- 0:33I'm so drunk. Two.
- 0:42Welcome back to hamster with a blunt penknife Doctor Who
- 0:44commentary podcast where Joe and I are still in Atlantis and once
- 0:49more static? Yeah, very static in this
- 0:54direction. You have to say anything as
- 0:56absurd as welcome back to Afghanistan a blunt penknife the
- 1:00other points of your life. No, but you know I'll take it
- 1:05I'll take it to thank you very much.
- 1:09How do you feel About, you know, a very eccentric.
- 1:14Shall we say story now, suddenly taking a turn for I'm at would
- 1:20say it's dark but it's it's a lot of a lot more serious in
- 1:25Evans. But then I think it has to try
- 1:29and deliver all done some of the Jeopardy that was promised at
- 1:34the beginning because if you've got a man who is determined to
- 1:40blow up the world, he has to at least try and do that.
- 1:44Or the audience is cheated of the because otherwise, the
- 1:49Jeopardy that's gone before isn't isn't worth anything.
- 1:52If he's easily defeated, it has to come, there has to be some
- 1:56destruction. It has Come down to the water a
- 1:58little bit. And from what I can see, from
- 2:01the tally snobs, they had a bloody good stab at flooding.
- 2:05Lee says, it looks like it doesn't it that must have been a
- 2:07long Joseph. First actually goes underwater,
- 2:10doesn't it? He's yeah, almost submerged.
- 2:13So he may have been submerged by the end, but we obviously we
- 2:16don't see that. But yes, it looks like it, but
- 2:18for such a comic character, that's a pretty graphic way to
- 2:22go. Hmm, justifies.
- 2:26Well I suppose I mean he's he the way the characters going he
- 2:32is either going to destroy or be destroyed.
- 2:36It's not a point where he's going to be quietly arrested and
- 2:40taken off somewhere. So it's it was going to, it's
- 2:46going to happen violence. He's going to occur at someone
- 2:49because I'm trying to think of like other madly over-the-top
- 2:52villains and what their exits are.
- 2:53But I'll keep going back to Peter Jeffrey at the end of
- 2:55Android. Tarah.
- 2:59Next time, we will not be so lenient was there recently, you
- 3:05know, Leeds Castle? Yes, it's beautiful, honestly
- 3:09visit, if you can well, okay, I mean, I've got more questions
- 3:13for you for within this episode, but should we jump in?
- 3:16Yeah, let's do it. Okay, well, I'll, I'll count as
- 3:20in you, did the intro in five, four, three, two, one, Off we
- 3:26go, I'm not at all convinced Lucy that people watch the
- 3:30episodes. Alongside these college awful, a
- 3:32just listen to the commentary. As you know.
- 3:35That's fair enough. I've tried a couple of times
- 3:38myself though, with older ones. It does work a tree.
- 3:42Do you like listening out there? That's why it's designed for,
- 3:46right? Okay, a still of a pistol.
- 3:54Yep, I still of zeref looking well actually.
- 3:58Looks like I'm sorry looks a little bit aroused their then he
- 4:03know, I'm sorry. Not sorry to hold up your bread.
- 4:07Go on. Oh she's going to hands.
- 4:11Thank you. Thank you very much.
- 4:13Who looks disapproving. Okay, I'll need a bit more help
- 4:21with the plot. Okay.
- 4:23So obviously I know the plan is that they're off is going to
- 4:28destroy the world by tipping the ocean.
- 4:33Yes. Our Volk it down into the molten
- 4:36crust of the earth. Yes.
- 4:37And detonating the planet. Yes.
- 4:41Um, so what goes wrong? So the doctor and the doctor
- 4:46floods, the He does something to the power station.
- 4:53Then you one of the nuclear power plants.
- 4:56Is that the world whenever got off the food?
- 4:58Yes. Okay, so that Revolution.
- 5:02Yeah, and that that causes part of the Sort of retaining walls
- 5:09to collapse and then water comes in but in the wrong place and it
- 5:13floods the power stations and the laboratory.
- 5:17Okay, though. So nothing.
- 5:20So it won't work the. So the mechanism is won't work
- 5:23that he is planning to use relied on occasion of Earth
- 5:27where they divert the bomb, you know, they just the water.
- 5:30Yes, only more complicated and wetter much wetter.
