- 0:27Speaker 3: Come on like be a number one biggest fan.
- 0:30Speaker 2: If you can love yourself, how the hell are you
- 0:32Speaker 2: gonna love somebody else? Can I get an amen?
- 0:34Speaker 3: And happy Spring has sprung?
- 0:37Speaker 1: Spring is officially spring. Do you feel like it feels
- 0:40Speaker 1: like spring?
- 0:40Speaker 4: Yeah? You can feel it in the air and the
- 0:42Speaker 4: air is starting to smell like jasmine and freezes, which
- 0:46Speaker 4: is always how you know.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I love it? Well, Today we are chatting a very
- 0:50Speaker 1: fun topic.
- 0:51Speaker 3: You've probably seen.
- 0:53Speaker 1: It on your doom scrolls late at night, and it
- 0:56Speaker 1: is the Great lock In. And we're going to be
- 0:59Speaker 1: chatting the Chicks Guide to the Great lock In because
- 1:02Speaker 1: we kind of discussed this last week and I hadn't
- 1:05Speaker 1: even seen any of this, believe it or not, ripleys.
- 1:11Speaker 1: But when we were talking our Hot Chicks Spring checklist
- 1:15Speaker 1: last week, my last thing on the checklist was to
- 1:17Speaker 1: lock in for spring and then literally two days later,
- 1:22Speaker 1: I get all this lock the Great lock In content
- 1:24Speaker 1: and I was like, there you go.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Which being like, there's we're in the last what is
- 1:29Speaker 4: it the year?
- 1:31Speaker 3: Like, now's the time to lock in?
- 1:33Speaker 4: You've got four months left to like check your goals
- 1:36Speaker 4: before twenty twenty six, And we were like, oh my gosh.
- 1:40Speaker 1: And also so many of you chicks like really loved
- 1:44Speaker 1: that one piece of the checklist. You loved multiple pieces
- 1:47Speaker 1: of the checklist, but that was one that we got
- 1:49Speaker 1: lots of feedback on.
- 1:50Speaker 2: So we were like, let's dive into it more.
- 1:51Speaker 4: It's clearly resonating with a lot of people, so let's
- 1:54Speaker 4: put a Broke Chicks twist on it.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I am like every other girl, yeah, and I wouldn't
- 1:59Speaker 2: have it any other way.
- 2:00Speaker 1: But before we get into it, we must discuss a
- 2:03Speaker 1: position of the we yep, So, Sally Beddy, love my life?
- 2:07Speaker 2: What are you obsessed with?
- 2:08Speaker 3: Have you heard of mister fantasy?
- 2:10Speaker 2: Do I have Internet connection? Of course I've heard of
- 2:13Speaker 2: mister fantasy.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I am upset.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Now let me ask you the real question, mister fantasy.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Smash or pass?
- 2:20Speaker 3: Smash?
- 2:21Speaker 2: Sash now smash.
- 2:24Speaker 4: So for anybody who isn't familiar if this hasn't been
- 2:27Speaker 4: all over your fyp. Somebody by the name of mister
- 2:31Speaker 4: Fantasy started posting on TikTok somebody last month, right, and
- 2:36Speaker 4: he's this very like quirky British character.
- 2:40Speaker 3: He has almost like the.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Doors like haircut, like a black bob with like a
- 2:44Speaker 4: blunt front fringe, and wears very like quirky rock and
- 2:51Speaker 4: roll style outfits.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And he's sort of like the Beatles meets like seventies disco.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Yeah, it's he's definitely, yeah, a quirky character that I
- 3:02Speaker 4: think people were like, ah, who's this guy? But then
- 3:05Speaker 4: also he draws a striking resemblance to kJ Appa aka
- 3:11Speaker 4: Archie from Riverdale and.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Erraord Jack from The Map That Leads to You, which
- 3:15Speaker 1: just came out on Prime Video.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Yeah, and so a lot of people were being like,
- 3:19Speaker 4: oh my god, like, this guy looks so much like
- 3:21Speaker 4: kJ Appa, what is going on? But then as he
- 3:25Speaker 4: started posting more videos, people were like, no way, like
- 3:28Speaker 4: what is actually going on because he has the.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Same tattoos as kJ Affer.
- 3:34Speaker 4: When you actually like get close ups of his face,
- 3:37Speaker 4: he has the same freckles and like beauty spots on
- 3:40Speaker 4: his hands and things like that. But people were like why, Like, yeah,
- 3:45Speaker 4: I mean everyone knew it was kJ because as soon
- 3:47Speaker 4: as I saw it, I was like that's kJ Appa.
- 3:49Speaker 4: All the comments at first when he was just like
- 3:52Speaker 4: first posting, some people like this just looks.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Like is it him? Is it not right?
- 3:57Speaker 4: Because I think a lot of people are thrown off
- 3:58Speaker 4: by the teeth. So he has like now a very
- 4:03Speaker 4: iconic gap tooth, and the teeth are completely.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Different to kJ Abba, but they look so real.
- 4:09Speaker 4: But again, like this man is an actor, like this
- 4:12Speaker 4: is what he does, so taking on, I think he
- 4:14Speaker 4: just fully committed.
- 4:15Speaker 2: To it, never confirmed nor denied.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Exactly because I think that plays into obviously the whole
- 4:22Speaker 4: fantasy of mister Fantasy.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Yeah, and he's.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Just dropped his first single, Mister Fantasy, self titled, and it's.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Actually pretty fucking It's a banger.
