there
- 8:51you're gonna believe because you're gonna see something you've never seen before.
- 8:58You see, sometimes, my friend, that shadow in your path, that moment of somewhat difficulty.
- 9:09May be there that your strength would grow, that you could believe that you
- 9:13would know more of who he is, that your faith would be increased,
- 9:17that you would become more of what he intended you to be.
- 9:21Sometimes we go through things. They try us and they cause us trouble.
- 9:26But he said he would never leave us nor forsake us
- 9:29we're never alone he said that we could do all things through
- 9:31his strength we have what we need to persevere and
- 9:35he said he would supply all of his needs all of our needs
- 9:37according to his riches and glory we have what we
- 9:41need to move in the direction he's called us to
- 9:43move and sometimes we have that obstacle
- 9:47not to be a stumbling block but a stepping
- 9:50stone to greater faith and jesus
- 9:53is taking the time to explain this that he
- 9:56would like to strengthen their faith you see
- 9:59he was glad there was an occasion that it could happen because in
- 10:01hebrews 11 6 he says but without faith it
- 10:05is impossible to please him and you must believe that he
- 10:08is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently
- 10:11seek him faith isn't something
- 10:14that's an option folks and faith faith isn't
- 10:17something that stops as soon as we just
- 10:20grab the salvation get the personal relationship and
- 10:24walk out the door and say i'm done no jesus
- 10:28christ comes and lives inside of you in the form of the holy spirit and in second
- 10:32corinthians 5 17 he says behold all things are passed away and all things to
- 10:36become new and we're a new creature in christ jesus and we begin to grow in
- 10:40him and he teaches us and he leads us and he guides us.
- 10:46And our faith begins to grow as we see where he's brought us from,
- 10:49where he's taking us through, and where we're headed towards.
- 10:53We begin to see life a different way because this is in our home.
- 10:58We have a home not made with hands, eternal into the heavens,
- 11:01and we begin to be focused on those things above.
- 11:04We set our affections on things above and not on the things of the earth.
- 11:09God makes a difference in us, and that difference begins to grow as our relationship
- 11:16begins to grow and as our relationship begins to grow our faith increases,
- 11:22and faith is the key
- 11:25that unlocks heaven's door
- 11:27and we need to really look at who christ is to hear what he says to see his
- 11:35careful explanations of the things that go on in our life so that we have greater
- 11:42faith that he might reward us with the blessings that he has for us.
- 11:48Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus unto his fellow disciples,
- 11:52let us also go that we may die with him.
- 11:54Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.
- 11:59This confirms that Lazarus is long dead.
- 12:03There's no way that he was just sleeping. There was no trickery here,
- 12:08if you're inclined to believe that.
- 12:10There was no fake staging
- 12:15of lazarus's death lazarus has been laying dead for days now bethany was nigh
- 12:25unto jerusalem about 15 furlongs off and many of the jews came to martha and
- 12:31mary to comfort them concerning their brother.
- 12:34Many of the people knew that Mary and Martha had claimed to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
- 12:41And I believe they were coming to see the show.
- 12:45They were coming to wonder why Mary and Martha, with this great relationship
- 12:51with Jesus Christ, suddenly find
- 12:53themselves in need of healing of their brother and he doesn't show up.
- 12:57I don't imagine that every one of those people that came to see Mary and Martha came well intended.
- 13:02I don't imagine that they really come
- 13:05with comforting words i imagine some of them come
- 13:08saying hey i thought you were buddies with jesus i thought
- 13:11he was some big healer and physician i thought there
- 13:14was something special about him suddenly he's
- 13:18not there but i want you to see that
- 13:22as mary and martha walk through this scenario this story
- 13:25this real life happening in their life this
- 13:27event that is hitting them face to face that the people around them were fully
- 13:33aware of their relationship with jesus and it confirms that because they were
- 13:37coming they were coming to be there they obviously were prominent people at
- 13:44least to the extent that the people around them knew them.
- 13:48So here's the scenario. It's four days Lazarus is laying dead.