- 5:34Yes. Yes.
- 5:35I have a lot of water in it, almost like this.
- 5:37Titanic style drama, but even so.
- 5:42Yeah. Break down the sea walls and
- 5:43flood the laboratory. He says, there's only one thing
- 5:46that's worrying, me. What's that?
- 5:47Can we all swim? Exactly the doctor.
- 5:53Yes, and he said he quite matter-of-factly as well.
- 5:56These are not not sort of humorously.
- 5:58Not like like I said it, you know what I try on for, you
- 6:02know, one of the most irreverent doctors his murder count.
- 6:07On or rather his Lucien by killing is pretty high.
- 6:12In Peril the Daleks, he he causes a lot of death but in
- 6:18this he was to go back further off, doesn't it?
- 6:22Yes. He says like, yeah, no, I can't
- 6:26even though he is. Batshit crazy.
- 6:28I've gotta go back and I don't fancy exact line.
- 6:31But pretty much though, but Ben isn't having any of it, so
- 6:34that's good. Does he drag him away then been?
- 6:36Yes. Yeah.
- 6:39So this is our of talking to the people in the power stations who
- 6:42are saying that one of the station's isn't isn't operating.
- 6:45The workers of deserted are the seaweed for at least an hour
- 6:49looking for food. Why Food Supplies have arrived.
- 6:53And also word he's getting round that there isn't any food.
- 6:57So people have panicky, both sides but they're they're under
- 7:00the water. There's a lot of fish down
- 7:02there. Yeah.
- 7:04But they're, you know, they're in a sort of weird air pocket
- 7:06thing, aren't they? So I don't know how they, I
- 7:08don't know how it works. I don't have any idea.
- 7:11I mean there's a lift because that's how the doctrine I got
- 7:13down so they could have just got a few takeaways and stuff, you
- 7:16know, and maybe Donald put it in the lift for 500.
- 7:23So he's the doctor and been about to try and sneak into the
- 7:26power station and another delightful moment.
- 7:30Well, this is yeah, I love the way they get the password
- 7:33offering. Are we gonna get past?
- 7:35Ye walked past him? What in those trousers?
- 7:39Do you think some of this is that lived I wouldn't be
- 7:41surprised at this. Feels like Michael craze getting
- 7:44revenge for the marketplace, doesn't it?
- 7:47Yeah. Although possibly not, I don't
- 7:50know but but I love the way that been improvises anyway.
- 7:55You know? Oh well it's alright.
- 7:56You giving me the old chat? I know nothing about passwords.
- 7:58I've been chasing this book all day.
- 8:00That's quite a strong word, it for Doctor Who but it's good
- 8:04because Ben, he's a real character.
- 8:07He's a real person from the first moment he appears in the
- 8:11walk-in the war machine. He always gets like, you know,
- 8:16my old mucker and things like. Yeah, but he's, but he's a full
- 8:19Ibiza fully rounded person from the first time you see it.
- 8:25I think Ben is brilliant in the war games.
- 8:28I'm not sure he's you Utilized that well again you know know
- 8:32and like you said with with bringing Jamie and as well
- 8:35there's kind of the imbalance between the two.
- 8:38It's difficult with the two characters but but yeah it
- 8:41wouldn't I mean the way he reacts to the machine in the
- 8:45shed fat is absolute active naked terror, isn't it?
- 8:49Yeah and there's this big cold ball thing.
- 8:51The big thumb po more than everybody's going.
- 8:53Yeah. But because of his reaction to
- 8:55it what we said to me is about the performance that takes it
- 8:59from absurd. Too scary.
- 9:00Yeah. When they're bees working.
- 9:02Somebody. What about in the macro Terror
- 9:05when he goes bad and he is really quite menacing?
- 9:10Yeah, cheering Polly. The end of episode 2, it's kind
- 9:15of torn between helping her because he loves her yes obeying
- 9:20his instructions. It's a great performers, it may
- 9:22yeah. It is, why see them, right?
- 9:24He's came. And you know, I've heard the
- 9:27neck Anika will say, you know what?
- 9:29A shame because he was a genuinely charismatic actor, who
- 9:33just didn't get the work. He deserved.
- 9:36Yeah. The oars and he's brilliant.
