- 0:01Speaker 1: Let's charge about.
- 0:02Speaker 2: We are charging the Mound. It's presented by Fox one.
- 0:05Speaker 3: That's where you can watch every single World Baseball Classic game.
- 0:08Speaker 3: We did a postgame show after watching Team USA against
- 0:11Speaker 3: Mexico last night, and we actually didn't I don't know
- 0:15Speaker 3: if we covered this or maybe we did for five seconds,
- 0:17Speaker 3: but to me, the story really escalates when you do
- 0:19Speaker 3: get an answer from Randy a Rosina after Kyle Riley
- 0:23Speaker 3: says not, I don't want to shake your hand. So Kratz,
- 0:27Speaker 3: let me get your perspective asap. Please, What did you
- 0:29Speaker 3: think when you saw it? And what did you think
- 0:32Speaker 3: of Randy's reply afterward? I'll drop that in there pretty
- 0:35Speaker 3: early on here, but first let me get your reply
- 0:38Speaker 3: just from the on field perspective before we find out
- 0:41Speaker 3: Randy is pissed off. Unless he's just completely putting on
- 0:44Speaker 3: his best WWE heel performance, it did sound like he
- 0:48Speaker 3: actually felt as if his teammate with the Mariners should
- 0:52Speaker 3: give him a little love before his ab and Cal said,
- 0:56Speaker 3: hell no, there's also some out there that are trying
- 0:58Speaker 3: to throw like the whole oh don't want to get
- 1:01Speaker 3: any like pine tar on their hand kind of situation,
- 1:03Speaker 3: and you're a former catcher, and that felt like eyewash.
- 1:06Speaker 2: So just help us out with everything here.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I'll tell you exactly where I'm at with this. I
- 1:11Speaker 1: loved it from both sides. Randy doesn't need to be
- 1:14Speaker 1: happy about it. Maybe he felt like he was disrespected,
- 1:17Speaker 1: shown up, whatever it is. Cal doesn't need to shake
- 1:20Speaker 1: his hand like there's there's so many examples. I was
- 1:23Speaker 1: in that room. I was in the Team USA room,
- 1:26Speaker 1: not for WBC. But when you put that jersey on,
- 1:29Speaker 1: you have conversations for the week two weeks leading up
- 1:33Speaker 1: to the games, and the conversation is not about oh man,
- 1:39Speaker 1: it's gonna be so great to swap jerseys and and
- 1:43Speaker 1: oh man, you know we're gonna go play Mexico and guys,
- 1:46Speaker 1: it doesn't matter, it's just gonna be fun. No, they
- 1:49Speaker 1: want to win. They want to sweep through the pool play.
- 1:53Speaker 1: They want to win every game after that and raise
- 1:56Speaker 1: the trophy at the end. Like that's the conversation. And
- 1:59Speaker 1: so you do have to have a certain mindset as
- 2:03Speaker 1: a catcher. And he didn't do anything harmful to Randy.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Maybe Randy's pissed off about it based on his comments,
- 2:10Speaker 1: which we'll get to. But to me. It reminds me
- 2:14Speaker 1: a lot of and maybe Kp'll hit it a little
- 2:16Speaker 1: bit because we talked about a pre show Kobe Bryant
- 2:20Speaker 1: ran through Paul I think it was Paul Gasol in
- 2:24Speaker 1: a one of the Team USA basketball games. Now he
- 2:28Speaker 1: ran like he ran over on a pick and people
- 2:31Speaker 1: were like, whoa, you do that to one of your teammates.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Cal just did that to one of his teammates. He
- 2:37Speaker 1: didn't physically harm him, but it was definitely a show
- 2:41Speaker 1: of no, like it's fine that we're teammates during the
- 2:45Speaker 1: regular season. That's not what this is. And this shows me.
- 2:48Speaker 1: This event and I wish AJ was on today, shows
- 2:51Speaker 1: me it's more than next an exhibition. The guys take
- 2:55Speaker 1: it more importantly than an exhibition because they want to win.
- 2:59Speaker 1: They want to win ultimately at the end. But they
- 3:02Speaker 1: also understand and respect the history of playing for Team USA,
- 3:07Speaker 1: and they also know Mexico's freaking beating him the last
- 3:10Speaker 1: three times. So I definitely see this as something that
- 3:15Speaker 1: was premeditated, not malicious, but also understanding that the rest
- 3:20Speaker 1: of the team understands this is fun, this is time
- 3:23Speaker 1: to lock in. I think Will Smith did it maybe
- 3:26Speaker 1: last year last WBC. If I'm not mistaken with Randy, Yeah,
- 3:31Speaker 1: they don't need to. It doesn't mean that Calla hates Randy,
- 3:33Speaker 1: doesn't mean that they're going to have a terrible club
- 3:35Speaker 1: auise in Seattle. No, not at all. That's not what
- 3:38Speaker 1: it means.
- 3:40Speaker 3: I'm good with everything you've said, except when you do
- 3:43Speaker 3: get a player emotionally voicing his displeasure after the game,
- 3:48Speaker 3: you do feel like there's more to it. So let's
- 3:50Speaker 3: run that and then we'll get KP's thoughts. Randy A
- 3:53Speaker 3: Rosearin A postgame translated and written by Master Flip has
- 3:56Speaker 3: been great covering the WBC.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Here's Randy.
- 4:00Speaker 3: How do you think I should respond to cal Riley?
- 4:01Speaker 3: How should I put it to him? I want to
- 4:03Speaker 3: say it in four languages, first in Spanish. The only
- 4:05Speaker 3: thing he should be thankful for is having such great parents.
- 4:08Speaker 3: He's very well educated.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Thank God.
- 4:09Speaker 3: I was lucky enough to see them a few days
- 4:11Speaker 3: ago at the hotel. They came over to greet me,
- 4:12Speaker 3: gave me a big huggin virginualy proud to see me again.
- 4:15Speaker 2: After that, I went to give it to him straight
- 4:17Speaker 2: Cuban style.
- 4:18Speaker 3: What he has to do is f off Mexican style,
- 4:22Speaker 3: go to hell English, that fake ass. Good to see you.
- 4:26Speaker 3: He hit me with he can shove it straight up
- 4:28Speaker 3: his ass. I'm out kp to me now, it's on.
- 4:34Speaker 3: I mean, if you get called out like that, unless
- 4:36Speaker 3: you think he's completely kidding, wouldn't you be like, hey, dude,
- 4:40Speaker 3: we got a problem.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Randy's a hard guy to read because he's very charismatic
- 4:46Speaker 4: on the field and he likes to have fun.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Is this serious? I don't know.
- 4:50Speaker 4: I think we need to kind of wait and let
- 4:51Speaker 4: Cal kind of respond to what's going on. And obviously
- 4:54Speaker 4: when he gets to the field today, there's going to
- 4:57Speaker 4: be reporters there are going to ask him this question.
- 4:59Speaker 4: We're going to figure out at what Cal's side of
- 5:01Speaker 4: the story was. But I do want to touch base
- 5:03Speaker 4: on what Kratzy was talking about because obviously huge Kobe
- 5:06Speaker 4: Bryant fan. Let me paint the picture a little bit.
- 5:09Speaker 4: This is a two thousand and eight gold medal game.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Before that, the Lakers, Pau Gasol, and Kobe Bryant just
- 5:15Speaker 4: want an NBA title together, much like this scenario where
- 5:19Speaker 4: this happened three years ago when Randy rose Aina tried
- 5:22Speaker 4: to shake Willis Smith's hand. The team probably talked about
- 5:26Speaker 4: this very scenario with Caw and said, hey, look at
- 5:28Speaker 4: we are no longer teammates. Go back to that two
- 5:31Speaker 4: thousand and eight Olympic game. Kobe Bryant and his teammates
- 5:34Speaker 4: have talked about obviously watching film, they knew the first
- 5:37Speaker 4: play of the game was going to be this. You know,
- 5:39Speaker 4: this high pick and roll pow was going to set
- 5:41Speaker 4: the screen. Kobe talks about it. He said, I'm going
- 5:44Speaker 4: to run through his fucking chest because I'm going to
- 5:45Speaker 4: set a tone that we are no longer teammates. We
- 5:48Speaker 4: are no longer brothers. I'm wearing the USA on my chest.
- 5:51Speaker 4: My brothers are the guys that are wearing this uniform.
