- 2:28Speaker 1: documentary on how SMU rose from the grave from the
- 2:35Speaker 1: death penalty in February of nineteen eighty seven, not playing
- 2:40Speaker 1: football for two years. It's going to be interesting, It
- 2:47Speaker 1: will be interesting. That's coming up in about ten days.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Florida law enforcement has arrested four people in connection to
- 2:54Speaker 1: the August thirty first shooting of Florida State linebacker Ethan Pritchard.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Pritchard remains in critical but stable condition in the Tallahassee

- 3:09Speaker 1: he'd been dropping off family members at an apartment in Havana, Florida,
- 3:14Speaker 1: when he was ambushed being shot inside his car. Three men,
- 3:20Speaker 1: Jaden Bottison, Corone Miller, Germany Atkins, and an unnamed miner

- 3:45Speaker 1: Texas Rangers have a day off this evening before beginning
- 3:51Speaker 1: a series in New York against the Mets this weekend.
- 3:55Speaker 1: The Astros got a much needed victory.
- 4:02Speaker 4: Are they playing right now? Oh, they're playing right now.
- 4:04Speaker 4: You're right.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I'm sorry. What's the score? Whose favor? Toronto's leading six
- 4:11Speaker 1: to nothing in the ninth. That's a shame. So the
- 4:17Speaker 1: lead would be back to two games over the Rangers.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I just now noticed that. But yeah, Christian Xavier got
- 4:31Speaker 1: the start. We will have the wrap up of that
- 4:34Speaker 1: game when it becomes vital, which should be pretty soon.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Eight Detroit Tiger.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Employees have been accused of misconduct toward women over the
- 4:44Speaker 1: last two years. According to a report from The Athletic,
- 4:49Speaker 1: forty five current and former Tiger employees were interviewed, including
- 4:54Speaker 1: four vice presidents.
- 4:56Speaker 4: The story says seven.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Of the eight were accused of mistreated women employed by
- 5:01Speaker 1: Illeage Sports and Entertainment. The allegations against the men ranged
- 5:05Speaker 1: from offensive comments to physical confrontation. Of course, the Tigers
- 5:11Speaker 1: had to release a statement about you know, being committed.
- 5:15Speaker 4: And to you know, respect and all of that.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Greg Norman has finally left Live Golf. He had been
- 5:26Speaker 1: behind the scenes after stepping aside for a new CEO,
- 5:29Speaker 1: but in an Instagram post today he acknowledged that he
- 5:34Speaker 1: is no longer with the organizations. But he talked about,
- 5:39Speaker 1: you know, creating plans and blah blah blah, but he
- 5:45Speaker 1: may be doing other things. I'm proud of what we accomplished.
- 5:48Speaker 1: My commitment was to do what was instill is the
- 5:51Speaker 1: right thing for golf and the players. We will see
- 5:55Speaker 1: what happens going forward. And former tennis player Andy Murray
- 6:02Speaker 1: says he's aiming to take part in regional qualifying for
- 6:07Speaker 1: the Open Championship.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Yeah Golf.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Murray says he's hoping to play in a preliminary round
- 6:14Speaker 1: for the twenty twenty seven tournament, explain he didn't think
- 6:18Speaker 1: he'd have any chance of qualifying for the main event.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Won a Grand Slam three times and is playing golf
- 6:27Speaker 1: up to four times a week, targeting bringing his handicap
- 6:31Speaker 1: to scratch. I don't have ambitions of playing in the Open.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I want to try and play in like the regional
- 6:38Speaker 1: qualifying at some stage, he told reporters today. A couple
- 6:42Speaker 1: of my friends have done it.
- 6:44Speaker 4: It would be just a.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Fun thing to do if you got to the level
- 6:47Speaker 1: where you're able to do that. I'm fully aware of
- 6:51Speaker 1: how good the players that play in these tournaments are
- 6:53Speaker 1: and how good the pros are compared to amateurs. Regional
- 6:58Speaker 1: qualifying will take place across fifteen locations in Britain and Ireland.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Tony tried to do that with the Cowboys, right. He
- 7:11Speaker 1: actually played in a couple of pro events. I think
- 7:14Speaker 1: I think he played in the Byron Nelson. Pretty sure
- 7:17Speaker 1: he didn't make the cut. All right, we're going to
- 7:20Speaker 1: take a break. We're going to come back. We're going
- 7:22Speaker 1: to hear from Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman.
- 7:27Speaker 4: After the final lap. Brought to you by and.

- 8:03Speaker 8: To say Connor Zillach had an amazing Exfinity Series season
- 8:06Speaker 8: would be an understatement. Nine wins, seventeen top tens, fifteen
- 8:10Speaker 8: top fives, and oh yeah, he's the regular season champion.
- 8:14Speaker 9: By no means do I get to a point ever,
- 8:17Speaker 9: I hope. I'd never get to a point in my
- 8:18Speaker 9: career where I become complacent and satisfied. You know, That's
- 8:23Speaker 9: that's why Jimmy Johnson's a seven time champion. You know,
- 8:26Speaker 9: he won five six Championships and you know, still outworked
- 8:32Speaker 9: everybody every week, and you know that's why I kind
- 8:34Speaker 9: of look up to him. Although the season's gone really well,
- 8:38Speaker 9: you know, every time a Cup guy comes down and
- 8:40Speaker 9: runs in the Xfinity Series, they set the bar to
- 8:43Speaker 9: a higher level, and you know, it's definitely humbling and
- 8:46Speaker 9: knowing that I'm in a race against thirty five of
- 8:48Speaker 9: those guys every week. Next year is always in the
- 8:52Speaker 9: back of my mind. And you know, at the same time,
- 8:54Speaker 9: you know, for me to be nineteen and having such
- 8:57Speaker 9: a successful year, I don't only think about the future
- 9:01Speaker 9: like I'm enjoying it each moment and each Sunday I
- 9:04Speaker 9: go home and I make sure that I enjoy it
- 9:06Speaker 9: with my family and my friends, and I celebrate these wins.