- 9:40Also it for this, this sort of time, I know it was the time of
- 9:4560s and things were happening elsewhere, but to have an actor
- 9:49in a major. What Bailey major television
- 9:52show on the BBC, whose accent wasn't RP?
- 9:56Yeah. Well, they wouldn't let do do a
- 9:57day. She started off with a Manx
- 10:01accent and then suddenly went RP within one story.
- 10:05Yeah. I'm gonna have to say this.
- 10:08All right. So please forgive me but better
- 10:13and Jamie in this story and in this episode in particular, in
- 10:16these wet suits, I mean, this is the holiest episode of swear to
- 10:20God, they look absolutely beautiful.
- 10:24I'm going to lower the tone too much but gosh, they are
- 10:26attractive man. They are they really are.
- 10:28Yeah, I mean and I canno droning.
- 10:32It says, on the screen low droning, droning increases, It
- 10:37if it was a very harsh light on them there in that cave.
- 10:40Oh this is this is the nuclear powers that the this the wall is
- 10:45now glowing with radiation. I like this, where he/she says
- 10:49that and he goes, what's that? As she goes?
- 10:51So well with a bit difficult to explain.
- 10:53Yes, how the hell would you explain radiation?
- 10:57You wouldn't do it. When it was melting the wall in
- 10:59front of you. Would you you just concentrate
- 11:02on getting away and now the water is starting to come in you
- 11:06know food. Through your wonderful
- 11:08explanations of the plot. I'm now seeing there is a
- 11:11logical through line with this story as weird as it is.
- 11:16You know the the actions have consequences which lead us to
- 11:21this conclusion I just thought it was a lot of random stuff
- 11:26going on in Flash. Always still is but I mean I'm
- 11:32not saying it's you know crafted or art the underwater Menace but
- 11:38maybe there was a touch of thought put into it I think so.
- 11:42Yeah. So I think era would have been
- 11:45quite nice companion. She would wouldn't she?
- 11:48Yeah but that I think the same of the handmaiden in the time
- 11:53monster as well. The aunt the one that Joe hangs
- 11:58out with in the time monster Yeah.
- 12:01Coming through the mouth. Yes, and the on.
- 12:04Yeah. And is that literally, is that
- 12:11it's a that water pouring in the whole Temple going over, isn't
- 12:14it? Yeah, the statues the, the giant
- 12:16head is now on its side and is collapsed.
- 12:19That's a bit spectacle for Doctor Who it is.
- 12:22Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:23That my job. I think we're kind of moving in,
- 12:25we're moving away from the sort of weirdness of the heart and
- 12:29we're into that sort of, right. We're gonna have a few good set
- 12:32pieces in trout and Zira, hmm? Because like in moon base, you
- 12:36got the sidemen trajan over the moon, you know?
- 12:38And that's pretty sweet. Well in the moon base itself as
- 12:41well with what would be the inner rooms and the hospital
- 12:44room and that you get, that feels again, that feels like an
- 12:48actual physical space, doesn't it?
- 12:50Yeah. Absolutely.
- 12:51And then they very realize, don't they?
- 12:53If we actually have a contained setting, we can spend a bit of
- 12:57money on that setting. Yeah.
- 12:59And up the tension as well because if it's a contain
- 13:02setting, then it's claustrophobic.
- 13:04So whereas this is a bit of an anomaly because it is
- 13:07technically a contain setting. Oh well it is quite vast.
- 13:12Isn't it for ya? Oh sort of culture and local or
- 13:15geography and Yeah. Oh this is where Polly gets a
- 13:22bit whimpering she does, she's worn out.
- 13:25Yeah, it's a bit of a shiny. And you know what, in macro
- 13:28Terror as well. I know she's being menaced by
- 13:31enormous crabs coming out of the dog.
- 13:34I can't really comment because I've never happen to me.
- 13:36Is I don't know how I'd react. Nobody's.
- 13:41It's sort of. It happens to her a few times in
- 13:43this. It's like, oh, I need to sit
- 13:45down. Oh, I'm tired.
- 13:46Oh, I did. And it she's the only character
- 13:50that that happens to do. You know what, Nyjah Robinson
- 13:55writes in the book? No, I'm gonna people deserve the
- 14:01full Wonder water minutes experience with this commentary.
- 14:04He actually so Jamie does slap her org and the line written
- 14:10Nigel opposite. There that shut her up.