- 5:54Speaker 4: You know, after this tournament is over, we can be
- 5:56Speaker 4: brothers and family again. But I think it is so
- 5:59Speaker 4: great for the sport that, like Kratzy said too, this
- 6:02Speaker 4: is no longer exhibition. These players want to go and
- 6:05Speaker 4: represent their countries and they want to win. I think
- 6:08Speaker 4: we have seen it from so many other countries throughout
- 6:11Speaker 4: this tournament. You know, the Dominicans, the Venezuelans, the Puerto Ricans,
- 6:15Speaker 4: team Japan. They've typically put their best foot forward. And
- 6:19Speaker 4: it means so much to them. I think everything that's
- 6:21Speaker 4: happened to the USA over the last couple of WBCs
- 6:25Speaker 4: and being able to kind of unite the super team
- 6:28Speaker 4: led by Aaron Judge going out and recruiting the best
- 6:30Speaker 4: players in the game, and the Pulse Games and the
- 6:32Speaker 4: Trek Scoobles, this means a lot to them, and for
- 6:35Speaker 4: them to go out and have that moment just shows
- 6:38Speaker 4: how competitive these guys are.
- 6:40Speaker 5: Is this something that's gonna linger hopefully not.
- 6:42Speaker 4: I just think so much in today's game is yes,
- 6:46Speaker 4: we are a fraternity of brothers. No matter what team
- 6:49Speaker 4: you play on in Major League Baseball, we understand how
- 6:51Speaker 4: fortunate we are, how lucky we are. Do we have
- 6:54Speaker 4: friends on other teams, and a lot of us come
- 6:56Speaker 4: from different organizations and play different organizations.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Out the entirety of the season.
- 7:01Speaker 4: It's very easy to go out there and want to
- 7:03Speaker 4: catch up with your friends because the baseball season is
- 7:05Speaker 4: so long. You see that a little bit less in
- 7:08Speaker 4: the postseason in the major leagues, because that's when the
- 7:10Speaker 4: intensity really turns up and in pool play and then
- 7:14Speaker 4: ultimately an elimination.
- 7:16Speaker 5: I don't think you're going to see a lot of
- 7:17Speaker 5: fraternizing moving forward.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Cool, great points.
- 7:21Speaker 3: The only thing I'll correct you on is apparently the
- 7:23Speaker 3: Lakers lost to the Celtics before that too, that game
- 7:28Speaker 3: and then they won the next two years, so it
- 7:31Speaker 3: seems like they got along just fine afterward. Some people
- 7:34Speaker 3: are already in code red mode crats like, oh, do
- 7:37Speaker 3: they have to trade Randy? How's it going to be?
- 7:39Speaker 3: Like how will they ever.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Get along coming up for this season? So what do
- 7:44Speaker 2: you think?
- 7:45Speaker 1: I mean? Randy had a four war from last season.
- 7:49Speaker 1: He was a major part of that team. Moving forward,
- 7:52Speaker 1: he's going to be in his last year before free agency. No,
- 7:56Speaker 1: this isn't like you can play, you can, you can talk, smack,
- 8:01Speaker 1: you can you know, maybe CALCN feels like, hey, he
- 8:05Speaker 1: went too far, But you can do all those things
- 8:08Speaker 1: and then you can come back together and you can
- 8:11Speaker 1: have a amicable relationship for the season. Like just like
- 8:17Speaker 1: he's putting, both of those teams are putting their heart
- 8:21Speaker 1: and effort into their team right now. Randy with Mexico
- 8:26Speaker 1: Cal with us, they're going to do the same thing
- 8:30Speaker 1: when they go back to the Mariners. To me, it's
- 8:33Speaker 1: immature and sophomoric if they both hold out. Did you
- 8:37Speaker 1: hear what he said about me. Oh, that's unbelievable. And
- 8:40Speaker 1: the real man, the real people who step up, the
- 8:42Speaker 1: great teammates. If they're offended, they go to each other
- 8:46Speaker 1: and they have that conversation. Once the WBC is over.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Benji Heal, the manager, already said it. He's like, we
- 8:54Speaker 1: want to see us again, and I think it's gonna
- 8:56Speaker 1: be a different outcome. Mexico's not afraid of the big
- 8:59Speaker 1: bat the United States in the United States isn't trying
- 9:02Speaker 1: to be friends with Mexico. So I love it. I
- 9:07Speaker 1: love it because it's a good look into actually what
- 9:10Speaker 1: goes on, and those conversations are definitely being had. Col's
- 9:14Speaker 1: not out on an island and his other teammates are going, oh,
- 9:17Speaker 1: I can't believe he did that. They're like, yeah, yeah, cal.
- 9:23Speaker 3: I got one comment that came to me. Cole said,
- 9:27Speaker 3: you can be competitive without being a dick. Sam said,
- 9:30Speaker 3: do you speak Spanish? Scott, seems crazy to me. You're
- 9:32Speaker 3: making all these assumptions when you have to get his
- 9:34Speaker 3: response translated to you.
- 9:35Speaker 2: He's smiling in the interview.
- 9:36Speaker 3: It's clearly a bit I've said multiple times, unless he's kidding,
- 9:40Speaker 3: And yes, I do not speak fluent Spanish.
- 9:42Speaker 2: I speak Spanglish.
- 9:44Speaker 3: There is the comment, by the way, the only thing
- 9:47Speaker 3: I will say in today's world, if you are kidding,
- 9:50Speaker 3: usually you want to.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Just give us at least a.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Little bit like a And I say that in jest
- 9:56Speaker 3: or I'm messing around. But do you think he's in
- 10:01Speaker 3: his game mode right now? Like, Noah, this is the enemy,
- 10:04Speaker 3: enemy territory right now. And he said he's the enemy.
- 10:07Speaker 2: So now I'm gonna say he's the enemy. Is he
- 10:09Speaker 2: trying to get traded?
- 10:10Speaker 1: Really?
- 10:10Speaker 2: Now? I don't think so.
- 10:12Speaker 1: He's not getting traded.
- 10:13Speaker 3: No, Well, maybe he's like, you know what I want
- 10:15Speaker 3: to get traded to? Uh, I don't know, a team
- 10:18Speaker 3: with an easier ballpark for him to hit in. I'm joking.
- 10:22Speaker 3: It's clearly serious from Julie, and he gave four responses.
- 10:25Speaker 3: There was no room for misinterpretation, all right. And now, also,
- 10:32Speaker 3: if you'd like tickets for the World Baseball Classic, Sea
- 10:34Speaker 3: Geek is this spot. You can use territory ten for
- 10:37Speaker 3: ten percent off tickets. They've got the one to ten
- 10:40Speaker 3: scale so you can make sure that you're getting hooked
- 10:42Speaker 3: up with the right deal in the right section. I'm
- 10:45Speaker 3: actually also going to hit an Orlando Matchic game coming
- 10:47Speaker 3: up soon, so we'll head over to Sea Geeke for
- 10:50Speaker 3: a little bit of that as well. Kratz and I
- 10:52Speaker 3: know it's not getting as much love for a week here,
- 10:55Speaker 3: but there are spring training games that you can get
- 10:57Speaker 3: a hold of, and after the World Baball Classic, if
- 11:00Speaker 3: you're feeling a little bit low, there are still spring
- 11:03Speaker 3: training games that you can get a hold of for
- 11:04Speaker 3: about a week. They'll be about a week and then
- 11:07Speaker 3: that dips into the exhibition games at the ballpark, which
- 11:10Speaker 3: is a good opportunity to find some good seats, and
- 11:13Speaker 3: then of course opening Day if you're looking for your
- 11:15Speaker 3: sold out opening day seats, that's the spot too.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Seek Seek you go help you because going to spring
- 11:21Speaker 1: training is like an event, like you're going down to
- 11:23Speaker 1: spring training and you rarely go to just one game.
- 11:26Speaker 1: So you're like, Okay, I want to go Tuesday here,
- 11:30Speaker 1: I want to go beach Wednesday if you're in Florida,
- 11:32Speaker 1: and then you can figure out where you're going to
- 11:34Speaker 1: games Thursday Friday, and you figure it out based on
- 11:38Speaker 1: based on how close you are. You go to Need
- 11:40Speaker 1: and you go clear Water, you go Tampa, so it's
- 11:42Speaker 1: super easy and seek Geek has it. You just change
- 11:45Speaker 1: the queue on which day Bang rang, and.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Of course to recap the code for you, it is
- 11:53Speaker 3: Territory ten ten percent off your next set of tickets
- 11:55Speaker 3: at tea Geek ten percent off any tickets with that
- 11:58Speaker 3: promo code. Make sure you click the link in the
- 12:00Speaker 3: description to download the app and have the code automatically
- 12:02Speaker 3: added to your account so you can use it later.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Surgery for Hunter Green. He's going to have bone chips
- 12:15Speaker 3: removed from his elbow on Wednesday. He is not expected
- 12:19Speaker 3: to make his season debut until July. The Reds have
- 12:24Speaker 3: been able to gather a very strong collection of arm talent,
- 12:31Speaker 3: led by Hunter Green and Krats.