- 9:09Speaker 9: But you know, in the back of my mind, I
- 9:11Speaker 9: definitely have the thought of, you know, what can I
- 9:14Speaker 9: do to be better and what can I learn in
- 9:15Speaker 9: these races this year that will help me next year.
- 9:17Speaker 9: So yeah, it's it's a fine line, but you know,
- 9:20Speaker 9: I definitely try to enjoy each moment and not look
- 9:22Speaker 9: too far ahead of me, because you know, there's only
- 9:24Speaker 9: so much I can do at this point. But you know,
- 9:27Speaker 9: it's It's definitely tough to balance that.
- 9:29Speaker 10: This is the final app Oh, no stomach issues again,
- 9:33Speaker 10: stomach isshoes, who are you?
- 9:35Speaker 2: You're pancreas?

- 9:40Speaker 11: I thought it was my stomach.
- 9:42Speaker 10: People often do. But any of these symptoms could mean
- 9:44Speaker 10: having a condition called execrine pancreatic insufficiency or EPI. With EPI,
- 9:49Speaker 10: the pancreas doesn't release enough enzymes to break down food,

- 11:04Speaker 1: Coming up to Clark Eisenhower outdoor show in the second hour.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Also tomorrow, I'll visit with Kirk Bowles of the Houston

- 11:17Speaker 1: is tomorrow, Young Ryan will be in hosting things on
- 11:22Speaker 1: the program. Tomorrow Monday, we'll have the writers roundtable the
- 11:25Speaker 1: way we do every Monday.
- 11:27Speaker 4: In the second hour of the program.
- 11:31Speaker 1: The Aggie's heading to South Bend tomorrow to play Notre
- 11:35Speaker 1: Dame on Saturday evening.
- 11:39Speaker 4: On NBC. That's six point thirty.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Of course, we will have the game right here as well.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I believe, and I don't pay attention to these things.
- 11:48Speaker 1: We have Monday night football coming, Thursday night football coming
- 11:52Speaker 1: up tonight, right, Okay, it's Monday night football on Thursday,
- 11:59Speaker 1: or you know, that's a little confusing. But as the
- 12:01Speaker 1: game final, yes, zero six to nothing, that's a shame.
- 12:07Speaker 1: So the Astros lead down to two over the Rangers.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Now in the west, Seattle is also lurking, so don't
- 12:17Speaker 1: forget about that. Okay, let's hear a little bit from
- 12:22Speaker 1: Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman.
- 12:26Speaker 15: Kind of my message to the team over the past week,
- 12:29Speaker 15: and I'll kind of share with you is delayed gratification.
- 12:33Speaker 15: And I said, it's a difficult thing to really understand
- 12:37Speaker 15: and to talk about, especially when you don't get the
- 12:40Speaker 15: outcome you want.
- 12:42Speaker 16: Outside of our building.
- 12:44Speaker 15: You know, you're evaluated off one thing and that's wins
- 12:47Speaker 15: and losses. But inside the building, we must continue to
- 12:50Speaker 15: be mature enough to understand that the momentarily success.
- 12:56Speaker 16: Or failure is not what the goal is.
- 12:58Speaker 15: Our goal and our focus has to be to reach
- 13:00Speaker 15: our full potential and that takes understanding delay gratification. You know,
- 13:05Speaker 15: the first thing you want to do after you lose
- 13:08Speaker 15: is go play again.
- 13:10Speaker 16: You want to show everybody that we're good.
- 13:12Speaker 15: We've got a good team, but we didn't get that
- 13:15Speaker 15: opportunity this week. Obviously would a buy, but that shouldn't
- 13:19Speaker 15: be where our focus is. Our focus continues must continue
- 13:23Speaker 15: to be on improving, elevating, and doing the things it
- 13:27Speaker 15: takes to get our program closer to its full potential.
- 13:32Speaker 16: As we evaluated the.
- 13:33Speaker 15: Previous game, we understand are things we did well in
- 13:37Speaker 15: all three phases and things that we must improve. We
- 13:40Speaker 15: attack those things in practice this past week. So we
- 13:44Speaker 15: had a really good week of practice and we worked
- 13:47Speaker 15: on the things we didn't do so well and worked
- 13:49Speaker 15: on enhancing the things we did do well. And so
- 13:53Speaker 15: you know, as we get in the game, we're excited
- 13:55Speaker 15: to play at home in front of our home fans,
- 13:58Speaker 15: excited and expecting a great atmosphere, you know, for another
- 14:03Speaker 15: top twenty five matchup in Notre Dame Stadium. You know,
- 14:06Speaker 15: A and M is two and oh playing really well
- 14:08Speaker 15: in all three phases. Just you know Mike Elco coach
- 14:13Speaker 15: teams are tough, physical and they won't beat themselves on offense.
- 14:17Speaker 15: They're a veteran group led by their O line, really
- 14:21Speaker 15: good quarterback that can hurt you with both his legs
- 14:23Speaker 15: and his arms and his arm, deep deep running back
- 14:27Speaker 15: room and fast and talented skill on their offense and
- 14:32Speaker 15: defensively their there it starts with their D line and
- 14:37Speaker 15: you know, as you really evaluate their defense, they got
- 14:40Speaker 15: guys on all three levels that are talented and productive.
- 14:43Speaker 15: And so this will be another great challenge Saturday night
- 14:47Speaker 15: for our program.
- 14:48Speaker 16: So with that, I'll open up for questions.
- 14:50Speaker 8: Thordrow on your left, pe Burn and Marcus, could you
- 14:55Speaker 8: explain the response you got from your team last weekend,
- 14:57Speaker 8: whether or.
- 14:57Speaker 16: Not you were pleased with it or not. Response, the
- 15:00Speaker 16: response you got from your players, Yeah.