- 4:34Speaker 3: It's like an eighty synth bop.
- 4:36Speaker 4: And I'm so interested to see what this is for,
- 4:39Speaker 4: because I think that's the big question, people like, is
- 4:42Speaker 4: this for like a new TV show?
- 4:43Speaker 3: Is it for a movie?
- 4:44Speaker 4: Now?
- 4:45Speaker 1: He's going into a music career because a lot of
- 4:47Speaker 1: the interviews for the Map that leads to you that
- 4:51Speaker 1: was coming out, which also has Madeline Kline in it
- 4:53Speaker 1: from Outer Banks. A lot of interviews from that that
- 4:58Speaker 1: was coming up with somehow he was talking about music.
- 5:00Speaker 1: He was either rating a song or it was like,
- 5:02Speaker 1: what's your song of the summer? Like there were questions
- 5:05Speaker 1: like that coming up a lot in the interviews, and
- 5:09Speaker 1: a lot of the songs that he was saying I
- 5:11Speaker 1: felt fit very similar to this style, Like it was
- 5:15Speaker 1: very like fun summer vibes, which is very much what
- 5:19Speaker 1: I'm getting from mister Fantasy's Mister Fantasy.
- 5:22Speaker 2: So yeah, and I just I think he's so hot.
- 5:26Speaker 4: It's so I just find it so funny that you're
- 5:29Speaker 4: committing to this character and this is your like musical project,
- 5:35Speaker 4: because I think as well the fact that it's happening
- 5:37Speaker 4: in parallel to the press of this film, where you know,
- 5:40Speaker 4: he's being like the classic hot front man in like
- 5:44Speaker 4: a romance film, and then at the exact same time
- 5:48Speaker 4: he's doing this like really wacky, wild mister Fantasy character.
- 5:52Speaker 1: How many followers does mister Fantasy have now, let's have
- 5:56Speaker 1: a look.
- 5:57Speaker 3: He's got three hundred and ninety thousand follows.
- 6:00Speaker 5: I would have thought he would have like a million
- 6:03Speaker 5: that's still really good, still a lot and like a
- 6:07Speaker 5: lot of his the actual tiktoks are, you know, like
- 6:10Speaker 5: in the millions, So it's definitely reached a lot of people,
- 6:14Speaker 5: even if they haven't clicked follow it's.
- 6:16Speaker 2: One I seen kJ halfa yeah, and I just love it.
- 6:21Speaker 4: He's the sort of person that, with the characters that
- 6:23Speaker 4: he's played in the past, like he so easily could
- 6:25Speaker 4: just rest on his role of being a heart throb
- 6:29Speaker 4: to many out there and just play that safe role.
- 6:32Speaker 4: But I'm like, oh, no, you're actually a little freak,
- 6:35Speaker 4: yeah in a weirdo and you have a great sense
- 6:37Speaker 4: of humor and the music is actually good.
- 6:40Speaker 1: I think to be in Riverdale you have to be
- 6:42Speaker 1: a little bit of a frequent sense of humor to
- 6:44Speaker 1: be honest. True, my obsession is and it's kind of
- 6:48Speaker 1: a question to you as well. Oh, seventy two percent
- 6:51Speaker 1: of people say they would pick their partner over one
- 6:54Speaker 1: million dollars.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Oh that's nice, I know, but then made.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Me think about the other percent that was like, no,
- 7:01Speaker 2: I'll take the million.
- 7:03Speaker 1: So my question to you is, would you take one
- 7:06Speaker 1: million dollars or would you choose your partner? My partner
- 7:09Speaker 1: is there a de certain amount of money. No that
- 7:12Speaker 1: would Yeah, no, no.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I would live in a box same sames at all.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Literally, but I was like, that is a wild stat
- 7:21Speaker 1: I'm happy that it was seventy two percent because I
- 7:23Speaker 1: feel like that shows a lot of people feel like
- 7:25Speaker 1: that they're with the right person.
- 7:26Speaker 4: Yeah, but that's the thing, like, think of all the
- 7:29Speaker 4: people that are stuck in relationships with complete duds. And
- 7:32Speaker 4: also a lot of people are stuck in relationships with
- 7:34Speaker 4: people because of the like financial commitment you have to
- 7:38Speaker 4: another person that million dollars could be their meal ticket
- 7:41Speaker 4: to get away from that passage.
- 7:42Speaker 2: True, Well, shall I get into the episode. Let's go
- 7:51Speaker 2: The Great lock In. I love this name.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I feel like it's very girl at one am doing
- 7:59Speaker 1: a complete rebranded Pinterest totally.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Which is me.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Yeah, to reorganized her room, she's decluded everything, and she's
- 8:07Speaker 4: already booked in to die hair and get bangs.
- 8:09Speaker 2: I was literally about to say that was the third thing.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, But in case you haven't seen this on
- 8:15Speaker 1: your FYP yet, the Great lock In is a new
- 8:20Speaker 1: viral trend which emerged mid August, and basically it's people
- 8:25Speaker 1: committing to working on themselves from September one until December thirty.
- 8:30Speaker 2: First, I've seen a mix of dates.
- 8:33Speaker 1: It's either the first of September to the first of
- 8:35Speaker 1: December or the first of September to the thirty first
- 8:38Speaker 1: of December. Yeah, And according to social media, there's like
- 8:42Speaker 1: a mix of rules that you can pick. And I
- 8:47Speaker 1: know that this episode is coming out on the ninth
- 8:50Speaker 1: of September.
