Latest / Time with God with John North / Psalms That Connect Us With God Pt. 4
Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. We're looking all this week at Psalms in
- 0:09Speaker 1: the Bible that reflect King David's beautiful relationship with God,
- 0:14Speaker 1: a personal, caring relationship that's growing.
- 0:19Speaker 1: As we look at these psalms, it just challenges us
- 0:22Speaker 1: and encourages us, doesn't it, to build a personal relationship
- 0:27Speaker 1: with God. Don't just be committed to God. Don't just
- 0:31Speaker 1: be committed to church.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Rather grow your relationship with God, not just your knowledge
- 0:39Speaker 1: about God, not just your knowledge of the Bible, but
- 0:42Speaker 1: rather go to the Bible to know God, to hear
- 0:45Speaker 1: from God, to respond to God, to talk to Him,
- 0:50Speaker 1: build a relationship with Him.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Each day we're looking at a different Psalm this week
- 0:56Speaker 1: that reflects David's relationship with God, and today Psalm 66.
- 1:02Speaker 1: In this Psalm, David has gone through some hard times,
- 1:05Speaker 1: and he's come out of them and has trusted God
- 1:09Speaker 1: through it all, and he just talks about it here.
- 1:12Speaker 1: He says, Shout for joy to God, all the earth,
- 1:16Speaker 1: sing the glory of His name. Give to Him glorious praise.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Say to God.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Ah, how awesome are your deeds. So great is your
- 1:27Speaker 1: power that your enemies come cringing to you. All the
- 1:31Speaker 1: earth worships you and sings praises to you. They sing
- 1:36Speaker 1: praises to your name.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Then he steps out of his direct conversation with God
- 1:44Speaker 1: and starts speaking to us. He says, come and see
- 1:47Speaker 1: what God has done. He is awesome in his deeds
- 1:51Speaker 1: toward the children of men.
- 1:53Speaker 1: He turned the sea into dry land. That's when the
- 1:57Speaker 1: people of Israel crossed the Red Sea as they escaped
- 2:01Speaker 1: from Egypt. They passed through the river on foot.
- 2:05Speaker 1: There did we rejoice in Him who rules by His
- 2:09Speaker 1: might forever, whose eyes keep watch on the nations. Let
- 2:14Speaker 1: not the rebellious exalt themselves. Bless our God, O peoples.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Let the sound of His praise be heard, who has
- 2:23Speaker 1: kept our soul among the living and has not let
- 2:27Speaker 1: our feet slip.
- 2:30Speaker 1: For You, O God, have tested us. You have tried
- 2:35Speaker 1: us as silver is tried. You brought us into the net.
- 2:41Speaker 1: You laid a crushing burden on our backs. You let
- 2:45Speaker 1: men ride over our heads.
- 2:48Speaker 1: We went through fire and through water.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Do you feel like that's you right now going through
- 2:56Speaker 1: fire and water? You're trying to understand why is God
- 3:00Speaker 1: letting this happen in my life? Why isn't He, uh,
- 3:03Speaker 1: setting me free from this difficult time, this painful situation.
- 3:09Speaker 1: You, God, have tested us. You've tried us as silver
- 3:13Speaker 1: is tried.
- 3:15Speaker 1: We went through fire and through water, and then listened
- 3:19Speaker 1: to him.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance.
- 3:27Speaker 1: No matter what you're going through now, hold on to God.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Trust God. He may be testing you, trying you, growing
- 3:38Speaker 1: you by teaching you to trust Him in difficult times.
- 3:42Speaker 1: But if you hold on to Him, obey Him, and
- 3:46Speaker 1: trust Him, He will bring you out.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Of that difficult time into a place of abundance.
- 3:54Speaker 1: He says, I will come into your house, God, with
- 3:58Speaker 1: burnt offerings. I will perform my vows to you that
- 4:02Speaker 1: which my lips uttered and my mouth promised when I
- 4:06Speaker 1: was in trouble.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I will offer to you burnt offerings of fattened animals
- 4:11Speaker 1: with the smoke of the sacrifice of rams. I will
- 4:13Speaker 1: make an offering of bulls and goats. That's in those
- 4:16Speaker 1: days how they showed their thankfulness to God. How can
- 4:20Speaker 1: you show your thankfulness to God if He's brought you
- 4:24Speaker 1: out of a really hard time into a place of abundance?
- 4:28Speaker 1: How will you show Him your thankfulness?
- 4:31Speaker 1: He goes on to say,
- 4:34Speaker 1: Come and hear all you who fear God, and I
- 4:38Speaker 1: will tell what He has done for my soul.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I really encourage you as you grow in your relationship
- 4:45Speaker 1: with God, just to be open about it with the
- 4:48Speaker 1: people around you. Tell them what God has done for you,
- 4:52Speaker 1: what He has done for your soul.
- 4:55Speaker 1: He says, I cried to God with my mouth, and
- 4:57Speaker 1: high praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished
- 5:02Speaker 1: iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.
- 5:06Speaker 1: But truly God has listened. He has attended to the
- 5:10Speaker 1: voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, because He has
- 5:13Speaker 1: not rejected my prayer or removed His steadfast love from me.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I'm John North.