- 12:33Speaker 2: He's going to miss half the season.
- 12:35Speaker 3: How much does this hurt a team that feels like
- 12:39Speaker 3: it needs to have the little things go right to
- 12:44Speaker 3: win at the margins and make the playoffs, Like, let's
- 12:46Speaker 3: be real, this is not a projected ninety five win team.
- 12:50Speaker 3: This is a team that you feel like is borderline
- 12:53Speaker 3: for postseason, just like they were last year. They have
- 12:58Speaker 3: some depth, but this is a huge blow for them
- 13:01Speaker 3: to lose Hunter Green for a huge chunk of time
- 13:04Speaker 3: to start the year.
- 13:06Speaker 1: They're not losing some of their depth, they're losing their
- 13:09Speaker 1: number one guy. And I believe truly that some of
- 13:13Speaker 1: the other guys will step up. I've always looked at
- 13:16Speaker 1: Nickelodoldo and said, wow, like this guy is going to
- 13:20Speaker 1: do things. I think Andrew Rabbitt has had some spurts
- 13:23Speaker 1: of like ridiculousness, but you look the rest of it there,
- 13:28Speaker 1: Brady Singer is going to make all thirty two of
- 13:30Speaker 1: his starts. Reet Louder and Chase Burns. If those are
- 13:33Speaker 1: the two guys that they go with, because they were
- 13:35Speaker 1: kind of in competition for that fifth spot before, and
- 13:37Speaker 1: if they both make the team, there's just not a
- 13:40Speaker 1: lot of experience. Does it mean that they won't do well. No,
- 13:43Speaker 1: it just means that a team that I felt like
- 13:48Speaker 1: last year was going to take the next step and
- 13:50Speaker 1: win the division. I thought the division was up for
- 13:52Speaker 1: grabs and they still made the playoffs. But you know,
- 13:57Speaker 1: you just take you take Hunter Green out of that
- 13:59Speaker 1: mix for longer than he missed last year. I think
- 14:02Speaker 1: he missed eight starts last year. You're looking at almost
- 14:06Speaker 1: half of his starts this year. So if you're looking
- 14:09Speaker 1: at Brady Singer makes thirty two, so possibly sixteen starts.
- 14:13Speaker 1: That's tough. That is tough, and it puts a lot
- 14:16Speaker 1: of pressure on Red Louder and Chase Burns to step
- 14:20Speaker 1: up and just give you quality innings right out the
- 14:24Speaker 1: jump unless they have somebody else, unless they have another
- 14:27Speaker 1: depth piece that they feel I could step up, but
- 14:30Speaker 1: then that person would have also been in the running
- 14:33Speaker 1: with the other two guys. Basically, that's why you wanted
- 14:36Speaker 1: a Zach Lyttel to go back to the Reds. I mean,
- 14:39Speaker 1: teams will constantly be picked up, you know, we'll tossantly
- 14:42Speaker 1: talk about teams that, oh, well, this could have been
- 14:44Speaker 1: a case where you don't have two rookies essentially making
- 14:49Speaker 1: their first full season debuts, or you know, Lucas Giolito
- 14:54Speaker 1: who's still out there on the market. Now you don't.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Now you can kind of push just one of those
- 14:57Speaker 1: guys and if they both do well, great, that's a
- 15:00Speaker 1: great problem to have. But with Hunter Green out, this
- 15:03Speaker 1: is massive for the Reds.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Yeah, and he was feeling this KP going into the
- 15:08Speaker 2: end of last season. So when he.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Spoke about it a week ago, he said, final five
- 15:13Speaker 3: or six starts, he had just pushed through it for
- 15:16Speaker 3: the playoff push and they needed it, and then he
- 15:18Speaker 3: got an injection and so he was just buying time
- 15:22Speaker 3: and it did not react well here in spring training.
- 15:25Speaker 3: So it's not TJ, which he's had already, it's not
- 15:29Speaker 3: UCL damage, but still bone Chip's not gonna pitch her
- 15:33Speaker 3: like this out.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Really sucks for this team.
- 15:36Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just always unfortunate timing because you know what
- 15:40Speaker 4: the Reds were able to do down the stretch last
- 15:41Speaker 4: year and get in the playoffs. He obviously wanted to
- 15:44Speaker 4: be a part of that, get a chance to experience
- 15:47Speaker 4: the playoffs and start in those games, especially back home
- 15:51Speaker 4: in Dodger Stadium where he grew up. But it's just
- 15:54Speaker 4: unfortunate timing, you know. If this is something that and
- 15:58Speaker 4: it's hard because these guys take so much time off
- 16:00Speaker 4: from pitching after that last game, and their arm probably
- 16:03Speaker 4: feels pretty good, and they start to build up a
- 16:05Speaker 4: little bit and it feels pretty good, and then they
- 16:08Speaker 4: throw their first bullpin and it feels okay, and then
- 16:11Speaker 4: a couple of days later like oh man, and a
- 16:13Speaker 4: lot of people at home, a lot of fans like
- 16:15Speaker 4: why didn't he get it done in the off season,
- 16:17Speaker 4: and in a perfect world he probably would have, but
- 16:20Speaker 4: it didn't really show up until you know, recently, and
- 16:23Speaker 4: it's really unfortunate for them. But on Cratsey's point, I
- 16:26Speaker 4: faced Nick Lodolo in twenty three when I was with
- 16:31Speaker 4: Chicago White Sox, or sorry, twenty four when I was
- 16:33Speaker 4: with the Chicago White Sox. That is the closest thing
- 16:36Speaker 4: I've seen to Chris Sayle in terms of uniqueness and
- 16:40Speaker 4: arm angle and size. I think the sky's the limit
- 16:43Speaker 4: for him. I think it's only a matter of time.
- 16:45Speaker 4: We're talking about this guy as being one of the
- 16:47Speaker 4: better upper tier left handed pitchers in our game.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Yeah, that's high praise, but it makes sense. I mean
- 16:53Speaker 3: this season or this past season, we really saw it
- 16:57Speaker 3: right because he had troubles staying on the field. That
- 17:01Speaker 3: was the knock he was on his way. Yeah, one
- 17:03Speaker 3: hundred and fifty six two thirds innings. It's pretty close
- 17:06Speaker 3: to what you're gonna get these days from a starter.
- 17:09Speaker 5: Yeah, when healthy, When healthy, it is very unique.
- 17:12Speaker 4: You talk about the uniqueness factor of facing guys and
- 17:15Speaker 4: how the technologies changed and traject I guarantee you I've
- 17:19Speaker 4: been on the traject There's no preparing for a guy
- 17:22Speaker 4: like him, it's something that it's hard to recreate. Yes,
- 17:26Speaker 4: when you see him a little bit more much like
- 17:27Speaker 4: the Chrisales of the world, there's a little bit more comfort.
- 17:30Speaker 4: But when you're talking about him showing up to a
- 17:33Speaker 4: team that's never seen him before, it is a nightmare
- 17:36Speaker 4: of it. At bat, I think he hit me in
- 17:38Speaker 4: the back foot on a slider and it much like Chrisale,
- 17:40Speaker 4: it feels like it's almost starting in the other's batter's
- 17:43Speaker 4: box and the next thing you know, it's off your
- 17:45Speaker 4: back foot. Like it is that unique. It can be
- 17:47Speaker 4: that special. He just needs to stay healthy. And I
- 17:50Speaker 4: think I don't know him personally. I don't know anything
- 17:53Speaker 4: about him, but when he really starts to believe he
- 17:56Speaker 4: can become a version like Chrisale, I really do have.
- 18:00Speaker 4: I do think very highly of him, and I think
- 18:02Speaker 4: he's a guy. At some point this year we're talking
- 18:05Speaker 4: about being an elite left handed starting pitcher.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Yeah, and the three three ERA three three three ra
- 18:11Speaker 3: last year pitching for the Reds. Some fans in the
- 18:15Speaker 3: chat also mentioning how they're excited to see the next
- 18:17Speaker 3: step for Rhet Louder. Okay, yeah, you certainly would love
- 18:21Speaker 3: to see that too. Saw thirty innings from him last year.
- 18:24Speaker 3: A lot more on this crats no no.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I love his own Yeah. I just hate to see
- 18:32Speaker 1: two rookies essentially. I know they're not tech. I don't
- 18:36Speaker 1: know what their rookie status is, but two young guys
- 18:39Speaker 1: needing to solidify two of the spots. The best lane
- 18:43Speaker 1: is that both of those guys can fill one spot.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Not that somebody's gonna get hurt, not that somebody's gonna
- 18:49Speaker 1: do bad, just that it gives them a different leeway
- 18:53Speaker 1: in to having success for the entire season for the
- 18:57Speaker 1: whole team.