- 8:51Speaker 2: But it's never too late. Yeah, you can lock in
- 8:54Speaker 2: right now, baby, exactly.
- 8:56Speaker 3: It's never too late to lock in.
- 8:57Speaker 2: It's never too late to lock in.
- 9:00Speaker 1: And according to TikToker Katie Glenn, whose video has amassed
- 9:04Speaker 1: close to one million views, it's not about overhauling your
- 9:07Speaker 1: life overnight, but it's about stacking evidence that you are
- 9:12Speaker 1: that girl.
- 9:12Speaker 2: One consistent win at a time.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Love that.
- 9:16Speaker 2: So what did you think when this trend hit your fyp?
- 9:20Speaker 3: I also loved it.
- 9:21Speaker 4: I love when something has like a very short and sweet,
- 9:24Speaker 4: marketable name, and the great lock in just hit and
- 9:27Speaker 4: I feel like really encapsulates what this time of year
- 9:31Speaker 4: feels like, which is kind of what you were saying
- 9:33Speaker 4: in last week's episode, like we're not at the end
- 9:36Speaker 4: of the year yet where we can fully just let
- 9:38Speaker 4: go and relax and wind down. It's like, now's the
- 9:42Speaker 4: time to reflect back on maybe some of the goals
- 9:44Speaker 4: that we started at the beginning of the year, or
- 9:46Speaker 4: even where we've ended up at this part of the year,
- 9:49Speaker 4: and take advantage of the time that we have left
- 9:52Speaker 4: and lock in.
- 9:53Speaker 3: So I really like it.
- 9:55Speaker 4: I think that sometimes when I see like I would
- 9:57Speaker 4: see some of the girlies and their content, I was like,
- 10:00Speaker 4: love this, yeah.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Because I do feel like the girlies usually.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Take a bit more of a softer, maybe more realistic approach,
- 10:08Speaker 4: whereas I saw a few men doing the lock in
- 10:11Speaker 4: and that was it's always a bit more rigid.
- 10:13Speaker 1: I find my FIP didn't even didn't even put that forward, yeah,
- 10:17Speaker 1: because it was like you don't want you know.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Yeah. But I think what I like about the Great
- 10:23Speaker 4: lock In as opposed to something like seventy five day
- 10:26Speaker 4: Hard Challenge is that it doesn't have set rules.
- 10:30Speaker 3: It's customizable.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Yeah, So unlike the seventy five hard which is very rigorous.
- 10:38Speaker 1: And I think you guys know how I feel about it.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I think I've ranched and raved about it a billion times.
- 10:45Speaker 1: It's like no cheat days before and after photos exercise
- 10:49Speaker 1: five billion times a day, and it's very much about
- 10:53Speaker 1: the aesthetic of how you look and changing that to
- 10:55Speaker 1: fit a certain stereotypical type.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Of beauty and body blah blah blah blah blah, or
- 11:01Speaker 4: even like the like interests and hobbies like you can
- 11:04Speaker 4: only read self heal and.
- 11:09Speaker 3: And I'm like, that's not everybody's goal though.
- 11:12Speaker 4: If part of your the Great lock In is to
- 11:15Speaker 4: pick a fantasy series and finish that trilogy by the
- 11:19Speaker 4: end of the year, that's to me because it's like, Okay,
- 11:22Speaker 4: you want to lean into your creativity. You want to
- 11:26Speaker 4: discover like a new type of literature that you haven't
- 11:28Speaker 4: read before, or something like.
- 11:29Speaker 2: It doesn't have to be ted very smart.
- 11:32Speaker 3: You want to get more horny, at least more horny
- 11:35Speaker 3: per day.
- 11:36Speaker 1: That is actually a KPI everyone should set for themselves.
- 11:40Speaker 2: I'm setting mine right now.
- 11:42Speaker 4: But yeah, you obviously resonated with the lock in. I
- 11:45Speaker 4: feel like this is very.
- 11:46Speaker 2: This is very Yeah, it's very Alexander Hrugan.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I love like the way my brain works is it
- 11:53Speaker 1: works very well with a deadline. I love being like, Okay,
- 11:59Speaker 1: we're doing this until this point in time, because I
- 12:02Speaker 1: think we're setting goals where people fall off. I know
- 12:05Speaker 1: where I fall off is setting goals that are too
- 12:09Speaker 1: hard and then they're a forever thing.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Yeah right, And with this, it's.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Like it just feels more fun, but it also is
- 12:18Speaker 1: like it's not regulated, it's not forever. So let's say
- 12:21Speaker 1: you know one of your things is that you want
- 12:24Speaker 1: to save more money. It's also doesn't have this point
- 12:27Speaker 1: of that's forever, Like you don't have to do this
- 12:29Speaker 1: rigorous thing if that's what the rules you want to set, Yeah,
- 12:32Speaker 1: it doesn't have to be like that. But yeah, this
- 12:35Speaker 1: is I love shit like this because it just measures
- 12:38Speaker 1: with my brain. But that's also what I wanted to
- 12:40Speaker 1: get into, and kind of what you were saying on
- 12:42Speaker 1: before is that when you're locking in.
- 12:45Speaker 2: For spring, whilst yes it's a very busy time of year.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Like work wise and all that stuff, what I like
- 12:51Speaker 1: about this is that there's been so many different iterations
- 12:54Speaker 1: of it.