- 13:52All the townspeople and people from far and near have arrived to so-called give
- 13:58their comforting words and to be there for Mary and Martha.
- 14:03Verse 20 says, Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him.
- 14:11But Mary sat still in the house. they're
- 14:15two sisters both with a personal relationship
- 14:18with jesus christ both facing the
- 14:22same problem jesus comes
- 14:25into town and martha's all
- 14:28about action she's all about hearing him
- 14:31and running towards him she's all about moving
- 14:35towards jesus she's all about getting herself together and going towards christ
- 14:41she's all about not sitting and doing nothing she's all about taking the relationship
- 14:47that she has with jesus and using it and moving forward mary is all about stillness.
- 14:56And staying in the house and being still.
- 15:00If you're not careful, you'll begin to think that Mary was blowing off Jesus.
- 15:05That maybe she was a little bit upset. That maybe she was a little bit frustrated over the events.
- 15:12And so she wasn't going out to meet Jesus. After all, he had waited to come
- 15:17to see Lazarus and to do what she needed to do.
- 15:19So perhaps she would just wait until he got to her. Because what's the use to go see him now?
- 15:24If that's the take you take on mary's
- 15:28stance right here i ask you to look again
- 15:31and read the entire story because i insert
- 15:35this concept i believe mary
- 15:38was worshiping god and jesus and reverencing him
- 15:41just as much as martha was because in
- 15:45psalms chapter 46 and verse
- 15:484 and verse 10 chapter 46 and
- 15:51verse 10 he says be still and
- 15:54know that i am god in ephesians
- 15:576 13 he says having done all stand martha
- 16:02is acting upon the faith that she has
- 16:06inside of her and she runs to jesus she's all
- 16:10about being around him she's all about being in front of
- 16:12him she's all about worshiping him a very
- 16:15active way mary is all about
- 16:18reverencing him letting him understand that she's content in whatever state
- 16:23she finds herself in letting her know that letting him know that she is willing
- 16:28to stay there until he calls her willing to wait for him to give her the signal to move.
- 16:37Two different people.
- 16:40Two different reactions.
- 16:42One situation and one Lord.
- 16:47Verse 21 says, Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
- 16:55Here's Martha. She's ran out to him. He's four days late, I'm sure,
- 16:59as far as she's concerned.
- 17:01But she reiterates to him the faith she has in him.
- 17:05Again, if you think she's telling him off, saying, hey, man,
- 17:09if you'd have just been here four years ago, we wouldn't be in this mess right now.
- 17:12That's not what she's saying. She's not saying you're four days late.
- 17:16She's saying listen things haven't gone the way i
- 17:19want them to things didn't go the way i wish they would but
- 17:22i know in my heart and i believe with all i
- 17:25have that had you been here you are
- 17:28god you do have power you are the great physician you are the miracle worker
- 17:34you are the wonderful the counselor the mighty god the prince of peace you are
- 17:40emmanuel god with us i know who you are And just because the circumstances in
- 17:45my life are not what I want them to be,
- 17:47I'm not changing what I feel about you because my faith in you is not circumstantial.
- 17:52My faith is strong and it's from deep within because I know you and I have a
- 17:56relationship with you. How about you?
- 18:00When troubles come your way, when struggles bombard you.
- 18:06What's your reaction? Are you running to Jesus and saying, listen,
- 18:10I just want to be near you. I want to be around you.
- 18:13I want to wrap my arms around you. I want to be moving. I want to make sure
- 18:17I'm doing what you want me to do. But God, I know you're right.
- 18:20I believe Romans 8, 28, that all things work together for the good to them that
- 18:23love the Lord, that are called according to his purpose.
- 18:26I understand that I must love you the same regardless of the circumstances.
- 18:31I understand that I don't have a circumstantial face.
- 18:34I understand you're still God. Or are you the one going, what is this deal with
- 18:39this man we call Jesus? I need him and he's not here.
- 18:43Or suddenly you just turn your back on church altogether or on God.
- 18:47Because something has you up a myth tree. And you didn't get what you wanted
- 18:51or you didn't have life to work out the way you thought it would.
