- Adam Rutz: Perspective on life is everything. Twenty-five years ago today, on september eleventh, two thousand one, thousands of Americans woke up expecting a normal Tuesday morning. They went to work, they boarded airplanes, they kissed their families goodbye, and within hours, their lives and the lives of their families were changed forever. Nearly three thousand innocent people lost their lives that day. First responders ran toward danger when every instinct tells you to run away. And in the years that followed, brave men and women raised their hands to serve our country, knowing that doing so could mean putting their own lives on the line. We should never take that sacrifice for granted. I'm incredibly proud to be an American. I'm grateful to live in a country where we have the freedom to chase a dream, build something meaningful, raise a family, compete. Create and pursue opportunity. And those freedoms exist because people have been so willing to sacrifice for them. So when you're going through something difficult, ask yourself this question: compared to what? Your situation might be hard. Your problems are real. Maybe business is struggling. Maybe you failed at something. Maybe life just hasn't gone the way you expected. I'm not telling you those things don't matter. I'm telling you to gain perspective. Because somewhere right now, somebody would do almost anything to trade situations with you. Someone is fighting for their life. Someone just lost somebody they love. Someone who would give anything for one more ordinary morning with that person they lost. And 25 years ago today, thousands of families learned just how quickly life can change. So take a second. Look around. Be grateful for the people you love. Be grateful for today. Be grateful for the opportunity in front of you. And be grateful for every American who has been willing to put their life on the line so the rest of us can live with the freedoms we have. Today we remember the lives lost on September 11th. We honor the first responders. We honor the men and women who served our country afterwards. And we remember the strength and resilience of the American people. Your situation right now might be difficult, but before you let it consume you, ask yourself: compared to what? Get your perspective back, be grateful for what you have, and make something meaningful out of today. Mindset, process, discipline, execution. That's mental performance daily.