- 12:54Speaker 2: There's not one set of rules that's like the complete sweep.
- 12:57Speaker 1: And I've been seeing a bunch of chicks like making
- 13:00Speaker 1: their own challenges like seventy five Sparkling cute, and I
- 13:04Speaker 1: was like, that is cute.
- 13:05Speaker 2: I'm fucking into that.
- 13:07Speaker 1: And I also think this originated in the US, right,
- 13:13Speaker 1: And it kind of originated as like a winter arc thing, right,
- 13:18Speaker 1: as in like go away, come back somewher you're hot.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Yeah, like go away hibernate, yeah for the months, and yeah,
- 13:24Speaker 4: come back out a new version of yourself.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yeah, which I don't really subscribe to that, Like I
- 13:28Speaker 1: don't think you need to change yourself for any time
- 13:30Speaker 1: of year.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:32Speaker 1: And I actually like this as a spring thing more
- 13:37Speaker 1: than I like it as the winter arc thing, because
- 13:39Speaker 1: there is such a magic about the renewal of spring
- 13:44Speaker 1: and the freshness that is the sun coming up in
- 13:46Speaker 1: the morning and like that the wind in the morning
- 13:49Speaker 1: is a little bit cooling, but it's also a little
- 13:51Speaker 1: bit warm, and it just starts. Also, the days are
- 13:54Speaker 1: getting longer, like it's just the perfect time to lock
- 13:59Speaker 1: into the things that make you feel good, like to
- 14:02Speaker 1: That's how.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I'm looking at it.
- 14:04Speaker 1: It's locking into the habits that make me feel good, which, yes,
- 14:08Speaker 1: unfortunately sometimes that does include exercising.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Guys.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I hate to like actually break the story here, I know,
- 14:14Speaker 1: but it's it's wild.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I actually joined.
- 14:17Speaker 1: So there's this gym across my apartment, but I've actually
- 14:21Speaker 1: enjoyed it so much and it's been so fun. And
- 14:24Speaker 1: I find that that one habit in the morning help
- 14:27Speaker 1: help helps me, help me helps it's mister f Iti.
- 14:32Speaker 1: It helps me also do the other things that make
- 14:35Speaker 1: me feel good. And that's kind of how I'm looking
- 14:39Speaker 1: at the lock in. I don't have a list on
- 14:40Speaker 1: my phone. I don't have posted notes anywhere. I don't
- 14:45Speaker 1: have anything that's like if you don't do this, you
- 14:48Speaker 1: get a smack on the bum. It's for me, it's
- 14:51Speaker 1: more of a mental attitude. Yeah, but everyone is different.
- 14:56Speaker 1: If you want to put posted notes up and have
- 14:58Speaker 1: a list.
- 14:58Speaker 2: That go for it.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Yeah, But I think for me, I'm going at it
- 15:03Speaker 1: with like the mental attitude of being like, okay, it's
- 15:06Speaker 1: locking vibes, let's do this.
- 15:07Speaker 2: We know what's going to make us feel good.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Yeah, right, Like it's more of a lifestyle and an
- 15:12Speaker 4: energy than.
- 15:12Speaker 1: It's And the reason why I'm doing it that way
- 15:16Speaker 1: is because it focuses more on the actual act of
- 15:20Speaker 1: doing the thing rather than looking out of this and
- 15:24Speaker 1: be likely Yeah, because we've spoken about it on the
- 15:27Speaker 1: podcast before. But you are like, your identity is the
- 15:32Speaker 1: result of your habits. Yeah, So if you are constantly
- 15:37Speaker 1: giving yourself evidence by whatever your habits are, that becomes
- 15:41Speaker 1: your identity.
- 15:42Speaker 2: So let's say you're like, oh, I'm so messy.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I never do my washing in my apartment to bomb,
- 15:48Speaker 1: and your habit is that you never clean your apartment
- 15:50Speaker 1: and you never put your washing away.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Then like that feeds into that identity, that narrative. Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:56Speaker 1: And then if you simply give your brain in evidence
- 16:00Speaker 1: by putting your washing away, your brain goes, oh, but
- 16:04Speaker 1: you can do it.
- 16:04Speaker 2: So that's not our identity, that's not what we do.
- 16:07Speaker 1: And the more evidence you give your brain, the more
- 16:09Speaker 1: your habits change, and the more your identity changes. And
- 16:12Speaker 1: it's in James Clear's book Atomic Habits. He always says that,
- 16:16Speaker 1: like he uses a case study and it was this
- 16:19Speaker 1: woman that completely changed her habits. But she asked herself
- 16:22Speaker 1: the question, like what would this person do? So if
- 16:25Speaker 1: you know, you want to save more money, you would
- 16:27Speaker 1: ask yourself what would a richer person do? Or what
- 16:30Speaker 1: would a person that's good with money do? If you
- 16:32Speaker 1: want to, you know, work on your health, what would
- 16:35Speaker 1: a healthy person do? And like that answers your question
- 16:37Speaker 1: that sometimes if I'm.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Being like I don't want it clean, Yeah, like what
- 16:42Speaker 2: would Sally do? She would clean?