- 14:13That's actual line in the book, lovely.
- 14:16Yeah, it's a bit. Troubling the few lines like
- 14:20that in Niger orbison's books. So now the house is Devastated.
- 14:27He's let down his people. Yes.
- 14:30And there's some of them. Have some of them have managed
- 14:32to get out, but they are leaving out.
- 14:35I think they're going to close off one of the the good closing
- 14:38off the exit so the water doesn't get through but they are
- 14:40leaving One open just in case there's some last few people and
- 14:43the high priest has gone back to the temple whilst I think this
- 14:49is well realized like we said in episode three because there's
- 14:53been so much comedy and really listen is it?
- 14:56Kind of hard but now they're all going.
- 14:58Oh, you know, we're all gonna die and and it's like, well, I
- 15:03don't know if I buy it. Yeah.
- 15:05Yeah. But then then it's easy.
- 15:07It's like, it's the payoff for the Jeopardy that he set up by
- 15:13saying he's going to blow up the world.
- 15:15Yeah. And like you said it would be
- 15:17unsatisfying if that didn't didn't have some Joanna.
- 15:21Loved, you know, Windsor of goes on to the war if the octopus
- 15:24came along and eats him. My little pale that it gets
- 15:28stung by his pet fish. Yeah.
- 15:31They're like right. We're getting there now.
- 15:34Yes, so these are the doctors now going to tell the scientists
- 15:37that the the world is going to explode, which somehow they
- 15:40haven't noticed, so far. Let's be devoted to you if
- 15:46they're gonna blow him off themselves to Pieces.
- 15:48Oh, how I got to break. Oh, I seem to shake and some of
- 15:51them. It's great, isn't it?
- 15:54Yeah. Oh my God, But how can they not
- 16:00know, then once up? Yeah, that's weird, isn't it?
- 16:05You are looking beeping. I know I know you hear about
- 16:10some scientists during the second world war didn't realize,
- 16:12they were created weapons of mass destruction and things like
- 16:14this. You know, we always thought we
- 16:15were just doing some tests but I do know the destruction of the
- 16:20world. You think you don't have a baby
- 16:21clued into? I mean he had a diagram on the
- 16:24wall and it's okay. Yeah, actions with a.
- 16:33Yeah, the no circumstances. Look at that wall.
- 16:37Don't press that button. Oh my God, this is so great.
- 16:44So now so knows their office trapped been and the doctor out
- 16:49of the control part of the country.
- 16:51The laboratory for his hubris is so bad.
- 16:54He's trapped himself in. Yes, exactly.
- 16:56But he doesn't care. He just wants to And of course
- 17:00there's a plunger that he's going to press to make the
- 17:02explosion happened. Because of course, there is no
- 17:05and they go on about the big red button in new.
- 17:07Yeah, I think is agonizing in that offering this.
- 17:12He, of course, he's got a plunger.
- 17:14Yes. And, you know, he's gonna laugh
- 17:17maniacally as he pulls it. Absolutely was Jamie doing up
- 17:22against that wall, he's looking for, he felt the air moves.
- 17:25So he's following there was a draft Which would suggest that
- 17:30there was through this, just a confusion of bodies and it is
- 17:34rumbling and grumpy the imagination.
- 17:41Yes, it looks like that. The Jamie's Mage to engineer a
- 17:46small rock fall so they can get out to the other side which is
- 17:50when the air was coming in. It's our thought the doctors
- 17:54trying to turn the light off so he can't see the plunger.
- 17:57Yes, he is. I mean, this is all a bit comic
- 17:59again now, isn't it? And then, those are options on
- 18:03the emergency lights. Dalton's law for it.
- 18:06Like, he's smiling doctor. You are a comedian.
- 18:11I mean, we've lost a fair bit as lines in this Dear.
- 18:17Oh, the guys, the guys going up. Hang on the gate doesn't go up,
- 18:20just hit it. So I think, I think the gate
- 18:24went up and he went through to turn on the emergency lights.
- 18:29Okay, we can't see any of it though.
- 18:31Okay, leave him. But now the gate is come down
- 18:34again and the doctor is tractors are off away from his blood away
- 18:38from the plunger which would be bad.
- 18:39See on the screen. Now plunger is both enormous.