- 18:58Speaker 3: You're talking about Rhet Louder and Chase burn Now filling
- 19:01Speaker 3: rotation spots most likely for the Reds to start the year.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yep, that's fair. That is fair.
- 19:06Speaker 3: The division should be tough. I mean, the Pirates should
- 19:08Speaker 3: be better. The Cubs I think will be better, and
- 19:10Speaker 3: they were pretty good last year. The Brewers should still
- 19:13Speaker 3: be the Brewers. They have not been affected too much
- 19:16Speaker 3: by turnover over time. They're certainly not going to be
- 19:18Speaker 3: a bad team. The Cardinals are one team where you're
- 19:20Speaker 3: like they're going to take a step back. How much
- 19:23Speaker 3: of a step back, though, I'm not sure, right, how
- 19:25Speaker 3: different will they be from last year's team.
- 19:26Speaker 2: I'm not sure.
- 19:27Speaker 3: So you're gonna have to find wins somewhere in that division,
- 19:29Speaker 3: and this certainly hurts the Reds.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Here.
- 19:37Speaker 2: It is the inside scoop with FT senior insider Ken Rosenthal. Ken,
- 19:41Speaker 2: great to have you on and how was the game?
- 19:43Speaker 1: So?
- 19:43Speaker 3: To me, it was like the tune ups and then
- 19:46Speaker 3: the real stuff, the good stuff, starting with US and
- 19:48Speaker 3: Mexico and ended up only being a two run win
- 19:51Speaker 3: for Team USA.
- 19:51Speaker 2: What were your takeaways, Scott, You're absolutely right.
- 19:55Speaker 6: It was as if last night was the first real game.
- 19:58Speaker 7: They had two exit against the Rockies and the Giants,
- 20:02Speaker 7: then they had the first two WBC games against Brazil
- 20:04Speaker 7: and Great Britain. They outscored their opponents by fifty three
- 20:07Speaker 7: to eleven in those games. So those were the tune ups.
- 20:10Speaker 7: And Mark de Rosa told his players before last night's game,
- 20:14Speaker 7: listen in Phoenix in twenty three, the crowd was against
- 20:18Speaker 7: US when we played Mexico. Get ready, it's game on
- 20:21Speaker 7: and it was now. It was five to nothing for
- 20:24Speaker 7: quite a long time in this game, but Mexico rallied.
- 20:28Speaker 7: It got quite intense toward the end, and my biggest
- 20:31Speaker 7: takeaways were just the absolute star quality.
- 20:35Speaker 6: On Team USA.
- 20:36Speaker 7: It's on a nightly basis kind of astonishing to see
- 20:40Speaker 7: this team in action.
- 20:41Speaker 6: Aaron Judge with a two roun homer in the.
- 20:43Speaker 7: Throw, Roman Anthony with the big homer, Bobby Wick Junior
- 20:47Speaker 7: all over the field offensively, defensively, on the basis, it
- 20:51Speaker 7: can be a different guy every night, and that is
- 20:54Speaker 7: what is so special about this team. Oh and I
- 20:57Speaker 7: forgot the starting pitcher, Paul Skeins.
- 20:59Speaker 6: He was pretty good too.
- 21:00Speaker 7: So just a great effort all around from Team USA
- 21:04Speaker 7: last night. And we might see a line change again tonight.
- 21:07Speaker 7: We might see Gunner Henderson and Pete Crow Armstrong and
- 21:10Speaker 7: some of the other players who were not in the
- 21:11Speaker 7: lineup last night.
- 21:13Speaker 6: Because that's how deep they are and that's how good
- 21:15Speaker 6: they are.
- 21:16Speaker 7: It's just kind of a cool thing to see these
- 21:18Speaker 7: guys all together as one. And it's also cool from
- 21:23Speaker 7: other team's perspectives too, to see the Dominican Republic and
- 21:26Speaker 7: the star quality that they have. So I love this
- 21:29Speaker 7: tournament and so far it's been a lot of fun
- 21:31Speaker 7: and it's only going to get better from here.
- 21:33Speaker 1: We can see what they're doing on the field, what
- 21:35Speaker 1: are you hearing in the locker room the conversations, Like
- 21:39Speaker 1: do the guys sound different? You interview these guys throughout
- 21:42Speaker 1: the years leading up to this, but do you hear
- 21:45Speaker 1: a different type of conversation on Team USA. Yes?
- 21:50Speaker 7: And it's interesting, Eric, when you talk to the players.
- 21:53Speaker 7: They are all not only excited to wear USA on
- 21:57Speaker 7: their chest. That is a given, and of course we're
- 22:00Speaker 7: all proud of our country. But what really gets these
- 22:04Speaker 7: guys going is the ability to have high level baseball
- 22:08Speaker 7: conversations with each other. It is what Trek Schoobil cited
- 22:12Speaker 7: in saying how difficult it was to leave this team
- 22:15Speaker 7: go back to Lakeland. He may come back for the
- 22:17Speaker 7: semifinals and finals in Miami, but his point was these
- 22:20Speaker 7: conversations were having are amazing. Now. Last night, I don't
- 22:24Speaker 7: know exactly what happened after the game, but the players
- 22:29Speaker 7: did not come out for the longest time.
- 22:31Speaker 6: In fact, they pushed back their buses, Eric, so they
- 22:34Speaker 6: were in there. It seems to me.
- 22:36Speaker 7: I don't know this for a fact yet, but what
- 22:38Speaker 7: else could they have been doing but talking baseball?
- 22:41Speaker 1: Now?
- 22:41Speaker 7: Years ago, when you guys played, when you started your careers. Anyway,
- 22:45Speaker 7: players routinely did that. They'd hang in the clubhouse after
- 22:48Speaker 7: a game. There was no rush to go home, but
- 22:51Speaker 7: over time that has changed. Now players kind of leave,
- 22:55Speaker 7: go back to the rooms, play video games. They're sort
- 22:57Speaker 7: of afraid to go out because social media and all
- 23:00Speaker 7: the things that they might encounter. So last night, I
- 23:03Speaker 7: don't know again the details yet. I have to find
- 23:05Speaker 7: out when I get to the park, but it seemed
- 23:07Speaker 7: like it was throwback Monday at the WBC with the
- 23:11Speaker 7: guys kind of just hanging with each other, including the coaches,
- 23:14Speaker 7: and it was quite amazing. The reporters hung there and
- 23:17Speaker 7: hung there and hung there, and eventually most of us
- 23:19Speaker 7: just left.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Hey, do you think they could have been talking about,
- 23:23Speaker 4: maybe potentially how to handle handshakes at home plate?
- 23:28Speaker 6: Kevin, I don't know.
- 23:29Speaker 7: I didn't see that last night, to be perfectly honest.
- 23:32Speaker 7: I didn't catch it until aft of the game when
- 23:34Speaker 7: I saw on the social media channels all the different
- 23:38Speaker 7: people speculating on what happened. And I know it's been
- 23:40Speaker 7: a talking point today and I imagine I'll be asking
- 23:43Speaker 7: and others will be asking cal Raley about that when
- 23:46Speaker 7: we get to the park. There was a situation the
- 23:48Speaker 7: other night in one of the other games where it
- 23:51Speaker 7: was very similar where the catcher did not shake the
- 23:53Speaker 7: hitter's hand and it looked like the catcher was simply
- 23:56Speaker 7: or he said afterward that it was simply he was
- 23:59Speaker 7: in competitive mode and he wasn't into it. But maybe
- 24:02Speaker 7: something else happened there. So someone speculate that cal Raley
- 24:06Speaker 7: didn't want to get pine tar in his hand. Who knows,
- 24:08Speaker 7: but it's something that will be probably asked tonight.
- 24:12Speaker 4: Do you think it will be easier to get the
- 24:15Speaker 4: entirety of the story once Cal is actually interviewed, and
- 24:17Speaker 4: what do you anticipate kind of that lineup looking like
- 24:20Speaker 4: when Cal shows up to the field today. Because it's
- 24:23Speaker 4: a huge story in baseball. We're here at race camp.
- 24:25Speaker 4: We asked the guys, you know, some of the guys
- 24:28Speaker 4: we're talking about. It seemed like a WWE script that
- 24:30Speaker 4: people are talking about in the clubhouse right now. Obviously,
- 24:34Speaker 4: I think it's great for the game. I think it
- 24:36Speaker 4: shows that it's more than an exhibition game. But I
- 24:38Speaker 4: think we'll have probably some more clarity once Cal answered
- 24:41Speaker 4: some questions.