- 16:45Speaker 4: Yeah, literally, And I think that's something that I've spoken
- 16:48Speaker 4: about on the pot as well, that literally in therapy,
- 16:53Speaker 4: my therapist was like, you say that you value these things,
- 16:57Speaker 4: but your actions show that you actually value. But I
- 17:00Speaker 4: think it is it's about matching up, like your values
- 17:03Speaker 4: and your actions and if there is a misalignment there
- 17:06Speaker 4: with your identity.
- 17:08Speaker 3: And I, yeah, I agree.
- 17:09Speaker 4: That's why I like the idea of this lock in
- 17:12Speaker 4: and that there isn't really hard and fast rules about
- 17:17Speaker 4: tracking it or setting it up. But I do think
- 17:20Speaker 4: that tracking your progress is always a good thing to do,
- 17:24Speaker 4: even if that is a mental reflection that you're doing
- 17:28Speaker 4: every night before you go to bed. I personally do
- 17:31Speaker 4: love writing things down, I think because.
- 17:34Speaker 3: It helps me focus.
- 17:35Speaker 4: And sometimes I find like I've got so many things
- 17:37Speaker 4: going on in my mind that I might forget to
- 17:40Speaker 4: have that moment of gratitude unless I have like a
- 17:43Speaker 4: physical action tied to it.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Do you mean after or before or both?
- 17:47Speaker 4: I think you could do both whatever you want to do.
- 17:50Speaker 4: I think that I would probably start by writing down
- 17:54Speaker 4: a list of things that I wanted to do, and then,
- 17:57Speaker 4: like in my journal every day I'd go through and
- 17:59Speaker 4: like write down the things that I did achieve that day,
- 18:03Speaker 4: or the things that I felt grateful for, or whatever
- 18:04Speaker 4: the goal is, because I guess kind of like what
- 18:09Speaker 4: Katie Glenn was saying, the purpose of this lock in
- 18:13Speaker 4: is to collect data and evidence to prove that you
- 18:16Speaker 4: can do the things that you aspire to do, and
- 18:18Speaker 4: you can be the person that you want to be
- 18:20Speaker 4: and do the things that make you happy. So if
- 18:24Speaker 4: writing things down can help you collect that data that
- 18:28Speaker 4: you can look back on and you want to do that,
- 18:31Speaker 4: then that is a great thing to do.
- 18:33Speaker 1: I think the thing with writing lists, which is good
- 18:35Speaker 1: to have in your mind as well, is sometimes we
- 18:37Speaker 1: can over promise.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Like I've been seeing some lists.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Right with this lock in and there's like twenty things
- 18:47Speaker 1: on it, Yeah, and that is setting yourself up for failure.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Like there is no I mean, maybe there's a universe, right,
- 18:57Speaker 1: but there's not many where you can completely absorb twenty
- 19:01Speaker 1: new habits. There is no universe where you can absorb
- 19:03Speaker 1: five new habits like that and be consistent.
- 19:06Speaker 4: With it, especially if they're completely different to how you've
- 19:09Speaker 4: been living your life.
- 19:10Speaker 1: And I'm saying this because I've done that like, I've
- 19:12Speaker 1: made that mistake.
- 19:13Speaker 2: And what I would do is I write this list
- 19:14Speaker 2: of all these things I want to do today. I
- 19:16Speaker 2: want to have five hundred letters of water.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I'm going to go bench press fucking a man and
- 19:21Speaker 1: have seven dogs, right, and then I would get to
- 19:25Speaker 1: the end of the day of all these things that
- 19:26Speaker 1: I said in my new daily habits, in my morning
- 19:29Speaker 1: routine and my evening routine. Maybe I've done one, and
- 19:33Speaker 1: then I feel bad about myself because then I haven't
- 19:35Speaker 1: done any of these things.
- 19:37Speaker 2: And I agree.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I think taking data and having this example, Like for me,
- 19:42Speaker 1: my data that I look at is my Ora ring,
- 19:46Speaker 1: Like that's what I look at to make sure that
- 19:48Speaker 1: like I've done that thing that i'd want to do.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I've been active. I haven't just sat down all day.
- 19:53Speaker 1: I've you know, moved my body. I've spoken to people,
- 19:56Speaker 1: I've texted friends, like I have that data, it's in
- 19:58Speaker 1: my phone bo But yeah, you know whereas Yeah, I
- 20:04Speaker 1: think it's really important to make sure you're not over
- 20:07Speaker 1: promising in this.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't want to overcommit yourself.
- 20:10Speaker 1: And sometimes as well, you can get the dopamine hit.
- 20:13Speaker 2: And the reward from the list.
- 20:15Speaker 1: I don't know if you ever had this, but I
- 20:17Speaker 1: would sometimes have this, and which is why I'm trying
- 20:20Speaker 1: to not not have the visual thing this time. And
- 20:23Speaker 1: I think it's just personal preference like this, there's no
- 20:25Speaker 1: one right way, Like.
- 20:27Speaker 2: What works for you and what works for me can
- 20:29Speaker 2: be different things, you know.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Yeah, And it is also potentially looking back at things
- 20:34Speaker 1: you've done in the past and being like, Okay, that
- 20:37Speaker 1: not having a list didn't work for me, so this
- 20:39Speaker 1: time I'm gonna have a list, yeah, you know, like
- 20:41Speaker 1: that's how you can look at it. But I would
- 20:44Speaker 1: be like, fuck, yeah, look at this sexy list.
- 20:47Speaker 2: I'm so productive. I haven't even done it yet.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Yeah, And I would be like done, has not even
- 20:54Speaker 1: gotten up?