- 18:43And phallic, I hate the clothes. Look it reaching for it.
- 18:51You can't do this to me and the approaching water is getting
- 18:57louder as well. So I think this him saying, you
- 19:00know, I can't leave him to die. That's probably his most dr.
- 19:03Ish moment today yeah. Yeah, and I think it also is
- 19:08that the doctor this doctor or some of the doctors are.
- 19:12Not because it's it's like he's killed him directly, isn't it?
- 19:17Yeah, yes, he's leaving him but he's leaving him in the
- 19:20knowledge that he will drown, and, and he trapped him in there
- 19:23and he trapped him in there. So it's directly, his
- 19:27responsibilities. That that's going to happen.
- 19:29That is a bit different from like sending a load of Cybermen,
- 19:32floating up into space, isn't it awesome?
- 19:35Yeah. And I was watching the doctoring
- 19:39how thankful they put the footage in here.
- 19:41But yeah like we say it you see cereth is holding onto the bars
- 19:46and is right underneath that water.
- 19:49And you know as Mary Whitehouse might have said, you know, the
- 19:53areas, you know, in the mind of the child for a whole week.
- 19:56Zara yet drowning. Yes, but he's the Baddie.
- 20:00So that make it right? No.
- 20:03But it would if you were a kid. Yeah, she could.
- 20:06It's our bloodthirsty and I do, yeah, I want the wolf to gobble
- 20:10up, Grandma. What's that part?
- 20:14It's, it's just bobbing about in the water showing that the place
- 20:17is flooded, okay? Oh, I have no idea what that is.
- 20:21Like a fish? That fish mask?
- 20:25I don't know where place. It's the seventh map.
- 20:28Yeah. It's showing the destruction of
- 20:30the city. Yeah, there's something about
- 20:36this though, that I find a little disturbing and that is
- 20:40the prolonged death. A lot of deaths in Doctor Who
- 20:43are quick. Yeah.
- 20:45Whereas he is struggling to escape and I'm sure he's
- 20:49probably going and having it up terribly.
- 20:51Yeah. And that water is rising
- 20:54Evermore. It's yeah, that's that's creepy.
- 20:59I think. Yeah, it is.
- 21:02He's a doctor who cliche their companions.
- 21:04Think the doctor is dead. Yes, they've made it to the so
- 21:07Polly and Jamie and made it to the surface.
- 21:11And I can't help but notice Jamie's looking more foxier in
- 21:14every Kelly's. Now, this is a particular
- 21:20problem. With Sarah Jane, you know, she
- 21:21thinks the doctors dead in every story at some point.
- 21:24Hmm. She was about in Davis this
- 21:28time, was it? I think Tegan and lesser ever
- 21:30went through? No, not really.
- 21:32But then they were more in Peril than the doctor walks.
- 21:35Weren't they strip more than Undead when they fought it
- 21:38generated. Yes.
- 21:42Instead, he just had a load of spaghetti bolognese on his head.
- 21:45This is true. That's a nice shot there that
- 21:48the same I think that the come creeping out.
- 21:54Oh, I don't. We've got, he's still not dead
- 21:55yet. Know exactly the waters just
- 21:57getting higher. But what's happening is that
- 21:59the, the mechanisms the machines are giving up, so the
- 22:05Laboratories flooded and now our and fouls and Damon think that
- 22:10he's think the doctor is dead. When actually he's got away, you
- 22:16know, there's a story about the director Julia Smyth we have
- 22:20really thought was bad. Shouldn't.
- 22:21But that's because there isn't really a lot of information
- 22:24about her, but Annika will says, in the Smugglers, she really had
- 22:29respect for us to direct it because they were out at Sea.
- 22:33She was seasick and she was vomiting over the side of the
- 22:37boat wiping her mouth and going, right?
- 22:38Let's get the shot. Yeah.
- 22:41Yeah. She sounds a bit like Patty
- 22:43Russell. I think I think.
- 22:44Yeah. Our director back in the 60s.
- 22:46You had to have forgive me, some nozzles, you know, you know you
- 22:50absolutely did. Yeah.
- 22:51Yeah I remember I think it was Patty.
- 22:53What been party. Russell said about Verity
- 22:56Lambert about how sort of the older gentleman would sort of
- 23:00try and metaphorically take her by the hand and show her how
- 23:03things worked. And you got there very strong
- 23:05impression that they didn't do that choice.