- 24:42Speaker 7: Yes, I'm sure we'll get more clarity once we hear
- 24:44Speaker 7: from cal and obviously it's a talking point.
- 24:48Speaker 6: And in this day and age.
- 24:50Speaker 7: It's just always amazing to me how these things become
- 24:52Speaker 7: big talking points when there's a lot else going on.
- 24:55Speaker 7: But I do understand it too, and it was unusual.
- 24:59Speaker 7: These guys are teammates with the Seattle Mariners. But again
- 25:03Speaker 7: it's kind of pointless to speculate until we hear from
- 25:06Speaker 7: Ralli what actually happened.
- 25:07Speaker 6: And I don't know what happened. We'll have to find out.
- 25:12Speaker 3: We love Hello Fresh, shout out to them, and over

- 25:36Speaker 1: Well, listen, Scott, I'm trying to stay in my playing
- 25:37Speaker 1: slash fighting shape, so I need the seafood. I need
- 25:40Speaker 1: the protein, and I need.
- 25:41Speaker 4: The veggies, and plus I want to look cool when
- 25:43Speaker 4: people come over and say, Wow, you made all this stuff,
- 25:44Speaker 4: and I'll be like easy peasy.

- 26:14Speaker 1: Did you hear Randy's reply to what happened?
- 26:18Speaker 7: No?
- 26:18Speaker 1: What was that? Randy's reply was that he basically said
- 26:22Speaker 1: to f Off and he said it in three different languages.
- 26:26Speaker 1: He said Mexican, Spanish, English, and oh. And he first said, yeah,
- 26:35Speaker 1: I know that was his that was his words. Basically,
- 26:37Speaker 1: he told him to go to hell, and he said
- 26:40Speaker 1: he can shove it straight up as ass I'm out
- 26:43Speaker 1: giving you yeah cliff notes version.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Yeah, Ken, Sorry, this part got added in late here
- 26:48Speaker 3: as we talked about it during the show. So so
- 26:50Speaker 3: to me, it's like not that big a deal. And
- 26:53Speaker 3: then Randy kind of you know speaks and lays.
- 26:56Speaker 2: This all out.
- 26:58Speaker 6: That changes the whole story.
- 26:59Speaker 7: And if indeed that was what he said, Yes, we
- 27:03Speaker 7: have to find out from cal what prompted that and
- 27:06Speaker 7: what that exchange was rooted in.
- 27:09Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Yeah, because he did go ahead, That's what I was saying.
- 27:16Speaker 2: I was like, bring me, tap me back in.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Coach, you got to give Ken the context because otherwise
- 27:20Speaker 3: I'm like, Eh, it's not that big a deal.
- 27:22Speaker 2: It's like whatever.
- 27:23Speaker 3: But then Randy says stuff postgame and Ken, you've covered
- 27:26Speaker 3: Randy for years. Emotional guy, entertaining guy. Some some people
- 27:30Speaker 3: are like, I don't I can't tell if he's kidding,
- 27:32Speaker 3: But he definitely laid it out pretty good. Buddy's smiling,
- 27:35Speaker 3: he was giving credit to Kyle's family, So it was
- 27:37Speaker 3: kind of all over the place, and people just want
- 27:39Speaker 3: to know, like, are we good?
- 27:41Speaker 2: Are they good? Or did he actually blast him?
- 27:44Speaker 6: Well again, this is something we have to find out today.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Have you seen any difference in the coaching staff mark
- 27:51Speaker 1: Deros's second chance? Has he has he been able to
- 27:55Speaker 1: navigate or or even just more because you're on the
- 27:58Speaker 1: inside with the conversations with him, do you feel like
- 28:00Speaker 1: there's a difference in the sense that he has a
- 28:02Speaker 1: little bit more confidence or ability to navigate the difficult
- 28:07Speaker 1: pitching that he wasn't able to totally navigate the first
- 28:12Speaker 1: time through.
- 28:13Speaker 6: He's definitely more relaxed.
- 28:15Speaker 7: He has said that it's easier the second time as
- 28:18Speaker 7: far as the speed of the game and all the
- 28:20Speaker 7: things that new managers always face when they take over,
- 28:23Speaker 7: and he's more accustomed as well to the pitching restrictions
- 28:27Speaker 7: and those conversations that are taking place with the players
- 28:30Speaker 7: major league clubs.
- 28:31Speaker 6: Not that it's any easier for him. There are certain
- 28:34Speaker 6: challenges that come with that. We've discussed it. But on
- 28:38Speaker 6: the whole, he seems in a better place than he
- 28:41Speaker 6: was last time. Not that he was in a bad place.
- 28:43Speaker 6: He was fine, but he just seems more relaxed. That's
- 28:46Speaker 6: probably the best way to put it. And you can
- 28:48Speaker 6: see even in the interviews I do with him during
- 28:51Speaker 6: the games, he's not tense. He's confident.
- 28:54Speaker 7: I remember in the Great Britain Game they were down
- 28:56Speaker 7: one nothing and he basically told me, fine, we're hitting.
- 29:00Speaker 6: Some balls hard, we're gonna get our runs.
- 29:02Speaker 1: And A. J.
- 29:03Speaker 6: Prazinski, who was in the.
- 29:04Speaker 7: Booth that night said afterwards, well, he's got to be
- 29:07Speaker 7: nervous a little bit.
- 29:07Speaker 6: They're down, but he did not let on.
- 29:10Speaker 7: And Mark de Rosa, when he acts like he's not nervous,
- 29:14Speaker 7: he's not nervous.
- 29:14Speaker 6: If he's nervous, we would probably know.
- 29:18Speaker 4: There's no denying that Aaron Judge is the captain of
- 29:21Speaker 4: this team. Is there someone on the pitching side that
- 29:23Speaker 4: you feel like is kind of the leader of the
- 29:26Speaker 4: pitching staff. Is a guy like Paul Skins, who was
- 29:28Speaker 4: kind of the first guy to be asked, even though
- 29:31Speaker 4: he's a young guy, he's kind of the you know,
- 29:33Speaker 4: the the leader of the pitching staff.
- 29:36Speaker 6: Yes, it's definitely Skeens.
- 29:37Speaker 7: And DeRosa has said more than once that the whole
- 29:42Speaker 7: idea here was to get Judge to be the point
- 29:45Speaker 7: man for the position players in Skins to be the
- 29:47Speaker 7: guy that has that same kind of quality for the
- 29:50Speaker 7: pitching staff. And once those guys committed, and they committed early,
- 29:55Speaker 7: then other players were interested in joining the team as well,
- 29:58Speaker 7: perhaps more interested than they might have been otherwise. I
- 30:01Speaker 7: want to play with Aaron Judge, I want to play
- 30:03Speaker 7: with Paul Skeens, So I don't know that Skeens is
- 30:06Speaker 7: a vocal leader per se, but he certainly is someone
- 30:10Speaker 7: others look to. And as I said, these baseball conversations
- 30:14Speaker 7: that are taking place all the time, it's something that
- 30:17Speaker 7: these guys cherish and they've had a great time with
- 30:20Speaker 7: So definitely Skeens would be that guy.
- 30:23Speaker 1: What has been your interaction with Schemes and Griffin Jacks
- 30:27Speaker 1: and their military background. We saw them buy the tickets
- 30:31Speaker 1: for the servicemen and women. What has been your interaction
- 30:35Speaker 1: when you talk with those guys while they're on Team
- 30:39Speaker 1: USA about what it means to be in this USA uniform.
- 30:44Speaker 7: There's definitely a different feeling for them than there is
- 30:48Speaker 7: for other players, simply because of their military background. And
- 30:51Speaker 7: Skeens has said from the beginning that he's doing this
- 30:55Speaker 7: for the servicemen and service women around the world. He
- 30:57Speaker 7: talked about this last night on the broadcast, how this
- 31:01Speaker 7: is bigger than baseball, It's bigger than them. He knows
- 31:05Speaker 7: that people in the armed services around the world are
- 31:07Speaker 7: watching and he's well aware of that and he wants
- 31:10Speaker 7: to represent properly. And Griffin Jack's the same And as
- 31:13Speaker 7: you said, Eric, those guys combined to buy something like
- 31:16Speaker 7: fifty tickets for the Air Force Baseball team's traveling party,
- 31:20Speaker 7: which includes military officers. By the way, and those guys
- 31:24Speaker 7: were at the game last night. They obviously had a
- 31:26Speaker 7: great time. So for both those players this has a
- 31:30Speaker 7: special meaning, a meaning even beyond what it would mean, say,
- 31:33Speaker 7: for Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber and Aaron Judge. They
- 31:36Speaker 7: have that sense, that feeling from being at the Air
- 31:41Speaker 7: Force Academy that it just gives you a different perspective.