- 20:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:55Speaker 4: Yeah. I think that's the thing, like with any sort
- 20:57Speaker 4: of goal setting, you know, or or challenge or anything
- 21:01Speaker 4: that you're going to do, it needs to be realistic, yeah,
- 21:04Speaker 4: and needs to be reflective of who you are as
- 21:06Speaker 4: a person. Because for me writing out the list, I
- 21:09Speaker 4: don't really get any dopamine from it. It's only once
- 21:12Speaker 4: I achieve it and cheat it and tick it off
- 21:14Speaker 4: every day, and like the act of writing it out
- 21:17Speaker 4: every day, when I've done it, I think is where
- 21:20Speaker 4: I'm like, yay, whereas the list beforehand, it's more of
- 21:23Speaker 4: the okay, cool, Now I know what to write down
- 21:26Speaker 4: every day and what I'm going to focus on every day.
- 21:28Speaker 4: But I do agree some of the lock in, like
- 21:31Speaker 4: tiktoks and stuff that I've seen have like nine points
- 21:33Speaker 4: on them and they're all very extreme, so I think, yeah,
- 21:38Speaker 4: and also you can't fully take in well, I feel
- 21:42Speaker 4: that you can't necessarily take in like the enjoyment and
- 21:46Speaker 4: excitement of achieving a goal if there's a billion other
- 21:48Speaker 4: things that you're okay, cool, Well I've ticked this off
- 21:51Speaker 4: and now I've got to do this.
- 21:52Speaker 2: So I love it.
- 21:53Speaker 1: To do list, Like I would literally pass away without
- 21:56Speaker 1: my daily to do list. This is just within the
- 22:00Speaker 1: context of the lock in that I'm coming from, that
- 22:02Speaker 1: it's more of a mentality. Yeah, yeah, Like I think
- 22:05Speaker 1: I would actually explode if I didn't have my spreadsheets
- 22:09Speaker 1: and planners, yeah, total.
- 22:11Speaker 2: And diary, Like I'd be like, so, what's happening today?
- 22:15Speaker 2: Who are you? Who am I?
- 22:16Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 22:16Speaker 1: But we also had some more tips on ways to
- 22:19Speaker 1: lock in, and you had a rule yes, so.
- 22:25Speaker 3: It's then never missed twice rule.
- 22:27Speaker 4: Okay, Like we said, you chicks know that we're not
- 22:30Speaker 4: huge fans of things like the seventy five hard or
- 22:33Speaker 4: any sort of challenge that allows no flexibility.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Do you know what, I'm a fan of a cheat
- 22:37Speaker 2: day every day.
- 22:38Speaker 4: Yeah, you need to give yourself wriggle room for when
- 22:41Speaker 4: life happens, whether that is you had a really busy
- 22:44Speaker 4: day at work, you had a bad sleep, so it
- 22:47Speaker 4: would actually do you injustice if you got up early
- 22:50Speaker 4: and you didn't sleep in, Like, you need to allow
- 22:53Speaker 4: yourself flexibility to allow cheat days in quotations for these
- 22:59Speaker 4: things that are on your lip. But the never missed
- 23:02Speaker 4: twice rule is that you never miss a thing on
- 23:05Speaker 4: your list two days in a row. So if your
- 23:08Speaker 4: goal is to get ten thousand steps and one day
- 23:13Speaker 4: you're just like exhausted, you're really busy at work, you
- 23:17Speaker 4: don't get the ten thousand, you don't completely write it
- 23:20Speaker 4: off or you don't punish yourself. Yeah, but also you say, okay,
- 23:25Speaker 4: I missed it today, that's fine. Tonight, I'm going to
- 23:27Speaker 4: get a good sleep, I'm going to go to bed early,
- 23:29Speaker 4: and tomorrow I'm going to get up and go for
- 23:31Speaker 4: a walk before work to try and get some of
- 23:33Speaker 4: those steps in and get.
- 23:34Speaker 2: That momentum back.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Can you have like when it's the never missed twice rule,
- 23:39Speaker 1: is that like you can have multiple days yeah, that
- 23:43Speaker 1: like separated that you're like, oh, I feel off it today,
- 23:45Speaker 1: or like Friday, I'm just not going to do anything,
- 23:47Speaker 1: and like that's not like you can have multiple of
- 23:50Speaker 1: those single days that you're like, Jim, I'm just gonna
- 23:52Speaker 1: have a little day off.
- 23:52Speaker 4: Yeah, it's more so trying not to have two consecutive
- 23:56Speaker 4: days where you don't do whatever the goal is. Because
- 24:00Speaker 4: I also do think that missing two days is enough
- 24:04Speaker 4: to fall off.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Absolutely, I'd be like it's done, it's over.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:10Speaker 4: But and of course there are circumstances where this may
- 24:14Speaker 4: not happen, Like if you're sick.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Why is it that whenever you like lock into something,
- 24:23Speaker 1: you always fucking get sick at the start? Okay? My
- 24:27Speaker 1: tip is to beware the dopamine budget.
- 24:30Speaker 2: I think with things like this.
- 24:32Speaker 1: It's very easy to get really excited and be like
- 24:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna buy these four hundred dollars sneakers because I'm
- 24:39Speaker 1: gonna run every day, or I'm gonna join this one
- 24:42Speaker 1: gym and sign up to a twelve month contract that
- 24:45Speaker 1: I'm now locked in for because I'm going to be
- 24:47Speaker 1: a completely different person somehow magically tomorrow that I am today.