- 15:01Speaker 15: I think, you know, very similar to their head coach. Disappointed, frustrated.
- 15:09Speaker 15: You know, when you invest a lot into you know,
- 15:14Speaker 15: achieving a certain outcome, you know, and and the work
- 15:19Speaker 15: they put in and you don't get the outcome that
- 15:21Speaker 15: you desire, it hurts, and you know, there's sleepless nights,
- 15:25Speaker 15: there's loss of appetite. But what we have to do
- 15:29Speaker 15: is we had to turn that frustration into work and
- 15:33Speaker 15: we did. I was really pleased with the work that
- 15:37Speaker 15: was put in by our players, our coaching staff this
- 15:41Speaker 15: past week in terms of how to elevate right like,
- 15:44Speaker 15: how do we find a way to get better? You know,
- 15:47Speaker 15: we can't let the outcome, good or bad, distract our
- 15:54Speaker 15: eyes from from the reality of where we're at as
- 15:57Speaker 15: a program. Right, and as I told them, you look
- 16:00Speaker 15: last year and this year we're one to oh and
- 16:03Speaker 15: oh and one, but take away the outcome, like where
- 16:06Speaker 15: are we as a program in terms of trying to
- 16:08Speaker 15: reach our full potential?
- 16:10Speaker 16: And so.
- 16:12Speaker 15: They turned that frustration into work, and we have to
- 16:15Speaker 15: continue to be intentional.
- 16:16Speaker 9: This week, you said that you did attack some of
- 16:19Speaker 9: the areas where you thought you guys underperformed a week ago.
- 16:21Speaker 16: What were some of those areas?
- 16:25Speaker 15: There was a lot you know, takeaways, ball security, tackling
- 16:29Speaker 15: third down on both sides, short yardage two minute.
- 16:33Speaker 16: You know, those are things that we didn't.
- 16:36Speaker 15: Really execute well in last week's game, really starting fast
- 16:42Speaker 15: out of each half, right, the first half starting fast,
- 16:45Speaker 15: we didn't start fast. And in the second half coming
- 16:48Speaker 15: out of locker room, we didn't start fast. And so,
- 16:51Speaker 15: you know, starting fast is I think a general term,
- 16:55Speaker 15: but I mean, what how do you change that? As
- 16:58Speaker 15: you are the folk gets an intention is where it
- 17:02Speaker 15: needs to be on that play at that given moment,
- 17:05Speaker 15: and the execution will follow.
- 17:09Speaker 16: On your right, Tim Priest, which.
- 17:11Speaker 17: I'm going to paraphrase a little bit of what you
- 17:13Speaker 17: said after the game, but you said something on the
- 17:15Speaker 17: lines of you played hard, but not hard long enough.
- 17:22Speaker 16: How do you like, how do you assess that? Well?
- 17:25Speaker 17: When you analyze that and came out of the game,
- 17:28Speaker 17: why did that occur?
- 17:29Speaker 15: You know, I always say the team that plays harder,
- 17:31Speaker 15: longer usually is the one that's successful. You know, you
- 17:35Speaker 15: really look at the last drive of the game and
- 17:39Speaker 15: defensively and offensively, you know, we couldn't get to stop
- 17:43Speaker 15: defensively that we needed.
- 17:45Speaker 16: We we you know, let them into field goal range.
- 17:49Speaker 15: There was a couple of times where you know, they
- 17:51Speaker 15: were displacing some of our guys. We're missing tackles. It's
- 17:55Speaker 15: not a lack of effort, right, it was just a
- 17:58Speaker 15: lack of.
- 18:01Speaker 16: Execution.
- 18:01Speaker 15: But also credit to them in terms of those guys
- 18:05Speaker 15: played extremely hard and they finished the game better than
- 18:10Speaker 15: we did.
- 18:10Speaker 16: And you know.
- 18:12Speaker 15: Even we get the ball on offense, we did, you know,
- 18:14Speaker 15: the sack or intentional grounding and the last plays of
- 18:17Speaker 15: sack and at the end of the day, like those
- 18:20Speaker 15: crucial moments, you got to play harder, but execute.
- 18:23Speaker 17: At the same time, you mentioned tackling defensively, but what
- 18:29Speaker 17: were the priorities going into the off week?
- 18:33Speaker 15: You know, I mean most of our mistackles probably weren't
- 18:35Speaker 15: in space.
- 18:36Speaker 16: They were more in the box.
- 18:37Speaker 15: And the ability to make sure we're driving our feet,
- 18:41Speaker 15: we're wrapping up. You don't want to make excuses saying
- 18:46Speaker 15: this first game mistackles, but we got to tack them
- 18:48Speaker 15: in practice. And so we can't go live tackling, you know,
- 18:54Speaker 15: just for the safety of our team, but we have
- 18:57Speaker 15: to be intentional about finding ways to tackle different equipment,
- 19:03Speaker 15: maybe even people to the ground, uh, defensively, and and
- 19:07Speaker 15: that was something that we really, uh we were intentional
- 19:10Speaker 15: about last week, you know. And then when you fed,
- 19:13Speaker 15: you got a fed, right, and that means you stop
- 19:16Speaker 15: the ball carrier's feet. That doesn't mean you take them
- 19:18Speaker 15: to the ground, but you got to stop their momentum
- 19:20Speaker 15: before you let them go. And uh, something we had
- 19:23Speaker 15: to make sure we do in practice.
- 19:24Speaker 16: Front row on the left, Jacksonville a good treeman.
- 19:28Speaker 18: I think of the non rared and tight ends. Only
- 19:30Speaker 18: Ty Washington got like one snap against my amailis for PFF,
- 19:34Speaker 18: where are you tie? And Jack Larsen and James flannagadad
- 19:37Speaker 18: in terms of being able to help you goues on
- 19:38Speaker 18: the field.
- 19:39Speaker 16: Yeah, they're improving.