- 31:45Speaker 6: Put it that way.
- 31:46Speaker 1: It's good to terror Scooble, who decided not to come
- 31:49Speaker 1: back for another start. There was some speculation that he might,
- 31:52Speaker 1: and his exact quote from the beginning was, I tried
- 31:55Speaker 1: to make it work, but I just couldn't. You got
- 31:58Speaker 1: me more insight on that in the sense of what
- 32:01Speaker 1: has tried to make it work actually mean.
- 32:05Speaker 7: What it means is that he tried to figure out
- 32:07Speaker 7: a way with his schedule where he could stay on
- 32:12Speaker 7: his normal routine or something close to his normal routine
- 32:15Speaker 7: and still be able to.
- 32:16Speaker 6: Pitch in the WBCA.
- 32:17Speaker 7: Final, which was what he was slated for if he
- 32:20Speaker 7: stayed with the club and opening day, and it just
- 32:23Speaker 7: didn't work out for him, and he was definitely torn
- 32:27Speaker 7: by it. I remember after the Great Britain Game when
- 32:31Speaker 7: we talked to him, you could see and hear just
- 32:35Speaker 7: how torn he was in yesterday the same he said
- 32:37Speaker 7: he hated that he made this decision, but at the
- 32:40Speaker 7: same time he felt, because this is the time of
- 32:44Speaker 7: year where the data shows that pitchers are much more
- 32:47Speaker 7: susceptible to injuries than at other times of the year,
- 32:50Speaker 7: that he had to take care.
- 32:52Speaker 6: He's entering his free agent years.
- 32:53Speaker 7: So the way it worked Eric, if he had pitched
- 32:56Speaker 7: on four days rest in Lakeland after his last outing,
- 33:00Speaker 7: and if he had pitched then again on four days
- 33:02Speaker 7: rest in the WBC Final, it could have worked that way.
- 33:05Speaker 6: Then it would have screwed him up for Opening Day.
- 33:07Speaker 7: And the other part of this is the Tigers don't
- 33:10Speaker 7: want him pitching on four days rest at this time
- 33:12Speaker 7: of year, and he doesn't want to be pitching on
- 33:13Speaker 7: four days rest at this time of year. That's not
- 33:15Speaker 7: how these guys ramp up for the season. So I
- 33:19Speaker 7: understood this from the beginning, and I guess.
- 33:22Speaker 2: If Schooble knew.
- 33:25Speaker 7: Then what he knew now when he made the decision
- 33:27Speaker 7: to join the team, then maybe he would have set
- 33:30Speaker 7: his schedule differently, and maybe it all could have lined
- 33:33Speaker 7: up better. But he is in a very unusual position.
- 33:37Speaker 7: Like we've talked about guys, it's his free agent year.
- 33:40Speaker 7: He stands to max perhaps four hundred million dollars, and
- 33:44Speaker 7: you can understand why he would want to take care
- 33:46Speaker 7: of himself. And I know people are criticizing him and
- 33:48Speaker 7: questioning this, and I wrote the other.
- 33:50Speaker 6: Day, I don't see it. I don't see why he
- 33:52Speaker 6: should be criticized. He did pitch once.
- 33:54Speaker 7: I know it was against Great Britain, but he did
- 33:58Speaker 7: something that very very few pitchers. In fact, I couldn't
- 34:01Speaker 7: find any who were from the US. We're entering their
- 34:06Speaker 7: free agent years and pitching the WBC before.
- 34:09Speaker 6: It hasn't happened.
- 34:10Speaker 1: He did it.
- 34:11Speaker 7: So to say he should have done this, this, and this,
- 34:13Speaker 7: we're talking about one more start, I don't know that
- 34:16Speaker 7: that's necessarily fair given all the nuance here, in all
- 34:19Speaker 7: the circumstances surrounding it.
- 34:22Speaker 3: Ken, let's finish with this. I want to spin it forward.
- 34:24Speaker 3: What do you have for us tonight? So we'll get
- 34:27Speaker 3: again on Fox the US, this time taking on an
- 34:30Speaker 3: Italy team that has plenty of big leaguers. Sure, it's
- 34:33Speaker 3: not the same talent level as the US team. But
- 34:36Speaker 3: this was I want to emphasize what I said to
- 34:38Speaker 3: you at the beginning. This ended up just being a
- 34:40Speaker 3: two run win for the US. They did not blow
- 34:43Speaker 3: out their opponent in their first test. This could be
- 34:45Speaker 3: another test where they'll face big league pitching, and it's
- 34:48Speaker 3: a lineup that has plenty of big leaguers who can match.
- 34:50Speaker 3: So what do you think about this one? Could it
- 34:52Speaker 3: be a tough test and a potential upside opportunity.
- 34:56Speaker 6: Absolutely it can be.
- 34:57Speaker 7: Now it's going to be a challenge in Italy is
- 35:00Speaker 7: starting Michael Lorenzen. Michael Lorenzon, of course, is a major
- 35:03Speaker 7: league veteran of eleven seasons. He is or has been
- 35:06Speaker 7: teammates with a number of players on Team USA. He's
- 35:10Speaker 7: not going to be afraid, but it's going to be
- 35:12Speaker 7: a challenge for him, There's no question about that.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Now.
- 35:15Speaker 7: The lineup is, in my view, not what Mexico's lineup is.
- 35:19Speaker 7: Mexico's lineup was full of major leaguers. Italy's is younger.
- 35:23Speaker 7: This Pasquentino, there's Master Boni, there's a few others. But
- 35:26Speaker 7: there's some interesting young fast players that they have on
- 35:30Speaker 7: their team. Dante Nori Philly's prospect is one, Andrew fisher
- 35:34Speaker 7: Brewers prospect is another. These guys can play, They're interesting
- 35:37Speaker 7: for sure.
- 35:38Speaker 6: Can they beat the US? Any team can beat any
- 35:42Speaker 6: other team.
- 35:42Speaker 7: We know this on any given day. It just seems
- 35:45Speaker 7: to me that what we've seen so far is eventually
- 35:48Speaker 7: the US talent just wears the opponent down, and their
- 35:52Speaker 7: ability to take pitches and just grind through opposing staffs,
- 35:57Speaker 7: it's what defines this team.
- 35:59Speaker 6: And for that reason, I would expect that they're going
- 36:02Speaker 6: to win.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Now.
- 36:02Speaker 6: If they don't win and then Mexico beats.
- 36:06Speaker 7: Italy tomorrow, you have three teams tied at three to
- 36:09Speaker 7: one in Pool B and we'll go to the tie breaker,
- 36:13Speaker 7: that would be interesting. I just don't expect.
- 36:15Speaker 2: It to happen. Yeah, and again we would look back
- 36:18Speaker 2: at the US winning by two runs here. So it's
- 36:21Speaker 2: crazy scenarios, but just preparing everyone just in case you
- 36:24Speaker 2: never know. There have been upsets in the WBC.
- 36:26Speaker 3: Ken enjoy the night the later game two at nine
- 36:29Speaker 3: o'clock Fox one, Fox as well, appreciate you have fun.
- 36:34Speaker 3: Thanks guys, money money, money, This one's knuck under the radar.
- 36:43Speaker 3: But don't let it get past Eric Kratz, who is
- 36:46Speaker 3: reporting live from Pennsylvania right now for more on the
- 36:49Speaker 3: Phillies and Jesus Lozardo reaching an agreement on a five
- 36:52Speaker 3: year extension worth one hundred and thirty five million dollars,
- 36:56Speaker 3: and Jeff Passen along with the Phillies show host Jim
- 36:59Speaker 3: Sous on the scene to report that one what do
- 37:03Speaker 3: you think Kratz, Jesus Lizardo swiped off the market.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Now this deal will start in twenty twenty seven.
- 37:10Speaker 1: I mean we did it. We did our own like
- 37:13Speaker 1: preview or guessing who's going to be an extension candidate.
- 37:17Speaker 1: And I had actually heard that with them not bringing
- 37:21Speaker 1: Ranger back, there was conversations before about possibly extending Jesus Lizardo,
- 37:30Speaker 1: and then it was like, well, okay, how amicable he
- 37:34Speaker 1: is to a extension will kind of be whether or
- 37:38Speaker 1: not they bring or really push for Ranger. And then
- 37:41Speaker 1: Ranger obviously went away to Boston and the Phillies keep
- 37:46Speaker 1: their guy. Hajzus Lozardo showed he was healthy. You know,
- 37:50Speaker 1: I think there's a there's any kind of stigma on
- 37:54Speaker 1: pictures that frow that hard from that from that size
- 37:59Speaker 1: of body, you go, okay, is he gonna stay healthy?