- 24:51Speaker 1: And yeah, I don't spend your paycheck on trying to
- 24:56Speaker 1: become a new person, Like it shouldn't cost any money
- 24:59Speaker 1: if you to do the great lock in. Like if
- 25:02Speaker 1: you're thinking, oh, I'm gonna buy a whole new wardrobe,
- 25:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna be this person.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Why no?
- 25:06Speaker 4: Yeah, Like, you don't need a new active were set
- 25:09Speaker 4: to do the lock in.
- 25:10Speaker 1: If you don't have the habit now, Buying something is
- 25:13Speaker 1: not going to magically create the habit for you.
- 25:16Speaker 4: No, or if anything, it will give you an incentive
- 25:19Speaker 4: to do it the first time, and then as soon
- 25:21Speaker 4: as you wash that outfit and it no longer feels new,
- 25:24Speaker 4: you're gonna lose that motivation. You need to find the
- 25:26Speaker 4: motivation beyond a purchase.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Instead of buying the thing to make the habit happen,
- 25:33Speaker 1: focus on the reward so you can look into things
- 25:37Speaker 1: like habit reward loops, where you know, if you are
- 25:40Speaker 1: consistent with something for three weeks, you get a little
- 25:45Speaker 1: ten dollar gift at the end of the week, and
- 25:47Speaker 1: then at the fourth week you get a fifty dollars
- 25:50Speaker 1: gift and you can do like mini mini mini big
- 25:53Speaker 1: of like that kind of habit loop, or you can
- 25:55Speaker 1: look at doing an automatic transfer every day until the
- 26:00Speaker 1: first of December. I'm not fucking locking until the thirty
- 26:02Speaker 1: first of December. I've got parties to go to. Not
- 26:05Speaker 1: Christmas time, not Christmas Christmas.
- 26:08Speaker 3: December one, but christ after Black Friday. I feel I'm
- 26:12Speaker 3: a right off.
- 26:13Speaker 1: I'm drunk from the first of December to the twenty
- 26:18Speaker 1: fifth of December, small break for swims until news and
- 26:22Speaker 1: then I'm drunk again.
- 26:23Speaker 2: All right, no one bothered me. Out of office is on?
- 26:26Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, so yeah, I'm like, don't even like
- 26:30Speaker 1: the thirty it's on the first of December.
- 26:33Speaker 2: It's on the first.
- 26:33Speaker 3: December, and January is a right off.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, don't even I'm literally just in an astral
- 26:39Speaker 1: plane looking down at the Earth being like oh no,
- 26:42Speaker 1: literally yeah, but focus on you know, if you transfer
- 26:47Speaker 1: five dollars a day, ten dollars a day, whatever it is,
- 26:50Speaker 1: and then at the end you get to buy Seale
- 26:51Speaker 1: a treat. There's a dress I want that I am
- 26:55Speaker 1: thinking of making my treat.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Oh, I can't wait to find out.
- 26:58Speaker 2: You already know what dress it is. However, like we've said,
- 27:03Speaker 2: it is very personal. This is very personal to what
- 27:06Speaker 2: you want to do.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Where I'm never gonna get on this podcast and be like,
- 27:09Speaker 1: here's yourt five things you need to do every day
- 27:12Speaker 1: to be happy, successful, hot, smart.
- 27:14Speaker 3: And reach. There's always a tnc ohay.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Always a tasy. And also my favorite part is I'm
- 27:21Speaker 1: not the police.
- 27:21Speaker 2: You have free will. I don't like it. If you
- 27:24Speaker 2: don't like a tip, you never have to do it.
- 27:26Speaker 2: This is just all suggestion, baby sent exactly. So.
- 27:32Speaker 1: In order to figure out what you want to lock into,
- 27:36Speaker 1: I have five questions to ask yourself before you lock in,
- 27:40Speaker 1: before you do the great lock in, before you lock
- 27:43Speaker 1: in for spring or autumn or wherever you are situated.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Here are the five questions to ask to understand how
- 27:49Speaker 1: the fuck you're gonna lock in?
- 27:50Speaker 4: Okay?
- 27:51Speaker 2: Number one?
- 27:51Speaker 1: Am I choosing this because I want it or because
- 27:54Speaker 1: I think I should want it? It helps separate external pressures,
- 27:58Speaker 1: whether it's society, relateationships, family, friends, from your internal desires
- 28:03Speaker 1: of what you actually want for yourself. Number two, I
- 28:06Speaker 1: really like this one. Does this decision give me more freedom?
- 28:10Speaker 1: Or take it away.
- 28:12Speaker 2: So it's a really a good way to.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Test if the lock in feels expansive and it's going
- 28:17Speaker 1: to build upon your life, or if it's going to
- 28:20Speaker 1: feel restrictive and take away from the things that truly
- 28:22Speaker 1: make you happy.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Number three, if I had to live with this choice
- 28:29Speaker 1: for five years, how would I feel? This is a
- 28:33Speaker 1: really good question because it helps you kind of see
- 28:35Speaker 1: a future version of is this actually going to help
- 28:38Speaker 1: me build habits that create an identity that I want
- 28:41Speaker 1: to be long lasting? If not, is this achievable? It
- 28:46Speaker 1: kind of zooms out of the moment and the pressure
- 28:48Speaker 1: and forces you to consider like medium term impact without
- 28:52Speaker 1: committing to forever. Yeah.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Number four, what's the worst case scenario if I couldn't
- 28:59Speaker 2: handle it? Okay?