- 19:41Speaker 15: You know, we're just last game we did you know,
- 19:45Speaker 15: didn't feel like that was what we wanted to do
- 19:48Speaker 15: to attack their defense, but we had a lot of
- 19:52Speaker 15: confidence in the tight ends room, and uh, those guys
- 19:56Speaker 15: are getting better and if it calls for playing more
- 19:59Speaker 15: of this week, they will.
- 20:01Speaker 16: As far as the week two by week?
- 20:03Speaker 18: What what did you feel like we're the benefits of
- 20:05Speaker 18: that having that early in the season after a Sunday game.
- 20:08Speaker 15: Yeah, I think you guys have heard me speak enough.
- 20:11Speaker 15: I look at every situation as a positive and so
- 20:15Speaker 15: how could we you know, get a couple guys healthy
- 20:18Speaker 15: but also have some some good on good periods where
- 20:22Speaker 15: we're not just game planning or doing scout work, and uh,
- 20:27Speaker 15: have some competitive opportunities where you know your ones are
- 20:30Speaker 15: going against ones or two's and you know we can
- 20:33Speaker 15: play it. And so you know, it wasn't your typical
- 20:36Speaker 15: game week practice where you're doing a lot of scout
- 20:39Speaker 15: at work. It was a lot of good on good
- 20:41Speaker 15: practice reps.
- 20:42Speaker 16: On the right side. Tim o'mealley cose you mentioned turnovers.
- 20:45Speaker 19: Creating turnovers, it's something you guys work on all of April,
- 20:48Speaker 19: all of August. So when you come out of a
- 20:50Speaker 19: game and I'm sure you identified a bunch of options
- 20:52Speaker 19: where you could have or should have created a turnover,
- 20:54Speaker 19: how do you work that in practice? Because to reinforce it,
- 20:57Speaker 19: you've been doing it for months.
- 20:59Speaker 15: How do you rein Yeah, I think part is being
- 21:03Speaker 15: intentional about trying to disrupt the ball, take the ball away,
- 21:06Speaker 15: and that was something they did a good job of
- 21:10Speaker 15: having ballsk The other part is is we've got to
- 21:12Speaker 15: go make plays, you know, and and balls in the air,
- 21:16Speaker 15: the ball's not coming to you, you got to go
- 21:18Speaker 15: get it. And so when we've really worked on trying
- 21:21Speaker 15: to high point the ball, going to get it, not
- 21:23Speaker 15: letting it come down to you, right, being aggressive getting
- 21:28Speaker 15: the ball at that at its highest point. And so again,
- 21:32Speaker 15: turnovers usually come and you know, high numbers, right, and
- 21:37Speaker 15: but we just got to keep working it and working it,
- 21:39Speaker 15: working it, and uh, I'm sure before we know it,
- 21:42Speaker 15: we'll get.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Some Marcus Freeman Notre Dame done an outstanding job, played
- 21:48Speaker 1: for the National championship a year ago. UH enters the
- 21:54Speaker 1: contest on Saturday evening with a freshman quarterback who has
- 22:00Speaker 1: played one game.
- 22:01Speaker 4: He played.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Decent, certainly against Miami. I think he got better as
- 22:10Speaker 1: that game went on. He doesn't have near the experience
- 22:15Speaker 1: that Riley Leonard had last year when he led the
- 22:19Speaker 1: Irish to the National championship game.
- 22:22Speaker 4: So I think A and M has an advantage there.
- 22:27Speaker 1: That's a good advantage to have at quarterback. And I
- 22:33Speaker 1: just don't know about the lines of scrimmage which will
- 22:36Speaker 1: determine the football game, which we've talked about all week,
- 22:39Speaker 1: and we'll visit with Tony Catalina tomorrow in the Aggie
- 22:43Speaker 1: Football Preview. Looking forward to seeing what happens with the
- 22:50Speaker 1: line of scrimmage tomorrow night or Saturday night. That will determine,
- 22:55Speaker 1: in my mind, the winner of the game. Unless somebody
- 22:59Speaker 1: gives the ball away four times or something like that,
- 23:01Speaker 1: I don't expect that to happen.
- 23:04Speaker 4: Notre Dame doesn't do that a lot, So.
- 23:09Speaker 1: It should be interesting broadcast here on the Zone, National
- 23:14Speaker 1: TV on NBC.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Coming up, we.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Have got a high school report to give you. We've
- 23:25Speaker 1: got that going on for us, which is nice. We're
- 23:28Speaker 1: gonna hear from.
- 23:29Speaker 4: Scooby coming up.
- 23:31Speaker 1: A little bit also, and then we have got our
- 23:35Speaker 1: Clark Eisenhower Outdoor show coming up for you. I'm on
- 23:43Speaker 1: my way to the to Ranger Doug and Riders in
- 23:47Speaker 1: the Sky tonight at Opus. I know they were there
- 23:52Speaker 1: last night. That was the added show. I got my
- 23:54Speaker 1: original tickets for the Thursday night show, so I'm looking.
- 23:58Speaker 4: Forward to that.
- 23:59Speaker 1: And I in case you missed our interview with Ranger
- 24:03Speaker 1: Doug or anyone else that we had on, including Bill
- 24:06Speaker 1: O'Reilly yesterday and so many more, you can go to
- 24:09Speaker 1: our website. I don't talk about this very much because
- 24:14Speaker 1: you know, I'm not an interweb expert, but at chip
- 24:19Speaker 1: hower dot com we've got interviews and all of not all,
- 24:25Speaker 1: but the vast majority of the interviews that we've done
- 24:29Speaker 1: are up there. Certainly the ones that I specifically said, hey,
- 24:34Speaker 1: we need to put that one up because that was
- 24:36Speaker 1: pretty good, so you could go.
- 24:39Speaker 4: And listen if you missed the show.
