Latest / THE DAILY BRIEF / Trump reportedly weighs MASSIVE STRIKE against Iran
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Those continued strikes come as the President's reportedly reaching the
- 0:03Speaker 1: end of his rope with the Runs regime and now
- 0:05Speaker 1: considering a full scale military assault. It's also weighing in
- 0:09Speaker 1: today on other global players in this conflict, saying he
- 0:14Speaker 1: is agreement now from Vladimir Putin and Dshijin Ping that
- 0:18Speaker 1: they will not sell weapons to Iran.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Retired US Snavy Rear Admiral Mark Montgomery will join us
- 0:24Speaker 2: right here in moments.
- 0:25Speaker 1: The first you go to Chief International Correspondent Steve Harrigan.
- 0:27Speaker 1: He's in Tel Aviv this afternoon for US High Steve.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Jillian. Ship traffic through the Strait of Horror moves really
- 0:34Speaker 3: almost at a complete stand still, just three ships a
- 0:37Speaker 3: day for the past three days passing through that straight
- 0:40Speaker 3: And this happens as US forces continue to grind away
- 0:44Speaker 3: night after night, attacking Iranian military positions inside of Iran.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Last night, the thirteenth night in a row. The attacks
- 0:52Speaker 3: began about two am. They lasted for more than two hours.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Time President Trump spoke to Axios warned about a potential
- 0:59Speaker 3: massive invasion of Iran, but he did say he hadn't
- 1:03Speaker 3: reached that decision yet. I think President Trump's stresses over
- 1:07Speaker 3: and over is that Iran cannot feel allowed to have
- 1:09Speaker 3: a nuclear weapon.
- 1:10Speaker 4: Here's the president, We're doing very well against the Islamic
- 1:16Speaker 4: Republic of Iran. We're doing extremely well. They would like
- 1:21Speaker 4: to do something, but I say they're not ready yet.
- 1:23Speaker 4: They need more of the same. They're not ready yet.
- 1:26Speaker 4: They had some evil intentions. We cannot let them have
- 1:30Speaker 4: a nuclear weapon.
- 1:33Speaker 3: One sign perhaps of a bigger battle ahead on the horizon,
- 1:36Speaker 3: the number of mayors of Israeli cities have opened up
- 1:40Speaker 3: bomb shelters across the country. They usually do that when
- 1:43Speaker 3: the threat level has been raised. It is raised now
- 1:46Speaker 3: Chilean back to you.
- 1:47Speaker 1: See, we're hearing a increased chatter from administration officials through
- 1:53Speaker 1: reporters of the presidents considering making some kind of a
- 1:56Speaker 1: major military move and escalation in this conflict. What are
- 2:01Speaker 1: you hearing from your sources on the ground in the region.
- 2:06Speaker 3: I think it's clear by the surge in forces, the
- 2:09Speaker 3: surge not only in material but also things like medics
- 2:13Speaker 3: to Germany, that there is a range of options for
- 2:16Speaker 3: the president. With fifty thousand forces in the region, there's
- 2:20Speaker 3: certainly a wide range of options he could have, including
- 2:23Speaker 3: what he says, a massive invasion, a massive attack. That's
- 2:26Speaker 3: something that certainly people here feel a sense it could
- 2:30Speaker 3: be coming. Bomb shelters are open, people are on really
- 2:33Speaker 3: high alert walking around. There is a sense of tension
- 2:36Speaker 3: in the region. But for the president, one of his
- 2:39Speaker 3: great strengths is that he's unpredictable. So whether he'll take
- 2:42Speaker 3: that route or whether he'll use it for a compromise
- 2:45Speaker 3: ordeal still not clear at this point.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and Steve, A big obvious part of the equation
- 2:50Speaker 2: here has been the rise and energy prices as things
- 2:53Speaker 2: have been escalating. We see oil back near that ninety
- 2:56Speaker 2: dollars mark, although it is down just a bit today.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Gas prices you're at home have top four dollars a
- 3:01Speaker 2: gallon in this escalation, in this phase of the war, Steve,
- 3:07Speaker 2: how much are you hearing that this puts pressure on
- 3:10Speaker 2: the situation, It increases the urgency.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Certainly that's been a key factor the President and the
- 3:17Speaker 3: administration aware of the pain that those high gas prices
- 3:21Speaker 3: cause people, of course, gas jumping over oil jumping over
- 3:24Speaker 3: one hundred dollars a barrel. Briefly this week, that's when
- 3:28Speaker 3: the Hoo thieves opened up a potential second front. They
- 3:30Speaker 3: attacked two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea. So
- 3:34Speaker 3: you have the problems in the Strait of Horror moves,
- 3:36Speaker 3: Saudi Arabia trying to go around that through the Red Sea.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Now attacks by the hoo Thies there that really spiked
- 3:41Speaker 3: oil prices. That is another problem, a potential second front
- 3:45Speaker 3: for this administration to deal with.
- 3:49Speaker 1: All right, Steve, we've got to leave it there. Thanks
- 3:50Speaker 1: for joining us, Thank you stay close. Actually, you know
- 3:55Speaker 1: what before we let you go, one last question here.
- 3:57Speaker 1: If you look at the timeline real fast eve, we're
- 4:00Speaker 1: getting towards the end of the sixty day period that
- 4:05Speaker 1: was supposed to be essentially a moratorium on any kind
- 4:09Speaker 1: of military engagement while this MoU played out. It is
- 4:13Speaker 1: dead and gone at this point. But are you hearing
- 4:16Speaker 1: from the Israelis any hope that in the next few days,
- 4:20Speaker 1: in the next week, it might yet be reborn again.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Just actually the reverse. We're hearing a backbencher Israeli lawmaker
- 4:31Speaker 3: really getting criticized for coming out and saying, well, everybody
- 4:34Speaker 3: knows there's going to be a major invasion, perhaps as
- 4:37Speaker 3: early as this weekend, and that Israel will take part
- 4:40Speaker 3: in it. So there is a sense here of impending
- 4:43Speaker 3: major action. That lawmaker was rebuked for speaking out of turn,
- 4:47Speaker 3: but there is a sense here that things are building
- 4:50Speaker 3: even after three years of war, a real weariness here,
- 4:53Speaker 3: a real fatigue with war, and yet high alert that
- 4:56Speaker 3: big things could be ahead and Israel could play a
- 4:59Speaker 3: major part.
- 5:00Speaker 1: All right, Steve, We're gonna let you go for real
- 5:02Speaker 1: this time. Stay safe out there, thinks.