- 23:08Yeah, good great reunited, Verity Lambert.
- 23:13She was a really striking woman. But they said, as well, they're
- 23:19one of the production team said that he loved working with Julia
- 23:22Smyth because even though she knew this was a bit of a turd,
- 23:26this script that she committed to it and she made decisions.
- 23:31And she stuck to them. Yeah, she wasn't a wishy-washy
- 23:34director. She was.
- 23:36This is what we're gonna do. We're gonna make it work.
- 23:39Yeah, well, that's it and they, if people if the director is
- 23:42committed to it, then the cast and the cold store as well, then
- 23:45it sort of does. You know, I'd say I'd say you a
- 23:48mirror talking about it, 50 years later.
- 23:50So, I think she did such a bad job.
- 23:52You know? Oh, hugs everybody to reunited
- 23:57did Ben and Polly end up together.
- 23:59Yes, I think so. Yeah, I think so too.
- 24:02I'm not sure that Russell T Davies is idea of them, having
- 24:08exactly was I don't necessarily see that in their characters as
- 24:14they are in this. But yeah, I'm sure they ended
- 24:16up. Together.
- 24:17Yeah me too. I think I think Paulie and been
- 24:20Ian and Barbara. Oh yeah both of those are the
- 24:23only ones so yeah. I mean you'd have to wouldn't
- 24:27you could who else would you talk to see?
- 24:30I've got a question for you about the the people of
- 24:33Atlantis. Hmm.
- 24:35All we've met quite a few of them and it's gone under the
- 24:37water. Now, we don't see what occurs
- 24:39with any of them. No.
- 24:42But we saw the phallus and Damon and or and they were saying that
- 24:48there was enough of the the lower levels of the city were
- 24:51flooded but there was enough left them to live in.
- 24:55Oh I miss that. So they'd rebuild, but I like I
- 24:59like this bit with Jamie at the end there where he's really sort
- 25:01of he's starting to find his feet in the in the group and he
- 25:06been City smells of fish and Jamie says we're not so fresh
- 25:09yourself and Is lovely. Look at this telescope of them
- 25:12all laughing around. Yeah, just for that.
- 25:15I'll show you that because they saying, you can't control the
- 25:17Tardis. That's the sort of thing that
- 25:19you say to Heart. Know what are you going to rock,
- 25:21rump and then the Ducks is just to show, you will go to Mars and
- 25:25then take them to the Moon instead of that all there.
- 25:28They all are grouping the control and such a fun line up.
- 25:34Is there. I mean I think I think we've
- 25:36kicked away from the educational, we've gone straight
- 25:38for these sort of entertainment jugular.
- 25:40Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 25:42Oh we missed also one of the bits in the power station which
- 25:44is one of my favorite bits with him and been as well is when,
- 25:47when Ben says, do you know what you're doing?
- 25:51And he says, what a question. Of course I don't but there's no
- 25:54harm in trying. This guy isn't in fact bends at
- 25:59the light, your right brain, is that the Liars story?
- 26:03Yeah, it's a really fun time. So that's it.
- 26:07We're off to the moon base now looks like it.
- 26:10Yeah, quilted space suits. Absolutely Fishbowl helmets.
- 26:14Something nasty in the for food, cupboard, do you know what don't
- 26:18have that coffee? All right, I don't like coffee.
- 26:21I'm fine. Do you know, I'll get that for
- 26:24life without coffee, do you know?
- 26:26Well as it we've, we've reached the end of spectacular.
- 26:31Epic, I regret nothing. How about you?
- 26:35Not at all? But obviously, we have to go
- 26:39through this rigmarole. Now, of choosing free apiece,
- 26:42you and me, let's go back and forth.
- 26:45You first, then make reasons why people should give this another
- 26:50go. Okay.
- 26:52So the first reason is the relationship between the regular
- 26:59characters, so the the obvious affection that they have for
- 27:05each other and particularly how by the end of the episode, Jamie
- 27:11is sort of becoming fully one of the team because he's he's
- 27:16answering bends at the beginning bins, kind of teasing him and by
- 27:20the end of it's Jamie's answering back.
- 27:24Okay, then I am going to be really facetious.