- 24:40Speaker 1: I don't know how that would happen or why it
- 24:42Speaker 1: would happen, but you could go on and listen to
- 24:46Speaker 1: that as well. So we've got that going on for you.

- 25:13Speaker 1: less important things. But the folks at Galeria know about relaxation.

- 26:19Speaker 7: but honestly, I never know what to say.
- 26:21Speaker 2: How about we're CNJ Barbecue. We make barbecue. It's good.
- 26:26Speaker 2: People like it. That's why we've been here smoking meats

- 26:34Speaker 2: If you need more convincing, well maybe you just don't
- 26:36Speaker 2: like happiness.
- 26:37Speaker 7: Either way, we'll be here smoking meat like we always do,
- 26:40Speaker 7: serving up happiness on a tray.
- 26:42Speaker 2: CNJ Barbecue. Let's see hi.

- 28:05Speaker 21: Who's a kind of welcome to the high School Report.
- 28:07Speaker 21: I'm me at Williams and today we're going out to
- 28:09Speaker 21: the Polaris Fun Center phone line to visit with head
- 28:11Speaker 21: volleyball coach for the Huntsville Hornets, Cody Hassel.
- 28:14Speaker 4: Cody, how are you doing today?
- 28:16Speaker 22: I'm well, thank you very much.
- 28:18Speaker 21: Looking back at your last match on Tuesday, what were
- 28:20Speaker 21: the biggest positives you saw from your team's performance.
- 28:24Speaker 22: We've been trying to get the middles going, our middle
- 28:27Speaker 22: attacks and our middle hitters, and they stepped up and
- 28:30Speaker 22: did a really good job. They've come a long way
- 28:32Speaker 22: since the beginning of the season. We've talked to the
- 28:35Speaker 22: team about having a balanced attack and I think we're
- 28:39Speaker 22: approaching district right about the right time.
- 28:42Speaker 21: And how do you think the team handled pressure moments,
- 28:44Speaker 21: especially in tight sets or during momentum swings.
- 28:48Speaker 22: You know, that's always a challenge in sports, and you know,
- 28:52Speaker 22: we have come a long way over the years that
- 28:54Speaker 22: since I've been here, and a lot of our biggest
- 28:57Speaker 22: hitters and actually even key players or some of our
- 29:01Speaker 22: younger players. So they're having to step up in those
- 29:05Speaker 22: pressure moments that they've never had to do before. But
- 29:08Speaker 22: they're learning, and that's why we have a preseason, you know,
- 29:11Speaker 22: before we start the district play.
- 29:13Speaker 21: And were there any standout individual performances you'd like to highlight?
- 29:19Speaker 22: Our liberro Sydney Paschal. She had twenty three digs in
- 29:23Speaker 22: the match. She's been doing a really good job of
- 29:26Speaker 22: taking control of the back row. And like I said,
- 29:29Speaker 22: our two middles got going. I think combined they had
- 29:32Speaker 22: seven blocks. That's Peyton, Dennis and annabel Mura. And Annabelle
- 29:38Speaker 22: is a returner to varsity as a junior, but Peyton,
- 29:41Speaker 22: who's also a junior, this is her first year on varsity.
- 29:45Speaker 21: And what challenges did your team face during the match
- 29:48Speaker 21: and how do you plan to address them in practice?
- 29:51Speaker 22: One of our biggest challenges has been trying to figure
- 29:55Speaker 22: out how to be mentally ready and prepared to play.
- 29:58Speaker 22: You know, we came out and played obviously our worst
- 30:02Speaker 22: set of the match in the first or the first set,
- 30:05Speaker 22: and then came out and you know, we're finally warm
- 30:08Speaker 22: and warmed up. So we had a team meeting yesterday.
- 30:11Speaker 22: We've talked about some things we want to change, both
- 30:13Speaker 22: coaching wise and player wise in order to help us
- 30:16Speaker 22: to be prepared. So we get to practice that tomorrow
- 30:20Speaker 22: night for our home game, and uh, then we'll be
- 30:23Speaker 22: able to repeat it again on Tuesday. Uh. And ironically,
- 30:27Speaker 22: there's for high school sports, there's a lot more distractions
- 30:30Speaker 22: at a home game than there is a way an
- 30:31Speaker 22: away games.
- 30:34Speaker 21: And was there anything unexpected about your opponent's strategy or
- 30:37Speaker 21: performance that surprised.
- 30:39Speaker 22: You, No, not at all. You know, Madisville is just
- 30:42Speaker 22: down the road. A lot of these kids played club together. Actually,
- 30:47Speaker 22: our varsity assistant coach, she coaches several of them in club,
- 30:51Speaker 22: and so we kind of knew the kids pretty well.
- 30:55Speaker 22: And it's just a matter of executing. And you know
- 30:58Speaker 22: the thing about volleyball, it's a game momentum, and when
- 31:01Speaker 22: it's on your side, you can beat anybody. And when
- 31:04Speaker 22: it's not, you know, it's a it's a real struggle.
- 31:08Speaker 21: And what can you tell us about your next opponent
- 31:09Speaker 21: and how you're preparing for their style of play.
- 31:13Speaker 22: Cold Spring is a smaller school, but they are extremely athletic.
- 31:18Speaker 22: Their program has grown a ton over the last two years.
- 31:23Speaker 22: Last year they made the playoffs, actually beat the district
- 31:31Speaker 22: champion in the last game of the season. So we
- 31:35Speaker 22: just looking for somebody that you know, they're going to
- 31:37Speaker 22: have a lot of energy and a lot of times
- 31:39Speaker 22: when you play those smaller schools, this is kind of
- 31:42Speaker 22: their super Bowl of the season, not counting playoffs, so
- 31:45Speaker 22: they get to play, you know, a little bit bigger school.
- 31:47Speaker 22: They're going to give everything they've got. That's really what
- 31:50Speaker 22: we need and that's what we need to go against.