- 38:02Speaker 1: He proved so much that he is the next valuable
- 38:05Speaker 1: piece for the Phillies, which I think a team that's
- 38:10Speaker 1: built to want to win the World Series, they need depth,
- 38:13Speaker 1: but they need quality depth because you're not sure what
- 38:17Speaker 1: you're gonna get from Nola, You're not sure what you're
- 38:20Speaker 1: gonna get from Wheeler, so you need a guy right
- 38:23Speaker 1: behind Christopher Sanchez. But also, in a normal year, haysus
- 38:28Speaker 1: Lozardo might be the third best pitcher on this team,
- 38:31Speaker 1: but he may may need him to step up. And
- 38:33Speaker 1: the fact that he's gonna be here for the next
- 38:35Speaker 1: there be here in Philly for the next five years
- 38:38Speaker 1: is tremendous and I love that they did it in
- 38:41Speaker 1: what would be his free agent year next year.
- 38:44Speaker 2: That's right.
- 38:45Speaker 3: If he has a banger year, he would have gotten
- 38:47Speaker 3: I think a good amount more, probably closer to the
- 38:49Speaker 3: two hundred range, but you eliminate some of that risk.
- 38:51Speaker 2: He had some ups and downs last year.
- 38:53Speaker 3: There was all the pitch tipping conversations that we had
- 38:55Speaker 3: going on, but yeah, there's no doubt the stuff is there,
- 38:58Speaker 3: and the Phillies want to make sure they've got the
- 38:59Speaker 3: rotation in gear for this run that still includes Harper
- 39:03Speaker 3: and Schwarbur and Turner for a while. Hey, the ft
- 39:06Speaker 3: spring training tours engineered by fasten All. Learn more information
- 39:11Speaker 3: about the company at Fastenall dot com, FA, S T
- 39:13Speaker 3: E n a l dot com. This has been an
- 39:18Speaker 3: awesome spring training tour and props to Fastenall for helping
- 39:21Speaker 3: to support us to make it happen. By far the biggest, bestest,
- 39:25Speaker 3: longest one we've done.
- 39:27Speaker 2: This is week four out of five.
- 39:29Speaker 3: After we're done at Raise Camp, we head to Sarasota
- 39:34Speaker 3: Orioles Camp, then Fort Myers for two days at camp,
- 39:36Speaker 3: the Twins and the Red Sox. AJ's back tomorrow at
- 39:40Speaker 3: Orioles Camp. Next week we'll finish up with the rest
- 39:42Speaker 3: of the Florida teams besides the Yankees.
- 39:45Speaker 2: The Yankees are.
- 39:47Speaker 3: Being a little stubborn, so we're not heading over there anyway.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Let's get back to some news topics. So we talked
- 40:07Speaker 3: about Jesus Lozardo. There's a signing that happened about twenty
- 40:11Speaker 3: four hours maybe forty eight at this point ago, a
- 40:14Speaker 3: pitcher who I like, I think is going to be
- 40:16Speaker 3: a valuable member of the Nationals for a little bit
- 40:18Speaker 3: and then probably another team. Starting in July, Zach Lttel
- 40:21Speaker 3: signed a deal. I mean, it is what it is.
- 40:24Speaker 3: The Nats are in a rebuild. They're going to sign
- 40:26Speaker 3: this guy, trade him at the deadline if he looks
- 40:28Speaker 3: like he did last year, and he looked really solid
- 40:31Speaker 3: last year. Era was three eight to one for the
- 40:34Speaker 3: Rais and then the Reds. He chucked one hundred and
- 40:36Speaker 3: eighty six and two thirds innings last season. His deal
- 40:39Speaker 3: with the Nats seven million guaranteed incentives can bring that
- 40:42Speaker 3: up to nine and a half. So Kratz, everyone kept
- 40:48Speaker 3: mentioning him and Lucas Giulido Giolito has not signed yet.
- 40:53Speaker 3: But here's a guy who really struggled to find a job, and.
- 40:57Speaker 2: To me, it's a little bit confusing.
- 40:58Speaker 3: I mean, the money's okay, but it took a really
- 41:01Speaker 3: long time for him to land in a spot that
- 41:03Speaker 3: ends up being a non contender.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, you joked about it, but it's the
- 41:09Speaker 1: best case scenario, like you put together whatever it is,
- 41:12Speaker 1: twenty I think it's usually twenty two, starts by the
- 41:15Speaker 1: trade deadline and then you move on again. But I'm
- 41:20Speaker 1: just confused and I'm not sure why Zach Lutel one
- 41:25Speaker 1: has to wait that long because he ended up ultimately
- 41:27Speaker 1: getting a seven million dollar guaranteed contract. So what were
- 41:33Speaker 1: teams Teams were like, Yeah, we're good, Like we're definitely,
- 41:37Speaker 1: we're good with our five guys. To me, that's where
- 41:39Speaker 1: the mistake is. If a team is good with the
- 41:42Speaker 1: five guys that they have. Look at the successful teams,
- 41:45Speaker 1: they're going six to seven deep right now. Maybe Zach
- 41:49Speaker 1: didn't want to be the sixth guy on a team.
- 41:51Speaker 1: He wanted to make sure he was in that five,
- 41:54Speaker 1: in one of those five pitchers because he has to
- 41:57Speaker 1: continue to build his value. Even though he had a
- 41:59Speaker 1: three last year. He made all his starts the last
- 42:02Speaker 1: two seasons. I'm confused at where the disconnect for him was,
- 42:09Speaker 1: because he clearly wasn't like, oh, I'm holding out for
- 42:13Speaker 1: a two year deal, but I just I have a Yeah,
- 42:17Speaker 1: I'm confused at some of the teams that are really
- 42:21Speaker 1: a little bit on that thin depth line that they
- 42:24Speaker 1: couldn't have gotten Zach Hotel for ten million.
- 42:28Speaker 3: Yeah, he's thirty years old and KP. I guess some
- 42:32Speaker 3: teams not loving the stat cast page. I mean, he's
- 42:37Speaker 3: one of the best in baseball on the control side.
- 42:40Speaker 3: He doesn't walk anybody. The chase percentage numbers are really good.
- 42:44Speaker 3: There is a lot of blue on the rest of
- 42:46Speaker 3: the page, so obviously he's not a vlow guy. His
- 42:49Speaker 3: fastball below is a tick under. It's ninety one point nine.
- 42:52Speaker 3: It's a little under ninety two exit vl barrel percentage
- 42:57Speaker 3: with and K percentage. Those are some of the numbers
- 42:59Speaker 3: where he's on the lower end on the percentiles. So
- 43:02Speaker 3: to me, that's the more basic way of looking behind
- 43:06Speaker 3: the scenes and under the hood for how teams evaluate
- 43:09Speaker 3: pitching talent and project them going forward. To me, that's
- 43:13Speaker 3: the only thing I could come up with here. But
- 43:15Speaker 3: he's done a really nice job two years now. Sub
- 43:18Speaker 3: for era eating up innings.
- 43:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, honestly, Scott, I tuned you out after
- 43:23Speaker 4: I read the headline he started talking about under the
- 43:25Speaker 4: hood and the analytics. I see one hundred and eighty
- 43:28Speaker 4: innings pitched. I see a sub four era, and I
- 43:31Speaker 4: think about the place we were at yesterday in the
- 43:33Speaker 4: Atlanta Braves, a team that probably needs more starting pitching.
- 43:36Speaker 4: You don't think they would value a guy that can
- 43:39Speaker 4: go out there and keep a ball game close and
- 43:41Speaker 4: eat innings and turn it over to the bullpen. I
- 43:44Speaker 4: don't think this is a guy too. He doesn't strike
- 43:47Speaker 4: me as a guy who was probably going into free
- 43:48Speaker 4: agency asking for a six or seven or eight year deal.
- 43:52Speaker 4: You know, when the hundreds of millions of dollars for
- 43:54Speaker 4: this guy to have to wait this long to sign
- 43:56Speaker 4: a deal, I think probably has something to do with
- 44:00Speaker 4: what is looming next year potentially, But it's crazy to
- 44:04Speaker 4: me that you just see the numbers on paper, you know,
- 44:08Speaker 4: one hundred and eighty innings pitched, three eight one. Ear
- 44:12Speaker 4: how this guy has to wait till the middle of
- 44:14Speaker 4: spring trading to find a job, and to find a
- 44:16Speaker 4: job with a team that's not really eving a contender.
- 44:19Speaker 4: He's now just going there to perform and get traded
- 44:22Speaker 4: and hopefully be flipped for prospect. It is crazy that
- 44:26Speaker 4: in this day and age, we don't value things.
- 44:29Speaker 5: That should be valuable.