- 29:01Speaker 1: So it brings perspective and reduces fear by proving most
- 29:06Speaker 1: lockins aren't permanent or scary and it's not the end
- 29:08Speaker 1: of the world if you do fall off. Yeah, like
- 29:12Speaker 1: you can just jump back on, like, what's the worst
- 29:14Speaker 1: thing that will happen?
- 29:15Speaker 2: Oh I miss one day? Okay, Tomorrow'll just freestart exactly.
- 29:18Speaker 1: And then number five, am I making this choice from
- 29:22Speaker 1: fear or excitement. So fear based decisions often feel like
- 29:28Speaker 1: a trap. And we've mentioned this in a New Year's
- 29:30Speaker 1: Resolutions episode before as well, that goals made out of
- 29:35Speaker 1: negative based emotions or projections are more likely to fail
- 29:40Speaker 1: than those made out of positive projections. So doing things
- 29:43Speaker 1: because it is going to bring a positive rather than
- 29:46Speaker 1: a negative. So let's use the health example because it's
- 29:50Speaker 1: one of the easiest ones, but there's so many you
- 29:52Speaker 1: could do. Right is being like, oh, I want to
- 29:55Speaker 1: lose weight, I want to lose five kilos, that's a
- 29:57Speaker 1: negative projection versus I want to build up my strength
- 30:01Speaker 1: to run five kilometers, that's a positive.
- 30:04Speaker 2: So looking at it like that. Yeah, and excitement based
- 30:07Speaker 2: ones are going to get you out of the bed.
- 30:08Speaker 1: In the morning exactly. You're going to be like, I
- 30:11Speaker 1: can't wait to do this. And I think focusing on
- 30:13Speaker 1: the feeling you have after doing whatever it is your
- 30:16Speaker 1: lockin is focused on is going to make it so
- 30:18Speaker 1: much more fun and exerting.
- 30:20Speaker 4: Yeah, base your lock in on things that make you
- 30:23Speaker 4: feel joy, not to get away from things that make
- 30:25Speaker 4: you feel guilty.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, but I have a question for you. If
- 30:31Speaker 1: you could recommend one product for a lock in.
- 30:34Speaker 2: What would have been why Oo?
- 30:37Speaker 4: I have one that I want to say, but I
- 30:39Speaker 4: don't know if I should say it.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Why It would be the orerry.
- 30:46Speaker 4: And I feel guilty saying this because I do know
- 30:49Speaker 4: that we are two broke chicks and we very rarely
- 30:53Speaker 4: recommend expensive purchases.
- 30:55Speaker 3: But we both got orra rings at the end of
- 30:58Speaker 3: last year.
- 30:59Speaker 2: It was our bonus. It was that Christmas bonus.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 31:02Speaker 4: And I do feel like it has really helped me
- 31:05Speaker 4: get absolutely a better big picture of my internal health
- 31:11Speaker 4: because I would be focusing on things like, you know,
- 31:15Speaker 4: like my steps or other external sort of factors like
- 31:19Speaker 4: that which are really helpful, but I couldn't see, like,
- 31:24Speaker 4: for example, my readiness score, which I love seeing at
- 31:27Speaker 4: the beginning of the day, and I love that my
- 31:29Speaker 4: goals get adjusted based on that.
- 31:31Speaker 1: It actually helps you not expect so much of yourself daily, yeah,
- 31:35Speaker 1: whereas I would be like, no, this is my goal
- 31:38Speaker 1: and I have to hit it every single day.
- 31:40Speaker 4: Whereas I feel like the order ring has given me
- 31:43Speaker 4: a better understanding of how I'm feeling and how I
- 31:45Speaker 4: should adjust my goals based on that, so I'm not
- 31:48Speaker 4: stretching myself too thin and it's helped me build healthier
- 31:52Speaker 4: habits around my sleep health and my sleep hygiene and
- 31:55Speaker 4: stuff like that. So it is a bougie bougie purchase,
- 32:00Speaker 4: And obviously you don't have to go with that specifically,
- 32:03Speaker 4: but I do think that if you are looking into
- 32:05Speaker 4: some sort of health tracking app or device, I feel
- 32:10Speaker 4: like it's the only consistent habit tracking to all I've
- 32:14Speaker 4: ever used, aside from my journal.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Yeah, mine would be probably my audible subscription. As someone
- 32:21Speaker 1: who feels the most like themselves when they're reading a book,
- 32:25Speaker 1: and that just brings me so much joy and makes
- 32:28Speaker 1: me so productive. Like if I need to get a
- 32:31Speaker 1: task done, whether it's cleaning my apartment, going through a walk,
- 32:35Speaker 1: or anything that involves something like getting a task.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Done, if I put an audiobook in, it's so easy.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I just I love it and I just
- 32:46Speaker 1: think it's the best. And you can get whatever you
- 32:48Speaker 1: want to listen to, whether it's self help, whether it's fiction,
- 32:51Speaker 1: whether it's some mutty little book and you're on the
- 32:54Speaker 1: train and listening to two people get down, you're like
- 32:56Speaker 1: nobody knew, yes exactly. I love seeing like girls listening
- 33:01Speaker 1: to things like or reading something on their kindle.
- 33:04Speaker 2: I'm like you, dirty doll, that's sluody, bloody book. Well,