- 31:51Speaker 22: And it'll be a good final game right before we
- 31:54Speaker 22: go into the district.
- 31:55Speaker 21: And are there any specific areas you're focusing on improving
- 31:58Speaker 21: before the upcoming game.
- 32:00Speaker 22: You know, volleyball is a game of serve and services,
- 32:03Speaker 22: and at the very beginning of the season, several of
- 32:07Speaker 22: our players we're servi receiving over a two point zero
- 32:12Speaker 22: and then we kind of hit a lull in the
- 32:13Speaker 22: middle part of it might be because in the tournament play,
- 32:16Speaker 22: we played some really tough six stay schools and our goal,
- 32:19Speaker 22: one of our goals for tomorrow is to get our
- 32:21Speaker 22: team average over two point zero. Again uh in serve
- 32:25Speaker 22: receive and we say, whoever services the best is going
- 32:29Speaker 22: to win the match.
- 32:31Speaker 21: And how are you keeping the team mentally and physically
- 32:33Speaker 21: fresh during the stretch of the season.
- 32:36Speaker 22: Routine. We have a really great strength conditioning coach here,
- 32:42Speaker 22: so we go through the same routine. We in practice
- 32:45Speaker 22: at the at the same time and start practice at
- 32:47Speaker 22: the same our start our weight room at the same time.
- 32:50Speaker 22: So we're trying to you know, keep them mentally tough
- 32:53Speaker 22: in that area, but also keep them in the routine
- 32:56Speaker 22: so they know exactly what they're doing every day. And
- 32:58Speaker 22: the nicest part about season being over is it will
- 33:01Speaker 22: be in the same routine every day until the end
- 33:03Speaker 22: of the season.
- 33:06Speaker 21: And what has the preseason and early regular season revealed
- 33:09Speaker 21: about the identity of this team.
- 33:13Speaker 22: We have a few people that have stepped up. You know,
- 33:15Speaker 22: We've got a couple of hitters, Sophia Moreno and Chloe Layman.
- 33:20Speaker 22: They've been getting you know, they get the most of
- 33:23Speaker 22: the sets throughout the match, and so we've got to
- 33:27Speaker 22: keep them on and in control. But then, like I said,
- 33:31Speaker 22: we're trying to change our identity a little bit to
- 33:34Speaker 22: make sure that our middles are highly involved. They're both
- 33:38Speaker 22: really tall, they both jump really high, and they can
- 33:40Speaker 22: do some things that other kids on other teams can't do.
- 33:44Speaker 22: So as long as we can get them going and
- 33:46Speaker 22: continue to progress as the season goes on, I think
- 33:49Speaker 22: we'll be able to possibly shock some people because of
- 33:52Speaker 22: our attack it through the middle.
- 33:54Speaker 21: Yeah, and you spoke about specific team members. How have
- 33:57Speaker 21: returning players stepped into leadership roles this year? With people
- 34:00Speaker 21: leaving obviously.
- 34:03Speaker 22: You know, I had a team meeting with the seniors
- 34:06Speaker 22: last week just letting them know, you know, hey, we
- 34:08Speaker 22: you know, no matter what your role is on the team,
- 34:12Speaker 22: playing wise, this is still your team. And several of
- 34:16Speaker 22: them play back row we don't have except for Sophia Marino.
- 34:19Speaker 22: She's our only senior that's playing in the front row.
- 34:23Speaker 22: And you know, those those guys, those guys and gals
- 34:26Speaker 22: have got to continue to push to motivate their teammates
- 34:31Speaker 22: to keep them focused on the prize. And both of
- 34:34Speaker 22: our setters this year are seniors as well, so they're
- 34:37Speaker 22: able to lead the offense and keep them in control.
- 34:40Speaker 22: And we meet with them pretty regular about what our
- 34:43Speaker 22: game plans are and what we want to do.
- 34:46Speaker 21: And lastly, here what are your goals for the season.
- 34:49Speaker 21: How would you define success as a team and how
- 34:51Speaker 21: do you feel like the team is progressing towards.
- 34:53Speaker 22: Them well as far as success goes, I tell the girls,
- 34:57Speaker 22: whether we win or lose a match, if we can
- 35:00Speaker 22: off the court and know that we did everything we could,
- 35:02Speaker 22: we executed our game plan and we played with our hearts,
- 35:05Speaker 22: then we can walk off the court with our head
- 35:07Speaker 22: up high and continue to get better each day. You know,
- 35:11Speaker 22: we came from a district the previous four years where
- 35:16Speaker 22: half of the district schedule all we had to do
- 35:18Speaker 22: was walk in the gym and we would get a win,
- 35:20Speaker 22: and we got first or second in the district. You know,
- 35:23Speaker 22: for four years in a row. Now Here we are
- 35:26Speaker 22: in districts with aevantolidated college station Montgomery, Lake Creek, Rudder
- 35:32Speaker 22: and Brinham and it's one of the toughest five eight
- 35:34Speaker 22: districts in the state. And so you know, we we've
- 35:38Speaker 22: got to continue to keep pushing. You know, we don't
- 35:41Speaker 22: have as many girls that play year round volleyball as
- 35:44Speaker 22: some of the other schools do. So our biggest uh
- 35:47Speaker 22: you know, this last year was kind of tough for
- 35:49Speaker 22: us because it's the first time we haven't made the
- 35:51Speaker 22: playoffs in several years. So for me, one of the
- 35:54Speaker 22: biggest goals is to get back into that postseason.
- 35:58Speaker 16: Very well.
- 35:58Speaker 21: Put well, thank you so much for your time, mister Hassell.
- 36:03Speaker 22: Thank you, sir very much. Thanks for having us.

- 42:44Speaker 22: See how many is.
- 42:45Speaker 25: The defense for an Unday team that he was able
- 42:49Speaker 25: to run the ball a little.