- 27:28I might say that a lot of sites, you know, I, I'm going to off
- 27:32course, say Joseph first, as professors are off, who are
- 27:37believe may be the ultimate Doctor.
- 27:40Who villain a man of such spectacular.
- 27:43Understatement. No, he is hilariously.
- 27:49I mean, I I think it's a really Deliberately terrible
- 27:55performance though. Absolutely.
- 27:57Yeah, because we know he can, we know he can act.
- 28:00Yeah. Normally in inverted commas.
- 28:03So he knows knows he's in a B-movie and he's just going for
- 28:07it. And I love it and it's and turn
- 28:10like Graham crowden and some of the others Richard briers.
- 28:15Yeah. The story is all the Richer for
- 28:18his slices of ham. Absolutely.
- 28:24Yo, you said, okay, so I'm going to say the design because I
- 28:30think it's like, again, going back to one of my other
- 28:34favorites, the red planet. It's exactly somebody threw
- 28:38everything at it. They do the costumes, the
- 28:40design, the set designs, the, the way the laboratory looks
- 28:45like a laboratory, the sense of space you get in the temple that
- 28:48they really. It is a really strange.
- 28:52Change at story, but a lot of effort was made to think about
- 28:58what Atlantis look like and they ran with it.
- 29:05I am going to admire how a depth that is, this is that Dudley
- 29:13Simpson was at blowing a kazoo because irony is is best score
- 29:19by a long stretch of the imagination.
- 29:20But I do think a lot of his Scores in the 70s of
- 29:27interchangeable and this score is not.
- 29:30It is utterly unique and over-the-top and wacko like the
- 29:35rest of the story and I really admire it when when the musician
- 29:39a bit like Caribe lightening death of the day, it seems like
- 29:42they do something a bit weird and a bit different.
- 29:44I really admire that so because though blowing thumbs up
- 29:50absolutely well and also it's like somebody says Did you
- 29:52you've got to write Temple music for Atlantis brief?
- 29:58Yeah. Well, what's your third that?
- 30:02Oh um, Hmm. Yeah, I think the, the sort of
- 30:19the, the smaller sort of subsidiary characters as well
- 30:23are very well drawn for something, which is so utterly
- 30:26crackers. The fact that you've got not not
- 30:30fouls, particularly because that's still.
- 30:32I think an old performance, my opinion obviously, but our and
- 30:39the I like John Moe and recognizable sort of people and
- 30:47so it gives it does sort of give the story a bit more body in a
- 30:51bit more support. That's a goodie.
- 30:54And I'm just going to single out Patrick troughton because I
- 30:58think this is where he found his feet and we have Joseph first to
- 31:03thank for that as we've said, because he's finally met his
- 31:07match and an underplayed doctor played by Patrick troughton,
- 31:15it's just magic and he's still funny like you listed on the
- 31:19lines where he's hilarious, but he's been given some pretty
- 31:27unsayable things in where he's sucking up to Zaroff.
- 31:32And when he's talking about, you know, you people didn't know you
- 31:34were blowing up the world nor and he sells the hell out of it.
- 31:38Oh yeah, do it. To his Commendation that he
- 31:45thought the script was a polling and he committed to it. 100%.
- 31:49Anyway. So yeah Bravo I say definitely
- 31:54and Lucy. Yes.
- 31:57Where are we going next? Don't know.
- 32:01We haven't determined that have way.
- 32:04Do you have any particular desires?
- 32:10Our journey. I refuse to let our journey end.
- 32:14Michael, could you use this? This, this was immediately came
- 32:19to mind. Did you ever have any other or
- 32:23even new series ones where you're like, oh, I'd love to Nat
- 32:27Iran about that one. I can't think about sorry.
- 32:33My mind's just gone. Completely like, all right, I
- 32:36can feel the wheels turning. That's more than I can weights.
- 32:42Like, yes it is late week Terminus off mic.
- 32:48Yeah. That'll probably be a good idea.
- 32:50Otherwise we might just stay as they are.
- 32:52Yes. Hopefully, if I think of a
- 32:54story. All right.
- 32:56Well it just leader is say, thank you very, very much for
- 33:01MBA. Hang on this inside engine.
- 33:06It was wonderful fun as it always is with you.
- 33:09So, thank you very much for your time.
- 33:13Bosch ask cut it there.