- 44:31Speaker 4: I know that we have these you know, analytics and
- 44:33Speaker 4: this entire other part of the game that we can
- 44:37Speaker 4: try to project out. Hey, he doesn't throw hard enough,
- 44:40Speaker 4: or he doesn't miss bats, or he doesn't get chased.
- 44:42Speaker 4: What he does is get it done, So good for
- 44:45Speaker 4: him for finally you know, getting some money and finding
- 44:48Speaker 4: a home. But I expect this guy to be someone
- 44:51Speaker 4: you know, in a couple of months from now, we're
- 44:52Speaker 4: talking about is maybe the most covenant starting pitcher free
- 44:55Speaker 4: agent moving. We're not free agent trade deadline acquisition, because
- 45:00Speaker 4: it's going to happen a couple of months from now.
- 45:01Speaker 4: He's going to continue to get out, he's going to
- 45:03Speaker 4: continue to eat innings, he's going to put his team
- 45:06Speaker 4: in a position to win, and he's going to be
- 45:08Speaker 4: very valuable at the trade deadline.
- 45:10Speaker 1: From the player's point of view, the frustration for me,
- 45:15Speaker 1: if I was in Zaclytel's shoes, I would say, what
- 45:18Speaker 1: else do I need to do? Like, I'm not going
- 45:20Speaker 1: to be a guy that's going to come out and
- 45:22Speaker 1: throw one hundred for one hundred and eighty innings like
- 45:25Speaker 1: he's good. He's a guy that's going to throw a
- 45:28Speaker 1: ton of strikes. He's going to get contact. Clearly based
- 45:33Speaker 1: on his numbers it was weaker contact, and you just
- 45:37Speaker 1: you get frustrated going through free agency saying I can't
- 45:42Speaker 1: change who I am, I can't get taller, I can't
- 45:45Speaker 1: throw it that much harder, And you say, well, is
- 45:48Speaker 1: this really? Like is this what I have to keep
- 45:50Speaker 1: dealing with every every free agency period. I saw it
- 45:54Speaker 1: in I saw it in position players that were some
- 45:56Speaker 1: of my buddies, Like, dude hits a dude hits two
- 46:00Speaker 1: with fifteen homers and fifty RBI is coming off the
- 46:05Speaker 1: bench and you can't find a big league job the
- 46:07Speaker 1: next year, And he's like, how frustrating? How frustrating is
- 46:11Speaker 1: this that I put together what is considered a good
- 46:14Speaker 1: season and then you don't find a big league job.
- 46:17Speaker 1: And it's it's something that's like, I can't change who
- 46:20Speaker 1: I am. So what's Zach Lytel supposed to do? He's
- 46:24Speaker 1: gonna make some good money and he's gonna get traded
- 46:26Speaker 1: to a contender. But that's just it. Can it can
- 46:29Speaker 1: weigh on a player for a little bit.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Boo boo bet MGM, locks sucks. I got hooked yesterday
- 46:42Speaker 3: Kratz Venezuela by four.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Damn it tried to get cute.
- 46:46Speaker 3: I know we all lost our first locks of the year, beautiful,
- 46:51Speaker 3: you know, you know I felt keen closest was actually.
- 46:54Speaker 2: KP Bobby Wird pull pull little juice on that one.
- 46:59Speaker 4: Yeah, he didn't quite win me the bet, but I
- 47:02Speaker 4: think the idea behind the bet was, Hey, these guys
- 47:06Speaker 4: are competitive, right. You see Gunner Henderson come in play
- 47:09Speaker 4: short step get four hits. I mean, what a game.
- 47:12Speaker 4: And I think he just missed hitting a home run
- 47:14Speaker 4: in that game too, But that was an unbelievable performance
- 47:17Speaker 4: by Bobby Witt. So although I put the money out
- 47:20Speaker 4: there and I didn't receive any back, I think the
- 47:22Speaker 4: idea behind the bet was I had good intentions.
- 47:25Speaker 1: Okay much basically you said, well, That's what I meant
- 47:29Speaker 1: to say was he was gonna do good. So we'll
- 47:31Speaker 1: check with bet MGM see if we can have a
- 47:34Speaker 1: do good over under.
- 47:36Speaker 5: Even money, even money on do good.
- 47:38Speaker 3: Or hey he's going to hit the ball over three
- 47:41Speaker 3: hundred feet today.
- 47:44Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:47Speaker 3: Let's see what you have for us tonight. So we
- 47:49Speaker 3: have another few games tonight in the WBC. You don't
- 47:51Speaker 3: have to pick the Team USA game, but you certainly can.
- 47:54Speaker 3: Where are you going tonight, KP.
- 47:56Speaker 5: I took Team Israel.
- 47:58Speaker 4: It was kind of slim picking in turn of individual
- 48:01Speaker 4: bets at this point, so I just took Team Israel
- 48:04Speaker 4: to win today. I know they've kind of already sort
- 48:07Speaker 4: of accomplished your goal of winning a game in this
- 48:10Speaker 4: pool and not having to qualify for the next one.
- 48:12Speaker 4: But I do like their lineup. They do have a
- 48:14Speaker 4: mixture of big leaguers on that lineup. I think they
- 48:17Speaker 4: go out and they play hard today and they find
- 48:19Speaker 4: a way to get a win.
- 48:22Speaker 1: I think the Netherlands are hungry, so I think the
- 48:24Speaker 1: Netherlands are going to win. And I parlayed that with
- 48:27Speaker 1: the home team in Puerto Rico. I don't know if
- 48:29Speaker 1: they're actually the home team, but they're playing in their
- 48:31Speaker 1: home country and they are feeling it right now. So
- 48:34Speaker 1: I'm going against both of you guys, but I'm parlaying
- 48:36Speaker 1: that for a plus one twenty eight.
- 48:40Speaker 2: I'll take Canada.
- 48:41Speaker 3: I think they've got some nice platoon advantages tonight. I
- 48:44Speaker 3: think the plus two hundred piece for me looks intriguing.
- 48:48Speaker 3: This team actually had a little more hype than they've
- 48:51Speaker 3: delivered on the field heading into the tournament. There's still
- 48:54Speaker 3: a chance for them to prove that, so I think
- 48:56Speaker 3: Canada has a shot tonight to handle Puerto Rico. Puerto
- 49:00Speaker 3: Rico team that's certainly been playing well, but they're prety
- 49:05Speaker 3: advanced too, so that's part of it, right yes, doesn't
- 49:11Speaker 3: that change.
- 49:12Speaker 1: Things a little bit?
- 49:12Speaker 2: I mean Edwind Diaz isn't pitching tonight.
- 49:15Speaker 1: It does, It does, And I think Canada is hungry
- 49:19Speaker 1: they need I think they need this win. If I'm
- 49:21Speaker 1: not mistaken, I think they need to win, and I
- 49:25Speaker 1: think they need some I think they need a run
- 49:27Speaker 1: differential too.
- 49:28Speaker 4: So you know with Puerto Rico, Yeah, I mean I
- 49:32Speaker 4: think Canada needs to win obviously, but I also think
- 49:36Speaker 4: they need to go out and score a lot of
- 49:37Speaker 4: runs in order to have a chance to advance.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:40Speaker 3: So so Puerto Rico, like I mentioned, they already are in.
- 49:43Speaker 3: They beat Cuba last night four to one, and like
- 49:46Speaker 3: I mentioned, Diaz pitched already, so he's not going to pitch,
- 49:48Speaker 3: you know, he's got some restrictions to it, as all
- 49:50Speaker 3: of them do. So for Canada, they're won in one
- 49:53Speaker 3: in pool play. They lost to Panama. That was the
- 49:55Speaker 3: big issue for them is they lost to Panama. They
- 49:59Speaker 3: were favor to win that one. They beat Columbia. So
- 50:02Speaker 3: tonight against Puerto Rico, you've got let me see what
- 50:07Speaker 3: the scenario is. I'm trying to find it on MLB.
- 50:09Speaker 3: I guess they have to win. That would put them
- 50:10Speaker 3: in a tie. I believe with Cuba then they'd both
- 50:14Speaker 3: be two and one, and I think they still have
- 50:16Speaker 3: one game left to go, so there's more to go there.
- 50:18Speaker 3: I'm not going to spend ten minutes trying to figure
- 50:19Speaker 3: out the qualifying situation right now, but all you have
- 50:24Speaker 3: to know is things do get crazy. Korea had to
- 50:26Speaker 3: win by five runs yesterday. We talked about that yesterday.
- 50:29Speaker 3: That was cool. All right, there's our locks for the day.

- 52:17Speaker 1: a little things there. Right now, you're in Charlotte County,
- 52:20Speaker 1: that's where they're at and they have the hat. New