- 18:55Listen, let me tell you, we've all been there.
- 18:58I walked into a hospital room after day, after day, after day,
- 19:02after day. looking at my father laying in a hospital bed.
- 19:07And in my heart of hearts, I wanted nothing more than to walk into that hospital
- 19:13room and have my father say, come on, Kimmy, we're coming home.
- 19:16I wanted nothing more than to see my dad get up and walk out.
- 19:22I wanted nothing more than to one more time tie his shoes. I wanted nothing more than his healing.
- 19:30And you see, that wasn't in God's plans. I walked in there one day on the 15th
- 19:36day of October of 1999, like I'd done several, several days and weeks before.
- 19:42And I sat down at the edge of his bed and I did what I'd done every day.
- 19:46I prayed and I sang and I read scriptures.
- 19:50And then the death angel came. But you see, I saw my father sit up and I saw
- 19:56his eyes open up and I watched a smile come on his face from ear to ear. and he left this world.
- 20:02Wasn't a happy person. I had lost my life. I had lost my best buddy.
- 20:09I had a hard time understanding how that was right.
- 20:15And let me tell you what, I am not proud of it.
- 20:18But like many of you at that moment in time, I begin to wonder just how smart God was.
- 20:25And I begin to wonder just how right he
- 20:28was and the devil come flying in when
- 20:31I gave him an inch and for a moment in time I
- 20:34thought I prayed Lord and you said ask anything in my name and I'll give it
- 20:37to you and I prayed and I was living righteously and I had given my life to
- 20:42him and I was serving him with every capacity and I thought for a minute I thought
- 20:46if this is how you treat the ones that love you then so what I forget this is not for me.
- 20:53But then a still small voice beckoned in my heart.
- 20:58The Holy Spirit spoke to me and he said, my ways aren't your ways, but I am God.
- 21:09I wish that I could tell you that that was all I needed to turn me right side up and move me forward.
- 21:16But for the next several weeks and perhaps several months, I served him out
- 21:20of obligation. I served him because that's all I knew.
- 21:23I served him because it had worked for me for 25 years, and I didn't know any
- 21:27other way, so I was going to continue to serve him, but my heart was broken.
- 21:31And one night on a still early morning,
- 21:35that same still small voice in my heart came and said, I answered your prayers
- 21:41I was there I held your hand I spoke peace to your heart.
- 21:49Gave you joy and a peace that passeth all understanding and
- 21:53i gave him healing he's not
- 21:57sick anymore and it was his time
- 22:00and kim my ways are not your ways but you
- 22:03got to believe that i am right there wasn't any more wrestling with god at that
- 22:08time there wasn't any more things i had to say his scriptures that he opened
- 22:14up to me that night were crystal clear i lived on romans 8 28 until I could
- 22:20finally believe all there was in it.
- 22:23I walked it. I talked it. I did everything I could waiting for it to come into my heart.
- 22:28I prayed for everything that I could, that my faith would be increased.
- 22:34And you see, my friends, I had run to Jesus just like Martha.
- 22:39But instead of being like Martha and telling them, I know you're right.
- 22:44I don't like it, but I know you're right. But I went to him going, do you remember me?
- 22:50Do you know who I am?
- 22:54That's what I did. See, that's what you're doing when you go to him and say,
- 22:58you got it wrong this time.
- 23:00Or when you go to him and you just doubt his move.
- 23:05Mary waited patiently. And in the next lesson, we're going to pick up there.
- 23:10Marcia ran, but she ran in belief. relief.
- 23:15Where are you at right now? Are you ahead of God?
- 23:19Have you decided he needs to come to you for consultation?
- 23:23Where are you? The greater blessing waits because he says in Isaiah chapter
- 23:2940 and verse 31, but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.
- 23:35They shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not be weary.
- 23:38They shall walk and not faint.
- 23:41There's a greater blessing awaiting you in the center of his will. Thank you.
- 24:01Believe that every man, woman, boy, and girl must come to Jesus just like the
- 24:06woman at the well in John chapter 4.