- 42:49Speaker 5: Bit effectively on yere Okay, the top ten team to
- 42:53Speaker 5: country a team that you've got over come Saturday. We're
- 42:57Speaker 5: gonna be prepared.
- 42:58Speaker 30: But until down we saw a lot of stuff to
- 43:00Speaker 30: work out, a lot of kings so iron, so we'll
- 43:02Speaker 30: be prepared about Saturday, though, what do you go.
- 43:05Speaker 29: Through your mind as mine back when you're going up
- 43:08Speaker 29: against the team and they have a running backs that
- 43:11Speaker 29: are as Kylie Talers.
- 43:13Speaker 30: It's one of the reasons why you come to a
- 43:16Speaker 30: school like Tasty and them, because you know what type
- 43:18Speaker 30: of talent you're gonna play weekend a week out and
- 43:20Speaker 30: it's just one of the weeks where you got to
- 43:21Speaker 30: play somebody really talented. So you gotta go out there
- 43:23Speaker 30: and showing that you're turning into as well because a
- 43:26Speaker 30: SEC ball man come on looking.
- 43:28Speaker 20: At that run game.
- 43:29Speaker 19: Just what do you see from Love and Price and
- 43:31Speaker 19: just kind of the way that they complement each other
- 43:33Speaker 19: through the skill sets.
- 43:35Speaker 30: We played Love last Oh, we actually played both of
- 43:38Speaker 30: them last year. Both on great backs, very intelligent backs.
- 43:41Speaker 30: They know what the they know the defenses game probably
- 43:44Speaker 30: gonna be. So just wrapping them up, making sure we're
- 43:46Speaker 30: taking to the ground handling when we need to actual
- 43:50Speaker 30: way Antell in his body because they're both gifted.
- 43:53Speaker 5: They do both some gifted backs.
- 43:55Speaker 29: You remember that game being maybe more physical than you're
- 43:59Speaker 29: used to physical than.
- 44:00Speaker 13: An SEC game works.
- 44:02Speaker 16: What's you know the.
- 44:02Speaker 30: Same kind of uh No, I think coach Freeman do
- 44:05Speaker 30: a good job of teaching this. Boys tried to play physical.
- 44:07Speaker 30: So it was it was physical. It w wasn't that
- 44:09Speaker 30: I ain't seen before, but it wasn't. They wasn't not
- 44:12Speaker 30: physical as well.
- 44:13Speaker 5: So just gave me more hurtles game last year? Right?
- 44:16Speaker 30: Even what about that, I don't know, come on with
- 44:18Speaker 30: team that kind of took me out side. It was
- 44:21Speaker 30: kind of you know, not to them the same.
- 44:25Speaker 16: Hurt last year.
- 44:26Speaker 29: I don't think you could make a much bigger impact
- 44:29Speaker 29: on this.
- 44:29Speaker 30: Game or what could never Like, i'm'a just do my part,
- 44:33Speaker 30: not try to be a superman. Uh, just do my
- 44:36Speaker 30: one eleven. I trust my teammates and if I make players,
- 44:39Speaker 30: I make players, and my teammate plays, I'm gonna celebrate
- 44:41Speaker 30: with them.
- 44:42Speaker 5: Boys, How do you keep those guys from breaking out the.
- 44:44Speaker 4: Longs the guy last year?
- 44:46Speaker 30: Just staying disciplined, like like I said, my fuck boss man,
- 44:49Speaker 30: doing your one of eleven, staying focused through all four
- 44:53Speaker 30: quarters when stuff don't get hard, when the crowd get loud.
- 44:57Speaker 30: Just being in tune with yourself and your teammates. So
- 45:00Speaker 30: defenses at the eleven person job and everybody got to
- 45:02Speaker 30: do they one the eleven.
- 45:04Speaker 31: You know, these uh non conference kind of stretch games,
- 45:07Speaker 31: the games gets a power player winners. How much are
- 45:10Speaker 31: they was exciting for the days to get the register
- 45:12Speaker 31: from the outside of the conference.
- 45:14Speaker 30: That no rioting in st I grew up Matt Ta
- 45:18Speaker 30: Tao fan and his name the linebacker Matt ty Tail. Yeah,
- 45:20Speaker 30: I grew up one of his fans.
- 45:21Speaker 5: Man.
- 45:22Speaker 30: So just being able to go play at Notre Dame,
- 45:24Speaker 30: that's always been like a I wanna say it's a
- 45:26Speaker 30: dream of mom, but it's something I could definitely cross
- 45:28Speaker 30: off my list because who who gets to say they
- 45:30Speaker 30: did that? Especially when we play sec ball and that's
- 45:32Speaker 30: not really your forte playing up there.
- 45:34Speaker 5: So yeah, this.
- 45:36Speaker 31: Game has been on the books for like a decade.
- 45:38Speaker 31: How much when you were getting recruited or for coming
- 45:41Speaker 31: Jay and them that.
- 45:42Speaker 13: You did you know that games that they've been to
- 45:44Speaker 13: the l.
- 45:46Speaker 30: When I transferred last year, I knew he was playing
- 45:48Speaker 30: the first game. I thought the contract was up, so
- 45:50Speaker 30: I thought they had went to them before and then
- 45:52Speaker 30: that was the last time we're gonna see him, but
- 45:54Speaker 30: apparently were gonna see him again this year.
- 45:55Speaker 5: So that's what it is.
- 45:57Speaker 2: What if you're were able.
- 45:58Speaker 5: To get well can win that?
- 46:00Speaker 29: What do you think it.
- 46:00Speaker 5: Leaves like this team just a step in the right direction.
- 46:03Speaker 30: It's a long season, so you gotta take a week
- 46:05Speaker 30: by week in reality, so we win. That's gonna be
- 46:08Speaker 30: a huge step for the fans. U's the program. But yeah,
- 46:12Speaker 30: we gotta take a week by week. After that the
- 46:13Speaker 30: bad week and after that, whoever we played that week.
- 46:16Speaker 15: Excu we how just basically playing the same Pennsilgiana as
- 46:19Speaker 15: last year.
- 46:19Speaker 30: You guys prepare for this, uh knowing they tennis is
- 46:24Speaker 30: a bunch of good players, and you don't forget good players.
- 46:26Speaker 30: So just just remember how physical they was and the
- 46:29Speaker 30: stuff you could jump and harness on that can give.
- 46:31Speaker 30: But like some type of get they tendencies away. It'll
- 46:34Speaker 30: help with the tennessees a lot. So yeah, how about.
- 46:36Speaker 27: The quarterback car What do you see from him just
- 46:38Speaker 27: on the tape that that you guys.
- 46:40Speaker 5: Have on there.
- 46:45Speaker 30: Yeah, uh, he's holler keep he got weapons around him.
- 46:48Speaker 5: Yeah, nothing too much.
- 46:51Speaker 31: You personally a back too good back to back weeks.
- 46:54Speaker 16: What are you seeing?
- 46:55Speaker 1: How are you feeling and how are you been super
- 46:56Speaker 1: back to.
- 46:56Speaker 3: Black foruple weeks?
- 46:57Speaker 5: Uh?
- 46:58Speaker 30: Trusting in the game plan, trusting in my coaches, and
- 47:00Speaker 30: trusting in my teammates as well.
- 47:02Speaker 16: Uh.
- 47:02Speaker 30: Them boys do a good job of doing their job,
- 47:04Speaker 30: which allows me to do my job at a full
- 47:07Speaker 30: speed now that I'm healthy. And yeah, man, coach be
- 47:10Speaker 30: putting in great game plans and it's out to us
- 47:12Speaker 30: to learn them.
- 47:13Speaker 5: Uh God, that execute.
- 47:15Speaker 21: How rest It was cascious On Saturday.
- 47:21Speaker 5: I was on the field and I'm saying it live.
- 47:22Speaker 30: I'm like, yo, he just wanted then he want again,
- 47:25Speaker 30: Like yo, he did it three times, and I wanted
- 47:27Speaker 30: to turn up with him, but I didn't want to
- 47:28Speaker 30: take none of your time, man, so I just let
- 47:30Speaker 30: that boy do him.
- 47:31Speaker 5: But that was.
- 47:31Speaker 30: That was, honestly one of the craziest things I've seen.
- 47:34Speaker 30: And I've been around a lot of good paths russers,
- 47:36Speaker 30: but that was. That was one of a con right there.
- 47:39Speaker 16: How would you just assess your place of Martha two games?
- 47:42Speaker 5: Sure?
- 47:43Speaker 16: How would do you? Guys?
- 47:43Speaker 13: That's your point of barthas Uh.
- 47:46Speaker 30: I didn't play it cool, like I didn't play it good.
- 47:48Speaker 30: But it's always roomful improvement. I can, I can. I
- 47:53Speaker 30: can work on a lot of things. I ain't gonna
- 47:54Speaker 30: say what, but I can work on a lot of
- 47:56Speaker 30: things going into like this stretch of big games we
- 47:59Speaker 30: got ahead of us. You know what I'm saying. It
- 48:00Speaker 30: was good warming up, you know what I'm saying, getting
- 48:02Speaker 30: my LIGs back up under me, knowing with it tight
- 48:04Speaker 30: to compete for a whole four quarters. But yeah, it's
- 48:06Speaker 30: a It's a lot of stuff I could work on.
- 48:08Speaker 30: It's always room to approve.
- 48:10Speaker 16: Where would you say you threw proven motin so I.
- 48:12Speaker 30: Fixing him mentally also physically too, probably like disengaged in
- 48:16Speaker 30: our blocks too, knowing was coming from the offense, knowing
- 48:20Speaker 30: I don't know. We mentioned being a forty player, being
- 48:23Speaker 30: a forty player. So yeah, have you.
- 48:25Speaker 19: Guys been satisfied cleaning up some of the you know,
- 48:28Speaker 19: defensive execution lapses that you'll have in the first week
- 48:31Speaker 19: been kept after.
- 48:32Speaker 16: That second game.
- 48:32Speaker 30: I wouldn't say were satisfied, cause we still mess up
- 48:34Speaker 30: on quite a bit of stuff. But like I said,
- 48:37Speaker 30: it's always room for improvement. And that's what a coach
- 48:39Speaker 30: of hell cub being harness and all finishing coach Babeman finishing, York, finishing,
- 48:43Speaker 30: so just the whole team just been focused on finishing.
- 48:46Speaker 30: So we won't we really won't be done to prove
- 48:47Speaker 30: until the end of the season, open through your mindset.
- 48:50Speaker 31: Last year just playing the entire season, not an hundred percent.
- 48:54Speaker 16: I believe Mantell was throw oh yes.
- 48:55Speaker 30: Year, Uh that I ain't transfer over here for no reason.
- 48:59Speaker 30: Like I I call my mom when it happened, and
- 49:00Speaker 30: she basically told me that, and I was like, yeah,
- 49:02Speaker 30: you're right. And now my teammate did. They did a
- 49:04Speaker 30: good job of just appointing me whenever I felt down.
- 49:07Speaker 30: My coaches they created like a great plan for me
- 49:10Speaker 30: throughout the week in order for me to be able
- 49:12Speaker 30: to play on Saturdays. So yeah, once you, once you
- 49:16Speaker 30: was arounded by whole group of good guys like like
- 49:18Speaker 30: my past teammates, with my teammates now, yeah, make it
- 49:21Speaker 30: real easy. And I had a real huge support system
- 49:24Speaker 30: to help me a well. Oh and the fan base
- 49:27Speaker 30: shout out to.
- 49:28Speaker 1: Now, shout out to the fan base from Scooby. Uh,
- 49:32Speaker 1: it's been played good. Gonna need everything on on Saturday
